Beating the fossil fuel corporations, utilities etc. into submission, overthrowing capitalism, and recreating the economic and political systems of the world so that we can save humanity isn't going to be easy, not by a long shot... but it needs to be done. Bill McKibben, a principal organizer of the People’s Climate March, is completely Rockefeller funded. How's that for manufactured dissent?
Big business and the big political parties and politicians they own have converged in what is being disingenuously called the "People's Climate March." MSNBC would report in an article titled, "The largest Climate March in history kicks off in New York," that: They’re calling it the largest mobilization against Climate Change in the history of the planet. On Sunday morning, protesters from all over the United States and the world are converging on Manhattan to demand that global leaders take action to avert catastrophic Climate Change. Earlier this week Bill McKibben, founder of the environmental group 350.org, projected that the march would consist of “hundreds of thousands” of participants.

The trial of two Massachusetts climate activists charged with conspiracy and disturbing the peace for using their lobster boat to block a 40,000 ton shipment of coal to a power plant in May 2013 was expected to begin on Monday. But shortly before the trial, the District Attorney dropped charges saying he agrees the activists had to take action because the consequence of Climate Change are so dire. The District Attorney then read an article by 350.org's Bill McKibben to climate activists gathered outside the courthouse: “Climate Change is one of the gravest crises our planet has ever faced. In my humble opinion, the political leadership on this issue has been sorely lacking.” Whose climate? The to story:

Here is a great letter from my friend Randy Cunningham on the state of the environmental movement and the need to switch strategies, especially after the horrible, horrible SB310 was passed this past week in Ohio. After 310 by Randy Cunningham The passage of SB 310 in the Ohio House is one of the bitterest defeats we have suffered since the 2004 legislation that turned the fracking industry loose on the state. I was not surprised at the outcome because politics in the State House is about numbers, who has them and who doesn’t. The enemies of renewable energy standards had the numbers and we didn’t. End of story. Bill McKibben has described our foes as the most powerful network of institutions that humanity has ever seen. The power of the fossil fuel industry beggars the power of all past empires, all past monarchs and all the armies that have ever marched or navies that have ever sailed. This is not a fight where the odds are in our favor. I am usually surprised when we win something, not when w ...

Mother Earth or Oven Earth? McKibben outlines why divest from fossil fuels. A Note from Bill McKibben to Tikkun readers, members of the Network of Spiritual Progressives, and our friends and allies Tikkun readers don’t need my financial advice—I’m not exactly a stock market guru. Still, I did write the first book for a general audience on Climate Change (way back in 1989), and I did found the first big grassroots climate campaign (350.org), so perhaps I can make a few observations about why the fossil fuel divestment effort has become the fastest-growing effort of its kind in history, according to Oxford University. And about why we need your congregations, your colleges, and your cities to join in this effort. 1) The fossil fuel companies aren’t normal companies. In the last few years we’ve come to understand that they have five times as much carbon in their reserves as we can safely burn if the world is to meet its agreed climate target of limiting rises in temperature to below 2 degrees. There are many who participated in the '60s who were trying to create new styles of life and who burned out and wondered what's going to happen next. But still, in the '80s, Tom Hayden built the Campaign for Economic Democracy and in the '90s Michael Lerner started the Politics of Meaning. These kinds of movements attempt to adapt and deal with the realities of the world in which we live in a less confrontational way than the same people would've done in the '60s. There are group all over the United States even now, for example, Climate Change activist Bill McKibben's 350.org, trying to do this. So by no means has everyone given up. Yet, on the other hand, there are discouraging examples of people who were very active in the '60s who now make good salaries in the suburbs. And who say, "Look, things are very tight and the future is pretty grim and we don't want to give away what we've got and it's too bad for those blacks, poor people and the homeless. I have nothing against them but I just don't want them ...

Democrats and teabaggers deserve each other, they are both equally deluded. Prior to the last election many of my activist friends implored me not to vote for Jill Stein in Ohio, they claimed that the "real" Obama would arise from the ashes of the neocons into the beacon of hope he had always promised to be since he would no longer have to worry about being re-elected. Last year they rallied to go forward on Climate with the man. Now, 2 years in, Obama is pushing congress to fast track a trade deal that would give Transnational corporations undeniable dominion over the earth in the guise of spreading the "promise" of free market capitalism. He continues to defend spying on the American people and attempts to silence whistle blowers. By Carol Pierson Holding I heard in late December that Bill McKibben had written another article for Rollingsolar Stone, I was thrilled. His July 2012 piece for that publication — “Global Warming’s Terrifying Math” — started a firestorm. McKibben had determined that the public was losing interest in battling Climate Change because there was no clear enemy. With no titanic force to battle, consumers had no one to blame but themselves, and that notion was driving away supporters. Then McKibben’s article identified the fossil fuel companies as the once and future evil, and because of horrors such as the Exxon Valdez and BP’s Gulf Oil Spill, they were bad guys we already loved to hate. McKibben gave us our powerful, venal villains. But a perfect story needs a hero too. McKibben’s article’s title, “Obama and Climate Change: The Real Story,” made it seem like that hero might be Obama. But McKibbens’ article turned out to be an indictment, using Obama’s own words to brand him the Presid ...
