Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed he wanted to bring Angel Di Maria to the Premier League as he was bursting through the ranks as a teenager in Argentina, only for England's strict work permit rules to scupper any potential move to the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal missed out on signing Angel Di Maria for NOTHING. Argentinian superstar Di Maria, 26, joins a long list of big names - including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Yaya Toure and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who nearly joined the Gunners when they were youngsters. Di Maria cost a British record £59.7m when he moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United in the summer, but Wenger admitted they nearly got him when he was just 17. But Wenger says the deal fell through because they could not get Di Maria a work permit - and they now face the same battle as they try to sign Villarreal's Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista. Wenger has called for work permits to be SCRAPPED and borders to be "opened up completely" in football as he claims it is unfair to stop non-European players coming to the Premier League. "We had identified Di Maria when he was 17," he said. "We wanted him to come here. So he goes to Portugal [with Benfica], from Portugal he goes to Spain. Why? Because he could not . ...

Manchester United are making it difficult for Arsenal to sign Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal after joining the race for his services as they prepare to meet his £15million buy-out clause, Express reports. The 24-year-old is already the subject of an earlier bid from Arsene Wenger, involving a loan move for Joel Campbell along with a £5million fee attached to the deal. However, with interest heating up, the La Liga side is now considering a full money offer from either clubs if they are to begin negotiations over the potential switch. Both teams have made a defensive signing a priority during the January window and could be prepared to meet his acceptable fee in light of Paulista's revelation to play in England. He said: “The subject is being discussed by my agent and the club. “If I go to Arsenal it will be excellent. But if it's not finalised then I am relaxed. I am focused on my work here. “My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm. “Playing in the Premier League is one of my ...

Arsene Wenger has just left every other team in the Premier League shaking in their football boots after suggesting Alexis Sanchez can get even better. The Chile star scored twice and assisted another as Arsenal eased past Stoke City with a 3-0 victory. Sanchez's stunning solo effort for his first goal came shortly after he had set Laurent Koscielny up for the opener. He capped off the man of the match performance with a second half strike from a free-kick. Since signing from Barcelona in the summer for £32 million, the 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions and assisted nine. Having been involved in 19 Premier League goals, he is currently the most effective player in England's top division. IMPROVING ON PERFECTION Despite his incredible form, Wenger has suggested Sanchez can get even better, possibly moving up to the level that Luis Suarez reached at Liverpool before his summer move to Barcelona. Arsenal striker, Yaya Sanogo has undergone a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a loan move to Selhurst Park report claims. The 21 year old was close to joining to Bordeaux a couple of days ago after the club’s president gave Arsenal an ultimatum to accept an offer. But despite, Sanogo wishes to join the French side, Arsene Wenger had from the beginning said that a loan move to a Premier League club was preferable to him so that he can develop in the league. And he reiterated that position last week Friday when he said the former Auxerre striker will go out on loan but to a club within the league.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Alexis Sanchez’ "amazing" quality after the Chilean inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Sunday. Alexis set up the opening goal for Laurent Koscielny on six minutes before striking twice himself to take his goal tally to 19 in all competitions and seal a deserved win for Arsene Wenger's men. With 13 goals and seven assists, the Chilean has now been directly involved in over half of Arsenal's 37 Premier League goals this season and Oxlade-Chamberlain has no doubts about his team-mate's talent. "Alexis is amazing. He shows it week in week out and that's the most important thing for top players to do," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. "It's about consistency and it's not good enough to just be good one week, everyone wants to see you being great every week. "Alexis has done that all the way through the season. A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly confronting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during their 2-0 Premier League loss to Southampton on New Year's Day, reports the BBC. Luke Bryant, 25, from Lymington in Hampshire is said to have broken the laws outlined in the 1991 Football Offences Act by taking to the technical area and going up to Wenger. Mr Bryant will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on January 22. The incident occurred with Wenger's Gunners side losing to their hosts and comes just weeks after the Frenchman was abused by supporters as he left Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. As is almost tradition every season now, many unhappy fans want the 65-year-old to leave the North London club for what they perceive as poor form from their team. Wenger was the subject of a campaign to force him out of the Emirates Stadium earlier in 2014/15 as well when a 'Wenger Out' banner was revealed during the match at West Bromwich Albion.

Chuba Akpom has set his sights on becoming a first-team regular at Arsenal after making his second appearance in the defeat to Southampton. The young striker replaced Mathieu Debuchy with six minutes to go on Thursday as Arsenal chased a way back into the game at St Mary's Stadium. Akpom was unable to prevent a 2-0 Premier League defeat but, after impressing for the club's under-21 side this season with nine goals in as many games, he hopes to keep catching the eye of Arsene Wenger and receive more first-team opportunities. "I'm really feeling part of the team," the 19-year-old told the club's official website. "I'm starting to train with them a bit more and I'm getting more of a feel about how it is to be on the bench. "I'm just dying to get on every game and every minute counts. I try my best to make the most of each opportunity that I get, so when I went out there I just gave 100 per cent. 3 major transfer stories: - Podolski to Inter is all but done. Arsene Wenger has said "Look, the first proposal was farcical. Of course [we are open to discussion]. After they come back a bit more serious then we will see what happens." To follow the trend of Judas being "injured" before his move to United and the snake being "injured" before is move to Barca, Podolski's "injury" is a step in the same direction. Majority of the outlets, like Telegraph, are claiming that Podolski's 6-month loan move, which will reportedly have a £5m-option-to-buy, will be announced within 48 hours. Gazetta Dello Sport claim Podolski could be in Milan as early as tomorrow. - In addition, Bordeaux are becoming increasingly confident of landing Sanogo on a loan deal despite Wenger preferring him to go to another Premier League club like Aston Villa. Bordeaux's main striker, Diabate, is injured which could expedite the process - And finally, *** Marin says Real Sociedad are very interested in taking Campbell (unclear whet ...
SHOCKING! The moment an angry fan confronted Wenger during Saints loss As if Arsene Wenger's New Year's Day wasn't bad enough, the Arsenal boss was confronted by a supporter on the touchline during his side's 2-0 loss at Southampton. With the Gunners trailing late on, the fan appeared to remonstrate with the Frenchman, just weeks after he was abused by travelling Arsenal fans at a train station, following another defeat at Stoke City. It remains unclear which whether the pitch invader at St Mary's was a home or away fan, as some reports suggested he could have been a Saints supporter goading the Arsenal bench. Defeat at Southampton was Arsenal's first Premier League reverse since losing at the Britannia Stadium on 6 December, and leaves them three points behind the fourth-placed Saints. The supporter was given short shrift by Wenger's assistant, Steve Bould, before being led away by stewards. It follows protests against Wenger during Arsenal's 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion, in which supporters unfurled ...

Arsene Wenger [on the Christmas period]: “It’s more than the day. “It’s the period that is very important. The day has something special because it’s called Boxing Day and it’s famous all over the world. “Everybody knows that Boxing Day is the only day when only England plays. Overall it maybe contributes to the fact that the Premier League is so famous. “We played QPR two years ago and they were very difficult games. West Ham at the moment are in very good shape. We go away to Southampton, which is a very difficult schedule as well. “There are three games in a very short period of time and we can make points. Our opponents will think that as well, but let’s just put the performances in and capitalise on it. The consistency in that period is what will matter.”

Premier LeaguE TALK: It was a Saturday of the Long Knives as Chelsea's hitherto "unbeaten" record finally came tumbling down like a house of cards at the hands of "minnows" Newcastle United. Not even the tired legs of oldman Didier Drogba could turn around the fortunes of "The Bus" that had already been turned upside down by Senegalese attacker Papisse Cisse as Chelsea mounted a weak "resurgence" that barely lasted 10 minutes resulting in their only goal but still ended up being hit 2-1.After the Chelsea game,it was the turn of the established "Pretenders" to the EPL throne(known to keep position four as theirs for keeps).Arsenal visiting Stoke City (Wana Beba Beba),hoping to win and at least occupy their traditional number four spot but alas!.They were shocked by the fastest goal of the Premier League after langy Peter Crouch scored a goal after only 31 seconds!.Crouch scored the goal even as underperforming Arsene Wenger was walking towards his seat to start "enjoying" the match! At half-time,a resilient ...
Arsenal Star Alexis Sanchez: "English football suits me" Alexis Sanchez has told The Times that the more "direct" style of football in England suits his game better than the Barcelona approach. Sanchez, 25, had joined Barca in 2011 after excelling in Serie A with Udinese, but he struggled to show his best form in Spain as the club went through a succession of managerial changes. This summer, he made the move to Arsenal and has made an instant impact, with nine league goals in 13 games, and manager Arsene Wenger has suggested he has adapted to the Premier League as well as any other player in history. "It cost me a lot to adapt to playing the Barcelona way," the Chile international told the newspaper. "The first year was OK and then the second year I was better, but I needed time. "Arsenal play beautiful football, but Barcelona play in a way that no other team in the world does. English football is more direct, more end to end, but I like that. It suits the way I want to play." -TH
With a hectic Christmas fixture list looming, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger faces a dilemma over prize asset Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean forward, a marquee summer signing from Barcelona, has been a shining light during Arsenal's disappointing start to the season, scoring 14 goals in 22 appearances for the North London club. Loath to rest the 25-year-old as Arsenal continue to play catch-up in the Premier League, Wenger is also wary of burning out a player who has almost single-handedly kept his side in touching distance of the top four. Wenger ignores fans' banner Arsene Wenger vowed to continue to ignore his critics after seeing Arsenal win 1-0 at West Brom in the Premier League. The Frenchman came under fire from a section of Gunners fans at The Hawthorns on Saturday as they unveiled a banner reading 'Arsene, thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye'. Victory, earned by Danny Welbeck's second-half header, saw Arsenal seal successive wins after their 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night. Arsenal fans remain frustrated with the Gunners' failure to compete for the title, though, with some calling for Wenger to leave after 18 years in charge. However, the Gunners boss, who refused to answer questions about the banner, was unmoved. Wenger said: "I don't comment on that. Do I need to say it again? I don't comment on your question." The billionaire, who owns more than 30% of the club but is not on the board of directors, gave an interview this week suggesting Wenger has not learned from past mistakes. Although Usmanov's tone was broadly supportive, he also said Arsenal need new players in every position to compete with the best clubs in England and Europe - claims which struck a chord with some supporters disillusioned after four wins from 12 Premier League games this season. Wenger was asked for a response ahead of the Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, when a draw or better will guarantee a knockout place for the 15th year running. He said: "Over the 18 years I've been here I've shown I can take criticism, and everybody has the right to an opinion. "Having said that, we have values at this club. The first is that when we go through a difficult patch we show solidar ...
Mikel Arteta knows Arsenal must be more ruthless after a defeat to Manchester United that the midfielder described as "not fair".United were 2-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium to move above Arsene Wenger's side in the Premier League table on Saturday. Arsenal lost by the same scoreline at Swansea City before the international break and are down in eighth place after the first 12 top-flight games. Captain Arteta felt the defeat was harsh on Arsene Wenger's side, but realises they must make the most of their dominance in matches if they are to challenge for honours. "I'm shocked," said the former Everton man. "I think we played our best game this season in terms of what we demand of ourselves - the quality in the way we attacked, how we won the ball back, how consistent we were throughout, the amount of chances we created. "When you are in the box and you can't manage to score in that many situations, you can't expect to win. "It's not fair for the players and the fans. How can I explain the result? I can' ...
Gunless Arsenal brought down by United. Wayne Rooney led Manchester United back into the top four of the Premier League with a smash-and-grab 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. On the back of a successful week with England, the United captain secured victory with a coolly-taken 85th- minute chip over Arsenal substitute goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Rooney's strike added to a comedy own-goal by Kieran Gibbs that saw the left-back deflect Antonio Valencia's cross into his own net after a mix-up with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who was injured in the process. Olivier Giroud, on as a second-half substitute, replied deep into stoppage time for Arsenal, but United held on to record a first competitive away win since April 5. The victory took Louis Van Gaal's side back into the Champions League places, 13 points behind leaders Chelsea. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was left to rue an afternoon of wasted opportunities and inspired goalkeeping by United's David de Gea, as well as injur ...
Man Utd VS ARSENAL HEAD TO HEAD!!! Manchester United have lost just one of their last 14 matches against Arsenal in all competitions (W10, D3, L1). That sole Arsenal win came courtesy of Aaron Ramsey's goal at the Emirates in May 2011. The clubs have met 219 times in all competitions. Manchester United lead by 92 wins to Arsenal's 79 and there have been 48 draws. Arsenal have lost to Manchester United 20 times in the Premier League, more than they have against any other team. Arsenal have dropped a league-high nine points from winning positions this season, as many as they did in the whole of 2013-14. Their two lowest points totals after 11 games under Arsene Wenger have come in the past three seasons (16 in 2012-13, 17 this season). Arsenal's four Premier League wins this season have come against teams currently in the bottom seven of the table. They last recorded fewer wins at this stage of a season in 1981-82. Alexis Sanchez has scored 12 goals in his last 14 matches for Arsenal in all competitions, in ...
Former Man Utd teammates Welbeck, Rooney prepares for “weird” match as Arsenal hosts Red Devils Wayne Rooney, Danny WelbeckAP Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney have spent a lot of time on the pitch together at Manchester United and with the English national team, so it’s going to be a little weird when the two face off on Saturday at 12:30 pm ET on NBC. Perhaps complicating the situation more is that the pair just completed a rollicking pair of wins as England stars on the international break, and Welbeck, of course, is at Arsenal. The 6-foot, 23-year-old striker has two goals and two assists in 8 Premier League matches for Arsenal this season, plus a trio of goals in the UEFA Champions League. His fine form after being sold by his hometown club has, quite obviously, not escaped the eyes of his manager Arsene Wenger. [ PL PREVIEW: Arsenal vs. Manchester United ] “You can take every challenge in a positive way and that’s what he did,” Wenger said. “Rooney and Van Persie have an exceptional goals ...

Wenger: Ozil will be back to his best after injury lay-off The Arsenal boss feels that the World Cup left the German midfielder with little energy while he also denies that there is a rift between Alexis Sanchez and the ex-Real Madrid man Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal fans will see the best of Mesut Ozil when he returns from his latest injury lay-off. The Germany international is recovering from a knee ligament injury suffered on international duty, with the timeframe for his return set back until after the turn of the year. Ozil has been criticised for some under-par showings in the early weeks of the Premier League season, though Wenger puts that down to tiredness after winning the World Cup, and the former Monaco boss believes that the midfielder's return will coincide with improved performances. "I think, at Real, he played in a very strong team," the Arsenal manager told BeIn Sports, "and he had a very good season with us last year. "But he had the World Cup and came back tired. We will see ...
What Makes Jose Mourinho Different From Others? “Mourinho is the world’s best manager.” – Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid and ex-Machester United player. One of the only five managers to win European Cup with two different clubs and the winner of the first FIFA Ballon d’oR Best Coach Award, Jose Mourinho, has been regarded as the best manager of his age. The Portuguese coach has so far lead Chelsea to the top of the table amazingly this season. After all, he’s not the ‘Special One’ for nothing. The 51-year-old is the youngest among his other leading counterparts in Premier League including Arsene Wenger, Louis Van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini, but has experienced more successful stints with various clubs than any other manager. ‘Winners don’t do different things; they do things differently.’ Jose Mourinho, like every successful person, possesses some special qualities crucial for achieving success. But what makes him different from the others? Some will say he was born with the understa ...
• Sanchez scores sixth goal in his last four league games • Arsenal lose their second league match this season • Gylfi Sigurdsson scores his second goal of the campaign • Swansea have claimed 13 points from 18 at home Swansea came from behind with two late goals to claim a memorable win over Arsenal at the Liberty Stadium. Arsenal took the lead when Alexis Sanchez finished from close range after an excellent run and pass from Danny Welbeck. But a stunning Gylfi Sigurdsson free-kick and a fine header from substitute Bafetimbi Gomis sealed Swansea's victory. The win sees Garry Monk's men leapfrog the Gunners into fifth place in the Premier League table. For Arsene Wenger's side, meanwhile, defeat caps a miserable week after their Champions League collapse against Anderlecht on Tuesday, in which they threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3. There were some nervy moments from the Gunners' defenders, with Calum Chambers surviving a Swansea penalty appeal after appearing to shove Wilfried Bony to the g ...
Brooklyn Beckham inks his first professional contract with Arsenal Arsenal have stolen a march on their rivals and signed 15-year-old Brooklyn Beckham on a short-term deal. The Daily Star reports that the Gunners have snapped up the son of English icon David Beckham ahead of his father's former club Manchester United and cross-city rivals Chelsea. An unnamed Arsenal source told the paper: "Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played. He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club. Arsenal realise he can be a huge talent. They have seen that potential and protected their asset. The club has signed him, fending off interest from Manchester United and Chelsea in the meantime." The chances of Beckham playing in Arsenal's first team anytime soon are slim to none, but a quick glance at the fixture list tells TT that the Gunners' next Premier League match is at home to Louis van ...
Stunning comments from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who says his side must be “more realistic” about their Premier League title chances after losing 2-1 at Swansea City on Sunday. The Gunners went ahead through an Alexis Sanchez finish on 63 minutes, but a fine free kick from Glyfi Sigurdsson and a powerful header from Bafetimbi Gomis completed an impressive comeback by the Welsh side. Crucial win for Sunderland. Sunderland have climbed out of the bottom three in the Premier League after beating Crystal Palace 3-1. Neil Warnock left bewildered by the failure of the match officials to make 'major decisions' in Crystal Palace's favour. The FA will take no action against Marouane Fellaini after he was alleged to have spat at Sergio Aguero on Sunday. Sunderland made a transfer blunder in allowing Fraizer Campbell to leave the Stadium of Light, believes former team-mate Adam Johnson. Sergio Aguero has stressed the importance of Manchester City maintaining the winning habit as they pursue Chelsea. Arsene Wenger has given the green light for Theo Walcott to report for England duty.
Match stats: • Wojciech Szczesny is available after serving a one-game suspension on matchday three. • A second-half double from Alexis Sanchez, taking his tally to five in his last four appearances, and Calum Chambers' first goal in senior football helped the North London club to a 3-0 defeat of Burnley on Saturday. • Arsene Wenger's side have gone 23 home matches unbeaten in the Premier League, since a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa on the opening day of last season. • Arsenal have won four of their ten league games this season, four fewer than at the same stage last term. • Standard inflicted Hasi's team's first domestic defeat of the season when they prevailed 2-0 at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on October 26. • Anderlecht responded with a 3-2 league victory at KV Kortrijk three days later. • The Purple and Whites required a 91st- minute equaliser from Cyriac to salvage a 1-1 home draw against KSC Lokeren OV on Saturday. Arsene Wenger says Kieran Gibbs is the best left back in the Premier League. He is having a terrific season.
Arsenal strike late to break Anderlecht hearts 2014-10-23 06:45 London - Late goals by Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski have handed Arsenal a dramatic 2-1 win away to Anderlecht in their Champions League clash in Brussels on Wednesday evening. An Andy Najar header in the 71st minute looked set to give the Belgian champions a rare European victory at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium until Gibbs volleyed in a Calum Chambers cross with a minute left. Substitute Podolski then struck a minute into injury time to seal all three points, to the great relief of Gunners' manager Arsene Wenger on the night of his 65th birthday. After a run of just two wins in nine games in all competitions, it looked set to be another evening to forget for Wenger, but the Frenchman can breathe a sigh of relief after a result that leaves the Premier League club in a strong position in Group D. Arsenal sit three points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund, who were convincing 4-0 winners away to Galatasaray in the night's other game, but ...
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had the chance to sign up Raheem Sterling for as little as £500,000, according to the Daily Express. The England starlet was turned down a host of Premier League clubs, including the Gunners. QPR youth coach Kevin Gallen said: “Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, they all knew…
Adrian Durham makes a candid point .Time to extricate ourselves from the past.. Arsenal were unbeaten during the 2003-04 Premier League season But they didn't capitalise on their dominance and failed in Europe Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry weren't part of best-ever Arsenal side Anyone else fed up with the fawning over the Arsenal Invincibles 10 years on? Boring. Here’s what that team achieved – failure in Europe when the Champions League was there for the taking, and at the same time they directly helped Jose Mourinho become greater than Arsene Wenger. Funny how the Wenger lovers conveniently ignore all this. The myth of the Arsenal Invincibles grows beyond all credible recognition as every year passes without another title or any Champions League success for the Gunners. There has been so little to shout about since that unbeaten season in 2004 that Arsenal fans and admirers insist on relentlessly eulogising about the awesome power and glory of the Invincibles. One Gooner is living in the past so ...

A deal never materialised and the Gooners were stuck with Manuel Almunia. Micah Richards OK, so things have gone a little sour for Micah in recent times. But depsite a persistent link to Arsenal over the last few years, Arsene Wenger still only has approximately 0.66 right-backs available to him at present. Regrets? He's had a few. FOOTBALL NEWS. Arsenal: Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud provide injury boosts Arsenal's injury problems are easing as winger Theo Walcott has returned to training, while striker Olivier Giroud is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery. England international Walcott, 25, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Arsenal's 2-0 FA Cup win against Tottenham in January. Giroud, 28, has not played since August after suffering a broken leg in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton. "Giroud is recovering very well," manager Arsene Wenger told beIN Sports. The French forward was originally expected to be out until 2015, but the Gunners' boss is hopeful he will be back in action earlier than that. "The operation went perfectly. I believe he is ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation," added Wenger. German forward Serge Gnabry also returned to training on Monday, having been out since March because of a knee problem. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apologised for shoving his Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho on the touchline during a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. "Too much importance was given to this story but I should not have reacted like this. I always regret any signs of violence and I apologise for it," the Frenchman told French TV channel TF1.
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid for Arsenal play maker Mesut Ozil. The Germany international is thought to be unhappy at the Emirates Stadium, particularly with Arsene Wenger's choice to play him on the left side of midfield rather than in his preferred role behind the centre-forward. The 25-year-old has struggled for consistency since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid for a club-record fee of £42.5m in August 2013. Bayern Munich have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Ozil, but Premier League champions City are ready to fend off any competition by making a £35m bid for the midfielder. Ozil is currently sidelined until the beginning of 2015 with a knee injury. *Talking point - should Arsenal cash in on Ozil by selling him if City makes a concrete bid?"...

The technical area spat between Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger will claim the spotlight this weekend. But of more significance to those inside Stamford Bridge will be the Blues' five-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Should Wenger be even more concerned about his failure to pursue a deal for Arsenal old boy Cesc Fabregas, who looked a cut above anything the Gunners had to offer in Chelsea's 2-0 win?
Mesut Ozil missed one game in all of his three years at Real Madrid due to injury. At Arsenal he has missed 6 months of his first year there. Now, it might just be me, but Arsene Wenger must be training his players wrong, or doing something not quite right. It is the only way you can account for all the injuries Arsenal get, it us truly amazing. I know some would turn around and say "it is the Premier League, it is a lot more aggressive." But even then, other teams don't get the amount of injuries Arsenal do, at an incredible rate to. Arsene Wenger must be missing something.
Mourinho: Arsenal should have had three red cards The Chelsea manager took exception with Arsene Wenger's movement out of his technical area to complain at a refereeing decision and argues that Martin Atkinson helped the Gunners 5 Oct 2014 17:16:00 Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was left unconcerned by a touchline altercation between himself and Arsene Wenger during his side's victory over Arsenal on Sunday and argues that the Gunners should have had three men sent off. The managerial rivals clashed during the first half of the Blues' 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, with Wenger laying his hands on the Portuguese's chest. The spat was sparked by Gary Cahill's forceful challenge on Alexis Sanchez, which Wenger felt deserved a red card. Referee Martin Atkinson showed only a caution to the England international defender and the official then called over the managers following the fracas in an attempt to calm tempers. The pair did not shake hands at full- time and Mourinho, who is yet to lose to ...
Old foes Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho were involved in an astonishing pushing match on the touchline during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League win over against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge today.
Three Points: Despite Wenger's fire, Chelsea defeat Arsenal with ease October 5, 2014 8:17:24 AM PDT By John Brewin LONDON -- A trio of thoughts on Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal in Sunday's marquee Premier League clash ... 1. Arsene Wenger's wait goes on It was a definite improvement on last season's 6-0 shellacking, but still, Arsene Wenger waits to beat Jose Mourinho. It hurt to lose on Sunday, too. Midway through the first half, the clear malevolence between the pair boiled over into an unseemly touchline pushing session, which Wenger began with a shove on his rival, who was caught out by the Frenchman's uncharacteristic aggression. An FA inquiry may await them both. - Watch: Wenger, Mourinho's touchline confrontation - Report: Courtois taken to hospital after head injury Such dugout hostilities were reflective of a game in which bad temper was often in danger of turning into uncontrolled rage. Hazard the star of the show as Gunners are put to the sword at the Bridge...and furious WENGER SHOVES Jose Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal at Stamford Bridge: Gunners undone by Eden Hazard as Arsene Wenger continues to suffer against Jose Mourinho Cesc Fabregas picked out the pass. That will have hurt. Diego Costa supplied the timely finish that gave the scoreline emphasis.Another slap in the face.Yet what should really worry Arsenal, and the rest of the Premier League, was that this was the performance that proved Chelsea were no one-man team. Yes, Costa scored -again. But he was not needed ,such was the excellence of Eden Hazard's performance.Even without Costa, Chelsea had found a way to win. Their title challenge might not hinge one man , after all.
Off colour Hazard must find his form The biggest match of the Premier League weekend sees Chelsea take on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and while the main build-up has centred on Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas, Blues supporters have found another topic of conversation equally interesting -- Eden Hazard. Despite being afforded plenty of game time by Jose Mourinho, Hazard's start to the new campaign has been indifferent, with a solitary goal, against newly promoted Leicester City, to show for his endeavours. Yes, there have been glimpses of his undoubted ability, particularly against Swansea and Manchester City, but last weekend against Aston Villa, Hazard cut a peripheral figure and was replaced after 68 minutes. Villa were there for the taking, perfect opponents for flat-track bully Hazard to punish, but it was tigerish, box-to-box midfielder Willian who stole the headlines in the 3-0 rout. The Brazilian's goal, complemented by strikes from Oscar and Diego Costa, sealed a comprehen ...

WENGER HUNGRY 4 CHELSEA REVANGE!!! Arsenal have "a big hunger" to avenge their crushing defeat against Chelsea in March, a humiliation that Arsene Wenger said on Friday he and his club would never forget. The Arsenal manager seeks his first victory over a Jose Mourinho-managed club in a dozen attempts in Sunday's big Premier League derby and the Frenchman admitted that last season's 6-0 mauling at Stamford Bridge, which marred his 1 000th game in charge, had left an indelible mark. "We will never forget last year at Chelsea and we have an opportunity to put it right," Wenger told a news conference before the return to Stamford Bridge. "We have a big hunger to put that right. "Last year's slow start exposed us to counter-attacks. It was a very bad memory but football is not made of history, it's about performance." With six points separating Arsenal from top-of-the-table Chelsea, Wenger said winning on Sunday was "vital" if his side was to stay in the Premier League race. Arsenal's midweek Champions League ...

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League match report: Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta pick up injuries and Arsene Wenger will look at the spurned chances and feel his players should have achieved more
Arsene Wenger insisted the Premier League boasts the finest attackers in world football as he spoke excitedly about the blossoming partnership between Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck.
Tottenham Hotspur-Arsenal Preview Arsenal are one of just two Premier League teams without a loss this season, yet manager Arsene Wenger still finds himself the subject of criticism. His players could help quieten the skeptics on Saturday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates in the first North London derby of the season, with the Gunners hoping to win three straight Premier League matches over their rivals for the first time. Injuries have turned the Arsenal defence into a pressing issue, and Wenger's management of the situation has drawn ire from a large section of the supporters for leaving the squad lacking depth in defence after deadline day. Help could be on the way with defenders Per Mertesacker and Kieran Gibbs said to be returning from injury. The duo were available only as substitutes in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners (2-3-0) out of the League Cup. Fellow defender Mathieu Debuchy will be out for an estimated three months after unde ...

Wenger: Ronaldo, not Drogba, was my biggest regret The Arsenal boss admits the fact that the Portuguese superstar ended up at rivals Manchester United "still hurts" and reveals he would have loved to manage the Chelsea legend 18 Sep 2014 16:00:00 Arsene Wenger has revealed his biggest regret as Arsenal manager was failing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting in 2003. Ronaldo ultimately signed for Manchester United in a deal worth just over £12 million and has gone on to achieve global superstardom at Old Trafford and Real Madrid, as well as being voted the best player in the world in 2008 and 2013. The Portuguese also won three consecutive Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with United between 2006 and 2009 while Arsenal were trophyless over the same period, and Wenger admits he wishes he had acted differently. "My biggest regret, I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo," Wenger revealed in a Huawei question and answer session. "And not only did I not get him, but he signed for Man ...
Arsenal are exploring the free Transfer Market in a desperate attempt to ease their defensive problems. The Gunners’ lack of depth in defence was apparent on Tuesday night when Arsene Wenger was left with just three senior defenders for their 2-0 defeat by Borussia Dortmund. The club are looking for a central defender to provide cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. Clubs can still sign Free Agents despite the transfer window closing on September 1. Scouts have been asked to examine short- term options Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo, who are both available and have been discussed at the club’s London Colney HQ. The pair have Premier League experience — Yobo for Everton and Norwich and Lugano with West Brom — which is key for the Gunners. Any moves, though, are a way from fruition with the club still considering their options. There was at least some good news for Wenger on Wednesday when scans on the right ankle of Jack Wilshere, injured in Germany, revealed no serious damage. Also, Mathi ...
Borussia Dortmund made it third-time lucky against Arsenal with a dominant 2-0 Champions League Group D triumph on Tuesday. Jurgen Klopp's team found themselves paired against the Premier League side for a third time in four seasons, having lost 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park last term and shared a 1-1 draw in 2011. But Arsenal had no answer to waves of furious, pacey attacks from the Bundesliga outfit, who scored either side of half-time through impressive attacking duo Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Italy international Immobile netted his first goal since joined Dortmund from Torino with a superb solo effort, while Aubameyang's display of spee and incision punished Arsene Wenger's men again in the 48th minute. Tellingly, Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck passed up good chances shortly before both Dortmund goals but the scoreline was ultimately flattering to the England international and his team-mates Former Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa started on the bench following a goalscoring retur ...

Arsene Wenger might well be frustrated. He is again counting the cost of missed chances following this 1-1 draw away at Leicester City and his need for a new striker grows by the game. The encouragement given to Olivier Giroud last week by his late equaliser at Everton counts for nothing now, with the France forward ruled out until the New Year. Any pretence that Wenger might have had about Yaya Sanogo leading the line in his compatriot's absence, meanwhile, can now be given up. He remains a work in progress and that landmark performance - that great vindicator - does not look forthcoming. He will grow better in time but now he is learning his trade. With the Premier League and Champions League to be contested and Arsenal in a most difficult European group, Wenger cannot afford to have an apprentice forward learning on the job. Arsenal created more than 20 chances at the King Power Stadium and played, for the most part, in the Leicester City half, but with Sanogo at the sharp end of their attacks, their e ...
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claimed the resilience shown by his players in their 2-2 draw with Everton underlines their Premier League title credentials. The Gunners showed plenty of grit as they battled back from two goals down to rescue a point in the closing minutes at Goodison Park on Saturday following a determined second-half showing. Wenger compared the response of his players to the one they showed when the two sides last met on Merseyside in April. Last season the North London club were also faced with a 2-0 halftime deficit at Goodison, but offered a tame showing after the interval as they went on to lose 3-0. "When we got beaten here 3-0 it could have been many more," Wenger said. "Three was quite flattering on the day," the veteran French boss added. "For us to come back from 2-0 down against a team as good on the counter attack it shows the belief and resilience was there. "It is our ambition (to challenge for the title). If we can maintain that, of course we can (be challengers). "We had a ...
Burning Prem Questions It's finally here. The last day when we're all on equal terms and every fan's dream of Premier League glory remains alive until a ball is kicked in anger and Spurs collapses into its usual mewling mess. Sometimes I think it would be more fun to just keep talking about the season than playing it, but then I remember the life-affirming sight in May of thousands of jubilant Manchester City fans invading the Etihad pitch to hug their title-winning heroes and try to touch Manuel Pellegrini's magnificent silver mane to see if it was real. - Gabriele Marcotti: Prem season storylines - Miguel Delaney: Top seven tighter than ever - Ian Darke: Evaluating the title contenders - ESPN FC: Whose kit is the most valuable? Sure, there was some soccer in the interim -- a tournament in Brazil that England passed through as swiftly as you wish your unwelcome mother-in-law would, and let's not downplay the two most coveted trophies, the FA Cup and Community Shield -- that a certain North London team go ...
Bacary Sagna has hit back at suggestions from Arsene Wenger that he was tapped up by Manchester City before quitting Arsenal to join the Premier League champions this summer.
Walcott out, Rooney & Van Persie up front: How the big six would line-up in a 3-5-2 Connor Jacksön With Louis Van Gaal keen to use the formation with his Manchester United squad, Goal looks at how the Premier League's elite would look with the same system in place The 3-5-2 system is rapidly being adopted by more teams in the Premier League. Steve Bruce got Hull City into the top flight with the formation and stuck with it last season, Harry Redknapp is experimenting with it at QPR, while Louis Van Gaal has introduced it to Manchester United and is in the process of getting new squad to follow his philosophy. ARSENAL With a wealth of options in midfield and a shortage in defence, Arsene Wenger would have a lot of unhappy players on the bench if he used a 3-5-2 for lengthy periods this season. The regular pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny would be joined by Calum Chambers, who has impressed at centre-back during pre-season. Mathieu Debuchy offers enough attacking threat on the right wing, w ...

Mourinho lived up to his name in his first stint at Stamford Bridge. In 185 games - between 2004 and 2007 – Mourinho's side secured victory in 124 of them. On April 30 2005, Mourinho led Chelsea to their first title in 50-years, as Frank Lampard struck twice to secure the Blues a Carling Cup and Premier League double. Just under one-year later - on April 29 2006 - Mourinho's side were at it again as they demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to claim back-to-back titles. Mourinho's Chelsea side in 05' and '06' proved a ruthless outfit: they were unbeatable at the Bridge, and knew how to get the job done on rival soil. The likes of John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Co. quickly understood Mourinho's philosophy, and they used it to their advantage as they dominated English football. The title success in 05' lived up to Mourinho's 'Special' nickname: his side cruised to success as they claimed 95 points - 12 more than Arsene Wenger's Arsenal and 18 ...
Ahead of what promises to be another thrilling Premier League season, we take a look at 10 of the biggest and best close-season transfers. Alexis Sanchez - Arsenal The second-largest transfer in Arsenal's history, with an estimated £32million fee, Arsene Wenger pulled off a major coup in bringing the Chile star to the Emirates Stadium from Barcelona. Deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou ahead of Luis Suarez's arrival, Alexis turned down Liverpool to join Arsenal. He was a key player in his country's run to the last 16 of the World Cup, and Arsenal fans will be hoping the fleet-of-foot forward can help fire them to a first Premier League title since 2004. Diego Costa - Chelsea After his haul of 36 goals in all competitions helped Atletico Madrid to the Spanish title and the UEFA Champions League final, Chelsea decided to splash over £30m on Costa. Jose Mourinho regularly bemoaned his striking options as Chelsea finished third in the Premier League last term, and he will hope Spain international Cos ...
SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI; Manuel Pellegrini is not worried about Manchester City's Premier League preparations despite a heavy 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield curtain raiser. The Premier League champions looked second-best at Wembley with less than a week to go until they open the defence of their title against Newcastle. But their Chilean coach is still confident he can get his side up to scratch by the time they visit St James’ Park - and he also believes he could have a deal for Eliaquim Mangala wrapped up by then to boost City's threadbare defence. Meanwhile, Arsenal Manger, Arsene Wenger is excited by their goalscoring power. Wenger said: "Three, four, five years ago we lost a big player every year. In the last two years we’ve added players, like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. "I have more attacking options than I’ve had for a long time." Chelsea came from behind to beat Ferencvaros 2-1 in a pre-season friendly, but lost striker Didier Drogba to injury during the first half. ...
Maximum like Arsene Wenger's side romped to victory at Wembley and laid down an early marker ahead of the new Premier League season. Goals from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivie Giroud gave Arsenal claim the Community Shield with a convincing 3-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City.
ARSENAL TARGET LIVERPOOL DEFENDER Daniel Agger could be shipped in to replace Thomas Vermaelen on Arsenal's bench... If anyone sees Thomas Vermaelen's exit from Arsenal as a shock this summer, you'd have to wonder whether they paid any attention to the Premier League at all last season. The Belgian captain became frozen out of the Gunners' backline last term, as Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny forged a sturdy partnership. This summer, in order to find more regular playing time, the Belgian centre-back has fled his north-London nest for Barcelona with the Spanish giants having had a £15m bid for Arsenal's club captain accepted. With their first Premier League match of the season a little over two weeks away, at home to Crystal Palace which they are 2/7 to win, Arsene Wenger needs to fill Vermaelen's place sharpish. Liverpool's version of Vermaelen, Daniel Agger, is his intended target. The Dane was in and out of Brendan Rodgers' side last season as Liverpool went close to landing their first ever Pr ...

Alexis Sanchez will miss Arsenal's pre-season camp in Austria this week - because he doesn't have a visa. The Chilean ace was given extra time off following the World Cup and did not join the Gunners squad on their whistle stop tour to New York. Arsene Wenger believes keeping Arsenal.competitive in their barren years has been the most important achievement of his reign. Winning last season's FA Cup final gave the Gunners their first piece of silverware in nine years, a trophy drought which had seen some question whether the 64-year-old Frenchman was still the right man to take the club forward. Having delivered three Premier League titles since taking the reigns in 1996, Wenger has also overseen a move to the Emirates Stadium - a decision which left the club unable to compete financially with other title rivals for almost a decade. In the intervening years after leaving Highbury, Wenger still managed to guide Arsenal to top-four finishes in every season and finally ended his trophy jinx with a 3-2 win over Hull in May.
HEAR HIM Arsene Wenger claims the Premier League balance of power has shifted towards Arsenal – and that they are ready to be champions. Wenger will unleash Chile star Alexis Sanchez in the Emirates Cup this weekend, part of a new-look side. And for the first time since the club left Highbury with one hand tied behind their backs financially, the Gunners boss believes he has a genuine claim to be top dog by May. Wenger genuinely believes his men will be contenders to City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, whom he expects will keep on spending under Louis Van Gaal. What helps is that the heat is off the Frenchman, something he implicitly conceded as he hinted that, had Arsenal not recovered from two goals down to beat Hull at Wembley, he might not have re-committed for a further three years. Some changes are still to come before the window shuts on September 1, with Wenger admitting club skipper Thomas Vermaelen could leave. He dismissed links with Porto’s Juan Quintero but was slightly more c ...
Wenger tips Wilshere to have 'great season' with Arsenal The manager says the midfielder is in the best shape he has been in for three years, despite the recent pictures of him smoking while on holiday, ahead of an "important" campaign Arsene Wenger is tipping Jack Wilshere to enjoy a "great season" as Arsenal step up their pre-season preparations. Wenger's side face Benfica and Monaco as part of the Emirates Cup at the weekend as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 16. Wilshere suffered an injury-interrupted campaign last season before enduring a disappointing World Cup with England and was pictured smoking during the summer. The 22-year-old has since apologised for the incident on holiday, insisting it was a mistake, and Wenger insists the England international is in top shape. "It's a big season for Jack but he's in the best shape he's been for three years," he told reporters. "He has prepared and has got over his ankle problems, I think he will have a great se ...
The Gunners have seen off competition from Premier League title rivals Liverpool for the 19- year-old to sign the right-back for the eighth highest fee in history for a teenager By William Joyce Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Southampton starlet Calum Chambers . The 19-year-old, who can play right-back, centre-back or as a midfielder, has long been regarded as one of the top young prospects in English football and the Gunners have now won the race for his signature, agreeing a deal that will eventually rise to €20 million. Chambers is understood to have already had a medical, ahead of signing a deal at the Emirates which will see Southampton paid an initial €13m. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wanted to take the teenager to Anfield, but Chambers has instead opted for North London and the opportunity to link up with Arsene Wenger. Chambers had four years left on his current deal but had his head turned once Arsenal made their move, with Southampton realising it would be difficult to shun the intere ...
341 appearances, 157 goals and counting. Chelsea bring Didier Drogba back to the Premier League. Maybe Arsene Wenger should bring back Thierry Henry and we'll see who the real king is... Trust me it will be henry.
Arsenal close in on £16m striker deal Arsenal have agreed personal terms with AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli, according to CaughtOffside . The website reports that the North Londoners are prepared to meet Milan’s asking price of £15.8 million and have even organised the shirt number 45 for the striker to wear. Arsenal had been linked with a move for Queens Park RangersLoic Remy but appears to have switched his attentions after it became apparent that Milan were willing to sell their star striker at such a low price. Experience Despite his well-documented off field behaviour Balotelli managed 33 goals in 54 Premier League appearances at Manchester City and continued his fine form after a £19 million move back to Italy 18 months ago. Balotelli scored 14 goals in 30 Serie A appearances last season but the side could only finish eighth meaning that they missed out on European football. Arsenal’s transfer funds have been boosted by a new kit deal with Puma worth £30 million per season. Puma also ...
Transfers among the great clubs in football... Clubs across the world are hard at work strengthening their squads as the new season draws ever closer, but which transfer has been the best of the summer so far? As ever, the Premier League's finest have been in the thick of the action. Arsenal have shown their new-found willingness to spend over the last 12 months and made headlines by bringing Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez to the club alongside Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy, who will replace Bacary Sagna at right-back. Arsene Wenger turned down the chance to raid Barca for Cesc Fabregas, who joined Chelsea instead. Jose Mourinho also brought intwo of Atletico Madrid's Liga winners - star striker Diego Costa and left-back Filipe Luis -as he looks to launch an assault on the Premier League title.Liverpool narrowly missed out on the crown last term but signalled their intent to remain at the top end of the table by signing Southampton's England duo Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert alongside Bayer Leverkusen s ...
Arsenal boss calmly brushes off Mourinho’s baiting Well done Arsene Wenger, for keeping calm and holding back from getting in to another war of words with Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea boss clearly sees Arsenal as one of his main rivals for the Premier League crown. He has even said as much himself. The not very special one was worried about the threat from the Gunners last season as well, as the last minute veto of our loan deal for Demba Ba showed, and he must be even more wary now that Arsenal have signed two top quality players in Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, with more soon to be on their way. So I was not surprised to see Mourinho take the first opportunity to have a go at Wenger and Arsenal, claiming that Cesc Fabregas never wanted to return to his former club because he preferred Chelsea. He also stuck his oar in to the Jack Wilshere debate after the England international was pictured smoking again during his summer break, even offering some helpful advice on how Wenger should deal with it. O ...

Arsenal rumours 1st July – Di Maria, Florenzi and Balotelli Now that the new shirt deal with PUMA has begun, Arsenal fans are expecting to see some announcements regarding the Gunners activity in the Transfer Market to go with the shirt unveiling, but as usual we shall have to wait longer than we want to! Today has some interesting Arsenal rumours concerning some possible big-money signings, and the question of Mario Balotelli has again raised its ugly head. It seems his agent has confided that Super Mario should not be back in Italy, inferring that he should be back in the Premier League. Mino Raiola was quoted as saying on Rai Sport: “Winning the 2006 World Cup disguised the real problems in Italian football and today they are doing the same thing with Balotelli. “You talk about him and therefore hide the real problems. “It irritated me to see all the blame dumped on to a 23-year-old. It annoyed me and I don’t think this would have happened anywhere else in the world. “I made a mistake in br ...
Hakan Calhanoglu is attracting interesting from a number of big clubs in the Premier League. The Turkish wonderkid is wanted by Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, who are prepared to begin a bidding war at £10million, according to the Express. Bayer Leverkusen are also monitoring Calhanoglu and even claimed they had reached a verbal agreement for a transfer. Calhanoglu, 20, was one of the bright young stars of the last season, as he scored 11 times from 32 appearances for Hamburg. Arsene Wenger has always had an eye for young talent, and believes the attacking midfielder has the ingredients to make an impact at Arsenal. Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho regards Calhanoglu as an ideal replacement for Frank Lampard despite securing the signing of Cesc Fabregas. Liverpool are also interested, as Brendan Rodgers looks at build on his side’s impressive title challenge last season, which came up slight short after they finished three points behind champions Manchester City.
Arsenal boss doing background checks as he plots Remy transfer The long wait, by the player himself anyway, for a dream transfer to Arsenal could soon be over for the QPR striker Loic Remy. There are reports in the media that the Gunners are getting closer to making an official move for the pacy and prolific front man, but there are still one or two issues to resolve apparently. It seems that the France international has done enough during his year-and-a-half in the Premier League to convince Arsene Wenger that he has got the quality to play for Arsenal. His goals to games ratio, while playing for two struggling sides in Newcastle and QPR, is certainly impressive, while his all round game shows the skill and pace that would have been welcome for us last season. The concern for Wenger now, according to a report in The Express, is what Remy is like as a person and what he is like to manage. So the Prof has been in touch with another of Remy’s former clubs, Marseille, to find out. Maybe he does not trust . ...
Cesc Fabregas: "There came a moment when I decided my time at Barcelona was over and I only tried to look for the best option for me. Arsenal were the first option due to a clause in the contract. We spoke with Arsene Wenger and he said that with Mesut Ozil they had this position well covered. From there,I had other very good offers and I looked for the best in the Premier League, which is where I wanted to go. I spoke with Jose Mourinho and he won me over,he convinced me,told me what I wanted to hear and from there everything was very quick. I hope that this new phase of my career goes phenomenally well." Wenger told me that he has several players in my position -Fabregas The new Chelsea signing discussed the possibility of rejoining the Gunners from Barcelona this summer but says that the Frenchman felt that he already had players in his position New Chelsea signing Cesc Fabregas says that Arsenal opted against exercising their first option on signing him as they already had enough players in his position. The former Gunners captain rejoined Barcelona in 2011 but was never able to nail down a key role in the Blaugrana's first team and signed a contract with the Blues on Thursday. Arsenal retained first refusal on Fabregas as part of his transfer to Camp Nou but, after talks with Arsene Wenger, the Spain international says that the likes of Mesut Ozil got in the way of a homecoming. "Arsenal was my first option for the contract clause [but] we talked with Wenger and my position was filled in his team," he told the press. "I had very good offers from other teams.
