Cape Town - Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mikel Arteta will be sidelined yet again with a calf problem. According to the Daily Mirror , Arteta is one of seven Arsenal players who are now sidelined with an injury. Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy, Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil and Wojciech Szczesny are all out injured with Jack Wilshere facing a lengthy spell on the side with a three month lay-off. Yaya Sanogo was another player who got injured during Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund having suffered a hamstring injury. Wenger confirms that Arteta would be “out for a while.” "The injuries are difficult to take on the chin,” said Arteta. “We go into many games and we need as many as possible available. The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight. "Arteta again has a calf problem and that looks quite serious and we lost Sanogo as well on a hamstring probl
Arsenal Captain Mikel Arteta could be "out for a while" as Arsene Wenger's injury concerns deepened following the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund - King B
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was full of praise for Alexis Sanchez & Yaya Sanogo after the Borussia Dortmund win. But had some bad news, as his captain Mikel Arteta picked up a calf injury.
London: Arsenal Captain Mikel Arteta added to his club`s injury woes as the Spaniard limped off with a calf problem in Wednesday`s 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund. Arteta was replaced in the 67th minute of the Champions League Group D clash and Gunners Manager Arsene Wenger fears he could be sidelined for several weeks. The Former Everton star`s injury comes after Wenger saw England midfielder Jack Wilshere ruled out for a long period with an ankle problem suffered against Manchester United on Saturday. Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is also out with a hip injury sustained against United, while England striker Danny Welbeck missed the Dortmund game with a knee problem. Arteta was joined on Arsenal`s growing injury list by France Under-21 striker Yaya Sanogo, who came off after scoring his first goal for the Gunners. “Arteta again has a calf problem that looks q ...
Mikel Arteta knows Arsenal must be more ruthless after a defeat to Manchester United that the midfielder described as "not fair".United were 2-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium to move above Arsene Wenger's side in the Premier League table on Saturday. Arsenal lost by the same scoreline at Swansea City before the international break and are down in eighth place after the first 12 top-flight games. Captain Arteta felt the defeat was harsh on Arsene Wenger's side, but realises they must make the most of their dominance in matches if they are to challenge for honours. "I'm shocked," said the Former Everton man. "I think we played our best game this season in terms of what we demand of ourselves - the quality in the way we attacked, how we won the ball back, how consistent we were throughout, the amount of chances we created. "When you are in the box and you can't manage to score in that many situations, you can't expect to win. "It's not fair for the players and the fans. How can I explain the result? I can' ...

Spurs Legend Glenn Hoddle Surprised By The Make- Up Of Arsenal Midfield It has been reported that Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle is surprised by the make-up of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal midfield. He wrote in theMail on Sunday: “Arsene Wenger was a hugely important manager in my career at Monaco but there is one thing that has puzzled me about his Arsenal teams in recent years. “At Monaco he was very clear about how we would play. We had two strong midfielders in Marcel Dib and Jean Philippe Rohr: solid players who were fierce in the tackle. They were good players but they also made sure our back four were protected. “When he went to Arsenal, he did exactly the same with Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit, and then Gilberto Silva. “Which is why I’m scratching my head a little when I see the players Arsene selects in midfield these days. Last March, in that infamous 6-0 loss to Chelsea, he played Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain. They’re all fine players but none of them is ...
Arsene Wenger says he doesn't understand Arsenal's latest injury crisis with both captain Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey out of the upcoming games against Galatasaray and Chelsea. The pair picked up knocks in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Tottenham with Jack Wilshere also suffering a new ankle injury. Wenger says his medical team will be now be analysing the situation. "We have to really look at what happened," he said. "There's no logic as it's two players who were not involved in the week - no Arteta, not Ramsey - and they had quite a light week for them. We have to analyse what happened there. I don't understand." Calum Chambers, 19, looks likely to be used in midfield against Galatasaray in the Champions League to fill the void, but has been deputising for the injured Mathieu Debuchy at right-back and is one booking away from a suspension as well. "He's been excellent in every position. And from the first to the last minute he has an unbelievable engine. He gets forward and puts crosses in as well," Weng ...

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League match report: Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta pick up injuries and Arsene Wenger will look at the spurned chances and feel his players should have achieved more
Breaking News : The Gunners were poor as they opened their Champions League group stage with a 2-0 defeat in Dortmund leaving Arsene Wenger with much to ponder. Mikel Arteta has written off his Arsenal side's Champions League chances after just one match. The Spaniard admitted Arsene Wenger's men made basic mistakes in Tuesday night's match in Germany, invited Dortmund to attack them and says they must bounce back away to high-flying Aston Villa on the weekend. Arteta said: "If you make the mistakes that we did, against top sides, we know that there is no chance to win the Champions League. "We encouraged them to do that by giving the ball away so many times in very difficult positions. They exploit the spaces very well and they put us under pressure "I am bitterly disappointed. I am very disappointed because we knew their strengths, what we had to avoid and what we did was encourage them to play their game. "We have to react. We have to analyse what we have done wrong and try to improve. In four days, we ...

Arsene Wenger on Mikel Arteta's contract: "He is a strong personality, Mikel Arteta. I don’t really doubt that he will extend his contract but at the moment it is not done." On Nacho Monreal at centre back: "He can [do well there], yes, because he is intelligent, because he has a good sense of interception. Because he reads the game well and because he is a good passer of the ball and for us it is important coming out from the back. [Opponents] drop off at home so we need very good passing out from the back."
Arsene Wenger confirmed Mikel Arteta as Arsenal's new captain after watching his side beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield. Hours after the sale of former skipper Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, Arsenal dispatched the Premier League champions at Wembley on Sunday as Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud found the net in an impressive performance. Arteta featured alongside Jack Wilshere as the FA Cup holders dominated central midfield and Wenger named the Former Everton player as his new captain, with Per Mertesacker to serve as vice-captain.
Mikel Arteta angry at Jose Mourinho jibe about Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger - SkySports
Mourinho taunts Arsenal over Fabregas deal LONDON (England): Jose Mourinho has taunted Arsenal by claiming he needed just 20 minutes to persuade Cesc Fabregas to join Chelsea because the former Gunners midfielder didn’t want to return to his old club. Mourinho signed Fabregas from Barcelona for million ($46 million) earlier in the close-season despite Arsenal having first option to take back the Spain star. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger reportedly didn’t want to re-sign Fabregas because he was happy with Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta as main central midfielders. But Blues boss Mourinho, who has had many verbal jousts with Wenger, couldn’t resist the chance to tweak his rival as he insisted Fabregas had no interest in a reunion with the club he left to join Barcelona in 2011. “I spoke with him 20 minutes. I think he really wanted to come to us,” said Mourinho, who was talking at a BT Sport question and answer session in London on Friday. “As you know, Arsenal had an o ...
Arsenal remain locked in advanced negotiations with Sami Khedira and David Ospina, as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. The Gunners are in the market for a new defence-minded midfielder and goalkeeper, with Mikel Arteta set be used sporadically next season, and Arsene Wenger believes the duo are the perfect men for the job as he builds a squad capable of challenging on all fronts next season. Reports in Spain claim that Arsenal have already lodged a £23m bid for the midfield lynchpin who is said to be ‘keen’ at the idea of playing under Wenger alongside his German World Cup winning compatriots Mesut Özil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski. Wenger’s side, as previously revealed on Gooner Talk, are hopeful of bringing Atletico Madrid youngster Javier Manquillo to the club, while the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle will now be completed before the end of the week after the Magpies signed Holland star Daryl Janmaat as a replacement.
Recently Arsenal have been linked with a €30 million move for Real Madrid's Sami Khedira but Arsene Wenger has been somewhat discouraged by the German international's wage demand of £158,000 per week. It does seem there are great defensive minded midfielders out there that will not break the bank and demand these wages. Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been linked with the 27-year-old and may be persuaded to join the Red Devil's if Arsense Wenger isn't inclined to pay his wage bill. What Arsenal need is a defensive midfielder that can play their usual fluent, elegant football but can also be incredibly disciplined in either the away games or games against the other top teams in the league. The job is to find a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Mikel Arteta who has been linked away from the Emirates

Has Oxlade-Chamberlain just solved one of Arsenal’s key problems? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says that he is open to the idea of playing in central midfield, both for England and for Arsenal. Arsenal have one of the best midfields in entire Europe, but Manager Arsene Wenger is said to be keen on signing one more player in that department. Mikel Arteta appears to be past his best at the age of 32. Even though the Spaniard has played his part for the Gunners in the past three years, he has not been entirely convincing or successful well, not to the level he was expected to anyway. With the Former Everton defensive midfielder’s contract set to run out at the end of next season, there have been suggestions that Wenger could sell him and sign a younger replacement. A number of names have been mentioned, including free agent Gareth Barry (who is 33) and Sven Bender of Bayer Leverkusen. However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s latest comments about his playing position suggest that Arsenal need not sign a defensive ...

Arsenal v Hull City - FA Cup final teams Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger kept faith with second-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for Saturday's FA Cup final against Premier League rivals Hull City at Wembley Stadium. Fabianski, 29, usually provides back-up to Wojciech Szczesny, but he has stood in for his fellow Pole in this season's domestic cup competitions. Jack Wilshere was named on the bench for Arsenal after recently returning from a two-month lay-off with a fractured foot, but fellow England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missed out due to a groin problem. Arsenal's player of the season Aaron Ramsey was paired alongside Mikel Arteta in midfield, with Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and record signing Mesut Ozil providing support for lone striker Olivier Giroud. Hull centre-back James Chester overcame a hamstring injury to line up in a three-man defence alongside captain Curtis Davies and Alex Bruce, the son of manager Steve Bruce. In the absence of cup-tied strikers Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic, ...

POSSIBLE ARSENAL ELEVEN AGAINST Hull City Arsenal head into the FA Cup final this weekend as the favourites to win at Wembley against Hull City. It’s a huge game for the Gunners because of the fact the club hasn’t won any silverware since 2005. Arsene Wenger has remained modest in the build up and he should be able to name a very strong team for the match. Here’s the eleven he may go with. GK – Lukasz Fabianski The Pole could be playing his last game for the club and Wenger will use that to motivate him, expecting a top draw performance before he signs off. RB – Bacary Sagna Wenger could also do the same thing with Sagna. He said yesterday that he has no issues with Sagna’s professionalism ahead of the game, expecting him to do his best for the team. CB – Per Mertesacker The big German should slot nicely into central defence. He’ll be a key figure in keeping the back four organised, especially if Hull are able to put together some early spells of pressure. CB – Laurent Koscielny The Fren ...
How the Emirates Stadium side could line-up in 2014/15 if Arsene Wenger secures the top talents he needs to help steer the Gunners to major silverware. Goalkeeper - Wojciech Szczesny Young Pole to retain his spot between the sticks. Made a few glaring errors in 2013/14 but on the whole is a safe pair of hands and a player with a bright future. Left-Back - Kieran Gibbs England man gets the nod over Nacho Monreal and has earned another season as first choice in the position. Centre-Back - Per Mertesacker German international has been rock solid this season, forming a near flawless partnership with Koscielny that may well lead to Thomas Vermaelen seeking a summer exit. Centre-Back - Laurent Koscielny Frenchman has been reliable as ever and is arguably one of Arsenal's most consistent performers and is sure to play a prominent role at the upcoming World Cup finals. Right-Back - Serge Aurier With Bacary Sagna likely to leave Arsenal when his contract expires Arsenal are said to be closing in on the highly rate ...
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is plotting moves for the Premier League trio of Wilfried Bony, Micah Richards and Morgan Schneiderlin in an attempt to bolster key areas for the Gunners according to Caughtoffside.com. The Gunners lack depth in their strike force and have also long been craving for a capable enforcer in midfield. The likely departure of 31-year old French defender Bacary Sagna from the Emirates in the summer means that Wenger also needs to look at a top quality right-back to bolster his defence. Wilfried Bony has scored 25 goals this season for Swansea, which makes him a handy acquisition for Wenger, whilst Manchester City’s want away defender Micah Richards too is proven Premier League material, albeit injury prone. Wenger is also said to have grown into a fan of Southampton enforcer Morgan Schneiderlin over the last couple of seasons, and feels that the 24-year old Frenchman is the ideal long term replacement for Arsenal’s 32-year old midfield general Mikel Arteta. Arteta’s place as ...

ARSENAL fans believe the Everton boss would be a better option for the Gunners than the The Boss now, frenchman ARSENE WENGER, who has overseen the club's fall from first to fourth . Roberto Martinez would be a better option than Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to readers who voted in our poll. The Everton boss has enjoyed a remarkable season since taking over from David Moyes, with the Toffees currently riding high in fifth, one point behind Arsenal and with a game in hand. Martinez's side comprehensively thrashed Wenger's men at Goodison Park on Sunday, with the hosts running out 3-0 winners following strikes from Steven Naismith, Romelu Lukaku and an own goal from Mikel Arteta. Mr Wenger, meanwhile, admits his side 'lack charisma' after a run of four Premier League games without a win. to Offer Player Plus Cash In Pursuit of Everton Wide-Man Arsenal are preparing an offer for Everton wing-back Seamus Coleman that Arsene Wenger hope will tempt Roberto Martinez into selling the in-form Republic of Ireland international according to Football Direct News. Read more Arsenal FC news. Wenger will offer the services of former Toffees star Mikel Arteta as well as a cash sum in return for the 25 year old wide-man, who has been a pivotal part of Everton’s successful campaign both defensively as well as in the final third. 32 year old Spaniard Arteta has had an average campaign and has just over a year to run on his current contract and could be tempted by a return to Goodison Park. Martinez has seen Gareth Barry impress during his loan spell this season but the Man City man’s wage demands will probably scupper any chance of such a deal becoming permanent and as such a move to bring in Arteta could be worth considering. Everton paid just £60k for Coleman and Martinez would be loathed to lose t ...
Arsenal have collected only two points in their last four games in the Premier League and Arsene Wenger has lamented about the lack of confidence in his squad as a key factor. Their recent form at Wembley is not very impressive either, as they have lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the 2009 FA Cup semi-finals and suffered a similar defeat to Birmingham City in the 2011 League Cup final. Wenger continues to endure selection limitations through injuries as Jack Wilshere (foot), Abou Diaby (knee), Laurent Koscielny (calf), Serge Gnabry (knee), Mesut Ozil (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (knee) are all out. Kieran Gibbs (ankle), Tomas Rosicky (thigh) and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain will have to pass a late fitness test if they are to be involved, but all three trained today. Mathieu Flamini picked up his tenth yellow card of the season when Arsenal lost 3-0 to Everton at Goodison Park last weekend, so Aaron Ramsey will probably get his first start this year by partnering Mikel Arteta in central midfield. Ramsey was crucial to A ...
Arsene Wenger is ready to thrust Aaron Ramsey straight back into Arsenal's FA Cup campaign. Ramsey came on as a second-half substitute in Sunday's loss at Everton after nearly four months out with a thigh injury. Wenger will be without Mathieu Flamini, who begins a two match ban, on top of the absences through injury of fellow midfielders Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott. With the North Londoners also acutely aware that they've got West Ham and Hull in quick succession after Saturday and Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may not be able to play all three games, they could use on-loan Kim Kallstrom against Wigan. Keeper Lukasz Fabianski, who has played instead of first-choich Wojciech Szczesny throughout the cup run, is set to feature at Wembley after not making the Everton trip because of illness. -JCon
Arsene Wenger has to go.. And he needs to take Yaya Sanogo, Mikel Arteta and Olivier Giroud with him.. On a serious note, RIP August Wooter!!!
Arsene Wenger, Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have got to go this summer.
Why is Arsene Wenger so loyal to Mikel Arteta? Hope he repays the faith today.
Jamie Redknapp says Mathieu Flamini has proved he needs to play in more big games for Arsenal until Arsene Wenger signs a younger model. The Frenchman scored a surprise equaliser for the Gunners in their 1-1 draw with Premier League title favourites Manchester City and impressed in a midfield role alongside Mikel Arteta. Redknapp said Arsenal benefited from having two hard-working players in the centre of the pitch and called on Wenger to use that duo more often in crucial matches, at least until he signs a younger player who can do a similar job.
Arsenal are in talks to sign Brazilian midfielder Jorginho from Napoli in the coming summer transfer window, reports talksport. The Brazilian has attracted a host of Premier Leagueclubs since last summer when he helped Hallas Verona clinch promotion to the Serie A. Jorginho signed for Napoli in January but now reports emerging from Tutto Mercato Web confirms that the Brazilian’s agent Joao Santos was in London this week holding talks with Premier League side Arsenal. Santos is also expected to fly to Italy in the second week of April to hold talks with Napoli officials over a possible switch for his client with Tottenham also being in the fray. It is believed that the Brazilian wants to hone his skills in England’s top tier football and Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a holding anchor for his midfield to replace Mikel Arteta in the middle of the park. Jorginho fits the bill perfectly thanks to his incisive passing nimble footwork and dazzling dynamism on the ball. The 22 year old has so far made .. ...
By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent Arsenal have no plans to offer Mikel Arteta a contract extension as the club set their sights on a new central midfielder, Goal understands. The Spaniard will have only a year remaining on his current deal in the summer but has been ignored in the recent flurry of fresh contracts handed to senior players. Arteta's future beyond this season is up in the air as the Gunners target central midfield reinforcements with a transfer kitty for new signings, upwards of £100million. The Former Everton man has remained a first- team regular in his third season at Emirates Stadium but turned 32 on Wednesday and has noticeably struggled against top-class opposition this season. The lengthy absences of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey have helped Arteta keep his place in the team as Arsene Wenger puts his faith in his experienced campaigner and a player regarded as a leader and strong character in the dressing room. But the Spaniard could be surplus to requirements in the summer if, ...

Arsenal star sorry for Chelsea 'embarrassing us' Chelsea sunk Arsenal's Premier League title hopes with an easy 6-0 beating at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, March 22, in a loss that provided the club's supporters with even further humiliation as Liverpool slayed the Gunners 5-1 just one month prior, in a season where Arsene Wenger has been continually found out by the division's elite. The North Londoners were down three goals inside 17 minutes two days ago in a sad repeat of their first half capitulation against Brendan Rodgers' Reds. An Oscar brace and a Mohamed Salah strike compounded Arsenal's woes as the red and white ego limped off the West London field in the knowledge that their season now appears to rest on FA Cup success. "We are sorry, we will put it right… It hurts deeply inside," one of Arsenal's elder statesmen, Mikel Arteta, explained on the club's official website. "It's embarrassing to be on a football pitch in that situation. Psychologically it's really hard and when you go through that ...
Chelsea vs. Arsenal: 6 Things We Learned from the Gunners' Embarrassing Defeat 1.Arsene Wenger Was Ready for the 'Game of the Season,' but His Team Weren't: Before the game, Arsene Wenger spoke to the media who were previewing his 1000th match. He talked of how tight things were in the four-horse title race. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City's form and mental attitudes mean that no team can afford to slip up. He told the press conference, as per the Daily Mail: "It’s the game of the season for us because it will be against a direct opponent." Unfortunately for Le Prof, Chelsea were by far and away the better team long before the ragged Gunners resorted to damage limitation with 10 men. The complete and utter lack of pace in Arsenal's midfield meant that they were on the back foot right from the off. Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were bypassed time and time through central midfield. Perhaps the occasion of playing in their legendary manager's 1000th game was too much for certain players. ...

Steady online. (Former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta put Arsenal back in front from the spot, then Olivier Giroud struck twice as Arsene Wenger's men boosted their hopes of ending their nine-year trophy drought with a 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.)
London - Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger saluted Olivier Giroud after the French striker came off the bench and scored twice in Saturday's 4-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Giroud has been used sparingly in recent weeks - amid stories about his private life in the British tabloids - and started on the bench against Everton, with Yaya Sanogo given a chance to lead the line. With Romelu Lukaku having cancelled out Mesut Ozil's seventh-minute opener at the Emirates Stadium, the score was 1-1 when Giroud entered the fray in the 61st minute. His first major contribution was one to forget, as his encroachment into the penalty area forced Mikel Arteta to retake a penalty that he had scored to apparently put Arsenal ahead. However, the Spanish midfielder made no mistake with his second attempt and Giroud fully atoned for his indiscretion by claiming a late brace. The former Montpellier striker has now scored 18 goals in all competitions this term and Wenger hailed his contribution. "It was importan ...
ARSENAL CRUSE TO FA CUP SEMI FINAL Arsenal booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a thrilling 4-1 win over Everton at The Emirates. Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal an early lead with his first goal in three months before Romelu Lukaku drew Everton level at the break. Mikel Arteta restored Arsenal's lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half before substitute Olivier Giroud scored two goals in two minutes to send Arsene Wenger's men to Wembley and end Roberto Martinez's hold on the FA Cup. Arsenal broke the deadlock after just seven minutes with their first attack of the game as Santi Cazorla capitalised on a slip from James McCarthy to find Ozil inside the box with a perfect slide-rule pass and the German coolly slotted the ball past Joel for his first goal since scoring against Everton in December. The goal lifted Arsenal and Yaya Sanogo and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both saw shots from the edge of the area pushed away by Joel as the home side went in search of a second goal. Evert ...
Arsenal get back to domestic action this weekend following the international break as they welcome Everton to the Emirates on Saturday for their FA Cup quarter final clash. Arsene Wenger must be cursing his luck following the news that Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for six weeks after fracturing a bone in his left foot while playing for England on Wednesday Night. It’s obviously a huge blow to lose Jack for whats going to be a season-defining period, but we have to get on with it and make do with those players that are available. The likelihood is that Arsene Wenger will choose to start Mikel Arteta alongside Mathieu Flamini this weekend, although Tomas Rosicky could be another option in the middle. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to start on the wing as he was one of the few players to come away from our defeat at Stoke last week with any credit. At the back we have a slight doubt over Laurent Koscielny after he missed France’s game last night with a tight hamstring, but he should be okay to f ...
Arteta: You need a big squad (PA) Tuesday 25 February 2014 Share Arsenal's strength in depth through midfield can give them an edge in the English Premier League title race, according to Mikel Arteta. While many pundits had predicted a new year collapse, the Gunners trail leaders Chelsea by just a point heading into the final dozen matches of the campaign, although third-place Manchester City have a game in hand. Much had been made of Arsenal's lack of attacking back-up for main frontman Olivier Giroud following the season-ending injury to Theo Walcott, but Arsene Wenger certainly has plenty of options in a supporting role. Arteta had returned to the starting XI in Saturday's 4-1 win over Sunderland following suspension for the UEFA Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich, with Mathieu Flamini on the bench. Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who had been in sublime form before a thigh injury sidelined him on Boxing Day, is close to a return - all of which will bolster Arsenal's selection choices for the run- ...
Mikel Arteta is suspended for the last 16 first leg with Arsene Wenger expected to make changes from the side who beat Liverpool in the FA Cup. Wingers Franck Ribery (buttock) and Xherdan Shaqiri (thigh) both miss out for Bayern. Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is fit again after an ankle injury. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has seen his Gunners side go out in the first knockout round of the Champions League in each of the last three seasons. He said: "Football is not a chess game, it belongs to the players. When the game starts, it's (about) the right decisions on the pitch. "We as managers prepare the team to do well, we take responsibilities when it doesn't go well, but don't forget the main heroes are out on the pitch, not on the bench. "They play a bit higher up as a unit (since winning the Champions League last season), but overall they have the same players. Schweinsteiger is coming back and he has been replaced by Thiago, who is a Spanish-type player, but overall the players are the same." Germany ...
Wenger: Arsenal have belief Arsene Wenger says his side's strong domestic campaign has given them the belief they can overcome Bayern Munich in their mouthwatering Champions League last-16 tie. The gunners who are one point behind chelsea at the top of the Premier League and into the last eight in the english FA cup host the defending European champions for the first leg on Wednesday evening with last years defeat at same stage of the competition fresh in Wenger's mind. His side's 2:0 win over Munich was not enough to seal them passage into the quater finals after their 1:3 home loss in the 1st leg and Wenger is determined to avoid a repeat this year. "We have a strong team spirit, a strong desire to do well and a united team. Belief is built by result and on that front, we are stronget of course he said" Last year we went out on the away goal, so that shows it's important not conceed at home. Our home form will be vitally in this tie. But i think we are better mental shape than we were a year ago. We los ...

Arsenal boss to spend big and bring Premier League ace to Emirates?.There has been some reports emerge which have claimed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin to replace Mikel Arteta The Gunners boss is a big fan of the Saints midfield ace, who he sees as Arteta’s long-term successor. Wenger has at least £100million to spend this summer, when Arteta enters the last year of his deal. And he is ready to splash out £15m for Schneiderlin, who joined Saints from Strasbourg for £1.2m in 2008. Arteta, 31, has yet to be offered a new deal and is likely to have a reduced squad role in future. (The Sun) He could be a decent buy

Mikel Arteta admits he had never seen Arsene Wenger as angry as he was at half-time at Anfield on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta: "I've never seen Arsène Wenger angrier than he was at Anfield."
The Gunners boss conceded that his players performed at such a low level against the Reds that they made it "impossible" for themselves to get anything out of the game Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal were "feeble in every aspect" in Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing at Liverpool. The Frenchman watched his side concede four goals in the first 20 minutes at Anfield and Raheem Sterling added a fifth after the break before Mikel Arteta converted a consolation penalty. It was only the fourth time in Premier League history that the Gunners had let in five goals or more but the second occasion this season and Wenger conceded afterwards that his side had not been strong enough. “We were feeble in every important aspect of playing at the highest level: concentration, strength in the challenge and naivety. So from that moment on it’s impossible to win a game when you’re at that level,” Wenger told reporters. “We’ve been well beaten twice now, and twice with an early kick-off away from home [having lost 6-3 at Man ...

Liverpool produced one of the performances of the season with a stunning 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield. A blistering four-goal blitz inside the opening 20 minutes from Liverpool effectively put the game beyond Arsene Wenger's side. Martin Skrtel scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to put Liverpool in firm control and further strikes from Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge gave the home side an unassailable 4-0 lead before half-time. Sterling netted the fifth goal early in the second half with Mikel Arteta's penalty the only blot on Liverpool's copybook in what was a perfect day for Brendan Rodgers' side as they enhanced their top four aspirations and dented Arsenal's title bid. Liverpool came racing out of the blocks and hit the front in the very first minute when Steven Gerrard whipped in a free-kick and Skrtel, unmarked inside the six-yard box, bundled the ball home past Wojciech Szczesny with his knee. The home side continued to pour forward in the opening exchanges and Szczesny did well to bloc ...
Mikel Arteta's international snub mystifies Spanish press Mikel Arteta should be given Spain recognition, says Marca journalist Spain may have a wealth of talent in midfield positions, with Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Xabi Alonso just a few among their esteemed number, but it still seems something of an anomaly that they have never been able to find room for Mikel Arteta. It is a subject that has not gone unnoticed in the Spanish press, with Madrid newspaper Marca running a story from journalist Ignacio Lopez Alberto questioning just why Arteta has been overlooked for so long. Lopez believes it is 'mystifying' that Arteta has never made an appearance for his country, with the Arsenal vice-captain included in just one provisional Spain squad five years ago before he pulled out through injury. Arteta has established himself as one of the most accomplished players in his position during almost a decade in the Premier League, while he was become integral to Arsenal since being deployed in a deeper role by Arsene ...
being left as the only fully fit central midfielder after Aaron Ramsey's latest setback, the Spaniard believes that the Gunners are capable of "dealing with it" Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is unconcerned by the club's depleted midfield options and insists that Arsene Wenger's side will "deal with it". The Gunners saw Mathieu Flamini sent off in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Southampton, which could prompt their usurpation at the top of the Premier League on Wednesday, while Aaron Ramsey has suffered a new thigh injury, Jack Wilshere has lingering ankle issues and Arteta himself has also spent time on the sidelines this season. Wenger is believed to have made an enquiry for Paris Saint-Germain's Blaise Matuidi as he seeks to replenish his midfield options but the Spaniard is confident that his side can work around their problems despite a demanding run of upcoming fixtures. "That happens and we have to deal with it," Arteta told the press. "The schedule is really busy now - we have some really tough games comi ...
Jack Wilshere is not in the Arsenal squad that visits Southampton on Tuesday night, Goal can reveal. The midfielder misses the clash at St Mary’s Stadium with an ankle injury, and is also doubtful for the Gunners’ Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Arsene Wenger admitted on Monday that Wilshere was "a doubt" for the Southampton trip after suffering the latest in a long line of ankle problems in Arsenal’s FA Cup win over Coventry City last Friday. However, it is not expected at this stage that Wilshere will face an extended spell on the sidelines. Arsenal's preparations for the Saints match have also been hampered by several first-teamers missing training on Monday through illness, but it is unlikely to have a significant effect on the composition of the starting XI. Wenger’s midfield is reinforced on Tuesday night by the long-awaited return to the squad of Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta. Ramsey has been out since Boxing Day with a grade two thigh strain, while Arteta has not fig ...
Liverpool will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day after Arsenal and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in driving rain at the Emirates Stadium. Jose Mourinho's men wasted the two best chances of a cagey first half, with Frank Lampard striking the underside of the crossbar with a fierce volley and Willian forcing a low save from Wojciech Szczesny. Clear chances remained at a premium after the break, but Olivier Giroud spurned two big opportunities for either side on the night and Cesar Azpilicueta cleared Bacary Sagna's header off the line late on. Jose Mourinho made it 10 matches against Arsene Wenger as Blues manager without suffering defeat as the Gunners saw their winless Premier League run extended to three games. Wenger made four changes from the side beaten 6-3 by Manchester City last time out, Thomas Vermaelen replacing the injured Laurent Koscielny in defence, while Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta came in for the suspended Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini in midfield. Frank Lampard was ...
ARSENAL AND CHELSEA DRAW 0-0 AT Emirates Stadium Arsenal and Chelsea shared a scrappy goalless stalemate at the Emirates on Monday to leave Liverpool top at Christmas. In a tight opening period in this London derby, Frank Lampard volleyed against the bar. John Obi Mikel was perhaps fortunate to avoid a red card for a studs-up tackle on Mikel Arteta and, in the same move, referee Mike Dean also opted not to award a penalty when Willian tripped Theo Walcott. After the break, Olivier Giroud shot wide and Thomas Vermaelen had an effort cleared off the line by Cesar Azpilicueta as Arsenal could not find the win they needed to retake the Premier League lead. The Gunners are now level on points with Liverpool at the top, while the stalemate sees Chelsea move back into fourth, two points off the top. The draw means Arsene Wenger remains without a victory over Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger says that Mikel Arteta's sending-off against Napoli was "harsh".
Arsenal through despite loss to Napoli Arsenal progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Napoli, but ended up finishing second in their group. Before kick-off Arsene Wenger’s side needed only to avoid defeat by three goals or more, provided Borussia Dortmund beat Marseille, to progress. The German club duly won 2-1 in France. It was Gonzalo Higuain, a summer target of Wenger’s before he signed for the Italian club, who got Napoli’s first goal, turning on the edge of the box and firing into the bottom corner with less than 20 minutes remaining. Mikel Arteta was then sent off for a second bookable offence with a quarter of an hour to go. Jose Callejon then doubled Napoli’s lead in injury time, but with only seconds left Arsenal were able to see out the win. Dortmund’s win sealed them top spot by virtue of goals scored, with themselves and Arsenal level on 12 points, head-to-head record and goal difference. Napoli also finished on 12 points but fini ...

Arsenal 1 Everton 1: Post-Match Thoughts and Player Ratings. The Gunners had been on a high in the Premier League with three consecutive victories after the disappointing defeat to Manchester United. With the Gunners’ direct title rivals all dropping points, the onus was on them to make a statement with a win over a much-improved Everton side under new guidance, but that didn’t quite pan out. Arsene Wenger fielded a familiar side with Bacary Sagna still missing out with a hamstring injury allowing Carl Jenkinson to feature in his stead. That meant returns for regulars like Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud in the starting lineup. Listed below are Gooner Daily’s ratings for Arsenal’s disappointing draw with Everton; Wojciech Szczesny: Despite the fact that Everton, rather surprisingly, had more possession than the Gunners, they didn’t really penetrate the Gunners. However, I’m in the opinion that he could have done better from Gerard Deulofeu’s strike, as the ball c ...

Former Gunner and Chelsea star could make return to Arsenal in January transfer window, but Manchester City may attempt to hijack deal. Arsenal will battle Manchester City in January for the right to sign Lassana Diarra from Lokomotiv Moscow, according to the Daily Mirror. The former Chelsea midfielder has greatly impressed in the Russian side's ranks since moving to the capital in August, and both Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. Diarra also previously played for Arsenal in 2007, but was rarely given a first team opportunity by Wenger, and had more success with Chelsea and Portsmouth. He signed for Real Madrid in 2009 before again moving on. Diarra is tenacious in the tackle, athletic, and a fine passer of the ball, and at 28 he is younger than both Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, while not likely to cost the earth.

Robin Van Persie punished his former club once more with the winner as Manchester United came out on top in the battle with Premier League leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford. Van Persie, who scored for United against Arsenal in both games last season following his £24m move, gave United a precious three points with a fine 27th-minute header from Wayne Rooney's corner. Gunners Manager Arsene Wenger insisted before the game that Van Persie was still "an Arsenal man" but the Dutch striker showed no hesitation in celebrating the goal that pushed United up to fifth in the table and to within five points of their opponents. United boss David Moyes knew defeat would have left them 11 points adrift in the title race, a gap which might have proved beyond even the reigning champions. Wenger revealed sickness in his camp had deprived him of defender Per Mertesacker and midfielder Tomas Rosicky, while Mikel Arteta was fit to start despite also feeling unwell. This may have contributed towards a decidedly flat first 45 ...
Ruthless Gunners expose Liverpool's limitations Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey and Liverpool's Jordan Henderson battle for the ball at the Emirates yesterday Dion Fanning – 03 November 2013 Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the table last night. This fact should make their credibility as title challengers self-evident. But this is no normal season. They met Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday with the implicit understanding that, despite occupying the top two places by the time the game began, one would be dismissed as genuine contenders with a defeat. "It was vital to win today," Arsene Wenger said. "If we had not won today people would say Arsenal cannot win the big games." Arsenal triumphed thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, who scored his 10th of the season and can, at this stage, probably be considered a phenomenon. Their victory was a triumph for Wenger's promotion of his team ethic. Mikel Arteta was outstanding, dominating through intelligence and precision against a Liverpo ...
Why Wenger’s Arsenal Are The Unquestionable Premier League Title Favourites Following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday, we read analysis far and wide about how the Gunners title credentials had been unmasked by the result. These theories gained traction among many analysts during the course of this week, but they were laughable. Bashing Arsene Wenger has long proven to be a rite of passage in certain areas of the British press. Yet the Arsenal Manager has a side that he built with his own hands that, from where I sit, is the most complete team in England. Arsenal, unlike most of the top sides in English football, have already been tested depth wise and come out ahead. Losing the likes of Lukas Podolski, Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade- Chamberlin and Theo Walcott to injury so early in the season could have been a devastating blow to most sides. However it gave Arsene Wenger a chance to show off his club’s depth and sense of purpose this season. The Gunners have pla ...
Arsenal get MORE bad injury news from Gnabry and Flamini I really cannot remember Arsenal, or any team for that matter, having so many players on the sidelines through injury right from the start of the season. We have had Vermaelen, Monreal, Sagna, Arteta, Wilshire, Rosicky, Walcott, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sanogo, Ryo, Zelalem and Diaby out for various reasons already in this campaign. And just when it seemed to be getting a little bit better for Arsene Wenger, with the return of Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla, the manager has been hit by more problems. Le Prof has revealed on Arsenal.com that the Gunners are going to have to face the in form Liverpool at the Emirates tomorrow without Mathieu Flamini and Serge Gnabry. And these two have become really important to Wenger’s plans this season, so it could cause a big problem. The French midfielder has added the steel that many fans have been demanding for a long time, while Gnabry has been a revelation and has saved Arsenal from missing the Ox and ...
Arsenal - Chelsea Preview: Gunners looking for first win over Blues in two years High-flying Arsenal will look for their first win against Chelsea in more than two years in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday. The Premier League table-toppers bounced back from their first loss in more than two months - which came in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund - with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday. Goals from Mikel Arteta via the penalty spot and an Olivier Giroud header sealed the points for Arsenal, who have not lost an away match in any competition since March. Arteta was later sent off and will miss the Chelsea clash, with Arsene Wenger's side keen to reverse a trend that has seen them fail to defeat their London rivals in their last three meetings. There are still significant injury problems for Arsenal, with Theo Walcott (abdominal), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby (both knee) as well as Lukas Podolski (hamstring) on the sidelines, while Mathieu Flamini (groin) has a ...

Arsene Wenger Hails Wojciech Szczesny Performance In Crystal Palace Win It has been reported that Arsene Wenger was impressed with his side’s resilient performance but was angered at Mikel Arteta’s red card in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. The Frenchman however reserved special praise for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczseny, saying he had stepped up a level since last season. “You see the quality of a keeper with the timing of his saves,” Wenger said. “That was two important moments of the game. He is more consistent this season, better focus and he reads the game better.”

Predicted Line up ! French holding midfielder Mathieu Flamini looks likely to miss out.Aaron Ramsey was rested at the weekend, although had to play 60 minutes due to Flamini’s injury, and will start from the outset on Tuesday evening. With Flamini out, Mikel Arteta will play an anchoring midfield role, allowing the in form Wilshere to combine with Ramsey and get forward from the middle of the park. Santi Cazorla made his return and will likely dovetail with Mesut Ozil in the attacking midfield positions once again. If French boss Arsene Wenger reckons two games in such a short space of time is too much for the playmaker, Tomas Rosicky may start instead, with Theo Walcott still two weeks away from returning. Olivier Giroud will definitely start up top, with Nicklas Bendtner currently the only fit option in reserve for Wenger
Dortmund’s defensive dilemma Jurgen Klopp’s side have had a host of injury problems this season. Midfield playmaker Ilkay Gundogan is a long-term absence through injury, while first choice right-back Lukasz Piszczek is out until November. Mats Hummels is likely to return to the side after missing last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Hannover through suspension. On paper, Dortmund’s strongest available line-up is as follows: Wilshere and Ramsey... or Ramsey and Wilshere? Arsenal have their own injury problems, with Arsene Wenger today confirming that Mathieu Flamini is set to miss the Dortmund game through injury. That’s a huge blow for the Gunners, as the Frenchman has been vital in adding some solidity to their normally lightweight midfield. In his place, Wenger may decide to partner Mikel Arteta with Jack Wilshere, and ask the Englishman to do a more restrained job than usual, curtailing his attacking threat somewhat for more energy in the middle. Nacho Monreal, meanwhile, could return to the team ...

Mikel Arteta believes Mesut Ozil’s arrival has raised standards at Arsenal and is convinced they are better placed to challenge for trophies than in previous seasons. The German, who joined the club in a £42.4million record deal, was outstanding in last night’s 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League, scoring the first goal and setting up the second for Olivier Giroud. Ozil appears to have breathed life into Arsene Wenger’s side and Arteta (above, with Ozil) said: “His signing was a great message because everyone was expecting a top player, probably a striker, but we got an amazing player who lifted everyone. It’s not only the players. You can see people are excited to come and watch again and that makes a big difference. When there is a player capable of producing the finish he did against Napoli, you start winning games that maybe you were losing. “A player like Ozil gives you a step forward quality-wise and gives you another player on the pitch who can decide the game for you. “He pr ...
Off the pitch... Tuesday was Arsene Wenger’s 17th anniversary as Arsenal manager. France midfielder Abou Diaby visited Islington Museum as part of the Club's ongoing celebrations to mark 100 years in Islington. Mikel Arteta spoke about the importance of learning language skills ahead of the European Day of Languages. And the Club announced Gatorade as its Official Sports Drink and Sports Nutrition partner.
Arsène Wenger on Mikel Arteta:. He is fine, he just had cramp.
Premier League Who makes way for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal? When it comes to Arsenal's lack of silverware in recent years, the media are quick to highlight the lack of experienced leaders within central midfield. Indeed, throughout Arsenal's 1997-98 Premier League winning season, Emmanuel Petit and Patrick Vieira's leadership played a crucial part in clinching the Gunners' first league title since 1991 – and Arsene Wenger's first on English soil. It is, then, encouraging news that Mikel Arteta returned to training last Friday following a thigh injury which has seen him miss all of Arsenal's opening fixtures. Wenger was quick to highlight Arteta's importance, saying “he is very influential and he's a leader - one of the leaders of the team and he's a technical leader as well." The Frenchman also went on to add: “I believe Arteta will get back into the team and they will all get their share of games. You calculate in a squad the maximum the players can play is 70 per cent of the games, so that is a lot ...
Match preview: West Bromwich Albion vs Arsenal Arsenal head to the hawthorns for the Capital One Cup to face Steve Clarkes side. Arsenal are 10 matches unbeaten away from home and would want to maintain their away form. Arsene Wenger told Arsenal player that the team would be a mixture of young and experienced players. Theo Walcott is set to miss the tie with an abdominal injury and would undergo a minor surgery that would rule him out until the international break; the injury was a bit serious than expected. Thomas Vermalen and Mikel Arteta are set to make a comeback after being sidelined for a while.Bendtner could also start after being out for two years on loan. Viviano could be given a try in goal after Fabianski just returned from illness. In theabsence of Walcott, the young German Serge Gnabry and Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi could get a bit of first team action. Gnabry has been tipped by Wenger to be a success this season and said that he has the potential to play as a winger ,striker or even as a ...
Mesut Ozil had a hand in all three Arsenal goals as they chalked up their seventh consecutive victory by comfortably beating Stoke. Aaron Ramsey notched his seventh goal in eight games by knocking in after Asmir Begovic saved Ozil's free-kick. Stoke equalised before the break when Geoff Cameron steered in after Marko Arnautovic hit the post. Play media Arsenal 3-1 Stoke: Arsene Wenger hails 'very important' win Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna then headed in Ozil set-pieces as Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League. This result was another demonstration of how Ramsey and Ozil, making his home debut, are becoming pivotal players for the Gunners. Yet with a still lengthy injury list, there was a further worry for Wenger when Theo Walcott was ruled out before kick-off with a pelvic abdominal injury. However, his 18-year-old German deputy, Serge Gnabry, looked comfortable in his first game of the season. Mikel Arteta also returned for the final 10 minutes following a thigh problem. Arsene Wenger confirms that midfielder Mikel Arteta could return this weekend against Stoke City at the Emirates on Sunday.
Mathieu Flamini: The shrewdest signing of the summer The return of the deep-lying midfielder to Arsenal has so far been an unqualified success Whilst Mesut Ozil's transfer to Arsenal attracted the main headlines in the summer, it is the less glamorous acquisition of Mathieu Flamini that has arguably been the more useful addition to Arsenal's squad. The French midfielder, signed on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract from AC Milan, has returned to the club where he made his name with some tireless performances. Operating at the heart of midfield, spoiling opposition attacks while engineering his own, he has once again endeared himself to the Arsenal faithful. His signing may turn out to be one of the smartest moves of the summer by Arsene Wenger. Arsenal desperately lacked cover for Mikel Arteta at the base of midfield; the signing of Flamini will more than provide that, in fact in evidence of recent performances he will be competing with the Spaniard for that position when Arsenal's vice-captai ...
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta feels Arsene Wenger has not yet decided whether to extend his contract at the club
Force? L☹L RT“Arsene Wenger admits Mikel Arteta injury will force him into the transfer market”
The Gunners ' sale of Alex Song to Barcelona last summer meant that boss Arsene Wenger's only option was to move Mikel Arteta in to a deeper role, deployed as the most defensive of the Frenchman's midfield trio. Wenger's somewhat risky strategy to effectively convert the Spaniard paid off for the majority of the season - Arteta was one of the North Londoner's most consistent, efficient and effective players. It's no coincidence that Arsenal 's defensive record in 2013 was better than any other team in the Premier League - they secured Champions League qualification over archrivals Spurs via an unbeaten run of 10 games. It seems increasingly likely, however, that Wenger will bring in a ready-made defensive midfielder, along the lines of Etienne Capoue or Victor Wanyama who have both been linked with a move to Emirates in recent weeks which begs the question: what happens to Arteta? When he arrived in North London on deadline day back in 2011, he was tasked with replacing the outgoing Cesc Fabregas. The lon ...
Stewart Robson (ex Arsenal player): "I am not expecting any marquee signings at Arsenal. There is a lot of talk about it, but I don't know if I would trust Arsene Wenger with that money. Over the last few years some of the players that he has said were going to be world class haven't ended up like that - people like Philippe Senderos, Denilson, Marouane Chamakh, Armand Traore, Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela, Emmanuel Eboue, Park Chu-young, Lukasz Fabianski, Gervinho and Andre Santos. Over the last two seasons they have spent some money on Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Mikel Arteta, Nacho Monreal, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos. They haven't been top-class players. Arsene Wenger doesn't appear to want to sign the top-class players, or what other people would describe as top-class players. He goes out and says: 'I can buy you cheaper players for a better price who are going to be world-class players in the future', but that hasn't been the case in the last few years. Some of the play ...
Arsenal are planning an approach for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender. The Mail Online believes the German international could be available for £15m this summer and Arsene Wenger will hope the 24-year-old can add depth and quality to the Gunners' options in that position, as well as give creative players like Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere more of a license to move forward and join the attack.*-Y.K-*
Arsenal getting closer to landing one of their summer targets Lyon star Clement Grenier has admitted that he will leave his current club in the summer, but kept his destination a tad under wraps. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is very keen to sign the 22 year old midfield man, and recent reports suggest that he might very well be joining the London club. The Frenchman said that he had already made his decision about his future, including choosing the club, and although he refused to reveal his choice, he announced that it was purely because of sporting reasons. Grenier was brilliant with Lyon in the recently concluded season, and scored 7 times in thirty two appearances, and also assisting in nine goals. Arsenal have lacked depth in midfield, mainly due to injuries to Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Mikel Arteta, and are in the transfer market for new midfielders, with Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons also a target. Grenier, who has represented France in all forms of youth football, recently earned his first call up fo ...
Arsene Wenger builds his teams based on youth prospects for the future and the desire to secure Arsenal's future, but it can be argued that a lack of experience in his sides is one of the biggest contributing factors to Arsenal's dismal run of eight seasons without a trophy. Wenger's record is undisputed: he has found gems in Europe, and nurtured their talent until they can be considered some of the best players in the world. However, on the competition front, even the most die-hard Wenger fans are starting to admit he needs to adjust his transfer policy. This is a list of some of the players that could help Arsenal to a first trophy in eight years. Julio Cesar | Queens Park Rangers After QPR's disastrous season, they have been left with a bloated wage outlet and some truly quality players that are above Championship level. Julio Cesar is one of those, meaning he will be available low-cost. Considered one of the best keepers in Europe, he shocked the world when signing for QPR. However, Arsenal is a more ...

Mikel Arteta – 43 Apps, Six Goals, Six Assists With a pass completion percentage of 91.5 percent, Mikel Arteta ranks among the best passers in European football. With Thomas Vermaelen promoted to the rank of captain, Arteta assumed the mantle of the Verm’s second in command and he led the troops whenever the Verm wasn’t available. With Alex Song leaving for the sunshine of Barcelona, Arsene Wenger tasked Arteta with an unfamiliar holding midfield role, and he excelled admirably in the role this season. In 34 Premier League games, Arteta made 108 tackles, 97 interceptions and 2,750 passes with 2,517 passes reaching its intended target. Arteta also had the coolest of heads from the penalty spot, converting spot kicks against West Brom (home), Wigan (away), Norwich (home) and Reading (home). He will forever rue his late penalty miss against Fulham (home) that was the difference between three points and one. His influence on the pitch was unrivaled and I must confess that my heart skipped a beat when he ...
Barcelona have received 3 offers for David Villa: From Arsenal, Spurs &.Liverpool Catalan paper Sport report on Friday morning that the 31-year-old forwardis now weighing up which Premier League side to join. Barcelona’s only concern is that they receive their asking price for David Villa which is set at 14 million euros. Villa’s first choice is understood to be Arsenal. Arsene Wenger showed interest in the former Valencia hitman during the January transfer window, plus the Gunners will be playing Champions League football next season. Fellow Spaniards Santi Cazorla, Nacho Monreal and Mikel Arteta are also already at the Emirates and Villa feels this is the best option in terms of securing his place in the Spain squad for the World Cup next summer.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR AM -- Santi Cazorla -- Although he faded a bit towards the end, he got 12 goals and 13 assists and was the only player to appear in every Premier League game. A great first season in English football. SL -- Santi Cazorla -- The Spaniard was a constant attacking threat and instantly became the creative hub of the team. He's comfortably the best attacking player Arsene Wenger has signed in the last few years and, albeit a year late, filled the Cesc Fabregas-shaped hole in the middle. RUNNER-UP AM -- Per Mertesacker -- The big German established himself as the most consistent and reliable of Arsenal's centre-halves, and even if Laurent Koscielny caught the eye in the final part of the season, Mertesacker's consistency gives him the edge SL -- Per Mertesacker -- I'm in agreement again because of how important Mertesacker is in leading the defence. For all of Arsenal's defensive criticisms, they had the second best defence in the league and the best record away from home. Mertesacker has bee ...
Arsenal secured Champions League qualification for next season with a vital 1-0 win over Newcastle at St James' Park on the final day of the Premier League season, as Laurent Koscielny's second-half volley was enough to seal fourth place. The Gunners' victory meant that regardless of how Tottenham got on against Sunderland at White Hart Lane, they would be the North London side appearing in the Champions League come September. Arsene Wenger risked Mikel Arteta from the start after the Spain midfielder was given injections in his calf on Friday to patch up the injury he sustained in the midweek win over Wigan, but the decision proved a poor one as the Gunners captain was forced off through injury in the 29th minute. Newcastle marked Steve Harper's final game by handing him the captaincy for the day, as the goalkeeper reached the end of a 20-year spell at the club. The 38-year-old was afforded a marvellous send-off by Newcastle's supporters as they chanted his name for the duration of the 37th minute, to sy ...
ARSENAL CLINCHES Champions League SPOT By Charlie Scott at St James' Park Their fans wanted a win. Their players wanted a win. Arsene Wenger demanded a win. Three months ago, Tottenham were seven points in front of Arsenal. Fast-forward to the start of play on Sunday, where the Gunners were two ahead and there was so much at stake for Wenger's men at St James' Park. They knew that any dropped points would push the door to fourth place wide open for their bitter rivals. With Spurs expected to beat Sunderland at White Hart Lane, the Gunners knew that they would have to replicate that against another North East side, Newcastle. Such was the magnitute of this game that Mikel Arteta was rushed back from a calf strain to take his place in midfield. The Spaniard was given injections on Saturday to make him available as Wenger asked everything of his players. Yet, despite a dominant start that saw Newcastle barely touch the ball until the fifth minute, Arsenal's nerves suddenly began to show. Within 90 seconds of ...
PREVIEW:- NEWCASTLE v ARSENAL. Newcastle winger Sylvain Marveaux could return after hamstring problems and Cheick Tiote should be fit after limping off last weekend. Goalkeeper Steve Harper should start after Rob Elliot, who was replacing the injured Tim Krul, was sent off last week. Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is very doubtful with a calf strain, but could be replaced by Jack Wilshere. Olivier Giroud is available again after serving a three-match ban. MATCH PREVIEW When Arsenal were beaten at Spurs at the beginning of March, it left Arsene Wenger admitting that qualifying for the Champions League looked distinctly unlikely; they were seven points adrift of Tottenham with 10 games to play. With one game to play, Arsenal are now a point ahead of their great rivals, and have qualification in their grasp. It's been quite a swing, with Arsenal taking 23 points to Spurs' 15 over the same period. So all Arsenal have to do is win at Newcastle and they will have pipped Tottenham to the riches of the Champions ...
CRY BELOVED GUNNERS! Zvatotanga, It's that time of the year again. It's the time of the year where Gunners fans (Esp This one) are made fun of, where calls for Arsene Wenger to be fired are voiced. Year in year out this is the scheduled time for discussions like 'the owners do not provide money for transfers' or 'Mr (Bean) Wenger does not want to spend money', but the truth? The evil American owners do provide money for transfers. Players like Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Nacho Monreal do not come free of charge. Niether do players like Gervinho, Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud (Here in Zim Olivier (Olivia) is a name for our ladies) and other crap Arsene does spend money, he will simply not accept paying above market value, or even paying market value for that matter, (saka what does he pay anywhere?) and he will be competing against Man City, PSG, Chelsea, clubs who dont even care about market value We long for a time were we will have players in the class of Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick . ...
Barcelona midfielder lined-up for surprise Arsenal return!! Barcelona midfielder Alex Song could be in line for a surprising return to Arsenal this summer after failing to inspire at Camp Nou. According to a report in the Daily Express, Arsene Wenger could be ready to bring back the man he sold fo £15million last summer. Arsenal have been deploying Mikel Arteta in the defensive midfield role since Song’s departure and many have criticized Gunners boss Wenger for failing to adequately replace the Cameroon international. Song has struggled to break into the starting XI under Tito Vilanova and has drifted further from first team action since the Barça boss went to New York to undergo transfer treatment. The 25-year-old has made just ten appearances in La Liga all season and only three of those have come since the turn of the year. Arsenal are reportedly set to hand Wenger a bumper transfer budget in the summer in a bid to rejuvenate his squad for next season. The Gunners now have a tough task on their ha ...
77' The away team have replaced Mikel Arteta with Lukas Podolski. This is the second substitution made today by Arsene Wenger. VS
Aaron Ramsey broke his leg on 27th February 2010. Three years ago. I understand that a footballer needs time, and I understand that the injury has greatly stunted his growth as a footballer. I just don't care. I hope that I am wrong. I hope that Aaron Ramsey becomes Jack Wilshere, a flair-filled, passionate, unbelievably talented young playmaker. But he won't. He hasn't imrpoved since 27th February 2010, and if he hasn't recovered from his injury now he never will. It isn't my job (nor is it Arsene Wenger's) to worry about a footballer that HAD immense potential. It's the players that either HAVE that potential, or the players that have already lived up to it. Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere have a wonderful, balanced midfield parternship that has been disrupted by Ramsey. I wish Ramsey all the best, and like I said I hope he becomes a wonderful footballer some day. However, Aaron Ramsey NEEDS to leave Arsenal. - Ark
Mark Lawrenson's Premier League predictions. Arsenal v Aston Villa I would count myself as an Arsene Wenger fan. What he's done over the years as Arsenal manager is absolutely outstanding. Should Wenger go? "OK, here's the Wenger thing. If he makes £50m for shareholders, him getting the boot is never going to be an issue. "It only starts getting serious if the crowds go from 60,000 to about 45,000 - then if you are running a club you'd look at it differently. "But as things stand, if you're a shareholder or on the board or both and guaranteed Champions League revenue then why would you think of sacking your manager?" But I was amazed the other night against Bayern Munich, when he chose to go with Mikel Arteta as his holding midfielder. The Spaniard should have been responsible for Toni Kroos, who played further forward. He's not that type of player and it was a strange thing to do. No wonder Bayern beat them so easily. It wasn't really about how good Bayern were, it was about how poorly Arsenal performed ...
FRUSTRATION GETTING THE BEST OF WENGER...? Arsene Wenger suffered an angry meltdown in his press conference ahead of Arsenal's Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich. Gunners boss Wenger angrily turned on journalists - including a TV reporter and written press - during a stormy 15 minute broadcast press conference for TV, radio and websites. It is the angriest that regular Arsenal observers have ever seen Wenger in a pre-match press conference as he snapped at questions, looked angry and even appeared to make Mikel Arteta - sat to his right - look uncomfortable as his temper boiled over. The Arsenal manager was distracted by a report that he was about to be offered a new two year contract which he dismissed as "false and lies." It seemed that Wenger was infuriated at the prospect that fed-up fans would be made even angrier at the notion of him staying longer and the volatile crowd would even turn nasty if they lost to Bayern Munich. Wenger was so angry that, at one point, snapped: "I'm not here to t ...

Arsenal show their Mettle So much for perceptions in football. The accepted narrative is that Stoke's physicality generally unsettles Arsenal and yet, thanks to Lukas Podolski's deflected late strike, Arsene Wenger's side continued their trend of winning every home game against their supposed nemeses. Arsenal goal celeb Podolski PA PhotosArsenal saw off Stoke, but only thanks to Lukas Podolski's deflected free-kick This wasn't exactly a case of movement against muscularity. As the Arsenal manager said after the game, his side "prepared mentally" for that challenge. In truth, they occasionally did their best to pre-empt it. The most notable example of what was a game with a fair amount of needle came when Mikel Arteta went in strongly with a Stoke-like tackle on Michael Owen. The substitute was sufficiently aggrieved to flick his arm at the midfielder, before Jack Wilshere then squared up to him. Long before that Arsenal illustrated a willingness to stand up - or even jump up - for themselves. Just before ...
EPL WEEKEND PREVIEW ARSENAL V STOKE 3PM New signing Nacho Monreal could go straight into the Arsenal side. Centre-back Thomas Vermaelen (ankle) is a doubt, but midfielder Mikel Arteta may return after his calf injury. Left-back Kieran Gibbs is set for around six weeks out with a thigh problem, while Francis Coquelin (hamstring) is also sidelined and forward Gervinho is away at the African Nations Cup. Stoke have no new injury problems. The Potters are hoping full-back Marc Wilson, who has been out since October with a broken leg, will play a reserve game next week as he builds up to a first-team return. Stoke made two new signings on transfer deadline day, goalkeeper Jack Butland and winger Brek Shea - but neither will be involved in the short term, with Butland having been loaned back to Birmingham and USA international Shea still recovering from a foot operation. Defenders Matthew Upson and Rory Delap have left the club. MANAGER QUOTES Arsene Wenger (Arsenal): "[Nacho Monreal] is available for the Stoke ...
Arsene Wenger has provided the latest Team News ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Liverpool tomorrow night. Captain Thomas Vermaelen returns to the squad having missed the trip to Brighton with an ankle knock, but Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin remain sidelined with calk and hamstring problems respectively.
Arsene Wenger has given updates on Thomas Vermaelen, Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin ahead of the match -
AGED just 21 years and 25 days, midfielder could step up in absence of injured Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta
Arsenal News this morning: -Mikel news could block new Arsenal signing Mikel Arteta is on his way back,Arteta has been an integral part of Arsenal’s midfield, playing in nearly every game this season prior to his injury lay-off which was estimated to last for about three weeks according to Arsene Wenger. -Has Santos got any future at Arsenal? Andre Santos had another shocker for Arsenal yesterday, but will it be the last time we see him in an Arsenal shirt? The Brazilian left back has been poor all season, but the worst thing, for Arsenal fans, is his attitude. His passion and drive for the club are just about the opposite to that of Jack Wilshere, but Arsene Wenger has already rejected a bid for him, so he is probably going nowhere this January. -Arsenal defender wants permanent move away! He has only just moved out on-loan to German side Hannover for the rest of the season, but it seems defender Johann Djourou has decided he would like to make the move permanent when the deal expires. -TH14
Arsene Wenger will decide on Saturday whether to name Jack Wilshere as Arsenal Captain for the first time. Skipper Thomas Vermaelen and deputy Mikel Arteta will miss the FA Cup tie at Brighton through injury.
The Gunners are set to face Brighton & Hove Albion in theFA Cup this Saturday and will do so without captain Thomas Vermaelen , who suffered an ankle injury against West Ham and vice-captain Mikel Arteta who is still currently sidelined. With midfield rotation on the cards for Wenger it is likely that Abou Diaby will return inplace of Jack Wilshere who is a candidate for Gunners captaincy further down the line, and Aaron Ramsey will quite likely continue in his favoured central midfield position but perhaps in a more advanced role in order to rest Cazorla – the Welshman has already lead Wales with the armband despite being only 22. Emmanuel Frimpong could feature too, however he is as far away from being captain than Arsene Wenger is from wearing a DENCH t-shirt to a game. The position where we should be looking is in the centre of defence. Johan Djourou was named captain on a few occasions while featuring in the Capital One Cup with many senior members were rested, but for this cup tie the partnership ...
Arsene Wenger is facing major injury problem in midfield ahead of a make-or-break showdown with West Ham tomorrow night. Wenger is without Francis Coquelin because of a hamstring injury while he will make late checks on Abou Diaby and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Lukas Podolski is set to return but Mikel Arteta is still out. It is not ideal preparation for a vital period for Arsenal as West Ham is the start of four games in 11 days which may decide as to whether Wenger reaches top four this season. Wenger said: "Coquelin is out because he has a hamstring problem from the Chelsea game. Everybody else has to be assessed today individually but there is no major injury. "We could have Podolski back in the squad because he is back to full training today. And maybe Chamberlain back in the squad because he has been sick but maybe he will go out today and practice.
CHELSEA vs ARSENAL Managers under immense pressure clash on Sunday when Arsene Wenger's Arsenal travel to face Rafael Benitez's Chelsea. Though it almost comes with the territory now, the return of the chorus of boos will bother Benitez no end after he saw his side surrender a scarcely deserved 2-0 half-time lead to a plucky Southampton side on Wednesday. The draw leaves Chelsea with only one win in their past six Premier League games at home with Stamford Bridge resembling little of the fortress it once was under Jose Mourinho some seasons ago. New signing Demba Ba provided the solitary positive against Saints with his third goal in as many games since his move from Newcastle, and may just have dislodged much-maligned Spaniard Fernando Torres, who was also booed when he came on for the final 10 minutes. But Chelsea's title hopes, like Arsenal's appear to have been well and truly dashed. The Blues are now 13 points behind leaders Manchester United, who entertain Champions League rivals Tottenham on Sunda ...
Arsenal v Swansea MOVE ON SWANSEA Arsenal without Laurent Koscienly who is suspended, also Mikel Arteta (calf), while Gervinho is away at the African Cup of Nations. Arsenal play Chelsea at the weekend, so boss Arsene Wenger could rest players tonight.
Arsenal scout midfield destroyer in advance of transfer bid ! Arsene Wenger aware that defence needs protection at Emirates Stadium, and looks set to swoop to sign Bundesliga enforcer. Arsenal are scouting Eintracht Frankfurt star Pirmin Schwegler, fanatix has learned. Bundesliga tickets The Switzerland international has shone for the Bundesliga side in defensive midfield, and could certainly do a similar job for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger hasn’t had a true destroyer in midfield since the likes of Gilberto Silva and Mathieu Flamini, with Alexandre Song more of a playmaker than an anchor player. Mikel Arteta has performed well at the base of Arsenal’s midfield for the last two seasons, but sometimes doesn’t receive a great deal of assistance from his team-mates when it comes to the less glamorous work of winning the ball back. Indeed, sometimes Arteta is targeted by opposition managers – ‘Stop Arteta and you stop Arsenal’ – and Arsene Wenger appears set to attempt to solve that problem with a ...
Arsene Wenger - AFC have so much to be grateful to him for. If it HAS to be a player Mikel Arteta
ARSENAL are keeping a close eye on Newcastles Yohan Cabaye and his battle for fitness. The Gunners were put off making an offer for Cabaye after the Toons £20million valuation of the France international midfielder, 26, last summer. But boss Arsene Wenger remains an admirer of his compatriot and reckons he would add much-needed bite, as well as creativity, to the Arsenal midfield. SOURCE: Daily Star One can very well see why Arsene Wenger would be an admirer of Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The former Lille man has been linked with interest from the North London side before but is there really any need for another central midfield option in an Arsenal squad that has a fair few players plying their trade in a similar role. When everyone is fully fit, and agreed that is rare, Wenger can call upon Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby and even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (the youngster having being used in a more central role on occasion). Cabaye had a ...

Arsene Wenger has said that Arsenal 's win over Wigan Athletic this lunchtime will give the team a boost in confidence. Mikel Arteta scored a penalty in the second half to give the Gunners a 1-0 victory , which moves them up to third in the Premier League table . The Arsenal manager told Sky Sports News: "It was a difficult game but that will give us belief and confidence. They went for us and it's a good result." "They stopped us from playing. We weren't as fluent and sharp asMonday. They had great desire." "They are in the wrong position inthe table. They have a very good midfield and their full-backs did very well." The loss leaves Wigan in the relegation zone.
FOOTBALL:- [EPL] Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger praised his side after they moved into third place in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Wigan, but admitted that he feels they still have more to give. The Gunners recorded their fourth away win of the season after Theo Walcott was brought down by Jean Beausejour on the hour, and Mikel Arteta converted from the spot. Despite the win, however, Wenger called for more from his players as they continue to recover from a damaging run of results that threatened their place in the top four. "It's good, but not enough, we want more," he told reporters. "I hope that it gives us a bit more belief and confidence and that we can play with a much more positive environment. "It's an important part of the season, I would prefer to play [on Boxing Day], when the team is on a roll you want them to go out and play."

Gunners labour to beat Wigan * Mikel Arteta's penalty proved enough for Arsenal to defeat Wigan 1-0 and make it three Barclays Premier League victories in a row for the first time since March. There was very little between the sides and it was the hosts who had the best chance of the first half but it was wasted by Arouna Kone. The goal came on the hour mark after Jean Beausejour was deemed to have fouled Theo Walcott, much to the anger of the Wigan fans, and Arteta made no mistake. The three points lifted Arsenal up to third ahead of Chelsea, who play Sunday, while Wigan remain in the bottom three and have now taken only one point from their last five games. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger named the same team that defeated Reading 5-2 on Monday, with Walcott again given a chance to impress up front. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was hoping to have a couple of his eight injured players back but it was only James McCarthy who was able to start, with captain Gary Caldwell on the bench. The Latics started with a fl ...
Mikel Arteta's second half penalty was enough to hoist Arsenal into the top four with a battling 1-0 victory at stubborn Wigan. It was tough luck on the Latics who would have dragged themselves out of the drop zone with a win and their survival concerns will weigh heavily over the Christmas table after suffering a sixth league defeat in eight matches. Meanwhile, the festive cheer continues for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and his merry men as they came away from the DW Stadium with a third successive league triumph for the first time in nine months. The lively Arouna Kone and Shaun Maloney pushed forward for some late consolation and a desperate penalty shout in injury time with the ball crashing off the arm of Kieran Gibbs provided some late drama, but it was the North Londoners who held on. Wigan may have started the match languishing at the wrong end of the table, but they more than played their part in a largely lively and open contest in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off. Roberto Martinez's tenacious men h ...
Blame divers not refs: Olsson slams Arsenal's Cazorla, and Wenger agrees! West Brom defender raging after Santi dive at Emirates – and Gunners boss Arsene WAS calling for a three-match ban... Jonas Olsson claimed divers are ruining the Premier League - and found an unlikely voice of support. West Brom defender Olsson says Santi Cazorla cheated to win Arsenal’s first penalty in the 2-0 Gunners win on Saturday, and claims it is players and not the referees who are to blame for bad decisions. But, embarrassingly, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger even claimed earlier this year that divers should get a three game ban. Wenger said on April 15: “If an obvious dive is punished by a three-match ban, the players would not do it anymore. I would support it. It has to be obvious diving.” Cazorla’s dive in the first half was as obvious as they come as TV replays showed Steven Reid made no contact with his challenge before Mikel Arteta stepped up convert the first of two spot kicks. Olsson said: “I don’t like p ...

Mikel Arteta's failure to convert an added-time penalty summed up Arsenal's frustrations as Arsene Wenger's side squandered a two-goal lead in a 3-3 draw with Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Arsenal look set to recall goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after two months out with an ankle injury. Jack Wilshere is available after suspension but Bacary Sagna, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta are all concerns for Arsene Wenger. Tottenham remain without Mousa Dembele, who is still troubled by the hip injury that has kept him out for a month. Jermain Defoe, Kyle Walker and Aaron Lennon all suffered hamstring problems last weekend but should be fit.
Normal service resumed for Arsenal? Arsenal’s bright start to the new league campaign was built upon their rarely seen before defensive solidity, but shorn of confidence further forward, slowly but surely any modicum of consistency at the back has crumbled away into dust – but is this merely a blip or a return to the norm for Arsene Wenger’s side. Arsenal have developed a worrying trend in the past five years of conceding more goals in the league than the previous year before. In 2007-8 it was 31 goals, in 2008-9 it was 37 goals, in 2009-10 it was 41 goals and in 2010-11 it was 43 goals, while last term they let in 49 on their way to finishing third. It’s become abundantly clear where the fault lies and given that Arsene Wenger recruited a centre-back in each of the summer transfer windows prior to this year’s, bringing in Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and you sense that he realises it’s the area where they need to improve the most. The appointment of Steve Bould in ...

- Luckless Wenger rues Arteta miss Goal.com cartoonist Omar Momani gives us his unique take on the football news of the day Nov 11, 2012 1:08:00 PM They so nearly got out of jail but Mikel Arteta 's saved penalty compounded Arsenal 's problems and left the home fans exiting Emirates Stadium more than a tad disgruntled. What of Arsene Wenger though? The once-great, untouchable boss has been through troubles in the past but surely they don't come close to the current predicament. The Gunners have 16 points from their first11 games - the worst league start since 1982-83 and just when you thought their luck had turned as Phil Dowd pointed to the spot for a dubious handball, Arteta stuffed up the chance. Wenger's face was a picture of disbelief, shock and strife. Just when will his luck turn?
Against Fulham, Arsenal looked a rag-tag team of individuals shot of confidence. Thomas Vermaelen went into the game with Arsene Wenger publicly admitting the captaincy was too much for him. But on Saturday's evidence, the Belgian isn't alone. Mikel Arteta had perhaps his worst game in an Arsenal shirt, being caught out for Fulham's penalty, missing one himself and struggling to hold onto the ball in key positions. Bacary Sagna also labored and doubts began to creep into Vito Mannone's game. They need a shot of inspiration. The sort of lift a big-name signing would bring. Wenger is now tipped to move for Napoli star Edinson Cavani in January. But we're talking about a potential Ballon d'Or winner. Would he want to come? Who is on the Gunners books that Cavani would be excited about playing with at Arsenal?
Arsene Wenger has refused to write off Arsenal's chances in the Premier League, but warned his side they must eliminate the defensive mistakes that have scarred recent performances. The Gunners manager watched in frustration as his side allowed a two-goal lead to slip for the second time in five days before eventually being forced to settle for a point in a 3-3 home draw with Fulham on Saturday. Wenger was critical of a defence that has now conceded 12 goals in four games. "The positive is we can score goals now. The negative is to concede three goals at home and the chances we gave away – I don't think defensively it was a historical performance," he said. Wenger was particularly frustrated by the poor marking that allowed Dimitar Berbatov to head Fulham back into the match after Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podoslki had put Arsenal 2-0 up. And the manager's efforts to remedy the problem will be hindered by the looming international week. "I feel where we are most guilty is on the corner," said Wenger. "We ...

Arsene Wenger has praised the Arsenal fans for their unflinching support recently, but knows that he owes them some better results. We nger and his vice-captain Mikel Arteta aim to start repaying the Gooners tomorrow against Schalke. Arteta is demanding an improvement from the Arsenal team, knowing that the Champions League game in Germany will not be easy, but Arsenal have the ability to win. Anything less that 100 percent effort will not be acceptable, as Arsenal try to get the season back on track. “We’ve got another massive game again. We lost against (Schalke) at home, which was a big disappointment, and it’s going to be a really tough game in Germany. “We have to bounce back. I think we have to show how much we want to win it, and go there and show big attitude. “I have no doubt about the attitude we have in the dressing room, and the desire. I think the attitude was good (against Man United). We all kept trying, even with 10 men.” I think that Arteta is going a bit easy on some of the A ...
Sir Alex's side go top with that win. For the time being, anyway. More questions than answers for Arsene Wenger's side however. It was a very lacklustre performance from the Gunners. FULL TIME at Old Trafford. The referee didn't even bother with kick-off as he blows for the end straight after that Cazorla strike, and United win 2-1. 90 +5 goal Goal Santi Cazorla GREAT GOAL FROM CAZORLA!! The visitors load the box and Cazorla - at the second time of asking - drives a superb effort from the edge of the box into the far corner. 90 +2 Rooney nearly finds himself through on goal but Mannone comes out to smother. Giroud has a fantastic chance at the other end, meeting Cazorla's low ball six yards out, but he drills it straight at De Gea. 90 +1 Arteta is booked for a clumsy challenge on Van Persie as we enter four minutes of stoppage time at Old Trafford. 90 yellow_card Mikel Arteta 90 The Arsenal fans are still singing away. Many thanks to all of you who helped make The 27th memorable through your posts, texts, calls, gifts, etc. May I also particularly thank Mikel Arteta and Arsene Wenger who wrapped up the afternoon in dramatic fashion... God bless you all- and yours, you're great people!!
The reason people want Wenger sacked is because they want more than a top 4 finish because as a club us Arsenal fans have high expectations, but remember the one who set them expectations that man was Arsene Wenger when he took over we was something like 14th in the league and the season after in his first full season in charge he won the Premier League & FA Cup double, loyalty is a rarity in the game nowadays but there are still some out there and i really do believe in our youngsters and we've now got a mix we've also got experienced players like Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski, Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertesacker, Bacary Sagna etc etc, the future is bright for this club and on our budget believe me no manager could do a better job than Arsene Wenger. You don't know what you've got until it's gone so all those who think Arsene should be sacked just think about it for a minute and if you still want him to be sacked then i honestly don't know what's wrong with you.
Who’d be in your Arsenal XI to take on Olympiakos tonight at The Emirates? by cyborg Following our rather unlucky yet deserved loss, due to our over performance, to Chelsea last Saturday, we welcome Greek champions Olympiakos to The Emirates for the second of our six Champions League Group stage matches. We will be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering our first defeat of the season over the weekend, and there is no better way to do this than take out our frustration on Olympiakos, a club we have met on a number of occasions. Last season, when we played the Greeks at home, we managed to come out as 2-1 winners and undoubtedly we’ll all be hoping to bag the three points again. Abou Diaby has been ruled out for three weeks due to a thigh strain, while Mikel Arteta is suffering from a minor ankle injury, but could still feature in the game. In addition, Jack Wilshere is finally off the treatment table and available to Arsene Wenger. With this in mind, and a London derby just a round the cor ...

emirates hitzzz Inter Interested in Unsettled Sagna- Bacary Sagna is a transfer target for Italian giants Inter Milan-RSI The Serie A club is expected to move for the Arsenal right-back if he fails to sign a new contract with his current employers. Arsenal Depot A depository for musings on Arsenal FC 16 Sep 2012 Leave a Comment Arsenal 6-1 Southampton: Firing On All Cylinders Often, the first match after an international break can throw up a disjointed team performance as players struggle to settle back into groove after exertions with their national sides. Yesterday though, Arsenal looked like a well-oiled machine, one lubricated by quality, spirit and determination. Despite the good run of form that secured third place last season, not since the 5-2 thrashing of the wannabe neighbours in February have the Gunners looked so fluent and potent in attack. Admittedly, Southampton’s defending wasn’t of the highest quality but you can only beat what’s in front of you and Arsenal were full value for both the three points and the emphatic scoreline. As expected, Arsene Wenger chose not to risk Abou Diaby and handed a start to Francis Coquelin in midfield alongside Mikel Arteta. In defense, Szczesny returned in goal while Mertesacker’s impressive ea ...

Pressed on the subject ahead of Saturday's season opener, Wenger replied: "Both could happen, but my focus is on the Sunderland game. This decision (on Song) is not made." Asked if the Gunners had received a bid, he replied: "No. I cannot tell you more." Wenger suggested he would be open to a sale, given the number of players at his disposal. "Midfield is a different area because we have nine or ten midfielders of top-class quality," he said. "Just today we have six or seven midfielders available, plus Wilshere and Frimpong who are coming back. Diaby is available again, Arteta, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ox ...

Mikel Arteta could have won us the league – and how that might affect our transfer policy Posted in The Marble Halls Blog Tagged as Mikel Arteta, Xabi Alonso May 24, 2012 As transfer season kicks into gear and Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis ponder their options behind the unusually ugly green clad facade of Highbury House there’s one man in particular that could be in their thoughts. Late last summer as the transfer window drew to a close and the club were already counting the cost of a disastrous summer, Arsene Wenger did something that he very rarely does. He bought an established, experienced 29 year old midfielder, in his peak playing years from a Premier League rival. The fact that the signing took place alongside a flurry of other transfer activity in the dying moments of the transfer window gave the impression that this was something of a panic buy. The truth is we’ll probably never know if that was the case or not. What we do know is that this was the signing that, Robin Van Persie’s extra ...
Worst Player Of The Season 'Don't worry folks, we've signed Park Chu-Young,' was Arsene Wenger's message to Arsenal fans last summer after the club sold both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. It looked as though Wenger didn't have the foggiest when, in desperation, he signed five players on deadline day. And while Mikel Arteta turned out to be an inspired piece of business (why did it take so many years for Arsenal to sign him?) Chu-Young has earned his place next to Kaba Diawara in the Gunners' Hall of Shame. One Premier League sub appearance, four passes (three successful) and no shots tells its own story, with the South Korean way below the standard required; even Marouane Chamakh 'outshone' him in a late cameo against AC Milan at the Emirates. Arsenal fans will be thankful that Robin Van Persie stayed fit throughout the campaign, as not only did the striker fire them into Europe, he also saved them from significant embarrassment.
What Arsenal Have Got in Yann M'villa Happens Faster, this seems to have come to an early conclusion – Arsenal have reportedly agree to sign Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila. Lots of different sources, lots of different people confirming it. M’Vila is a 21 year-old French international, and is the defensive midfielder Arsenal have lacked for a very long time; this is an excellent day for Arsene Wenger, this guy will be a top 5 player in his position in Europe for years to come. Outstanding. There’s no point beating around the bush – In a matter of Months if he storms the emirates,we shall see what Wenger has added to his midfield. Look out Alex Song and Mikel Arteta… M’Vila is the prototype for the modern midfielder and Arsenal have got a Class in M'villa.

Arsene Wenger branded Roberto Martinez's Wigan side "disrespectful" for what the Arsenal boss viewed as a spell of time-wasting during Monday's 2-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium. - Wilshere out of Euros - Arsenal 1-2 Wigan - Wenger frustrated by performance The Gunners found themselves two goals down inside the first ten minutes thanks to strikes from Franco di Santo and Jordi Gomez. From that moment on, despite Thomas Vermaelen halving the deficit, Wenger felt Wigan spent the remaining 80 minutes running down the clock. Goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi was booked for time-wasting in injury-time, but in general play Wigan created the clearer-cut opportunities in an impressive display that leaves them five points clear of the relegation zone. Frustration was evident in the Arsenal camp at the final whistle, with Wenger failing to shake Martinez's hand while Robin Van Persie squared up to Gary Caldwell. And Wenger insists the game was not played in the right spirit by the visitors. "It is disrespectful to people who p ...
