Edin Džeko: I'm there when Man City need me Edin Dzeko is planning to be the City goal hero in Rome. And the Bosnian Diamond, who has form for coming up with vital strikes, hopes he can help the Blues complete an unlikely Champions League escape, despite losing top scorer Sergio Aguero. The Blues HAVE to score, and better CSKA Moscow’s result at Bayern Munich, to grab second place in their group. But the loss of Aguero, out with knee ligament damage, was a severe blow, especially as Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic are both coming back from injury. Dzeko has been the City saviour many times, not least on the final day of the incredible 2012 title race, when he scored the “other” added time goal that set up Aguero’s immortal winner. He id it again last season, coming into the team when Aguero and Jovetic were injured, and Alvaro Negredo’s form had nosedived, and bagged crucial goals at Crystal Palace and Everton, and in a nervy home win over Aston Villa. Now City will look to him again, either as a star ...

Ahead of Sunday's visit to in-form Southampton - two points ahead of the Blues in the table - the City boss confirmed David Silva, Aleksandar Kolarov Kolarov and Edin Dzeko will miss the game with injuries. "Everybody else is fit and available," said Pellegrini.

MUNICH, Germany, Sept 17, 2014 (AFP) - A superb strike by Jerome Boateng with a minute remaining earned Bayern Munich a dramatic 1-0 victory against Manchester City in their opening Champions League game of the season on Wednesday. An inspired performance by City goalkeeper Joe Hart looked to have secured his team a point in the meeting of the English and German champions at Munich's Allianz Arena. But former City defender Boateng hammered a volley into the net in the dying seconds, although his venomous strike appeared to take a deflection off Bayern's Mario Goetze on its way in. Hart had pulled off a string of fine saves from Thomas Mueller, David Alaba, Goetze and Boateng but the England international was finally beaten as Bayern earned a deserved win in their opening Group E fixture. Manchester City had come back from two goals down to beat Bayern 3-2 at the same venue in last season's group stages and they started with Edin Dzeko, who has yet to score this season, leading the attack instead of Sergio ...

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, 27, is ready to accept a pay cut to join Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga side want the Bosnian as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, 25, who has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Bayern Munich in June.
Arsenal will have to pay a loan fee of £1.7m for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, 21, although they would also spend big if the right target became available. Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic, 27, Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa, 25, Porto's Jackson Martinez, 27, Manchester City's Edin Dzeko, 27, and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, 28, are among the club's preferred options.
Manchester City scored so many goals in their Capital One Cup first leg semifinal thrashing of West Ham that Edin Dzeko forgot how many they mustered. The Bosnian striker scored twice, notching City’s fifth and sixth goals in a victory that takes them to the brink of a first League Cup final since 1976. But he said to Sky Sports: "It's not easy to win 5-0 at home against a Premier League team but we did. Was it 6-0? Oh.” And manager Manuel Pellegrini, who famously got his maths wrong in the Champions League game away at Bayern Munich when he thought City needed to win 5-2 to top the group -- whereas 4-2 would have sufficed -- sympathised. “That happens sometimes,” he smiled. “It was a brilliant performance. It doesn't matter if we were two, three or four up we kept playing the same way, always looking for more goals.” Alvaro Negredo scored a hat trick and Yaya Toure struck after a long solo run and Pellegrini allayed fears that the midfielder, who seemed hurt by a first-half challenge with Moh ...
Manuel Pellegrini: Did not appear to know a 4-2 win would have won the group Manuel Pellegrini appeared to be unaware that Manchester City needed only one more goal against Bayern Munich to top their UEFA Champions League group. City were 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena inside the opening 12 minutes, but drew level through goals from David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov before James Milner put the Premier League side ahead on 62 minutes. A fourth goal would have seen City top Group D by virtue of a better head-to-head record against Bayern, who won 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the competition. However, with two minutes to go, Pellegrini replaced striker Edin Dzeko with midfielder Jack Rodwell and appeared to suggest he thought City required a 5-2 win in order to finish first. "It is very important to be first in the group but not the most important thing. It was difficult to score two goals and I think that Silva couldn't play more than 70 minutes." The City boss told Sky Sports when asked if he was t ...

Arsenal are perfect for Robert Lewandowski. Robert Lewandowski & Arsenal both need each other. Lewandowski humbled Arsenal on Tuesday. If ever Arsenal needed a reminder of how valuable Robert Lewandowski would be to their team, he delivered one himself last night by scoring the winner in a 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. His driving 90 yard run in the 85th minute showed remarkable fitness and determination whilst his deft finish oozed class. No wonder the world has been raving about the 25-year-old Polish international for over a year now. His contract is up at the end of the season and it was widely believed he would move to Dortmund's rivals Bayern Munich. He has, however, recently stated that he might not necessarily sign for the Bavarians and said the Premier League is an attracting prospect. Spainish wizard, Juan Mata and Brazil defender, David Luiz are not among the five. And Fernando Torres (who is wanted at the Emirate) could also be waving farewell to the Premier League this summer. Edin Dzeko's hopes of a return to the Bundesliga this summer have been dashed by Borussia Dortmund's policy on ages and wages. The Manchester City striker was reported to be on the verge of heading back to Germany, but Sportsmail can reveal that Dortmund have slammed the door on his chances of being a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. As the race for Lewandowski hots up between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, Dortmund are on the look-out for another attacking spearhead. But to Dzeko's dismay, they are looking for a younger, cheaper candidate on wages considerably less than his current £130,000 a week. Dortmund have put a £15million ceiling on any transfer fee - £10million less than City want for Dzeko – and are also mindful that the former Wolfsburg marksman turns 27 a week on Sunday. If that wasn't enough to put them off, they flatly refuse even to consider personal terms that would wreck their pay structure and risk alienating key players like Mario Goetze and Marco Reus, who are o ...

Borussia Dortmund have dismissed a report striker Robert Lewandowski is set to leave the German champions at the end of the season, with Manchester City as a likely destination. Lewandowski, who has also been linked to City's rivals United, has a contract with Dortmund until June 2014 and reports in Germany claimed the Premier League champions were prepared to offer striker Edin Dzeko in exchange for the Pole this summer. The 24-year-old has struck nine goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season but his team are way off the pace set by leaders Bayern Munich. "There has been no contact from Manchester City, either about Robert Lewandowski or any other player," said Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke. As exclusively revealed by Goal.com in June, the Premier League champions tried to sign Falcao in the summer and are willing to pay a record fee for the Colombian in the New Year, with Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes attempting to broker the move. A summer move failed to materialise as the club were unable to offload Edin Dzeko despite interest from AC Milan and Bayern Munich, while Carlos Tevez's return to form saw him return to favour under Roberto Mancini. Chelsea are also huge admirers of Falcao, who has scored 42 goals in 53 appearances for Atletico Madrid including a stunning hat-trick against the Blues in his side's Uefa Supercup victory in Monaco last Friday. THE VIEW FROM SPAIN Radamel Falcao's departure is a time-bomb for Atletico Madrid. At this point, it seems a question of when he will leave, rather than if. He is too good for a team that will never be able to fight for a title in Spain and that hasn't been able to qualify for a Champions League in the last years. That doesn't mean that A ...

this headline makes no sense "Bayern Munich could make a £20m bd for Manchester City flop Edin Dzeko, with Thomas Muller heading the other way (Sun on Sunday)" Dzeko a FLOP? 1. Dzeko was astounding at MC, he lost minutes when Balotelli started pumping goals, then lost more minutes when Tevez finally started playing and not sulking. Four world class strikers (Aguero) talk about an embarrasment of riches. 2. Muller headed the other way? Muller is world class not a throw in for a "flop". 3. When would Muller see the field? Nasri, Milner, Toure, Silva, Barry, de Jong, Pizzaro, Zabeleta. Last time i checked only 11 players are allowed on the field. With this amount of talent MC should be embarrased that the title race came down to the final game. What a waste of resources.
