Bill Hall here: While I love hearing new music, I also like to hear songs that have already impressed me, and I'll have a nice mix of the two this morning. From the past we'll enjoy The Indigo Girls great version of Joni Mitchell's "River", some 'Til Tuesday, Neil Young, Billy Idol, Rusted Root, The Clash, Augustana (currently on the road with our friends Scars On 45), Blues Traveler, Over the Rhine (playing The Music Box in The Flats Wednesday night- I hope they're doing a Christmas show at The Kent Stage, too- it would hardly be Christmas without it), Crosby. Crosby, Stills & Nash, Kira Leyden Andrea and Connor O'Brien with their beautiful take on "Carol Of The Bells" and Talking Heads' "The Lady Don't Mind". As for new songs, we'll hear the latest from TV On The Radio, U2, a brand new song from Ingrid Michaelson, Fitz & The Tantrums, Cage The Elephant, Chrissie Hynde, Red Wanting Blue and The Black Keys. In our Local Music Spotlight at 9:45 we'll hear the latest from Jessica Lea Mayfield, who will be . ...
Good morning from Bill Hall: Mid 30's with a little mist and fog in NE Ohio this morning, and that's the basic outlook for rest of the day. Maybe a flurry this morning and maybe some sun this afternoon, but generally boring late fall weather. The music I'll be sharing will be anything but boring, with the something brand new from Counting Crows, Marcus Mumford singing a long lost Dylan tune from the new Basement Tapes album, some new Imagine Dragons plus the latest from Beck, Big Data, The Hold Steady, OK GO, Bastille and many others. We'll also enjoy tracks from the library from R.E.M., Lenny Kravitz, David Gray, Men At Work, Nik Kershaw, The Moody Blues, The Wallflowers, plus some great Christmas music from The Ohio City Singers (Don Dixon, Chris Allen et. al.), Guster, Brian Setzer and The Roches. Jim Chenot will take us front row center to hear Carl Perkins bop the blues, and Akron's Ambassador of Peace, Zach will lead the Bright Lights on their great song "Dream Singer" in our Local Music Spotlight. ...

The following comments are those of Bill Hall who is a syndicated humor columnist for the Lewiston Morning Tribune in Lewiston, Idaho. Consider bathing, for instance. As a general rule, middle-aged women take baths at night. The men shower each morning. The men like to go to bed dirty and go to work clean. Women prefer to go to bed clean and to work dirty. That's why men usually take their coffee breaks with other men. Women read more boring magazines than men. They read silly, pedestrian magazines filled with articles on making quilts, turning bleach bottles into stunning centerpieces, the use of orange eyeshadow and how to get men to shower before going to bed instead of before going to work. Men read sensible, intellectual journals on how to catch fish and kill little animals. When a man cooks, he keeps his knives sharp. Most female cooks don't. Indeed, most female cooks don't even own a decent kitchen knife, let alone a sharp one. Female cooks offer the excuse that they would cut themselves if they ha ...

Any one interested in doing a backpacking trip to Thunder River in the Grand Canyon? I'm looking at doing a trip over the weekend of either September 14-15 or 28-29 (the backcountry ranger told me last week these dates are still available). The plan would be to stay 2 nights at Upper Tapeats Campground (option of going to Lower Tapeats for the 2nd night) and one night at the Deer Creek Campground. If desired we can break up the hike out by spending another night on the Esplanade. A description of the hike is at Although this is one of the more spectacular hikes in the Grand Canyon, this would not be recommended as your first backpacking trip. You will definitely want to train for this trip - the Bill Hall trail is one of the steepest in the Grand Canyon.

Unfortunately, most of the tales told cannot be retold in a public forum :)
"Bill Hall with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City says his company shows that Kansas has recently provided $132 million to companies in Kansas City, Mo., to move across the state line into Kansas. Meanwhile, Missouri has provided about $60 million in tax breaks to entice businesses to move jobs from Kansas to the Missouri side of the city. Hall says that means Kansas gained 595 jobs at cost of $323,000 per job. He says the economic border war in Missouri, Kansas and other states is a losing battle for both sides, and taxpayers are paying for it."

There are days when I remember Bill Hall. He was my boss at Adelphoi and he was always concerned about ME not just my employee performance. He walked the talk truly not perfect but as best as he could. I grew up around some ministers who were supposed to embody the Christian spirit but whose lives were a mess. When they didn't have a stage or microphone they treated their children, wives and others with disrespect - not all were like that but enough to jade me. Bill was the real deal. I found out after he passed away that one morning that I called off of work he pulled his car over with a coworker to say a prayer for me. I try to walk my talk everyday. I need an attitude adjustment and to be humble because your actions have a ripple affect and Bill's definitely push me to treat others with respect and dignity.
Happy birthday Jackie Robinson!!! Love the Bill Hall signing for the Angels. While it seems like he's been around forever, he's only 33 so there should be some tread left on the tires and it add's depth all over the diamond with his positional versatility. At the very least he is still a very productive AAA guy who will make the Bees a better team. Also, like that the Angels had scouts in Peoria today to scout Kip Wells, Ryan Rowland-Smith, and Mark Lowe throwing. Makes me think that the Angels plan to bring in at least one more veteran arm for their pen and possibly to add a little more depth to their rotation.

ROUNDBALL FANS: Bill Walton, always controversial, was interviewed recently by T.J. Simers of the LA Times. Revealing, interesting and controversial. Some entries: Kareem was the best he had ever faced and his statute should be 13 feet tall as planned because that is how tall he appeared when you faced him. If someone says that Wilt C. was a bad man, they never met him and don't ever underestimate anything he says, even the statement about being with 20,000 woman. Walton had a severe stuttering problem during college, but overcame it to become an analyst and he never stops talking. At his Hall of Fame Speech he was to speak only 5 minutes. At the 17 minute mark the director ushered him off the stage and said, "Your speech was longer than your career." Best trash talkers: Larry Bird and surprise, John Wooden. I had the privilege of sitting near the UCLA bench one-time and I agree with that assessment. Walton and Wooden had a fantastic and complicated relationship. One time I heard Wooden tell this ...

PART SIX: A BRIEF HISTORY OF MY LIFE BY GUY BUCHNER. THE DEPRESSION OF THE THIRTIES. When the depression of the early thirties hit we who had put our money in what were previously considered good safe investments, namely real estate in the form of rental properties, business buildings, farm lands, and first mortgages, discovered that we had made a bad mistake. All our cash dollars were tied up, while the various types of property taxes were accumulating with the unpaid balances increasing each year. To pay part of thes taxes, thereby preventing tax sales, we were forced to mortgage properties to borrow money, for which we had to pay interest at the then exorbitant rate of 10%. Even with this high prevailing interest rate, we were lucky to find anyone with any money they were willing to lend. The First National Bank in Holdenville held mortgages on some of our properties. Old Cran Wilbanks, President of the Bank, and Frank Warren, Bank Attorney would put farms up for sale that I had given them as collater ...

Record: 5-6-1, fourth, NFL West Points scored/allowed: 214/239 Coach: Weeb Ewbank Summary: One of the most labyrinthine histories of any NFL franchise belongs to the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts. The team evolved from the birth, death, rebirth and/or relocation of a handful of franchises — a trajectory later echoed by Robert Irsay’s middle-of-the-night move of the team to Indianapolis in 1984, and the relocation of the original Cleveland Browns to Baltimore for the 1996 season. The golden era of “The Horseshoe” began on Jan. 23, 1953. Carroll Rosenbloom moved the 1952 iteration of the Dallas Texans to Baltimore after a 1-11 season and resurrected the Colts name. The original Colts franchise had been dissolved in 1951 after emerging as an AAFC team formerly known as the Miami Seahawks. After a 3-9 season under Keith Molesworth, Weeb Ewbank took over — and the team finished 3-9 again in 1954. But the pieces started to fall into place in 1955 when the future Hall of Fame coach, who’d worked un ...
Since the Pledge of Allegiance Are not allowed in most Public schools anymore Because the word 'God' is mentioned."New Pledge of Allegiance" Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all.. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks... They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. This Day In Music: January 23rd 1956, Rock 'n' Roll fans in Cleveland aged under 18 were banned from dancing in public (unless accompanied by an adult), after Ohio Police introduced a law dating back to 1931. 1965, 'Downtown' made Petula Clark the first UK female singer to have a No.1 on the US singles chart since Vera Lynn in 1952. The song was also a No.2 hit in the UK. 1967, Pink Floyd spent the first of three days recording the Syd Barrett songs Arnold Layne and Candy And A Current Bun at Sound Techniques Studios, Chelsea, London. According to Roger Waters, Arnold Layne was based on a real person - a transvestite whose primary pastime was stealing women's clothes and undergarments from washing lines in Cambridge. 1969, Working at Apple studios in London, The Beatles (with Billy Preston on keyboards) recorded ten takes of a new song called 'Get Back'. 1971, Steel Mill played their final show when they appeared at the Upstage Club, Asbury Park, New Jersey. Ok guys I have a question for parents who have children. Do your children have house chores?? If so what do they do. My kids who's ages are 14,11 and 8 have 1 chore each. 14 year old kitchen, 11 year old kids bathroom and 8 year old vacuum living room. I cook, wash, dry and put up all clothes and work all day. My kids think I'm the worse parent ever because I make them do this. They accomplish it about 2 days a week then I end up doing it myself. Those of you that know know me, know that my kids do a lot, are involved in a lot, and I rarely say no to them. So my question... is this too much to ask from them??

An orange sky lights the east window of the nest as another frosty morning begins in the city. The sunshine promises to make the day a fair one with temps close to 50. It was a great day yesterday with the Raider victory and the Town Hall with the state education monitoring committee. The state and KCPS continue to make progress but not enough for crazy Missouri legislators as they try to fast track SB 7 to allow the state to take over unaccredited Districts without a waiting period. I was invited by a Board of Director to go to Jefferson City and speak against the bill but was not given enough notice because I had appointments scheduled today. The itinerary is full today beginning with Bible Study in the morning. After that it is off to attend the Troost Alliance meeting at St. Marks Hope and Peace where I may network with more interest parties about our community grant and set up and appointment with one group. Then home to brainstorm with another person about where to distribute the grant. The evening ...

Dana Milbank--WP Opinion Writer Congress’s daffy duck saga By Dana Milbank, Published: January 22 There are some who call it a betrayal most fowl. And yet there is poultry evidence of wrongdoing. However you bill it, this is a quacking good controversy. Our tale begins at Monday’s inauguration lunch in Statuary Hall in the Capitol. The session was arranged by Sen. Chuck Schumer, the voluble, publicity-loving Democrat from New York and aspiring majority leader who, by virtue of his status as chairman of the Senate rules committee, is the informal mayor of Capitol Hill. It was Schumer’s job to arrange the inaugural festivities, and he did so with a profound display of parochialism: Although President Obama is from Hawaii by way of Illinois, and Vice President Biden is from Delaware, Schumer treated them to a performance by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and to a feast of 23 New York ingredients, including wine, water, cheese, apples, honey, yogurt and syrup. It was the most audacious export of New York ...

Vaishali finished applying the body gel to her form. She rubbed the lathery soap all over, her skin tingling as the gel turned into suds. She grabbed the body brush and cleaned every location she could reach. When she had thoroughly scrubbed herself she turned the water back on making sure that the spray was warm, almost hot, as she rinsed the grim away with the suds. Finishing up with the shower she turned the water off and stepped out of the tub. She grabbed a thick towel and bent over while she toweled her wet hair. She had to consciously balance herself as the weight of her long wet hair and her full breasts tried to pull her over. She finished toweling her hair and wrapped the towel around her head before standing back up. She grabbed another towel and continued to dry the rest of her young body off. It had been a long day for her. Shailesh, her husband, had left for Chicago for two weeks of training that afternoon. She took him to the airport for his 3:00pm flight but ended up staying there with him ...

Little Johnny was sitting in class on Friday and the teacher said lets play a game. I'm going to ask three questions if you get it right y'all can go home early for a nice long weekend. The first question was who was the first president of the united states. Amber raised her hand first and answered George Washington. Teacher said your right see you Monday. Next question was who created the light bub? Before little Johnny could get his hand up billy beat him and answered Thomas Edison. Teacher said correct. Little Johnny was getting frustrated and wanted to be able to leave early. So he came up with an idea, before the teacher could ask the next question little Johnny rolled two black marbles down the isle toward theme front of the classroom. Teacher bent down and picked them up and said "who's the comedian with the black balls?" Little Johnny jumped up and said " Bill Cosby see you on Monday

Today's Highlight in History: On Jan. 23, 1973, President Richard Nixon announced an accord had been reached to end the Vietnam War, and would be formally signed four days later in Paris. On this date: In 1789, Georgetown University was established in present-day Washington, D.C. In 1845, Congress decided all national elections would be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. In 1932, New York Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. In 1933, the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the so-called "Lame Duck Amendment," was ratified as Missouri approved it. In 1937, 17 people went on trial in Moscow during Josef Stalin's "Great Purge." (All were convicted of conspiracy; all but four were executed.) Just a few sports shorts. Sort of a mini blog this morning here about the days sports news. First I was kingd of outraged at Tim Brown and Jerry Rice's comments about Bill Callahan the coach then changing and throwing the game so Jon Gruden and the Buccaneers could win. I dont understand everything about football strategy, but it sounds like Sour Grapes to me. Shut up guys, but then this was Al Davis organization, the Raiders. I liked and respected him some but a lot of whining about the past there. Just shut up and live with it!

Badminton history BADMINTON was invented long ago; a form of sport played in ancient Greece and Egypt. Badminton came from a child's game called battledore and shuttlecock, in which two players hit a feathered shuttlecock back and forth with tiny rackets. The game was called "POONA" in India during the 18th Century, and British Army Officers stationed there took the Indian version back to England in the 1860's. The army men introduced the game to friends, but the new sport was definitely launched there at a party given in 1873 by the Duke of Beaufort at his country place, "Badminton" in Gloucestershire. During that time, the game had no name, but it was referred to as "The Game of Badminton," and, thereupon, Badminton became its official name. Until 1887 the sport was played in England under the rules that prevailed in India. They were, from the English viewpoint, somewhat contradictory and confusing. Since a small army of badminton players had been recruited, a group formed itself into the Bath Badminton ...

You have to study this painting carefully to see what it is about. this is the 40th anniv of the Supreme court exception to pregnancy abortion. The right front tells the story with the shamed justice , the money counter, news woman , pregnant lady, a jeering official, two people holding books of some kind, a whole corner devoted to abortionist, death lurking in the background on the right edge of picture ,the rendition of what most people think the way Jesus appears. I really like this with all the presidents and the founders fallen soldiers pointing and appealing. Everyone in the background are from the grave. the people in the foreground are alive. All in front of the DC buildings, capital, hall of justice on right or supreme court building. Looks like an event on judgement day for sure. There are many recognizable faces. I'm tempted to frame it and hang it. If I could afford it get permission to bill board it. Our nations great shame. They even celebrated this along with some other terrible things a .. ...

GfaliAligarh Numaish, is one of the priceless memories Aligarians carry in their hearts. This event has been timeless in its own way because the fun experienced by aligarians of my father's time was the same as what I did. Every year, this exhibition is held at a particular time of the year (26th Jan - 15th Feb). This is the time all aligarians wait and plan for, with passionate fervor. The families wait for the numaish for buying a lot of fancy stuff while the students of AMU have their own fancies. ;-) There were some people who could boast of 100 percent attendance at the Numaish, meaning they didn't miss even a single day. Some were not so regular so they visited on alternate days. The most boring ones waited for the Exhibition Dinner sponsored by the University. When the day same, even these ‘most’ boring ones were seen dressed up in their finest suits, sherwanis and blazers as if they were about to attend a wedding reception. The age told AMU tradition has been to walk all the way to Numaish gro ...

I received this in my inbox and have sat on it until now. This is a private message from an Indian producer. At the end of this message you will see that this producer wants this story to be told... It is my responsibility to let the truth out: "Firstly I am sending a private message as I do not want to have my message appear on a social media wall. Unfortunately I am unable to attend the meeting as I am not in Vancouver. I am an independent producer who since 2010 has spent significant time outside of BC in order to seek work opportunities and financing. Interestingly I have an observation as to my experience as Telefilm Canada have been unable to support some of my projects as they were not Canadian enough and they did not know what to do with it as it was based in India. Through frustration and indeed my insight into business opportunities I travelled to India in 2011. I was advised that British Columbia had an office in Bangalore which covered New Media. When I visited the office as a film profession ...

In other news ... Monday First thing, I drag the four ginormous bags of goodies into the hall so David can put them in the car. It is amazing that the same bag can seem so much heavier or lighter depending on how I am feeling. RULES DO NOT MAKE RAM OCT 06, 2011 | MAHABHARATA, MODERN MYTHMAKING, RAMAYANA. Published in Mumbai Mirror, August 18, 2011 If there were no rules, would we be corrupt? Do rules make us corrupt? After all, only when there are rules can rules be broken or bent. Only when there are rules, do we have need for regulators and courts and auditors to keep watch over society. What would the world be without rules? The world without rules is the jungle – where might is right and only the fit survive. Humans made rules so that the meek can also inherit the earth, so that even the unfit can thrive. That is why rules exist. That is how human society came into being. Both Ramayana and Mahabharata are about human society and about rules. In the Ramayana, Ram follows the rules but in the Mahabharata, Krishna breaks the rules. We are told both are righteous. Both uphold dharma. Both are forms of God. Both fight corruption. How can that be? In the Ramayana, the villain breaks rules. Neither Surpanaka nor Ravan respect th ...

After careful consideration, Firenock has decided to withdraw its participation of the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Operating Manager for Firenock said, "I am very frustrated by Reed Exhibitions' foolish decision to ban the display of Modern Sporting Rifles and other legal firearm accessories from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show. Although Firenock is an archery accessories company, many of Firenock's loyal customers are responsible and law-abiding owners of these types of legal firearms and we will not support any organization that attempts to restrict their display or purchase." Firenock LLC reached this decision after careful deliberations and taking into account of the followings. Firenock is fully prepared for the show after 2 years of being in the "wrong place" in the show. With paid booth, prepaid travel & lodging expense, and allocation of personal for the show, it is a huge blow for the promotional effort of Firenock for calendar year 2013. As a matter ...

This afternoon I wired the lower church hall for sound. Not fancy, but workable. Tomorrow, the speakers get mounted. This evening, a perfect (good!) storm of happy circumstances culminated in a fun, productive hour or so. Thanks to a lucky find of a small TV for $30 (thanks Bill Gregg!), Lois' old monitor was redundant. I decided that the monitor would be perfect for mounting in front of my newly located Elliptical (thanks Lois Rooney-Giurin, for creating the space) Not wanting to spend money on a store bought mounting bracket, I puzzled over a solution for a couople of days. Then it hit me: angle iron, or steel. Pre-drilled, strong and cheap, it's not too different from what you get for an official bracket purchased at an electronics retailer. Being ultra-thrifty, I poked around the shop (shiver) to see if I had any of the stuff lying about! Eureka: I located three nice pieces that were left from my summer's garage door opener replacement. Eureka Squared: the holes in the bracket matched the mounting hol ...

On September 17, 1787 the Constitutional Convention came to a close in the Assembly Room of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There were seventy individuals chosen to attend the meetings with the initial purpose of amending the Articles of Confederation. Rhode Island opted to not send any delegates. Fifty-five men attended most of the meetings, there were never more than 46 present at any one time, and ultimately only [thirty-nine ]actually signed the Constitution. While offering incredible contributions [George Mason of Virginia, Edmund Randolph of Virginia, and Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts] refused to sign the final document because of basic philosophical differences. Mainly, they were fearful of an all-powerful government and wanted a bill of rights added to protect the rights of the people. 39 signers and 3 refusals = 42

Bill Hall just requested a trade. In the middle of August. Because he's on the bench. Behind Howie Kendrick. OOTP, man.
According to our friend, the esteemed radio personality Bill Hall from 91.3 The Summit in Akron, Ohio: " And while I'm on the subject of Colin John, I can't thank him enough for turning me on to Long Tall Deb's album "Raise Your Hands.". It's not easy to come up with blues songs that sound fresh and new, but she manages to do it really well, and you're not going to believe her voice. Colin plays on a couple tracks and the rest of the cast is also very talented. I think I've been commited to a party Saturday night, but I may try to sneak up to Hudson." And we would love to see you all this Saturday 12/22 at The Blue Rock Cafe, 5827 Darrow Road, Hudson, Ohio. Thanks!
Listening to Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall. I'll be eternally grateful to my old man for bringing us up listening to great music.

December 9th, 1965-The Reds deal Frank Robinson to the Orioles for Milt Pappas, Jack Baldschun and *** Simpson. The trade, now considered among the worst in baseball history, was defended by Cincinnati's general manager Bill DeWitt who claimed the outfield slugger was "an old 30", prior to the future Hall of Famer winning the American League triple crown in his first year in Baltimore.

Bill Rudisill's reemergence as laborious majority owner of the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2011 restored normalcy to the local soccer community. It was one of many actions that led to his recent election into the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame.

A small update, relating to the School Building Committee: At the first meeting on November 20th, Suzie Zavotka and Kerri McLatchy were unanimously elected Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively. The Committee agreed that their goal is to build a school (not to build a community center, or other buildings, though including some small aspects of such buildings is not out of the realm of possibility). Three sub-committees were appointed at this time (though more are sure to follow in the future). It was felt that by having smaller, more focused groups, work would be done more quickly (as trying to set a meeting for 13+ people is more hectic than setting a meeting for 5 or 6). Those three sub-committees are: -Survey: Will focus on preparing surveys/getting information from people about what they'd like to see. Members: Susie Zavotka (Chair), Janet Cowie, Bill Knittle, Dennis May, Marjorie Morse, and Kerri McLatchy -Site Visit: Will visit other schools, look at floor plans, etc... to see what might be good for .. ...
