Arsene Wenger praises Olivier Giroud after Arsenal's Fa Cup win over Middlesbrough
Arsene Wenger savoured a landmark away win for his side and said it gave Arsenal greater confidence ahead of a spell that could define the destiny of his team. The Gunners won 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, recording their first away win against Manchester City, Manchester United or Chelsea since 2010. The victory, which was secured by goals from Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud, took Arsenal up to fifth and Wenger said in a news conference: "What is for sure is that it increases the level of belief and confidence. The five months in front of us are very important in the lifespan of the team. What you make of that will decide our season. "We looked in control away from home and we finally got a big win in a big game away from home. What is pleasing is that reinforces the belief of the team." Wenger, whose team conceded 17 goals in their three away games against the top three last season, praised his defence for keeping a clean sheet. He added: "We had a good solidarity level and good compactness. Sometimes, t ...

Arsene Wenger: Arsenal answer defensive doubts at Man City Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says victory over Manchester City has answered doubts about their defence and ability to beat top clubs away from home. Goals from Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal a 2-0 win at City in contrast to last season's 6-3 loss. "I am very pleased because our defence have been questioned a lot," Wenger, 65,Said. "The target was to put it right, and to win a big game away in the league which we've not done this season." The win lifted Arsenal to fifth in the table, a point off the Champions League places, but damaged Manchester City's title push and they now sit five points behind leaders Chelsea, who they meet at Stamford Bridge on 31 January. Wenger praised a "great unity, solidarity, togetherness and compactness in our team", as Arsenal recorded a seventh clean sheet in 22 league outings this season. Chelsea by comparison have shut out opponents 11 times but Wenger was pleased with his side's defensive display aft ...
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Olivier Giroud will learn from his reckless red card in the 2-1 Barclays Premier League victory over QPR, which will rule the France striker out of the rest of the hectic Christmas schedule.
Truth Of Arsenal’s Reported £62m Bid For Cavani Revealed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied that there is any truth behind recent reports linking his side with a stunning £62 million swoop for Paris Saint Germain striker Edison Cavani. The Gunners have been consistently linked with a move for Cavani since the summer transfer window, but a deal never materialised. Recent weeks have seen reports about a potential switch for the Uruguayan hit man appear more regularly in the press heading into the January transfer window. This is something of a surprise, given that Arsenal have Danny Welbeck and a fit again Olivier Giroud available to them, although Giroud is set to miss two more games after his head butt to an opponent on Saturday. One particular link in the French press gained popularity in recent days, suggesting that Cavani was on the cusp of a huge £62 million switch to the Emirates Stadium. Wenger has denied that, however, and panned transfer rumours in general. Wenger said: “I don’t giv ...

Why does Arsene Wenger have so much faith in Olivier Giroud?:
Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo is set to leave the club on loan during the January transfer window. The 21-year-old France youth international joined as a free agent in 2013 after his contract expired at French side Auxerre. But he has scored only one goal in 19 appearances, eight of them starts. Sanogo is likely to be sent to another Premier League club rather than moving overseas. Arsenal are keen for the 6ft 4ins forward to get more game time and build confidence. His chances have been limited by the return to fitness of Olivier Giroud, while Gunners manager Arsene Wenger also has Danny Welbeck, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Chuba Akpom at his disposal in attack.(David Ornstein, BBC)

THRILLER AT THE EMIRATES . . . . . . . . . . Alexis Sanchez struck two minutes from time to give Arsenal victory just as it looked like Southampton would hold out for a draw at The Emirates. Visiting goalkeeper Fraser Forster had kept Arsenal at bay with a collection of fine saves from Danny Welbeck and substitute Olivier Giroud, but he was powerless to prevent Gunners talisman Sanchez pouncing on Aaron Ramsey's cross to score his 14th goal of the season. Arsene Wenger's side deserved the win after applying intense late pressure but Southampton were forced to play out the crucial final minutes without defender Toby Alderweireld, who suffered a hamstring injury after manager Ronald Koeman had used his three substitutes. The victory, coming on the heels of the win at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, pushes Arsenal into the top six, while Saints stay third despite a second successive defeat following their home loss against Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hailed "fabulous" Alexis Sanchez after his late strike secured a 1-0 win over Southamptonin the Premier League on Wednesday. The London club looked set to have to settle for a point at the Emirates Stadium as they struggled to break down a spirited and resolute Southampton side. Fraser Forster produced sensational saves to deny Danny Welbeck twice and Olivier Giroud as Arsenal desperately pushed to force a winner which would move them up to sixth place. And it duly arrived one minute from the end, when Chile forward Alexis was on hand to ram home his 14th goal of an impressive debut season in England. Loading... The victory leaves Arsenal two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United and Wenger praised the impact his big-money signing has made since his move from Barcelona. He told Arsenal's official website: "It's difficult to find examples of someone who has settled so quickly. He's had a fabulous impact on the team." Wenger acknowledged Arsenal were not at their fluent ...
Serious Transfer Talk is back for another day of wheeling and dealing as we inch closer to the winter market. Today, we take a look at some of the names cropping up on Arsene Wenger's shortlist. Arsene Wenger's move for Danny Welbeck on transfer deadline this summer was a canny mix of hope and desperation. There's no doubt the former Manchester United forward has the potential to become a top-class forward, but there is no denying Arsenal need a player for the here and now -- someone such as Edinson Cavani, for instance. The Daily Express reports the PSG forward is open to a move to the Emirates next summer, and with Danny Welbeck being, well, Danny Welbeck and questions over Olivier Giroud's ability at the very top level, Wenger could be tempted to splash the cash once more for a bonafide star up top. The paper suggests that though the Uruguayan professes to be loving life in Paris, he would be open to a move to London, should the opportunity arise. Whether he's worth the reported 50 million-pound fee is ...

Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp and Lukas Podolski believes Mesut Özil has been a a big miss for Arsenal. Klopp “Mesut Özil – nobody wants him when he plays, everybody needs him when he doesn’t play,” Klopp said. “I don’t know about Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud.” Arsenal will be without Özil when they face Borussia Dortmund in Champions League Group D on Wednesday 26 November. Arsene Wenger will also be without Olivier Giroud. Lukas Podolski also revealed that he believes Arsenal are missing Özil. Podolski “Mesut Özil can’t help us now because he is injured. When he comes back he can help us because he is a great player. We have start winning games now,” Podolski said. Özil has been ruled out with injury until the New Year. The 26-year-old joined Arsenal last year for a club record fee of £42.5m and won the Fa Cup in his first season.

Gunless Arsenal brought down by United. Wayne Rooney led Manchester United back into the top four of the Premier League with a smash-and-grab 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. On the back of a successful week with England, the United captain secured victory with a coolly-taken 85th- minute chip over Arsenal substitute goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Rooney's strike added to a comedy own-goal by Kieran Gibbs that saw the left-back deflect Antonio Valencia's cross into his own net after a mix-up with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who was injured in the process. Olivier Giroud, on as a second-half substitute, replied deep into stoppage time for Arsenal, but United held on to record a first competitive away win since April 5. The victory took Louis Van Gaal's side back into the Champions League places, 13 points behind leaders Chelsea. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was left to rue an afternoon of wasted opportunities and inspired goalkeeping by United's David de Gea, as well as injur ...

Ospina out for up to three months, confirms Wenger It is exactly the same (injury) . He had his first injury in Nice, it was a knee problem and I think he was a bit rushed back,” Wenger told a press conference. "He didn't use his legs so his muscle became weaker, then he got injured during the World Cup. And after that he came to us injured, from the World Cup. It took him two months to play a game. "I had to bring him on against Galatasaray without a warm-up, without being prepared and he had a recurrence of that injury. That means he is out for two to three months. "Now we have to be really careful because he has a recurrence of a thigh injury that's very difficult. It's a long-term injury." The goalkeeper’s fitness worries only deepen Arsene Wenger’s selection issues, with another six players, including Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny, also currently sidelined.

FOOTBALL NEWS. Arsenal: Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud provide injury boosts Arsenal's injury problems are easing as winger Theo Walcott has returned to training, while striker Olivier Giroud is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery. England international Walcott, 25, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Arsenal's 2-0 Fa Cup win against Tottenham in January. Giroud, 28, has not played since August after suffering a broken leg in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton. "Giroud is recovering very well," manager Arsene Wenger told beIN Sports. The French forward was originally expected to be out until 2015, but the Gunners' boss is hopeful he will be back in action earlier than that. "The operation went perfectly. I believe he is ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation," added Wenger. German forward Serge Gnabry also returned to training on Monday, having been out since March because of a knee problem. Welbeck our reward for Man Utd taking Van Persie – Wenger The Arsenal boss believes his new striker can “improve his career” at the Emirates Stadium and hit back at criticism of his decision to travel to Rome for a charity match Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Danny Welbeck was like a reward for Manchester United stealing away with Robin Van Persie two years ago. The Gunners completed a €20 million deal for the England forward late on deadline day after Radamel Falcao joined the Red Devils on a season- long loan. Welbeck’s sale has been criticised by the likes of former United captain Gary Neville but Wenger says he jumped at the opportunity to bring the 23- year-old to North London. He told reporters: “We lost an important striker in Olivier Giroud and we’re short in numbers up front. Danny Welbeck is an ideal signing for us because he can play through the middle, which I think is his best position, and also on the flanks. “He brings a team attitude, which is very important to us, pace ...
Arsene Wenger might well be frustrated. He is again counting the cost of missed chances following this 1-1 draw away at Leicester City and his need for a new striker grows by the game. The encouragement given to Olivier Giroud last week by his late equaliser at Everton counts for nothing now, with the France forward ruled out until the New Year. Any pretence that Wenger might have had about Yaya Sanogo leading the line in his compatriot's absence, meanwhile, can now be given up. He remains a work in progress and that landmark performance - that great vindicator - does not look forthcoming. He will grow better in time but now he is learning his trade. With the Premier League and Champions League to be contested and Arsenal in a most difficult European group, Wenger cannot afford to have an apprentice forward learning on the job. Arsenal created more than 20 chances at the King Power Stadium and played, for the most part, in the Leicester City half, but with Sanogo at the sharp end of their attacks, their e ...
Arsene Wenger has admitted that Olivier Giroud is unlikely to play for Arsenal again this year, but has ruled out bringing in another striker
Arsene Wenger has just told Sky Sports that Olivier Giroud will be out of action until December or January.
Arsenal Land In Group Stage Alexis Sanchez’s first goal for Arsenal since his £35m move from Barcelona claimed the prize of a place in the Champions League group stage for the 17th successive season on a tense night at Emirates Stadium. The Chilean struck the goal that edged out Besiktas but Arsenal had to survive nervous moments – including playing the last 14 minutes with 10 men after Mathieu Debuchy was sent off – before winning this qualifier. And for manager Arsene Wenger, Sanchez’s strike ensured a rich reward on his expensive summer investment as Arsenal once again go into Thursday’s draw for the group phase. Besiktas were furious when Jack Wilshere’s first-half tackle on Ramon Motta in the area went unpunished while Arsenal missed chances of their own to ease the anxiety sweeping around the stadium in the closing stages. With Aaron Ramsey suspended, Wilshere was at the heart of Arsenal’s best work with an energetic display that put recent poor form behind him, while Sanchez demonstr ...

At last, a sigh of relief. The mission of a record, active 17year participation in the Champions League was on the line, and in serious limbo, but Arsene Wenger in his style stole the show once again. A big sigh of relief. He's done it for arsenal more than any other manager, more than any other club. The crowd at emirate stadium wasn't a klatsch, they were for real. And the crescendo from those emirate faithfuls were the key to this winning. They sang and cheered their team to victory, even when all hopes were in tatters.--they echoed high and higher, and serenaded those motivational songs capable of winning a game. It paid off accordingly. And, who said home advantage isn't a big deal? Anyway, arsenal qualify for yet another Champions League with a nervy 1_0 win over a resilient and determined Turkish side, Beskistas. Call it narrow escape, call it lucky, or whatever as it may suit your linguistic, out was well deserved win, and that's what mattered at last. Though, in truth, It wasn't the kind of game ...

With Mikel Arteta & Olivier Giroud being out injured, i expect Arsene Wenger to sign another player or two by the end of the transfer window
Give me your views on this : What price would you put on him if you didn’t know his name? A 27-year-old French international with 101 appearances and 40 goals from 80 starts in the last two seasons. A player with five starts in the Fa Cup and five goals and four assists. Five goals and seven assists in 14 starts in the Champions League. Two goals and one assist from one start in the League Cup. A striker in his prime years who has had a direct hand in 64 goals in 80 starts and 101 appearances overall. How much more would he have to do to not be seen as ‘rubbish’? How much would you pay for that striker if his name wasn’t Olivier Giroud? How much more would you rate Giroud if Arsene Wenger had paid £22m for him? Or £32m? The fact is that he was an absolute bargain for just £12m. Arsenal fans should be lauding the fact they got him for practically peanuts. and this : Yes, he is a bargain for 12 million. But he is our main striker, we need him to spearhead the attack, push us into games we thought ...

Arsene Wenger try and use Campbell and forget Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo we need titles
Problems started already at Arsenal: Gibbs, Arteta, Sanogo out injured. It baffles me that Arsene Wenger still think Olivier Giroud can score goals when he can't even trap the ball. We remain optimistic as fans but Arsene Wenger remains a stumbling block to success with his favouritism of French average players.
Arsene Wenger confirmed Mikel Arteta as Arsenal's new captain after watching his side beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield. Hours after the sale of former skipper Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, Arsenal dispatched the Premier League champions at Wembley on Sunday as Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud found the net in an impressive performance. Arteta featured alongside Jack Wilshere as the Fa Cup holders dominated central midfield and Wenger named the Former Everton player as his new captain, with Per Mertesacker to serve as vice-captain.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini conceded his team were off the pace as Arsenal stormed to a 3-0 Community Shield win on Sunday. The Premier League champions endured relentless pressure from a vibrant Arsenal side during the first half at Wembley and Arsene Wenger's men were duly rewarded by goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey. David Silva's half-time introduction gave City fresh impetus as Stevan Jovetic headed against the post before Olivier Giroud's dipping strike from 25 yards settled matters

Emirates Stadium side look to bring in World Cup star. Arsenal have made PSG attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi their number one transfer target according to The Sun. Read more Arsenal FC news . The experienced Argentine is apparently keen to leave the Parc des Princes and may be keen on a possible move to North London where Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will hope the 29 year old can provide some much needed quality in the final third. Lavezzi impressed greatly during his five season spell at Napoli, where he formed a great partnership with Uruguayan Edinson Cavani, but has been less effective in the French capital. Wenger is ready to shell out £15m for the adaptable forward, who can play in a central attacking role though is more effective on the flanks. Interest in Lavezzi may well be fueled by the fact that the North London side not only overly relied upon Olivier Giroud last season but also could be a push to address the fact that both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have had their fair share of injury problems ...
Arsenal ready to battle Chelsea for Ezequiel Lavezzi. Arsenal are considering a bid to sign Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to report. The Gunners are on the hunt for at least two established strikers this summer after releasing Park Chu-Young and Nicklas Bendtner. Not only that, but Arsene Wenger relied heavily on Olivier Giroud last season and knows more depth will be required if they are to challenge for the Premier League title. Lavezzi, 29, is thought to be available for around £15 million as Laurent Blanc attempts to balance to books at Parc des Princes in order to help his team fall in line with Financial Fair Play. Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing the 29 year old after chief scout Steve Rowley sent back glowing reports of the forward following a previous scouting mission. Now Lavezzi is at the World Cup with Argentina, Wenger is hoping to catch one last glimpse of him before launching an official bid. One potential fly in the ointment for Weng ...
Arsene Wenger will meet with Mario Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola on Saturday as Arsenal close in on the £25 million signing of the Italy striker, Goal understands. Wenger is currently in Brazil working as a pundit for French TV and will hold talks with super-agent Raiola in an attempt to broker Arsenal's first major deal of the summer. Wenger is ready to spend up to £25m on the 23-year-old former Manchester City striker, who has scored 28 goals in 51 appearances for AC Milan since returning to Serie A in January 2013. The Gunners boss is understood to be in the market for a marquee striker again this summer after missing out on the likes of Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain 12 months ago, leaving Olivier Giroud as the club’s only recognised senior centre-forward. Raiola revealed earlier on Tuesday that "anything is possible" as regards to the possibility of Balotelli signing for Arsenal during the close season. "Arsenal are a fantastic club," he told Sky Sports when asked about the report. "Only eight o ...
The Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny tells Arsene Wenger to sign 30 Goal Striker !! . The Arsenal's steel solid defender Laurent Koscielny believes Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is capable of spearheading a sustained challenge for the 'Premier League' title next season, but if the Gunners close the gap by making four quality signings including a proven striker capable of scoring 30 goals. Mr Wenger re affirmed his commitment to the club by signing a new three-year contract following last month's success in the 'Fa Cup' final but Koscielny is under no illusions that their squad needs strengthening. Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski both deciding to leave on free transfers has left Mr Wenger needing to recruit a goalkeeper and right-back at an absolute minimum, although Koscielny believes that to compete with Manchester City the Gunners need a proven forward to rival Olivier Giroud for a starting spot at centre forward.Koscielny is quoted by the Express as declaring: Yes, we need to recruit a very, very good strik ...
'Cesc Fabregas' The Arsenal are not pursuing Barcelona midfielder.. Story by David Ornstein at BBC Sport .. Arsenal have informed Barcelona they will not be exercising a buy back option on former player Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners inserted the clause when selling Fabregas to Barcelona for £35m in 2011 and were given first refusal after Barca decided he could leave. It is understood Fabregas 27 was keen to return to Arsenal but manager Arsene Wenger is not looking to recruit a creative midfielder. The decision raises the prospect of the player joining one of Arsenal's rivals. Mesut Ozil arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid last summer for a club record £42.4m on a five year contract, while the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Alex Chamberlain and Tomas Rosicky are all part of Mr Wenger's plans. Arsenal's priority is to bring in a striker to compete with Olivier Giroud and a right back to replace Bacary Sagna with goalkeeping cover also needed after the exit of Lukasz Fabianski.. They ma ...
Arsenal ended their nine-year wait for a trophy in the Fa Cup last season. Their victory over Hull in the final at Wembley eased the pressure off manager Arsene Wenger’s shoulders as he finally delivered some silverware for the fans once again. The Gunners should be able to go into next campaign looking to build on their cup success. They are no longer going to be reminded about their drought which will help their cause. It could have been even better for Arsenal last season as they got off to a really good start in the Premier League where they looked like they were going to be in the mix for the title. However, in the end, they had to settle for fourth place as they faltered away in the closing stages. Wenger is likely to have funds available to him in the summer to build on last season’s success. and a top class striker must be very high on the Frenchman’s wish list. Arsenal have relied too heavily on Olivier Giroud recently and he has not had the support from other strikers in the squad. QPR . ...
Mexican forward Carlos Vela is coming back to Arsenal for just £3.25million. Vela has starred with Real Sociedad since being sold by Arsenal two years ago, and is now valued at a figure close to £25 million by the Spanish outfit. However, the shrewd Gunners inserted a buy-back clause in the player’s deal when selling him to San Sebastian in 2012, and will now exert their right to bring the forward back to England, according to the Daily Mirror website. Arsene Wenger is keen to add more fire-power to his squad and see’s Vela as a great forward to challenge Olivier Giroud. -AT
With the announcement that Arsenal have negotiated a new three-year deal with manager Arsene Wenger, reports suggest the club are prepared to allow the Frenchman to invest heavily in the club this summer. Wenger agreed to a new contract extension at the emirates that will keep him at Arsenal until 2017, leaving him with the task of bringing in new talent this summer as the club look to sustain a season-long challenge for the Premier League title. A replacement for Bacary Sagna is expected, as well as a new back-up goalkeeper and a striker to partner Olivier Giroud up front. According to the Daily Mail, Wenger will start his hunt for new signings with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, Queens Park Rangers star Loic Remy and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender. The Frenchman, who ended the club’s nine-year drought for a trophy by winning the Fa Cup final against Hull City in extra time this month, has told fans to expect big summer signings to come in.
Arsenal are preparing to move for Columbian goalkeeper David Ospina, after Lukasz Fabianski agreed to sign for Swansea. Fabianski left to seek more regular first team football at the south Wales club, and Arsene Wenger is keen to find a replacement to act us Wojciech Szczesny’s understudy. And according to the Express, the Gunners boss has identified Nice’s Ospina as the man to put pressure on the Polish international for the number one jersey. Ospina’s current deal with the Ligue One side is set to expire this summer, meaning he will be available on a free transfer. This will allow Wenger, who signed a new three-year deal this week, to invest bigger money into other key areas. After Olivier Giroud spent the whole season leading the line alone, he is certain to invest in another striker to offer support, and may have to spend big to bring in the kind of quality the Arsenal supporters expect.
Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with QPR striker Loic Remy. The French striker, who spent last term on loan with Newcastle, has been linked with several Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham. But according to the Metro, Sky News Radio reported today that the Gunners have won the race for his signature and will pay £10million for the forward. Arsene Wenger will hope to get the deal confirmed before the World Cup begins on June 12, where Remy will link up with his potential new club teammate Olivier Giroud. The signing will at least show Arsenal supporters that Wenger looking to get several deals done over the course of this window, considering how early he has started his business. Last year he failed to get any deals done until the very last minute when he signed Mesut Ozil for £42.5million, and came under criticism from Arsenal fans for not adding to the squad before pre-season
Arsenal get serious with Sociedad on Vela and Griezmann It looks like Arsenal are going to be doing some business with La Liga club Real Sociedad at some point this summer, whether they like it or not. It could involve the transfer of either Antoine Griezmann or the return of Carlos Vela, or even both, so hopefully the two clubs have got a good working arrangement. Many Arsenal fans think that Arsene Wenger is using the buy back clause that we had included in Vela’s contract, in order to ensure that Arsenal fight off any other clubs interested in Griezmann, the young Frenchman who was so impressive alongside Olivier Giroud for France in an international friendly this week. Also, the fact that Vela had suggested that he would be keen on giving the Premier League another go now that he has got his confidence and form back made his return make much more sense, especially at the bargain price of 4 million euros, but the plot has thickened since then. Not only has Vela made further comments suggesting he wou ...

Breaking news on request - Arsenal Transfer News - Latest on Morata: Alvaro Morata Talks Hit Snag - Arsene Wenger has reopened his pursuit of Alvaro Morata, but the deal may have hit a hitch after Real Madrid indicated their wish to insert a buyback clause into the 21-year-old's contract if he moves away from the Spanish capital. Real are understood to be willing to negotiate on Morata, but the Spaniards ideally want a buy-back agreement on the highly-rated Spaniard. It is understood Real want the option of taking Morata back to the Bernabeu in the first two years of his contract at another club. Such an agreement is unlikely to excite Wenger and Arsenal fans too much. Morata's development across the next couple of years is vital, and if the Gunners give him an opportunity to shine, it would be highly irritating to lose the forward when he is suddenly deemed worthy of a regular place in the Los Blancos side. Real exercised this option when recently re-buying Dani Carvajal from Bayer Leverkusen, a player w ...

Rumour: Arsenal sets sights on Di Maria, Pedro and Cuadrado Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stepped up his pursuit of a new winger and earmarked three highly coveted talents as his primary targets ahead of a summer move to land at least one of the trio, report the Daily Star. Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria, Barcelona’s Pedro and Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado are all reportedly on the Gunners’ list as Wenger plans to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season. Although the North Londoners boast several accomplished midfielders within their ranks, the absence of pace on both flanks was noticeable towards the end of the season once Theo Walcott was sidelined through injury. Striker Olivier Giroud does not possess the speed to get in behind a defence, so the addition of a quick wide man would open up the possibility of a new avenue to Arsenal’s play and also complement those already at the club, particularly Mesut Ozil, who thrives on being able to find his team mate with precise through balls. ...

Can't this be a kind of conspiracy in the French National Team -Les Blues? Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy just won the BPL with Manchester City Football Club this past season as regular contributors yet, the French Coach -Lauren Blanc dropped them out of the team to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but, Laurent Koscielny, Sagna and Olivier Giroud were picked for the party. Can this not be an Arsene Wenger inspired conspiracy?
Arsenal v Hull City - Fa Cup final teams Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger kept faith with second-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for Saturday's Fa Cup final against Premier League rivals Hull City at Wembley Stadium. Fabianski, 29, usually provides back-up to Wojciech Szczesny, but he has stood in for his fellow Pole in this season's domestic cup competitions. Jack Wilshere was named on the bench for Arsenal after recently returning from a two-month lay-off with a fractured foot, but fellow England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missed out due to a groin problem. Arsenal's player of the season Aaron Ramsey was paired alongside Mikel Arteta in midfield, with Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and record signing Mesut Ozil providing support for lone striker Olivier Giroud. Hull centre-back James Chester overcame a hamstring injury to line up in a three-man defence alongside captain Curtis Davies and Alex Bruce, the son of manager Steve Bruce. ARSENAL TO BID FOR BENZEMA? Arsenal have been linked with a £30m (R 519 million) move for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as Arsene Wenger targets a new world-class striker. According to Englsih media, Arsenal will make a bid for the French striker after the Champions League final on May 24. Benzema has reportedly just 12 months left on his contract at Bernabeu and Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero. Both players, however, have insisted they won’t leave their respective clubs, but it is yet to be seen how they would respond to an official bid. Arsenal are believed to have asked for Benzema the previous summer when the signed Mesut Ozil, but Real were not prepared to let the Frenchman go after Gonzalo Higain had already left the club. As a consequence, Arsenal have relied heavily on Olivier Giroud this season. Benzema’s compatriot has scored 22 goal in all competitions for the Gunners but Wenger is believed to look out for a more prolific striker. The 26-year-old B ...

Lukas Podolski plays football with a seal, urges Arsenal to sign it Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has urged Arsene Wenger to sign up a silky-skilled attacker who he was playing football with in Cologne this this week. But while many might think that Podolski was talking about the latest Bundesliga star, he actually meant an immessely talented… seal. The Gunners ace indulged in a little head tennis with the animinal while back in Germany, and was clearly impressed with the excellent skills. As well as posting an image with the seal on his Instagram account, Podolski went one step further and urged Wenger to make it one of his top transfer targets… With the club looking for a new striker this summer, to lighten the load on Olivier Giroud, this might not be the worst idea. Got to be better than Nicklas Bendtner or Yaya Sanogo, right?

Arsenal 1-0 West Brom: Giroud header enough for Gunners Olivier Giroud's 16th Premier League goal of the season sealed a 1-0 victory for Arsenal over West Brom at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Frenchman met Santi Cazorla's left-wing corner with a powerful downward header in the 14th minute, ensuring Arsene Wenger's men picked up their fourth successive league win. VIEW FROM THE Emirates Stadium By George Ankers Arsenal could have applied much more of a killer edge to this match but, in what was essentially a dead rubber, they did what they had to and no more. Olivier Giroud got the goal by taking advantage of weak marking at a first-half corner - though a late confrontation with Graham Dorrans might see him under a little scrutiny after the game. Mesut Ozil was the brightest spark, the man who least faded after the break, and Abou Diaby returned to the bench if not the pitch; the two biggest pluses for Arsene Wenger. The fans, meanwhile, were most concerned with loudly trying to convince Bacary Sagn ...

Arsenal climb back to fourth Last Updated: 21:38 15/04/14 Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud fired Arsenal back into the Premier League top four as the Gunners came from behind to defeat West Ham 3-1 at Emirates Stadium. Giroud's superb strike early in the second half helped secure a first win in five Premier League outings for the Fa Cup finalists, who are now a point ahead of Everton in the race for the last UEFA Champions League berth, but have played a game more. Matt Jarvis had nodded the Hammers into the lead late in the first-half, but that appeared to rouse Arsene Wenger's men from a sluggish display and Podolski levelled before the interval, with the Germany international adding a third 12 minutes from time. Giroud had a good chance to break the deadlock with 14 minutes gone, but there was a lack of conviction in his attempt to get on the end of Podolski's cross on the edge of the six yard box and the opportunity went begging. West Ham had started strongly and came close to finding the net twice i ...

Reports suggest Arsene Wenger is set to sell of Olivier Giroud this summer, and with Nicklas Bendtner & Park set to leave this summer on a free. Which striking duo would you purchase this summer, fellow gooners ? for me it would be Romelu Lukaku & Loic Remy
Arsenal's number one striker Olivier Giroud has an unwanted record this campaign - has has been substituted more than any other Gunner. The forward has been brought off 13 times by Arsene Wenger, more than his nearest teammate Tomas Rosicky (10). The Frenchman is just three shy of the highest total in the league this season, shared by Kevin Mirallas of Everton and Samir Nasri of Manchester City (16). The figure relating to Giroud further illustrates the view that the striker is running on empty, with his performances in recent weeks being illustrative of a player who is tired. Arsenal have no real competition for Giroud, with Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo short of the standard required, and both have themselves struggled with fitness. Teammate Laurent Koscielny spoke as far back as November about his teammate showing signs of fatigue, and the fact Wenger has chosen to bring Giroud off so frequently asks further questions as to why he did not sign an adequate alternative.

EVERTON TRASH ARSENAL MERCILESSLY, KEEP UCL HOPES ALIVE HAS JUST BEEN PUBLISHED VIA UNPLUGGED SPORTS Everton's Champions League hopes are in their own hands after a 3-0 win over top-four rivals Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday. First-half strikes from Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku, along with an own goal from Mikel Arteta, put the hosts on course for a first appearance in Europe's premier club competition since 2005-06, when they failed to make it past the qualifying rounds. VIEW FROM GOODISON PARK The dancing in the aisles that greeted the final whistle at Goodison Park said it all. Everton believe they can qualify for the Champions League, and after wiping the floor with Arsenal, many more around the country will be joining them in that belief. Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith ran the Gunners' defence ragged and with Ross Barkley pulling the strings from midfield, this was as complete a performance as they have put in this season. Tough assignments still await them, but with Arsene Wenger's side ...
Huge Selection of Helmets at Low Prices
Well it is another embarrassing result and a weekend which has been ruined by a gutless performance and a manager who has lost his way. Arsene Wenger has done wonders for us in the past, but this season has proven to many that this should be his last in charge of Arsenal football club. We were in fine form in the first-half of the season and actually looked like genuine title contenders. However, in the past two months we have seen our side challenging for the title to contending for a fourth place finish - a task which could prove difficult if recent form is anything to go by. We got smashed 5-1 against Liverpool, 6-3 against Man City, 6-0 v Chelsea and today 3-0 against a side we will have to fend off if we are to finish in the top four. In the games that matter we haven’t delivered. The players have to take some responsibility for their performances of course, but like it or not, everything stems from the manager unfortunately and he will ultimately be the one criticised for the club’s results, not ...
Arsene Wenger has to go.. And he needs to take Yaya Sanogo, Mikel Arteta and Olivier Giroud with him.. On a serious note, RIP August Wooter!!!
We have clearly lost it. Arsene Wenger is CLUELESS & simply LOST! The guy NEVER EVER has a Plan B. You scarcely find him varying his game plan in the course of a Game! How can you play a WHOLE season with just ONE ineffective STRIKER? What is this Blind Faith in this Olivier Giroud dude? For how long is AW going to be content with a 4th Place finish? What is his priority, making profits for the Directors or winning trophies for the fans?
I am better than OLIVIER GIROUD.Arsene Wenger you are blind.
Arsene Wenger, Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have got to go this summer.
Arsenal Back in For £8m Alvaro Morata Arsenal’s striking issues have been well documented this season, with an over-relied upon Olivier Giroud running out steam, and Nicklas Bendtner a lost cause, tripping somewhere around central Europe in a hat. With that in mind, Arsene Wenger is stepping up his search for a new recruit this summer, and has held fresh talks with Real Madrid over a summer move for Alvaro Morata, according to the Mirror. The Mirror claim that a deal is very much in the offing at around the £8 million mark, though only if Arsenal are willing to agree to a buy-back clause. The Spain U-21 striker’s star has fallen at Madrid this season, the emergence of Jese and the arrival of Bale leaving him relegated to the fringes, and the striker is aware he now needs to move to start playing for the foreseeable future.
I am proud of Yaya Toure. I hope Mikel Obi is watching his style of play! He'll win d African Footballer of d year for record time of four times in a row. Olivier Giroud of Arsenal has no business as a striker. He should be somewhere in d showroom doing Modeling for a designers' outfit. Arsenal should have won Mancity had stubborn Arsene Wenger used Sanogo in his stead. Lets keep d Fa Cup dream alive.
What is the relationship between Arsene Wenger and Olivier Giroud
EXCLUSIVE: Arsene Wenger is shocked by boo barrage: ARSENE WENGER has been shaken by the reaction of Arsenal’s fans to his club’s latest slump. They rallied to take a lead via Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. But a last-minute Mathieu Flamini own-goal earned the Swans a deserved point. That was not the reaction fans wanted after the horrific 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea on Saturday, and the Gunners and their manager were hit by more vitriol at full-time. An Arsenal source told the Daily Express: “Arsene has been affected by the criticism. “Previously it was all water off a duck’s back to him because he was so sure of what he wanted and so sure of the course he was on. “But he has been really shaken by this, for the first time.” Arsenal were three goals adrift in just 17 minutes at Chelsea, and conceded in the 11th minute against Swansea, with Flamini saying that such sloppiness must end. “When you play a big game, you cannot lose it in the first 10 or 15 minutes,” he said. “We have to be ...
A man who divides opinion, but for me Olivier Giroud is one of the worst forwards Arsene Wenger has signed. Of course, we’ve had players Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young, Nicklas Bendtner and Gervinho but they were never been our main strikers. Since Arsene Wenger joined Arsenal in September of 1996, the main strikers at Arsenal have been Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp, Nicholas Anelka, Thierry Henry, Nwankwo Kanu, Davor Suker, Robin Van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor, Eduardo and now Olivier Giroud. He’s not even in the same league as the rest of those players, and the list includes the biggest wanker that is Adebayor. He’s not good enough. He wouldn’t get into any other Top 10 side, nevermind any Top 4 team. Manchester City have Aguero, Jovetic, Dzeko and Negredo, Liverpool have Suarez and Sturridge, Chelsea even have Torres and Eto’o who are past it but they’re still better than Giroud. In a nutshell, his ability to miss the simplest of chances has cost Arsenal dearly this season. With a top class ...

Arsene Wenger may be a managerial legend, but on the evidence of the 11 matches and zero victories against Mourinho,he does not belong in the elite when it comes to building a squad and preparing a team. Saturday's match was a game in which all of Arsenals' flaws were exposed. Chelsea bullied Arsenal and stormed through the Gunners' limp midfield to expose a defence that played with a crazily high line. At 5-0 down and with 10 men,Mohamed Salah was given almost half of the pitch to run into to complete the scoring. It was a goal that summed up both a shocking lack of defensive cohesion and total absence of tactical nous.Wenger must know that moments change games and Arsenal's need for a top class centre forward was again exposed when Olivier Giroud failed to generate enough power on a great early chance with the score goalless.Less than a minute later Eto'o curled Chelsea ahead after cutting inside a half-hearted challenge from Oxlande-Chamberlain,who looked like a small child playing with giants. Two minu ...
Even if l'm accused of spreading bad vibes ... l simply have to bare my mind about Arsene Wenger...bcos l have kept quiet for too long. His total inability to fashion a solid defence - & get an excellent striker after 7 years without a trophy... just makes me fed up. Look at Olivier Giroud? A rubbish player. I never cd stand his clumsiness & goofiness... lack of pace & overall, a crap striker. I have never seen him: 1) Tackle another player 2) Dribble (even just 1 person) & score 3) Chest & turn without falling over I can't stand Arsene Wenger's total lack of tactics ...especially when it comes to important games. His landmark 1000th game in charge of Arsenal ...& he cd not read Mourinho's game even after 10 years of failing to beat him.- instead, he is thoroughly disgraced by a 6-0 margin - & the FIRST TIME Chelsea have ever given another team 6 goals under Mourinho! Wenger's time is over. He will NEVER be able to build a championship team. Champion teams don't concede 4 goals or more FOUR TIMES in a sea ...
Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal : Mourinho shows Wenger the true master Chelsea produced yet another masterclass performance disgracing Arsenal with a convincing 6-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. If there was any man who knows how to beat Arsene Wenger,it is Jose Mourinho and what a way to do it by spoiling his 1000th games party. In a week that the red carpets were rolled out at the Emirates to celebrate the achievements of Wenger since joining the club in 1996,his big adversary,Mourinho came to once again burst his bubble. Just like they did against Liverpool,Arsenal started the game going two goals behind in the first ten minutes of the match. Olivier Giroud had a magnificent opportunity of putting his side in front but he didn't get much power to his shot as Petr Cech got his hand to the ball to divert out from goal. Almost immediately at the other end of the pitch in a quick counter,Chelsea showed Giroud how to take your chance. Andre Schurrle looked up and saw Samuel Eto'o in space, playing in the Cameroonian who ...
Arsenal battled hard but could only draw 1-1 away to Bayern Munich, who progress to the UEFA Champions League's last eight. The Gunners were given the runaround in a goalless first half at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, with chances few and far between as they sought to turn around Bayern's two-goal advantage from the first leg. Ten minutes after the restart, Bastian Schweinsteiger scored from Franck Ribery's left-wing cross and although Lukas Podolski quickly smashed in an equaliser, the Gunners could not produce the goals they needed and went out 3-1 on aggregate. At least they were not beaten, with Lukas Fabianski saving a late penalty from substitute Thomas Muller after Laurent Koscielny fouled Arjen Robben in the box. Arsene Wenger made three changes to the Arsenal team that started the 4-1 Fa Cup win over Everton on Saturday. In came Koscielny, Podolski and Olivier Giroud in place of Kieran Gibbs (ankle), Yaya Sanogo (foot) and Mathieu Flamini, who dropped to the bench. Wojciech Szczesny was su ...
Arsenal and Manchester City fly out in contrasting moods "Uwe's Grandad bombed Old Trafford," proclaimed a best-selling T-shirt at Manchester City in the 1990s. On Sunday at the Etihad, former Blues striker Uwe Rosler's Wigan bombed City out of the Fa Cup. A quadruple bid for glory suddenly looks rather singular, double at best. Chelsea's destruction of Tottenham leaves City playing catch-up in the Premier League title race on a knife-edge. Winning their three games in hand will only take them level-pegging with Jose Mourinho's horse. Winning the League Cup last week was succeeded by embarrassment seven days later. Having dismissed Everton 4-1 on Saturday, Arsenal have a clear path to a first trophy in nine painful year. Perhaps only Rosler's Latics might stop them now. Arsene Wenger could not hide his enjoyment as both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud put recent troubles behind them. England's competitors in this week's Champions League fly out in contrasting moods, even if each task is similar. Indeed, it ...

Report: Arsenal To Trigger Release Cause Of“The Next Henry” According to Mirror, Arsenal are ready to match the release clause of Newcastle United striker (on loan from QPR) Loic Remy in the summer transfer window. The French international was touted by the media as the next “Thierry Henry” as both share same attacking style. Remy is far from reaching the level of Henry but no one can deny his potential. Remy has a get-out clause of £8million in his contract that allows him to quit QPR if he wants to. Arsenal can use this to their advantage to lure the French finisher away from QPR/ Newcastle United. Remy has shown good form this season, scoring 13 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League for the Toons. He has all the required attributes to be a successful player at Emirates, especially under the guidance of Arsene Wenger. He will also give much needed competition for Olivier Giroud for a place in the starting line-up. What do you guys think about this? Is Remy an upgrade to Giroud? Post your op ...
Steady online. (Former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta put Arsenal back in front from the spot, then Olivier Giroud struck twice as Arsene Wenger's men boosted their hopes of ending their nine-year trophy drought with a 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.)
ARSENAL CRUSE TO Fa Cup SEMI FINAL Arsenal booked their place in the semi-finals of the Fa Cup with a thrilling 4-1 win over Everton at The Emirates. Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal an early lead with his first goal in three months before Romelu Lukaku drew Everton level at the break. Mikel Arteta restored Arsenal's lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half before substitute Olivier Giroud scored two goals in two minutes to send Arsene Wenger's men to Wembley and end Roberto Martinez's hold on the Fa Cup. Arsenal broke the deadlock after just seven minutes with their first attack of the game as Santi Cazorla capitalised on a slip from James McCarthy to find Ozil inside the box with a perfect slide-rule pass and the German coolly slotted the ball past Joel for his first goal since scoring against Everton in December. The goal lifted Arsenal and Yaya Sanogo and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both saw shots from the edge of the area pushed away by Joel as the home side went in search of a second goal. Evert ...
Arteta: You need a big squad (PA) Tuesday 25 February 2014 Share Arsenal's strength in depth through midfield can give them an edge in the English Premier League title race, according to Mikel Arteta. While many pundits had predicted a New Year collapse, the Gunners trail leaders Chelsea by just a point heading into the final dozen matches of the campaign, although third-place Manchester City have a game in hand. Much had been made of Arsenal's lack of attacking back-up for main frontman Olivier Giroud following the season-ending injury to Theo Walcott, but Arsene Wenger certainly has plenty of options in a supporting role. Arteta had returned to the starting XI in Saturday's 4-1 win over Sunderland following suspension for the UEFA Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich, with Mathieu Flamini on the bench. Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who had been in sublime form before a thigh injury sidelined him on Boxing Day, is close to a return - all of which will bolster Arsenal's selection choices for the run- ...

Olivier Giroud marked his return to action with two goals as Arsenal romped to victory over Sunderland. He stroked home an early opener after a deflected Jack Wilshere shot fell to him, and capitalised on a poor Santiago Vergini back-pass for his second. Tomas Rosicky clipped home a third after a neat Arsenal passing move with Laurent Koscielny heading the fourth. Emanuele Giaccherini produced a stunning late volley to end Arsenal's run of five Emirates clean sheets. Giroud had sat out the Gunners' previous two games, with manager Arsene Wenger insisting the French striker needed a rest. But he looked thoroughly refreshed as he tormented a Sunderland team with one eye on their Capital One Cup final appearance next week. Even without the dropped Mesut Ozil, who shone on his debut in Arsenal's win at the Stadium of Light in September, Arsenal were rarely troubled by Gus Poyet's team. The Black Cats had barely touched the ball when Arsenal grabbed a fifth-minute lead as Giroud ended a run of four games witho ...
Arsene Wenger has likened Tomas Rosicky 's virtuoso performance in Arsenal 's 4-1 win over Sunderland to that of Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp. The influential Czech playmaker netted a contender for goal of the season on Saturday afternoon, with his clever dinked finish the culmination of a sequence of flicks and first- times passes. Bergkamp, who spent 11 seasons in North London, was in attendance at Emirates Stadium for the unveiling of a statue in his honour and Wenger is sure the Dutchman would have enjoyed Rosicky's display. "I think we scored two great Arsenal goals. One of them being scored by Olivier Giroud, one of them by Rosicky," the French manager told reporters. "I am very pleased for Rosicky, because today Bergkamp got the statue and I think Rosicky took on the role of Bergkamp today, because he scored a goal as well. "Certainly Dennis would have been pleased to see him play." Giroud netted twice before Rosicky grabbed Arsenal's third of the game on the stroke of half-time, with Laurent Kos ...
On Saturday three of the Premier League title contenders were in action, and they were all embroiled in late drama, battling displays and most importantly… crucial wins. Chelsea beat Everton with a late, late winner at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City edged out Stoke with a workmanlike display, Manchester United’s star duo of RVP and Wayne Rooney saw off Palace and Arsenal battered Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere there were big wins for Hull City and West Ham United, while relegation battlers West Brom and Fulham drew. LATEST Premier League STANDINGS So, in case you missed any of the mesmeric action from the PL on Saturday, below are the recaps, analysis and some video highlights to give you everything you need to catch up. Drink it in, my friends. Arsenal 4-1 Sunderland The Gunners blew Sunderland away early on, as Olivier Giroud bagged two goals before half time and Thomas Rosicky, who was praised by Arsene Wenger, got another to make it 3-0 to the home side at the break. After the int ...
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has issued a grovelling apology to his wife and Arsene Wenger after he was pictured in a hotel room by a pin-up just hours before a match. The Arsenal manager confirmed that disciplinary action would be taken against Giroud after he apologised. Is this the reason...
Almost 12 months ago it was a tie which – despite going out on away goals – kickstarted a run of results to save Arsenal’s season. This time around Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will surely be hoping that their Champions League last 16 clash with Bayern Munich will be the catalyst for a similar revival of his side’s fortunes as they chase silverware on three fronts. Unfortunately for Arsenal, while their last match against Bayern ended in victory, it was a small consolation after the German giants had all but ended the North Londoners' chances of progressing to the quarter finals with a comprehensive first leg success at the Emirates. After some recent questionable form, Arsenal.come into Wednesday’s fixture in reasonably good shape, buoyed from their Fa Cup victory over Liverpool. While Arsenal weren’t at their best, they ground out a much needed result and overcame the psychological blow of being pumped by Liverpool at Anfield just a fortnight ago, something they could call upon against Bayern. ...
Olivier Giroud is being given a fine because he denied having an affair to Arsene Wenger. Don't really understand why. It's nobodies business where he puts his willy.
After watching the match between Arsenal and Manchester United yesterday I came to the conclusion that Olivier Giroud is not the man to lead Arsenal's attack. When he had the opportunity to score, he scuffed most of the chances that came to him. The effective, accurate heading we have seen from the Frenchman in the past at Montpelier and even at Arsenal was non-existent last night so it was disappointing to think that this player is Arsenal's main attacking player if they are serious about winning the title. Many people have complained about Arsene Wenger's transfer policy in the previous transfer window with the manager failing to bring in any support for Giroud. If he had of done this would it have been a different story last night against United? If Wenger had have brought in a back-up striker in January - such as the likes of Diego Costa - would fans have seen goals last night? To be honest, I don't think it was necessary for Wenger to bring in another front man as I think there is a man on the bench ...

SPORTS UPDATE: With Emmah Table leaders Vipers SC are positive they will retain the championship ahead of the second round of the FUFA Super League that kicks off this Friday. Vipers have 29 points from 15 first round games. Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has said he doesn't intend to replace departed football director Joe Kinnear, who resigned last night. Barcelona are in preparation for a summer bid for the £50million-rated Manchester City midfielder David Silva to replace the ageing Xavi. Dnipro executive director Andriy Rusol has said that he expects Liverpool to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka in the summer. Liverpool tried to bring in the winger before Friday night's deadline but could not finalise a deal, with reports suggesting that the clubs could not agree on how a fee would be paid. HALFTIME VERDICT: Nothing much after the 45 minutes at The Emirates. Crystal Palace have successfully shut out Arsenal's creative players; Mesut Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla who like to use the middle park to slide passes to on-running and the frontman Olivier Giroud. Arsenal's fullbacks have not been able to execute their role as they are supposed to. In such situations, where the middle park is congested, fullbacks need to be lively. Bacary Sagna and Nacho Monreal need to bomb forward and whip in crosses. Frustrating times for Arsene Wenger who has been busy with the fourth official. Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace
Transfer window: Arsenal are underdogs without a new striker By Martin Keown Former Arsenal defender and BBC football analyst Arsenal's failure to sign another striker in the January transfer window surprised me - and makes them underdogs for the title. The Gunners' firepower hardly compares to Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, and if their only fit striker, and top scorer, Olivier Giroud were to get injured it would spell disaster. Arsene Wenger's side were linked with Schalke's Germany international Julian Draxler, but I can understand his logic in not proceeding - £37m looked a lot of money for a 20-year-old who is not proven in the Premier League. Manchester United paid that amount for Juan Mata, and the Spain international is the finished article. But other than Giroud, Wenger's options look limited: Theo Walcott is out injured for the season and I feel Nicklas Bendtner is nowhere near fit enough. Yaya Sanogo is another striker on the treatment table. Arsenal also have injury proble ...
Arsenal drop points at Southampton Premier League leaders Arsenal dropped points in the title race as they were held by Southampton in an enthralling contest at St Mary's. Jose Fonte headed in Luke Shaw's cross to give the Saints a deserved lead. But Arsenal turned things round with two quick goals after half-time, from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. Adam Lallana brought Southampton level when he turned in a Jay Rodriguez pass before Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini was sent off for a rash challenge. Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny then pulled off a fine double save in the closing stages to keep out efforts from Shaw and Fonte and deny the home side all three points. Southampton would have been good value for the victory as they outplayed their visitors for large portions of the match. Arsene Wenger's men looked a pale imitation of their usual selves as they opened the door to title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. Both could overtake Arsenal with victories on Wednesday, when City visit Tottenham and ...
Arsenal Can Win the Title Without Signing a Striker . Here are the reasons why they can . . . With just three points separating the top three of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, respectively, this is shaping up to be one of the tightest, most exciting title races in years. Unexpectedly, it's Arsenal who lead the pack with 51 points. Keep in mind this is the same side that was expected to struggle to make the top four after losing 3-1 to Aston Villa on the first day of the season. Despite Arsenal topping the table since Match Day 7—all the way back in October—people still seem to have trouble taking the Gunners' title challenge seriously, with free-scoring Manchester City getting most of the praise despite sitting in second place. Arguably the main reason why many continue to doubt Arsene Wenger's side is the lack of striking options past Olivier Giroud, especially when compared to the plethora of strikers at Manchester City's disposal. The fact Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko consistently sit on th ...
Dear Arsenal supporter, It was a job well done on Friday night against Coventry. In the second half we dropped our pace a little bit and Coventry had some chances, but we started the match very strongly and we were strong again in the last 20 minutes when Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla gave us a lift after coming off the bench. Lukas Podolski scored twice and you know that when you have a goal chance you want it to fall to him. He is a clinical finisher and he has an unbelievably quick backlift. He is very accurate in his finishing. He can be effective whether he starts or comes off the bench, he is always dangerous. We saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain make his first start since the opening day of the season and it was good to see him back. I liked what he did in the centre of midfield, especially when we had the ball. Defensively he worked hard and it was interesting to see him and Jack Wilshere together. They could be a good partnership in the future for England as well. When Alex came off, Gedion Zelalem ...
Lukas Podolski shows he's better than Olivier Giroud almost in every game he plays. Since Giroud and coach Arsene Wenger are French, Giroud starts every league game leaving Podolski on the bench.
Podolski sends Arsenal to Fa Cup last 16 (AFP) Friday 24 January 2014 Lukas Podolski struck twice as Arsenal eased into the Fa Cup fifth round with a comfortable 4-0 victory over League One side Coventry at the Emirates Stadium, while Nottingham Forest and Preston North End played to a goalless draw. With 54 league places separating the two clubs, an upset was unlikely and late goals from substitutes Olivier Giroud -- his 13th of the season -- and Santi Cazorla confirmed Arsenal's superiority. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger had spoken of his determination to add to his haul of four Fa Cup successes in the build-up to the game. Arsenal's last triumph in the competition came in 2005 when they beat Manchester United in the final, the last time the North London club won silverware of note. And Wenger's intention to avoid any risk of a shock was reflected in his team selection with Germany's Mesut Ozil, the club's record signing, included in a strong starting line-up. It soon became clear the Premier League lea ...
Arsene Wenger is likely to rotate and bring in a number of fresh faces for the visit of Coventry, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain likely to make an appearance. The England winger is likely to return to the side with a weaker opposition proving a less strenuous task on the 20-year-old’s recovering injury, and begin regaining match-fitness. Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are both out, with respective thigh and calf injuries, however with the duo nearing a return the game could be used as an opportunity to give them a cameo ready of a Premier League return. Thomas Vermaelen could come in for Laurent Koscielny or Per Mertesacker as the centre-half duo have played none-stop this year, and Vermaelen’s knee injury could hold out to give one of them a break. Nicklas Bendtner is nearing a return from an ankle injury picked up in scoring against Cardiff weeks ago, but Olivier Giroud is likely to be given the nod in the hope that he can play two games in 4 days with a trip to Southampton looming on Tuesday. We have ...

Arsene Wenger is backing Olivier Giroud to make a "major impact" in the second half of the season after returning from injury.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has insisted his ongoing search for a new striker was never to replace Frenchman, Olivier Giroud, but for someone to play alongside Arsenal’s tall targetman.
Arsene Wenger has admitted it would be a gamble if Arsenal did not bring in another striker this month, but believes fighter Olivier Giroud has the tenacity to lead the club to the title this season. Your take?
Arsene Wenger hopes Olivier Giroud will show that Arsenal already have a top-class striker when he returns against Aston Villa.
Coventry City rewarded with FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Arsenal. Following their 1-2 win at Oakwell over Championship side Barnsley yesterday, Coventry City have been rewarded with an away tie at Premier League leaders Arsenal in the Fourth Round. Goals from Franck Moussa and Leon Clarke saw City overturn a first half deficit at Oakwell, whilst Arsenal overcame local rivals Tottenham Hotspur thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla & Tomas Rosicky. The last meeting between the two sides actually came last season as City made their first ever trip to The Emirates Stadium for a Capital One Cup Third Round tie, with the hosts running out 6-1 winners. Arsene Wenger fielded a mixture of youth and experience that night, with Olivier Giroud scoring his first goal in Arsenal colours before seeing Joe Murphy save a second half penalty. England forward Theo Walcott also helped himself to a brace with Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain, Ignasi Miquel and Andrei Arshavin also getting on the scoresheet for The Gunners. On-loan striker ...
The players that the Premier League contenders must sign in January By Eurosport | Jan Molby – 7 hours ago We've passed the half-way point in what looks like being the closest Premier League title race in years - and with the transfer window open, all the top teams have a chance to dip into market for a player who could make or break their challenge. But who should the top contenders go for? I'm taking a look at the top seven teams in the table - and pick out the player I believe each one should make their priority in the January transfer window. Arsenal It's pretty straightforward for Arsenal, isn't it? They need a striker. A proper striker. We all know they have the money, and now is the time to go out and spend it - because Olivier Giroud will not win them the title. They need someone on the level of Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid - he would be my top choice if I were Arsene Wenger. There are other strikers out there, of course, but Costa looks like the one to me: he's big, strong and fast, and looks ...
WALCOTT TO PLAY UP FRONT AGAINST SPURS The Gunners will be without their first two recognised centre forwards, but playing the England winger through the middle could well be effective. Arsenal take on North London rivals Tottenham in the third round of the Fa Cup this weekend, and Arsene Wenger will have a selection dilemma on his hands. In attack, Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner are both injured and will not feature against Tim Sherwood’s charges. As such, Wenger must choose between limited options as the man to lead the home side’s line. There is an argument to suggest that Lukas Podolski or one of the young stars could play as the lone striker, but it makes more sense to play Theo Walcott through the middle. Against Tottenham, Walcott’s pace could well see him as a more ideal striker than the missing pair. Although Spurs have been good on the road this season, bar their debacle at the Etihad Stadium, without Jan Vertonghen they lack pace at the heart of their defence. Michael Dawson and Vlad ...
There are plenty of interesting stories in today’s newspapers, with The Sun suggesting that Arsenal are closing in on a shock £2million swoop for Dimitar Berbatov. It is reported that Arsene Wenger wants the Fulham striker to boost his attacking options after Nicklas Bendtner suffered an injury against Cardiff yesterday, with first-choice frontman Olivier Giroud also currently sidelined.

Arsenal transfer news: Olivier Giroud injury is cause for Arsene Wenger concern
LONDON Evening Standard Arsene Wenger admits he is facing up to a real injury crisis ahead of the New Year's Day clash against Cardiff, which striker Olivier Giroud will definitely miss because of an ankle problem. Christian Eriksen sees no reason why Tottenham should abandon their attacking philosophy when they head to Manchester United on New Year's Day. West Ham will be without any recognised central defenders for their Premier League clash with fellow strugglers Fulham on New Year's Day. Manchester Evening News Roberto Martinez is adamant Everton can resist big-money bids for Leighton Baines and Ross Barkley should Manchester United come calling in January. Manuel Pellegrini has issued a "hands off" warning to clubs eyeing some of his fringe players in the January transfer window, including Edin Dzeko, Jack Rodwell and Joleon Lescott. Manuel Pellegrini has denied suggestions Stevan Jovetic has failed to settle, but refused to reveal more about his fitness issues. LIVERPOOL ECHO Brendan Rodgers believe ...
Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal begin 2014 with a home match against Cardiff City on New Year's Day. Having been briefly replaced at the top of the table by Manchester City on Saturday, Arsene Wenger's men returned to the Barclays Premier League summit 24 hours later courtesy of a battling 1-0 win at in-form Newcastle United, but they have mounting injury concerns ahead of the visit of Cardiff. Up to four first-team regulars are set to miss Wednesday's encounter at Emirates Stadium with midfield duo Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil ruled out, after missing Sunday's 1-0 victory at St James' Park, with thigh and shoulder issues respectively. On top of that full-back Kieran Gibbs (calf) and striker Olivier Giroud (ankle) are now due to miss out against the Bluebirds, while midfielder Jack Wilshere and winger Theo Walcott also doubtful. Speaking ahead of the fixture, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "We lost Gibbs with a calf strain. [There is] uncertainty with Wilshere and Walcott. Ramsey will be out f ...

The latest comments coming from Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud suggest that he feels like he may find himself on the sidelines if manager Arsene Wenger buys another forward in the January transfer window.
Olivier Giroud tells Arsene Wenger: I won't be happy if you buy another striker
does ur club need next year? Let the wheeling and dealing begin! ARSENAL What they need A striker. Right-back, new No.2 keeper and holding midfielder can wait until the summer. The player the Gunners have watched most this season is Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. They’ve also looked extensively in Germany for a striker. But it's hard to see a deal being done mid-season. Players they have targeted Alvaro Morata, a top-quality young striker at Real Madrid, is available on loan and would provide cover, back-up and a complement to workhorse Olivier Giroud. They also like Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi, 20, but that would most likely be to buy and then to loan him back. Alvaro Morata Real Madrid B Players that might be leaving Lukasz Fabianski is a January target for Schalke. Hard to see Arsene Wenger allowing him to go, but Fabianski is keen to go. Bacary Sagna is another out of contract at the end of the season. Such is his frustration with Arsenal over his contract, he will flirt with oth ...

ARSENAL 0 CHELSEA 0 Premier League Ten and counting. Ten occasions on which Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho have met as managers; ten occasions on which Wenger has failed to win. The architect of his frustration stood imperious on the outer reaches of the technical area throughout this, the latest rain-blasted edition of their rivalry. It was Mourinho’s night, in more ways than one. He will have felt most pleased with the result, his team turned in the better performance, and the inhospitable conditions reflected his gameplan. Chelsea were not negative, but they were constant, cussed, spoiling, much like the rain that drenched the Emirates Stadium and many within. Chelsea’s organisation won the day, as did the weather. It was a night on which it was impossible to play the beautiful game, and Chelsea settle more happily into the ugly side of things. They resisted Arsenal defiantly, broke more threateningly on the counter attack. Arsenal were limp and ineffectual for long periods. Wenger had sough ...
Liverpool will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day after Arsenal and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in driving rain at the Emirates Stadium. Jose Mourinho's men wasted the two best chances of a cagey first half, with Frank Lampard striking the underside of the crossbar with a fierce volley and Willian forcing a low save from Wojciech Szczesny. Clear chances remained at a premium after the break, but Olivier Giroud spurned two big opportunities for either side on the night and Cesar Azpilicueta cleared Bacary Sagna's header off the line late on. Jose Mourinho made it 10 matches against Arsene Wenger as Blues manager without suffering defeat as the Gunners saw their winless Premier League run extended to three games. Wenger made four changes from the side beaten 6-3 by Manchester City last time out, Thomas Vermaelen replacing the injured Laurent Koscielny in defence, while Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta came in for the suspended Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini in midfield. Frank Lampard was ...
Robbie Savage: Jose Mourinho's tactics keep Chelsea in title race In his regular BBC Sport column, Robbie Savage looks at Chelsea's 0-0 draw against Arsenal and assesses how both teams are shaping up in the title race. I was at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night for BBC Radio 5 live and, beforehand, I thought the stormy conditions would suit Arsenal. It had been pouring with rain all day but the pitch was immaculate and great for crisp passing. As a player, you cannot ask for anything more than that and I thought it would be perfect to zip the ball about on. That did not happen, and the Gunners ended up playing poorly. Arsene Wenger's side looked tired and short of ideas but credit has to go to Blues boss Jose Mourinho for getting his tactics spot on. Chelsea crowded the midfield, had a solid defence and looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Mourinho came for a point, and he left with one. In terms of examining how he got it, it was a brilliant game to watch, but for the neutral it did not offer much ...
ARSENAL AND CHELSEA DRAW 0-0 AT Emirates Stadium Arsenal and Chelsea shared a scrappy goalless stalemate at the Emirates on Monday to leave Liverpool top at Christmas. In a tight opening period in this London derby, Frank Lampard volleyed against the bar. John Obi Mikel was perhaps fortunate to avoid a red card for a studs-up tackle on Mikel Arteta and, in the same move, referee Mike Dean also opted not to award a penalty when Willian tripped Theo Walcott. After the break, Olivier Giroud shot wide and Thomas Vermaelen had an effort cleared off the line by Cesar Azpilicueta as Arsenal could not find the win they needed to retake the Premier League lead. The Gunners are now level on points with Liverpool at the top, while the stalemate sees Chelsea move back into fourth, two points off the top. The draw means Arsene Wenger remains without a victory over Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

The Arsenal boss has long been linked withthe highly-rated Brazillian goal machine as he searches for a striker to share the burden with French star Olivier Giroud. Manchester United: Title rivals will be nervous as momentum builds Manchester United did not make a complete case for normal service being resumed by beating Arsenal - but a glance at recent results and the Premier League table suggests the obituaries can stay locked in the drawer. The noise levels around Old Trafford, and the joy that greeted the final whistle, were an accurate measure of this game's significance to United and David Moyes. United needed three points to stop Arsenal extending their lead over them to difficult, if not quite impossible, proportions. Their still relatively new manager needed a victory in a game of such status after previous opportunities against Chelsea, Liverpool and -desperately and embarrassingly -Manchester City yielded only one point. And both duly arrived courtesy of Robin Van Persie's soaring 27th minute header from Wayne Rooney's corner. If the striker is, as Arsene Wenger suggests, still "an Arsenal man" then he has a funny way of showing it. Van Persie scored in bo ...
Arsenal have drawn up a five-man striker shortlist as they step up plans to make a major splash in the January market Arsene Wenger is convinced that the addition of a marquee forward in the forthcoming window could tilt the title race in the Gunners’ favour and is ready to spend £30m on the right player. Arsenal have prepared a list of targets that features Robert Lewandowski, Diego Costa, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Stephan El Shaarawy and Fernando Llorente. The Premier League leaders are closely monitoring the big-name quintet with a view to permanent moves, bar Juventus’ Llorente, who is being considered for a loan deal. Wenger recognises he needs a top quality alternative to Olivier Giroud, who has almost single-handedly spearheaded the team’s attack this season. The Arsenal boss is well aware of the difficulties of landing A-list options in the notoriously difficult January window and the short-list has been compiled with a view to possible availability, even though all five would be unavailable for th ...

Olivier Giroud reveals his frustration at Arsene Wenger decision
Although Arsene Wenger appears reticent to admit it, Arsenal could do with additional options in attack when the January window reopens. Olivier Giroud has put in a herculean effort this season, having made 22 appearances in all competitions so far, but should the Frenchman get injured, then Arsenal will be left bare in attack. Alternative strikers is surely a must, and according to ESPN Arsenal could turn to Dimitar Berbatov to alleviate such concerns. The Bulgarian has reportedly made it clear that his future lays elsewhere, and would certainly offer Arsenal something else in the second-half of the season.

Arsenal 1-1 Everton Arsenal missed the chance to go seven points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League as Gerard Deulofeu's late goal earned Everton a 1-1 draw. Arsene Wenger's men failed to take full advantage of Chelsea's shock 3-2 loss at Stoke City on Saturday, although they did extend their lead on their London rivals – and Liverpool – to five points at Emirates Stadium. Barcelona loanee Deulofeu struck with six minutes remaining as Everton ended an excellent week, which also featured victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, on a high. The visitors controlled the first half but lacked a cutting edge and, in an end-to-end second period, Arsenal looked to have secured three points when Mesut Ozil converted from close range in the 80th minute. However, substitute Deulofeu – who was introduced just five minutes before scoring – had other ideas, firing past Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to rescue a point. Olivier Giroud almost found a dramatic winner for Arsenal, firing a l ...

Arsene Wenger has played down speculation linking Arsenal with January moves for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Corinthians’ Alexandre Pato. It has been widely reported that the Gunners had secured a deal with Spanish giants Madrid to take Morata on loan in January, but Wenger has denied any contact. “There is no truth in that,” he said. “That is all I can say, I have not been in touch with them.” With Arsenal’s scoring burden resting heavy on the shoulders of Olivier Giroud, much speculation has been made over a possible move for former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato as well. However, Wenger played down such reports and instead focused on the impending return of forward Yaya Sanogo, who has been sidelined with a back injury. “We have at the moment Yaya Sanogo who is a striker we brought in during the summer. He is coming back from injury in January so hopefully he will help us in the second part of the season,” said Wenger.

ARSENAL NEWS CONFERENCE Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "The players need to keep a good focus at the moment. We want to keep the same level of urgency and hunger and we want to take advantage of playing earlier than our rivals this weekend. I just want to make sure I deliver to this club what they are expecting. The fans don't need to question my commitment." On Ryan Giggs: "He reminds me a bit of [Dennis] Bergkamp. To deliver these performances at 40 is something special." Wenger on Olivier Giroud and Jack Wilshire: "He [Olivier] uses his body well and his link-up play is very good. Jack is an intelligent player who finds little holes on the pitch and can use his ability to turn a game."
Wenger takes pressure off Ozil ahead of Arsenal’s UCL game Posted on November 26, 2013 Arsene Wenger has a lot of qualities as a manager, but the one that is most appreciated by his Arsenal players is the way he looks after them. Wenger’s softly, softly approach does not always work, as we have seen most recently with Gervinho and Nicklas Bendtner. In general, however, it takes some pressure off players like Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey, giving them the time and the confidence to realise their potential and show the Arsenal fans what they can do. Unlike Ramsey and Giroud, however, the club’s record signing, Mesut Ozil, is already proven at the highest level. And you do not hear many complaints from Arsenal fans about the German, but Wenger has obviously noticed the slight drop in his performance levels and has moved quickly to reassure Ozil and take any possible pressure away from the midfield maestro, as reported by Arsenal.com . The boss said

Arsene Wenger not signing striker in January!! The Gunners have severely lacked depth up-front so far this season Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has shocked fans of the club by revealing that he will not be signing a striker in January once the transfer window opens up. The Gunners have been relying on Olivier Giroud as their only option all season, unless they want to use Nicklas Bendtner of course, and some of his team-mates are suggesting that the French striker is starting to feel fatigued. However, with both Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski returning from injury, Wenger believes he will have enough options for strikers which will mean he won't have to buy on in the New Year. "Theo gives us qualities that other players haven't got," said Wenger, in reference to the raw pace that he brings. "It's a different option. It gives us options to score, to go behind to create space in the middle. We have missed that, maybe, but we have not done too badly. Podolski also shouldn't be too far now." "Look I am not a ...
Professor Arsene Wenger(Baba Ijebu) on Olivier Giroud... He is a positive character, who is always ready to compete. He brings us something different. Gunnerz 4 life!
Arsenal are considering a swoop for the Manchester City striker in January. Arsene Wenger is keen to add a striker to his squad to ease the pressure on Olivier Giroud with Edin Dzeko keen for regular football in a World Cup year.
Arsenal are looking to make a move for Manchester City’s striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window as per reports from The Mirror, but could face a tough competition from European heavyweights like Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. The Gunners are bit thin on the strike department, with Olivier Giroud remains the lone striker for the London club. Arsene Wenger does not see Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott (both injured though at the moment) as an out-an-out striker while the gaffer certainly cannot rely on youngster Yaya Sanogo or Nicklas Bendtner to deliver for him.
News Bit : Arsenal are considering a £15m bid for Chelsea striker Demba Ba, 28, in the January transfer window as manager Arsene Wenger searches for cover for 27-year-old forward Olivier Giroud. Wenger refused to blame Arsenal's Premier League defeat at Manchester United on a virus that swept through the Gunners camp last week. Ex-Manchester United head coach Rene Meulensteen reckons the Reds should target Borussia Dortmund midfield ace Ilkay Gundogan. New Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill says his successor at Sunderland Paolo Di Canio is a "managerial charlatan" and that he had "a wry smile to himself" when the Italian was sacked. Southampton full-back Luke Shaw says he is "not even thinking about leaving" the in-form club despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. Franck Ribery believes he is having the best year of his career and says France should not be scared by the prospect of their two-legged World Cup playoff against Ukraine. Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata does not believe his lac ...

Three Things: Manchester United-Arsenal By John Brewin | November 10, 2013 11:38:33 AM PST MANCHESTER, England -- Three thoughts from Manchester United's 1-0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford. 1. Developing partnership spells danger "Eight points clear, Robin," sang the Arsenal fans, their triumphalism premature. They have been in understandably good cheer of late, but the appearance of a former idol turned their disposition sour. And especially when Robin Van Persie climbed above Olivier Giroud, his Arsenal replacement, to head home a Wayne Rooney corner in the 27th minute. There was to be no obeying of the modern practice of not celebrating against your old club. Van Persie stretched his arms to their full span in a vindication further revealed by a primal roar. Respect cuts both ways. On Friday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had mischievously described his former captain as an Arsenal man. Here was his riposte. Like his teammates, determination was writ large on the Dutchman's features. The modern Manch ...
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN PLAYER AND MANAGER OF THE MONTH? Arsenal’s inform midfielder Aaron Ramsey has not been shortlisted for the October player of the month. The Welsh midfielder has been in stunning form this season and scored against Norwich in Arsenal’s 4-1 win at the Emirates. Ramsey’s teammate, Olivier Giroud is included in the list along with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Adam Lallana, fresh from being called into Roy Hodgson’s England squad, also makes the list after the midfielder helped Southampton into the top six. Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero scored four times in October and makes the list alongside Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. In the manager of the month award, Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino joins Brendan Rodgers, Arsene Wenger, and Jose Mourinho in being nominated for the award.
Arsenal battled to a superb 1-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund as a second-half goal from Aaron Ramsey proved enough to take all three points away from the Germans' Westfalenstadion fortress. Dortmund had come into the Group F encounter searching for an eighth successive home Champions League win and had never lost against English opposition. Jurgen Klopp's well-drilled side, who had won 2-1 in London a fortnight ago, dominated for long spells, but were made to pay for not converting their chances when Ramsey nodded home a knockdown from Olivier Giroud on 62 minutes. It may not have been the flowing display which manager Arsene Wenger would have preferred - but the Barclays Premier League leaders once again answered questions with a display of real character to hand a rare defeat to last season's beaten finalists. With Napoli beating Marseille, Arsenal still have work to do to secure safe passage through to the knockout stages, but will have gained more belief they can last the distance t ...
