Why are Xavi, Pirlo & Mourinho nominated? The Ballon d’Or is decided on reputation Fifa released their shortlists for the 2013 edition on Tuesday, and unsurprisingly there were some glaring omissions and unfair inclusions Oct 29, 2013 1:00:00 PM COMMENT By Carlo Garganese The Fifa Ballon d’Or shortlist, revealed on Tuesday, has once again shown that players and coaches are rewarded based on reputation and not on their form and achievements over the course of the calendar year. This has been proven time and again. The snubbing of Wesley Sneijder and Diego Milito in 2010 is just one example, but this year is perhaps the most blatant case of big-name favouritism. In the main category, Andrea Pirlo and Xavi are among the 23 contenders. The pair have undoubtedly been the top two centre midfielders of their generation but both have been well below their best since January 1. At Juventus alone, there have been two midfielders superior to Pirlo – Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal. The omission of the Chilean from ...
Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has denied suggestions that his current war of words with the club is over wanting more money. On Friday, the 27-year-old had hinted at an exit from the Bianconeri this summer due to not knowing whether he was still considered an important player to Antonio Conte's men. With the transfer window a fortnight away, the midfielder has insisted that his reason for questioning the Turin-based club's intentions are not down to financial gain. Marchisio told Sky Sport: "It is not for this reason. For me, it is not about money." The Italy international, who is currently at the Confederations Cup with Cesare Prandelli's men, has been a key member of the squad in both of Juve's back-to-back Scudetto triumphs in the last two seasons. However, he has the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba to compete with in midfield and it has been suggested that he could depart the Juventus Stadium ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
But seriously, Claudio Marchisio, Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo.. What a fantastic midfield... Probably the main reason they're in this comp

Juve do the Harlem Shake! March 8, 2013 juventus.com Juventus have become the first Serie A club to perform their own version of the internet dance craze Harlem Shake. The 35-second clip, published this afternoon across the Bianconeri’s official social networks, begins with Leonardo Bonucci speaking to the press at the club’s Media Center in Vinovo. The defender - flanked by Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal and Fabio Quagliarella - is seemingly oblivious to the unexpected intruder as he continues to reflect the on the team’s most recent performance. But when the bass drops, the Juve quartet spring into action, embracing the madness by performing impromptu dance moves in a variety of wacky outfits. Bonucci bops along in boy scout attire, Pogba cuts some devastating shapes as Zorro, Vidal rules the roost with a golden crown perched on his head while Quagliarella lets his fetching blonde quiff do the talking. World Sports News Pogba double leads Juve to victory French teenager Paul Pogba scored a sensational brace to inspire depleted Juventus to a 4-0 rout of Udinese which helped the Serie A champions extend their lead over Lazio on Saturday. Juve started their 21st match of the campaign with a three-point lead on both Napoli and Lazio but missing key midfielders Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal due to recent injuries. After Lazio had to settle for a share of the points in a 2-2 draw at strugglers Palermo, Juve took full advantage. The champions now have a five-point lead over Lazio, who sit second on 43 points, and will be hoping Napoli, third on 42, find similar trouble Sunday in their away game against Fiorentina. Pogba, signed in the off-season on a free transfer from Manchester United, had already scored two sensational goals earlier this season. And the 19-year-old broke the deadlock near the end of a frustrating first half for the hosts by unleashing a 30-metre screamer which hit the cro ...

Chelsea are on the brink of an early UEFA Champions League exit after losing 3-0 at Juventus on Tuesday evening. Fabio Quagliarella diverted Andrea Pirlo's weak shot past the wrong-footed Petr Cech to give the home side the lead just before the interval. Arturo Vidal added to the lead just after the hour mark when his side-footed effort from Kwadwo Asamoah's cut-back was deflected past Cech off the heel of Ramires. And substitute Sebastian Giovinco put the gloss on the display as he slotted the ball past the advancing Chelsea goalkeeper in injury time. Chelsea must now beat Nordsjaelland in their final Group E game - and hope Shakhtar Donetsk beat Juve in Ukraine - to have any chance of retaining their European crown. And Roberto Di Matteo may regret fielding a new-look line-up with Fernando Torres axed in favour of Eden Hazard up front and Cesar Azpilicueta playing on the right of midfield. Juventus had dominated the game before the break with wing-backs Stephan Lichtsteiner and Asamoah pushing forward a ...

Arturo Vidal: Why His Role Is so Important to Andrea Pirlo and Juventus: On Tuesday, Juventus will kick off...
Juventus registered their first Champions League win of the season after a comfortable victory over FC Nordsjaelland. First-half strikes from Claudio Marchisio, Arturo Vidal and Sebastian Giovinco, plus a second-half header from Fabio Quagliarella were enough to see off the Norwegian champions as the Italians finally tasted victory after three successive draws. For the hosts, Mauricio Isla came in for Stephan Lichtsteiner who was injured in their 3-1 loss to Inter at the weekend, while Alessandro Matri replaced Mirko Vucinic. The visitors made two changes from the team who won 2-1 at Sonderjyske, with Soren Christensen and Morten Nordstrand making way for Andreas Laudrup and Nicolai Stokholm. Juventus were thankful for a Vucinic strike nine minutes from time to spare the Serie A champion's blushes when the two teams met a fortnight ago. However, it took them just six minutes to get on the scoresheet tonight as Isla's low cross from the right was converted by Marchisio from six yards out. And they were two ...
Giorgio Chiellini admits he was surprised by the tactical approach Inter took at the Juventus Stadium. “They deserved the victory.” The Nerazzurri adopted a 3-4-3 system with Rodrigo Palacio, Diego Milito and Antonio Cassano upfront. “In all honesty, I expected them to man-mark Andrea Pirlo but wasn’t sure if it’d be Fredy Guarin or Palacio. That’s how they approached Fiorentina with Coutinho coming back, but this time they seemed to alternate,” he said after the 3-1 defeat. “Inter are very strong on the counter and until we kept our balance to lock down those spaces, we were in control and had the chances to add a second goal. “As soon as we lost our unity and started to leave more spaces, Inter took advantage and deserved the victory.” Arturo Vidal had given Juve the lead after 18 seconds, but it should’ve been ruled offside. “At half-time we were thinking of other things and not whether the goal was offside. In the second half Inter were able to stretch us out and that created t ...
