By Christoph Kockeis Former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft feels it would be wrong to compare new Real Madrid signing Martin Odegaard to Barcelona star Lionel Messi and has warned that the 16-year-old should be given time to develop. The youngster is regarded as one of the most exciting talents around and Madrid beat off stiff competition from clubs such as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool and Ajax for Odegaard's signature. The attacking midfielder has even been compared to Messi by some due to his style of play, but Fjortoft has moved to downplay expectations following his compatriot's transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu this January. "Comparing Odegaard to Messi is nonsense from the media. Messi is a player who can make the difference and Martin can do the same, but any comparisons should not be taken seriously," Fjortoft told Goal at the Snow Football World Cup in Arosa. "Martin is only 16 years old and he should be allowed to behave like someone of his age. He shou ...
Martin Odegaard: The lowdown on Europe's next wonderkid. Martin Odegaard only turned 16 last month but is being coveted by some of the biggest clubs in the world. Likened to Lionel Messi and a left-footed attacker like the Barcelona superstar, the 5ft 9.5in Norwegian has been wooed by the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent weeks. While we wait to learn who has won the race for the talented teenager, here are 10 things you may not know about him: 1. A sensation from the start Odegaard was just 15 years and 117 days when he was given his league debut against Aaelsund in April. Odegaard marked his debut beating a handful of defenders before passing to team-mate Thomas Sorum to score. 2. The first goal Odegaard eventually scored his first senior goal a month after his debut. It was a cultured finish from just outside the penalty area against Sarpsborg. 3. Fifa 15 mad Liverpool fan Born in the Norwegian city of Drammen, Odegaard is a massive Liverpool fan. 4. Fan gets Borussia Dortmund-branded toaster for Christmas, it makes Bayern Munich toast -
David Luiz has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain are not afraid of Real Madrid or anyone else who they might be drawn against in the last 16 of the Champions League. A 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday ensured that Laurent Blanc's men finished second in Group F, meaning they are not seeded for the next stage of the competition. As a result, their potential opponents in the last 16 are holders Real Madrid, last season's runners-up Atletico Madrid, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Porto. David Luiz does not fear being drawn against one of the European heavyweights and insists that PSG must be prepared to go toe-to-toe with the best if they want to win their first-ever Champions League title in 2014-15. "We could play against Real Madrid or we could play against another team - either way, all that qualified are great teams with great squads of players and we are prepared to face them all," the centre-back, 27, told Goal after the clash at Camp ...
The Champions League group stage is concluded. The identity of the 16 teams destined for the knockout rounds is now known. Champions Real Madrid are safely through along with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid but there was no such luck for Athletic Bilbao. Liverpool, among England's teams, were eliminated while Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City go forward. German Clubs achieved a clean qualification sweep with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen all going through. Serie A is represented only by Juventus while French Ligue 1 sides PSG and Monaco are also in the pot. Rounding things out are Basel, Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Arsene Wenger: HERE IS MY TEAM ANALYSE IT! Under fire Arsenal boss took the unusual step of naming his starting eleven against Galatasaray yesterday. The Gunners who have already qualified to the last 16 of the Champions League face the Turkish giants in Instabul tonight. Wenger, in a rather casual manner, despite the fight of topping the group with Borussia Dortmund being at stake named his starting 11 in advance giving Galatasaray chance to analyse it fully. If Arsenal finish second in the group a tough last 16 date against the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG will be looming. The Arsenal side: Szczesny; Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Bellerin; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Flamini, Ramsey; Campbell, Sanogo, Podolski. Subs: Martinez, Akpom, Zelalem, Kamara, O'Connor, Iwobi, Maitland-Niles. Stars Alexis Sanchez, Danny Mensah Welbeck and Olivier Giroud have been rested.

Mirror: Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus set to snub Manchester City and stay in Germany
The City offers 13 million a year to Marco Reus, according to Bild The star of Borussia Dortmund has a buyout clause of 25 million euros contract until June 2016. Bayern and Real Madrid are also meant to you. The German international Marco Reus is a target for Manchester City, according to the newspaper "Bild", had offered to Borussia Dortmund player a salary of 13 million euros a year. Reus can leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of this season in exchange for payment of a termination clause of 25 million euros. Bayern Munich until now was considered the favorite in the race for Reus although his name has also been frequently associated with the Barcelona and Real Madrid. Economically, the offer of the City may be above where Bayern are the highest paid players Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger having an estimated 12 million a year salary. However, it is possible that in making its decision the player also consider various other economic factors as it did and does in 2012 when, being ...

Goncalo Guedes The 17-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Europa League finalists, but is already reportedly being tracked by a number of Europe’s top sides, including AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. ROBBEN : THERE IS NO CHANCE I WILL LEAVE BAYERN Arjen Robben has waxed lyrical about life at Bayern Munich and insists he is not considering a move away from the Bavarian giants. The Netherlands international moved to Bayern from Real Madrid in 2009 and has enjoyed a trophy-laden stint in Germany. Robben has picked up three Bundesliga titles, as well as winning the Uefa Champions League in 2013, scoring the all- important goal in the 2-1 final victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. There was talk in the close-season that Robben would move to Manchester United to be reunited with Louis Van Gaal - who he worked under at Bayern and with the national team - but the 30-year-old's glowing description of life in Munich means any such move in the future seems unlikely. "I am enjoying it so much over here," he told The Telegraph. "It is the perfect club with the perfect manager for me. My family is happy, we have lived here for five years and I am exactly at the place I want to be. "It cannot be better than it ...

FIFA 15 will be released throughout the world over the course of this week, once again limiting the social lives of millions to expletive-laced tirades aimed at friends and strangers alike. Of course, those initial moments playing the new edition of FIFA are always special for every gamer and many will already know what they'll do first before they even buy the game. This largely depends on which club the gamer supports. The following is a sampling of likely first actions in FIFA 15 for various fanbases. Barcelona — Start Luis Suarez and laugh defiantly at FIFA's inability to enforce their real-life punishments in their own video game. Chelsea — Remove Frank Lampard from Man City's roster and then cry because you know it's already too late. Manchester United — Put Cristiano Ronaldo back on the team and then satisfy the overwhelming urge to pleasure yourself before even playing a match (against MK Dons on the easiest difficulty setting). Borussia Dortmund — Attempt to delete Bayern Munich from the ...

Borussia Dortmund v Arsenal - Preview. THE QUOTE "I have a great respect for Jurgen Klopp. He rose up very quickly in his career and he's brought some great impulses to Dortmund. What does he do better than me? I don't know - maybe a lot of things! I love to see his team play. They play a very attractive, dynamic type of football and I like it." - Arsène Wenger THE SET-UP There was a carefree atmosphere at Arsène Wenger's press conference in Dortmund on Monday evening. No wonder - in a country still enjoying the afterglow of World Cup glory, this was a chance for German journalists to talk to a German-speaking manager about a squad sprinkled with German stars. But behind the playfulness there was a clear message: Arsenal face the toughest of starts to this Champions League group stage. With due respect to Anderlecht and Galatasaray - and a potentially perilous group finale in Istanbul in December - Dortmund away is up there with the toughest assignments in European football. Wenger and his players don't ...

By Henry Winter, Football Correspondent Chelsea and Liverpool should progress confidently to the knockout stages of the Champions League, Arsenal will believe they can follow despite a couple of daunting away assignments while Manchester City were given their usual assault course but should still survive. All in all, the Champions League group-stage draw could have been worse for the Premier League quartet, although the number of Anglo-German reunions was almost surreal. Arsenal v Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City v Bayern Munich and Chelsea against Schalke: so we meet again. While Liverpool fans were looking forward to the glamour visit of Real Madrid at Anfield on Oct 22, although probably not the thought of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale taking it in turns to run at Glen Johnson, City were facing up to a brutal draw, including that reacquaintance with Bayern. The champions of England must curse a former Liverpool striker, Karlheinz Riedle, as well as unforgiving coefficients, for involvement in a d ...

The 21-year-old, who headed to the Allianz Arena in 2013 after making his name at Borussia Dortmund, has grown tired of sitting on the bench at the Bavarian giants, as noted in a recent interview with German media, via Metro: "Of course I'm not happy," Goetze said. Borussia Dortmund chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has confirmed Marco Reus will not be leaving the club this summer. The 25-year-old has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool and even FC Barcelona, with his agent claiming many top clubs are after the German international. "We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave," he told Kicker. "Marco will play with us next season. Recent contract talks between Dortmund and Reus have reportedly broken down, but Watzke remains confident to ty the BVB’s Player of the Season longer to the club. "There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal,” he added. Reus, who joined Dortmund for around €17 million in 2012, reportedly has a €35 million buyout clause in his contract until 2017. However, the clause can only be activated next summer.

The 28-year-old has been brought in to replace Spain forward Diego Costa, who sealed a move to English Premier League club Chelsea last week. Mandzukic, who has signed a four-year contract with his new club, was considered surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich following the arrival of forward Robert Lewandowski from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund. He had spent two years with the German Champions, scoring 33 goals in 54 Bundesliga appearances. He also netted the opener against Dortmund in the 2013 Champions League final, which Bayern won 2-1.

Everything you need to know about Mario Goetze, Germany's World Cup final hero Though supremely talented, Mario Gotze was not the star of a German team packed with talent until he made himself the hero by scoring the World Cup final's only goal deep into extra time. Gotze did not play at all in Germany's 7-1 domination of Brazil in the semifinals and only made a seven-minute cameo at the end of their quarterfinal win over France. He was once again out of the starting lineup for the final, and wasn't brought on until the 88th minute, but that ended up suiting him just fine. Here's everything you need to know about the man who sealed Germany's fourth World Cup title... -Still just 22 years old, Gotze made a contentious €37 million ($50 million) move from boyhood club Borussia Dortmund to rival Bayern Munich last summer. This was seen as an unforgivable betrayal by Dortmund fans and since the deal was announced two months before the end of the season, they had ample time to let him know it. One banner read ...

Man United Step-Up Pursuit of £20m German International Old Trafford side very keen on Borussia Dortmund defensive rock. Man United are to step-up their interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels with the Daily Star claiming incoming boss Louis Van Gaal is very keen on the £20m rated centre-back. The Premier League side are apparently keen to ascertain whether the German international would be interested in a move to Old Trafford before registering a bid, therefore avoiding the embarrassment of possible rejection. Van Gaal will have to repair a back-line that has seen veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic bid an emotional farewell and it makes good sense to target 25 year old Hummels, however the reported 'last offer' of £20m is likely to get short shrift from the Westfalenstadion side. Jurgen Klopp would be loathed to lose another of his star performers, with Robert Lewandowski having followed Mario Gotze to domestic rivals Bayern Munich, and frankly £20m just isn't a tempting offer for a ...
(Isaac Intro, I know who you mean now!) Who should Liverpool sign? Marco Reus, without a second of doubt. Marco Reus Goals Scored The German was absolutely fantastic for Borussia Dortmund last season. He made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals and creating 90 chances. Just one player at Dortmund scored more than him – Robert Lewandowski with 20 – and only Max Kruse (97) created more chances than him in the German league. Marco Reus Created 90 Chances, 13 Assist The forward was ranked fifth in Europe’s top leagues for chances created and made three more than Suarez did at Liverpool. The German midfielder, who missed the World Cup with an injury in a warm-up game just prior to the tournament, also assisted 13 goals with only Angel Di Maria (17) assisting more in Europe’s best leagues. Reus was Dortmund’s most impressive player last season and remained consistent throughout the entire campaign. He finished the season top of their Performance Score chart with 1032 points – the onl ...
Chelsea offered striker for £15million Emmanuel Emenike could become a Chelsea player this Summer Chelsea have reportedly been offered Emmanuel Emenike by Turkish side Fenerbache for as little as £15million. The Blues are still on the lookout for a new striker, despite signing Atletico Madrid man Diego Costa for £32m, but boss Jose Mourinho, is still keen on adding a partner for Costa, as he still doesn't trust Demba Ba or Fernando Torres. The 27-year-old had an impressive World Cup with Nigeria, who were narrowly defeated last night against France, and also scored 11 goals in 27 appearances for club last season, and he has now been offered to the Premier League side for just £15m. Chelsea, who are also monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic, could be interested in signing the Nigerian on the cheap and it's believed the two teams will discuss further.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal for Bayern Munich star midfielder Toni Kroos for £20million. Reports suggest that United had already agreed the fee pertaining to the transfer under the reign of former manager David Moyes and his Dutch successor has given a go ahead for the transfer. Kroos, who has formerly played under Van Gaal is keen to reunite with him. The German midfielder's contract runs out once the next season ends and Bayern would not be keen to offload a prized possession on a Bosman transfer. Bayern Munich and Toni Kroos have been locked in a struggle to agree a new deal for a while with no side looking to budge. Kroos had earlier stated that a lack of Champions League football would not worry him if he was looking to leave Germany. Sources say that Louis Van Gaal is now eyeing a big money move for Dutch winger Arjen Robben. Southampton full-back Luke Shaw and Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels are also believed to be on Van Gaal' s shopping list, as he undertakes the . ...
T R A N S F E R N E W S 1. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is sizing up a big money move for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus as he seeks to strengthen his Gunners attack. CaughtOffside understands that Wenger has been tracking the 25 year old German international for the best part of a year and has been given the backing of his Emirates Stadium money-men to make a club record £45m (€55m) bid for the former Borussia Monchengladbach star. 2. Julian Draxler (Schalke to Arsenal) Estimated cost: £37m Arsene Wenger failed in his attempt to land the German international midfielder in January but we think that the Gunners boss will move again for the 20 year old this summer. 3. Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich to Arsenal) Estimated cost: £25m Arsene Wenger needs strong striking options to either support overworked French Olivier Giroud or indeed replace the Gunners man and Mandzukic has been impressive over the course of two seasons at Bayern Munich and is an improvement on the somewhat static Arsenal man. 48 ...
1 Luke Shaw - Southampton, price £30m The 18-year-old left-back brings blistering pace, attacking threat and a rawness that should thrill the Old Trafford crowd. And at the prospective fee, Shaw represents a bargain and coup because if fitness and contentment are retained the club may acquire a top-drawer performer for the next 15 years. 2 Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund, £25m-30m Louis Van Gaal hopes to do much of his shopping in the Bundesliga and in Hummels the Dutchman sees a 25-year-old Germany central defender who can help fill the void left by the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. 3 Toni Kroos – Bayern Munich, £30mThe 24-year-old can operate in box-to-box mode, as a No10, or in more metronomic style, prompting the attack from deep: all of which is why Van Gaal and United have identified him as a solution to the perennial issue of the club’s central midfield deficit. 4 Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich, £30m The trusted lieutenant in Van Gaal’s Holland team (alongside Robin va ...

Recently, Eto'o called Mourinho a 'fool'. And cry baby Yaya Toure has indicated he feels unappreciated by Man City after the newly crowned English Premier League champions failed to say 'happy birthday' to the Ivory Coast midfielder during a league win celebration party where a 1000 kg cake was devoured by the club's hierarchy. Toure wants to rejoin Barcelona who have appointed former Celta Vigo coach and former Camp Nou star . ...
Manchester United expect Louis Van Gaal to win the Premier League title next season and have given their new manager a £150m transfer fund to rebuild the squad this summer. Holland's current head coach is to be unveiled at Old Trafford in July after he has taken his country to the World Cup and before United's summer tour of the US. Van Gaal has been challenged to win United a 21st title in his first season with the vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, sanctioning a sizeable kitty to pursue targets that include Southampton's Luke Shaw, Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Toni Kroos, and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels. Following the dismal championship defence under Moyes that ended with United in seventh place, Van Gaal is confident he can again make the club serious challengers as the business end of next season is entered, with a Champions League berth the very least required. He said: "It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League. To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the ...

Chelsea have sent “emissaries” to Germany to find out the availability of Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze. The Premier League giants are paying close attention to the German internationals situation as speculation he could be about to quit Munich after failing to make the impact on the side that many expected him too. The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker has started just 20 Bundesliga games in his debut season at the Allianz Arena, scoring 10 and creating eight goals for his teammates. And the SportsDirectNews website claim Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to know if he will be available this summer, as he looks to add some more quality to his side.

Germany Posted on May 18, 2014 by john Bayern beat Dortmund to clinch double(PA) Bayern Munich completed a German Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double to clinch their fourth trophy of the season with an 2-0 extra-time victory over Borussia Dortmund. After the first 0-0 draw in a DFB-Pokal final since 1992, Germany’s top two teams were ultimately separated by goals from Arjen Robben and, right at the final whistle, Thomas Muller in Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Having already clinched the UEFA Super Cup, Fifa Club World Cup and Bundesliga, it was a fourth trophy for Bayern coach Pep Guardiola to crown his first season in charge of the Bavarians. Roman Weidenfeller knew he was in a Cup Final in the fifth minute when he blocked Thomas Muller’s shot with his face as Bayern quickly got into their habitual possession game.

Mr Predictor Hello and welcome to Mr Predictor, the exciting column where I analyse the week’s big football games and provide useful betting tips. The Premier League may have ended, but there is still a huge amount to be decided, with several Cup Finals taking place and of course the dramatic finale to the La Liga title. Will Barcelona spoil Atletico Madrid’s title dreams? Arsenal vs Hull City – Saturday The Gunners are on a run of 6 wins in a row against Hull, with the latest 3-0 win less than a month ago. This is one of the biggest games in the History of Hull City, and they will give everything, but they will be without cup-tied star strike duo of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic, which will limit their attacking options. With experienced players like Podolski, Ozil and Mertesacker, who have all won silverware before, I expect Arsenal to just have the edge, although it will be close. Mr Predictor predicts – Arsenal 2 Hull City 1 - (Long List Coupon selection 1) Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Muni ...

Chelsea could be close to a deal to sign Mario Mandzukic after he was reportedly left out of Bayern Munich's Cup Final squad. Bayern head coach Pep Guardiola is understood to have dropped the Croatian striker in the wake of rumours that he could be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer. German newspaper Bild reported yesterday that Mandzukic could be a Chelsea player within days and today SportBild claim that Guardiola said to Mandzukic: "I wish you every success with your new club." The ex-Barcelona boss - who has never seen eye to eye with Blues boss Jose Mourinho - left the player out of his squad to face Borussia Dortmund in Berlin on Saturday. Guardiola has told the press that there's nothing more to it than a tactical decision to use another player but SportBild say they have an inside line at the club. Chelsea are believed to have been in talks with Bayern this week about a possible deal for David Luiz and the Croatian striker's name could well have come up as a makeweight in the proposal or just ...

Jose Mourinho is willing to sell David Luiz to Bayern Munich this summer - the Bundesliga giants have made a €30m bid - but wants to secure the services of Croatia international striker Mario Mandzukic as part of a swap deal. German newspaper Bild say negotiations are already at an advanced stage and that a deal could be wrapped up imminently. Chelsea have been strongly linked with Mandzukic, who was likely to find himself surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund, over recent months - and it seems the 27-year-old could be on his way to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have already struck a £32m deal with Atletico Madrid tor the transfer of Brazil-born Spain international Diego Costa, but.Mandzukic would be another major coup. Muller’s Bayern team-mate Toni Kroos and Borussia Dortmund pair Mats Hummels and Marco Reus have all been linked with Van Gaal, who will be confirmed as David Moyes’ successor next week. Borussia Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp, has insisted Bayern Munich are still 'the best team in the world' at the moment.
Guardiola: I'll stick by my principles (AFP) Friday 2 May 2014 Share Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has hit back at criticism in the wake of his side's Uefa Champions League humbling at the hands of Real Madrid by saying he will not change his approach. "The team must play according to the ideas of the coach. I am convinced that is the only solution for the club," insisted Guardiola at a press conference on the eve of Saturday's trip to Hamburg on the penultimate weekend of the Bundesliga season. "I didn't come here to change German football culture anymore than that of Bayern. But when I speak to my players on a daily basis I can't talk about ideas in which I don't believe," he added. Bayern did not lose a single Bundesliga game prior to securing the title in record time at the end of March and they still have a German Cup Final to look forward to against Borussia Dortmund on 17 May. However, they were found wanting in a 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League ...
Thax Real Madrid for punishing Bayern Munich. They have paid the price for bullying Borussia Dortmund in Germany. Jurgen Klopp once accused them for viewing Signal Induna Park as their supermarket. Today my boys were fantastic, they made no mistake except a silly foul by Alonso who will not feature in Lisbon. Sergio Ramos went on to score a brace, both fantastic headers from Luka Modriç fantastic corner kick and a set piece from a usually wasteful Angel Di Maria. As usual, CR7 made history from his brace, a neat Gareth Bale assist from a counter attack set by Karim Benzima and them sealed the chapter from a well calculated set piece, just 24 meters from Manuel Nuever. He knew Phillip Lahm and Company will jump higher hence made a thunderous grounder which forced Pep Guardiola to smoothen his mhanza to show END OF THE ROAD FOR THE TITLE DEFENDERS as Neuver watched helplessly the ball crosses the goal line to make it 4 Nil at Alianz Arena... Gentlemen, soccer is really the beautiful game.
Bayern Munchen v Real Madrid // Tip Over 3.5 In this Uefa Champions League second leg semifinal between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Madrid is in great form. They have won their last eight matches, scoring 25 goals and conceding just once. Today’s game is most important of the season for Real Madrid as they seek to reach their first Champions League final in many years, and they are well prepared with star man Cristiano Ronaldo to start after a recent hamstring problem, while Pepe, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale who missed out on the 4-0 thrashing over Osasuna are all fit to feature tonight. On the other hand Bayern Munich are on their worst run of form this season, despite defeating Werder Bremen 5-2 at the weekend this month they suffered three defeats out of their last six games losing to Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and FC Augsburg, also in Champion Leagues they lost at the Allianz Arena to Arsenal and Man City. Tonight they have to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit in order to progress to the ...

German coach Jurgen Klopp heads fans' poll as your choice to be the new Manchester United manager, despite ruling himself out of contention for the job. Following David Moyes's sacking this morning, the Borussia Dortmund boss is the clear early leader in the poll with a towering 50% of the votes cast going to the 46-year-old. Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson is in third place with 10%, behind Dutchman Louis Van Gaal, with 11% of the vote. Though both are well behind Klopp in the voting. Bayern Munich chief Pep Guardiola is next on 9%, tied with United legend Ryan Giggs, who is set to be appointed caretaker boss for the remaining four games of the season.
Ahead of Easter Sunday’s pivotal matchup versus upstart Everton at Goodison Park, which is also manager David Moyes return to his old stomping grounds, Manchester United still stand within Striking Distance of Champions League and Europa qualification. The Red Devils will of course need lots of help from their competitors atop the table in order to qualify for either, and Moyes first-year troubles as manager aside, this is still the same club that dominated Premier League last season and has the wherewithal and purchasing power to return to glory even if this campaign remains at its current plateau. With that in mind United are reportedly considering several options on the transfer market this summer, particularly along midfield and backline. United can especially bank on their previous successes by courting Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus. The 24-year-old has desired a switch to Manchester United as told by former teammate and present-Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze to Express earlier this week. ...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could be pitted against former club Real Madrid in the draw for the semi-finals of the Champions League, which takes place on Friday. Chelsea's dramatic victory over Paris St Germain and Real's narrow aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals earned both a place in the last four of Europe's premier club competition, where they are joined by Barcelona's conquerors Atletico Madrid and holders Bayern Munich, who beat Manchester United. Mourinho, 51, left Madrid in acrimonious circumstances in the summer - having led them to the 2011/12 La Liga title during his three-year reign - to rejoin Chelsea, who he led to two Premier League titles and an FA Cup victory during a successful spell from 2004 to 2007. The Portuguese has faced Real four times in Europe as a manager, all during his time as Porto boss, and has never beaten them, losing three of the matches and drawing the other. However, that draw - 1-1 in Madrid - came in a group game during Porto's run to winning M ...

Moyes’ accidental Kagawa master-stroke and its effect on Bayern Munich Vincent Ralph22 hours ago 30 22 8 0 David Moyes was forced to bring on Shinji Kagawa earlier than expected for Manchester United on Tuesday, but it worked brilliantly. £25 free bet with WINNER: Bet on Man Utd to win Four wins from four matches – that was Shinji Kagawa’s outstanding record against Bayern Munich during his time at Borussia Dortmund. But when the German Champions came to Old Trafford, the Japanese play-maker found himself back on the bench, much to the annoyance of a portion of Manchester United fans. But following an injury to the evergreen Ryan Giggs, Kagawa found his way on to the pitch perhaps earlier than David Moyes would have envisaged, only to have an impact that should not be understated. The sight of Kagawa standing on the side-lines ready to take to the field would have had an unnerving effect on some of those Bayern players who knew what he was capable of. After all, here was the player who had set up g ...
Contenders to replace David Moyes at Manchester United: 1. Juergen Klopp Despite signing a new long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund last year, Juergen Klopp's team appears to be breaking up, with Robert Lewandowski set to follow Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich this summer. With Bayern disappearing over the horizon in the Bundesliga, could Klopp be tempted to move on and take the United job? Has two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League on his CV and his teams also play bold, attacking football. 2. Laurent Blanc A former United player, Laurent Blanc earned managerial experience with Bordeaux and France before taking over at Paris Saint-Germain last summer. PSG are now cruising to the Ligue 1 title, thanks to the backing of wealthy Qatari owners. Prising Blanc from PSG would not be easy, but he has the playing and coaching credentials that would earn instant respect from the Old Trafford squad. 3. Diego Simeone The Argentine is Europe's rising star after transforming the fortunes of Atletico Madrid, ma ...
Bayern Munich sealed their 24th German title in stylish fashion with a comfortable 3-1 win at Hertha Berlin on Tuesday. The Bavarian giants became the first Bundesliga club to win the title in March, defending their title with a record seven matches to spare thanks to goals from Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Franck Ribery. Kroos and Gotze struck within the first 15 minutes, setting the tone in a match that Bayern controlled, and although Adrian Ramos scored a second-half penalty for Hertha, Ribery wrapped up his side's win with a delightful chip from a tight angle 11 minutes from time. Bayern now boast a 25-point lead over nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund, who were held to a goalless draw by third-placed Schalke. Having won the league by 25 points under Jupp Heynckes last term, the champions will now aim to triumph by an even greater margin and their evolution under Pep Guardiola was evident in the German capital. A fluid start from Bayern saw Kroos stroke home from 12 yards following a deflected cross ...
BERLIN (AP) -- Bayern Munich defeated Hertha Berlin 3-1 to become the earliest Bundesliga champion in 51 years of the league on Tuesday, when the defending champion claimed its 24th German title. Toni Kroos scored in the sixth minute and Mario Goetze added a rare header in the 14th. Adrian Ramos pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 66th, but Bayern substitute Franck Ribery settled the issue in the 79th. The result ensures Pep Guardiola's side wraps up the title with seven games to spare in the Spaniard's first season as coach, beating the mark set in last year's record-breaking campaign by one game. It was also Bayern's 19th consecutive win, its 10th consecutive victory away from home, and it stretched its unbeaten run to 52 games. All are Bundesliga records. Second-place Borussia Dortmund failed to overcome Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann and had to settle for a 0-0 draw in the Ruhr derby despite dominating. Dortmund remains one point ahead of Schalke and slips 25 behind Bayern, the first side ...

The Champions League quarter final draw on Friday threw title holders Bayern Munich against arch-rivals Manchester United in one of the most high tension rounds the competition has seen. Nine-time champions Real Madrid earned a revenge meeting with Borussia Dortmund who dumped them out in last year's semi-finals. Four-time winners Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid in an all-Spanish blockbuster while Chelsea tackle Paris Saint-Germain in the battle of Europe's nouveaux riche. Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl called the draw "crazy". "These are the toughest quarter finals in history," said Barcelona's sporting director and former player Andoni Zubizarreta. "These will all be big confrontations." Runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern will relish the chance of again taking on a United side that snatched a 2-1 victory from the jaws of defeat in the 1999 final. The two teams have played each other nine times -- all in European competition -- and Bayern will definitely start this one as favourites. United have had a ...

Manchester United will face an arduous task in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League, having been dealt a match-up against defending champions Bayern Munich. To make matters worse, there will be no chance for a dramatic comeback in front of a voracious Old Trafford crowd, as the Red Devils will play the first leg at home. Their English Premier League rivals Chelsea fared slightly better, as they take on Paris St Germain and their talismanic striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There will also be a rematch of last year’s semi- final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, as Jurgen Klopp’s men will aim to go one better than in the 2012-13 season, where they were beaten 2-1 in the final thanks to a last minute goal from Dutchman Arjen Robben. And finally, there’s an all-Spanish tie between Lionel Messi’s Barcelona and upstarts Atletico Madrid, who, back in La Liga, are currently offering the first real challenge in many years to the domestic duopoly of Barca and Real. This was arguably the stro ...
My prediections: Barcelona v Atletico Madrid ~ This one will be tight, but I think experience will see Barqa through to the final four. Neymar and Messi will score enough goals to cover for Barqa's defensive deficiencies, and Puyol will be leaving it all out on the field in his final campaign. Barqa will win one for the Gipper and go through. Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund ~ Real Madrid will have more problems than people expect. Don't forget; Borussia Dortmund were the Bundesliga champions two seasons ago. They may appear to have faltered since, but a lot of that is due to Bayern Munich playing out of thier minds and destroying the Bundesliga each of the past two seasons. They won't be scared by Real's attack, and may actually grab a home victory. But it won't be enough; I see Real going through, especially after last year's disappointment. Bale will be the difference. Paris St Germain v Chelsea ~ Easily the premier matchup of this stage in the competition. Less than two years removed from their surpris ...

Bayern Munich can win the Bundesliga title next week, with nine games to go, the Bavarians have a 23 points cushion at the top of the table ahead of second place Borussia Dortmund. What do you make of the Bavarian team under coach Pep Guardiola?
WRITTEN BY: Sunday Oliseh The Deloitte World Money Report ranks it as the third-richest club in the world but when you consider its "real" assets and debts to the outside world, it virtually is the richest club in the world. Bayern Munich is Germany's most decorated club and, by far, the club to beat in Germany. Last season it set an unprecedented treble record in Germany, winning the National League and Cup in style. The club crowned that with the European Champions League and most thought it had reached its pinnacle. Next was to be a downward slope. That looked to be the case as it lost the season- opener German Super Cup to rivals Borussia Dortmund, but no way! Ever since, it is yet to lose to any German side, setting and breaking almost every record, and lost its first game in a relatively inconsequential Champions League encounter to Manchester City. Bayern Munich, in December, won the World Club Cup in Morocco and today, three months to the end of the German season, they have practically all but sea ...

Wenger: Rosicky will stay (PA) Monday 24 February 2014 Share Manager Arsene Wenger is "absolutely adamant" midfielder Tomas Rosicky must stay at Arsenal. The Czech playmaker stood in for Mesut Ozil, who was carrying a thigh injury, against Sunderland and was instrumental in the Gunners' 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium, where he scored a well-executed third goal. Rosicky joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in 2006, but has seen his time in London hampered by a string of injuries. The creative midfielder is out of contract in the summer and will turn 34 in October, but Wenger revealed a deal for an extension was close to being announced. "Tomas Rosicky will stay. We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon," the Arsenal boss said. "I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club." Wenger was impressed with Rosicky's contribution to what was an accomplished display on the back of the disappointing midweek Uefa Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. "He is maybe one of the players who ...

Arsenal red card 'killed the game', says boss Arsene Wenger Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes the referee "killed the game" after he sent off goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny during the first leg of their last-16 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich. Nicola Rizzoli showed Szczesny a red card after he tripped Bayern's Arjen Robben in the first half of Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at home to the holders. "The referee made a decision that killed the game," Wenger said. Unbeatable Bayern? Since August 2012 Bayern Munich have won 48 of 55 Bundesliga games, losing just once and scoring 155 times in the process. Their European form has been almost as impressive, winning 16 out of 20 and lifting the trophy last May by beating Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. "Our keeper went for the ball, he touched Robben, who made more of it." Szczesny, 23, looked to have clipped Robben's leg after the Netherlands winger beat the Pole to Toni Kroos's lofted pass. As he left the pitch, the goalkeeper appeared to make a gesture to signal ...

Manchester United boss David Moyes has a transfer warchest of £200 MILLION to sign 'five more Matas' this year. The Sunday Times says Moyes' big spending won't end with the £37.1 million capture of former Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata. Moyes will face a transfer tug of war for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw , who the club want £30million for, with Chelsea. Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos is emerging as a prime target for the United engine room. And other players under consideration are Atletico Madrid youngster Koke, Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, Juventus pair Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal, plus Borussia Dortmund 's Marco Reus.
According to the paper United recognise that their squad is, how you say, a bit bobbins, and are looking to make five more signings of Mata's calibre. They might not come in this transfer window, with most of their business likely to be done in the summer, but if the paper is right then it might be quite some business. The Times claims: 'They are looking for top full-backs on either flank, at least two midfielders and another leading forward. Moves are being considered for Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal of Juventus, Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin, FC Porto's Fernando Reges and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus.' Apparently they're keeping tabs on Glen Johnson's situation at Liverpool, which brings the frankly hilarious prospect of United's fans' reaction if they replace Rafael with him. Elsewhere, The Daily Star Sunday claims United have made a 'big offer' - specifically, worth about £22.5million - for Luke Shaw, and they're now waiting on a response from Southampton ...

With Old Trafford officials fearful of dropping out of the top four, an ambitious transfer trip has been commissioned, with Moyes aiming for more big signings before the transfer window closes. The Manchester United boss has already looked in to the possibility of signing Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich or Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund. Both players have releaseclauses in their contract and Moyes is willing to meet them. He is also maintaining an interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan but doesn't expect to seal all three signings. Friday January 24 2014 Mandzukic open to Juve? By Football Italia staff Bayern Munich chief Franz Beckenbauer confirms Juventus target Mario Mandzukic “can be sold.” The Bianconeri have long been interested in the Croatian centre-forward to strengthen their front line. This evening rumours of a January move are growing, as Mandzukic was only left in the stands for Bayern’s game with Borussia Monchengladbach. Sky Sport Italia claim it was down to his ‘bad attitude’ in training over the last few days and President Beckenbauer fuelled reports of an imminent exit. “We have many players with which to rotate the squad,” he told 11freunde.dr. “Can Mandzukic be sold after Robert Lewandowski signed for Bayern? In truth, yes. Lewandowski’s style is more suited to Pep Guardiola’s style of football, while we also have Thomas Muller and Mario Götze.” Lewandowski won’t actually join Bayern Munich until the summer, as he’ll continue on at Borussia Dortmund for six more months. Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has slammed the outcome of the 2013 Fifa Ballon d'Or and feels Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo did not deserve to win the award as the Portugal international did not collect any trophies last year. Ribery initially reacted calm after last week's Fifa gala in Zurich as he had to settle for third spot in the election behind Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, stating that the prestigious individual award was not one of his goals. However, the Frenchman has now voiced his frustration after all as he believes he should have won the award following his successful 2013 with the Bavarians. "I won everything I could win with Bayern and individually. Ronaldo on the other hand did not win anything," Ribery told AZ. "I am not sad that I missed out, but it does hurt a bit. I deserved to win the Ballon d'Or. "It was clear that Ronaldo would win it. The voting deadline was extended by two weeks. This had never happened before. It wasn't about football. It was a political ...
The return to fitness of a number of key players has Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp still confident of winning silverware this season. Fourth-placed Dortmund will start the second half of the Bundesliga season next week 12 points behind leaders and reigning champions Bayern Munich. What do you make of Jurgen Klopp's new found confidence?
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp said in an interview with German newspaper ‘Bild’ that “Real Madrid would have no chance of competing with Pep Guardiola’s side of Bayern Munich” if the two heavyweights were to meet in a potential match.
Ex-Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes thanked his former club as he beat Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp and retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to the FIFA Coach of the Year Award.
Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has told fans the club will make notable additions in the summer to compensate for the high-profile departure of Robert Lewandowski. • Uersfeld: End of an era? • Buczko: BVB's window plans On Saturday, Bayern Munich confirmed that Lewandowski will be joining them at the end of the season on a free transfer. Questions have been raised about how competitive Dortmund will be after he leaves, with BVB having already lost Mario Goetze to the Bavarians last year and been beaten to the signing of Thiago Alcantara. But Watzke has vowed that funds will be made available to replace Lewandowski, despite Dortmund not receiving a fee for the Poland international. "We must, we want to and we will invest in the summer," he told Sport Bild magazine. "To what extent will remain our secret, though. We're not going to panic about finding a suitable successor to Robert Lewandowski, and we're not going to put ourselves under any pressure." Dortmund spent more heavily t ...
Lewandowski is considering hiring bodyguards on account of d controversy caused by his decision 2 leave Borussia Dortmund 4 Bayern Munich
I Wanted Lewandowski – Wenger Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted he tried to land Poland international Robert Lewandowski, but insists that he was already committed to Bayern Munich some 18 months ago, according to Skysports. Borussia Dortmund striker Lewandowski ended the saga around his future by signing a pre-contract with European champions Bayern at the weekend. READ MORE:
What Lewandowski's move says about the Bundesliga So Robert Lewandowski has finally done what we all expected him to do: signed for Bayern Munich as a free agent, meaning this final half-season with Borussia Dortmund will be his last. There really is no good way to run down your contract, so you leave for no fee and then join your team’s archrival. But the way he’s done it is better than most. He has played hard all season, despite the injuries that have riddled Jurgen Klopp’s squad. And he faced the music head-on with this message on Dortmund’s website in which he said was “going to give everything” until the end of the season, while pleading for continued support. It doesn’t change the fact that the move is absolutely gutting for Dortmund fans, though the fact that it’s been a long time coming may dull the pain somewhat. Still, relative to the Mario Goetze transfer, this one likely hurts a bit less, given that it didn’t come on the eve of a Champions League final and the Polish striker ...

Thomas Muller suspects that Robert Lewandowski's transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich at the end of the season
Arsenal Transfer News: Mario Mandzukic Targeted After Robert Lewandowski Failure Robert Lewandowski's signature would be very welcome at Emirates Stadium right now, so it will pain Arsenal fans to learn details of Arsene Wenger's failed attempts to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker over the past 18 months. However, the Gunners chief will now attempt to bring in the man Lewandowski might eventually replace once his Bayern Munich move comes to fruition, with an approach for Mario Mandzukic hinted at by Wenger.
