Arsene Wenger has just left every other team in the Premier League shaking in their football boots after suggesting Alexis Sanchez can get even better. The Chile star scored twice and assisted another as Arsenal eased past Stoke City with a 3-0 victory. Sanchez's stunning solo effort for his first goal came shortly after he had set Laurent Koscielny up for the opener. He capped off the man of the match performance with a second half strike from a free-kick. Since signing from Barcelona in the summer for £32 million, the 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions and assisted nine. Having been involved in 19 Premier League goals, he is currently the most effective player in England's top division. IMPROVING ON PERFECTION Despite his incredible form, Wenger has suggested Sanchez can get even better, possibly moving up to the level that Luis Suarez reached at Liverpool before his summer move to Barcelona. With a crucial run of games approaching, the Arsenal boss has no doubt how important Sanchez w ...
Arsenal picked up the maximum three points at the Emirates Stadium when the Gunners defeated Stoke City by a massive three goals to nil, but the victory also came with a big blow for the Arsene Wenger led team as defender Mathieu Debuchy dislocated a shoulder and could be out for a couple of week, depending on what doctors say tomorrow. The 29-year-old has already missed three months of the season with an ankle injury. Calum Chambers and Bellerin. The French right-back collided with Stoke's Marko Arnautovic before landing awkwardly and was replaced by Hector Bellerin after 13 minutes. The Gunners won courtesy of two goals from Alexis Sanchez, who also set up Laurent Koscielny for the other goal.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Alexis Sanchez’ "amazing" quality after the Chilean inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Sunday. Alexis set up the opening goal for Laurent Koscielny on six minutes before striking twice himself to take his goal tally to 19 in all competitions and seal a deserved win for Arsene Wenger's men. With 13 goals and seven assists, the Chilean has now been directly involved in over half of Arsenal's 37 Premier League goals this season and Oxlade-Chamberlain has no doubts about his team-mate's talent. "Alexis is amazing. He shows it week in week out and that's the most important thing for top players to do," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. "It's about consistency and it's not good enough to just be good one week, everyone wants to see you being great every week. "Alexis has done that all the way through the season. He was brilliant again today with two good goals and obviously he set Laurent's goal up as well. Hopefully it continues for him because he's ha ...

Two Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea having been looking into signing of Mings, with £10 million moves being quoted for those two. £4 million is the figure Mark Hughes is willing to pay. A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly confronting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during their 2-0 Premier League loss to Southampton on New Year's Day, reports the BBC. Luke Bryant, 25, from Lymington in Hampshire is said to have broken the laws outlined in the 1991 Football Offences Act by taking to the technical area and going up to Wenger. Mr Bryant will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on January 22. The incident occurred with Wenger's Gunners side losing to their hosts and comes just weeks after the Frenchman was abused by supporters as he left Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. As is almost tradition every season now, many unhappy fans want the 65-year-old to leave the North London club for what they perceive as poor form from their team. Wenger was the subject of a campaign to force him out of the Emirates Stadium earlier in 2014/15 as well when a 'Wenger Out' banner was revealed during the match at West Bromwich Albion.
SHOCKING! The moment an angry fan confronted Wenger during Saints loss As if Arsene Wenger's New Year's Day wasn't bad enough, the Arsenal boss was confronted by a supporter on the touchline during his side's 2-0 loss at Southampton. With the Gunners trailing late on, the fan appeared to remonstrate with the Frenchman, just weeks after he was abused by travelling Arsenal fans at a train station, following another defeat at Stoke City. It remains unclear which whether the pitch invader at St Mary's was a home or away fan, as some reports suggested he could have been a Saints supporter goading the Arsenal bench. Defeat at Southampton was Arsenal's first Premier League reverse since losing at the Britannia Stadium on 6 December, and leaves them three points behind the fourth-placed Saints. The supporter was given short shrift by Wenger's assistant, Steve Bould, before being led away by stewards. It follows protests against Wenger during Arsenal's 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion, in which supporters unfurled ...

y Miguel Delaney Stoke 3 Arsenal 2 On a frantic afternoon at the Britannia when there was so much to criticise about Arsenal, one stark fact stood above all others. It was not that they conceded after 18 seconds, or were 3-0 down by half-time because of the most basic errors. It was that, when Mark Hughes took one look at their team-sheet, he knew his Stoke City side had a big opportunity. That’s what Arsenal looked like: a roll-over. It was exactly what they were. “Yes,” Hughes bluntly answered when asked if he fancied his chances after seeing Arsenal’s back five. “We expected (Laurent) Koscielny to play to be perfectly honest, so that was no surprise for us. “When you’ve had changes in the back four, as we’ve had to deal with in recent weeks too, it can upset you and the balance of your team. It takes a while for guys to get used to play with each other.” The bigger issue for Arsenal is that they never seem to get used to such problems at any point. Or, at the least, Arsene Wenger show ...
Premier League TALK: It was a Saturday of the Long Knives as Chelsea's hitherto "unbeaten" record finally came tumbling down like a house of cards at the hands of "minnows" Newcastle United. Not even the tired legs of oldman Didier Drogba could turn around the fortunes of "The Bus" that had already been turned upside down by Senegalese attacker Papisse Cisse as Chelsea mounted a weak "resurgence" that barely lasted 10 minutes resulting in their only goal but still ended up being hit 2-1.After the Chelsea game,it was the turn of the established "Pretenders" to the EPL throne(known to keep position four as theirs for keeps).Arsenal visiting Stoke City (Wana Beba Beba),hoping to win and at least occupy their traditional number four spot but alas!.They were shocked by the fastest goal of the Premier League after langy Peter Crouch scored a goal after only 31 seconds!.Crouch scored the goal even as underperforming Arsene Wenger was walking towards his seat to start "enjoying" the match! At half-time,a resilient ...

Much of the pressure is on the hosts, who produced a determined effort to sneak past Liverpool in the last round. The FA Cup is the trophy that Arsenal have the best chance of winning, particularly after a disappointing league defeat to Stoke City last time out, so manager Arsene Wenger must be quick to ensure that his players are focused, with the second leg of their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich coming up on Tuesday. Everton were given a great deal of respect for their performance at the Emirates Stadium in December, gaining a late point thanks to Gerard Deulofeu. They enter this one looking for a first trophy in 19 years, but with renewed confidence after ending a recent slump with a narrow victory over West Ham United. And with the match-winner that day, Romelu Lukaku, set to return to the starting XI, they may fancy their chances. Arsenal are now without Jack Wilshere in what is another major injury setback. The England international will miss six weeks and thus joins Abou Diaby, Theo Walco ...

Wojciech Szczesny 7 – Whenever the Polish international was called upon, he was reliable between the sticks for the Gunners, only beaten by a penalty from Jonathan Walters with 15 minutes to play. Bacary Sagna 6 – Wasn't troubled too often today, but also didn't offer enough going forward. Didn't really follow up on an impressive display against Sunderland today. Per Mertesacker 7 – the towering German dealt well with Peter Crouch today as Stoke's physical nature continued to cause Arsenal problems, but Mertesacker was steady throughout. Laurent Koscielny 6 – Frenchman Koscielny was having a fairly solid game until he gave away the all important penalty that sent Arsene Wenger's men back to North London empty handed. ** Premier League ** Arsene Wenger has hit out at being forced to justify handing his Arsenal stars two days’ rest this week, branding critics of his decision unbelievable. This as the Gunners prepare crunch tie against Stoke City on Saturday in the English Premier League.
Stoke City have been told by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that Theo Walcott is not available for a loan move.
Alan Pardew has warned his old adversary Arsene Wenger his Arsenal team will be heading to a “rocking” St James’ Park on Sunday after the Premier League’s race for the top four intensified on Boxing Day. Newcastle United’s thumping 5-1 win against an aggressive Stoke City outfit left the Magpies flying high in the top six and means the encounter now becomes one of the season’s key games when it comes to determining the top six this term. Pardew infamously clashed with Wenger during his days as West Ham boss when the pair had to be pulled apart at Upton Park. One of the Londoner’s finest hours at United came when he roared his team on from a 4-0 deficit in 2011 to hit back and *** a point in the never to be forgotten 4-4 draw. Pardew issued a fresh warning to Wenger last night when he said: “This place will be rocking - and Arsenal know that. “It is a difficult game for both of us, so let’s see how we match up.” Pardew will have a welcome selection headache against the Gunners when .. ...
Arsenal 1-1 Everton Arsenal missed the chance to go seven points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League as Gerard Deulofeu's late goal earned Everton a 1-1 draw. Arsene Wenger's men failed to take full advantage of Chelsea's shock 3-2 loss at Stoke City on Saturday, although they did extend their lead on their London rivals – and Liverpool – to five points at Emirates Stadium. Barcelona loanee Deulofeu struck with six minutes remaining as Everton ended an excellent week, which also featured victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, on a high. The visitors controlled the first half but lacked a cutting edge and, in an end-to-end second period, Arsenal looked to have secured three points when Mesut Ozil converted from close range in the 80th minute. However, substitute Deulofeu – who was introduced just five minutes before scoring – had other ideas, firing past Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to rescue a point. Olivier Giroud almost found a dramatic winner for Arsenal, firing a l ...
Arsenal predicted line-up - how the Gunners are expected to look against Everton by Tom Seymour8 minutes ago 0 Comments Huddle The starting XI Arsene Wenger will send out against the Toffees. With Chelsea slipping up against Stoke City on Saturday, Arsenal have a real chance of extending their lead at the top of the a Premier League as they take on Everton. The Gunners have looked in superb touch this season and have been the most consistent performers in the division, but face tough competition in Roberto Martinez's Toffees. The Merseyside club have lost just once in the English top tier - fewer than any other side - and will go to the Emirates Stadium high on confidence after a midweek victory at Manchester United. Here is how fanatix thinks the hosts will line-up: Goalkeeper - Wojciech Szczesny As one of the finest stoppers in the league the Poland international is almost certain to resume the No.1 spot between the sticks. Crystal Palace will begin life without manager Ian Holloway against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Selhurst Park this weekend at 1445hrs. Palace are yet to appoint a new manager. For the time being, Palace will be under the leadership of Holloway's former assistant Keith Millen, but rumours are rife that ex-Stoke City Manager Tony Pulis could be the next man in the hotseat. Going through such a transition is not ideal for Palace, who will have to face in-form Arsenal after securing just one victory out of eight league fixtures in the campaign. In contrast, Arsene Wenger's Gunners side are at the top of the table having remained unbeaten in their last seven fixtures, their latest being a 4-1 win over Norwich City. In the five times that these two sides have played against each other, Arsenal have come out on top three times, while Palace have not grabbed one victory over the North London outfit. Palace are likely to stick with Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle up front, while Jack Wilshere could miss o ...
Arsenal Unlike Michael Laudrup, Arsene Wenger does have a long list of absentees ahead of this fixture. Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Abou Diaby, Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Tomas Rosicky are all out with injuries. Rosicky is close to returning to full fitness and could be fit for the match against Napoli. After resting most of his big name players in the match against West Brom in the League Cup, Arsene Wenger is expected to field the side he used in the match against Stoke City last weekend. Which means Sagna, Koscienly and Gibbs will return to the side alongside Mertesacker in defence, while Flamini and Ramsey resume their partnership in front of it. Mikel Arteta has returned from his injury and featured in Arsenal’s midweek game, but the Spaniard is likely to be dropped to the bench with Flamini and Ramsey forming a good partnership recently. Gnabry will continue his stint in the first team squad in the absence of Theo Walcott on the right, while Mesut Ozil and Jack Wils ...
controversial striker Nicklas Bendtner could be handed his first start for the side after having been exiled from the first-team for the past two seasons following a fall out with manager Arsene Wenger. With new signing Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott injured, Olivier Giroud is the only other recognized striker in the Arsenal squad but as he have played in all the games of the 2013/14 campaign so far he could well be rested as a precaution. Arsene Wenger during the post-match conference after the Stoke City game: "We have a Capital One Cup game at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday and I will rotate the team, of course. Nicklas Bendtner has a chance to be involved."
Mesut Ozil starred as Arsenal made it four consecutive Premier League wins with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium. The Germany international had a hand in all three of his sides goals on his home debut as Arsene Wenger's men eased to a comfortable win that sent them top of the Premier League ahead of Sunday's late fixtures. Ozil's free-kick was parried into the path of Aaron Ramsey to score a fifth-minute opener, before Geoff Cameron cancelled that out for Stoke. Per Mertesacker put Arsenal back in front at the break, with Ozil supplying the assist, before the £42.5million playmaker was on hand again to supply the third for Bacary Sagna to head home his first goal since February 2012 with 18 minutes left. The only change for the hosts came just prior to the match, with Serge Gnabry called up as a late replacement for Theo Walcott, who was laid low with illness. Mikel Arteta and Nicklas Bendtner both made their first appearances of the season on the bench. For the visitors, Marko Arnau ...
Arsenal beat Stoke to go top of the log 22 September By Reuters London – Arsenal moved top of the Premier League with a 3-1 defeat of Stoke City with in-form midfielder Aaron Ramsey again providing the spark on Sunday. Ramsey fired Arsenal ahead after five minutes and although Stoke equalised through American Geoff Cameron, goals from Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna sealed a seventh consecutive win in all competitions for Arsene Wenger's side. Welshman Ramsey has scored seven goals in eight matches this season and his early goal helped nullify the loss of Theo Walcott who was injured in the warm-up. Swansea City followed up a notable 3-0 Europa League win in Valencia in midweek with a 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace that moved Michael Laudrup's side into mid-table. After losing on the opening day of the season at home to Aston Villa, Arsenal have won four successive league games and lead the table with 12 points, two ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool and three more than Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham can matc ...
Premier League Preview: Arsenal v Stoke City = Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has backed the team to continue their impressive run of form when they welcome Stoke City on Sunday. After an opening-day 3-1 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa last month, Arsene Wenger's side have bounced back strongly with six straight victories in all competitions. The most recent of those came in a 2-1 success away to Marseille on Wednesday in the club's opening Group F UEFA Champions League fixture. That followed an equally impressive performance in a 3-1 triumph at Sunderland Last Saturday, a result that has left them second in the Premier League as Stoke prepare to head south to the Emirates Stadium. And Szczesny believes cohesive defensive displays have been crucial to the team's recent success. "We've won the last six games, four of them away from home," he told Arsenal Player. "We know the momentum is with us. The games are coming thick and fast because we play in every midweek games so I'm sure we can keep th ...
Written by Mike Pejic It would be great to think Arsene Wenger, that arch critic of Stoke City in recent years, might have one or two compliments to pay us after tomorrow's game. He certainly won't be seeing the rugby team he once unfairly referred to.The times they are a changing at Stoke City and I saw that for myself last week. Not just during the game against Manchester City, which was impressive enough, but after the game too. You often see substitutes and squad players being put through their paces in shuttle runs and the like down on the pitch 10 minutes after the final whistle. But what I saw last week was something new for me. For a good 45 minutes, the fringe players were involved in an intense short-sided game which looked challenging, enjoyable and rewarding. The aim of the game was to not only keep the ball at the right times, but also look for a penetrative pass when the chance came.To me, the signal was obvious to those players – and the starting 11. It is that Mark Hughes has subs ready, ...

The in-demand centre-back, an £8.5m arrival from Lorient three years ago, was outstanding in the second half of last season as Arsenal claimed fourth spot. And his de ...

Begovic battle on cards for United Manchester United will face a summer fight with Arsenal if they are to secure the signature of Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. The Potters are set to cash in on Begovic in the summer following the arrival of Jack Butland from Birmingham on deadline day, and a host of top clubs are keen to sign him. United are said to be favourites as they reportedly look to replace David De Gea, who has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford since arriving from Atletico Madrid. The Reds are said to be lining up an £8million move but Stoke could demand almost double that for the Bosnia Herzegovina international, who is rated as one of the best keepers in the Premier League Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could be set to challenge his United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson for Begovic's signature as he looks to draft in a new goalkeeper in the summer to challenge and possibly replace current number one Wojciech Szczesny.
Arsenal have long been regarded as purveyors of fluent and creative football, but have also been criticised for having a soft centre and not being able to cope with physical sides like Sam Allardyce’s West Ham and more recently Tony Pulis’ Stoke City. The Gunners beat Stoke this weekend in a tough and hard fought game, and Arsene Wenger was as pleased with the way that his players competed, as he was with the result. Wenger believes it was a game which showed how Arsenal are toughening up and maturing. His words also suggest that we will be seeing more of this in the future as he builds a team capable of competing for the Premier League title again. Arsenal need more resilience and battling qualities to add to the creative side, and the Frenchman can see it starting to work. “In England you have to cope with all types of football without losing the quality you want to play and that is not always easy, because if you have 10 Cazorlas you would have a very good technical team, but against Stoke you wo ...

It's a grade two thigh strain and could be a bit longer than expected at the start''. On players coming back:- ''Arteta is back in the squad. He has a final test this morning. Coquelin is not far from returning at all, but it would be a gamble to take him. If not able for tomorrow, he will be for the next game''. On other injuries:- ''We have a doubt over Vermaelen, with his ankle again. I will make a decision today after training''. )---Hkz
Malaga defender set to complete £8.5m Arsenal move Date: 31st January 2013 at 8:53 pm Written by Aidan McCartney | Comments (0) Arsenal are set to sign a Spaniard before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline. Sadly for excited Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern, it’s not Barcelona striker David Villa but Malaga left back Nacho Monreal. According to Mail Online, the defender is in London ironing out the finishing touches to a £8.5 million deal which will see the 26-year-old become Arsene Wenger first and only signing of the January transfer window. He was set to join up with the North London club during the summer but the deal has been fast tracked following the injury sustained by Kieran Gibbs during last night’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool. Monreal, who will be unable to play against Bayern Munich in the upcoming Champions League tie, could even start for the Gunners on Saturday for the visit of Stoke City with Wenger rightly losing faith in the terrible Andre Santos. The Spanish defender, wh ...
THE TRUTH ABOUT THE PROBLEMS FACING ARSENAL Arsene Wenger has held the post of Manager at Arsenal football club since 1996 during this time football has evolved, From 4-4-2 to a more robust midfield formation 4-3-3. You can modify it anyway you want depending on what favours the team. Arsene Wenger went for a 4-2-3-1 to allow Cesc Fabregas the Tactical freedom he needed to flourish. Alex Song, Denilson, Abou Diaby, were to handle the defensive duties while Cesc Fabregas was allowed to handle creative duties. This made Arsenal’s game highly dependent on Cesc Fabregas for creative duties Arsene Wenger’s decision to change to 4-3-3 was inspired by the success Barcelona enjoyed with the formation, This formation made Arsenal football fans delight with their fluid, fast paced attacking football. The downside to this formation were teams who parked the bus and defend with enough players behind the ball (Stoke City, Blackburn, Chelsea, Bolton were notable examples). Arsene soon declared war on defensive side ...
English Premier League ROUND-UP Resounding victories for Manchester City and Manchester United over Stoke City and Wigan Athletic respectively still perpetuates the Mancocracy at the summit of the league. Elsewhere, Tottenham under their young gaffer Andre Villas-Boas beam with glee after a 3-1 victory over Reading on New Year's Day to go third on the table temporarily.. The bottom of the league begins to take shape as Aston Villa lobotomized their relegation struggles with a 2-2 draw away with crisp-passing Barcelona-esque Swansea City, who had a late equalizer through Daniel Graham. There is still a game left today with Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal aficionados travelling to St. Mary's to face the Saints. It will be a return for Gooners twain Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who make a trip to St. Mary's since their exits in 2006 and 2011 respectively.
EPL: Man City Draw on Memory for New Year Title Fight. Champions Manchester City go into 2013 facing a daunting seven-point deficit on Premier League leaders Manchester United and a testing encounter against stubborn Stoke City on Tuesday. Roberto Mancini's side ended the year which delivered their first Premier League title with a gritty 4-3 triumph over Norwich City, proving their high-profile players also have the mettle for a fight. It is early days in the long title run-in but United, who travel to Wigan Athletic on New Year's Day, are traditionally strong in the second half of the campaign. Mancini, however, does not need to trawl the memory banks too far for inspiration as United threw away an eight-point advantage with only six games left to play last season. "We showed we are there for the title," Mancini said after his team displayed their steely core to beat Norwich despite Samir Nasri's sending-off just before halftime. "We won't leave this title easily and will fight every game. With 10 playe ...
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to smash the club’s transfer record this summer as he sets his sights on Everton star Marouane Fellaini. The 25 year old Toffees midfielder has been in excellent form thus far this season but stated his intention to leave Goodison Park earlier in the campaign during a interview with Belgian reporters. Fellaini was in hot water following those comments but hasn’t let speculation over his future affect his form. Marouane Fellaini was publicly admonished by boss David Moyes over his violent altercations during Everton’s recent encounter with Stoke City, which led to further talk of a possible Everton exit. Now Wenger has identified the former Standard Liege man as his number one summer target. The Gunners boss has earmarked a move to bring in Fellaini to act as much needed support for his front-line, a role the Everton man currently fills a similar spot behind Croatian Nikica Jelavic to good effect. Fellaini will be all the more likely to push for an Everton exit ...
Well, guys, since the end is near, I'll make few confessions which have tormented me for some time: - I have two jerseys with Gervinho's name on the back (an Arsenal and an Ivory Coast kit) and every time he scores a goal, I cut myself a little to feel what it really feels like to be alive; - I am convinced Aaron Ramsey is the new Messi. Trust me, he's an alien (not the good kind); - Arsene Wenger is a tactical genius and the way he plays midfielders and wingers out of position is visionary and highly effective. I secretly slways supported his approach, but didn't want to look "too mainstream", so I criticized him; - I have never liked Barca's boring style of play. Having the best players in the world doesn't mean you should make football fun. It is meant to be played the way Stoke City play it - like rugby; - Messi is just an overrated midget! I'm 99% sure I saw him in "The Hobbit", carrying Gimli's ax. He has no place on the football field, he belongs down in the mines of Moria; - Pep Guardiola doesn't ...
You've got to agree with that Stoke City fan. Arsene Wenger is probably the best Chief Scout in Manchester.
Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Rio Ferdinand that he must comply with instructions to wear a Kick It Out T-shirt before today's game with Stoke City at Old Trafford, despite the Manchester United defender considering a boycott over what he perceives to be the failure in the handling of the John Terry affair. Roberto Di Matteo has admitted for the first time that John Terry's abuse of Anton Ferdinand had damaged Chelsea's image. Roberto Di Matteo insists he has no regrets about Chelsea's handling of the John Terry racism affair and claimed that the disgraced defender remains a suitable figurehead for the club. Arsene Wenger has told the nation not to go "bonkers" over Jack Wilshere's imminent return after the Arsenal manager changed his mind and put the midfielder in contention to play his first game in 14 months today. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he could sign more players after admitting his side struggled in the final third against Stoke.
Arsenal boss Wenger ponders double Newcastle raid for Tiote, Cabaye Mon, 08/27/2012 - 03:55 Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing Newcastle United pair Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote. Both players have long been admired by Wenger, who is set to bid for the duo this week. "I'm pleased with what we've done but I anticipate we will do something and we are still on the market," Wenger told Sky Sports after the 0-0 draw at Stoke City. "It depends on the quality of players who are available. If we can find somebody who can strengthen our squad with the quality we want we will do it in any position." Arsenal boss Wenger: No way we were going to pay Van Persie £300k-a-week!
Will Share Scoring Responsibilites ! Arsene Wenger has defended his new look side following another barren draw against Stoke City. Wenger said: “If you want to convince me that we lost an exceptional player [in Robin Van Persie] you are wasting your time. I was the first to say that. We have to find a way to get around that by sharing more of the goals than we did before with Van Persie. Giroud scored 20 [last season], Podolski scored 20. We will get some goals I’m convinced from Diaby, Ramsey, Walcott, Gervinho, so we have of course to share it around a bit.”.IRE O.
Arsene Wenger says action should be taken against offensive chants after he and Aaron Ramsey were on the receiving end at Stoke City.
Wigan took another significant stride towards securing Premier League football next season by thumping Newcastle 4-0, while other relegation-threatened sides Aston Villa and Bolton both drew. In the battle to secure Champions League football, it was a good day for Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, with Arsenal being held at Stoke. Arsenal failed to firm up their grip on third place as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Stoke City. The Gunners' long-standing aerial weakness was exposed by Peter Crouch early on, as he soared above Thomas Vermaelen to bury Matthew Etherington's cross in the corner of the net - but Arsenal were not behind for long, as Tomas Rosicky produced a defence-splitting chip that Robin Van Persie could not miss from close range. Arsene Wenger's side dominated possession in the second half but created precious few chances, with Yossi Benayoun's shout for a penalty under a challenge from Glenn Whelan one of a handful of noteworthy moments. Wigan continued their remarkable recent run by st ...
