NEW CLASS OFFERINGS! - JAZZ, YOGA, TEEN YOGA, KIDS YOGA! TUESDAY NIGHT JAZZ at the Afro Brazilian Cultural Center of New Jersey happens every Tuesday from 8pm-9pm. Come celebrate life and the love of dance with a fun and funky cardio warm-up followed by some traditional jazz moves. Yesterday we held our 4th Annual Women's Empowerment Day at Bergen Community College where I am on the Board of Trustees. We had the privilege of lunching with Mary Higgins Clark before she gave the keynote speech. What a delightful woman.

Today, I spoke as a panelist at Bergen Community College on the forum titled "Latinos In Suburbia" which discussed social, cultural, educational, and economic impact of the growth of the Latino population in suburban neighborhoods, including neighborhoods that have not been accustomed to community diversity. It was an empowering and enlightening forum that was well-attended by students and community leaders in Bergen County, New Jersey. The forum was part of Bergen Community College's Hispanic Heritage Month series of events. Bergen Community College is the largest community college in New Jersey. I proudly serve as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The 6th Annual Paramus Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk — held in honor of my father-in-law, Ron Weber — takes place tomorrow, September 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Bergen Community College at 400 Paramus Road in Paramus, NJ. Over the past five years, the Paramus Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk has raised over $750,000, every penny of which has gone toward research. The Walk raises funds for The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. There are no early detection methods for pancreatic cancer, no effective treatments and no cure. Please consider supporting this important event.

Some very big news from the Board of Trustees meeting last night: Dr. B. Kaye Walter, the former chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College, Central Indiana Region, was named the seventh president of Bergen Community College. She will arrive on campus next week. On my way back home to New Jersey after a very empowering and memorable evening in Washington, DC where I was a guest for the annual Leadership Conference For Civil & Human Rights Hubert Humphrey Awards Gala. It was a packed ballroom of leaders, legends, and rising stars in the civil and human rights movement who believe in the common mission that regardless of our race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or immigration status, we are all entitled to civil and human rights and we are all God's children!!! It was truly an honor for me to attend tonight's gala. My congratulations to NCLR President & CEO Janet Murguia and Congressman Barney Franks who were this year's award honorees. Tomorrow morning will be another special day. I will join my fellow Board of Trustees when we hand out college degrees and shake hands with the graduates of the Class of 2012 of Bergen Community College.
