World Cup 2014: Miroslav Klose confirmed in Germany squad Record-chasing Miroslav Klose will go to his fourth World Cup after being named in Germany's final 23-man squad. The 35-year-old striker needs two more goals to beat the record total of 15 held by Brazilian Ronaldo. Hoffenheim forward Kevin Volland was cut from the provisional squad, meaning Arsenal's Lukas Podolski is their only other option as a striker. Klose scored five times in the 2002 and 2006 World Cup finals and four in the 2010 tournament in South Africa. The Lazio striker shares second place in the list of all-time World Cup finals scorers with compatriot Gerd Muller. The pair are also joint top scorers for Germany with 68 goals each. Pizarro extends Bayern deal Bayern Munich forward Claudio Pizarro has extended his contract with the domestic double winners by one season to 2015, the Bavarians said on Tuesday. The 35-year-old Peru international, who joined Bayern in 2012 for a second spell after three years at Werder Bremen, scored 10 league goals in 17 matches last season, utilised mostly as a late substitute. Pizarro, the Bundesliga's all-time foreign top scorer with 176 goals in 370 matches, emerged as an invaluable option for coach Pep Guardiola after leading striker Mario Mandzukic fell out of favour towards the end of the season. "Claudio proved again this season how dangerous he is in front of goal and how important he is for the team," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement. "We are happy to be able to continue counting on his abilities." Pizarro played at Bayern from 2001-2007 before returning to Bremen in 2009, for whom he played in 1999-2001, after an unsuccessful two-season spell at Chelsea.
All to play for in semi-final showdowns (FIFA.com) Monday 28 April 2014 Share With just one goal scored in last week's UEFA Champions League semi-final openers, the return legs ought to serve up plenty of drama and intrigue on Tuesday and Wednesday. Bayern Munich tackle Real Madrid for the 22nd time needing to score at least one goal to salvage their dream of retaining the title, whereas Los Merengues are the only club in the last four able to defend first-leg gains. As for Atletico Madrid, the sole team still unbeaten in the competition, their incredible adventure continues away against a Chelsea side brimming with belief. First semi-final, Tuesday 29 April Bayern Munich-Real Madrid (first leg: 0-1) The scoreline did not tell the whole story during Bayern's 5-2 win against Werder Bremen on Saturday as Josep Guardiola's men put in a Jekyll and Hyde display, labouring in the first half before hitting their stride after the break. The good news was that Franck Ribery seemed to rediscover his form, and the h ...
Guardiola wants to see Ribery's 'angry' side.. 28-Apr-2014 5:24:00 PM The Spaniard has called on the Frenchman to deliver a match-winning performance as his side bid to reach the Champions League final Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has called on Franck Ribery to deliver an "angry" performance against Real Madrid on Tuesday. The European champions enter the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie a goal behind thanks to Karim Benzema's strike in the first encounter last week. Ribery, who has gone through a difficult run of form of late, scored in the weekend's 5-2 victory over Werder Bremen and the Spaniard wants the French winger to deliver a match-winning performance against the Spaniards. "Franck Ribéry is very important and necessary for us," he said at a press conference. "He has been at Bayern longer than me. I am happy of course if he plays well, with energy and motivation. He sometimes needs an angriness and I am sure he will play very well tomorrow. "He has this fighting spirit. H ...

My condolences, and those of my parents, siblings and the rest of my family." "We knew each other from a very young age and shared many things; we lost and won together. We wanted to take on the world, and we did. All I can say is that the pain I feel will stay with me forever," Guardiola remarked. Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos‘ brother Felix Kroos indirectly revealed that his brother has received an offer from English Premier League side Manchester United while talking to Sky Germany . “We have already talked about it. Manchester has been the team of my dreams since I was a child,” Felix said. “However, I don’t give him any advice. He will take a good decision for himself. There are worse situations than having to decide something like that.” Felix Kroos, aged 22, is a footballer himself and plays for German side Werder Bremen. Toni Kroos was heavily linked with a move away from Allianz Arena in the last transfer window after he had a short rift with manager Pep Guardiola regarding contract extension, but however, things seem to have improved now. Kroos’ current contract with the German Champions expires in 2015

Ballack: Ozil has Not been Accepted by his Teammates.Retired German midfielder Michael Ballack insists that playing for Arsenal I sapping the confidence out of Mesut Ozil. The German came to north London from Real Madrid for a record fee of £42.5m but has failed to justify his price tag thus far with his performances this season not reminiscent of his capabilities. The Gunners lost their round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich for the second year in succession at the Emirates, but the result could have been so different if the former Werder Bremen man had managed to convert the penalty which he had won in the opening eight minutes. The 25-year-old befuddled his compatriot Jerome Boateng as the defender failed to cope with Ozil's quick feet in the box and fouled him to give Arsene Wenger's team a clear penalty. However, faced against his former training partner, Manuel Neuer, Ozil failed to put the ball into the net as the Bayern Munich stopper stayed on his feet to punch the ball away. Bayern Munich tore Werder Bremen to shreds in a 7-0 win that extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to seven points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen's meeting with Borussia Dortmund. Assani Lukimya gave Bayern a hand by scoring an own goal in the 21st minute, but Ballon d'Or candidate Franck Ribery soon took charge of the match to inspire Bayern to a convincing victory. Daniel van Buyten made it two in the 27th minute before the Frenchman got his name on the scoresheet to give Bayern their biggest half-time advantage of the season so far. He then teed up Mario Mandzukic to make it four before Thomas Muller put Bayern 5-0 ahead. Ribery added a sixth before Mario Gotze completed the rout to both compound Bremen's misery and help assert Bayern's authority on the Bundesliga once again. Bremen started the game solidly but, once their defence was breached for the first time, with more than just a small portion of misfortune, the game transformed. Ribery sent in a low cross from the left and Luk ...

The Dutch star suffered a knee injury in Bayern's German Cup third round 2-0 win at Augsburg, the club said. Robben, 29, was stretchered off after colliding with Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. "Robben has a deep cut down to the knee joint," said Bayern team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt. He will also miss Saturday's league trip to Werder Bremen. Golden year of munich {1965-79} In their first Bundesliga season Bayern finished third and also won the German cup. This qualified them for the following year's European Cup Winners' Cup, which they won in a dramatic final against Scottish club Rangers, when Franz "the Bull" Roth scored the decider in a 1–0 extra time victory.[15] In 1967 Bayern retained the cup, but slow overall progress saw Branko Zebec take over as coach. He replaced Bayern's offensive style of play with a more disciplined approach, and in doing so achieved the first league and cup double in Bundesliga history in 1969. Bayern Munich are one of four German clubs to win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double along with Borussia Dortmund, 1. FC Köln, and SV Werder Bremen. Zebec used only 13 players throughout the season.[17] Udo Lattek took charge in 1970. After winning the cup in his first season, Lattek led Bayern to their third German Championship. The deciding match in the 1971–72 season against Schalke 04 was the first match in the ...
Werder Bremen have announced the permanent signing of Nils Petersen from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract. The striker has spent the last year on loan at Werder, scoring 11 goals in his 35 appearances for the club as they survived relegation with one game of the Bundesliga season remaining. His move to Werder proved a good one, as he ended the season as the club’s joint top goalscorer with Aaron Hunt and impressed the hierarchy enough to want to sign him on a permanent basis. “We’re delighted that Nils will be continuing to go for goal wearing the Werder crest over the coming years,” sporting director Thomas Eichin told the club’s official website. “He’s shown this season that he fits in perfectly here. “We know he’s got tremendous potential and now, with this long-term arrangement, we’re confident he can maintain his progress and become a cornerstone of the team in Bremen.” Peterson joined Bayern in May 2011, having been second division top scorer for Energie Cottbus, but he fo ...

Munich - A much-changed FC Bayern Munich ran SV Werder Bremen ragged to continue their seemingly unstoppable march towards the Bundesliga title, opening up an 18-point lead at the league summit thanks to a 6-1 demolition of their guests. Bremen initially held their own, but strikes from Arjen Robben and Javi Martinez soon ended any hopes Thomas Schaaf's men might have had of picking up points. Bayern hit four in the second half, with Bremen's only consolation coming through Kevin de Byrune's strike to become the first player to beat Manuel Neuer in the league this year. Munich makeover Despite, or perhaps because of, the small ceremony prior to kick-off to honour Jupp Heynckes reaching 1,000 Bundesliga matches as a player and coach, the veteran tactician showed he still has the capacity to spring a surprise or two by naming a much-changed line-up to face Bremen. Robben, Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri, Diego Contento and Luiz Gustavo were all offered rare chances to shine, with Wednesday evening's DFB Cup quarter- ...

Bayern Munich - Hoffenheim Preview: Bavarians look to bounce back from Champions League shock Jupp Heynckes' side saw their winning start to the season ended abruptly by BATE in Europe on Tuesday but can take heart from their 7-1 thrashing of Saturday's guests in March. Bayern suffered a humilating loss to BATE Borisov in midweek, and have been further taxed by the news that Franck Ribery is likely to miss this clash, while Arjen Robben has still not recovered from the problem that forced him to miss the trip to Minsk. Accordingly, Thomas Muller will continue on the right wing, with Xherdan Shaqiri slotting in on the left, with Toni Kroos playing as a No.10. However, long-term absentees David Alaba and Mario Gomez are still working their way back to fitness after their respective pre-season foot and ankle injuries, allowing Holger Badstuber to keep his place at left-back and Mario Mandzukic to start up front, despite Claudio Pizarro featuring against Werder Bremen. Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich: Gustavo and Mandzukic strike late to preserve visitors' perfect start to new season The Bavarian giants were met with a spirited performance from the home side, but should have put the game to bed much earlier had they found the target with one of their many chances. However, just when their 100 per cent record looked ready to end, Luis Gustavo struck gold with a 20-yard drive to send them into the lead with only nine minutes remining. The points were made safe three minutes later by substitute Mario Mandzukic, who converted a simple tap-in to send Bayern to victory and into a five-point lead at the top of the table. Xherdan Shaqiri made way for Thomas Muller in the visitors' XI, while Claudio Pizarro was chosen to lead the line ahead of Mandzukic from the start. There was also interesting news for Bremen up front, as on-loan striker Nils Petersen started alone in attack against his parent club. Bayern fired an early warning shot after only six minutes. Depressed that Bayern Munich didn't tackle Werder Bremen. Horrible match by all of the bavarian players, except for Arjen Robben.
Franck Ribery has admitted that he is not the best of friends with his Bayern Munich team-mate Arjen Robben. The France international and his Dutch counterpart had to be pulled apart after an angry exchange of words at half-time during the Bavarians' Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Real Madrid in April, and the former Galatasaray winger was reportedly fined €50,000 for striking his colleague.Ribery made a point of fist-bumping Robben after netting the winner in the Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen the following weekend, but the 29-year-old has confessed that while the pair continue to have the utmost respect for one another, they are by no means close. "We are not the best friends in the world," the former Marseille man admitted during an interview with Kicker. "But we respect each other. We are completely different." Bayern went onto defeat Madrid in spite of Ribery and Robben's dressing-room bust-up, but Jupp Heynckes' men were ultimately left heartbroken after being beaten by Chel ...
Marko Marin An agreement was reached in April 2012 to sign Marko Marin from Werder Bremen. Both clubs agreed a fee and the 23-year-old midfielder agreed personal terms. Marin, a German international, will join Chelsea in the summer. Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he moved to Germany with his family at an early age and became a professional player at Borussia Monchengladbach before moving north to Bremen in the summer of 2009. He made 87 Bundesliga appearances for the club prior to agreeing to sign for Chelsea, scoring 12 goals. He also played in the 2010 German Cup Final when his side lost to Bayern Munich. Able to play as winger as well as a central player, Marin is 5ft 7in (170cm) in height and having played for Germany Under 21s, he made his debut for the senior Germany side in May 2008 prior to being part of the squad that won the European Under 21 championships in 2009. Clive Brunskill/Getty Images Chelsea have already been extremely busy this transfer window. So far the Blues have brought in Marko Marin from Bundesliga side, Werder Bremen, as well as all but securing the transfer of Eden Harzard from Lille. On top of this, it looks like Porto and Brazil striker, Hulk, will also soon be on his way to Stamford Bridge this summer. All in all, the victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final seems to have drastically heightened Chelsea's appeal to the masses around Europe. It seems implausible that a young player such as Hazard would choose to come to Chelsea, who finished sixth in the Premier League this season, ahead of the champions Man City, or local rivals and runners-up United. However, with the heroic display against the German giants, Chelsea have managed to regain the European pedigree that had been dwindling in recent years. Now it seems as though they will look to strengthen their already-healthy squad further with the possible acquisition of Everton ...

Germany have named a 27-man preliminary squad for the European Championship. Joachim Low has named a familiar-looking party which also includes injured Arsenal stopper Per Mertesacker.
