The judges’ dilemma The Supreme Court faces an extraordinary dilemma. By ordering an internal probe into the allegations made by a former law intern against Justice (retd.) A.K. Ganguly, it had shown alacrity in protecting the image of the judiciary and responsiveness towards the plight of an aggrieved woman. The disclosure of the preliminary finding of a three-judge panel, that the former judge had indulged in an act of “unwelcome behaviour” towards the intern, led to Mr. Ganguly’s resignation from the post of Chairperson of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission. The court now has to contend with yet another challenge to its image and credibility in the form of a complaint by another former intern who has alleged she suffered an unsavoury experience at the hands of Justice Swatanter Kumar, when he was a Supreme Court Judge. Mr. Kumar, who is now Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal, has denied the allegations. The former intern has now approached the court with a petition seeking a perman ...
Disgraced Justice A.K. Ganguly’s resignation as Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission is too little too late. His sordid saga has sadly irreparably stained and blemished the entire Indian Judiciary. That such a person rose to be a Judge of the country’s highest temple of Justice leaves many questions unanswered. It only demonstrates how flawed the selection process of judges is. With no checks and balances to filter and weed out such undesirable elements. This alleged gross sexual misconduct by A.K.Ganguly cannot be shelved and put to rest by his mere resignation. The wheels of justice should move speedily a la Tarun Tejpal.Infact he should be dealt more sternly and unsparingly because he was a Judge of the Supreme Court when he did something nobody should ever venture at. And that law intern may not have been his only victim. By now crying sour grapes in claiming that the Supreme Court panel had acted without jurisdiction in hearing the complaint against him, Justice Ganguly has only st ...

Mohun Bagan used female intern to frame A K Ganguly: PIL New Delhi: A day after the Centre decided to seek the Supreme Court's opinion whether justice A K Ganguly's alleged misconduct warranted his removal from West Bengal Human Rights Commission, a pro-Ganguly PIL on Friday sought his protection from arrest and quashing of proceedings against him. UK-educated doctor M Padma Narayan Singh, who said she was daughter of 'legendary' former judge P N Singh, in her PIL was critical of the manner in which the system - criminal law, police, media, judiciary and government - operates in India, in stark contrast to western world, resulting in abuse of process and maligning personalities, in this case Justice Ganguly. The PIL petitioner threw in a new spin by alleging the controversy was conspiracy hatched by Mohun Bagan. "In this well planned conspiracy against justice A K Ganguly, the Mohun Bagan has used the female intern who had prepared the case report on Mohun Bagan in the above said arbitration matter betwee ...
