Xabi Alonso believes Bayern Munich team-mate Manuel Neuer deserves to win the 2014 Ballon d'Or after playing a major role in Germany's World Cup triumph.
Alonso: Hard for a German to beat Messi & Ronaldo to Ballon d'Or 19-Nov-2014 The midfielder feels a German player has a chance if the award is decided on team success, but the Madrid and Barca stars have it wrapped up based on individual displays Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso believes that it would be tough for a German player to beat Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to the Ballon d'Or. The veteran Spaniard made a surprise summer move to the Allianz Arena from Real Madrid, where he played alongside Ronaldo and enjoyed many battles with Messi's Barcelona. A number of Bayern's contingent of German World Cup winners are nominated for the prestigious award, including the likes of Philipp Lahm, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer, but Alonso feels the Liga pairing are still ahead of the competition in terms of individual performances. He told Sport Bild: "It's a very general question: is the award about individual, personal performances? "In this case, it would be tough against Messi and Ronaldo. Or is it about t ...

Rodriguez, Real Madrid top AP Global Football 10 LONDON (AP) — James Rodriguez held off Cristiano Ronaldo to take the top spot in the Associated Press global football 10 poll on Tuesday. Rodriguez scored twice in Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Granada, a result that kept Madrid at the top of the team vote. For the second straight week, Ronaldo is the runner-up to one of his Madrid teammates, despite scoring his 22nd goal of the season. Last week's winner, Karim Benzema, also scored in Madrid's victory but dropped to fifth. Aurelio Capaldi of RAI Sport in Italy praised Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for getting the best out of Rodriguez so quickly. "Ancelotti is probably living the best time of his coaching career: 11 wins in a row is an amazing result and the way he's making things work after Real Madrid sold Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso is impressive," Capaldi said. "This also explains why Rodriguez, who is scoring fabulous goals, already fits well in the team." Bayern Munich's 2-1 comeback win over Boruss ...

Forza-Italian-Football: Xabi Alonso: Roma match is vital for Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich midfielder, Xabi Alonso, has insisted that he enjoyed every minute at Real Madrid but he felt it was the right time to leave the club.
Carlo Ancelotti has been discussing comings and goings at Real Madrid, with Angel Di Maria demanding too much to stay. The Argentina international brought a four-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu to an end over the summer when completing a British record £59.7million transfer to Manchester United. Real were reluctant to part with one of their most creative influences, but refused to bow to his salary requests. Experienced performers such as Xabi Alonso and Diego Lopez were also moved out, to Bayern Munich and AC Milan respectively, and Ancelotti insists all of the sales sanctioned made sense for the players and club. He told Cadena COPE: “Di Maria? I was in agreement with the club. There are times when the club needs to say no. You can’t change the policies of the club for one player. “Di Maria asked for a lot of money and preferred to leave to go find it. The club couldn’t give him the money he wanted. They say that I’m the manager of the club; of course, I coach for the club, not for the pla ...

Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid for Manchester City? Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set for a shock exit from Real Madrid at the end of season with Manchester City leading the race for his signature. According to The Express, the 29-year-old Portugal international is "determined" to leave the Spanish capital and is thought to be unhappy with the sale of Angel Di Maria to Manchester United and Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich. Los Blancos are rumoured to be looking for a fee in the region of £60m for the 2014 FIFA Ballon D'or winner and the Premier League champions are said to be a viable destination. However, City may face competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain with Les Parisiens willing to meet his wage demands and Real's price tag. The possibility of a return to Old Trafford remains, but manager Louis Van Gaal is reportedly mulling alternative options. Ronaldo scored a penalty in Real's 2-1 derby defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Xabi Alonso has agreed to join Bayern Munich from Real Madrid, the German club have announced. £5million deal
ROLL OUT THE BARREL. LIVERPOOL are on red alert after it emerged that Real Madrid are ready to part ways with Xabi Alonso this summer. The Champions League holders have moved to bring in Monaco's James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos during the current transfer window, heating up competition for places in midfield. Manchester United target Angel Di Maria is set to be offloaded to French champions Paris St-Germain, whilst question marks remain over the future of Sami Khedira, who is being chased by both Arsenal and Chelsea. However, Spanish outlet El Confidencial claims that Carlo Ancelotti would rather part with Anfield favourite Alonso after the midfielder returned from Spain's abysmal World Cup campaign in poor condition. It is claimed that Alonso's fitness has shocked Real's coaching staff, and that the 32-year-old appears to be lacking the strength needed to dominate in the middle of the park. Alonso already looked set for a season on the sidelines, with Ancelotti planning to deploy Kroos alo ...

Manchester United face a losing battle to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos. According to reports in Spanish newspaper El Confidencial incoming United boss Van Gaal telephoned Kroos in an attempt to persuade him to join the Old Trafford side instead of Real Madrid. The news comes in the wake of several reports that have claimed Real Madrid now lead the race to sign the Germany international. Bayern Munich reportedly would prefer to do a deal with Real Madrid over United, having worked with them closely before on several big transfer deals - including Arjen Robben's move. Real Madrid could also use Sami Khedira as a makeweight in any deal to bring Kroos to the Bernabeu. Central midfield is a position Carlo Ancelotti has targeted as one to strengthen this summer. Asier Illarramendi has not worked out so far, and Xabi Alonso is getting any younger. The reigning Champions League winners have been linked with Kroos and Chelsea's Ramires, as well as Juventus duo Paul Pogba and Art ...
Uefa Champions League FINAL: Real Madrid: How Will They Line Up in Champions League Final Against Atletico? It may have been 40 years since Atletico Madrid last showed their face in a Champions League final—when it was still known as the European Cup—but the 12 years Real Madrid have been forced to wait since their last appearance at this stage feels like a lifetime given their cravings to lift the trophy for the 10th time. At last, on Saturday evening in Lisbon, Los Blancos now have the chance to win La Decima, and it will be all the more sweeter if they can do it against their city rivals. According to Spanish publication AS, "15,000 cars and 600 buses (around 90,000 people)" split between the two clubs will make the trip from Madrid to Portugal Before Carlo Ancelotti even assesses the fitness of his patched-up squad, he already knows he will be without Xabi Alonso. The Spanish international midfielder was booked in the semifinal second leg against Bayern Munich and will miss the match suspended. Ma ...
Real Madrid-Espanyol Preview: Ancelotti's men face Champions League final warm-up Real Madrid end their Liga season against Espanyol on Saturday - but all eyes will be on another capital versus Catalunya clash at Camp Nou. A run of three games without victory has ended any hopes Real had of winning La Liga, so their meeting with Javier Aguirre's side represents little more than an undercard clash ahead of the title-deciding bout between their arch-rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which kicks off two hours later. Carlo Ancelotti's men have taken just two points from their last three league fixtures, meaning they have gone more than two Liga games without winning for the first time since May 2009. Real's poor run of domestic form has followed their stunning 4-0 Champions League semi-final second-leg demolition of Bayern Munich. And it is safe to say Ancelotti will now have more than one eye on next Saturday's Champions League showpiece with neighbours Atletico, when Real go in search of their long-awai ...
Xabi Alonso will not play in the Champions League final should Real Madrid knock out Bayern Munich after picking up a booking in the semi-final second leg
Real Madrid ROAR POWERFULLY INTO FINAL Real Madrid blew Bayern Munich away to reach the Uefa Champions League final with a 4-0 second leg victory which secured a 5-0 aggregate success. Sergio Ramos took advantage of some woeful marking to head home twice from set pieces in the opening 20 minutes before Cristiano Ronaldo put the finishing touch to a devastating counter-attack in the 34th minute in a blistering opening half from the Spanish giants. Ronaldo added a fourth with a late free-kick and the only downside for Carlo Ancelotti's side, who will face either city rivals Atletico Madrid or Chelsea and former boss Jose Mourinho in the Lisbon final next month, was the needless booking for midfielder Xabi Alonso which rules him out of the showpiece. Pep Guardiola's reigning European champions had dominated possession in the first leg at Santiago Bernabeu last week, only to leave Spain with a 1-0 deficit after Karim Benzema struck. Any hopes they had of working their way back into the tie were obliterated by ...

Champions League semifinal - Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid at Allianz Arena on 30 April 2014. Match starts at 12:30 am India time. It's the clash between two of the biggest spenders in club football. Real Madrid are worth 425 millions and Bayern are worth 314 million pounds in player values. Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have been good with their respective teams but RM stands a better chance after the 1-0 lead in the first leg. Bayern were tactically naive in the first leg where RM played without Gareth Bale and CR without full fitness. Will the Bavarians get the two required goals and prevent RM from scoring that 1 away goal? Real Madrid: Iker Casillas; Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Dani Carvajal; Ángel di María, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modrić; Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale. Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; David Alaba, Dante, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm; Javi Martínez; Franck Ribéry, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben; Mario Mandžukić.

TACTICAL ANALYSIS Bayern Vs Burussia By Jonathan Wilson About a month before Borussia Dortmund beat Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League, their coach, Jurgen Klopp, was asked how his side had twice come out on top of games against Jose Mourinho’s team in the group stage. Easy, he replied: shut down Xabi Alonso and everything else follows. He must have regretted being so open when Dortmund faced Madrid again, but the principle held true. Xabi Alonso is the player who sets Madrid’s rhythm: the majority of moves flow through him. So Mario Gotze harried him every time Madrid had possession and, when Dortmund got the ball, rapidly trotted off to overload on one flank or the other with Ilkay Gundogan advancing from deep in midfield to monitor Alonso. Bayern Munich don’t play in quite the same way but their shape is similar to Madrid’s and they have a tendency to play through Javi Martinez. Logic, then, would suggest that if Gotze had been fit, he would have performed a similar role on ...

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has moved to quash rumours of a move back to the Premier League by insisting he plans to stay at the club next season.
