The tiny joys of being a danced to American Bandstand themesong (by Barry Manilow, for God's sake) and, dang, did it feel good.
Listening to Barry Manilow sing American Bandstand and remembering what a fantastic jitterbug my mother could do.
Just hours to go before I see the one and only Barry Manilow in concert! Yes, I said Barry Manilow. I am so excited I can't see straight. I'm going alone, which is just fine so I can dork out by myself. When I asked my darling BF (6'5", played football at USC, favorite bands are The Clash, The Ramones and Wilco) if he'd like to join me, he said, and I quote, "I'd rather be kicked in the balls." For everyone my age and older, admit it, this made you smile and perhaps you're even a bit jealous that I will be rocking out to "Mandy", "Looks Like We Made It", "Can't Smile Without You" and of course, "Copacabana." For those of you in your 20s and 30s, just hit YouTube to find out who he is.

*** Clark, This man was one of my teachers of music per say. He taught me how to love and appreciate all kinds of music. I became a musician first before I was a DJ and producer because I watched this man's show "American Bandstand". I Watched artist's like Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, KC & The Sunshine Band, The Monkees, Madonna etc., etc. live on his show. I was a child when I saw these artist performing and yes, I saw them on a Black & White TV!!! Because of him I never learned or understood the word "Discrimination" in my music. That's why sometimes till this day my kids look at me sideways when they hear me play Led Zepplin, Pavarotti, Barry Manilow, Barbara Striesand, The Temptations, Bach and so on. They don't fully understand why or how I even aquired such a love and respect for music period. But sometime I see my kids wonder about what it must have been to grow up in sucha beautiful time in music. *** Clark and American Bandstand was a part of every Saturday in my life for many years. Even bef . ...
RIP - So sad to hear about *** Clark. I can remember watching American Bandstand every Saturday. Everyone knows the familiar theme song from Bandstand but do you know who wrote the lyrics for that song. That would be Barry Manilow. Now for extra credit, for those older folks. Do you know who wrote the theme song for the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. The writer of the Tonight Show theme song was Paul Anka. Remember him. That show ran for 33 years so that little tune made Anka a very rich man.
