According to Deloitte’s annual revenue list, La Liga table-toppers Real Madrid are No.1 for the 10th straight year. Manchester United climbed back to the second spot while Fc Barcelona are no long among the top three richest clubs in the world. The list indicates that Barcelona have fallen behind clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester United in terms of revenue. The Catalans have recorded revenue of only 2 million this year. Incidently, this is the smallest gain amongst the top 10 clubs. Commercial revenue has also fallen by 2%, despite the acquisition of high profile striker, Neymar. The slump has coincided with turmoil within the club, which has seen them adhere to a transfer ban till January 2016. Austin Houlihan, Senior Manager at Deloitte Sports told Goal.com that the drop was relative to their recent lack of success. He said, “Barcelona is an interesting one insomuch as their revenue growth, when comparing 2013-14 to the previous year, isn’t as great as some of the other clubs around them ...
Guardiola: Torres perfect for Atletico The coach lauded Diego Simeone's decision to bring the former club captain back to the Vicente Calderon and believes they pose a threat to Bayern's Champions League chances By Miles Chambers Jan 16, 2015 23:36:00 Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola believes that Atletico Madrid have hit the jackpot by bringing Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon. Torres left La Liga for Liverpool in 2007, one year before Guardiola famously took the reins at Camp Nou, and returned earlier this month on loan from AC Milan having flopped at San Siro and Chelsea before that. Football pundits and fans were split over whether Torres would burden another club with his lack of goals, but he stunned arch-rivals Real Madrid on Thursday by scoring a double to knock the holders out of the Copa del Rey at the last-16 stage. Guardiola, who now coaches Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, believes that the Spain international is perfectly suited to life under Diego Simeone's wing in Madrid. ...
Once more on Monday night, they were crowned as the best two players in football - despite the World Cup providing the greatest advertisement to the modern game. It also served as an example as to why both still have some way to go to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Ronaldo – albeit carrying an injury – was a shadow of himself in Brazil, while Messi started superbly but saw his form fall away when Argentina needed it most in the latter stages. The likes of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Philipp Lahm had fantastic personal tournaments, as well as great calendar years with Bayern Munich, and also delivered the silverware in the greatest competition of them all. But that mattered not come Ballon d’Or time. When did the World Cup become so meaningless in the minds of the football masses? How did that pulsating month in Brazil come to be so quickly forgotten amidst a sea of La Liga hat-tricks? England coach Roy Hodgson was widely lambasted on social media for selecting Javier Mascherano as his number o ...
INTO THE CHRISTMAS BREAK... D I D. Y O U. K N O W? * Real Madrid are going into the Christmas break with one-point lead, & a game in hand, at the top of La Liga. * A Spanish record run of 22 successive wins. Two trophies already in the bag (European Super Cup and Club World Cup). * Barcelona have bagged 41 goals in 16 matches - at an average of almost three per game. * Ronaldo has scored only two fewer La Liga goals than Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar combined this season. * Real Madrid had a100% record in the Champions League group stage. * Cristiano Ronaldo have scored 25 league goals in 14 matches this season. * The key to Madrid's excellent start is Carlo Ancelotti managing to do something that neither of his Bernabeu predecessors Jose Mourinho or Manuel Pellegrini could do. That's knitting together a dressing room packed with the world's most expensive players and, possibly, the world's most inflated egos. * Bayern Munich have taken 45 points from their 17 matches (a Bundesliga record), and only con ...

Aston Villa face a battle to keep defender Aly Cissokho, 27, with Spurs and Napoli showing interest in the Frenchman. Crystal Palace have made a £2.5m bid for Lille left-back Pape Souare, 24, but the French side will not let him go for less than £3m. Arsenal have been handed a fillip in their pursuit of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, 21, after his father acknowledged that he will only leave France for the Gunners. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, 26, but Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain are also interested. Real Madrid's Ronaldo and Barcelona's Messi have both been named on the three-man shortlist for the 2015 edition of the prize along with Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Current holder Ronaldo and Messi have already won the award six times between them. Portugal international Ronaldo, 29, scooped the award for the second time last year and is again considered the favourite having scored 50 goals in 46 appearances for club and country this year. He also helped Real win the Champions League, Copa del Rey and Uefa Super Cup. Four-time winner Messi, 27, who recently broke the overall goalscoring record in La Liga, helped Argentina to the World Cup final and won the Golden Ball as player of the tournament in Brazil. Neuer, 28, was one of the stars of Germany's World Cup success, winning the Golden Glove as the tournament's best keeper. He added two further medals to his collection as Bayern won a domestic double last season. Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has made the final three ...
GBAM!!! Messi’s record will last 600 years’ Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on former player Lionel Messi after his heroic feat last weekend, insisting the forward’s record will stand for “600 years”. The Barcelona ace’s hat-trick against Sevilla took him to 253 La Liga goals in 289 matches, breaking Telmo Zarra’s record of 251 as he became the new highest goal- scorer in the Spanish League. Guardiola, under whom Messi thrived in the Spanish coach’s four-year tenure at the Camp Nou, was full of praise for his former starlet, and believes his record will stand for years to come. "He is only 27 years old and he has already beaten the record,” said the Bayern boss. “His record will not last for 60 years, but 600 years." Speculation of unrest with the Catalans has fuelled reports of a possible move away from Spain, yet Guardiola said he hopes the new record-holder will finish his career at the club he joined when he was just 13 years old. "I hope that Messi will end his ...

Champions League - Real Madrid v Basel preview: Madrid seek to get back on track Team news, match facts and manager quotes for the Champions League game between Real Madrid and Basel at the Bernabeu. PREAMBLE Just as the Cup's first edition in 1956 was won by Real Madrid, so the Spanish aristocrats begin tournament number 60 as holders and warm favourites, even after their underwhelming start to the La Liga campaign. Even without AC Milan and Manchester United, 10-times winners between them, in this year's draw, there is predictability to what will eventuate. It is no coincidence that the four favourites this season - Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea - are also the last four heavyweight winners of the trophy. The last genuine surprise winners? Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2004, 18 of the last 19 winners having come from one of the continent's Big Four leagues - La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League and Serie A. The Champions League is not big on fairytales. Here is another predictable predictio ...

Joining Manchester United from the Premier League are Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. German side Bayern Munich and Italy’s AC Milan also feature. Inside Spanish Football Inside Spanish Football – La Liga news 24/7, plus Segunda, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Europa League & the Spain national team Iñigo Martínez – Real Madrid’s ‘Plan B’? Posted by Ameen Rabbani Real Madrid have sounded out Real Sociedad centre-back Inigo Martinez as the first option to replace Raphael Varane, should the Frenchman leave the club in this summer. It has been reported that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the 21-year-old and should a deal go ahead, then Real will turn their attention to Martinez, who was told of Los Blancos’ interest last December, according to Marca. The Spanish paper say Real see him as an ideal replacement and the player himself is willing to make the move to the Bernabeu but a stumbling block in a deal could be negotiating with the Basques who will hold out for the €30 million release clause. Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been linked with the 23-year-old but Real Madrid would be favourites and have as ...

Johan Cruyff has claimed Real Madrid have been lucky in their Champions League victory, after having scored the equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the 93rd minute of the final. “Real Madrid can’t complain of the luck they’ve had. As we the Dutch say, you can’t trust the Germans in the last five minutes because they always score. It’s the same here. The match is not over until the referee whistles,” Cruyff said in an interview with Spanish radio station COPE. The Former Barcelona manager refuesed to recognise that Los Blancos have been the best team in Europe this season. “In one football game you can’t say that a team is the best in Europe. I saw Bayern Munich winning and being successful, but they relaxed after winning the Bundesliga. Real had a strong team and played at 200% against them. We can say the same about the end of La Liga with Real, Barcelona and Atletico,” he pointed out. Cruyff also spoke about the World Cup that will kick off in two weeks: “Spain have all their men pl ...
SCHWEINSTEIGER ON THE CHEAP It seems like the kind of dodgy offer you’d expect from a TV shopping channel, but Bayern Munich is reportedly willing to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United for just $18m. Van Gaal worked with the Germany central midfielder during his time at the club, and with Pep Guardiola reportedly happy with the options he has at his disposal, would be willing to give the 29-year-old a chance to continue his career in England. Meanwhile, ExpressSport are reporting Barcelona’s interest in Red Devils’ playmaker Juan Mata, as they look to wrest the La Liga title back from Atletico Madrid.
Only once before did all the following things happen in the same year: - Austria won the Eurovision - A thrilling Fa Cup final saw the eventual winners come back to win 3-2 after being two goals down - Atletico claimed top spot in La Liga - Real were crowned champions of Europe - Ajax and Feyenoord finished first and second in the Eredivisie, Celtic won the Scottish League and Dortmund came in second behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga That year was 1966. Oh balls...
Last night's result has thrown up some fascinating reaction from people around the world. Real Madrid seem to have done an act of blasphemy by putting up such a stunning performance, not just last night but throughout the Champions League and most of the La Liga season.     Football fans who are not biased fanatics of a single team... (and lets be honest there will hardly be any from Atletico since the beginning of the season) seem to have found extreme loyalty for the Los Rojiblancos. And when you think of it, the underdogs have always received that.     It was Atletico Madrid this season, BVB Dortmund the last time, Bayern Munich twice the years before. Then there was Inter Milan who went on to win it in 09-10. Liverpool with their Istanbul comeback. Porto when Mourinho came in the limelight.     And these are just a few that I could think of.     Come to think of these examples and most of the times, all that these teams end up achieving is a single successful reason. There is no increased inco ...
A historic Champions League season is over. Records after records kept on breaking. From Napoli being the first ever team to not qualify with 12 points, to Zenit becoming the first ever team to do so with only 1 win, to Cristiano Ronaldo becoming the player with the most goals in a single campaign and now only 3 goals away from becoming the all time top scorer in the tournament. Carlo Ancelotti makes another history by winning the Champions League a record 3 times now and his record put him up there with the greatest of all time. Real Madrid finally win their La Decima, and confirm their status as the world's greatest club as there won't be any teams catching up on them anytime soon. They are deserved champions and won it fair and square. They swept aside top teams all the way, from champions of Italy, to three top German clubs in the knockout stages, and the battering of Bayern Munich, the then strongest club in Europe will be in memories for a long time to come. They scored the most goals ever by a winn ...
12 Noon Houston, Texas 5/24/2014 first ever European Cup Final to be contested by two teams from the same city takes place on Saturday as two sides from the Spanish capital head over the border to Lisbon. It is a big moment for both as Real Madrid look to win their 10th European Cup in their history, which would put them three clear of the nearest challengers in Milan. This is a moment the club have been waiting for since 2002 and none of the fans would have expected to have had to wait over a decade to have another chance to win the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti can also make history by becoming the second manager to win three European Cups after Bob Paisley and it would just continue the love affair with the competition for the Italian who also won two European Cups as a player. Real Madrid couldn't quite hang on to their title challenge in Spain, but the feeling has been that the club have focused on this game ever since they beat Bayern Munich in the Semi Final. It has been a strong Champions Leag ...

The Reds are also preparing an £18m bid for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony. Brendan Rodgers wants to strengthen his front line ahead of next season with the 25-year-old Ivorian supposedly fitting the bill. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also monitoring Bony's progress after 25 goals in his first season in English football. The Daily Star believe Liverpool remain in the hunt for Adam Lallana - but they will not pay over the odds for the Southampton midfielder. The paper claims the 26-year-old is keen on an Anfield switch, but Southampton are believed to want a structured deal which could eventually cost ...
DID YOU KNOW?? that the current managers of Fc Barcelona (Luis Enrique), FC Bayern Munich (Pep Guardiola), Chelsea FC (Jose Mourinho) and Manchester United FC (Louis Van Gaal) all worked together at Barça from 1997 to 2000? A most intriguing fact indeed. During those years, the club won five trophies: one European Super Cup, two La Liga titles, one Spanish Cup and one Catalan Cup. Mourinho was the one that divided that Friendship!

Sport: In soccer action overnight, Arsenal have put an end to a 9 year run without silverware by beating Hull City 3-2 in the Fa Cup this morning. The Gunners conceded two goals in the first 8 minutes, fought back to 2-2 and could only secure the title with an extra time goal to Aaron Ramsey. Elsewhere, Athelico Madrid have become the only other Spanish club to win the La Liga title in over decade aside from Barcelona or Real Madrid after drawing 1-1 with Barcelona. While also last night the German cup was won by Bayern Munich over Borussia Dortmund with 2 goals in extra time enough to see Bayern add yet another title to their impressive collection.
Well a great day of live sport on TV today but roll on 5pm as Barcelona take on Athletico Madrid in the La Liga title decider, what a game this will be and at 7pm on BT Sport is the German Cup Final Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund another blockbuster.
Today sees some huge football matches across Europe. Arsenal play Hull City in the Fa Cup final at Wembley at 17:00 BST, while across the border St Johnstone play Dundee United in the Scottish Cup final a couple of hours earlier. In Spain, Barcelona host Atletico Madrid in a winner takes all La Liga title decider, while in Germany, the country's two footballing giants, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, will contest the German Cup final in Berlin at 19:00. Starting with Arsenal. This is a Cup I will like them to win despite our rivalry. Arsene Wenger's side has not won a trophy since the 2005 Fa Cup. When Arsenal face Hull City today at Wembley, it will be four days short of nine years since manager Arsene Wenger last sampled the joy of lifting a trophy. Since the moment Patrick Vieira's final kick as an Arsenal player secured victory on penalties over Manchester United at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2005, Wenger and the Gunners have been forced to measure their success in terms of Champions League ...
Mr Predictor Hello and welcome to Mr Predictor, the exciting column where I analyse the week’s big football games and provide useful betting tips. The Premier League may have ended, but there is still a huge amount to be decided, with several cup finals taking place and of course the dramatic finale to the La Liga title. Will Barcelona spoil Atletico Madrid’s title dreams? Arsenal vs Hull City – Saturday The Gunners are on a run of 6 wins in a row against Hull, with the latest 3-0 win less than a month ago. This is one of the biggest games in the History of Hull City, and they will give everything, but they will be without cup-tied star strike duo of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic, which will limit their attacking options. With experienced players like Podolski, Ozil and Mertesacker, who have all won silverware before, I expect Arsenal to just have the edge, although it will be close. Mr Predictor predicts – Arsenal 2 Hull City 1 - (Long List Coupon selection 1) Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Muni ...
A big congratulations to Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich for winning the Fa Cup, La Liga and German cup respectively . I hope i won't have to eat my words later tonight.
Real Madrid-Espanyol Preview: Ancelotti's men face Champions League final warm-up Real Madrid end their Liga season against Espanyol on Saturday - but all eyes will be on another capital versus Catalunya clash at Camp Nou. A run of three games without victory has ended any hopes Real had of winning La Liga, so their meeting with Javier Aguirre's side represents little more than an undercard clash ahead of the title-deciding bout between their arch-rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which kicks off two hours later. Carlo Ancelotti's men have taken just two points from their last three league fixtures, meaning they have gone more than two Liga games without winning for the first time since May 2009. Real's poor run of domestic form has followed their stunning 4-0 Champions League semi-final second-leg demolition of Bayern Munich. And it is safe to say Ancelotti will now have more than one eye on next Saturday's Champions League showpiece with neighbours Atletico, when Real go in search of their long-awai ...

Liverpool appear to face a significant battle with a very reputable rival for the signing of Martin Montoya, with reports suggesting that Bayern Munich are planning a move for the Barcelona starlet. This is according to reports from Germany cited by talkSPORT, which claim that Montoya - who only signed a New Deal at the Camp Nou last month and is credited by such sources as a long-term Reds target - is also a target for Bayern, who will consider making an offer at the end of the season. While the new four-year deal handed to Montoya suggests that Barcelona are intent on keeping him for the foreseeable future, it is worth noting that the 23-year-old has played just 13 games in La Liga so far this season and is hardly considered first-choice under Tata Martino. The promise of first-team football could presumably tempt the £10 million-rated right-back into pondering a move away from the Catalans, with both Bayern Munich and Liverpool potentially attractive destinations given their respective domestic succes ...
"Our idea is to score goals. We've scored many this season." "We we want to win La Liga and the Champions League." "To score 2 or 3 goals against Real Madrid is not an easy task, but we will try with all our strength." "I wish Bayern Munich luck and I'm convinced they will eliminate Real Madrid." Benzema: "It doesn't matter who scores. The important thing is to score and reach the final."

MADRIDISTA FIRMER'S predictions (for 2013/2014 football season); August 2013 till January 2014. Some of them have gone wrong, some of them have come to pass, some of them are still in the pipeline. 1. Either Chelsea or Manchester City will win the Premier League. 2. Gareth Bale will NOT shine at Real Madrid. I won't be satisfied with Bale till he scores the winning goal in the Champions League final. 3. Arsenal will self-destruct in January. They can never win the league. 4. Real Madrid will win the treble. 5. Barcelona CAN go through the whole La Liga season unbeaten if they keep up this kind of play. Good job, Tata. 6. Ricky Van Wolfwinskel (the new Huntelaar) will shine in the EPL. 7. Bayern Munich will EASILY win the German Bundesliga. 8. La Decima will happen this year if we get to the finals. 9. David Moyes will not last for even a season at Manchester United. He will not succeed. Forget the Community Shield he won. 10. Arsenal will win a trophy this season, but it is DEFINITELY NOT the English Prem ...
Carlo Ancelotti insists Real Madrid will be putting the emphasis firmly on attack when they visit Bayern Munich for the second leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday. Madrid hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the Bernabeu, but Ancelotti said his intention is to extend that lead and that he would field a side featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale if the trio are fit. Speaking to the media after the 4-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga, Ancelotti said on the club’s official website: “I'm sure that I am going to pick an XI with a lot of desire and illusion. Everyone needs to be calm as we are going to prepare well. I have a lot of confidence in the players and they all need to have it. “The objective is to score"
Ronaldo double eases Madrid past Osasuna 26 April 2014, 22:27 Real Madrid's rampant Cristiano Ronaldo scored at the start of each half to set up a 4-0 victory olowly Osasuna and put the pressure back on La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Sergio Ramos and Daniel Carvajal also netted for Real who are second on 82 points, three behind Atletico before their trip to Valencia on Sunday with both teams having played 34 games. Barcelona, mourning the death of former coach Tito Vilanova on Friday, are now in third place with 81 points from 34 matches and travel to Villarreal on Sunday. Real did not risk Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema against Osasuna ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg at Bayern Munich on Tuesday in which they hold a 1-0 advantage. But there was no holding Ronaldo, who only returned from injury in Wednesday's first leg against Bayern at the Bernabeu having been out since early April, as he cut in from the left wing and fired into the corner of the net after six minutes. So if Iker Casillas can play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League then why isn't Carlo Ancelotti playing him in La Liga...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could be pitted against former club Real Madrid in the draw for the semi-finals of the Champions League, which takes place on Friday. Chelsea's dramatic victory over Paris St Germain and Real's narrow aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals earned both a place in the last four of Europe's premier club competition, where they are joined by Barcelona's conquerors Atletico Madrid and holders Bayern Munich, who beat Manchester United. Mourinho, 51, left Madrid in acrimonious circumstances in the summer - having led them to the 2011/12 La Liga title during his three-year reign - to rejoin Chelsea, who he led to two Premier League titles and an Fa Cup victory during a successful spell from 2004 to 2007. The Portuguese has faced Real four times in Europe as a manager, all during his time as Porto boss, and has never beaten them, losing three of the matches and drawing the other. However, that draw - 1-1 in Madrid - came in a group game during Porto's run to winning M ...
Backpass Part 1 Atletico Madrid made a smooth transition from "dark horse contender" to legitimate threat in this year's Uefa Champions League on Wednesday, dispatching Barcelona 1-0 (2-1 aggregate) at the Vicente Calderon. All this without 33-goal Diego Costa—the man whom so often rides to their rescue with a solitary, deciding goal—and Turkish speedster Arda Turan, essential to their quick-break, counterattacking philosophy. But with Atleti there is no grumbling, no kicking their feet in the sand; they got on with it, plain and simple, and plugged viable replacements into a well-oiled, nearly unbeatable system. Real Madrid have shown areas of weakness in La Liga and Europe, Bayern Munich can seemingly only turn it on when they're a goal down and Chelsea still lack a striker who can make the difference no matter what Demba Ba says. Atletico Madrid present a horror tactical matchup for any side who struggles to break down deep defensive systems set out in low-blocks. Bayern, Real and Chelsea could all ...
This is getting over the limit. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid are in the semi finals. I don't care about the draw. If its Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, then this derby, as you know will be AWESOME. If its Bayern and Real, then the clash between the two strongest teams in Europe can't be boring. If its Atletico and Chelsea then, its teamwork vs tactics. If its Bayern and Chelsea then, imagine the clash of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. If its Real and Chelsea, Mourinho will certainly try his best for his esteem. If its Bayern and Atletico, it will surely be out of the world. That is why I say Football is better then Cricket. I want Real and Atletico in the final at Lisbon.May the best team win. Barcelona should have been here but Atletico deserved this place for they playing better than any other team in the La Liga.
UEFA CHAMPIONS QUARTER FINAL PRODUCES DOUBLE DRAWS: Tuesday saw the return of the Champions League, with the first pair of quarter-finals offering mouth-watering ties between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and Barcelona and La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid. Both first legs turned out to be closer than expected, with out-of-form United holding reigning champions Bayern to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and Atleti coming away from Camp Nou with the same scoreline. United ensured they go to the Allianz Arena next week with a fighting chance even though Nemanja Vidic's second-half header was cancelled out by Bastian Schweinsteiger - who was then sent off late in the game - on 66 minutes. United would happily have taken a draw after spending much of the first half chasing shadows as Bayern dominated possession with Toni Kroos orchestrating matters in midfield. The Germans enjoyed almost 80 per cent of the ball in the opening 45 minutes and came closest to scoring when Arjen Robben was denied by a superb one-h ...
Good morning its April Fools day so watch out for the pranks that will be coming your way today. There's a good one in the paper this morning that says Plymouth are painting their field green so it's easier to see the players who play in green...Maybe that's why they are near the foot of the Second Division because no one has noticed them slipping down the leagues.lol..My favoutie last year was Google announcing a new programme they were launching called 'Nose' which allowed you to smell things through your computer...many people went to download it...lol I'm off to the gym this morning after the work and school runs.Tonight sees the start of the Champions League quarter finals with Manyoo set to go out after playing Bayern Munich the holders. The most intriguing tie is Barcelona v Atletic Madrid.the Madrid side are top of La Liga and normally you would back Barca but anything could happen in this one.Should make interesting watching. Big Sam vokes is out for the season and longer according to the latest ne ...
(2). Real Madrid VS Borussia Dortmund Here we have a repeat of last years semi-final, fast forward a year and the 2 teams have had contrasting fortunes, Real Madrid have improved remarkably and are currently leading La Liga. With a defence that’s so miserly and went 1,000 minutes without conceding a goal, the signs look daunting for Dortmund who are struggling to challenge Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and trail their arch rivals in the league by 23 massive points. Real impressively booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 7-2 aggregate demolition over Schalke, with a 6-1 away win over Galatassary in the group stages. Dortmund however only just qualified from their group and a win at Marseille and other results going their way, Dortmund won their group, a n impressive win over Zenit St Petersburg in the last round shows Dortmund are no pushovers, but it was sloppy how they lost the 2ng leg (their home game). MY VERDICT: Real Madrid WILL GO THROUGH
Embarrasing Info about Fc Barcelona !!! 1. Varane (defender) has played 2 Clasico's & scored twice . Iniesta has played 26 Clasico's & scored only once ! 2. Barca is holding the records for the biggest loss in La Liga , Copa del Rey & UCL Semi finals Respectively ! 3. In 1998 UCL Group stage Barca participated with New Castle, PSV & Dynamo Kiev & they finished group stage 4th ! 4. In 2000 , Real Madrid C.F. & Valencia C.F played the semi final of UCL & in the other hand Barbcelona was trying to qualify for the 2nd round of the Europa League ! 5. Italian Legend Paulo Maldini has played the UCL Final more than the Club F.C. Barbcelona . And more over he has achieved the title more than the club Barbielona ! 6. 270 Mins were not enough for Barca to score against Bayern Munich ! While CR7 needed less than 15 mins to score 2 goals against them ! lolz. :)
WHAT IF I told You- *Man City will be the winner of BPL. *Real Madrid will be the winner of La Liga and Champions leage by beating Bayern Munich. *Brazil Will be the winner of Fifa World Cup 2014. *Ronaldo will be the bestest player in the universe of all time till the world finished!
Manchester United will face an arduous task in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League, having been dealt a match-up against defending champions Bayern Munich. To make matters worse, there will be no chance for a dramatic comeback in front of a voracious Old Trafford crowd, as the Red Devils will play the first leg at home. Their English Premier League rivals Chelsea fared slightly better, as they take on Paris St Germain and their talismanic striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There will also be a rematch of last year’s semi- final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, as Jurgen Klopp’s men will aim to go one better than in the 2012-13 season, where they were beaten 2-1 in the final thanks to a last minute goal from Dutchman Arjen Robben. And finally, there’s an all-Spanish tie between Lionel Messi’s Barcelona and upstarts Atletico Madrid, who, back in La Liga, are currently offering the first real challenge in many years to the domestic duopoly of Barca and Real. This was arguably the stro ...

Pep: Barca success became a curse Stephan Uersfeld, Germany Correspondent March 19, 2014 Pep Guardiola has revealed he decided to leave Barcelona in 2012 because he felt he could no longer reach his players, telling the Audi Annual Report his glittering reign had come to feel like “a curse.” • Top Tenner: Messi goals Guardiola, now with Bayern Munich, succeeded Frank Rijkaard as Barca coach in 2008 after an impressive spell in charge of the club’s B team and, in a remarkable four-year spell, won 14 trophies including two Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles. However, throughout his tenure he had always refused to commit to the club long-term and, in April 2012, he announced that he would be leaving at the end of the season, telling a news conference: “I have nothing left and need to recharge my batteries.” The announcement had followed a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League semifinals, when the Blues came back from 2-0 down in the second leg at the Camp Nou to claim a ...

The achievements of Barcelona in recent times have been such that Martino is expected to face the chop if he doesn’t deliver either the Champions League or La Liga trophy come May. Defeat to Real Madrid next week will make the latter of those a distant dream, while many see the Catalans as outsiders for the European title thanks to the continued consistency of Bayern Munich. But one thing that Barca have in their corner is arguably the greatest player in 21st century football. Another starring show for Messi next Sunday could well see the Spanish title race come alive once more. Real Madrid have been warned … 371 times.

The Arsenal midfielder, 25, was injured in the second minute of Tuesday's Champions League exit at Bayern Munich but played on until half-time. The club's £42.4m record signing will miss Sunday's trip to Tottenham, as well as games against Chelsea, Swansea, Manchester City and Everton. Mesut Ozil Born: Gelsenkirchen, Germany Age: 25 Previous clubs: Real Madrid, Schalke, Werder Bremen International: 53 caps for Germany, 17 goals Honours: Spanish Super Cup (2012), La Liga (2011-12), Copa del Rey (2011), DFB Cup (2009), DFL Supercup (2009) He is also doubtful for the Fa Cup semi-final against Wigan on 12 April. Arsene Wenger Reacts to Reports He Will Leave Arsenal for Barcelona. Arsene Wenger his played down reports suggesting he could replace Gerardo Martino as Barcelona head coach, committing his future to Arsenal with a simple statement. Wenger on Catalan suggestions he's on Barcelona shortlist: "My commitment is here and nowhere else", but no developments on new contract. — Miguel Delaney (March 14, 2014 The Frenchman has long been linked with signing a new Emirates contract, reported but he is yet to confirm a prolonged stay. This has led to speculation suggesting he could be lined up as a replacement for Tata, who has come under fire for La Blaugrana's failing season in Spain. Should Arsene Wenger be the next Barcelona manager? Barcelona are currently four points off Real Madrid at the La Liga summit. The recent loss to Valladolid who managed just their fifth win of the season with the 1-0 victory—has left Martino's men in a difficult position as we head toward crunch time. Indeed, failure to beat Los ...
Fabregas: Barcelona can win the treble. The midfielder is confident that the Catalans have the potential to sweep all before them if they perform to their potential, and also praised "natural leader" Lionel Messi Cesc Fabregas has insisted that Barcelona are among the favourites in the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey - despite stiff competition and a recent wobble in form. The Catalans have stumbled in recent domestic matches, losing twice in their prior three Liga ties to give Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid the upper hand in the Primera Division title race, and now sit four points off the pace. They face the Blancos in the Copa del Rey final in April, but are likely to face a tough Champions League quarter-final beforehand. Fabregas, 26, is yet to taste European glory with the Catalans, after returning to the club he grew up at in 2011, but he believes that there is no reason why they cannot pull off a treble, particularly on the back of their 4-1 aggregate win over Manchester City. "I wa ...
[Uefa Champions League: Wednesday] Barcelona joined La Liga rival Atletico Madrid, defending champion Bayern Munich and French giant Paris St. Germain in the final eight of the Uefa Champions League with a 2-1 win over Manchester City.
FOOTBALL NEWS: Are We Seeing the Fall of the Barcelona Empire? During the last five years, Barcelona have been embraced by the whole footballing universe as they achieved amazing results while playing a spectacular brand of football. But also it has generated jealousy, with millions eager to see the great side fall; when the giant falls, the noise is usually deafening. Now it appears the end may finally be at hand. After the 1-0 defeat against Valladolid, we Spaniards can hardly hear ourselves think amidst the whoops of joy emanating from Madrid and several other places besides. Barca lost everything at Jose Zorrilla stadium. They lost three points, which in the context of the Spanish league is crucial. They lost the trust of their fans, who are starting to realise that this is the beginning of the end of their cycle of dominance. And, worst of all, they are losing their own essence. This year is Barcelona's worst for years, at least in La Liga. Their performance against Manchester City at the Etihad was ...
He’s won two Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and has taken charge of the Treble-winning Bayern Munich. Fitting, then, that Pep Guardiola is the best-paid football manager in the world, raking in £14.8million per year.
Fear of Failure? and I quote: Mourinho found a new managerial post in April 2001 with União de Leiria, whom he took to their highest-ever league finish of fifth place after joining the club with seven games left to be played.[28] During his second season at União de Leiria, the team was on a run contesting places as high as third and fourth by January. After a 2–1 win against Paços de Ferreira on 27 January, the team was in third place, one point ahead of both Porto and Benfica and three points behind the top of the league table. Mourinho's successes at Leiria did not go unrecognized and he caught the attention of larger Portuguese clubs. He began working with Robson's successor, Louis Van Gaal, and he learnt much from the Dutchman's conscientious style. Both assistant and head coach combined their studious approach to the game and Barcelona won La Liga twice in Van Gaal's first two years as coach. Van Gaal saw that his number two had the promise to be more than a skilled assistant. He let Mourinho d ...

Punch Ronaldo is World Footballer of the Year JANUARY 14, 2014 BY FATAI IBRAHIM Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for player of the year. Ronaldo scored a staggering 69 goals in 59 matches for club and country in 2013 and was hot favourite to lift the prestigious award he last held in 2008, reports Sky Sports. Barcelona and Argentina’s Lionel Messi has claimed the honour over the past four years but had to make way for his La Liga rival, despite his 43 goals in as many matches last year. Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery, who helped his side win the treble of Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup, was the other player in the running but the France international was also to be disappointed. But from the Nigerian side, it was not all smooth sail for Ronaldo as he did not receive any vote from the three Nigerian voters. Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi who backed Mikel Obi for the African Footballer of the Year award ironically voted ...

With this piece I say happy birthday to the legendary sir Alex Chapman Ferguson...From Sir Alex Ferguson to Bayern Munich, Top Ten Moments of 2013 What many may have considered an unlucky year, turned out to be one of the most memorable for world football. For one reason or another, everyone had an achievement to celebrate, whether it was a title, lives dedicated to playing and coaching, or simply the chance to play the best of the best no matter what the odds. So here’s Inside Futbol’s look back at the year 2013 and the top 10 footballing moments it threw up. 1) Lionel Messi’s Fourth Ballon d’Or (7th January) Breaking records has never been a problem for Lionel Messi and the Argentine began world football's 2013 by becoming the first-ever player to win four Ballon d'Or awards, picking up his accolade for 2012. He was never going to rest, though, and led Barcelona to yet another La Liga title. Only a hamstring injury this season has prevented him from adding more goals to his staggering tal ...
Mid-season review: Good job Tata Top of the league, through to the Uefa Champions League’s round of sixteen, qualified for the Copa del Rey’s round of sixteen and Supercopa de España champions. This is how it stands right now for Fc Barcelona under Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s leadership…and it couldn’t have gone any better. Tata Martino took charge of a team that had been recently torn apart in the Champions League by Bayern Munich and suffered significant home defeats from both Bayern and Real Madrid. Although La Liga champions, change was very much needed. Barça lacked creativity when attacking and the defensive line couldn’t have been worse, and fans started to think: Is it Tito? Are some of the players getting old? Are the players no longer hungry for trophies? Do we need Pep back? Martino’s acceptance to join Barça was the first plus in his favor, with so much pressure being put on the team and demands of the return of the all conquering Barça we had gotten used to. Some questioned ...

A hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo saw Real Madrid thump Real Sociedad 5-1 in a La Liga match at the Bernabéu on Saturday. Borussia Dortmund lost ground to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after losing 2-1 away to Wolfsburg on Saturday. Ghana attacker Kevin-Prince Boateng scored a brace to help Schalke come from behind to defeat Werder Bremen 3-1 on Saturday.
Manchester United to sign Barcelona's Startlet Only for £6million. Man United are considering a move for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto according to the Metro. The Old Trafford side failed in their attempts to land Thiago Alcantara, who left the Nou Camp for Bayern Munich, and David Moyes also made advances for Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas and it appears the Scot is now ready to try his luck on signing another member of the Catalan club’s squad. The 21 year old starlet Roberto could reportedly be available for as little as £6m and Moyes is ready to make such a bid in the January transfer window. The Spanish Under 21 international has made three sub appearances in La Liga action thus far this season and has only made two domestic league starts for Barcelona and may feel his chances of securing a regular spot in Gerardo Martino’s first team set-up are slim and therefore may be open to a move to join Man United.
Football (soccer) : Who are the best European pro football teams in the world this season (2013/2014) Bayern Munich (Germany) The winners of the 2012/13 Uefa Champions League and German Bundesliga get the first mention. These Bavarian giants showcased their domination last season by having one of the best offensive and defensive records in Europe, last recording a loss in February against Arsenal. The new boss in town for this season is Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, who looks to bring a more possession-style play to the German side. They have made some very high-profile signings in the summer, including attacking midfielders Mario Gotze from rivals Borussia Dortmund and Thiago Alcantara from Pep's former team. Fc Barcelona (Spain) Speaking of Barcelona, the Catalonian club looks to find more success in La Liga with the acquisition of Brazilian winger Neymar from Santos. He is touted as the "next big thing" in football, and with an already world-class side with Messi, Iniesta, Fabregas, and Xavi, ...
Man Utd and Milan move over - the Champions League elite has lost its power After years of dominance and control at the top-end of the sport, the top teams have seen their power weaken as more leagues and rivals threaten their hegemony Sep 16, 2013 9:00:00 AM COMMENT By Carlo Garganese When Arsene Wenger actually agrees to spend €50 million on one player, you know it has been one *** of a transfer window. And that is exactly what it was. This has been a summer that could signal the beginning of a new era in European football. For the first time in at least two decades, the established order is being seriously threatened - and potentially overthrown - by new challengers. Since the creation and then expansion of the Champions League, Bayern Munich have been - until the recent arrival of PSG - the only European superpower outside of the Premier League, La Liga or Serie A. Barring the odd anomaly - such as Porto’s shock 2004 success – just a handful of teams from these three countries have been equippe ...

Pique urges Thiago to stay at Barca (Submitted by Sports Journalist) Gerard Pique has declared that Barcelona must try and talk Manchester United target Thiago Alcantara into staying at the Catalan club. Alcantara netted a hat-trick in Spain's 4-2 win over Italy in the under-21 European Championship final and has captained the side throughout the tournament in Israel, helping the team achieve a perfect record of five wins out of five. The midfielder was also a key member of the side that won the tournament in 2011. However, his future at the Camp Nou has been cast into doubt. Alcantara made just 15 starts in La Liga last season, struggling to hold down a place in the first team, where he faces stiff competition from the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. According to reports in Spain, he has already decided to leave Barcelona, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich reportedly the two clubs that have shown the most interest in him. Either club could seal his signature shortly by paying his 18mil ...
Santa Cruz at the top of Hamburg´s wishlist Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer has begun the process of revamping his squad, and wants to make Roque Santa Cruz his first signing. Kreuzer succeeded Frank Arnesen on June 4 and the 47-year-old is already making plans to improve the squad with new players and remove those he does not believe to be good enough. Hamburg missed out on European qualification last season as they finished seventh in the Bundesliga, but a lack of goals is something that hampered their progress and Kreuzer believes Santa Cruz is the perfect choice to help resolve that problem. The Paraguayan striker was released by Malaga at the end of the La Liga season and Kreuzer is keen to move quickly and bring him to the club. The 31-year-old made 155 appearances for Bayern Munich during a previous spell in Germany and has all the attributes Hamburg are looking for. “Santa Cruz fits squarely into our requirements,” he told German newspaper Bild. “He can play alone in the top, front ...
In order to have a shot at taking down Bayern Munich or a fully fit Barcelona, or solidly outplaying a Dortmund, Manchester United, or Juventus asthey believe they should, Madrid must develop a better sense of identity and style of play. They must embrace the high pressing game, using their speed and physicality to out-hustle the opposing team. At every competition exit in the Mourinho era, and the several La Liga gamesthat ending up costing them titles,Los Blancos have looked disjointed, lacking ideas, and beenunable to finish when needed. In order to lift La Décima , Madrid must be able to impose their will on any opponent. Turning to Barcelona, it is evident that change is also needed. Messi was not fit against Bayern, but even with La Pulga at full force, the Blaugrana would have been hard pressed to match Bayern’s intensity and physicality. The teamclearly needs another attacking player to take the load off of Messi, preferably one comfortable out on the wing. Alexis Sánchez looks good against le ...
For the second straight year, Real Madrid and Barcelona arrived in the Champions League semi finals with illusions of an all Spanish Clásico final, only to find themselves disappointed. Real Madrid almost completed the unlikeliest of comebacks in the final minutes against Borussia Dortmund as the legendary Estadio Santiago Bernabéu was raging. Los Blancos will rue their early missed chances, coming up just short against a Dortmund side that was ultimately the betterteam for most of the two legged tie. Barcelona, on the other hand, were without a fully fit Lionel Messi and were absolutely steamrolled by Bayern Munich, who are the likely favorites to lift the big-eared trophy at Wembley on May 25th. Dortmund’s meteoric rise and Bayern’s emphatic victory are clear signs that the balance of power in Europe’s premier competition has shifted away from La Liga and towards the Bundesliga. Having led the pack ininfrastructure, attendance, and low ticket prices for quite some time, the German first division ...
It is not about one series. Not about one perceived mistake or flaw. There is always blame to go around when a team lose. It is the totality of areas where Bylsma can be argued to be culpable and the FACT that we have been humiliated in the playoffs in both these last two seasons where we were rightly considered favourites to win the whole thing. Why would anyone take the bet that Bylsma will change when he gives no indication of wanting to or seeing the need to? Can anyone think of any coach in the NBA who could make the Miami Heat not make the playoffs while being among the top regular season teams doing so? Can anyone thing of a coach in La Liga who would not have F.C Barcelona or Real Madrid among the top teams? Manchester United in the Premier League? Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga? The Pens are pre-season favourites for the cup every year, or top3 at worst. That is because we have the best collection of star players in the league and an ownership spending enough resources that - on paper at least - ...
Barcelona midfielder Xavi believes Jose Mourinho tarnished the legacy of Real Madrid's Galacticos, insisting the outgoing manager had a negative effect on the club's "footballing philosophy". - Rigg: Real's folly of youth - Ronaldo hopeful of Real deal Xavi, who has been vocal in his disdain of Mourinho in recent years, was critical of Real Madrid's season, which saw them finish 15 points behind Barca. The Spain international hit out at Mourinho's attitude and the style of play he introduced at the Bernabeu - despite it paying dividends as Real lifted the 2011/12 La Liga title - claiming Los Blancos require a tactical overhaul if they are to return to their glory days. "I don't want people to think that I'm always attacking Mourinho, that's not my intention, but obviously I don't like the way his teams play on the pitch," the 33-year-old told Sport. It annoyed me to see them play like that as they had an idea and a concept before. [Zinedine] Zidane, Roberto Carlos - they were incredible. "They dominated e ...

Barcelona to sign Neymar in the summer Barcelona have secured a deal to sign Santos starlet Neymar for an estimated €28 million. The Brazil international will join Camp Nou on a five-year contract having rejected overtures from Real Madrid - who are believed to have offered the Sao Paulo club €7m more than the Blaugrana to no avail. The forward will earn a base amount of €7m- per-year at Camp Nou which, although is less than he was being offered by the Santiago Bernabeu side, will see him earn extra due to an agreement with international sports brand Nike. Neymar has been on the radar of numerous top European clubs for a couple of years, having shone in South America and earned plaudits including a Ballon d'Or nomination for the 2013 edition. The Selecao starlet has been tentatively linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain but by far the favourites to snap up the 21-year-old were La Liga giants Barca - whose increasing interest Goal revealed in April - and Madrid. Looks like all the big guns will be in the QF of the Champions League although there could still be a couple of nobodies in the draw depending on what happens next week. Why can these clubs reach the latter stages whereas Scottish clubs cannot? Okay it is Scotland we are talking about - generally suck at all different sports - but you would think Celtic would have reached the quarter - finals by now ie a team from Cyprus accomplished it last season albeit they were annihliated in quarters by the very talented Real Madrid lol. But Britain in general *** at most sports whereas America is good at golf, athletics, tennis, swimming, boxing, basketball in addition to always finishing at the top of the Summer Olympics medals ables and either first second or third in the Winter Olympics medal table lol. And the English Premier League is miles behind La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie as far as quality is concerned as European results have indicated in the past couple of seasons. Bayern Munich have reached two of . ...
Surely, it's not the best of times for Fc Barcelona of Spain. After being humbled 2-0 by a defiant Ac Milan side in their Champions League round of 16 1st leg, it has been ignominiously followed by a Copa del Rey and La Liga defeats to their arch rivals Real Madrid. With 3 defeats in the space of two weeks, there's definitely no much smiles at Camp Nou at the moment. Stripped of Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova, Barcelona have not been able to get the groove and spark that characterised the tenure of Guardiola who opted out after the 2010/2011. In him, Barcelona had a coach blessed with tact, know-how, technical clout and charisma to tutore his galaxy of talented players even when the chips were down. He possessed that charm and aura that propelled the Blaugrana in his time. He was intelligent and smartly dressed. I digress. My point is that without an atom of doubt, this gentlemam who is now contracted to Bayern Munich has left a big hole that will take some time to be filled. Tito Vilanova, his assistan ...

Tactical analysis of the eight match-ups in the last 16 draw throws up some clashes of style and some similar approaches, such as Bayern Munich's and Arsenal's possession games     Real Madrid v Manchester United José Mourinho returns to the scene of his touchline sprint when Porto coach in 2004, while Cristiano Ronaldo will receive a great ovation from the Manchester United fans – but Real are currently underperforming in La Liga, and won't relish this encounter. The obvious pre-match debate will concern how United stop Ronaldo – he started as a right-winger and was used in a variety of roles in his final seasons in England, but now plays from the left and cuts in on to his right foot to devastating effect. Rafael da Silva will have the toughest test of his career so far. Milan v Barcelona These two sides know each other well, having met in both the group and the knockout stage of the Champions League last season. Barcelona triumphed over the course of the four matches, winning by a to ...
Emirates Stadium and Anfield side chase experienced La Liga centre-back. Arsenal & Liverpool are the front runners in the pursuit of giant Venezuelan international Fernando Amorebieta according to the Express. The experienced 27 year old looks likely to be the latest to flee San Mames as his contract is set to run to it’s conclusion this summer, making the centre-back available on a free transfer. The Athletic Bilbao man has over 250 appearances with the La Liga side to his name but seems keen to move on having seen Javi Martinez move to Bayern Munich and Fernando Llorente due to join Juventus in the summer. Arguably both Arsenal and Liverpool could do with a fresh defensive option as both sides have suffered mishaps at the back. Arsenal have three international level centre-backs to choose from but captain Thomas Vermaelen has looked far from comfortable at times this season. With Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci set to leave there will be room for a defensive addition. Similarly Liverpool have ha ...

Weak. Week. Wiik. Wheak. Wiek. End talks: - Let's kick off with the biggest result of the w/end. Barcelona lost 3-2. Few Barcelona fans have committed suicide as a result of their defeat, but La Liga is still a done deal. Real Madrid, despite winning 5-0 away to Valencia, you can stop dreaming, it's not happening. - Juventus smashed Udinese 4-0, but the star of the night was Paul Pogba who delivered 2 long range missiles. A great up and coming talent; he might eventually be considered by Fergie as the "one that got away" if he keeps up these standards. - Inter Milan drew 1-1 with Roma, whereas AC Milan beat Bologna 2-1. Both results don't improve their standings in the league. The Serie A is a 3 horse race, and neither of the Milan clubs are horses. - Bayern Munich beat Gruther Feurth 2-0 to cap off what can only be deemed as a successful week following the announcement of Guardiola as their next manager. Munich are 9 points clear at the top over Leverkusen, whereas Dortmund (like Madrid in Spain), won 5- ...
Ignorance aside, here are five possible reasons why Guardiola may have decided against England, and opted instead for Germany... 1. Philosophy In Europe's top five leagues, Bayern only trail one team when it comes to possession and pass completion. That team is Barcelona. Quite simply, Barcelona to Bayern Munich makes sense - it's a good fit. The German giants like to dominate possession, they bully teams in a similar manner to Barcelona in La Liga. The structure is similar - the club is majority owned by the fans - and the club, and the league, is on the up. An impressive stadium, excellent training facilities, and a sizeable transfer budget offers flexibility, and the capacity to grow. For a romantic like Guardiola, the history - the four European Cups - is also appealing. 2. The opportunity to win immediately Bayern Munich went into the winter break 11 points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. They have a great team, superb young players, and offer Guardiola the opportunity to monopolise the Bund ...

His greatest achievement of the past 12 months — breaking Gerd Mueller'sFake oakleys radar  calendar-year scoring world record — came too late in 2012 to be considered in Ballon d'Or deliberations. Votes had to be cast by Nov. 15. But it wasn't until Dec. 9 that Messi scored his 86th goal of 2012 to pull past Mueller's milestone of 85 with Bayern Munich and West Germany in 1972. But before voting closed, Messi did surpass Pele's single-season milestone from 1958 of 75 goals for Brazil and Santos. Messi's 50 league goals and eight hat tricks (Ronaldo had seven) for Barcelona in the 2011-2012 season were La Liga records. Messi's season total of 73 goals from 60 games for the club also was a world record and broke the previous European club record of 67 goals that Mueller had owned since 1973. Messi also stopped being a dud for his national team. His record-equaling 12 goals in 2012 forbest fake oakley  Argentina suggested he could steal host Brazil's show at the 2014 World Cup. Weekend ramblings: - Does anyone want to contest what I've been saying for the past few weeks about La Liga being over? Real Madrid drew 2-2 with Espanyol and Barcelona finished 2nd place Atletico Madrid. The Catalans are top and clear by 9 points. - Lionel Messi, another double, another record. Just a regular weekend for the Argentine. - Inter Milan lost 1-0 to Lazio, allowing Juventus to steer clear at the top by 6 points following their 3-0 win over Atalanta. - Drobga isn't joining Juventus. That rumor's got to stop. Though it would be bloody awesome if he did. - AC Milan will end the season well. They're just slowly climbing their way into the top 5. It'll happen. Having converted 25 consecutive spot-kicks, Ronaldo saw his penalty saved by Manuel Neuer in the shoot-out against the Germans. And once again, the former Manchester United man was off target, with his penalty kept out by Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz. Higuain gave Real the lead with an arrowing effort into the top corner, and Ronaldo was involved again, laying on Ozil, who tapped in at the back post, before the Portugal international completed the scoring with a header. Earlier in the day, Lionel Messi broke the record for goals in a top-flight European season as he took his Barcelona tally to 68 with a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Malaga. 2011-12 La Liga top scorers Lionel Messi - 46 Cristiano Ronaldo - 44 Radamel Falcao - 23 Gonzalo Higuain - 22 Karim Benzema - 20 Bayern Munich legend Gerd Mueller's record had stood for 39 years but that mark was bettered as Messi claimed his ninth treble of the season. The Benito Villamarín sold out for Barça clash Real Betis fans have come out in droves, selling out the club’s stadium for Sunday’s Week 15 clash against Barcelona. By Tom Conn This is the first time this season that Real Betis have sold out the 50,000 seat Estadio Benito Villamarín and the fans are determined to not miss the chance to witness history. Barcelona striker, Leo Messi is just one goal away from tying legendary Bayern Munich striker, Gerd Mueller’s 85 goals in a calendar year, and could even pass the record in Sevilla, as well. The fans are also coming out to support their beloved club, as they find themselves firmly in a Champions League position and are hoping for an upset, the likes of which they saw several weeks ago as Los Beticos beat defending La Liga champions, Real Madrid at home. If Betis are able to defeat Barcelona it would only be the sixth time in Betis history that a team has accomplished such a feat, as the last one was during the 2007/2008 season with manager, Paco Ch ...

Lionel Messi will be trying on Saturday to get close to Gerd Mueller's record of 85 goals in a calendar year - and that could be bad news for Zaragoza. Messi has scored 76 goals in all competitions in 2012 for Barcelona and Argentina, and is just nine shy of the mark the Bayern Munich and Germany idol Mueller established in 1972. Messi failed to score in Argentina's dull 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, a fact which will make even keener to bulge the net on Saturday. "I am irritated with what happened tonight. This is not the way we wanted to finish the year (with Argentina)," Messi said. "We didn't do what we should have done from the start. We should have won but we didn't. All matches are important, even if it is a friendly like today." The little Argentine is top of La Liga's scoring chart with 15 goals, three ahead of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. Some sectors of the media in Madrid have tried to claim that Messi is getting on badly with David Villa, Barca's other star striker, using as ...

Goals from Higuain and Cristiano were enough to lead the Merengue past the Galician outfit, moving them up to fourth place in La Liga
Bayern Munich are now 2-0 up! Toni Kroos scores their second against La Liga side Valencia!
What does not take much statistical analysis to figure out is that Barcelona are Europe's current best team. Their success over the past few years has been astounding - three consecutive La Liga titles and two Champions League titles in three years prior to last season. Like Spain at international level, Barcelona may lose the odd match, but over the course of a season their win percentage will be much higher, and they place themselves more consistently in positions to win trophies - in semi-finals and finals. Blokhin's right, the best team does not always win, but Barcelona prove they do so with unerring regularity. As a result they sit atop the Euro Club Index, almost 100 points clear of La Liga rivals Real Madrid. In third and fourth place sit last year's top Premier League clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City respectively. Last season's Champions League finalists find themselves in fifth and sixth, although Chelsea sit beneath Bayern Munich, despite their penalty shootout victory. The only oth ...
Manchester City were drawn into the Uefa Champions League group of death, Thursday, joining Real Madrid, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund in intimidating Group D. In addition to the reigning Premier League champions, the bracket also includes the winners of La Liga, the Eredivisie and the Bundesliga. City are the only one of the quartet to have never won the European Cup; Madrid, Ajax and Dortmund have combined to win the continent’s most prestigious club competition a total of 14 times. The 1970 Cup Winners Cup is the only European trophy in City’s cabinet, and when all continental prizes are considered the four sides in group D have 20 pieces of silverware between them. Cristiano Ronaldo, who along with Lionel Messi finished behind Andres Iniesta in the Best Footballer in Europe voting, bagged 60 goals for Madrid last season—10 of which came in the Champions League. He’ll once again be central to his side’s European ambitions as Madrid look to go one step further from their semifinal exit of 2011-13 ...

Man City face shocking Champions League draw Manchester City are facing a shocking Champions League draw for next season. The newly-crowned Premier League champions will be in pot two for the draw in Monaco on August 30 and will face one of the top seeds – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan or FC Porto – in the group stage. United, Arsenal and holders Chelsea are also among the top seeds but English teams can’t be drawn together until the quarter-finals. The full list of 32 qualifiers for the group stage won’t be known until after the preliminary rounds are completed in August. But with La Liga winners Real Madrid in pot one, Serie A winners Juventus in pot three and Bundesliga winners Borussia Dortmund likely to be in pot four, City could be handed the daunting task of escaping from a four-team ‘Champions League’ to qualify for the knock-out stages. My take This is strange! Its a case of the higher you go the harder it becomes

Neither Chelsea nor Bayern Munich were supposed to be in the 2012 Uefa Champions League final, it was supposed to a clash of La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid...
Messi is the first player in Liga history with eight hat tricks in one season. Messi When Messi made his first goal, Leo made goal number 68 in the season, breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 67 goals in one season (Bayern Munich, 1972-73). When Messi made his second goal, he became the first player since Dudu Georgescu in 1976-77 to hit 47 goals; a mark he would surpass only ten minutes later. Messi has contributed in 100 goals in all competitions for Fc Barcelona this season: 72 goals and 28 assists. Messi made a new world record for being the first football player ever to score 72 official goals for his club in a single season in the history of football. The only other player to have scored 70 goals in a first-division season was Archie Stark of Bethlehem Steel in the American Soccer League in 1924-25. Manchester City closes in on the EPL. Real Madrid wins the La Liga. Juventus captures the Seria A. Chelsea wins the Fa Cup and faces Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
