Berekum Chelsea coach Tony Lokko has turned down an offer to become the assistant coach of Hearts of Oak, reports in the local media claimed on Tuesday. Lokko, who has been under pressure since joining the Blues at the start of the season, is being courted to replace Mohammed Polo. Media reports in the West African country suggested on Tuesday that the ex- Tema Youth boss rejected the offer on the grounds of working under Polo as an assistant. Lokko is believed to be unhappy and unsettled at Chelsea with claims officials have not fulfilled the contractual obligations since he signed a two-year deal in July last year. Hearts see Lokko as a long-term replacement for fellow under-fire coach Polo, who has endured an unflattering start to life at the club. It is widely believed that the ex-Ghana international will leave the club at the end of the season. admin - nEshun
Black Stars defender Lee Addy has revealed that Ghana’s World Cup Group G opponent Portugal’s danger man Cristiano Rolando could easily be stopped by him if he makes the squad to Brazil 2014. Ghana will cross swords with Portugal in their last Group G match in Brasilia on 26 June and the talk has been about who can stop the in-form Real Madrid goal machine. Baba Armando explodes: Asamoah Gyan can't win a trophy for Ghana Ex-Ghana international Baba ‘Armando’ Adamu has launched a blistering attack on the current crop of Black Stars players describing their quality as poor with the exception of Andre Ayew. The Berekum Chelsea player claims the players lack the depth-in quality required to help the country to end a 31-year wait for an African crown. The 33-year-old claims apart from Andre Ayew, none of the current generation of players have the knack to win any silverware for the West African country. According to the controversial player, the legendary Abedi Pele, Abdul Razak, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Osei Kofi and himself are the only players who showed exceptional qualities during their playing days for the Black Stars. He doubt the ability of the players to ever win the African Cup of Nations title which has remained elusive for the past 31-years. “”Counting from the captain Asamoah Gyan to the last player in the team now, there is no gifted or quality ...

But the decision of the former Great Olympic player to switch camp from Hearts to Kotoko under controversial circumstances in 2003 is highly regarded as the genesis of his problem. Taylor has never been the same since he left the Kumasi-based side after just a season with troublesome injuries taken the better part of a rather exciting career. Black Stars striker Emmanuel Clottey has had his contract with Tunisian giants Esperance terminated. The club’s spokesperson, Isaac Amponsah says that Esperance were unable to pay the agreed transfer fee of $1.5 million due to certain restrictions in Tunisia, adding that the situation has resulted in a mutual agreement to end the contract. “Clottey got a three year contract and as a club, we were supposed to get $1.5 million as the transfer fee. Clottey himself was to receive $500,000 a year for the duration of the contract. "However, certain restrictions prevent Esperance from paying such an amount of money directly to a club outside the country and so it meant that it would take a very long time for us to receive the money. That, coupled with their reluctance to pay the money, led us to contact them in a bid to terminate the contract.” Isaac Amponsah say Clottey would revert back to Berekum Chelsea for now, noting that many clubs, including DR Congo’s TP Mazembe are interested in signing the str ...

FOOD FOR THOUGHT by Dennis Mirpuri: Today, we sit here and celebrate a total of six locally based players who have been selected into the provisional squad of the Black Stars, some of which may even be dropped from the final 23 man list. Fatau Dauda (AshantiGold), Daniel Adjei (Liberty Professionals), Richard Kissi Boateng (Berekum Chelsea), Rashid Sumaila (Asante Kotoko), Solomon Asante (Berekum Chelsea) and Yahaya Mohammed (Amidaus Professionals). Two foreigners Henri Troare of Ashgold and Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye are in the Burkina Faso camp but the question is: How many players would make it into the Black Stars team and into other African national teams, if more investments are channeled into the improvement of the Ghana Premier League? Think of how many fantastic players would have stayed in the country to play for longer years. The economy is expanding, but what positive effect is this fact having on the local top flight? After 15 matches in the ongoing Glo Premier League, the league log doesn’t really look like what many people expected. For example, some expected defending champions Asante Kotoko to pick up where they left off last season, with Berekum Chelsea, without the added encumbrance of a continental campaign, to challenge them. Instead, the likes of Medeama SC and former champions Aduana Stars have come to the fore. Again, Hearts of Oak were expected to challenge for honours, but 15 games and two coaches later, the former African champions are in the drop zone. This piece will attempt to provide an analysis of each team’s performance throughout the first round.   Medeama SC strengthened wisely in the close season and from their performances, most of the signings were inspired. Bismark Asiedu came in from Dwarfs; Otuo Acheampong returned to the club from Wassaman United and the signings of starlets Joseph Gordon and Victor Ayire from the lower divisions have proved to be bang on the money, as Gordon showed in ...

PREVIEW Unhappy Kotoko look for festive cheer Two relegation sides could mar the already blighted Premier League festive season for Ghana's two traditional sides, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak on Boxing Day. Struggling Real Tamale United, who are sitting at the foot of the table and still winless take on Kotoko, who were finally beaten over the weekend in the Glo Premier League after 11 matches. Both sides will meet at the Baba Yara Stadium with Kotoko looking for a quick response while RTU attempt to win their first game to bring an end to their poor run. Last from bottom, Berekum Arsenals host David Duncan's Hearts of Oak side. The Phobians are winless in the last four outings and are even closer to the relegation zone, a point and a place above the bracket ahead of their visit to the Golden City Park. At the top, Berekum Chelsea have the chance to hold onto their place if they get all three points from the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman when they meet Liberty Professionals. With a draw over the weeke ...

Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani believes his team’s superior quality is good enough to draw a win out of Tema Youth on Sunday. The champions will be looking to get back to winning ways after playing a disappointing 0-0 draw with Hearts of Oak in their last game. Though unbeaten in the seven games played so far, Kotoko have been unable to translate their thorough dominance in matches into goals and more ultimately into wins. But coach Dramani remains confident of his team’s chances against a good Tema Youth side who are desperate for a win themselves. “I believe with the quality we have, we should be able to beat a team like Tema Youth,” he said. “We have been playing well only that we have not translated it into goals. “But I believe my boys will deliver and put up a good performance on Sunday and hopefully we’ll get the win.” Kotoko are currently sixth in the Ghanaian top flight with 11 points – three behind leaders Berekum Chelsea ahead of Sunday’s game ...

Lets face it...Matches between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are not exciting anymore. The quality in their teams have dipped so bad. I was very disappointed watching them in that poor showing yesterday. No wonder the likes of Aduana Stars, Berekum Chelsea and the rest are now winning the titles. In fact if they don't sit up, they will never be relevant in the African competitions for the next decade. If this is Ghana's version of El-Classico then its a pity.
