Arturo Vidal to Manchester United switch could happen if Juan Mata goes Turin - reports
Could Manchester United be swapping Juan Mata for Arturo Vidal in January? Good move?
Louis Van Gaal is looking to use Juan Mata as a makeweight in a deal to sign Arturo Vidal. [Star]
Juventus are lining up a bid for Juan Mata and are prepared to let Arturo Vidal move to Manchester United in the opposite direction, according to reports in Italy. The Spanish midfielder has found first-team opportunities at United more difficult to come by since Louis Van Gaal splashed out to sign Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao in the summer. Mata has started two of United’s four games since the close of the transfer window. His start against Everton in the last game before the international break was largely down to Wayne Rooney’s suspension after he was sent off during the 2-1 win over West Ham. Vidal, meanwhile, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since the World Cup.
Juventus have given Man United the all clear to conduct a swap deal that would presumably be one Louis Van Gaal would be open to completing. The Daily Express claim that the Serie A title holders are ready to ‘ditch’ Chilean Arturo Vidal and will accept Juan Mata in a straight swap deal. Van Gaal has been linked with an interest in Vidal for some months and the chance to land the South American in this manner is one that would appear to suit the Dutch boss.
Manchester United could finally land long-term target Arturo Vidal if Juan Mata goes in the other direction.

A deal for Mata could also hold the key to United finally signing Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
With Juventus manager resigning, Manchester United's €35 million deal for Arturo Vidal could be sealed up quite soon. Especially as Louis Van Gaal takes over as United boss today, we could see the seal gather a little more pace. If we bring in these men: Reus, Di Maria, Hummels, Vidal and Vermaelen as well as the two new faces we have already brought in, we could be looking at a new title winning side totally refurbished side from what we saw last year. Shaggy hair, Brazilian flair, Geezer, Those words in unison conjure up the image of just one man -- David Luiz. The 27yrs-old has become something of an icon because of his distinctive barnet, his silky touch,&the natural way in which he bonds with fans&teammates alike. The flamboyant Luiz is a hugely popular figure among supporters of Chelsea&Brazil, while his joie de vivre has been a sizable influence in the Stamford Bridge dressing room since his arrival from Benfica in 2011. His status is set to rise further next month when the World Cup takes place in his homeland,&should he replicate his performances from last summer’s Confederations Cup,then he will be assured of a permanent place in the hearts of his countrymen. Is Juan Mata enough for Manchester United? Is the Spaniard enough to save United's season and help them finish in the top four? With the acquisition of Juan Mata, Manchester United fans might think that their fortunes might change. But this is certainly not an Eric Cantona situation where one man single handedly turns round a team's season and I think the Manchester United boss will have to get another two or three players in. David Moyes has been travelling a lot these days to scout players fit for the club himself. He has been spotted recently in Germany and Italy watching the likes of Arturo Vidal, Marco Reus and İlkay Gündoğan. Arturo Vidal pulled a goal back before the break and, after Eden Hazard was denied what appeared a penalty, Fabio Quagliarella came off the bench to equalise and was a lick of paint from completing a sensational turnaround. That would have been cruel on Chelsea but - as in their UEFA Super Cup thrashing by Atletico Madrid - they left themselves exposed enough to make such an outcome possible. It was all looking so good after 33 minutes of what Roberto Di Matteo on Tuesday dubbed Mission: "Impossible". His Midas touch in the competition was in evidence again after the shock selection of Oscar, who he admitted the .. ...
