Champions League last 16: Who can we play? With the group stage of the Champions League now having come to an end, attention turns to the draw for the first knockout round, which is due to take place next Monday at 11am in Nyon. Here, the official Chelsea website takes a look at which teams Jose Mourinho’s side could potentially be drawn against. The rules of the competition stipulate that, at this stage, we cannot be drawn against teams from the same country or any team that was in our group, ruling Arsenal, Manchester City and Schalke out. The Blues topped Group G, ensuring we are guaranteed to play the second leg of the next round at Stamford Bridge. Juventus The Italian side, managed by Massimiliano Allegri, finished three points behind Atletico Madrid in Group A and have won the competition twice previously, most recently in 1996. They are currently three points clear at the top of Serie A having lost just once all season, with familiar players such as Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez in t ...

Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal are both attacking midfielders, central midfielders, and defensive midfielders all at the same time.
It can become tiring hearing claims from newspapers in Chile, Italy and England about Arturo Vidal. So much of it is repackaged stuff that's been polished, presented at a new angle, and painted as something new. The saga has become boring even for Manchester United fans. So when a team mate of Arturo Vidal's suggests that he thinks the Chilean is leaving Juventus, it's something shiny and new. When that teammate just happens to be Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba, it makes it an even better story. Pogba left Old Trafford for Turin in a controversial low cost move, blaming Sir Alex Ferguson for not giving him enough chances at the Premier League club. Pogba has been speaking to the Australian media whilst on tour Juventus. He's quoted by The Age as saying "We're hearing that Vidal is going but we don't know. For the moment he's injured, he's trying to get fit. We want him to stay at Juventus. At the moment he's here so we won't speak about him leaving." [Source: Sport Witness]

Daily Mirror Liverpool could take their summer spending past £150million as Brendan Rodgers targets Arturo Vidal, Marco Reus and Paul Pogba. Manchester City are set to offload midfielder Javi Garcia after Alvaro Negredo's injury. Tottenham have made a stunning £20million bid for France World Cup star Antoine Griezmann. Southampton want Stefan de Vrij to replace Dejan Lovren but face a fight with Manchester United. Leicester are targeting former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda as they bid for Premier League safety. Turkish side Besiktas are keen on Fulham’s £11m Costa Rica striker Bryan Ruiz after his impressive World Cup. THE TIMES Tottenham have stepped up their bid to sign France winger Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad – the Spanish side are insisting Spurs pay the £25m buyout clause. Chelsea have ended their interest in re-signing Tiago and the midfielder is expected to sign a new deal at Atletico Madrid. Fernando Amorebieta has attracted interest from Malaga following Fulham’s relegation ...
I've been somewhat dissapointed with Liverpool in this transfer market. Liverpool are about to sign Lovren for 16 mil pounds, but Man Utd are signing a better defender in Hummels for also 16 mil pounds. Liverpool also spent too much money on Lallana when Arsenal bought Sanchez for the same amount. I really hope that Liverpool improve the attack by adding a goalscoring midfielder. The only way I can see Liverpool winning the Premier League and going far in the Champions League is if they sign either Reus or Griezmann. And one of Paul Pogba or Arturo Vidal.

1. How Man Utd target Arturo Vidal compares to the likes of Ramsey, Yaya Toure & Paul Pogba -
United 'go to war' over top target: Flush after announcing a new world record £750m kit deal with adidas (which actually comes into effect in 2015), Manchester United are still refusing to pay an excessive amount for top midfield target Arturo Vidal, who is valued at £34 million by employers Juventus. As reported by the Mirror: "United have warned their interest could go cold as it is understood they believe Italian champions Juve, who need to sell either Vidal or fellow midfielder Paul Pogba to balance their books, may be using them to try to start a bidding war for Vidal." Paper Round's view: What are United up to here? £34m is a very good price for Vidal, who is arguably the pre-eminent box-to-box midfielder in world football. He has dominated Serie A in recent seasons and is the driving force of an impressive Chile side. At 27 he is at his peak so it seems a perfectly reasonable fee to demand. United need to stop negotiating and agree the price immediately before they get gazumped by a team that ca ...
Manchester United's pursuit of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is reportedly in danger of coming to an end due to disagreements over the fee. Yesterday, reports had emerged claiming that the Chile international's move to Old Trafford was "imminent" , but it is now believed that the two clubs are not close to agreeing a deal. According to The Mirror, United are refusing to meet the Italian outfit's asking price of £34m for the midfielder as they believe that Juve are using them to create a bidding war. The Serie A side are expected to sell either Vidal or Paul Pogba in order to ease their financial issues, but United are said to be standing firm on not paying over the odds, despite sealing a record kit deal with Adidas worth around £750m yesterday. Reports have claimed that United manager Louis van Gaal may turn his attention to Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria, who was heavily linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain, but it is believed that the Argentina international would prefer a move to the Premier ...

Chelsea’s proposed £60m move for Juventus mid Paul Pogba could hinge on Arsenal or ManUnited’s success in signing his team-mate Arturo Vidal
"There will be no signings until after the World Cup. We're in no rush and we don't need to do a lot of business", Carlo Ancelotti stated before jetting off on holiday, hinting that goings-on in Brazil could yet determine which players the club bids for. Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal, Toni Kroos and Marco Verratti are among the figures Real are believed to be keeping a close eye on at the World Cup. And then there's Luis Suárez, the 'Galáctico' forward the club would love to line up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to form a dream frontline. The Uruguayan star is under Real scrutiny in Brazil. The club has no doubts over his ability, but his price tag - the new Liverpool contract he signed at the end of last year includes a €94m release clause - means any move for the striker will not be made lightly. Especially considering he has just come back from a tricky knee operation that could have ended his World Cup before it began. 'Los Blancos' want to be sure they will get their full ...

Juventus have denied having an interest in signing Didier Drogba. The Italian champions have been strongly linked with the veteran Ivory Coast striker, who is a free agent after leaving Galatasaray. Former club Chelsea have also been linked with a shock move for the 36- year-old - who it appears is not on Juve's agenda. Juventus' chief executive officer Beppe Marotta stated: "Drogba is a free agent and we have been offered him. "But we have not taken him into consideration." Speaking at an event at the Bocconi University in Milan, he also spoke about Juventus' other transfer situations - including their interest in Alexis Sanchez and their hopes of keeping Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba. "Sanchez is a player we really appreciate, but for the moment we haven't moved yet," he said. "We have clear ideas. We're a winning team that has a leader for a coach and for this reason, I'm excluding the possible departures of our stars. "Real Madrid have shown an appreciation of Vidal, but that's it. Chelsea or Juventus? Paul Pogba's future set to be decided after contract offer CHELSEA have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Juventus star Paul Pogba after the Italian outfit insisted they expect the Frenchman to commit to a new deal in the next few weeks. Chelsea are looking light in the middle of the park after losing Frank Lampard on a free transfer, while versatile defender David Luiz is on the brink of joining French champions Paris St-Germain for a whopping £50million. Jose Mourinho is keen to bring a world-class midfielder to Stamford Bridge this summer, and Express Sport revealed last weekend that the Special One wants one of Paul Pogba, Atletico Madrid's Koke or Tottenham's Paulinho to partner Serbian powerhouse Nemanja Matic next season. The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss had earmarked Pogba as his preferred choice, with some reports claiming a bid worth up to a staggering £68million was being prepared for the ex-Manchester United starlet. Chelsea and Manchester United's hopes of signing Paul Pogba have taken a hit after Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta claimed he would stay in Turin. The 21-year-old had been linked with both clubs - as well as Paris Saint Germain - but Juve hope he will pen a new deal soon. According to Goal.com, Marotta told reporters: "I'm absolutely sure that we'll manage to get him to sign a new contract very soon." The Juve director is also confident Arturo Vidal will extend his stay with the club, despite interest from Real Madrid.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson made it clear to Antonio Conte that the Red Devils want Arturo Vidal while sat next to the Juve boss during last night's Europa League final, with Bianconeri chiefs reportedly only willing to consider the idea if they receive a concrete offer of €40m. Vidal has been nothing short of sensational for Juve across the last three years and his last season managed to maintain that high standard, scoring a whopping 18 goals in all competitions from a roaming midfield role. United are long-term admirers of the Chilean international alongside Real Madrid, which lead Ferguson to take advantage of extended time in Conte's company while the pair watched Sevilla vs. Benfica to make it clear the Red Devils are interested, according to Italian publication Sport Mediaset. Juve are preparing for another fierce fight to keep all of their top stars this summer and Vidal is no different to the likes of Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez, with a minimum price tag of €40m placed ...
Within a day of Sir Alex Ferguson being spotted sitting next to Juventus boss Antonio Conte at the Europa League final, rumours linking Manchester United to Arturo Vidal have really gathered pace. Italy’s Sports Mediaset suggested Fergie had discussed a €32m offer for Vidal and now two more names have been thrown into the hat in Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are also keen on Vidal this summer. The reports have been picked up in Spain by Sport and from United’s perspective, competing against Madrid for a player is not one of our favourite past-times in recent memory. Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil, Luka Modric and Raphael Varane all chose Madrid over Manchester and with the potential of being European champions next year, Madrid would be an enticing prospect for any of the world’s best players. As for Barcelona, they have a chance to salvage something from a poor season when they take on Atletico Madrid this weekend as a win will see them lift the La Liga title and now that their transfer embargo has b ...
Fergie presents United’s €32m offer for Vidal and Juventus ready to sell Manchester United have offered Juventus €30-32m for Arturo Vidal and it was put forward to Antonio Conte by Sir Alex Ferguson, according to Sport Mediaset in Italy. Fergie was at the Europa League final in Turin last night pictured sitting next to Conte and reports now suggest an offer was discussed for Vidal. It is suggested that Juventus are ready to sell Vidal but only if their €40 million price is met. United should bite Juventus’ arm off for Vidal at €40 million. It would be an absolute steal. Approximately £5 million more than we spent on Marouane Fellaini for the best midfielder in his position in the world? It seems too good to be true (which inevitably means it probably is). However, that Juventus hold Paul Pogba in higher regard than Vidal and if they are going to have to lose one of them this summer to a big money big, they would probably prefer it to be Vidal. In that scenario, United should oblige and pay wh ...

Reports in the British press are claiming that David Moyes has issued a 7-man transfer objective list for this summer, including: Dejan Lovren, Mehdi Benatia, Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, William Carvalho and Juventus duo Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba
Manchester United boss David Moyes has handed a seven-man shopping list to chief executive Ed Woodward. The Daily Express says with £100million-plus at his disposal the former Everton boss has made a comprehensive list of targets. Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala and Southampton fullback Luke Shaw are wanted to strengthen United's defence. Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is being eyed by United, along with Juventus pair Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal. Germany duo Toni Kroos and Marco Reus are being followed by Moyes too, as he prepares for a summer overhaul at Old Trafford.

Rumours about United plotting to spend big money on Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba...don't waste your time with any bids because they're both happy at Juventus... and you should recognise by now,Kevin Strootman is perfect for Man United. Watched him again last night as Roma were pretty much played off the park by Napoli. The only stand out players for the away side was him and Miralem Pjanic in my opinion... Get him out of that league whatever the cost..please.
According to the paper United recognise that their squad is, how you say, a bit bobbins, and are looking to make five more signings of Mata's calibre. They might not come in this transfer window, with most of their business likely to be done in the summer, but if the paper is right then it might be quite some business. The Times claims: 'They are looking for top full-backs on either flank, at least two midfielders and another leading forward. Moves are being considered for Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal of Juventus, Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin, FC Porto's Fernando Reges and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus.' Apparently they're keeping tabs on Glen Johnson's situation at Liverpool, which brings the frankly hilarious prospect of United's fans' reaction if they replace Rafael with him. Elsewhere, The Daily Star Sunday claims United have made a 'big offer' - specifically, worth about £22.5million - for Luke Shaw, and they're now waiting on a response from Southampton ...

Lucas Moura would and Ilkay Gundogan and Julian Draxler would. They are young players who have still not reached their full potential and have the potential to go on to be world-class players. They are good players at the moment and that fits the Manchester United mould of how they have historically signed, more often than not."

Neil Ashton: Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan, Fabio Coentrao, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal are among the names in circulation at Manchester United. Aside from their wage demands, here are the two questions they will be asking of chief executive Ed Woodward: When is Wayne Rooney signing a new deal and when is Robin van Persie going to play again injury-free. The fact that neither question can be answered by Moyes or Woodward is hardly a great selling point for one of the biggest clubs in world football.
David Moyes was present to watch Juventus’ Claudio Marchisio as he continues to look to bolster Manchester United’s midfield. The Scot went to Sardinia along with first-team coach Jimmy Lumsden on Sunday to see the Italy international come off the bench and score as Juventus beat Cagliari 4-1. Three other reported United targets featured in the game, with Chile international Arturo Vidal and France’s Paul Pogba -- who left United in 2012 -- both starting for Antonio Conte’s side as they recorded an 11th consecutive win in Serie A, and defender Davide Astori featuring for Cagliari. However, Marchisio, 27, has been linked with United with increasing frequency in recent weeks and appears to be the most likely target, even if Moyes claimed he was simply on vacation. He told Tuttosport: "I'm here on vacation, no special observations, no market operations." Marchisio, who has had limited first-team football this season, is believed to be valued at around 20 million pounds, but it is thought to be unlike ...

Why are Xavi, Pirlo & Mourinho nominated? The Ballon d’Or is decided on reputation Fifa released their shortlists for the 2013 edition on Tuesday, and unsurprisingly there were some glaring omissions and unfair inclusions Oct 29, 2013 1:00:00 PM COMMENT By Carlo Garganese The Fifa Ballon d’Or shortlist, revealed on Tuesday, has once again shown that players and coaches are rewarded based on reputation and not on their form and achievements over the course of the calendar year. This has been proven time and again. The snubbing of Wesley Sneijder and Diego Milito in 2010 is just one example, but this year is perhaps the most blatant case of big-name favouritism. In the main category, Andrea Pirlo and Xavi are among the 23 contenders. The pair have undoubtedly been the top two centre midfielders of their generation but both have been well below their best since January 1. At Juventus alone, there have been two midfielders superior to Pirlo – Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal. The omission of the Chilean from ...

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has denied suggestions that his current war of words with the club is over wanting more money. On Friday, the 27-year-old had hinted at an exit from the Bianconeri this summer due to not knowing whether he was still considered an important player to Antonio Conte's men. With the transfer window a fortnight away, the midfielder has insisted that his reason for questioning the Turin-based club's intentions are not down to financial gain. Marchisio told Sky Sport: "It is not for this reason. For me, it is not about money." The Italy international, who is currently at the Confederations Cup with Cesare Prandelli's men, has been a key member of the squad in both of Juve's back-to-back Scudetto triumphs in the last two seasons. However, he has the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba to compete with in midfield and it has been suggested that he could depart the Juventus Stadium ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has warned Real Madrid any deal for Gonzalo Higuain will not include “our best players.” The transfer guru spoke to Sky Sport Italia after a lunch meeting with President Florentino Perez and the Real Madrid-Juventus Legends game at the Bernabeu. “We met with President Perez and it’s obvious that we also talked about football at this lunch,” confessed Marotta. “It is all still to be defined, because Real have not yet clarified their coaching situation. Therefore any debate on players is postponed. “The two clubs have an excellent rapport and they showed appreciation for some of our players. It is possible to see market strategies.” However, Marotta insisted the Bianconeri would not be parting with the likes of Paul Pogba or Arturo Vidal. “We will not sell our best players, regardless of the fact they have impressed other clubs. “As for Higuain, if we renew our consideration towards the player then it can be considered a step forward, but any other ...
