Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal missed out on signing Angel Di Maria for NOTHING. Argentinian superstar Di Maria, 26, joins a long list of big names - including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Yaya Toure and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who nearly joined the Gunners when they were youngsters. Di Maria cost a British record £59.7m when he moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United in the summer, but Wenger admitted they nearly got him when he was just 17. But Wenger says the deal fell through because they could not get Di Maria a work permit - and they now face the same battle as they try to sign Villarreal's Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista. Wenger has called for work permits to be SCRAPPED and borders to be "opened up completely" in football as he claims it is unfair to stop non-European players coming to the Premier League. "We had identified Di Maria when he was 17," he said. "We wanted him to come here. So he goes to Portugal [with Benfica], from Portugal he goes to Spain. Why? Because he could not . ...

Barclays Premier League Transfer Window in January 2015 Arsenal What they need in a nutshell: The same old story Window shopping: Everyone knows what they need - a centre-half and a defensive midfielder - and Arsene Wenger said at the club's AGM in October (external) that he would "try" to strengthen at the back in January. But "trying" and "doing" are two different things. Arsenal were top of the table at the start of 2014 and crying out for a new striker, yet Wenger did not sign a single player to help their title bid. If Wenger is not going to pay over the odds to buy anyone when he has a chance of winning the title, then why would he spend when his side are not contenders? The truth is that his side can probably finish in the top four with what he has already got. Fabio Capello has revealed that Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger turned down his advice to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez. The Spanish stopper moved to Milan from Real Madrid during the summer after spending two seasons as the first-choice stopper at Santiago Bernabeu. Russia coach Capello, who managed Lopez at Real, says that he recommended the 32-year-old to Wenger during his time as England boss. "Diego Lopez is a good keeper and he will be good for AC Milan. For them to choose Diego Lopez, I am really happy," FourFourTwo quotes Capello as saying. "I spoke with Arsene Wenger when I was with the England national team. I told him to buy Diego Lopez because he is good. He didn't have a problem but he said, 'My keeper is good.'" Capello managed England between 2007 and 2012
BALE TO LEAVE MADRID? Talk of Gareth Bale leaving the Santiago Bernabeu is picking up speed as Spanish paper SPORT report that Real Madrid have already lined up the Welshman's replacement. Apparently Real would be happy to cash in on Bale if they can secure a deal for Marco Reus, who's thought to have a release clause of around £20m in his Borussia Dortmund contract. Real would still demand north of £100m for Bale, however, which leaves Manchester United with a big decision to make following reports that Louis Van Gaal has personally requested the winger. Manuel Esteban Manolet told La Goleada: "Wenger has called Rene Ramos, the agent and brother of Sergio Ramos," The North Londoners' defensive frailties have been exposed once more throughout an up-and-down season, and Wenger is said to have identified Ramos as the man to quell their shortcomings at the back.

Arsene Wenger admits club legend Thierry Henry may return to Arsenal in a coaching capacity. The Frenchman scored 227 goals during his first spell in North London, before adding another one to his tally during a loan return to the club in 2012. Speculation has been rife that Henry could return for a third stint at the club, with his career in MLS with New York Red Bulls drawing to a close, and Wenger admits that a return to the Emirates could be on the cards in the future. "It's not something that's current,” he told L’Equipe . “And then there must be a post available. For the moment, that's not the case. But it's not impossible.” Wenger also aired his belief that Henry would be best served by emulating Zinedine Zidane when he finally hangs up his boots, and manage a reserve team before stepping up to a senior team. "He is better to have responsibility for a team, like Zidane at Real Madrid,” Wenger added. “Because you learn to handle a dressing room, to handle personalities. This trade, it's ...

The Germany international is recovering from a knee ligament injury suffered on international duty, with the timeframe for his return set back until after the turn of the year. Ozil has been criticised for some under-par showings in the early weeks of the Premier League season, though Wenger puts that down to tiredness after winning the World Cup, and the former Monaco boss believes that the midfielder's return will coincide with improved performances. "I think, at Real, he played in a very strong team," the Arsenal manager told BeIn Sports, "and he had a very good season with us last year. "But he had the World Cup and came back tired. Arsenal ‘want to sack Arsene Wenger and hire Real Madrid manager - (Via MorDanDem)
‘Now I understand why at the the age of 19, 20 or 21 he was the Arsenal captain. He is not the captain here because we have a different philosophy, but his personality and his profile is fantastic. His brain is connected to my brain during the matches. Chelsea manger Jose Mourinho has hailed Cesc Fabregas after his hot start to life at Stamford Bridge, and admits that the Spanish midfielder’s professionalism has exceeded even his own high expectations. Owing to his time in charge of Real Madrid, Mourinho was thought to have a tense relationship with the then-Barcelona star prior to this summer, but the Portuguese boss jumped at the chance to bring him back to England when it became clear that his services were no longer required at the Camp Nou. Mesut Ozil missed one game in all of his three years at Real Madrid due to injury. At Arsenal he has missed 6 months of his first year there. Now, it might just be me, but Arsene Wenger must be training his players wrong, or doing something not quite right. It is the only way you can account for all the injuries Arsenal get, it us truly amazing. I know some would turn around and say "it is the Premier League, it is a lot more aggressive." But even then, other teams don't get the amount of injuries Arsenal do, at an incredible rate to. Arsene Wenger must be missing something.

Arsenal has reached an agreement with Real Madrid and Spanish number one goalkeeper, Iker Casillas and could be on his way to the red and white area of North London soon. His issues started with Jose Mourinho, towards the end of the season, in the Portuguese coach’s time at the club last year. Casillas, whose woes continued into the last season, had to make transfer plans by reason of his club’s acquisition of Keylor Navas, the Costa Rican goalkeeper, from fellow La Liga outfit, Levante. The Spaniard is said to be set for crunch meetings with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez to discuss his future at the world football giants. At the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the Spanish number one with his teammates suffered a shameful exit, with t ...

Breaking news on request - Arsenal Transfer News - Latest on Morata: Alvaro Morata Talks Hit Snag - Arsene Wenger has reopened his pursuit of Alvaro Morata, but the deal may have hit a hitch after Real Madrid indicated their wish to insert a buyback clause into the 21-year-old's contract if he moves away from the Spanish capital. Real are understood to be willing to negotiate on Morata, but the Spaniards ideally want a buy-back agreement on the highly-rated Spaniard. It is understood Real want the option of taking Morata back to the Bernabeu in the first two years of his contract at another club. Such an agreement is unlikely to excite Wenger and Arsenal fans too much. Morata's development across the next couple of years is vital, and if the Gunners give him an opportunity to shine, it would be highly irritating to lose the forward when he is suddenly deemed worthy of a regular place in the Los Blancos side. Real exercised this option when recently re-buying Dani Carvajal from Bayer Leverkusen, a player w ...

Assessing Arsenal: The need to strengthen By Max Bentley | May 19, 2014 3:34:09 AM PDT Transfer Windows for Arsenal fans are like opening a Christmas present from your grandmother -- you just don't know what to expect. Arsene Wenger pulled off a real coup when he landed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid before demonstrating his familiar January stubbornness by only adding Spartak Moscow midfielder Kim Kallstrom to his injury-ravaged squad -- an odd signing given the Swede was injured at the time as well. Having led the Premier League standings for 128 days this season, Arsenal witnessed their title challenge collapse following a series of humiliating performances on the road and untimely injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Ozil. A comeback FA Cup win over Hull showed the squad have some fight in them, but changes are still required. So, what does Wenger need to do in order to close the gap on their rivals and end Arsenal's 11-year wait for the league title? Striking the balance "To be comp ...

ARSENAL TRANSFER UPDATE 8th May, 2014. German international recommends Arsene Wenger makes move to bring youngster to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has recommended that Arsene Wenger makes a move for unhappy Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze according to Football Direct News. The youngster moved to the Allianz Arena in a £33m deal last summer but has played something of a limited role this term leading to speculation that the German international may look to make a swift exit from the Bundesliga outfit. Gotze has publicly spoken of his dissatisfaction with life in Bavaria, stating; ‘Of course I’m not happy,’ he said. ‘I want to win back the trust of the coach to play more.’ The 21 year old has started 20 of Bayern Munich’s 33 Bundesliga fixtures but perhaps more tellingly failed to make the starting eleven in either of his side’s encounters with Real Madrid in their recent Champions League semi-final clash which has led to a great deal of interest in the goal-scoring midfielder ...
Eight knockout wins in 16 years - Arsenal are serial Champions League failures. Arsene Wenger prides himself on his side’s long run of successive appearances in the last 16, but their record in the knockout stages is abysmal Since the rebranding of the European Cup in 1992, just six clubs have participated in the Champions League group stages more times than Arsenal; Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, AC Milan, Porto and Tuesday's opponents Bayern Munich. Given that the Gunners didn’t enter Europe’s premier club competition until 1998, this represents a significant achievement. Furthermore, only Man Utd and Real Madrid have registered more successive Champions League appearances than Arsenal’s 16 consecutive campaigns from 1998-99 to 2013-14. And with United failing to make it out of their pools in both 2005-06 and 2011-12, only Madrid better Arsenal’s 14 years of uninterrupted progression from the opening group phase. SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Spain is set to be divided once again tonight at 22:30 as Barcelona take on Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia. With Atletico Madrid seemingly running away with the league title, this El Clasico is expected to be like no other. The stakes will be high as it is possibly both teams' best chance of winning a trophy this season. Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil will be available for Arsenal's match with Hull City this weekend. The £42m club-record signing from Real Madrid has not played since March 11 because of a hamstring injury. He missed Arsenal's 3-1 Premier League victory over West Ham United on Tuesday, a result which saw the Gunners climb above Everton and back into the top four. Wenger confirmed to reporters after the game that Ozil could be in the squad for the trip to Hull on Sunday, a preview of the FA Cup final which will be played between the two sides at Wembley in May. The German international has scored six goals in 35 appearances for the Londoners this season.
Is it really a collapse if everyone sees it coming? Arsenal's fall from the top of the table has been predicted since early autumn. With the season-opening defeat against Aston Villa behind them, Arsene Wenger's side, buoyed by the acquisition of Real Madrid star Mesut Özil and the spectacular form of Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey, were sweeping aside the competition. But even when the Gunners began December seven points clear of second-placed Liverpool, there were doubts about their ability to mount a sustained title challenge. More from our team sites Arsenal Arsenal blog The Short Fuse Why? There were a number of reasons, not all of them good ones. Undoubtedly, many were talking down Arsenal's chances simply because they didn't want to see the Gunners as a legitimate contender, but to chalk up the skepticism -- much of it now proven right -- to bias, as was done at the time, is little short of lunacy. The truth of the matter is that Arsenal's plummet down the table was pre-ordained, more controlled de ...
ROB SHEPHERD: Roberto Martinez is emerging as the leading a candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal but they face competition from Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to sign Chelsea’s David Luiz this summer for £38million.
Arsenal Back in For £8m Alvaro Morata Arsenal’s striking issues have been well documented this season, with an over-relied upon Olivier Giroud running out steam, and Nicklas Bendtner a lost cause, tripping somewhere around central Europe in a hat. With that in mind, Arsene Wenger is stepping up his search for a new recruit this summer, and has held fresh talks with Real Madrid over a summer move for Alvaro Morata, according to the Mirror. The Mirror claim that a deal is very much in the offing at around the £8 million mark, though only if Arsenal are willing to agree to a buy-back clause. The Spain U-21 striker’s star has fallen at Madrid this season, the emergence of Jese and the arrival of Bale leaving him relegated to the fringes, and the striker is aware he now needs to move to start playing for the foreseeable future.

Real Madrid star should reject Man United in favour of Arsenal. Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata would be the main man at Arsenal, but only a supporting act at United. United & Arsenal could fight for Morata. This season aside, there’s not many things Arsenal can claim to have done better than Manchester United in the last few years. Offering plenty of first team experience to young stars looking to make a name for themselves in the game would be one. Whilst United can lay claim to having honed the skills of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, it’s their North London rivals and more specifically their long serving coach Arsene Wenger who are synonymous with taking an impressive young player, putting them in the Emirates machine and churning out a burgeoning superstar. It’s for this reason, amongst others such as Champions League football and a higher domestic finish, that the Gunners will surely have the upper hand when it comes to enticing starlets this summer. Would Mesut Ozil have left Real Madrid to play for David Moyes, Brendan Rodgers or Tim Sherwood? He probably does not even know who they are. Last year, Everton finished 6th in the Premier League. David Moyes then joined Manchester United. He then spent the summer trying, and struggling, to recruit players from Europe. The money was there, Manchester United, one of the biggest names in world football, were Champions, so why did he struggle? My theory is players, when told that David Moyes wanted them at Manchester United, answered ‘David Who?’ – He ended up signing just one player, who used to play for him, and who he did not really want. Another question: Who currently manages the 6th placed team in Spain, Germany, France & Italy?Hint:The clubs Real Sociedad, Borussia Monchengladbach, Marseille & Parma. Not only do you not know, players will not know. Despite ...
Whenever I look at the PDP and GEJ.i see the winning character of Barcelona in them...the strength of Real Madrid...the never say die spirit of Man U and the tenacity of Man City. But when i look at the APC..all I see is the unfortunate character of the Arsenal team.starting strong and crashing out when the chips are down... A club(party) that uses Giroud(Buhari) as its top striker does not desire winning that much. With a coach like Arsene Wenger(Tinubu)...returns mean much through training and selling of younger players (Ribadu)... If you truly desire a successful career I would advise that you seek the right team.GEJ means well...
I suspend my being Arsenal fan till that weakling, Arsene Wenger leave Emirate. He has very weak mentality i cannot put up with further. Going back to my traditional club-Real Madrid. Hala.
I have always been a critic of Arsene Wenger, especially during Nasri's last season at Arsenal ! ..Until i fully understood just a fraction of what happens behind the scenes ! Whether you like it or not, Arsenal is run differently, we are a self sustaining club, which means we dont have a filthy rich owner with his *** soaked in oil to pump ridiculous amounts of money, to simply buy success. It may sound a lot better and easier, but on the long run, is it really ? i mean, just imagine if abramovich leaves, what sponsor will be able to fund the hideous wages of the chelsea players ? thats exactly what happened to leeds utd ! Wenger has made Arsenal into a stable club, think of it as your house powering itself, without having to depend on electricity and gas from other sources !! Wenger had limited funds during the years due to the fact of the Emirates being built ! The emirates was an investment, capacity is higher, which means more income, best (quality) stadium in the league, meaning tickets are a tad hi ...

Rafa Benitez is much more successful coach than Arsene Wenger because with three different teams in not 18 years but much less he won the same number of trophies as Arsene Wenger. 1) CF Valencia - 2001-2002 Spanish Champion, 2003-2004 Spanish Champion, 2003-2004 The Winner of Cup UEFA ( now Europa League ) 2) FC Liverpool - 2004-2005 The Winner of Champions League 3) FC Chelsea - 2012-2013 - The Winner of Europa League The problem with the fans of Arsene Wenger is that they try to convince that the winning of English Premiership is worth more than winning of Champions League which is of course utter nonsence due to knowing that in Champions League play the Gians like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona FC which means how much stronger is that competition than the ordinary English Premiership.
Man u was not going to beat Bayern Munich. Even worse now with R. V. Percy out for 6wks, it will never ever manage a draw home or away. My predictions- Munchen, Paris S.G. Barca, and Real Madrid to go through. I seize this oportunity to congratulate my coach, the best, Arsene Wenger for managing 1000 Arsenal matches, and to hope that now that his financial woes are over the next 500 matches will bring in even more trophies than the first 500 did, and they were indeed many. Yes! I see him playing another 500.
Jose Mourinho says: I admires Arsenal for sticking with Arsene Wenger through 'a lot' of dark days. 'The tribute is to say we would love to have the same privilege with our clubs,' Mourinho said.' I admire Wenger and I admire Arsenal, a club that stands by their manager in bad moments - of which there were quite a lot. ''It's not against him. It's Chelsea against Arsenal. 'I didn't even play Arsenal with Inter Milan or with Real Madrid or with Porto, I just played with Chelsea. 'It's Chelsea-Arsenal, Arsenal-Chelsea, it's not me against him. 'Records don't play any role. A match is a match. It's not coach against coach, it's team against team.'
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is the best-paid coach in world football, according to a new list released on Tuesday. French weekly sports publication France Football have published their annual rich list, which shows Mourinho is now out-earning his coaching nemesis, Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola – who has the second-largest coaching salary in the world game. The Blues boss – who earns a cool €17m a year – had suggested he took a pay cut to return to Stamford Bridge last summer, but that assertion has been dashed by the latest index. Arsene Wenger is the next best-paid Premier League boss, receiving little over half that of Mourinho, while former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is enjoying a bumper pay day at Galatasaray, having left the Etihad last summer. Mancini squeezes into the top three, edging ahead of Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti on €14m a year. Despite receiving a €1.5m pay rise after quitting Paris Saint-Germain for the Bernabeu, Ancelotti - who was on the podium in l . ...

The Arsenal fans in the top tier of the Allianz Arena left no room for doubt. 'Wemberlee, Wemberlee,' was the chant; they had travelled 570 miles to sing about a stadium on their doorstep. It was not that they wanted to exit the Champions League at the last 16 stage for the fourth successive season, but rather they knew the limitations of their team and where their chance for success lies. After nine long, arduous years without a trophy Arsenal just want to win something. Anything. Even the Emirates Cup would be a starting point. An FA Cup victory would do very nicely. With Wigan, Hull City and Sheffield United the only teams standing in their way it would be genuinely embarrassing if they do not win the trophy for the 11th time in their history. Yet Tuesday night in Munich presented both an opportunity and an obvious danger. Despite the travails of Mesut Ozil it will have given Arsene Wenger great heart that his side proved up to the test in Bavaria. A 1-1 draw was perhaps slightly fortunate, but in the ...

Arsene Wenger: "Bayern Less Dangerous Than Real! Arsene Told Eurosport: "Last year, Ribery and Robben were playing together and they were in great shape, so Bayern were really powerful going forward. "This year they still have an awful lot of possession, but I think they're less dangerous. I think we saw that at Arsenal. Even though we were playing with 10 players (following the sending off of Wojciech Szczesny) they didn't really create an awful lot." And Wenger has seen enough of the Spanish side to think of them as contenders to win the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2002. The Frenchman said: "Real Madrid right now are on a par with anything. For me, this is the team with the best balance...!!!"

Under-fire Arsenal play-maker Mesut Ozil has reportedly begged Arsene Wenger to let him keep taking penalties – Despite missing his last two spot-kicks. Ozil was widely slammed after missing from the spot during the Gunners’ crucial Champions League last 16 first leg clash with Bayern Munich in midweek. The German won the penalty with his clever footwork, but his poor effort wasted the perfect chance for Arsenal to go ahead against the Bundesliga giants. It’s the second time he has missed from 12 yards for Arsenal this term, having also failed to convert one against Marseille, while Ozil also has a poor penalty record from his time at Real Madrid. We still love u ozil keep it up! Come on gunners.
Ozil affected by penalty miss London - Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil has not got over his penalty miss in the Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, Manager Arsene Wenger said before backing his side to bounce back strongly against Sunderland on Saturday. The 42 million-pound signing from Real Madrid had the opportunity to give his side an early lead against the European Champions, but his tame spot-kick was saved by Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer. German midfielder Ozil apologised for his mistake but has not full recovered from the trauma. "Certainly not," the Frenchman told a news conference on Friday. "Forty-eight hours is a bit short to get over that. It's part of the job to deal with disappointment and show you can respond to it," Wenger added. "He apologised after the game. I don't that think people are shocked he missed a penalty, Bayern missed a penalty as well, it's just he takes his penalties in an unusual way. "I believe that at the moment I have to let him recover from that. I have seen thi ...

Arsene Wenger needs to go, I've had enough. Don't know what came to his mind when he started yaya sanago. Arsenal is destroying Mesut Ozil, it's not as fun and exciting watching him play like when he was at Real Madrid with world class players around him. His decreasing from a world class attacking mid to a normal average good player.

This time with Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil, signed by Wenger from Real Madrid last August, expected to start and Jack Wilshere returning to Arsenal's starting line-up he hopes to inflict a second defeat in 35 matches on European Champions Bayern Munich.

Arsenal have abandoned their pursuit of Diego Costa following lukewarm scouting reports, Goal can reveal. Arsene Wenger and his staff had identified the prolific striker as a potential target for both January and during the longer summer Transfer Window. As revealed by Goal, Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley instructed his team to *** Costa twice in a week at the Vicente Calderon in December, in a Copa del Rey clash against Sant Andreu and a Liga match against Levante. Premier League - Arsenal half-year turnover up 28 per cent to $227 million Title-chasing Arsenal have announced half-year turnover of £136 million from football activities, making their lack of transfer business in January all the more difficult to understand. The figures covered the six months to November 30, 2013 and represent a 28 per cent rise. The results showed a group loss of 2.2 million pounds before tax but that was mainly caused by the investment Manager Arsene Wenger made in his squad in the close season. Arsenal shattered their club record in September when they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.5 million but spent no money in the January window. Their only deal last month was the loan signing of Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom from Spartak Moscow. "Whilst youth development continues to be an important focus we fully recognise the importance of getting the balance right between youth and experience," Arsenal chairman Chips Keswick said. "We signed Mesut Ozil for a club record transfe ...

Revealed: Who Beckham backs in title race - not Arsenal, not Liverpool Former Manchester United star tips Manchester City or Chelsea to overhaul the Gunners. Six-time Premier League winner David Beckham, 38, believes there is something special about the return of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea - something that the other challengers for the title lack, because, out of the three clubs vying for the crown, it is Mourinho who has the most modern experience in finishing as champion. Manchester City's Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini has not won a league title since 2003, when he claimed the Argentinean Primera Division with River Plate. One year later, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger won his last title, however, Jose Mourinho won La Liga with Real Madrid in 2012 and has finished atop of the division in every country he has managed in - Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.
