Many in media are criticizing Joe Philbin & Bill Lazor for handcuffing Ryan Tannehill w/o stopping to think WHY they did this!
Ryan Tannehill did not like Bill Lazor. Kenny Stills and Jordan Cameron as well. Tannehill may be the happiest man in the building today.
Ryan Tannehill, with the revamped WR core and his 2nd year in Bill Lazor's system, is going to take another step forward.
1) Miami's scoring has improved from 19.8 points per game in 2013 to 24.3 points per game this season. Philbin's hiring of first-year offensive coordinator Bill Lazor played a key role in that improvement. 2) Third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill is having a career season. He has set career highs in touchdown passes (26) and passer rating (93.2) with one game remaining to pad those numbers. 3) The Dolphins had three losses this season by four points or less to three playoff teams (Denver, Green Bay and Detroit). If Miami pulled off any of these close games, the season result could have been different. ROSS - "Things are happening as an organization. I think everyone feels the buzz that things are changing around here, "They say patience is a virtue, you know. But I'm expecting big things next year -- I will tell you that."
Bill Lazor said Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is "getting better. He's playing with control."
I do like what I have seen from Bill Lazor's offense and Ryan Tannehill thus far this preseason
Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey and Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin Hickey are speaking to media. Dennis Hickey: When calls are made you consider it, but we had pre-determined plan. James was targeted player we really thought would help us. Hickey: Ryan Tannehill is excited about having another OT, a quality OT with 36 inch arms that can really pass protect and is a talented athlete. Hickey: When you talk about trading you take into account what may happen -- what other teams have visited, worked out. Joe Philbin: When Bill Lazor came in we talked about specifics -- size, arm length. We all felt we has ability to pass block 1-on-1 against DEs Philbin: We felt he was a good scheme fit in the offense. Philbin on Dallas Thomas: He got reps at guard and tackle last year, made a lot of progress... he gives us some flexibility. Philbin said there was no "great revelation" about James, just fit the bill on and off the field. Philbin: We like James' durability, played 49 games in one of best conferences, got better as ...
The Dolphins couldn't get away from the stink and scandal of the 2013 season fast enough. The team hired a new general manager (Dennis Hickey), offensive coordinator (Bill Lazor), and signed 10 players to help remake a flawed roster. Will that be enough to contend in the AFC? It's important to remember that, despite all the drama around them, Miami came within one game of a playoff berth last season. There's no reason to think they can't take the next step. Recapping Dolphins' offseason moves Key re-signings Key arrivals Key departures CB Brent Grimes OT Branden Albert CB Nolan Carroll DT Randy Starks CB Cortland Finnegan S Chris Clemons DT Earl Mitchell DT Paul Soliai RB Knowshon Moreno What's next » O-line overhaul: It took a year, but the Dolphins located their replacement for Jake Long. Branden Albert instantly upgrades the protection on Ryan Tannehill's blindside. Jonathan Martin was shipped out of town and Richie Incognito is out of the picture (where he should stay). Right tackle remains a major h ...
UNDER THE RADAR SIGNING THAT MAY HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT. With all that has gone on recently with the hiring of Dennis Hickey and Bill Lazor there is one coaching addition that needs to be noted. That is the hiring of John Benton who comes over from the Houston Texans. He has taken the post of assistant offensive line coach. From 2006-13 he was in charge of one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Houston's offense ranked in the top five for three consecutive seasons from 2008-10. The line helped Arian Foster lead the league in 2012. Before coaching the line in Houston he did the same job with the Rams for a year. We will have to wait to see if this is a sign that Jim Turners job is in jeopardy, but for now any assistance can only be welcomed. Hopefully he will help to improve the line play because Ryan Tannehill can't take another beating like he did last season. It is more than likley he will be helping 4 new linemen gel as a unit because the only player who is safe is Mike Pouncey.
Dan Marino on if surprised taking while to name GM. "No, it's an important position." Marino on GM: "I think people should just be patient. I'm sure they'll figure it out when the time is right." Marino on GM search: "There's a lot of cases, u look around the league, not just the they take their time and they have patience picking the right people they believe should be in that position." Mike Sherman was an assistant coach at Pittsburgh when Dan Marino was there. Marino on Dolphins OC change: "I've always liked Mike. It's just a business where sometimes it just changes. He'll be fine." Jeff Ireland at Dan Marino WalkAbout Autism. Declined to answer question about reported dissension inside franchise. Ireland said of time with Dolphins he "had a great 6 years. I met some amazing people, amazing players." Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill on new OC Bill Lazor: "I met him & first impressions are great. He seems like a great guy."
Bill Lazor said he's excited to work with Ryan Tannehill and has seen him a little in some cross over film study.
The Vikings were granted permission to interview Browns' offensive coordinator Norv Turner for the same position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Dolphins' offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is "excited" to work with Ryan Tannehill -- "I see a lot of ability, physical ability." Percy Harvin is not practicing today for the Seahawks (concussion), he is to meet with his doctors in the afternoon. -Ryan
