Assyrian Empire

Assyria, Athura (Aramaic for Assyria), or Aššur (Akkadian for Assyria) was a Semitic Akkadian kingdom, extant as a nation state from the late 25th or early–24th century BC to 605 BC.

Is Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:21-23 speaking of the SAME event? Part Two By: Z'kharYah Yisra'El 2 Kings 16 1: In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. 2: Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of Yahweh his God, like David his father. 3: But he walked in the way of the kings of Yisra'El, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Yisra'El. 4: And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 5: Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Yisra'El came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him. Now, right here, 2 Kings 16 verse 5 is speaking of the same event as Isaiah 7, verse 1. Isaiah 7, verse 1 1: And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of J ...
Tracing Germany’s Roots For centuries, the German people have dominated the heartland of Central Europe. Yet they are a people who know very little about their true origin—or at least refuse to know. (The Germans themselves are responsible for hiding much of this knowledge, just as many tried to hide their past at the end of the Hitler era.) Just as the modern-day Israelites are one family of people from many different tribes, so too are the German people today. They number well over 100 million people worldwide—most of them residing in Germany and Austria. Much was written about the early German tribes that poured into Europe during the first and second centuries A.D., thanks in large part to the Roman historian Tacitus, who lived at that time. Among the most significant of these early German tribes are the Chatti (ancestors of the modern Hessians), Treveri, Tungri, and the Alammanni, to name just a few. Chatti means “to break down by violence; to make afraid or terrify.” The ancestors of this ...

Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of Northeastern Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt. It is one of six civilizations globally to arise independently. Egyptian civilization coalesced around 3150 BC (according to conventional Egyptian chronology) with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh. The history of Ancient Egypt occurred in a series of stable Kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods: the Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age. Egypt reached the pinnacle of its power during the New Kingdom, in the Ramesside period where it rivalled the Hittite Empire, Assyrian Empire and Mitanni Empire, after which it entered a period of slow decline. Egypt was invaded or conquered by a succession of foreign powers (such as the Canaanites/Hyksos, Libyans, Nubians, Assyria, Babyl ...

According to some sources their religion is linked to ancient Zoroastrianism and Sufism while other sources view their religion as a combination of Shia and Sufi Islam with indigenous regional folk traditions. They live primarily in the Nineveh Province of northern Iraq, a region once part of ancient Assyria and capital of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Additional communities in Armenia, Georgia and Syria have been in decline since the 1990s as a result of significant migration to Europe, especially to Germany. "PROPHECY", {The Prophets: Haggai}, by Wayne Blank Haggai, from the Hebrew name pronounced kawg-gaw-hee, meaning festive, was one of three prophets (Zechariah and Malachi are the other two) whose ministries were focused on the time of Judah's return from their seventy-years exile in Babylon. Lost Cities Posted Thursday, 17 April 2014 How images from a spy’s toolkit are helping a Harvard-led team uncover the landscapes and the cultures of the ancient world The Neo-Assyrian kings talked a big game. They had plenty to brag about. In the seventh century BC, the Neo-Assyrian Empire was at the crest of its power. It had conquered lands from the Caucasus to Egypt, and forcibly relocated whole villages from Palestine to northern Mesopotamia. In Niniveh, the world’s largest city, the king Sennacherib, who ruled from 704 to 681 BC, led the development of an elaborate system of irrigation canals that fed the capital’s grandiose gardens. Like his father Sargon II, Sennacherib informed posterity of his achievements by way of inscriptions on the palace walls. “I tore open mountain and valley with iron pick to dig a canal,” he announced, for example. “I made streets and avenues as light as day…” But in his office on the top floor of the Peabody Museum at Harvard, Jason Ur, the John L. Loeb A ...
2 Kings 13-17 Today while reading the scripture, I kept asking myself how this could happen. The ten tribes of Israel are no more. They have been deported to the remotest corners of the Assyrian Empire. In these five chapters I continually see the same phrase; "They did not destroy the high places and continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there." These high places result in breaking the very first commandment God gave them in Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me." These high places are mentioned 117 times in scripture. The practice of idolatry is what the high places mean. It is no wonder God finally had enough of it. The Holy God required their sacrifices and burnt offerings. Not only were they disobedient in the way they lived and the things they did, but the honor to be given to God, was blatantly given to idols. "The power of humans can never reverse the sentence of God"

The "inescapable conclusion"(47) is that the story of Solomon was patterned specifically after the life of Amenhotep III. The name Solomon itself, which literally means "peace" or "safety" points to Amenhotep III whose long and pervasive reign in the 14th Century B.C. did not include any major military campaigns, but was characterized by unprecedented stability throughout the Near East.(48) After the Egyptian 18th Dynasty, the region between the two great rivers was not controlled by a single power again until the Assyrian empire of Ashurbanipal (the grandson of Sennacherib) who invaded Egypt and pillaged Thebes in the 7th Century B.C.,(49) and the 6th Century B.C. empire of Cyrus, who also conquered Egypt and made it a Persian province.(50) There is no evidence of any empire at any time controlling this region whose capital was Jerusalem.(51)
WL4J What's In The Bible Wednesday - Extra Information about the Book of II Kings The history of both Israel and Judah was much affected by the prophet Elisha’s ministry. He served Israel for 50 years, fighting the idolatry of its kings and calling its people back to God. Following Elisha’s death came a series of evil kings in Israel. Their idolatry and rejection of God caused their down fall. The Assyrian empire captured Samaria and took most of the Israelites into captivity (II Kings 13:20 – 17:41). Judah had a short reprieve because of a few good kings who destroyed idols and worshiped God. But many strayed from God. So Jerusalem fell to the next world power Babylon – II Kings 18:1 – 25:30

If you joining us in reading through Isaiah and Jeremiah today’s reading is Isaiah chapters 12-13. The devotion is taken from chapter 13:17-19. “See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants nor will they look with compassion on children. Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the glory of the Babylonians’ pride, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.” After Babylon defeated the Assyrian Empire in 612 BC they became the dominant power in the Middle East. By 605 BC they had conquered what remained of Judah and Benjamin and now controlled all of the area from Egypt to Pakistan. They were prideful and ruthless when it came to controlling those whom they had conquered. When God judges he does so with the purpose. He judges for particular reason and his judgment always fits the sin. For years the kingdom of Judah and Benjamin had not only relied on themselves but they ...
Jonah and the Whale - Story Summary: The story of Jonah and the Whale, one of the oddest accounts in the Bible, opens with God speaking to Jonah, son of Amittai, commanding him to preach repentance to the city of Nineveh. Jonah found this order unbearable. Not only was Nineveh known for its wickedness, but it was also the capital of the Assyrian empire, one of Israel's fiercest enemies. Jonah, a stubborn fellow, did just the opposite of what he was told. He went down to the seaport of Joppa and booked passage on a ship to Tarshish, heading directly away from Nineveh. The Bible tells us Jonah "ran away from the Lord." In response, God sent a violent storm, which threatened to break the ship to pieces. The terrified crew cast lots, determining that Jonah was responsible for the storm. Jonah told them to throw him overboard. First they tried rowing to shore, but the waves got even higher. Afraid of God, the sailors finally tossed Jonah into the sea, and the water immediately grew calm. The crew made a sacrif ...
Greetings Professor, The name Armageddon implies, “The War of Megiddo”. This is what Moore, B (2014) states about this, “The Bible chronicles the death of Josiah, king of the Jews. It says, ‘In his days Pharaohnechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and King Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo’ (2K 23:29). This battle has prophetic significance. In Revelation John predicts a great battle at the end of the world, which he calls Armageddon (Rev 16:16). Armageddon means ‘mount Megiddo.’ The final conflagration described in the Apocalypse is symbolized in the battle between Josiah and Neco. The Jewish historian Josephus gives more information about the battle at Megiddo. He says, ‘Now Neco, king of Egypt, raised an army and marched to the river Euphrates, in order to fight with the Medes and Babylonians, who had overthrown the dominions of the Assyrians, for he had a desire to reign over Asia.’ 1. Assyria had controlled much of the Mid ...
The Neo-Assyrian Empire was an empire in Mesopotamian history which began in 934 BC and ended in 609 BC.[1] During this period, Assyria assumed a position as the most powerful state on earth, successfully eclipsing Babylonia, Egypt, Urartu/Armenia[2] and Elam for dominance of the Near East, Asia Minor, Caucasus, North Africa and east Mediterranean, though not until the reforms of Tiglath-Pileser III in the 8th century BC
2ND KINGS CHAPTER 22: Living God’s way is the best way to live. All of the ways we can come up with fall very short of His way. His ways and thoughts are not our thoughts. As high as the heavens are above the earth so are His ways higher than our ways. His appointed way for each of us will bring blessing into our lives, cause us to enjoy life to the fullest and demonstrate to those around us how glorious it is to live under the Lord’s leadership. Josiah was a king at 8 years old and is recorded as a king who did what was right in the sight of the Lord like his father David. When Josiah was 26 years old, the Book of the Law was found and read in his presence. He was moved by God’s Word so much that he tore his clothes. Interesting that there were not many copies. Don’t know if it was the Book of Deuteronomy or the first five books of the Bible. It was quite a find though. Manasseh and Amon may have destroyed many of the copies during their reign. The king not only tore his robes but he we ...

In the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq archaeologists have discovered an ancient city called Idu, hidden beneath a mound. Cuneiform inscriptions and works of art reveal the palaces that flourished in the city throughout its history thousands of years ago. Located in a valley on the northern bank of the lower Zab River, the city's remains are now part of a mound created by human occupation called a tell, which rises about 32 feet above the surrounding plain. The earliest remains date back to Neolithic times, when farming first appeared in the Middle East, and a modern-day village called Satu Qala now lies on top of the tell. The city thrived between 3,300 and 2,900 years ago, said Cinzia Pappi, an archaeologist at the Universitt Leipzig in Germany. At the start of this period, the city was under the control of the Assyrian Empire and was used to administer the surrounding territory. Later on, as the empire declined, the city gained its independence and became the center of a kingdom that lasted for about ...

THE IMPORTANCE OF SPEAKING THE TRUTH, REPRESENTING A HOLY, AND RIGHTEOUS GOD. HOW MUCH TIME DO WE HAVE? TY AL BAKER. Speak The Truth FORGET NONE OF HIS BENEFITS volume 13, number 1, January 2, 2014 Woe to the bloody city, completely full of lies and pillage; her prey never departs, Nahum 3:1. Some one hundred years before, God had shown great mercy to the Ninevites, a wicked people of the Assyrian Empire. Jonah came to the great city, which some scholars have suggested was sixty miles in diameter, to preach a message of judgment, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown," (Jonah 3:4). The Spirit of God came upon all the people, from the King down to the lowliest servant, bringing profound conviction of their sin, leading them to heartfelt repentance. Yahweh relented of His planned judgment. However, some time later, Nineveh went back to her vile and evil ways. They showed no mercy to those peoples they conquered and they conquered many. Their reach was from the Caucasus Mountains (modern day Georg . ...
Isaiah 9:2 (NIV) - The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org Isaiah was speaking to Israel during a very difficult time. They were falling apart as a nation as the Assyrian Empire was attacking and conquering them. It was a very dark time. Yet God was shining a light upon His people and, according to Matthew in the New Testament, that light is for us as well. We need help in the darkness of our lives, and Christ is the light that gives light to every person. Instead of being a celestial Sugar Daddy giving us what we think we need, Jesus Christ is our Savior setting us free from our sin.
Ex31 The fading hopes of the Davidic Kings     Over a century Judah had survived awarded the successful expansion of the Assyrian Empire . Since Ahaz had lost the right to freedom of Judah by a treaty held with Tiglathpileser III , this small kingdom endured crisis after crisis five vassal rulers over Assyria. Treaties, diplomatic maneuvering , endurance, and supernatural intervention had a vital influence on the continued existence of a semi-autonomous government when kings , both wicked and righteous, occupied the Davidic throne. Then, when Assyria was loosening its grip on the nationalist hopes of Judah , those hopes once again arose during the three decades of the reign of Josiah. The abrupt termination of his leadership marked the beginning of the end for the Southern Kingdom . Before they had been 25 years , these hopes began to fade under the growing power of the Babylonian Empire . At 586 , a. C. , the ruins of Jerusalem were a realistic memory of Isaiah 's prediction that the Davidic dynasty wo ...
Reposting from Ate Marite Castro: "Reasons to Pray for Syria - I came across these facts about 2 years ago and was blown away that Syria actually became a Christian country in 265 AD and how they need our prayers urgently because of this latest genocide. - Syria was part of the Assyrian Empire. - The Assyrian empire collapsed in 612 B.C. The Assyrian people survived the loss of their state, and they remained mostly inconspicuous for the next 600 years. - Assyrians continued living in their homeland throughout this dark age, until that momentous moment in human history, when the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, gave himself for the salvation of mankind. Very soon after the crucifixion, the bulk of the Assyrian population converted to Christianity, although there remained to be Ashurites, until 256 A.D. It was the Apostle Thomas, with Thaddeus and Bartholomew who came to the Assyrian city of Edessa and founded the Assyrian Church of the East, the first and oldest church in the world. - Syria became a Christia ...

What Kind of Waiting Attitude Do You Have?IN TODAY’S world, few people enjoy waiting for someone or something. It tests their patience. The Scriptures, however, encourage God’s people to cultivate “a waiting attitude.” In contrast with the people around him, the prophet Micah declared: “I will show a waiting attitude for the God of my salvation.”—Micah 7:7; Lamentations 3:26.What, though, does it mean to wait for Jehovah? How should a Christian wait for God? Are there proper and improper ways to do this? The experience of the prophet Jonah of the ninth century B.C.E. provides a lesson on the matter.A Case of Misguided WaitingJehovah God directed Jonah to go and preach to the people of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire. Nineveh was known as “the city of bloodshed” because of its brazen brutality and cruelty, a fact well attested to by historians and archaeologists. (Nahum 3:1) Jonah initially tried to avoid this assignment, but Jehovah made sure that the prophet eventually went ...
Likewise archeology has unearthed enormous life-sized sculptures of lions at Babylon, most notably the great winged and human-headed lion from the palace of Assur-Nazir-Pal for as the prophecy says in describing what is traditionally understood to be the transmission of power from the Assyrian Empire to Babylon the eagle winged lion has its wings plucked off and is made to stand upon its feet as a man and a man ‘s heart is given it. This may refer to the more civilized and less savage regime of the Babylonians compared to their predecessors the Assyrians although both powers are depicted as lions ravaging Israel in Jeremiah 50:17 but of course the image has been retained within the imagery of Roman Catholicism showing it to be a continuation of the Assyrio-Babylonian power in its political and religious outlook as I have already shown above so for example we have the image of the winged lion significantly sketched upon the 1963 Catholic Encyclical entitled “Peace on Earth” (Pacem in Terris), such sa ...
Gloria Hughes: These 10 Bible prophecies were fulfilled after 1948, when Israel became an independent country for the second time in history. These prophecies foretold of modern Israel's stunning military victories and of its transition from a desert wasteland to a prosperous nation. 1. Israel will prevail over its enemies Bible passage: Isaiah 41:12-14 Written: perhaps between 701-681 BC Fulfilled: late 1900s. In Isaiah 41:12-14, the prophet said God would help Israel during times of conflict with enemies (if the people have faith in God). Isaiah said this during a time when the northern kingdom of Israel had already been conquered by the Assyrian Empire. And the southern kingdom, Judah, was about to be conquered by Babylon. (The Bible explains that Israel and Judah lost their independence because so many of the residents had turned to false religions). But, since 1948 when Israel was re-established, Israel has been attacked by much-larger countries. And Israel has prevailed in each of those attacks. Thi ...
Rejoicing in the God of True Worship“Happy is the nation whose God is Jehovah, the people whom he has chosen as his inheritance. For in him our heart rejoices; for in his holy name we have put our trust.”—Ps. 33:12, 21.LET us turn back the pages of history some 2,700 years. Nearly three millenniums! someone exclaims. What in that day and age could interest us moderns of this smart twentieth century? There is really much to interest us. For the critical world situation of today, with its fearful possibilities, finds a striking parallel in the threat that the ancient Assyrian Empire posed to all other nations in that heyday of its power. Heated emotions of nationalism rose to the boiling point. And in this nuclear age, radical, dictatorial powers are again whipping the earth into a ferment of nationalistic disunity. Thus the same question now comes to the fore as in the day of the proud Assyrian: Who may successfully meet the challenge of nationalism, and survive?2 It was in the eighth century B.C.E. ...

How can we apply what is seen here to our understanding of last-day events? - - The prophecy of Nahum is God’s Word against the kingdoms of this world as represented by Nineveh. As the prophet looked at his world, he saw the hand of God moving against the Assyrian Empire. He announced that its capital city, Nineveh, would soon fall, never to rise again. Nahum spoke with absolute confidence because he knew God’s character and, through the gift of prophecy (Nah. 1:1), he had been shown by the Lord what would happen. The Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished (Nah. 1:3, Exod. 34:6-7). The Assyrians had plundered many nations and had an insatiable lust for power. Their cruelty was notorious. As God’s “razor” (Isa. 7:20), they eagerly had shorn their neighbors. Now it was time for the razor to be broken. Instruments of God’s judgment are not exempt from judgment. Nineveh exists ...
May 12, 2013 Isaiah 21:6-10 WHERE ARE THE WATCHMEN? Introduction: Theyear is 689 BC and the world is in turmoil. The Babylonian Empire is underattack by the Assyrian Empire. All of the nations in that area “hoped againsthope” that Babylon would be able to defeat the Assyrian aggressors to theirnorth. However, it was not to be! Babylon fell to the Assyrians and everyoneknew they would not be stopped until the entire region was under theirdomination.       Against this backdrop of war and a certainattack upon the nation of Israel, God commands the prophet Isaiah to assume therole of a watchman, meaning, Isaiah is to look to the prophetic future and tellthe people what he sees approaching. This is just what Isaiah does in our text. And (as usual) when a preacher starts “meddling”, then trouble is sure tofollow.       This message might have been given nearly2,700 years ago, but it is as timely as today’s headlines. War rages in ourworld today. People are losing their lives by the thousands ...
History Fact of the Day# 1 These are the pyramids in the Ancient city of Moroe of the Nubian/ Kush/ Ethiopian Empire. It was one of the Nile Valley's great civilizations to the South that has rarely been told. Nubia and Kemet( Egypt) were both highly advanced societies. Their are more pyramids in Nubia( Modern Day Sudan) then there are in all of Kemet(Eygpt). Their was even a time during Kemet's 25th Dynasty when their throne was ruled by Nubian Pharaohs. One greatly known King was the pharaoh Taharqa. He was so great his empire streatch all the way to the Assyrian Empire then ruled by King Nebuchadnezzar. It was even mention in the bible in 2 Kings 19:9 and in Isaiah 37:9. They both speak of King Tirhakah( they used Hebrew Spelling but it is the same person) from Ethiopia( The Nubian Empire was known under many names. Its own people refered to it as Ta- Seti which means "Land of the Bow". Nubians were know for their archery).
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK:THE ANTI-CHRIST WILL USURP The position of the pope controlling all Babylon religions Rev chap 17."He will usurp the position of Christ and be the "false messiah" to the Jews and a super prince to the muslims. His coming is soon, all the strange planetary conjunction and lineups allude to this as well as the coming of Halley's comet! watch-Fire works lay directly ahead for the nations. It also reveals to us that Jesus return is very soon. But what else does the scriptures reveals about Anti-Christ?It reveals some Gentile blood, too. There are some well kept secrets in the old Testament concerning his rise.Isa 14:2-4 calls him the King of Babylon and reveals what he does to the earth(verse 16-19)And yet in verse 25 the Lord reveals him as the Assyrian ! verse 26, reveals this is Gods purpose. How can this be? Well, because ancient Babylon took over the Assyrian Empire and it became part of northern Babylon. So it reveals that he is an absolute mixture, but being dominant from the Assyrian l ...
PROPHETIC TRENDS: ISRAEL-GOD'S TIMEPIECE .THE LORD CONTINUES TO BRING THEM HOME. The 13 Bnei Menashe families who recently arrived in Israel, and the more than 7,000 members of this Israelite tribe still waiting in India for their turn, have been on a long and eventful 2,700-year journey in exile. The story of the Bnei Menashe begins in 732 BCE, when the Assyrian Empire began to take captive the tribe of Menashe and other Israelite tribes and resettle them in what is today Iraq and Iran. The Bible writes that they were placed “in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.” (2 Kings 17:6; 1 Chronicles 5:26) There they remained until about the time of the conquest of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE, according to 1st Chronicles and other sources. When Alexander started to conquer Persia, the Bnei Menashe fled to the north and then to the east to avoid being enslaved by the Greeks. Legend has it that they journeyed along the Silk Road and eventually ended up in China, forming ...
The Assyrians of today are the indigenous Aramaic-speaking descendants of the ancient Assyrian people, one of the earliest civilizations emerging in the Middle East, and have a history spanning over 6750 years. Assyrians are not Arabian, we are not Kurdish, our religion is not Islam. The Assyrians are Christian, with our own unique language, culture and heritage Ancient Assyrians were inhabitants of one the world's earliest civilizations, Mesopotamia, which began to emerge around 3500 B.C. The Assyrians invented the world's first written language and the 360-degree circle, established Hammurabi's code of law, and are credited with many other military, artistic, and architectural achievements. For 300 years Assyrians controlled the entire Fertile Crescent, from the Persian Gulf to Egypt. In 612 B.C., however, Assyria's capital, Nineveh, was besieged and destroyed by a coalition of Medes, Scythians, and Chaldeans, decimating the previously powerful Assyrian Empire. The Assyrians are believed to have descend ...
Israel and Judah were related Iron Age kingdoms of the ancient Levant. The Kingdom of Israel emerged as an important local power by the 9th century BCE before falling to the Neo-Assyrian Empire in 722 BCE. Israel's southern neighbor, the Kingdom of Judah, emerged in the 8th century[1] and enjoyed a ...
YHWH warned that anyone who persecute the Jews will be punished. And indeed they have been. Among those who have persecuted "the Jews" and been punished for it were the great Assyrian Empire, the neo-Babylonian Empire, the Phoenician Empire, the Roman Empire, the powerful Nazi empire and the powerful Soviet Union. All of these empires have been destroyed. And yet, the Jews are still a nation. Why? Because YHWH made this promise to the Jews in Genesis 12:2-3 - "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." YHWH keeps His promises. And, the Jews are living proof of that.

Occupation: Monarch Claim to Fame: Destroyed the temple of Solomon and started the Babylonian Captivity of the Jews. King Nebuchadnezzar II was the son of Nabopolassar (Belesys, to Hellenistic writers), who came from the Marduk-worshiping Kaldu tribes living in the extreme southern part of Babylonia. Nabopolassar started the Chaldean period (626-539 B.C.) by restoring Babylonian independence, following the fall of the Assyrian Empire in 605. Nebuchadnezzar was the most famous and important king of the Second Babylonian (or Neo-Babylonian or Chaldean) Empire, which fell to the Persian great king Cyrus the Great in 539 B.C.
I think I understand how he made this mistake. He's too busy looking at old Mormon temple maps of the region and has confused Syria with the Assyrian Empire, Iran with teh Persian Empire, and "The Sea" with the aegean, which is the only water you can see in a map of the Middle East that's a close up of phoenicia, i mean canaan, I mean philisti, i mean assyria, I mean judaea, I mean israel, i mean babylon, I mean persia, i mean the seleucid kingdom, the hasmonean kingdom, i mean rome, i mean byzantium, i mean the islamic caliphate, I mean the mamluk caliphate, i mean the Ottoman Empire, I mean the british mandate, I mean Israel...

with the push for democracy to envelope the entire world, feigning to be a benefactor of all people, our present day leaders CAN and most be added to this list; from Rebuilding the Tower of Babel; "Since the time of the Tower of Babel, men have sought the establishment of an all-encompassing world government that would bind all of mankind into one interdependent human community. A very casual study of secular history is witness to this very fact, as world empires have risen and fallen riding the crest of the waves that swept across the massive sands of all of humanity. These world empires were exemplified in the Assyrian Empire, the Egyptian Empire, the Babylonian Empire, the Medo-Persian Empire, the Grecian Empire, and finally the Roman Empire. Additionally, there were other individuals who died trying to emulate the likes of the Pharaohs, Sennacherib, Nebuchadnezzar, Darius, Alexander, and the Caesars. Their names are generally not connected to acts of great benevolence, but they do cover quite a few pa ...
To the Editor: 9-28-2012 2700 years ago, the Assyrian Empire made a living mostly from looting other nations. The nations feared and hated the Assyrians--they were extremely cruel to their victims. Today, the USA is a looter nation. I'm forced by law to pay 1. half of my employee's social security taxes, 2. half my employee's medicare taxes, 3. all of my employee's unemployment taxes, 4. my employee's healthcare (Obamacare), A year ago, Obama reduced my employee's Social Security withholding, but he did not reduce my half of her payroll taxes. So, now I'm paying more for my employee's retirement than she is. The USA is warring against businesses, and buying my employee's vote. If I'm making money or losing, I still must pay my neighbor's taxes. This is incredibly evil. Since Obamacare passed in Congress, my Blue Cross premiums for my family of 4 doubled from 500 to 1000 per month. Obamacare forces me to pay for another family now. The doctors and hospitals increase my healthcare costs, because they give d ...
I've been seeing this around the net recently, Assyrians are not Arabs or Kurds, or Muslim, they are Christians staying around the Caucasus region. My point is, you cannot use today's inhabitants as face value of ancient cultures. Andre Agassi is their favorite example as an Assyrian. Well his mother is Armenian and Assyrian, and father is from Iran (presumably northern Iran near the Caucasus Mountain region, as in India, those in the Northern region of the country have more european features and lighter skin, and those in the southern region have more indo features and darker skin) and he's married to a German, and his kids are going to look more German. Assyrian Empire reached from the Caucasus mountain region to Egypt, Sudan (Nubia), and Ethiopia before Persia conquered their Kingdom. And for those Assyrians who remained in Africa, they merged with the Persian Kingdom, and started taking up more Persian characteristics. And the same trend continued until the Muhammadan Arabs came into Africa and conver ...
Most of the Bible is a history told by people living in lands occupied by conquering superpowers. It is a book written from the underside of power. The majority of the Bible was written by a minority people living under the rule and reign of massive, mighty empires, from the Egyptian Empire to the Babylonian Empire to the Persian Empire to the Assyrian Empire to the Roman Empire. This can make the Bible a very difficult book to understand if you are reading it as a citizen of the the most powerful empire the world has ever seen. Without careful study and reflection, and humility, it may even be possible to miss central themes of the Scriptures.
Mad @ Magazine for not including Assyrian Empire in their Civilization Edition.Seems some wish to forget us,or deliberately want to...
The Ottoman Empire, that massacred 750,000 Assyrians, is on the FRONT COVER. But lacks Assyrian Empire? Magazine, I'm disappointed.
To all the Women... An estimated 600 women served during the American Civil War. They had signed up disguised as men. Hollywood has missed a significant chapter of cultural history here—or is this history ideologically too difficult to deal with? Historians have often struggled to deal with women who do not respect gender distinctions, and nowhere is that distinction more sharply drawn than in the question of armed combat. (Even today, it can cause controversy having a woman on a typical Swedish moose hunt.) But from antiquity to modern times, there are many stories of female warriors, of Amazons. The best known find their way into the history books as warrior queens, rulers as well as leaders. They have been forced to act as any Churchill, Stalin, or Roosevelt: Semiramis from Nineveh, who shaped the Assyrian Empire, and Boudicca, who led one of the bloodiest English revolts against the Roman forces of occupation, to cite just two. Boudicca is honoured with a statue on the Thames at Westminster Bridge, ...
It is difficult to edit a video that is being fulfilled as you are editing... Iraq opens its Syrian borders and rejects Arab League capitulation of western powers. Syria and Iraq comprise the heart of the Assyrian Empire, alongside Lebanon. Each of the three have Sunni majorities but Shia minorities calling the shots...when the northern border with Israel is breached...global destruction buffeted by a false hope from above. Welcome to the rise of "the Assyrian" who "destroys his own land" and then "our cities"...with help from above. Knowing this 15 years ago does not make it any less surreal today. A top Chinese General and 2 Russian Presidents have left it in no uncertain terms as to the fate of any western aggression. Wait to see their confidence when the adversary and his messengers is thrust to the earth and the heavens are cleansed. The blood will not be on my hands for being afraid to sound the alarm. I don't care if every other teacher you esteem is silent. Though they are not. There are many fine ...
I don’t know how many people pay attention to history. But think about the great nations that were the envy of the world at their time; Assyrian Empire, Babylonian Empire, Roman Empire ect…… Well I find it an honor to have been born during a time when the nation I reside in, is the envy of the world. Its not about America, but God allowed me to be born during this time. I could have been in any other third world country. Who knows where America, or the Earth for that matter, is headed? Regardless, I’m very thankful!
By the time king Ashurbanipal began his rule in 645 BC, the neo-Assyrian Empire was on its last legs. Originally a tiny landlocked kingdom in northern Mesopotamia (now Iraq), Assyria expanded to become the greatest empire up to that time. In the space of 300 years starting in 934 BC, its boundaries ...
