Bundesliga Bayern not interested in Luiz, no Gomez sale yet Bayern Munich sports director Matthias Sammer has said the club have no interest in signing Chelsea's David Luiz and denied any deal had been reached to sell Mario Gomez to Fiorentina. Newspaper speculation had linked Chelsea defender Luiz with a big money move to Bayern as Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan of the Brazilian. However, when asked if Luiz was a player the club was interested in, he simply said "No" and refused to expand on his answer. In regards to Gomez, Fiorentina have already declared their interest in the striker who has also been linked with Napoli and clubs in the Premier League. Sky Sports Italia had reported that a fee of around €18m had been agreed between the clubs but Sammer said the club "had not yet received a bid which they are satisfied with" for Gomez and added that the striker is expected to travel to Bayern's pre-season training camp in Trentino.
CHELSEA NEWS! Only five blues stars are certain starters for the coming season under Jose Mourinho -Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, and Oscar. Spainish wizard, Juan Mata and Brazil defender, David Luiz are not among the five. And Fernando Torres (who is wanted at the Emirate) could also be waving farewell to the Premier League this summer. Mourinho is thought to prefer Oscar in the No.10 role supporting a main striker, believing the Brazilian poses more attacking threat than Mata. This means Mourinho wil try to bring in six players before the transfer window closes -knowing a fee within the region of £35m from Barca for David Luiz could help fund new recruits. Brazilian star Hulk of Zenit St Petersburg, Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich and AC Milan hitman El Shaarawy are all on Mourinho's wishlist -along with Manchester City's Edin Dzeko.

Benitez to beat Chelsea to signing of £30 million striker - report Chelsea had been rumoured to be in for the signing of Mario Gomez but it appears former boss Rafa Benitez will be acquiring his services instead. When Jose Mourinho arrives at Chelsea, one of his biggest priorities will be to sign a game-changing striker. And that means a prolific hitman capable of scoring 30 goals a season and leading the attack. One of the names on the club's list of possible buys is Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez, a recent treble winner with the German giants. Injury has restricted him to 'only' 19 goals this season, but in 2011/12 he struck a phenomenal 41 goals for his club. He has fallen behind Mario Mandzukic this season, and with Robert Lewandowski rumoured to be heading to the Allianz Arena, it would appear that Gomez' days at the club are numbered. This has been confirmed by German newspaper Bild who are reporting this evening that the decision has been made that he will leave the club. And his likely destination i ...
Pep Guardiola surely faces the most thankless task in world football after Bayern Munich clinched a historic treble on Saturday, adding the German Cup to the Champions League and Bundesliga crowns. The Spaniard, who was named as Bayern's next coach back in January, will take over a team that has conquered Europe and its domestic rivals, with the 3-2 win over Stuttgart giving the departing Jupp Heynckes a perfect sendoff. The 68-year-old is widely expected to retire, though he has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid -- where he won the Champions League in 1998 -- after guiding the Bavarians to 45 wins from 53 matches this season. Stuttgart never looked like inflicting Bayern's fourth defeat of the campaign after going 3-0 down after an hour, with Thomas Muller netting a first-half penalty and striker Mario Gomez scoring twice against his former club in what could prove to be his final game for Bayern. Bayern sink Stuttgart to claim Cup, treble. Bayern Munich completed a historic treble by defeating Stuttgart 3-2 to add the DFB-Pokal trophy to the UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga titles they have already won this season. Thomas Muller fired Bayern in front from the penalty spot and two goals from Mario Gomez gave Jupp Heynckes' side a commanding lead. A brace from Martin Harnik made the game interesting, although Stuttgart could not find an equaliser as Bayern became the first German side to win three major trophies in a single season. Only three minutes were on the clock when Arjen Robben was put through left of goal by Javi Martinez and his cross was deflected just wide of the far post. Stuttgart were not going to be lambs to the slaughter, though, and they showed that with their own spirited attacking football which culminated in Antonio Rudiger's cross being volleyed just inches wide of the far post by Alexandru Maxim with Manuel Neuer beaten. Neuer was in the thick of the action midway through ...
Bayern Munich became the first German club to win the treble by beating Stuttgart 3-2 in a dramatic German Cup final. Bayern appeared to be cruising when a harsh penalty, converted by Thomas Mueller, and two Mario Gomez goals put them 3-0 ahead inside 61 minutes. Stuttgart, hammered 6-1 by the Bavarians in the Bundesliga, then gave them a real scare as Martin Harnik pulled two goals back. Bayern hung on to complete a memorable season and give departing coach Jupp Heynckes the best possible send-off as he ended his third stint in charge to make way for Former Barcelona supremo Pep Guardiola. They became the seventh team to win their league, cup and European Cup in the same season, following Inter Milan (2010), Barcelona (2009), Manchester United (1999), PSV Eindhoven (1988), Ajax Amsterdam (1972) and Celtic (1967). Just as in last week's 2-1 Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund, Manuel Neuer prevented Bayern falling behind with some outstanding goalkeeping. Stuttgart nearly took an early lead ...
Bayern Munich 3-2 Stuttgart: Gomez at the double as Bavarians survive Schwaben fightback to complete treble Bayern Munich wrapped up the first treble in German football with a 3-2 DFB-Pokal final victory over southern rivals Stuttgart. Jupp Heynckes' men, but a Thomas Muller penalty and Mario Gomez's double ensured that the Bavarians made history in the 68-year-old's final game in charge of the club. Martin Harnik struck twice late on to ensure a nervy finish but the European champions held on. The match started at break-neck pace and, unsurprisingly, it was Bayern who crafted the first chance, with Arjen Robben swapping passes with Franck Ribery and bearing down on Sven Ulreich, who was able to palm the Dutchman's cross-shot around the post. Gradually, though, Stuttgart were able to get a foothold in the game and, were it not for some wasteful finishing, they could well have gone ahead. Their first sight of goal came just before the 10-minute mark, when Ibrahima Traore peeled off his marker and sent a gr ...

Champions League: Borussia Dortmund - Bayern Munich, Mario Mandzukic Arjen Robben buried the demons of finals past with a last-gasp goal to give Bayern Munich the 2012-13 Champions League title with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley on Saturday. Dortmund were the superior side during a captivating yet goalless first half, forcing Manuel Neuer into a succession of saves - though opposite number Roman Weidenfeller was also called into action more than once. With an hour gone, Mario Mandzukic put the Bavarians ahead from close range, but a clumsy foul by Dante on Marco Reus allowed Ilkay Gundogan to level the scores from the penalty spot eight minutes later. But with one minute of normal time remaining, Robben stole in to squeeze the ballover the line, and ensure that Bayern took home the trophy that eluded them in 2010 and 2012. Nothing Shall Be Left Untouched. Borussia Dortmund ended Bayern Munich's 14-match winning run in the Bundesliga as the warm-up for the Champions League final finished in a fiery 1-1 draw. Bayern had five players booked and full-back Rafinha sent off, while Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp was caught up in a heated exchange with visiting sporting director Matthias Sammer. With Bayern already having won the league title and Dortmund guaranteed a Champions League place next season, a low-key encounter had been expected as both teams prepare for the Champions League final on 25 May. Both teams rested key players for the Wembley showdown - Dortmund, without the injured Mario Gotze, rested the likes of Mats Hummels and Lukasz Piszczek, and Marco Reus only appeared as a late substitute. Chelsea face competition from Manchester City and Monaco for Falcao, while City are thought to have opened talks with Napoli over Cavani. Chelsea Look to Reshape Attack With £71m Pair Bid: Report by The Newshound March 9th, 2013 Stamford Bridge side keen on Bundesliga pair. Chelsea are looking to re-shape their attack with the West London side said to be interested in two Bundesliga talents. The Daily Express reports on the Stamford Bridge side’s interest in Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus, who is now on Chelsea’s radar after a very successful first term with the Westfalenstadion side. 23 year old German International Reus was brought in by Jurgen Klopp to replace Shinji Kagawa and the former Borussia Monchengladbach has been a constant menace. The adaptable attacker has racked up 14 goals and eight assists thus far this term but with his side likely to relinquish their Bundesliga crown a move to Chelsea may just tempt Reus. LOAN WATCH: Heurelho Gomes faced the mighty Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Sunday. The goalkeeper currently on loan at Hoffenheim actually captained the team in a 1-0 loss against the runaway leaders. Bayern didn't turn on the style that impressed so much in the Champions League at the Emirates recently, but they still stretched their lead to 17 points from Borussia Dortmund with the only goal of the game from Mario Gomez in the 38th minute. Staying abroad, Bongani Khumalo played 67 minutes as PAOK beat Panionios 4-2 to stay third in the Greek Super League. Yago Falque played 83 minutes as Almeria beat Hercules de Alicante 2-0 in the Segunda Division of La Liga while Souleymane Coulibaly was an unused substitute as Grosseto caused a shock by beating leaders Sassuolo 2-0 in Italy's Serie B. Jupp Heynckes praised the hard work and commitment of his players after Bayern Munich battled to a 1-0 win at Hoffenheim on Sunday. A lone first-half strike from Mario Gomez was enough to earn the Bundesliga leaders all three points against a spirited home side, and Heynckes was thrilled to secure the win despite his side being far from their brilliant best. "The game today was very difficult," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website. Click link to read full story...

Bayern Munich attacker Arjen Robben was left with a bittersweet feeling after his side trounced Werder Bremen by a 6-1 scoreline on Saturday. Mario Gomez proved crucial with his two goals as Javi Martinez and the Dutch winger himself got in on the act as well, but the Netherlands international claimed the goal conceded to their 10-man visitors was unnecessary. "After going 4-0 up we weren't as focused and we eased off by a couple of percent," the 29-year-old lamented. "You can always let in a goal in those circumstances, but it's a shame, especially for Manuel Neuer, who obviously wants to keep clean sheets. "A score of 6-1 sounds easy, but it's obviously not if you come into a game like this without match practice. There were six new players on the field, so huge credit to all of them. "It was important to win again today and maintain our rhythm." The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Diego Contento and Jerome Boateng found their way into die Roten's line-up, as Jupp Heynckes opted to rotate his squad after the ...
Bayern Munich rested half a dozen stars but still romped to a 6-1 win at home to 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday to go 18 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes celebrated his 1000th Bundesliga game as a player and coach by making six changes from the team which won 3-1 at Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday. But they still extended their unbeaten run to 20 matches since their last defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of October. Amongst the key changes, Germany striker Mario Gomez, who scored twice, came in for Mario Mandzukic, Dutch wing Arjen Robben, who opened the scoring, started for Thomas Mueller while Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri took Toni Kroos' place.

Bayern next play Borrusia Dortmund in the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) on Wednesday
LONDON (Reuters) - Long-serving Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger can do very little to salvage even pride from what looks like being another trophyless season after Tuesday's 3-1 Champions League home defeat by Bayern Munich. The last-16 first-leg loss exposed the lack of strength in depth which has contributed to the Londoners going out of both domestic cup competitions, lying fifth in the Premier League and looking poised to bow out of Europe. Bundesliga leaders Bayern had the luxury of bringing on Dutch World Cup runner-up Arjen Robben and prolific Germany striker Mario Gomez in the second half but a glance at Arsenal's bench showed no such riches and Wenger's hands are largely tied. The Frenchman, at Arsenal since 1996, failed to bring in attacking quality in the January transfer window and the club look doomed to an eighth season without a trophy, leading fans to question whether they still have the right man in charge. The indefatigable Jack Wilshere is carrying the team almost alone but the midfielder ...

Goalcom: Heynckes relieved after Bayern Munich victory - The 47-year-old coach had warned his team they would be in for a tough afternoon but goals from Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez secured the three points
Bayern Munich ran out 2-0 winners, in an efficient performance, against basement side Augsburg, in the Bavaria derby. Goals from Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez wrapped up the win, which sees Jupp Heynckes' side stretch their lead to nine points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen who play Hannover on Sunday. The home side caused early problems and inside the first five minutes, Dante was forced into making a goal-saving intervention, stopping Sascha Molders from tapping home a near post cross. Knowledge Musona then tested Manuel Neuer minutes later, but his well-struck effort was collected impressively by the German keeper. After 24 minutes Bayern sprang into life, and Mario Mandzukic had Augsburg's Mohamed Amsif scrambling to his right, as the Croatian's scuffed strike trickled past the post. Seconds later, Franck Ribery whipped in a front post cross, but despite good movement from Mandzukic, the lone striker directed his effort straight at the opposition keeper. In spite of their early resilience, Gi ...
SHAQIRI: "PROBABLY MY FIRST" After a hassle-free day at the office against BATE Borisov, UEFA Champions League Group F winners FC Bayern Munich can, in theory, look forward to a much more favourable match-up in the next round. Although a solid all-round team display, it was pint-sized winger Xherdan Shaqiri who really caught the eye. bundesliga.com caught up with the Swiss maestro after the game to get his thoughts on a rare headed goal, his burgeoning partnership with Mario Gomez and Saturday's trip to FC Augsburg.
UCL:- Jupp Heynckes believes Bayern Munich were full value for their 4-1 win over BATE Borisov on Wednesday night. Despite going down to 10 men early in the second-half, the Germans prevailed thanks to strikes from Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Xherdan Shaqiri and David Alaba, sealing both a commanding success and top spot in Group E. "I'm obviously very satisfied because the priority was to win and make sure of first place [in our group]," the coach told reporters. "The team were very determined and very alert. We conceded almost nothing in defence. Overall, it was an authoritative display. "All credit to my team because the Champions League is such a difficult competition - the runners-up are all very strong. That means it’s good we’re away from home in the first-leg." Gomez broke Bayern's duck at the Allianz Arena to further his tally to two goals since his comeback from injury five matches ago, and he feels he is regaining his sharpness in the penalty box. "I knew that I would struggle a bit after s ...

I think its a massive boost 4 Bayern Munich as Mario Gomez is xpected 2 b fit wen Bayern tackles Nuremberg
Had one of the best comebacks in FIFA 13. I was playing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League Group Stage, and I knew this was going to be a hard game. I was holding them off for most of the first half but Mario Gomez scores in the 38th minute. Okay, down by one goal, not bad, and that's when Rafinha equalized two mins later. Second half came, and I was play great defense, then came a break-away which Nathan Redmond took the shot and scored. Okay, now I'm winning 2-1, but Frank Ribéry gets pass my defense and equalizes to make it 2–2. Several mins passed and Deulofeu scores, and I thought I had the game right there, but then Toni Kroos equalizes a minute later. 3 mins left in the game and I gave away a silly penalty, but luckily I saved that. Now with time running out, I knew I was running out of time to win this game. I managed to get a corner kick, which I crossed it to Mats Hummels, who then heads the ball into the goal, and won me the game at 4-3. My heart was racing before I took that corn ...

Bayern Munich - Hoffenheim Preview: Bavarians look to bounce back from Champions League shock Jupp Heynckes' side saw their winning start to the season ended abruptly by BATE in Europe on Tuesday but can take heart from their 7-1 thrashing of Saturday's guests in March. Bayern suffered a humilating loss to BATE Borisov in midweek, and have been further taxed by the news that Franck Ribery is likely to miss this clash, while Arjen Robben has still not recovered from the problem that forced him to miss the trip to Minsk. Accordingly, Thomas Muller will continue on the right wing, with Xherdan Shaqiri slotting in on the left, with Toni Kroos playing as a No.10. However, long-term absentees David Alaba and Mario Gomez are still working their way back to fitness after their respective pre-season foot and ankle injuries, allowing Holger Badstuber to keep his place at left-back and Mario Mandzukic to start up front, despite Claudio Pizarro featuring against Werder Bremen. Injuries and suspension, meanwhile, have ...

A brilliant performance from Mario Balotelli has driven Italy into the Euro 2012 final, after a 2-1 win over Germany at the National Stadium on Thursday. The Manchester City forward has hit the headlines for all the right reasons, opening the scoring with a powerful header before smashing home an emphatic second to clinch a date with Spain at the Olympic Stadium on July 1. It was a deserved victory for Italy, which could have added further goals in the second half had it taken one of the numerous chances afforded to it by Germany's rushes forward to find a way back into the match. Mesut Ozil ensured a nervy finish to the encounter with a penalty in second-half stoppage time, but there was to be no miracle for Germany, which bowed out at the semifinal stage for the second major tournament in a row. Netherlands' hopes of advancing to the Euro 2012 quarterfinals are hanging by a thread after a 2-1 loss to Germany at Metalist Stadium on Wednesday. A laboring Dutch outfit fell two goals behind by halftime thanks to a pair of lethal finishes from Mario Gomez, who took his tournament tally up to three, with both goals set up by Bayern Munich teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger. Bert Van Marwijk's men were able to improve after the break though, and pulled one back through a breathtaking strike from Robin Van Persie on 73 minutes. But despite a late surge from the Oranje, Joachim Low's men were able to hang on and take their place at the top of Group B with six points leaving them on the verge of qualification for the last eight. Even if the Dutch beat Portugal in their final group game on Sunday, their fate is out of their hands, as qualification depends on both Germany defeating Denmark and a favorable goal-difference. Van Persie had the first opportunity of the match after six minutes, running onto Mark van ...

Anybody else thonk that Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich looks like George Mcfly
My opinion was merged before and after the game for Champions League final The Bayern Munich is the Favorite to win the title for several reasons and the first is that the game is in the Allianz Arena but also I think that the Chelsea is not easy to beat they achieved with David De Matthew to become strong Defensive team regardless of the attractiveness of the game coach DDM in every game he get what he wants. If we review the game of German cup final the Bayern against Burosia Dortmend and weaknesses in the Baiern team, Defensively in the center back and offensively in Slow of attack preparation also the ticktics they used was complicated. They improved a little in the final but not very much and were unable to create chances for two unlucky and inefficient attackers Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were repeated in every attack same complicated methodology to create chances for attackers. Holger Badstuber, David Alaba and Luiz Gustavo were big loss. Footbal ...

Chelsea All The Way:Not In My Wildest Imagination. Against the predictions of most bookmakers and soccer pundits,Chelsea defied all odds and won the European diadem of football glory right in the backyard of fellow title contender.,Bayern Munich.. Though it was not the best of finals because the Bavarians played the best of football, made good use of spatial distribution and created a horde of chances while Chelsea lazied away showing some occasinal show of accidental brilliance..But unfortunately,Mario Gomez, one of the lethal strikers in Europe, was a shadow of himself..He could not just click..Ditto Arjen Robben who has a record of losing major battles in spite of his prodigious talent and high work rate..Perhaps,he may need to see TB Joshua, the man in the Synagogue.. At any rate,Chelsea and her numerous fans across the globe, from the sane to the deranged, from the gentle to the roughnecks, from the valid to invalid, passive and active fools alike, they have the god of soccer to thank for giving them the much ...
This year in sports for me has been horrible. Yesterday's fixture between Bayern Munich and Chelsea was a clear example of where the better team loses. I've said it for a long time that Mario Gomez is very inconsistent. I understood why they took a striker off to put on another defender, but why was Muller sacrificed. Gomez should have been subbed off. Also, Robben had the worst game I've ever seen him play. He was horrible the whole match, but that weak penalty kick summed it up!
Chelsea avenged penalty heartbreak in Moscow with a shootout victory of their own to win an exhiliarating Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Didier Drogba was the man to exorcise the demons of that sodden night in Russia, forcing extra-time with an 88th-minute header that made it 1-1 before striking the decisive spot-kick to sate owner Roman Abramovich's greatest craving. Roberto Di Matteo - whose future remains inconceivably unclear - must have felt the pull of destiny as he watched Drogba drag his side back from the brink and then old boy Arjen Robben miss an extra-time penalty. Chelsea unashamedly followed their Barcelona blueprint but Bayern, who seemed set for an historic win at their own ground when Thomas Muller broke the deadlock on 83, only had their own profligacy to blame. The Blues had needed 37 minutes to fashion a real chance while Mario Gomez miscued and miscontrolled at the other end, as Robben drove high, wide and against a post. The interval came and went, Bayern reward still ...
Chelsea stunned Bayern Munich in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the Allianz Arena to win the Champions League for the first time. Thomas Mueller's late header put Bayern on the brink of victory on home territory but Didier Drogba levelled things up with a bullet header at the death before coolly converting the decisive spot-kick. The tournament which gave Chelsea their greatest agony when they lost on penalties to Manchester United four years ago in Moscow has now delivered the greatest glory in their 107-year history. Juan Mata missed Chelsea's first penalty but David Luiz, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole were all successful. Philipp Lahm, Mario Gomez and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer were all on target for Bayern. The momentum shifted decisively when Cech denied Ivica Olic and Bastian Schweinsteiger hit the post to leave Chelsea on the brink and present Drogba with his moment of destiny.
I think Emile Heskey could score 40 goals in this Bayern Munich team judging by Mario Gomez's performance tonight...
Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea (aet, 3-4 on penalties): Blues crowned kings of Europe for first time after thrilling shoot-out in Bavaria Two late goals in regulation and a missed Robben penalty in extra time sent the final to penalties, where Didier Drogba struck the decisive kick from 12 yards out By Keeghann Sinanan May 19, 2012 10:30:00 PM Chelsea have won the 2011-12 Champions League after a gripping 4-3 win over Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena. Bayern set up camp in the Chelsea half for the majority of the match, but were extremely wasteful in front of goal, passing up a number of opportunities that allowed Roberto Di Matteo's men to stay in the contest. Thomas Muller looked to have finally broken their resistance when he scored in the 83rd minute, but Didier Drogba brought the Blues back from the dead with a powerful header two minutes from the end to send the final into extra time. Arjen Robben saw a soft penalty saved by Petr Cech in the 95th minute, but there was no winner in the addi ...
Chelsea won the Champions League final on German soil as they beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 in normal time. Bayern had much the better of the game, missed numerous chances in the first-half and were made to wait until the 83rd minute for the opener when Thomas Muller appeared at the back post to head past Petr Cech. Despite a lack of ambition until then, Chelsea were not done and equalised in a thrilling finale when Didier Drogba headed home from the Blues' first corner of the game with two minutes left to go. Drogba almost turned from hero to villain as he tripped Franck Ribery in the box in the first period of extra-time but Cech saved Arjen Robben's penalty low down to his left. The rest of the game yielded no goals and it was left to penalties to decide the winner. It looked like Chelsea would lose the shootout as Juan Mata missed, but Ivica Olic - with his last kick as a Bayern Munich player - and Bastian Schweinsteiger missed and Drogba stroked home for glory. Marko Marin has backed his new side Chelsea to beat Bayern Munich in Saturday's Champions League final. - Neuer cautious but confident Marin, 23, is to join Chelsea from Werder Bremen this summer and will be a keen observer when the Blues meet Bayern at the Allianz Arena this weekend. The winger feels Chelsea's "better players'' will expose Bayern's defence after he watched Borussia Dortmund thrash the Bavarians 5-2 in last week's DFB-Pokal final. Asked if their defence was weak, he told BBC Sport: "Yes. I watched the German Cup final. They made big errors. Chelsea have better players and will do well if they play offensively. "I think (Chelsea) will win at the weekend. Bayern did a very good job against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, but they did not do well in the Cup final." But Marin was also wary of the attacking threat of Bayern. "I think the strongest Bayern player is Franck Ribery because of his dribbling and because he's a goal threat,'' he said. "There's also Mario Gomez. He's s ...
19:45 – Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is spotted in the stands draped head-to-toe in Bayern Munich apparel, including replica shirt, branded hat and scarf, muttering: "Triffic, always liked 'im", as each home player's name is read out over the public address. 19:50 – By the time that the game kicks off, ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley has already mentioned Manchester United's famous 1999 final victory over Bayern 28 times. 20.00 – John Terry begins the match sitting quietly to one side while Roberto Di Matteo occupies his usual role on the touchline overseeing the team. As the first half progresses, however, the two slowly swap positions until the Blues captain is barking orders gleefully and the Italian is unobtrusive and obsolete on the bench. 20:08 – A cursor is visible above the head of David Luiz as the Brazilian's positional error allows Mario Gomez through to make it 1-0 to Bayern. In the Sky studio, someone wrestles a video-game controller out of co-commentator Gary Neville's hand. 20:2 ...

Euro 2012: Top 5 Goal Scorers Who'll Dominate the Tournament Euro 2012 is barely a month away, and with excitement mounting, we count down five players who’ll bring a considerable goal threat to the tournament in Poland and Ukraine. We start with a Frenchman who has been banging them in for Real Madrid, Karim Benzema. Up next is his Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who’ll be lining up for Portugal in the so-called “group of death” against Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. Another to watch in that group is Germany’s Mario Gomez, who has helped Bayern Munich to the Champions League final this season. We finish with two red-hot Dutchmen—Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Robin Van Persie. The big question is, who’ll be more dangerous this summer? Be sure to sound off and let us know what you think in the comments below.
Mertesacker and Podolski named in Germany’s provisional squad for the Euros Posted on May 08, 2012 by admin The Germany manager Joachim Löw has named the 27 players in his provisional squad to play in the Euro 2012 tournament this summer, and although there is little surprise that Arsenal’s newest player Lukas Podolski is included in the squad. But the inclusion of Per Mertesacker is a little more surprising seeing that the big defender hasn’t made an appearance for Arsenal since February, but it would seem that Low is going to give him a chance to prove his fitness. There will be four players left out of the final 23-man squad so it will cost Low nothing if he doesn’t prove up to scratch. The squad will be meeting up this weekend at a training camp in Sardinia, but Manuel Neuer, Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm, Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Gomez won’t be joining them until a week later as they all play for Bayern Munich and need to be available fo ...

Lionel Messi returned to goal-scoring form on Sunday, grabbing a brace in Barcelona's 7-0 win against Rayo Vallecano to go level with Cristiano Ronaldo on 43 league goals this season as the duo looks set for a straight battle to claim the European Golden Shoe. The Portuguese superstar also got on the scoresheet at the weekend when he bagged the opening goal in Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. Trailing 30 points behind Ronaldo and Messi is Robin Van Persie, who neared the magical 30-goal mark after he scored the equaliser in Arsenal's 1-1 draw away to Stoke on Saturday. Meanwhile in the Bundesliga, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar registered two in Schalke's 4-0 home win against Hertha Berlin to move a goal clear of domestic rival Mario Gomez, who scored just once in Bayern Munich's 2-0 triumph over Stuttgart. Wayne Rooney has the opportunity to leapfrog the pair of them when his Manchester United side take on local rivals Manchester City on Monday. In Serie A, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued h ...

Bayern Munich will recall Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez to the starting line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid, after the trio were rested on the bench for the weekend draw with Mainz.
Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque believes that Real Madrid can overturn a one-goal deficit in their Champions League semifinal tie against Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga club currently holds a 2-1 advantage thanks to goalsfrom Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez at the AllianzArena on Tuesday. Del Bosque believes that Madrid did not deserve to lose the match and expects Jose Mourinho 's men to bounce back in thereturn leg next week. "Matches between historic clubs can always go against your predictions," he told Kicker . "It was a great match, but it would have been fairer if it had ended in a draw. Mesut Ozil 's goal leaves Madrid with a lot of chances, because they have incredible attacking potential." "Scoring two or three goals at home is something that Madrid normally do." A goalless draw will be enough for Bayern to progress to the final, but Del Bosque does not think that the Germans will playa defensive game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
