'Did you all know that the John Wayne Film 'Hondo', was made in 3D'. 'Hondo is a Warnercolor 3D Western film made in 1953, starring John Wayne, directed by John Farrow. The screenplay is based on the July 5, 1952 Colliers short story "The Gift of Cochise" by Louis L'Amour. The book Hondo was a novelization of the film also written by L'Amour, and published by Bantam Books in 1953'. Wayne's newly formed production company Batjac purchased the rights to Louis L'Amour's short story "The Gift of Cochise" in 1952, and set Wayne's friend and frequent collaborator James Edward Grant to write the adaptation. L'Amour was given the rights to write the novelization of the film, which became a bestseller after the film's release. The film shoot was scheduled for the summer of 1953 in the Mexican desert state of Chihuahua. Wayne and his producing partner Robert Fellows wanted to shoot the film in the trend-setting 3D format. Warner Brothers supplied the production with the newly developed "All Media Camera," which cou ...
A must read...I urge you today to take time and read... by Og Mandino, Bantam Books, New Yorks, N.Y., 1968 Hafid is a master salesman and a traders; a very wealthy man. He lives in an elegant palace equipped with every possible comfort. One day towards the end of his life, he requests a meeting with Erasmus, his trusted servant and friend. He asks Erasmus how much money is in the treasury and tells him to estimate the worth of his property. It is a large sum. Hafid then directs Erasmus to sell all his possessions in exchange for gold, and alludes to his long practice of distributing half his annual profit to the poor. Now, says the salesman, he wishes to divide all his riches with the most needy, keeping only enough to live out his remaining days in peace. He requests that Erasmus turn over each of his emporiums to the person who manages it, together with a reward of 5,000 talents and bequeaths upon him his palace and warehouse. Though Erasmus can hardly comprehend this , Hafid again orders him to do as h ...
I am very excited about a new book that arrived yesterday. Exit 36 by Robert Farrar Capon. My guess is that most of you, if any, have never heard of this book. It was published in 1975 by Bantam Books. As far as I can tell, his first book, Bed and Board: Plain Talks on Marriage, was published in 1965. Then The Supper of the Lamb in 1970 and The Third Peacock in 1971. If this is true, then Exit 36 is his 4th book. Exit 36 is a fiction book with the themes of sex, death, redemption and forgiveness. Can't wait to dive in. Skip this post if you are not a Capon fan.
Author(s) Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow Country United States Language English Genre(s) Popular science Publisher Bantam Books Publication date September 7, 2010 Media type Print (Hardcover ) Pages 208 ISBN 0-553-80537-1 Preceded by A Briefer History of Time See also: Model-dependent realism The Grand Design is a popular-science book written by physicists Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow and published by Bantam Books in 2010. It argues that invoking God is not necessary to explain the origins of the universe, and that the Big Bang is a consequence of the laws of physics alone. In response to criticism, Hawking has said; "One can't prove that God doesn't exist, but science makes God unnecessary." When pressed on his own religious views by the Channel 4 documentary Genius of Britain , he has clarified that he does not believe in a personal God. The authors of the book point out that a Unified Field Theory (a theory, based on an early model of the universe, proposed by Albert Ein ...

Odd Apocalypse: An Odd Thomas Novel [Hardcover] by Amazon.com An interview with Michael Koryta (The Prophet). MICHAEL: In the new novel, Odd Apocalypse, you write that "between birth and burial, we find ourselves in a comedy of mysteries." That statement could be a guiding light for the Odd series, and perhaps even your work in general of late. Was allowing the laughs to join the darkness a conscious decision? DEAN: Humor began to enter my work as far back as Watchers (1987), and by Lightning (1988), my agent and publisher at that time became alarmed and counseled me that suspense and humor never mix. They were not able to offer a cogent explanation of why the two never mix. One of my favorite films of all time is "North by Northwest," which is tense and funny; so I just kept doing what I was doing. By the time I moved to Bantam Books with Fear Nothing (1998), humor became the binding glue in all of my books except for The Taking, Velocity, The Husband, and Your Heart Belongs to Me. Odd Thomas is ...
Random House/Doubleday/Bantam Books & Nazi's may not have heard of Bertelsmann A.G. but you will have heard of the books published by its many subsidiaries, including Random House, Bantam Books and Doubleday. During Nazi rule, Bertelsmann published propaganda and Nazi literature such as “Sterilization and Euthanasia: A Contribution to Applied Christian Ethics.” They even published works by Will Vesper, who had given a rousing speech at the book-burning in 1933. Random House courted Nazi controversy again in 1997 when they added, “a person who is fanatically dedicated to or seeks to control a specified activity, practice, etc.” to the Webster’s dictionary definition of Nazi, prompting the Anti-Defamation League to say that it “trivializes and denies the murderous intent and actions of the Nazi regime.”

There was a soft step behind her. "Khaleesi." His voice. "Might I speak frankly?" Dany did not turn. She could not bear to look at him just now. If she did, she might well slap him again. Or cry. Or kiss him. And never know which was right and which was wrong and which was madness. "Say what you will, ser." "When Aegon the Dragon stepped ashore in Westeros, the kings of Vale and Rock and Reach did not rush to hand him their crowns. If you mean to sit his Iron Throne, you must win it as he did, with steel and dragonfire. And that will mean blood on your hands before the thing is done." Blood and fire, thought Dany. The words of House Targaryen. She had known them all her life. "The blood of my enemies I will shed gladly. The blood of innocents is another matter..." (MARTIN, George R.R. Doc Savage became known to more contemporary readers when Bantam Books began reprinting the individual magazine novels in 1964, this time with covers by artist James Bama that featured a bronze-haired, bronze-skinned Doc Savage with an exaggerated widows' peak, usually wearing a torn khaki shirt and under the by-line "Kenneth Robeson". The stories were not reprinted in chronological order as originally published, though they did begin with the first adventure, The Man of Bronze. By 1967, Bantam was publishing one a month until 1990, when all 181 original stories (plus an unpublished novel, The Red Spider) had run their course. Author Will Murray produced seven more Doc Savage novels for Bantam Books from Lester Dent's original outlines. Bantam also published a novel by Philip José Farmer, Escape From Loki (1991), which told the story of how Doc in World War I met the men who would become his five comrades.* oc Savage's real name was Clark Savage, Jr. He was a physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, in ...

The author/book below refers to an article written by a criminologist who predicts a “crime storm.” The reasoning of the criminologist is the escalating numbers of crimes, and particularly violent crimes, committed by teenagers. The criminologist alleges murders by teenagers as young as fourteen and fifteen are on the rise. Another article the author alludes to contends that “between 1988 and 1992 Justice Department figures show a 68 percent jump in the number of juveniles charged with murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and forcible rape, with aggravated assault alone up 80 percent.” The reason for this the author alleges is that youth lack the necessary emotional skills to manage their feelings and control their impulsivity.
