Bayou Classic & Baton Rouge

The State Farm Bayou Classic is the annual college football game between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars, first held under that name in 1974 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, although the series itself actually began in 1936. Since 1978 the game has been held the final Saturday in November (i.e., the Saturday after Thanksgiving) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Baton Rouge (French: Bâton-Rouge ; Choctaw: Itta Homma; red stick ) is the capital of the U.S. 1.0/5

There have been a couple of individuals who indicated that it's okay for the hotels in Ruston to charge close to $300 per night because of supply and demand but I say to you that it's not. First, overcharging us one weekend will not keep them in business. Second, using Tech's homecoming as an excuse will not work either because we know who occupies the hotels. Third, what we now pay for hotels in New Orleans for the Bayou Classic is lower than what they want to charge in Ruston. The reason why is because many people who would drive from Baton Rouge, Grambling, etc. stop paying the high prices in New Orleans so business went down. When this happened they were forced to listen to the concerns and lower the prices. As much as I would like to be close to the campus the truth is I'm willing to make the sacrifice and drive from Shreveport to Grambling. Furthermore, Shreveport offers more for us to do after the game than what's currently offered in Ruston anyway. With the extra $150 or more we will save w ...
Didn't end up going to Baton Rouge for the game. Really wanted to see the Human Jukebox (SU Band) b/c I don't think that I will get to the Bayou Classic.
"excerpt from my book Chapter 8 subchapter 6 entitled "My Southern Home" "A young lady that I had met at the Bayou Classic and befriended picked me up from the Baton Rouge Airport. The airport was only a short drive from the university and at her suggestion we drove to the campus. It was late evening and the South Louisiana sky was dark. The university was still closed for the summer and the campus was relatively empty as there was no persons present. As we entered the campus and drove over what the young lady described as the “hump” I looked out of the car window I could hear the waters of the mighty Mississippi River rushing down river towards the gulf of Mexico. The well lit campus caused the buildings to appear majestic under the Baton Rouge night sky. As we neared the site of the law school complex we passed a lake that had fountains in the center. The lights emerging from the lake danced under the moonlight with the sprays of water jutting up and caused a miraculous display of color. Onl ...
By now y'all should be aware that I'm a did-hard Blackhawks fan. Let me just mention quickly that even if ur not quite the puck-lover I am, I hope thru the course of the next week or so, you'll just take a little time and watch the Stanley Cup Championship between the 'Hawks and Boston Bruins. These are 2 "Original 6" teams, with storied pasts (and even the same uniforms from the beginning). A Cup final between 2 teams from that time last happened back in 1979...it's quite a rarity. Plus both the 'Hawks & Bruins are playing great team hockey which should set up to be a classic series. If by chance you do take the time and watch, I hope you'll enjoy and appreciate what extraordinary athletes these guys are and the sport they play. My dad & I used to watch them on the ol' b&w, Ch. 9 (WGN) when Jack Brickhouse & Vince Lloyd called the games...and that tradition is still alive in my heart. Not to mention that my "bayou beauty" Tara, has now indoctrinated the folks down in Baton Rouge of championship Blackhawk ...
Its so peaceful here in Baton Rouge during Bayou Classic weekend since all the kids have gone to the city. Think i'll make it a red box weekend.
