It wasn't my fault! It happened quite by accident, really. I couldn't help it. It was the summer of '82, when I joined the Columbia Record & Tape Club. I got my fifteen cassettes for a penny! I was so excited to slip my new Rod Stewart cassette into my bedroom stereo. But what I heard... wasn't Maggie Mae or Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. It started playing Mandy... and I Write the Songs... and Copacabana... and Memories. They had the wrong title on the cassette. Yes, I admit it. I fell in love with Barry Manilow. You know I couldn't tell anyone. My friends wouldn't have understood. But yesterday, when I was flipping stations and the radio started playing "Looks Like We Made It," ohh, how I sang right along and loved EVERY NOTE. So, here's to you, Mr. Manilow, and thank you. Not sure if you wrote the songs that made the WHOLE world sing... but that little 13-year-old girl sure did enjoy them! :)
I have a lot of old music to sell. Need to get rid of it in the next few days. Over 160 cassettes, 30 CDs, and around 50 8-tracks. Everything from Barry Manilow to Black Sabbath. Luciano Pavarotti, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Garth Brooks, Vic Damone, Cher, Elton John, some gospel, some Gregorian chanting music, some guy with a pan flute and more. $75 for all of it, storage cases included.

It’s about time more efforts were made to preserve the history-in-the-making that is contemporary Christian music. A natural tendency in mainstream circles, several artists have recently scored hits by recording cover albums of songs first popularized in the 1940s (Rod Stewart), 50s and 60s (Barry Manilow), and 60s and 70s (Michael McDonald’s Motown albums). Such a practice feeds artists and audiences alike, paying tribute to an inspiring past while rediscovering the music’s relevance today. Now, premier Christian vocal group Avalon gives new voice and a debt of gratitude to various landmark faith-driven songs of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s on its ninth studio project Another Time, Another Place: Timeless Christian Classics. And quite serendipitously, the process has blessed Avalon’s members beyond all expectations they had at the outset. “These are songs that first made us want to do what we’re doing today,” says Greg about their take on the works of Amy Grant (“Thy Word,” “El Sh ...

I've been listening to some of our 70s vintage singers try and get a new lease on life by singing the classic big band songs and ballads from the 30s and 40s. Linda Ronstadt and Barry Manilow, check. They do a great job with the old songs. Carly Simon and Rod Stewart, need to get a day job.

Oh geez. I uncovered a portal to *** .. Or rather I should say one of my music books from highschool..."Tops of the Pops '89" I could learn: Dream You by Roy Orbison, "Dressed for Success" by Roxette. "End of the Innocence", "The first time I loved Forever" (AKA the theme from the tv show "Beauty and the Beast", "Hey bab", "I do", "I'll be there for you" , "Keep each other warm" (Barry Manilow.. My Heart Can't Tell you No (Rod Stewart), "Nick of Time" Bonnie Raitt, Patience 'Guns N' Roses", "Right here Waiting" and "Satisfied" by Richard Marx. "Surrender to Me", the THEME FROM "ALF"!! and 'When you put your heart in it" by Kenny Rogers. All of these are for flute BTW. Think about that when you sleep tonight. Know that I could have memorized any or all of them and might play one when you least expect it. I have looked upon *** and am forever more cursed.

Come in early and sample some of the finest food in the D. Future shows possibly will be Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart tributes.
I was just watching an old programme with Parkinson interviewing David Niven, and it struck me, if you saw them and Marty Feldman all together, they'd look like brothers!! Try it and you'll see! Also, these days, I can hardly tell the difference between Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow!! I'm sure Rod wouldn't be very happy to realise this!!
So ... kinda, sorta accidentally listened to some vintage Barry Manilow. After the shock (and utter dismay) of know all the words, I was warmly enveloped by those key changes ... blob or no blob :-)
I'm watching The Boss on tv and reminiscing about my concert-going days...interested to hear who my friends have seen live. Here's my list: Barry Manilow (more than once, I think. Ahem) Cheap Trick (at NIU) Rod Stewart (front row!) Elton John (several times) Billy Joel Queen (back row!) John (Cougar) Mellencamp Bruce Springsteen Don Henley Stevie Nicks (at Red Rocks-awesome venue!) Neil Diamond Lorain-do you remember the Poplar Creek concert where I couldn't find my car? I can't remember who I was with?
Sing it Bublé. Rod Stewart looks like the love child of Barry Manilow and Tony Bennett.
pretty sure Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart are the same person
Rod Stewart looks like a cross between Barry Manilow and Ronnie Wood in his recent ad!
'I always get Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow and Jimmy Saville mixed up' best thing my sisters ever said..
Don't see Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow in the same room these days, do you?

I'm listening to Live365 again of course. Just listened to "Tin Man!" I'm an RB & Soul girl but I think at least half of me is a Rocker. I'm 70% Soft Rock and 30% hard rock. Of course you knew that, right! Barry Manilow, John Denver, the Eagles, Zepplin, Rod Stewart. Oh the list goes on. In the words of the Ojays, "I love music... as long as it's groovin!
Sadly, with Sinatra and now Andy Williams gone, the last purveyors of great singers of great standards left standing are Tony Bennett,85...Jack Jones 75, Vic Damone, 85 and Buddy Greco, 87...Recently, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow recorded this type of music in tribute to Cole Porter, Sinatra, Gershwin Sammy Cahn, Count Basie and Duke Ellington..Thank God for Steven Sondheim, he does'nt swing, but his music is magic. he makes everything feel better.GG
Had a good night went to Genealogy Class at the Zion-Benton Public Library tonight to do some more research on my family tree. Excited got some new books checked out on Wedding Planning/Bridal Consulting from the library, then came home and relaxed in my favorite comfy pink DisneyWorld Wish Upon A Star pajamas, and my awesome sock monkey slippers. Made myself a big bowl of hot macaroni and cheese, and some yummy earl grey tea. Now picked up a good book, and listened to my favorite crooners Al Green,Harry Connick Jr., Frank Sinatra,Barry Manilow,Rod Stewart,Dean Martin,Bing Crosby, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett,Andre Boccelli, Andy Willliams,Michael Feinstein, Josh Groban, and Elvis Presley nothing like a great night with the 14 Crooners!! A little later watching some good ol' childhood movies Now and Then, Gold Diggers The Secret of Bear Mountain,Hollywood Tower of Terror, Little Giants, Wild America, My Girl, and so many great classic movies. End of a long, good night.
Am I the only one who's realized that Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart are the SAME PERSON?
Have to tell this story: Last night at the end of the Rod Stewart concert, everyone was yelling for one more song, these two drunk and (please forgive me for stero typing) REdnecks, ( obvious dragged to the concert by their wives) yell: "Come on Rod, I want to here Copa Cabana!". My friend turns arounds and says: " Dude, that is a Barry Manilow song!". The guy was then like "well *** I new we came on the wrong night". SMH and LMAO
This guy never ceases to surprise. Watch him be like the Rod Stewart or Barry Manilow of Korea...
I can't be the only one who thinks Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart are actually the same person singing different songs.
Just checking out the event calendar at Bridgestone and noticed some great shows coming up... James Taylor, Stevie Nicks& Rod Stewart, and of course the July 28th Barry Manilow show. Sounds like a good time to call Midtown Cafe, reserve dinner and a free shuttle ride! Bring on the night!

I haven't been able to type anything longer than a few words on my computer - until now. Last week my son hired some really nice guys associated with the consignment shop we go to to help me move. In conversation we found out Rod Stewart frequents my favorite restaurant - Banana Boat in Boynton Beach. Robert told us we would never recognize him - FL garb, sunglasses, old hat, regular non-descript car. don't u know I am going to scrutinize every guy I see from now on - I will probably get thrown out of the restaurant for harrassment. Only two singers I would stand in line to hear - Rod Stewart and, OK, youngsters, don't laugh - Barry Manilow. Barry I have seen in concert. Oh, June 22 and 23rd there is a doo *** concert at coconut Grove casino - I love me some doo ***
One of my best friends and I send each other WEIRD pictures of people like Rod Stewart & Barry Manilow to make each other laugh.
Just read this beautiful post on Bob Lefsetz blog from Donna Summer's musical director. "I had the pleasure of working with Donna 1998 - 2005; all of it on keyboards, 4 of them as her pianist, 3 as her musical director. Ahh, the stories... too many to tell, whether it was: - the Rod Stewart impersonator we sent onstage with flowers in El Paso during "Dim All The Lights" (she'd originally written the song for Rod and talked about that every show) that made her freak out and fall off her stool laughing during our 'acoustic' segment, - performing as the 'house band' at Tommy Mottola's wedding reception (before he was legally divorced from Mariah), and having my rig directly in front of a table - at which were seated Joe Pesci, Rhea Perlman, Rosie O'Donnell, Danny DeVito, and Michael Jackson, - me getting to perform with my hero Elton John's band, play his piano, and accompany him and Donna on "Enough Is Enough" for the AIDS Foundation's 2003 benefit at Elton's home, then Barry Manilow get up to join them an ...
I like Barry Manilow. I like Rod Stewart. I like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Alanis Morissette, Elton John, Prince, Christofer Drew, Daft Punk, Fall Out Boy, andGorillaz. I also like NWA, Tupac, Tech N9ne, Wiz Khalifa, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and anyone else that's good. I like Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, and Sly and the Family Stone. I like Hank Williams, HW Jr., Hank III, David Allen Coe, Zac Brown, and any other country artist that has talent? Youknow who else I like? Slipknot, Lamb of God, Pantera, 5FDP, Korn, and everything else Metal. I'm 100% metalhead, but I love every artist I've named andthen some. If your mind is too shallow to accept other forms of music other than metal, or accept that other people like other things, you don't deserve to have music in your life at all. I'm undeniably metal, even while I'm listening to "I Only Have Eyes For You" or "Hail Mary", or whatever else I enjoy listening to. Get over yourself, you close-minded loser.
Sun. is Mother's Day! Tix for Barry Manilow, James Taylor, Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks, & Brad Paisley make great gifts!
