Lok Sabha Elections: Polar contest as 32-year-old Manas takes on 75-years Bijoya Chakraborty: It will be a contest between experience and exuberance when former Union minister Bijoya Chakraborty of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) takes on Manas Bora of the Congress in Guwahati. The contest in the prestigious seat is being billed as one between a grandmother and a grandson by none other than the Congress candidate himself. The 75-year-old Bijoya is a seasoned politician. She has worked with the Janata Party and the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) before she decided to don the saffron colour. While in the AGP, she had served in the Rajya Sabha from 1986 to 1992. After the stint in the upper house, she joined the BJP and was made a Union minister in 1999 when the National Democratic Alliance came to power. In the 2004 polls, the BJP fielded legendary singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika in her place but the move boomeranged as Hazarika lost. The BJP was quick to realise the mistake and re-nominated Bijoya in t ...

Joshi breaks silence, says no Modi wave in country Lucknow, Apr 14: In what could ruffle feathers within the Bharatiya Janata Party, senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said there was no “Modi wave” in the country and dismissed the applicability of the “Gujarat model of development' in other States. joshi Dr. Joshi, who was forced to vacate his preferred Varanasi seat for Narendra Modi, said: “Mr. Modi is the representative of the party as a Prime Ministerial candidate. It's not a highly personalised thing. It is a representative wave.” “Mr. Modi gets the support from different parts of the country, from different sections of the society and from all leaders of the BJP,” the senior leader and BJP's Kanpur candidate said. New Delhi: Finance Minister P Chidamabarm has challenged Bharatiya Janata Party's Prime Ministerial nominee and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to face press conferences with his views on the economy. He has questioned as to why the Gujarat CM is reluctant to face media questions. "The problem is Modi does not say anything. He doesn't set an interview with you. You should sit down with him and ask him this question. Has he given an interview? I wish I could interview him or I should give you the questions and you should ask him," Chidambaram said in an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN. When asked whether he is ready for an open debate with Modi, Chidambaram said, "First let him set a press conference." "I am not willing to engage in a school-boy debate. We have to have a debate on a substantial subject. Now the subjects I am listing out, he must first spell out his views like I have spelled out my views," Chidambaram said. "I have a 10-point agenda at the end of my Budget speech. I want him to spell ...

Sadly, it may be historic for reasons altogether less inspiring. If, as expected, the right-wing Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the largest number of seats and installs its candidate, Narendra Modi, as Prime Minister, India will cross a blood-soaked moral Rubicon.
If BJP comes to power, will Narendra Modi's magic boost India-Pakistan trade?: “For now it is Modi, Modi, Modi for me. For the country, actually,” said Jitender Singh, a 38-year-old rickshaw driver in a purple turban in the old part of Delhi. Singh is one of the 814 million legitimate Indian voters who are taking part in the nine-stage polling process to elect 543 members of the Lok Sabha. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading the pack, and the projections are it is on its way to form the government, albeit with support from smaller as well as regional parties who are more inclined towards the BJP ideology. All eyes, therefore, are on the now possibility of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi taking over the mantle from Manmohan Singh. The various analysts and commentators on Pakistan’s electronic media and in their columns in the national newspapers generally opine that things would be rough for Pakistan once Modi settles into the driving seat at 7, Race Course Road in New Delhi. Usually, th ...

If Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party gains enough votes to put him in office as Prime Minister of India, two things are certain: The markets will rise, and india will be moving for better future . The world’s largest democratic elections are here, and the political season is getting loud in India. From April 7 to May 121 about 815 million Indians will be eligible to vote, more than twice the total population of the U.S. Befitting the enormity of the exercise, the outcome is expected to have profound implications for the world’s second-most populous nation. There seems to be no question that the ruling Congress Party will lose badly, with little chance for its handsome, uncharismatic 43-year-old campaign leader, Rahul Gandhi, whose family has dominated the party and Indian politics for more than six decades. The issue at hand is not about the BJP getting the most votes—it will—but whether Modi’s party will be in a position to form a majority coalition easily in the 545-seat lower house. .. ...
NEW BJP MANIFESTO BIDS FAREWELL TO VAJPAYEE ERA Even as an ailing Atal Bihari Vajpayee sits incommunicado in his lonely bungalow in New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to dump his agenda which was meant to neutralize the hardliners. His plan, outlined in 1996, was to put in cold storage the three key points on the party's pro-Hindu programme - building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, scrapping Article 370 of the constitution conferring special status on Kashmir and introducing a Uniform Civil Code to do away with the plethora of laws pertaining to the various communities on marriage, inheritance, etc. In the aftermath of this shelving, which highlighted Vajpayee's sobriety and moderation, he was able to constitute a 24-party coalition - the biggest in Indian politics - and form a government which lasted for its full term. It might have continued to be in office but for the Gujarat riots of 2002, which Vajpayee held responsible for his government's defeat in 2004. Among the parties which wer ...
Joint NC-Cong rallies held in Ramban, Doda districts J&K people won’t oblige BJP in polarising elections over Art 370 rant: NC DODA APRIL 12- Deploring provocative overtures of Bharatiya Janata Party towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said that inclusion of Article 370 in its election manifesto is fraught with endangering the peaceful situation in the State. “Knowing well that it can’t scrap this vital constitutional provision, the BJP has made a deliberate mischief to incite passions so as to polarise the situation in the midst of elections”, Mr Rana said while addressing a series of election meetings in Ramban and Doda district. He asserted that politicially sagacious people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will not oblige the reactionary forces by reacting to their gimmicks, as BJPs inherent agenda is not new for them. The joint National Conference-Congress meetings held at Maligam, Rajgarh, Kastigarh, Mallan (Deasa), Bhagwa, Jodhpur, Tr ...
Scene of CM OFFICE,27 Feb 2002 There was an attack on a train at Godhra, Gujarat, in February 2002. It caused the deaths of 59 people and heightened tensions between Hindus and Muslims in the region. Sanjiv Bhatt, who joined the Indian Police Service in 1988 and at the time of the tensions held the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner in the State Intelligence Bureau, subsequently claimed to have been present at a meeting involving Narendra Modi when the government response to the events was discussed. He said that the meeting determined to bring the dead to Ahmedabad prior to cremation, and that he had cautioned against this because the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the youth wing of the Hindutva-oriented Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Bajarang Dal (BD), were stirring tensions and violence might ensue.[3] The VHP had proposed a bandh (an illegal general strike) and Bhatt claimed that the then Director General of Police, K. Chakrabarthy, and the city Police Commissioner, P. C. Pandey, had raised co ...

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s wanting to implement the Uniform Civil Code will also benefit Indian Muslim Women ! The manifesto says, 'BJP believes that there cannot be gender equality till such time India adopts a Uniform Civil Code, which protects the rights of all women, and the BJP reiterates its stand to draft a Uniform Civil Code, drawing upon the best traditions and harmonizing them with the modern times'. In India, there are different set of laws for different communities pertaining to personal matters like marriage, divorce, property, adoption, inheritance and maintenance. The Uniform Civil Code implies covering all these personal laws into one unified set of a secular law, that will be applicable for each and every citizen of India irrespective of his/her religious community. The intention is to make the whole of India UNITED ! Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat !!! Ironically, this BJP is being touted as being ‘communal’ by the so-called secular (to be read as sick-ular) parties; becoz all the o ...

VOTE FOR CPI(M) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is all set to give a tough fight to the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party in a triangular contest in this Jat stronghold of Rajasthan, after emerging as a force to reckon with by spearheading the public agitations for rolling back the power tariff hike and supply of irrigation waters over the last three years. The CPI(M)’s astonishing ascendance since 2004, when it garnered only 8.5 per cent of the vote in the Sikar Lok Sabha constituency, has altered equations and has raised the possibility that the Left party could actually pull of what was regarded as impossible and win this seat. The CPI(M) has fielded its sitting MLA from Dantaramgarh, Amra Ram, who has been at the forefront of the farmers’ agitation and enjoys a rapport with the local electorate. He came third after the BJP and Congress in the 2004 election. The BJP candidate is the sitting MP Subhash Maharia, while the Congress has nominated Mahadev Singh, who lost the 2008 Assembly elect ...
ATTEMPT ON ADVANI YATRA- INSIDER JOB- MOLE HAND IN Tamil Nadu POLICE Scaling yet another daring peak of Investigative Journalism is our friend and Rediff's Vicky Nanjappa. Here is the shell shocker- Did Advani nearly fall prey to informer-cop nexus? Did an officer in the Tamil Nadu Intelligence Bureau deliberately keep mum about the plot to target BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani during his October 2011 Rath Yatra? Was a police informer behind the failed operation? Rediff.com’s Vicky Nanjappa reports Was the bombing prior to Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani’s October 2011 Rath Yatra at Madurai the handiwork of a police informer whose acts were known to a Tamil Nadu intelligence bureau official? This startling revelation was made before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court in the form of a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the matter. The allegation is being backed up by two letters written by former Madurai Superintendent of Police V Balakrishnan. According to th ...

In a first of it's kind, candidates from the ultra prestigious South Bangalore Constituency namely the Congress Party's Nandan Nilekani, Bharatiya Janata Party's Ananth Kumar, Aam Aadmi Party's Nina Nayak as well as the Janata Dal Secular's Ruth Manorama, participated in a one on one debate recently, alas, the organisers of the same had to call off this novel event midway as complete pandemonium reigned with sloganeering being the order of the day. Chaos, pandemonium and complete confusion broke out at the event that was organised by the Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) and was being moderated by the Biotech Major Biocon chief Kiran Majumdar Shaw in her avatar as an aware and concerned citizen and harbinger for change, but the same was soon reduced to a farce as the Congress and BJP workers who had inundated the crowd in large numbers began hurling abuses and jibes at each other as is their wont. As has become the norm, restive and agitated Congress workers began calling the BJP's sitting/incumb ...
Leading Indian anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal has grabbed the eyeballs in the run-up to the upcoming general election by announcing his decision to take on the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party's PM candidate Narendra Modi. The two are fighting over Varanasi, the ancient, most sacred city for Hindus in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Mr Kejriwal made a spectacular political debut in December. His party won 28 seats in Delhi's state assembly, propelling him to the post of Chief Minister in the capital. But he was only to be in office for 49 days, resigning amid a row over an anti-corruption bill. When Mr Kejriwal first broke off from his mentor, veteran campaigner Anna Hazare, to formally enter politics in 2012, many said he would find the going tough without Mr Hazare's support. But, he proved his detractors wrong, as the Delhi election results showed - his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or the Common Man's Party won 28 seats out of the 70 seats on offer. His aim now is to replicate on the nati ...
Letter Published in The National Uae on 9 April 14 Actors have love affair with politics Your story Bolly politics: a star-studded election (April 7) was a good read. But film actors joining politics in India is not a new phenomenon. Many popular actors have entered politics at some stage in their lives. However, I would like to point out that the actor Hema Malini belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party, and not Congress, as has been mentioned in the article. But the question is, do these actors serve the people? Hardly. It’s time that these people start taking their political career seriously as India really needs change. I also hope that Indians vote more carefully in this election. K Ragavan, India
=WHY SHALL I VOTE FOR BJP?= -It's all about Good Governance now!- The nation today needs a decisive leadership; commitment to building a strong state of un-compromised sovereignty, which is efficient to tackle problems of internal security as well as external threat/aggressions. It should know how to maximize the gains of liberalization and globalization, minimize its costs, and thereby ensure growth with equity and justice. India is facing several challenges. These challenges include building and strengthening of institutions that ensure Good Governance, ensuring 8-10 per cent annual growth with justice, equity and environmental preservation, tackling of terrorism without transgressing human rights, strengthening our composite culture and heritage, ensuring India’s emergence as a global power working for promoting peace, security and development in general and South Asia in particular. Do you think anarchist AAP is qualified to deliver on all these fronts? On all fronts, AAP's approach is a highly redu ...

A lot of our well-wishers are wondering why I am way behind in 'prachar', especially wall-writing. To put it simply, the answer is, in one word, 'money'. A lot of people believe that the BJP has a lot of money. Well, I can speak on behalf of the West Bengal state unit, where the opposite is true. In fact it has given rise to a funny syndrome. Quite a few people, obviously mercenaries, flock to the BJP in the hope of amassing some lucre. They get disappointed pretty soon and leave. So if you are unhappy with BJP's prachar in South Kolkata, as also elsewhere, and you are in a position to spare some of the stuff, please send it to me at P-70 Lake Road, Kolkata 700029, in a crossed cheque payable to 'Bharatiya Janata Party, West Bengal'. Every contribution, however small, will be gratefully received and acknowledged. All such donations are 100% tax-deductible under Section 80GGC of the Income Tax Act. Not that there are no other reasons. We are short of people, as we are of money. The reason for that is also ...

April 08, 2014 'The West has always preferred a timid, half intelligent and a dependent India rather than a decisively independent and self-reliant one. A pliable Indian leadership suits the West best,' says Tarun Vijay. On the eve of India's polls, it looks like the West has accepted the widespread Indian mood for change, but still wishes it has to deal with someone else but Narendra Modi. The Economist magazine brazenly displaying a Western arrogance bordering on a coloured vision, suggests in its latest issue: 'If, more probably, victory goes to the Bharatiya Janata Party, its coalition partners should hold out for a Prime Minister other than Modi.' The old colonial psyche that described us as heathens and pagans to be civilised through a hard dose of the gospel, still survives, it seems, in the editorial offices of some Western newspapers and magazines. When the economy is down and the corruption is high, a nation needs a leader with clear majority and a massive mandate to take firm, hard decisions. I ...

Source The New York Times: India’s Next Prime Minister? Narendra Modi from the Bharatiya Janata Party could possibly be India’s next Prime Minister. A look at his controversial past and economic promises One big event stained Mr. Modi’s reputation. Months after he took control of Gujarat, in 2002, Hindu-Muslim riots erupted in the state, killing more than 1,000 people, most of them Muslims. The violence was set off after a Muslim crowd attacked a train car carrying Hindu activists. The car caught fire, and 59 people burned to death inside, though a central government investigation found that the fire was an accident.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Narendra Modi set to be in power, pl adopt policy forget & forgive,JP & Devras too shared with parties in power in past! Very important direction for new government! Focus on growth and governance!
I hv studied RSS as a nation & international spread social institute, working low profile, promotes cultural values! I too have few difference of view over few points! However it is not true that either RSS or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will reverse the decision of minority status given to jains. I have confirmed thro' high level sources. Views of RSS in General - we should have homogeneous community & nation without any discrimination of caste, region, creed, economic & social conditions, etc! Most important decisive points in this election would be corruption, governance, inflation, reaching advantages to grass root levels, employ-ability, grievance handling, etc!

# NEWS REEL ….. POLITICAL – 685. The key challenges a Modi government would face …. From convincing sceptical bond investors that the fiscal deficit can be contained to concerns that El Nino will devastate agricultural crops, any new government in India will face urgent and critical challenges with no easy solutions. Expectations the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leader Narendra Modi will win elections that started this week with a new approach to India's economic problems have helped send shares to record highs and the rupee to an eight-month peak. To some investors that optimism is misplaced. Should Modi win the elections, his government will face its first credibility test with markets when he delivers a budget by June or July that will need to show the country can realistically contain its fiscal deficit. That will be followed by key decisions on the current account deficit, on the relationship with a hawkish Reserve Bank of India, on how much funds to sink into troubled state lenders, an ...
FIR against Beni for calling Modi 'biggest goonda' of RSS An FIR has been registered against Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma in Balrampur for calling Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi the "biggest goonda" of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and party's National President Rajnath Singh his "slave". District Magistrate Mukesh Chandra today said, "Beni had termed Modi as a goon of RSS and said that Rajnath Singh was his slave." Taking cognisance of the statement, the district administration has lodged an FIR at Sadullah Nagar police station for violating the Model Code of Conduct and has sent the report to the Election Commission as well. Verma had on April 1 stoked a controversy by dubbing Narendra Modi as the "biggest goonda" (goon) of RSS as the language being used by him in elections is not normally used in democracy. "Modi could not have become Prime Ministerial candidate without the nod of Rajnath Singh. This proves that Rajnath Singh is not the president of the party b ...

India's Shift to a Sustainable Energy Future An Interview with Manish Bapna By Sonia Luthra March 26, 2014 India is the world’s fourth-largest energy consumer and will likely overtake China in the next decade as the primary source of growth in global energy demand. As NBR has examined in its series of publications for the Senate India Caucus, India must overcome a number of challenges to meet its rising energy demand and sustain economic growth. The country is the world’s third-largest carbon dioxide emitter, and India’s climate and environmental challenges have been acknowledged by many policy and industry leaders. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, among others, has called for an “energy revolution” to harness the country’s coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, and wind resources to promote energy security and economic development in a sustainable manner. Mamata uses Govt. machineries to stay in power. The Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal could be cancelled if EC's orders for transferring officials isn't followed, sources in the panel in Delhi told HT on Tuesday. They said that disciplinary action could be taken against the West Bengal's chief secretary. Earlier in the day, the state government had sought clarification after the poll panel had threatened to cancel the polls. The poll body had given the West Bengal government time will 2:30pm to transfer the officials. The EC's had warning come after Banerjee said she would not "remove a single officer". The EC's transfer order came a day after the visit of the chief Election Commissioner to Bengal. There were allegations that the officials were acting in a biased manner and helping the ruling Trinamool Congress. On Monday, Banerjee lashed out at the EC, describing it as an agent of all her rivals — the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). to Dubito and all the supporters of AAP- I understand where you are coming from and that Arvind Kejriwal - has made a great leap. But I must say that it is insufficient at this point of time. AAP needs to get built and evolve and I shall do my bit for that. But honestly, I don't think they are ready to Govern India. I am confident they will make a strong opposition...and that is what I expect from them for now. I hope they don't get too many seats so that it leads to a "hung" situation. No one wants a "hung" situation. Its bad for the country. For now Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) present the strongest alternative to the Congress. BJP have done well at various levels and so has Mr Modi. I do hope that the AAP remains true to its cause and reaches a place by 2019 - wherefrom it can become a National Alternative (a third option). I am sure a loss in the upcoming elections would do a lot of good to the Congress and then we may have the luxury of 3 National options. It may also take away ...

The Telugu Desam Party leaders in Madanapalle have come to struck an unanimous stand that they would oppose giving the Madanapalle Assembly seat to the Bharatiya Janata Party as part of the talks between the two parties for forging an alliance in the assembly and General Elections. Senior party leaders, former MLA D. Ramesh, Ramadas Chowdary, DR Tulasi Prasad, Srinivasulu and others have been holding parlays for the last few days to bring pressure on party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu to drop the move to give the local seat to the BJP. Speaking to reporters, they contended that ever since the emergence of the TDP in 1982, Madanapalle remained the bastion of the party, though it was lost to the Congress Party in 2009.

A civilisation is greater than the sum of its individual values and an election is bigger, more poignant than the sum of its candidates. As one watches the drama of the current election, one realises that each candidate represents a Weltanschauung, a world view. Mr. Rahul Gandhi represents the Congress in decline, Mr. Kejriwal, a new politics of possibility dignified as the AAP, and Mr. Narendra Modi plays the BJP. Watching reflectively, one realises that while he is an effective candidate, he is a poor representation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I do not see this either as a naive or a Machiavellian statement. Anyone interested in politics should confront this possibility.

AFTER JASWANT SINGH, BJP SET TO EXPEL HIS SON MANVEDRA : New Delhi, April 5, 2014 | UPDATED 18:03 IST After Jaswant Singh's ouster, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems all set to show his son Manvendra Singh the exit route. Manvendra has been accused of canvassing for his father fighting as an independent from Barmer Lok Sabha seat. A team of BJP leaders had gone to Barmer to look into the allegations of Manvendra supporting Jaswant, instead of BJP's official candidate Colonel (Retd.) Sonaram Chaudhary. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Jaswant had been at loggerheads after the former defence minister in the NDA government had turned openly defiant at a public meeting where he held BJP chief Rajnath Singh and state Chief Minister responsible for him being denied the party ticket. As per party sources, if expelled from the party, the assembly speaker can also be requested to disqualify Manvendra as a BJP member. Global Post 8 Reasons Why India's Elections Really Matter to the World James Tapper March 31, 2014 -- New Delhi, India - With 48 countries going to the polls this year, it would be easy to dismiss India's April general election as just more democracy in action. But India is different, and not only because it is the world's largest democracy. The current Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, is stepping down which means the world will see a new leader of the subcontinent's 1.3 billion people. That new leader will rule over nearly one out of every five people on planet Earth. Favored to win is the charismatic nationalist Narendra Modi, of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, who would be expected to follow a Hindu nationalist agenda. But whoever emerges as the winner when the results are announced on May 12 will have some tough decisions to make, which will have a real impact on people around the world. Here are 8 reasons: 1. India is developing a nuclear missile that could reach the United States Sure, it's un ...

India will get tougher on territorial disputes with China and in its old rivalry with Pakistan if Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) leader Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister in May after a general election, two of his aides said. Modi, who is the front-runner to win the five-week Lok Sabha election starting on April 7, has taken an aggressive tone against the two neighbouring nations. Voters will reject BJP like in the past: Rahul. Likening the BJP's election campaign to a series of films which keep failing, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Saturday said voters will reject the party in the upcoming General Elections like in the past. Addressing an election rally here, he noted that in 2004, the BJP sought to show the entire country that India was shining but this failed to convince the voters. "People looked around and consulted their families, asked which India was shining and decided that their India was not shining. On the day of the elections, they pressed the button and burst the bubble," he said. He likened the Bharatiya Janata Party campaign to the "Dhoom" movie series. "The BJP campaign managers got together again in 2009 and said since Shining-I failed, let us make shining-2 and so they made that," he said. "But we had given loan waiver to farmers (in 2009) and had brought in the rural employment guarantee act. People again came, saw the BJP balloon and burst it," he said. ...

India’s ‘common man’ party offers much-needed political upheaval - John Eliott. Indian voters have three basic choices in the coming general election. The bravest would be to vote for the Aam Aadmi (common man) Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, in order to create the disruption that the operations of India’s political system and government machine desperately needs. Most voters of course will not do that. It looks as if they will instead vote overwhelmingly for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi, its Prime Ministerial candidate; in order to get what they hope will be instant change in terms of economic growth and business confidence, while leaving unchanged the existing corrupt basic system of political power, graft and patronage. Others will vote despairingly for Congress led by Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia because they fear Modi’s controversial reputation as Gujarat Chief Minister and the BJP’s creeping Hindu nationalism that will insinuate its way divisively into people’s dail ...

It would be just over four months later that violence would rock the State and lead to a torrent of allegations of communal conduct that would begin to rain on him — and it continues to do so to this day without any legal evidence. But back in October, preparations had begun for his election to the Assembly from Rajkot, zeroed in on by the Bharatiya Janata Party after some deliberation as the constituency for Mr Modi’s debut in electoral politics. Congress leader Ashwinbhai Kotwal had then remarked morosely: “This Narendra Modi is going to deal a deadly blow to th ...

The anti-corruption report on mining in Karnataka found that the promoters of privately-owned mining companies in the Bellary region - where most of the mines are located - paid off politicians, and then joined politics themselves, rising to positions in ...

Rumblings over constituencies By every account, the projection of Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister has catapulted the Bharatiya Janata Party from nowhere to number one position in the coming general election. But try as it might, the BJP has not been able to paper over its own internal dissensions coinciding with the rising national profile of the Gujarat Chief Minister. Over the past year, Mr. Modi has incrementally asserted his authority within the BJP, bolstered by his popularity with the rank and file and the overt support he has got from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The Gujarat Chief Minister’s reputation as a unilateralist precedes him, and his promotion to Prime Ministerial candidate has reinforced the impression that he would have his way even at the cost of injuring the self-respect of party elders, even those who have made stellar contributions to its growth. The BJP’s founder-leader, L.K. Advani, has been overruled time and again, and Sushma Swaraj, with an impressive record in ...
Why India should support NaMo 1.Gujarat has had 14 different Chief Ministers since its formation in 1960. From 1960 until 1995 they were all from the Indian National Congress party, except for eight years when the opposition Janata Party/Janata Dal ruled. Since 1995, however, the Bharatiya Janata Party has dominated, controlling the Chief Minister for all except 18 months.last 12 years there is one , he is the son of the soil. 2. Having a great idea, and assembling a team to bring that concept to life is the first step in creating a developed Country venture. While finding a new and unique idea is rare enough; the ability to successfully execute this idea is what separates the RahulG/Kejriwal(Gang) from NaMo(Team). 3.Honesty. Country and its Citizens are a reflection of NaMo, and being he is honest and man with ethical behavior, the Team Modi follow. 4.Ability to Delegate :- Brand vision is essential to creating an Independent Country, but if leader don’t learn to trust the team with that vision, Lea .. ...
2014 poll outcome will be decided by youth & women voters By Dr Satish Misra With the Election Commission's (EC) announcement of nine-phased electoral schedule for electing the 16th Lok Sabha, country's voters have become a king as every political party would leave no stone unturned to woo them so that they can come to power in New Delhi. Almost all opinion polls and election surveys are showing that the Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in ahead of not only the Congress led ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) but also to other alliances. Question being most asked and discussed is whether there is going to be a change of government or not which sole depends upon the way electorate responds to appeal and promises of different political parties. While till 2009 general election rural voters decided the fate of the political parties, a new trend became visible. Urban voter stood up to be counted and it is expected that 2014 election's outcome would be influenced by the youth ...

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was chosen to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign after a party conclave in Goa.[38][39] This came amid controversy Lal Krishna Advani opposed the decision and resigned from his party posts, only to later rescind his resignation.[40] Murli Manohar Joshi and Sushma Swaraj were part of Team 2014, under Modi's leadership, for the campaign. Rajnath Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani would be the mentors for the BJP's campaign.[41] A 12-member committee,[who?] which will be chaired by Modi, was appointed at the Goa conclave and will have other BJP stalwarts on its committee: M. Modi's Indian election bandwagon rolling as he picks up allies * Modi attracts regional allies, Congress defectors * BJP unable to win outright majority alone - pollsters * Risk that broad coalition could be fractious Opposition challenger Narendra Modi's hunt for allies to emerge from India's April-May election with a coalition large enough to rule is gaining momentum, with regional politicians flocking to team up with his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A trickle of electoral pacts that began with a tie-up in the eastern battleground state of Bihar has grown to a rush since the weekend. "Foes flock to Pied Piper Modi," read a headline in the Mail Today newspaper on Tuesday. "This is a sign of forming confidence," said Sanjay Kumar of the CSDS polling group, who sees the BJP's candidate for Prime Minister as the clear frontrunner heading into the five-week-long election that starts on April 7. Modi wants control over at least 272 of the 543 lower house seats at stake to form a majority go ...

2014 polls: Congress down, BJP far from Mission 272 IANS India Private Limited/Yahoo India NewsBy Amulya Ganguli | IANS India Private Limited/Yahoo India News – Sat 8 Mar, 2014 1 Print Next month's General Elections may prove to be the most significant ever because they can determine the fate of the Congress' first family. It is open to question whether in the event of the party's defeat, as is anticipated, the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty can continue to play its present dominant role. True, the family has survived other setbacks, notably in 1977 and in 1989. But it had the advantage in those days of being headed by charismatic leaders. That was the reason the Congress survived the crushing blows it received in 1977 to return to power in 1980 by raising its tally of Lok Sabha seats from 153 to 353. Four years later, its tally went up to 415 under another popular leader, Rajiv Gandhi. This time, however, the party cannot claim that it is led by widely acclaimed leaders. Neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi hav ...

BJP: For a strong, stable & prosperous India A fresh chapter in the history of Indian politics was written in 1980 when the Bharatiya Janata Party was born under the Presidentship of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The BJP’s precursor, the Bharatiya Jan Sangh was active in Indian politics through the 1950s, 60s and 70s and its leader Shri Shyama Pasad Mukherjee had served in the first ever Cabinet of Independent India. The Jan Sangh was an integral part of the Janata Party government under Shri Morarji Desai from 1977-1979.

Today's episode of Satyamev Jayate Season 2 showed the state of Indian Police System in a structured way , though our everyday experience. That is what we say that in 1947 , India got political freedom , but not actual Swaraj. This mis-rule of 65 years is still being continued. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says that Indian National Congress has mostly ruled India since 1947. That is true. INC has ruined India ,probably worse than Imperial British Power. But BJP has also been in power for some time at State level in some States ; but no better. Can Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley , Sushma Swaraj &other BJP leaders come forward and tell the nation what they have done in the States they have ruled?Probably Arvind Kejriwal's concept of Swaraj is the only solution!!!Just to share with u all, here in UK,we vote our Police Commissioners in our Councils!!!That is the Swaraj , Aam Aadmi Party is talking of!!!

Carnival of democracy Mar 5th 2014, 6:17 by A.R. | DELHI LET the contest begin. On March 5th India’s electoral commission, at last, set the dates for the largest democratic exercise on Earth. By mid-May, India should have a new government. From April 7th until May 12th, across nine different phases of voting in the various states, potentially 814m people will cast ballots in the general election. Counting will take place on May 16th. As in Britain, each will vote to pick a constituency representative in the national parliament, made up of 543 members. In turn, the party with most MPs gets first chance to cobble together a coalition and form a government. Opinion polls suggest the likeliest winner is the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which hopes to make Narendra Modi the next Prime Minister. The mammoth electoral effort is an example of India working at its best. It is relevant globally, as a corrective for those who are made gloomy about the worldwide prospects for democracy, given the rise o ...

By Manu Joseph: Via Ali Nadeem: ".What the elections are largely about this time is the rise of the fierce Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi — whose charm in no small measure derives from the sense of danger he exudes from having been accused of complicity in the 2002 riots in Gujarat State that resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand people, mostly Muslims — and the political responses to his ascent. The notion that Mr. Modi, who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been the principal opposition in Parliament for 10 years, is the answer to India’s woes has been propagated by the business community, which owns Indian journalism, and the urban middle class, which views the Indian National Congress as corrupt, inefficient and a reckless benefactor of the poor. The noise on social media, which is largely in favor of Mr. Modi, contains the low-stakes patriotism of Indian residents of the United States who do not have to live through the consequences of their long-distance affair with na ...

The Sangh Parivaar is an association consisting of far Hindu Right fringe elements from Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bhajrang Dal to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. “Sangh” means an association, a group. “Parivaar” means family. Meaning – association of family belonging to the same lineage, cult – in this case the indigenous people of India professing Hinduism. They consider Hindu religion as a bond uniting them, modeled on various Right wing groups formed before and after the World War II. Hindutva, the core ideal. Hindutva means an individual whose roots are embedded in the Indian country – the Indian subcontinent. Since Hinduism is the core of Hindutva, they believe in the dictatorship of the Hindus. Sangh Parivaar is dominated by the RSS whose political wing is the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier attempts to establish a political wing of the RSS in the form of Jan Sangh and later colluding it with the anti-congress parties to form Janta Party though successful initially, hit a roadbloc ...

In this post, I propose to deal with the General Election 2014 with full details. Before we take up the current situation, I would like to bring out the change in political systems after 1975. Till 1975, after the independence (1947), India did not suffer anything due to political instability. Indian National Congress was the only party ruling India with absolute majority. From 1947 till 1975 (28 years), India had only three Prime Ministers viz. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi. After the post emergency era of 1975, Congress startded losing its hold on the country fully. The emergence of Regional parties and the National party like Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), changed the political situation in India, leading to emergence of coalition Governments. Post 'Emergency' era witnessed lot of political instability in India, with 8 Prime Ministers holding Office till date after 1977. Since not much of the records of the darker days are available, the present generation has been s ...

Narendra Modi: Role Model of Governance? Early in August this year, I called somebody I know advises Narendra Modi, the powerful Chief Minister of Gujarat. Is there really any merit, I asked him, in all the fawning over Modi? “Yes,” the advisor replied without hesitation. “I’ve seen the man in action. He is a visionary. Go to Gujarat and see. He has cleaned up the administration. Investments are flowing. He is transforming the state.” My question had its roots in a now-familiar narrative. It begins from the glowing testimonials. “Modi’s leadership is exemplary, Gujarat will provide leadership beyond country,” India’s most respected tycoon Ratan Tata is quoted on the website of the Gujarat government’s flagship event, the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. Media magnate and chairman of the Zee Group Subhash Chandra considers Modi as the person who “redefined politics, performance and principles”.
