LOVE THIS GUY!!! Bernie Sanders detailed a 12-point economic program to: - Invest in our crumbling infrastructure with a major program to create jobs by rebuilding roads, bridges, water systems, waste water plants, airports, railroads and schools. – Transform energy systems away from fossil fuels to create jobs while beginning to reverse Global Warming and make the planet habitable for future generations. – Develop new economic models to support workers in the United States instead of giving tax breaks to corporations which ship jobs to low-wage countries overseas. – Make it easier for workers to join unions and bargain for higher wages and benefits. – Raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour so no one who works 40 hours a week will live in poverty. – Provide equal pay for women workers who now make 78 percent of what male counterparts make. – Reform trade policies that have shuttered more than 60,000 factories and cost more than 4.9 million decent-paying manufacturing jobs. – Make ...
Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders warned on Monday that the United States may have reached a “tipping point” where the “billionaire class” could block any presidential candidates who were fighting for the working class.

Today's news from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): Sanders Packs the House: The Progressive Democrats of America kicked off their 10-year anniversary celebration with a public dialog featuring Sen. Bernie Sanders and The Nation magazine’s John Nichols. Speaking Friday to a packed house at the First Churches in Northampton, Massachusetts, Sanders discussed economic inequality, money in politics, military spending, party politics, universal health care and the power of community organizing in a back-and-forth with Nichols. Sanders then fielded questions from the audience well into the night, The (Springfield, Mass.) Republican reported. Sanders Lays Out Agenda for Progressive Democrats: Sen. Sanders expressed his support for expanding retirement benefits and making sure everyone has access to health care and education. He pointed to a growing income disparity in the United States. He believes the most important current issue is overturning Citizens United, the Supreme Court ruling that removed limits on polit ...

I've just been reading about how the Supreme Court, half of whom are just paid corporate stooges put in place by George Bush, have devastated the last chance to have remotely fair elections in this country. Looking ahead to 2016 there are only three people I'd like to see as President at that time who would have the balls to try turning the country around. Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Edward Snowden. Yup, I'd sooner see Edward Snowden President of the United States, a man who has already proven that he is ready and willing to put his own life at risk for his country, than any of the corporate endorsed arsewipes who are selling the country, in fact the WORLD, out just so a few people can become so rich they can do anything they want without fear of repercussion. We're so far beyond Dems v GOP any more, we shouldn't be arguing any more. Both were once good parties that believed in certain principals, even if the two parties did switch positions time to time through history. Just over a ...
I just received an email from the Friends of Bernie Sanders, senator of Vermont and probably the most progressive politician in Washington. I couldn't forward the email, so I've selected some key parts. It has been a while since I last read such a concise report of the status quo in the US and abroad: Today, the United States has more income and wealth inequality than any other major country on earth. It is simply not acceptable that the top 1% owns 38% of the financial wealth of the nation, while the bottom 60% owns all of 2.3%. It is not acceptable that one family, the Waltons, own more wealth than the bottom 40% of all Americans. Economic growth means little when, in recent years, 95% of all new income goes to the top 1%. We need to establish a progressive tax system which asks the wealthy to start paying their fair share of taxes, and which ends the outrageous loopholes that enable one out of four corporations to pay nothing in federal income taxes. Wall Street: During the financial crisis, huge W ...
I am sorry, but this does not look like the "greatest nation on earth". I have always thought we were better than this. Childhood Poverty in America: The childhood poverty rate in the United States is greater than in any other major country. So as senators on Wednesday worked on a bill that would reauthorize a federal child care block grant, Sen. Bernie Sanders proposed an amendment calling on President Barack Obama to submit a five-year plan to reduce childhood poverty. “The United States of America is the richest country in the history of the world. Unfortunately, despite our great wealth, more of our citizens are living in poverty than ever before and we have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country in the industrialized world. We have a moral responsibility to end childhood poverty in America,” Sanders said.
Bernie Sanders: 'I Am Prepared to Run for President of the United States' by John Nichols "What's most important is this idea of a political revolution," says the Independent Senator from Vermont, "rallying the working families of this country around a vision that speaks to their needs."
Discussion: On Jan. 21, 2010, Sen. Bernie Sanders predicted that the Supreme Court ruling on Citizen United would “give control of the political process in the United States to the wealthiest and most powerful institutions in the world and the candidates who support their agenda. Instead of democracy being about one-person one-vote, it will now be about the size of a company’s bank account." Was Bernie Sanders's right? With 2014 midterm Election looming, what do you think?
The War on Poverty: President Lyndon Johnson declared a War on Poverty in his first State of the Union address delivered 50 years ago this week. There has been progress in the past half century. Seniors have benefited from Medicare and Meals on Wheels. Families with young children have been helped by Head Start. But the stubborn fact remains that today, as Sen. Bernie Sanders put it, “we have more people living in poverty than ever in the history of the United States and our childhood unemployment rate is the highest in the industrial world.” Watch the video: more in US News & World Report:
NSA Spying: Did the National Security Agency spy on elected officials? What should the legal consequences be for Edward Snowden for leaking classified documents that exposed the NSA’s massive surveillance of Americans’ telephone, email and Internet records? The NSA has not yet directly responded to a letter from Sen. Bernie Sanders asking if members of Congress were part of its dragnet. The agency, however, did not rule it out in a statement to journalists. Sanders discussed the surveillance in interviews on Monday with CNN and WPTZ-TV. “Are we a quote unquote free society, which we tout ourselves to be, we claim to be, if the United States Government knows every phone call you've made, knows where you are, has the capability of intercepting your emails and knows the websites that you've visited. Is that what a free society is about?” Sanders said. Watch the interview here: more here:
Opinion: “At a time when the United States has a $17.2 trillion national debt and when we spend almost as much on defense as the rest of the world combined, the time is long overdue for us to take a hard look at the waste, cost overruns and financial mismanagement that have plagued the huge Defense Department for years"~ Bernie Sanders -Working late into the night on Thursday, the Senate was to vote near midnight on a Department of Defense bill to authorize $625 billion for the military. Bernie opposed the legislation. What do you think? Do you agree with Bernie?
This is info I think needs to be put out there. Mike Ross, who is running for Governor of the State of Arkansas, is presenting himself as conservative/Moderate Democrat. I checked his bio and discovered to things that was disturbing to me. One, he has a connection to former Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, Bill Clinton. He work for him during Clintons second term of office as President. Second, which is the most disturbing to me, he is connected to the CPC (Congressional Progressive Caucus), which is a caucus within the Democrat Caucus. It was founded in 1991, Maxine Waters and Bernie Sanders are two of the six of the founders. Later, they added 15 more members, Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank were among them. It was founded, because they were not happy with the direction the Democrat Party. One of the Bills they manage to get through in 1997 was HR-950, The Job Creation and Investment Act. It also included Immigration and Nationality Act. It's was created in 1995 and the sole purpos ...
As Congress Debates Syria, U.S. Labor Force Hits 35-Year Low: A key concern of Sen. Bernie Sanders about President Obama’s request for the United States to launch military strikes against Syria is that it would divert Congress and the president from dealing with jobs and other important but overlooked issues here at home. “If we get sucked into a civil war in Syria, it will be harder to deal with 14 percent unemployment or 20 percent youth unemployment or 40 percent black youth unemployment, and the many, many other problems that this country faces,” Sanders said on Monday on MSNBC. There was, for example, startling but barely-noticEd News in the unemployment report for August, when the share of the population in the workforce hit a 35-year law. The size of the workforce declined by about 300,000 and the participation rate fell to 63.2 percent from 63.4 percent—the lowest since August 1978, according to an analysis by Peter Coy for Bloomberg Businessweek. The participation rate is the number of pe ...
As of 2013, roughly 85% of corn, 91% of soybeans, and 88% of cotton produced in the United States are genetically modified. Senate Votes Against States' Rights to Label GMOs!!! On May 23, the Senate voted down (27-71) the Sanders amendment to S.954, the Farm bill. The amendment, submitted by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), was an effort to support the existing right of states to enact their own laws requiring the labeling of genetically engineered food. You won’t be getting my vote Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz!!!
The Week in Review: Sen. Bernie Sanders on Friday put a spotlight on high unemployment among young people. On Thursday, protecting seniors from budget cuts was the focus of summit he hosted in Washington. On Thursday, Sanders renewed his call for filibuster reform after Senate Republicans used stalling tactics to keep President Obama’s nominees to head EPA and the Department of Labor bottled up in committee. A Thursday Senate speech focused on modernizing the U.S. Postal Service. And in a Wednesday column in Politico, Sanders examined the severe shortage of primary care physicians in the United States. Dental Care for Kids: Millions of children are suffering today because they do not receive Dental Care. In fact, each year, nearly 17 million low-income children in the United States do not see a dentist. Children have even died as a result of infections that could have been prevented if they only had access to a dentist. Sen. Bernie Sanders will introduce legislation later this year to address the nation’s dental crisis. His bill would expand the number of places where people can see dentists. Continue reading here:
Nuclear Power Safety: It’s been almost two years since an earthquake and tsunami caused a meltdown at a nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. It’s been more than two months since the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff recommended safety measures to protect 31 similarly-designed reactors in the United States, including one at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant along the Connecticut River at Vernon, Vt. The industry-friendly commission dragged its feet on earlier safety proposals and has not acted on the most recent staff recommendation. On Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders asked why not. He was among a dozen members of the Senate committee that oversees the federal nuclear safety agency to sign a letter from Chairman Barbara Boxer. “The tens of millions of Americans who live near the affected reactors located in 15 states should not face additional delays,” the letter said. One more reason to avoid Apple products -- "Apple: It wants all of the advantages of being an American company, but it doesn’t want to pay American taxes or American wages. It creates the iPad, the iPhone, the iPod, and iTunes in the United States. But, Apple manufactures most of its products in China so it doesn’t have to pay American wages. It funnels most of its profits through Ireland, Luxembourg, the British Virgin Islands, and other tax havens to avoid paying U.S. taxes. Without such tactics, Apple’s federal tax bill in the United States would have been $2.4 billion higher in 2011." -United States Senator, Bernie Sanders, VT-
United States Some contemporary authors have characterized the United States' current state of affairs as being oligarchic in nature.1, 2 Simon Johnson wrote that "the reemergence of an American financial oligarchy is quite recent," a structure which he delineated as being the "most advanced" in the world.3 Jeffrey A. Winters argues that "oligarchy and democracy operate within a single system, and American politics is a daily display of their interplay." Bernie Sanders (I-VT) opined in a 2010 The Nation article that an "upper-crust of extremely wealthy families are *** bent on destroying the democratic vision of a strong middle-class which has made the United States the envy of the world. In its place they are determined to create an oligarchy in which a small number of families control the economic and political life of our country." United States political and finance industry leadership has recently been dominated by people associated with Harvard and Yale. All nine members of the current Sup ...
Oh, I agree, Bernie Sanders. Now, why don't you show your sincerity? Resign your job in the Government of the United States, effective immediately, give away your own riches to those who need them more, wear rags, live without a home, and eat from a garbage can, as must the victims of the Government you serve. Put your money where your mouth is, "The People's Senator" Bernie Sanders, and join in Buddha-like compassion, the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free...you know, the ones your employer, the Federal Government of the United States, hates.
"What the Supreme Court did in Citizens United is to say to these same billionaires and the corporations they control: ‘You own and control the economy, you own Wall Street, you own the coal companies, you own the oil companies. Now, for a very small percentage of your wealth, we're going to give you the opportunity to own the United States Government." - Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator, Vermont.
*A new customs and immigration facility at Montreal's Central Station would streamline passenger rail service across the border between the United States and Canada. Joint facilities staffed by U.S. and Canadian agents would conduct the pre-clearance process of passengers traveling to and from the United States. "The economic links between Canada and the states of Vermont and New York are vital, and there is great potential to make them stronger still," said Sens. Bernie Sanders, Patrick Leahy, Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. "A smoother customs experience in Montreal will spur job creation and economic opportunities on both sides of the border," they added. The senators urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to finalize an agreement.*

The truth is that Mr. Obama is the single most liberal senator in the entire U.S. Senate. He is more liberal than Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, or Mrs. Clinton. Never in my life have I seen a presidential frontrunner whose rhetoric is so far removed from his record. Walter Mondale promised to raise our taxes, and he lost. George McGovern promised military weakness, and he lost. Michael Dukakis promised a liberal domestic agenda, and he lost. Yet Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he's not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant. Mr. Obama talks about getting past party, getting past red and blue, to lead the United States of America. But let's look at the more defined strokes of who he is underneath this superficial "beauty." Start with National Security, since the president's most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preco ...
