Oldest The 32-year-old has been sidelined by a back injury since a shock fourth-round defeat by Ana Ivanovic at January's Australian Open. She withdrew from this month's Qatar Open and has a wildcard to play in Dubai. Williams won the French and U.S. Open singles titles last year, leading her coach Patrick Mouratoglou to say that this year his charge could become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win a season Grand Slam. Her Melbourne defeat, her first in 26 matches, put paid to that, but Williams's enthusiasm for tennis remains undimmed despite nearly 20 years as a professional. "I just have so much fun on court," said Williams, who became the oldest women's number one when she reclaimed top spot last February. "I feel like I want to keep going."
February 12 2014 Dubai UAE There will be a feast of fantastic tennis talent on show from this coming Saturday as the qualifying rounds take place at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium. Even before play in the main draw gets underway next Monday tennis fans will be able to see several marquee players in action, fighting for a coveted spot in one of the toughest fields assembled outside of the Grand Slams. One of the biggest challengers for a place in the main draw is Canadian teen sensation Eugenie Bouchard who set Melbourne alight as she fought her way to the semi-finals of the recent Australian Open with victory over former world number one Ana Ivanovic. The first player from her country since Carling Bassett-Seguso in 1984 to reach the last four in a Grand Slam, her run was finally ended by eventual champion Li Na, but earned Bouchard the title of the WTA Rising Star of the Month for January. Bouchard is not the only player who made headlines at the y ...

Rohit at Australian Open: Wawrinka a changed man in search of a miracle Sports | Updated today at 03:47 PM By Rohit Brijnath In Melbourne Persist. Sweat. Evolve. Reinvent. If four words define an Open, these might qualify. Here, in a Melbourne January, was further proof that talent cannot stand still, risk must be taken and second chances do exist. Li Na, 31, altered her grip on her serve and her thinking on court. Stan Wawrinka, 28, has laced his game with a sterner aggression and looks a refreshed player. Roger Federer, 32, has healed his body and courted the net and looks relatively sharper. Ana Ivanovic discovered a newer version of self-belief and Dominka Cibulkova has re-found her finest self five years after a French Open semi-final. Change for the athlete, who is a creature of faithful routine, requires faith and warrants courage. Often the technique they use and style they adopt has worked well enough. Yet risk lies at the heart of greatness. Li explained this perfectly when she said, after years ...
Still on a high from having a brilliant time at the Australian Open tennis. Watching it now at home but not as exciting as Rafa, Roger and Djokovic. Looks like it will be won or lost on who makes the least mistakes.Hope Wawrinka wins. More than impressed with the whole experience and seeing Rafa and Roger train and play. Awesome tennis. Got my face painted with RF on one side and Rafa on the other (it was a terrible job but what can you do? I couldn't see what she was doing! I asked for the Rafa Raging Bull logo he wears and I ended up with a huge bull on my face! The RF logo for Roger didn't look great either but everyone knew who I support.) I don't know who to go for in their semi final tomorrow night. By the way, that's Stefan Edberg with Roger, and we saw Rod Laver in the arena each night and didn't realize until I looked at the photos that Todd McKearney was there too, sitting behind Boris Becker who coaches Djokovic. Also saw Ana Ivanovic, Li Na, Grigor Dimitrov, Azarenka, Genie Bouchard, Aggie Raw ...

MELBOURNE, Australia - Eugenie Bouchard is the first Canadian to reach a Grand Slam semifinal in 30 years after a stunning upset of Ana Ivanovic at the Australian Open.
Australian Open: It was a day that favoured the lower seeds in the men’s singles quarterfinals as Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic ousted third seed David Ferrer of Spain, 6-1, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland defeated world number two Serbian Novak Djokovic in five sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7. Meanwhile, 19-year old Eugenie Bouchard of Canada continues her giant slaying as she won against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Again interesting results yesterday from the Australian Open as 19-year old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard wins against Ana Ivanovic. Eugenie, the slight underdog, looked very comfortable in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal playing aggressive and going toe-to-toe with Ana. She had more reserves left in the 3rd set while Ana started making a few more mistakes than usual. The other match a little more as expected - Li Na, easily beating Pennetta, has been getting stronger from match-to-match and looks more than ready for the semis. A little surprised to wake up to the result of Wawrinka beating Djokovic in 5 sets. Going into the match Djokovic was clearly the favorite - the Australian Open champion of the last 3 years with a 25 match Winning Streak in Melbourne and having beat Wawrinka in the past 14 matches. But Wawrinka backed up his great results of the past 15 months. Sounded like the 4 hour battle was an incredible match. In the other men’s match – Berdych, one of Andre’s favorite players to ...

Well done Genie Bouchard on reaching your first major semifinal. We loved having you play Mylan World TeamTennis last year. Good luck to both you and Li Na! I also want to congratulate Ana Ivanovic on a great Australian Open. Keep going for it!
Eugenie Bouchard is the real deal. The 19 year old Canadian from Montreal plays, as if she's played the game for 40 years, and is years in maturity beyond a typical 19 year old - on the tennis court. Minutes ago, she continued her rampage at the Australian Open, this time beating Ana Ivanovic (Wta of Serbia, who beat the "unbeatable" Serena Williams (Wta # 1), Saturday. Look for Eugenie to become the second youngest winner of this Major (Martina Hingis is the youngest - 16 years, 1997), wow!
Congrats to Genie Bouchard, the only Canadian left in the Australian Open to win her quarter final against Ana Ivanovic!!! Good luck in the semis against Li Na
Eugenie Bouchard has become only the second Canadian ever to reach a semifinal at a Grand Slam with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 upset over Ana Ivanovic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Canada's Eugenie Bouchard knocks off 14th-seeded Ana Ivanovic 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the Australian Open semifinals.
Enjoying watching Australian Open on tv. So happy Roger Federer is moving like a 21-year-old and smacking his backhand. Only Maria Sharapova and Milos Raonic have fallen off the bandwagon among my faves. Ana Ivanovic played a game as pretty as she is to beat the top-seed, Serena Williams, who looked invincible up to this point. My other fave, Eugenie Bouchard, the 19-year-old Canadian, has just started playing Ivanovic. So confused who to cheer for. Go Ana! Go Genie! And yes, good luck to Stanislas Wawrinka with his match with Djokovic. Keep pounding those radar-sharp backhands!

Ana Ivanovic comprehensively beat Germany's Annika Beck to set up an intriguing third round clash with home favourite Sam Stosur at the Australian Open. The 2008 French Open champion needed just 56 minutes to sweep past Beck 6-1 6-2 and maintain her excellent recent run of form. Ivanovic arrived in Melbourne on the back of claiming the Auckland Open title and, after seeing off Holland's Kiki Bertens in straight sets in the first round, enjoyed another impressive outing on Wednesday.
On the sports front . . . Sam Stosur (Australian) is through to Australian Open third round (where she will face Ana Ivanovic) after beating Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-0 on Rod Laver Arena! Go Sam!

World Sports News Open task for Ivanovic against Radwanska Serbian fan favourite Ana Ivanovic faces a huge challenge against Polish juggernaut Agnieszka Radwanska as they vie for an Australian Open quarter-final berth on Sunday night. Former world No.1 Ivanovic is the closest thing left to a local hope in the men's or women's singles draws at Melbourne Park after Bernard Tomic's exit on Saturday night, given she has relatives and a healthy supporter base in Melbourne. But her form is not as impressive as that of fourth seed Radwanska, who has won 12 straight matches so far this year, including tournament victories in Auckland and Sydney, all in straight sets. Highlighting the magnitude of Ivanovic's task, Radwanska has also won her past four meetings with the Serb, the past three of those without losing a set. Men's world No.1 Novak Djokovic, on a 17-match Winning Streak at Melbourne Park, can expect his biggest test of the tournament so far when he meets Swiss 15th seed Stanislas Wawrinka on Sunday night ...
World Sports News Ivanovic becomes unofficial Open favourite Australian Open darling Ana Ivanovic has become the adopted local hope after winning the battle of the seeded Serbs. The former finalist, long a favourite in Melbourne, will pick up the mantle dropped by Samantha Stosur after the ninth seed's second-round loss. Stronger and fitter than in past years, Ivanovic continued her dominance over compatriot Jelena Jankovic, extending her record to 8-3 with a 7-5 6-3 victory. The win pits her against Polish fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the fourth round. Ivanovic has relatives who live in the beachside suburb of Mentone and has long had a loyal following at Melbourne Park. And she did not hesitate when asked if she could act as a substitute with no local women's players in the draw. "Thank you for offer, I'd be happy," Ivanovic said. "I think people here are so lovely so I love coming here. It's my favourite Grand Slam. "I'm so happy it's the beginning of the year so I can come even earlier." Jankovi ...
