Cristiano Ronaldo Did Not Deserve The Ballon D'Or Says Barcelona Legend Johan Cruyff - Johan Cruyff believes the exclusion of key players from the Bayern Munich and German national team from the Ballon d'Or nominations is an outrage, expressing his criticism towards the award. The Netherlands legend - who won the award three times in 1971, 1973 and 1974 - says the recognition should have gone to a player who excelled individually and helped their club to win trophies; adding that a number of players from the Bayern and the World Cup winning Germany side could have, and should have, been nominated for the honours. "At the highest level, it's all about the combination of individual quality and achievements," Cruyff was quoted by Goal. "From that point of view, it's absurd that for the second year in a row a player has been given the award who did not both play excellent and win the most trophies." The former Barcelona playmaker believes Toni Kroos, who was instrumental for both club and country, was a worth ...

The three candidates for the Ballon d’Or were all picked in the team of the year, along with defenders Phillip Lahm, David Luiz, Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos, midfielders Andres Iniesta, Toni Kroos and Angel Di Maria and forward Arjen Robben. Pep Guardiola has taunted Manchester United by claiming none of his Bayern Munich players wanted to join them this summer. United made approaches for Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller, while Toni Kroos opted to join Real Madrid. Although United spent £151.3million on six players this summer, including a British record £59.7m on Angel Di Maria, Guardiola said they could not have afforded his stars - even if they had wanted to move to Old Trafford. "They don't have enough money," said Guardiola. "I saw they spent this kind of [big] money. "It's good for my friend Louis [Van Gaal]. I know all the players the clubs want, it just depends on the player. "If the player wants to stay, they stay. Manchester United wants these kind of players, but they want to stay and we are happy to be here." Guardiola also said United's absence from this season's Champions League, for the first time in 19 years, was a lesson to all big clubs of what can happen if they do not perform. "It’s a good lesson ...
Real Madrid are Champions League favourites, says Lahm The former Germany international says the club's summer outlay, which included the signing of Toni Kroos from Bayern, makes them the side to beat in Europe Sep 15, 2014 00:02:19 Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm believes that Real Madrid enter this season's Champions League as favourites after winning the competition last year. The Bundesliga champions were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by Carlo Ancelotti's side at the semi-final stage, despite having won the tournament the previous term. The 30-year-old feels that the Spanish side will be the team to beat once more but is determined to add to his one winners' medal in the European Cup before he calls it a day. "The club have strengthened an already-excellent team with a lot of money," he told Kicker. "Real are certainly the team to beat. I want to win this trophy again. Whether with the squad we have this season or in the new three years, I want a shot at the title." Bayern begin their bid to win the Cham ...
Kroos exposed: Real Madrid will suffer without midfield protection COMMENT: The German has been exposed in a number of games for club and country this season and needs the right conditions if he is to demonstrate his class. When Real Madrid paid Bayern Munich an undisclosed fee in the region of €25-30 million for the services of Toni Kroos, the transfer was almost unanimously hailed as one of the best deals of the summer. And understandably so. After all, in an inflated market which saw unproven upstarts like Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Eliaquim Mangala move for much bigger prices, Kroos represented outstanding value – regardless of the fact he had just 12 months to run on his Bayern contract. This is a player who was instrumental in Germany’s World Cup success and by the age of 24 has already won over 50 caps, as well as 12 club trophies with Bayern – including three Bundesliga crowns and the Champions League. "Congratulations, you have signed the best player from the World Cup," was the verdict ...
Toni Kroos believes there is a completely different mentality at Real Madrid than the one he was used to at Bayern Munich. The Germany international joined the Santiago Bernabeu side in a deal believed to be worth €25 million and says he is already adapting to his surroundings in Spain - despite discovering a very different approach to the one he became used to at the Allianz Arena. "The mentality here at Madrid is different than at Bayern," Kroos was quoted as saying by Sport Bild. "When training started at 10:30 at Bayern, everybody would be ready to go at 10:30. Things are a bit different here. I got used to it pretty quickly, though. Everything is a bit more relaxed and loose. "I briefly considered using a translator at Madrid, but I didn't like the idea of having someone around me all the time. I can get by using English. And Sami Khedira helped me out with some minor things in the beginning. He was really helpful for me." Kroos then went on to make it clear that he doesn't feel any extra pressure ...

ROLL OUT THE BARREL. LIVERPOOL are on red alert after it emerged that Real Madrid are ready to part ways with Xabi Alonso this summer. The Champions League holders have moved to bring in Monaco's James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos during the current transfer window, heating up competition for places in midfield. Manchester United target Angel Di Maria is set to be offloaded to French champions Paris St-Germain, whilst question marks remain over the future of Sami Khedira, who is being chased by both Arsenal and Chelsea. However, Spanish outlet El Confidencial claims that Carlo Ancelotti would rather part with Anfield favourite Alonso after the midfielder returned from Spain's abysmal World Cup campaign in poor condition. It is claimed that Alonso's fitness has shocked Real's coaching staff, and that the 32-year-old appears to be lacking the strength needed to dominate in the middle of the park. Alonso already looked set for a season on the sidelines, with Ancelotti planning to deploy Kroos alo ...

Transfer News: Toni Kroos moves to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich Germany international Toni Kroos has signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid, according to a statement from Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old played in all of his country’s matches in the World Cup in Brazil, as Germany claimed the trophy for the fourth time. Kroos won three Bundesliga titles in four seasons with Bayern, clinching the DFB-Pokal three times and being part of the side which won a historic treble in 2013. That success included the Champions League, before Bayern won the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup last season. The midfielder joins compatriot Sami Khedira in Madrid and will be presented to the media later on Thursday after undergoing a medical. "We would like to thank Toni Kroos for his time here in Munich," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We enjoyed great success here together. We would like to wish him and his family all the best in Madrid and with Real."
SPORTS UPDATE: Germany captain Philipp Lahm has retired from international football after leading his side to victory at the World Cup in Brazil. The 30-year-old Bayern Munich defender, who can also play in midfield, played 113 times for Germany. New Real Madrid signing Toni Kroos has voiced his admiration for Pep Guardiola and has stressed that the Bayern Munich coach has helped him become a better player. Kroos worked under Guardiola at Bayern during the 2013-14 campaign and was temporarily benched by the former Barcelona boss shortly after the winter break. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere made an early start to his pre-season preparations after he returned to training three days before most of his team-mates. Wilshere's return comes days after photographs of him with a cigarette in his mouth while on holiday in Las Vegas were published by the Daily Mail - and were said to have earned him a reprimand from Manager Arsene Wenger. The 22 year old posted a picture to his Instagram account which showed him ...

Real Madrid have completed the signing of the Manchester United target Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos. The World Cup winner, who starred for his country during their triumph in Brazil, has agreed a six-year deal with the European Champions. The 24-year-old, who has won the Bundesliga in each of the last two seasons, had been one of Manchester United's principal transfer targets this summer. However, United were unable to agree terms with both the player and Bayern over a deal. And that allowed Los Blancos to swoop for the midfielder, who had just one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, and who will be presented as a Real Madrid player later today at the Santiago Bernabeu. Kroos, who has 51 international caps to his name, leaves Bayern after an eight year association with Germany's biggest club, during which time he made 185 appearances for the club.
Real Madrid have announced that they have signed Germany World Cup winner Toni Kroos. The 24-year-old midfielder, who joins from Bayern Munich, was also reported to be a target of Manchester United.
Arsenal are set to stave off late interest from Chelsea in the race to sign Sami Khedira, with reports in Spain claiming that a £23m deal for the German World Cup winning midfielder is very close to completion. Mail Online report that Khedira is set to sign a four-year contract with the North London club following his exploits at the World Cup, which Germany won on Sunday. 27-year-old Khedira had to withdraw from the game just before kick off because of an injury picked up in the warm up, though his absence didn't stop Mario Gotze from netting an extra-time winner against Argentina. Khedira is set for a move away from Real Madrid because of the imminent arrival of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich and because of the fact Khedira's contract expires next summer. Talks between Khedira and Real Madrid over a new contract have broken down and the European Champions would prefer to cash in now rather than losing a player on a free transfer this time next year. Jose Mourinho brought Khedira to Madrid in the first p ...

Transfer News ROUND UP – SANCHEZ TO ARSENAL, Di Maria TO UNITED, KROOS TO CHELSEA AND OTHERS July 5, 2014 We’re only four days into the transfer window, and already a complex wed of threads is being stitched together and pulled apart, on an hourly basis it seems. As usual, much revolves around the traditional big players in the transfer market – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United, with Arsenal and Liverpool also trying to pretend they’re in the same league. The high rollers of the last few years – Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG and Monaco – seem a little more guarded so far. In Chelsea’s case, that would appear to be because they’ve already got their main targets signed, sealed and delivered. Anyway, here goes with the latest tapestry of speculation and intrigue. It appears Toni Kroos (who is allegedly leaving Bayern Munich because they won’t double his salary) has an agreement with Real Madrid. Reports suggest Chelsea want to “hijack” it, but I suspect that’s more in hope ...
Bayern Munich coach has given the green light to seel Toni Kroos - Man News
RIO DE JANEIRO -- Three thoughts from Germany's 1-0 win vs. France in the World Cup quarterfinal. 1. Low changes his mind Bastian Schweinsteiger or Sami Khedira -- there could only be one. That had been the message before and during the tournament, as Germany coach Joachim Low had to come to terms with both his regular central midfielders not being quite ready for the full exertions of a World Cup in Brazil. The job-sharing had worked reasonably well, all things considered. However, against France on Friday, Schweinsteiger and Khedira were back together in the starting lineup for the first time since October 2013 -- a 3-0 win versus Ireland in World Cup qualifying. Schweinsteiger was the deepest of Germany's central midfield trio, Toni Kroos was slightly to the left and Khedira a bit to the right. And where was the captain Philipp Lahm? The Bayern Munich man was back in his traditional right-back position. Before the game, that news was greeted with a sharp intake of air in the German section of the Marac ...

On Saturday Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that Manchester United had bid €24m for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos. They also stated that the German international was open to a move away from his current club and that a big wage offer from Manchester United was more than tempting for Kroos. The reason for the Spanish reporting was supposed interest from Barcelona and there's more in Spain on Sunday with El Confidencial covering it from a Real Madrid perspective. They've been explaining for a week or so that Carlo Ancelotti is keen on the midfielder but, just like Sport and Barcelona, they claim the biggest threat is Manchester United. El Confidencial even state that it's known at the Santiago Bernabeu that Louis Van Gaal has spoken to Kroos personally to help a move to Manchester happen. The Spanish outlet say that Bayern Munich would prefer a Kroos move to Real Madrid, who they consider to be a 'friendly' club to them. Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal for Bayern Munich star midfielder Toni Kroos for £20million. Reports suggest that United had already agreed the fee pertaining to the transfer under the reign of former manager David Moyes and his Dutch successor has given a go ahead for the transfer. Kroos, who has formerly played under Van Gaal is keen to reunite with him. The German midfielder's contract runs out once the next season ends and Bayern would not be keen to offload a prized possession on a Bosman transfer. Bayern Munich and Toni Kroos have been locked in a struggle to agree a new deal for a while with no side looking to budge. Kroos had earlier stated that a lack of Champions League football would not worry him if he was looking to leave Germany. Manchester United were offered the chance to land Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger instead of Toni Kroos.
MUST READ THIS! If there was ever any doubt that new manager Louis Van Gaal was in charge at Manchester United, all such illusions have gone now. For several months, the club has been linked with three targets -- Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho, Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Southampton's Luke Shaw -- who were seen by former boss David Moyes as the root-and-branch solutions that were needed in key areas. Yet, within just a few weeks of Van Gaal being in charge, each of these targets has slowly drifted from view. Kroos has ruled himself out of a move to Old Trafford, though one wonders how keen he truly was on a transfer in the first place. Talk of Carvalho has all but disappeared. And Shaw, following the offer of an extra year's contract to Patrice Evra, is apparently no longer being pursued with the same vigour. What does all this mean? Well, it gives us some hints as to the team that Van Gaal is trying to build. Kroos is best deployed as a No. 10, and Manchester United already have two of those in t ...

It's now very unlikely that Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos will sign for Manchester United
Manchester United have been informed they can land Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger for a knockdown fee. The Daily Mail says United boss Louis Van Gaal has dismissed Cesc Fabregas and Toni Kroos from the club's list of targets for this summer. The Dutchman has, however, been linked with Bayern Munich talisman Schweinsteiger and the word out of Munich is that Pep Guardiola would be willing to listen to offers of £10million for the 29-year-old midfielder. Schweinsteiger, whose name cropped up during David Moyes's tenure at United, is also interested in a new challenge. The old regime had concerns about his fitness and value for money, given that he earns £8m a year but Van Gaal worked with the Germany star at Bayern and knows him better than most.

Bayern Munich president Karl Hopfner says they're unlikely to up their contract offer to Toni Kroos. Kroos, 24, is a long term target of Manchester United and today it was confirmed that the two clubs had agreed a £20million deal. Hopfner was asked about Kroos' future with Bayern Munich and he told Kicker : "It was the same with Michael Ballack, and eventually we retracted our offer (to extend his contract). Kroos has a contract until 2015. "There will definitely be further talks. At some point, the player has to decide what he wants. I'll be taking a leaf out of Uli's book certainly: certain financial boundaries will not be crossed." When asked to talk about how Kroos' offer won't increase Hopfner said: "That is how things stand. No question," but when asked whether a big offer could change their stance Hopfner replied: "I don't know. Things change very quickly."
Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to make Toni Kroos their top transfer target, but has warned that the club need to bring in 'five or six' new players. The Old Trafford outfit are reported to have agreed a £20million deal for the Bayern Munich midfielder while David Moyes was still at the helm, with new boss Louis Van Gaal giving his approval for the move to go ahead. Former United and England midfielder Scholes believes that the Germany international is just one of several players Executive Vice-chairman Ed Woodward needs to land if they are to return to challenging for honours. Manchester United have received a massive boost in the form of Thomas Muller, who is willing to join the Red Devils in the summer, according to GerMan Newspaper Bild. The German forward is frustrated with his lack of opportunities at Bayern Munich and wants to follow Louis Van Gaal, who is set to be announced the new manager at United, to Old Trafford. The player wants to resume his relationship with the Dutchman, who gave him his first opportunity as a 19- year-old when Van Gaal managed the Bavarians from 2009 to 2011. New Bayern manager Pep Guardiola has used the player sparingly as a substitute and the player is looking for offers from abroad to keep his place in the starting line-up. The German is valued at a fee in the range of £35m but with United reportedly sitting on a transfer kitty of £150m, a transfer of such an order would not be an issue for the defending champions. Bayern Munich legend Steffen Effenberg has urged Toni Kroos to turn down a move to Manchester United and remain at Allianz Arena
Champions League semifinal - Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid at Allianz Arena on 30 April 2014. Match starts at 12:30 am India time. It's the clash between two of the biggest spenders in club football. Real Madrid are worth 425 millions and Bayern are worth 314 million pounds in player values. Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have been good with their respective teams but RM stands a better chance after the 1-0 lead in the first leg. Bayern were tactically naive in the first leg where RM played without Gareth Bale and CR without full fitness. Will the Bavarians get the two required goals and prevent RM from scoring that 1 away goal? Real Madrid: Iker Casillas; Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Dani Carvajal; Ángel di María, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modrić; Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale. Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; David Alaba, Dante, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm; Javi Martínez; Franck Ribéry, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben; Mario Mandžukić.
Alan Cole While welcome, the 4-0 win over Norwich in Giggs' first game as interim manager proved nothing. The struggling Canaries were poor in defence and punchless in attack. They were there for the taking, and I have no doubt that a Moyes-led side would have also beaten them comfortably. The real tests will come in the transfer market this summer, especially with no Champions League football to offer potential signings like Toni Kroos of Bayern Munich, Edinson Cavani of Paris St. Germain and Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid. That's why United have to make the right appointment this time. Even if United finish the season with two more 4-0 wins, a rookie like Giggs is not the answer no matter how big the emotional appeal. Beware that "tender trap."
Transfer News: Chelsea eye 'new Ozil', Man Utd's Kroos offer and Everton's Barkley stance CHELSEA are set to rival Atletico Madrid for Hakan Calhanoglu, who has been dubbed the 'new Mesut Ozil'. According to GerMan Newspaper Bild, Bayern Munich have been practicing defending set pieces in secret ahead of their Champions League quarter- final against Manchester United. The paper claims that Philipp Lahm will play at right-back, with Toni Kroos filling in for the suspended Bastian Schweinsteiger in midfield and Mario Gotze and Mario Mandzukic playing in attack, with the scores level at 1-1 from the first leg at Old Trafford.
Ten reasons why Man United can knock Bayern Munich; 1. Suspensions - Bayern Munich will be without influential midfield duo Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez. That does not mean United go into the game with a better midfield than their hosts, but it means the differential is smaller. Schweinsteiger is hugely experienced and bosses play from midfield while Martinez acts a shield in front of the defence. Toni Kroos is still there but the other likely replacements - Mario Gotze and Xherdan Shaqiri, are attack minded. That could give United a chance to score the precious away goal. 2. Counter attack - United effectively played the first leg as an away game, enjoying just 24 per cent of possession, yet they had four shots on target to Bayern's three. And after it all, the only stat that matters is the scoreline. It is clear United don't have the players to control this game but if they use the possession they do get to full effect they can make it count. 3. History - They may well deny it but what happe ...

Last night presented Manchester United with the opportunity to face up against a player they have been strongly linked with signing this summer in the form of Toni Kroos. Kroos had a decent game in a Bayern Munich midfield which dominated United for most of the match, he protected possession well and looked like a potentially very good investment on the part of the club. So how did he shape up against the players who started in United’s midfield; Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Danny Welbeck over on the left hand side. Passing Accuracy Kroos outperformed all of United’s midfielders with a passing accuracy percentage of 96%. The United midfielder with the highest passing accuracy was Fellaini on 75%, Carrick with 74% and Welbeck with 73%. It suggests Kroos would be just as effective, if not more so, in terms of passing against United’s current crop of midfield stars. Kroos also made more passes than any United player during the game with 92, only Philipp Lahm and ...
UEFA CHAMPIONS QUARTER FINAL PRODUCES DOUBLE DRAWS: Tuesday saw the return of the Champions League, with the first pair of quarter-finals offering mouth-watering ties between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and Barcelona and La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid. Both first legs turned out to be closer than expected, with out-of-form United holding reigning champions Bayern to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and Atleti coming away from Camp Nou with the same scoreline. United ensured they go to the Allianz Arena next week with a fighting chance even though Nemanja Vidic's second-half header was cancelled out by Bastian Schweinsteiger - who was then sent off late in the game - on 66 minutes. United would happily have taken a draw after spending much of the first half chasing shadows as Bayern dominated possession with Toni Kroos orchestrating matters in midfield. The Germans enjoyed almost 80 per cent of the ball in the opening 45 minutes and came closest to scoring when Arjen Robben was denied by a superb one-h ...

Bayern clinch title with seven games to spare Bayern Munich won their 24 Bundesliga title last night following a 3-1 win at Hertha Berlin. The Bavarian giants have been near unstoppable under Pep Guardiola this season and clinch the title with a massive seven games to spare. Toni Kroos scored the opener after just six minutes, before Mario Gotza made it 2-0 with a clever header. Adrian Ramos netted a penalty for Hertha after a foul by Rafinha, but Bayern made sure of the win – and title when Franck Ribery scored late on. Bayern are also still on course to finish the season unbeaten.
Bayern Munich sealed their 24th German title in stylish fashion with a comfortable 3-1 win at Hertha Berlin on Tuesday. The Bavarian giants became the first Bundesliga club to win the title in March, defending their title with a record seven matches to spare thanks to goals from Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Franck Ribery. Kroos and Gotze struck within the first 15 minutes, setting the tone in a match that Bayern controlled, and although Adrian Ramos scored a second-half penalty for Hertha, Ribery wrapped up his side's win with a delightful chip from a tight angle 11 minutes from time. Bayern now boast a 25-point lead over nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund, who were held to a goalless draw by third-placed Schalke. Having won the league by 25 points under Jupp Heynckes last term, the champions will now aim to triumph by an even greater margin and their evolution under Pep Guardiola was evident in the German capital. BERLIN (AP) -- Bayern Munich defeated Hertha Berlin 3-1 to become the earliest Bundesliga champion in 51 years of the league on Tuesday, when the defending champion claimed its 24th German title. Toni Kroos scored in the sixth minute and Mario Goetze added a rare header in the 14th. Adrian Ramos pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 66th, but Bayern substitute Franck Ribery settled the issue in the 79th. The result ensures Pep Guardiola's side wraps up the title with seven games to spare in the Spaniard's first season as coach, beating the mark set in last year's record-breaking campaign by one game. It was also Bayern's 19th consecutive win, its 10th consecutive victory away from home, and it stretched its unbeaten run to 52 games. All are Bundesliga records. Second-place Borussia Dortmund failed to overcome Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann and had to settle for a 0-0 draw in the Ruhr derby despite dominating. This time last year, on a steamy night inside the Allianz Arena, the great and the good in this Bayern Munich team wobbled in a way we have never seen before. Manuel Neuer looked at his captain Philipp Lahm to ask what could be done. Lahm looked at Arjen Robben. Robben looked at Toni Kroos. Kroos looked at Thomas Muller. Blank faces all round. Only Arsenal, with dramatic strikes from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny, had the answers in a powerful Champions League performance. Instead it ended for Arsenal in a way that it always seems to end for them these days - glorious failure. Bayern, under coach Jupp Heynckes, squeaked through and went on to win the trophy. This evening, when Arsenal step into this giant hot- air balloon of a stadium on the outskirts of Munich, they will need the same again and more following a 2-0 first-leg defeat at the Emirates if they are to topple Pep Guardiola's team.
