Balon Greyjoy

George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series features a massive cast of characters. The series follows three interwoven plotlines: a dynastic war for control of Westeros by several families; the rising threat of the dormant cold supernatural Others dwelling beyond an immense wall of ice on Westeros' northern border; and the ambition of Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter and only remaining heir of a king murdered fifteen years earlier in a rebellion, to return to Westeros with her fire-breathing dragons and take the throne.

I don't count Robb and Balon Greyjoy since those were regional claims, not whole of the Seven Kingdoms level.
And Theon is their hostage, taken after the failed Greyjoy Rebellion to ensure Balon's loyalty

Happy Balon-tine's Day! Romance may be dead, but lucky for House Greyjoy, what is dead may never die.
I've had some fun trying to fit in the characters from ASoIaF into the alignment system of AD&D for some time now. The system may be simplistic, but it's still quite interesting to see where everyone ends up (and then comparing it to what others think). I'm focusing on the time frame of the first two books, simply because that's how far I've read, as well as the TV series. If you're not familiar with the system: here's my take: Lawful Good: Ned Stark, Sansa Stark, Jon Snow, Barristan Selmy, Sam Tarly, Rob Stark, Brienne, Jeor Mormont, Maester Luwin Neutral Good: Deanerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Catelyn Stark, Hodor (???) Chaotic Good: Jaime Lannister, Jorah Mormont, Renly Baratheon, Davos Seaworth, Arya Stark, Oberyn Martell Lawful Neutral: Stannis Baratheon, Alliser Thorne, Grand Maester Pycelle True Neutral: Varys Chaotic Neutral Sandor Clegane, Theon Greyjoy, Khal Drogo, Robert Baratheon, Bronn, Lysa Arryn, Balon Greyjoy, Jaqen H'ghar Lawful Evil: Petyr Baelish, Viserys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister ...
For those interested in what questions were featured at the Game of Thrones theme night: Round One 1. Name the four creatures whose heads appear on the circle in the title card. 2. When Stannis Baratheon threw leeches into the fire containing Gendry’s blood, he speaks the names of three people. Which of the following does he NOT name: Balon Greyjoy, Daenerys Targaryen, Robb Stark, or Joffrey Baratheon? 3. According to Arya’s dancing master Syrio Forel, what is the only things we say to the god of death? 4. Audio clip of Theon exhorting his fellow ironborn to mount a defense. In which structure was that speech delivered? 5. What is King Joffrey’s weapon of choice? He gives Lady Margaery a demonstration in his bed chambers. 6. What is the title of the episode in which the Lannisters ambush and kill members of the Stark family? It shares its name with a well known Lannister song. 7. When King Robert visits the crypt at Winterfell, what item does he place at Lyanna Stark’s tomb? **First question w ...
The order of the leeches (should be important this season): Robb Stark (check), Balon Greyjoy, Joffrey Baratheon. (HR 17)

In the 3 volumes of "Game of Thrones" I've read !! 5 Kings have died : Robert Baratheon, Renly Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon while the 6th, King-beyond-the-Wall, Mance Raydar has been captured .. Lets see what the 4th book has in store for me ;)
Reasons to be on Team Stannis: 1) He has sex with Melisandre. 2) He got Davos' son killed, chopped off his fingers, and threw him in a dungeon; Davos still worships him. 3) He has a disfigured but sweetheart daughter who he is his brutally honest self with still. 4) He is apparently chosen one of the Lord Of Light, R'hllor. 5) He is the first one off the ships into the flaming Blackwater Bay in the attack on King's Landing. 6) He has to be wrestled away screaming from battle at King's Landing despite facing certain death. 7) He acknowledges the Kingslayer as Ser Jaime Lannister a full season and a half before Brienne made it cool. Then he calls him the Kingslayer immediately after. Stannis is the only person in the realm to understand that Jaime is both of those things, not one or the other. 8) He opted not to kill Gendry, who seems like a decent guy. 9) He deployed a shadow assassin to kill his usurper brother. 10) He includes the relatively harmless Balon Greyjoy on his hit list because he caused his re ...
Season 4: Game of Thrones will be awesome! King Joffrey — died during his wedding to Margaery Tyrell, he is poisoned and dies. Cersei blames Tyrion and Sansa, but they didn't do it. Tywin Lannister — Tyrion is blamed for Joffrey's death, but he didn't do that one. He does do this one, though. He kills his own father while the lion lord is in the bathroom. How embarrassing! Shae — Tyrion also kills his *** mistress Shae right before killing his father. Balon Greyjoy — Balon died while crossing a bridge during a storm, leaving the Iron Islands up for grabs, with many potential heirs. Catelyn Stark — gets her throat slit but she is brought back to life by Thoros of Myr. The Hound — Arya leaves him for dead in Saltpans. Ygritte — Jon Snow's special lady friend is killed when the wildlings attack The Wall. Lysa Arryn — Catelyn's sister is killed by Petyr Baelish, aka Littlefinger. SPOILER ALERT!
Game of Thrones S03E10 Recap: "Mhysa" This is the season 3 finale. The whole season peaked last week at the shocking Red Wedding. The purpose of this rather quiet thoughtful finale episode is to show us the aftermath of last week's major event, and to set up the stories (cliffhangers of sorts) to be picked up in the next season. Arya sees Robb's head replaced by the head of his Direwolf. This drives her to commit her first killing in the name of revenge. Theon Greyjoy's twisted tormentor turned out to be Ramsay Snow, the *** son of Roose Bolton, the very guy who drove the knife into Robb's chest. Ramsay sent Theon's "favorite toy" to Balon Greyjoy as a threat. His sister Yara defies her father and sets sail to save her brother. King Joffrey dared to accuse his grandfather Tywin Lannister that he was a coward. Tywin tersely sends Joffrey back to his room. Tyrion tells Tywin that he intends to name Roose Bolton the Warden of the North, until a son of Tyrion and Sansa comes of age. Shae rejects a m ...
Remember in the battle of the five kings . (stannis and Renly Baratheon, Joffrey lannister, Rob stark and Balon Greyjoy)
"There is power in king's blood"- "Balon Greyjoy, Robb Stark, and Joffrey Baratheon."-
Stannis wanted dead by the burning of the three leaches? Robb Stark being the first. Despite watching the episode it did not click until the Red Wedding episode last week and utterly shocking me. in hindsight so many clue's yet wanting Robb, his mother and army to live and get the throne would have been too easy as there is so much more to transpire. Joffrey barratheon and Balon Greyjoy ( Theon's father) being two and three maybe forgone conclusions as we now await there fate. Such an intriguing show with more twists and turns than a knotted Rope. Who know's but tonight's episode being the end to the season makes us wait eagerly for another umpteen months for the next.
"The usurper Robb Stark, the usurper Balon Greyjoy, the usurper Joffrey Baratheon"
After Stannis had conquered the Iron Throne, we're now going to play a little tournament with our enemies as contestants. One gets to live, everybody else dies. FIRST ROUND: Balon Greyjoy - Daario Naharis Tyrion Lannister - Roose Bolton Loras Tyrell - Daenerys Targaryen Jaime Lannister - Walder Frey Margaery Tyrell - Joffrey Baratheon Cercei Lannister - Tywin Lannister Theon Greyjoy - Ramsay Snow Petyr Baelish - Asha Greyjoy In a few minutes you can decide by a poll who will live and who will die.
Baratheon some fourteen years before the events of the first novel. The books' present follows various viewpoint characters spread across different lands as winter approaches. The main story chronicles a power struggle for the Iron Throne of Westeros after King Robert's death in the first book, A Game of Thrones. King Robert's son Joffrey immediately claims the throne with the support of his mother's powerful, immensely wealthy Lannister family. When Lord Eddard Stark, King Robert's "Hand" (chief advisor) finds out Joffrey and his siblings were not sired by Robert, Robert's brothers Stannis and Renly individually lay claim to the throne. Meanwhile, several regions of Westeros seek to return to self-rule: Eddard Stark's eldest son Robb is proclaimed King in the North, while Balon Greyjoy re-establishes an independent Kingdom in his region, the Iron Islands. This so-called War of the Five Kings is in full progress by the middle of the second book, A Clash of Kings, with more people gradually joining the str ...

You know you suck when Balon Greyjoy is beating you.

I was watching The Long Kiss Goodnight, and came across one of those "it's THAT guy!" moments. After a few minutes, I realized it was Balon Greyjoy, King of The Iron Islands.

Q1: Name of the only son Balon Greyjoy has left ~Oberyn The Red Viper

Ramsay: Who are you? Theon: I'm Theon of the house Greyjoy, son of Balon Greyjoy and true heir of the Iron Islands. BOM
Who is taken as a ward at Winterfell to keep Balon Greyjoy from attempting another rebellion?
Theon Greyjoy is the son and heir apparent of Lord, later King, Balon Greyjoy.
Greyjoy Rebellion Eight years after King Robert Baratheon wrested the Iron Throne from the Targaryens, Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands initiated his own rebellion and declared his independence from the Seven Kingdoms. In a failed assault that claimed the life of Balon's heir Rodrik, the Ironmen attacked Seagard. The Ironborn were dealt another blow when the Crown's forces, including Ned Stark, Barristan Selmy, Jorah Mormont and the King himself, launched a siege against Pyke. Balon's second son was killed during this attack, and after his family stronghold was devastated, the Lord of the Iron Islands bent the knee to Robert. As punishment and to ensure there would be no other uprisings, Lord Greyjoy was forced to surrender his only surviving son, Theon (then 8), for Ned Stark to raise as his ward at Winterfell.
