Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he regrets not being able to pin down the signature of Yaya Toure back in 2003. The Ivorian had a trial with the Gunners while his brother, Kolo Toure, was already at the club, but instead decided to join Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine instead. “It's up at the top. But let's not forget that Yaya Toure had an agreement with us and it's not because we did not want to sign him that he went to Ukraine,” Wenger said: "We had to wait for his passport in Belgium. We have made mistakes [with transfers], but this was not a mistake. “He preferred to go to Metalurh Donetsk because he could go there without a passport." Toure spent two seasons at Metalurh before going on to have spells at Olympiacos, Monaco, and Barcelona before moving to current club Manchester City. The 30-year-old has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Football League Cup and Community Shield while at the Etihad.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has revealed how Kolo Toure convinced Arsene Wenger to sign him - by kicking their millionaire stars! Toure travelled to England from the Ivory Coast where he was playing for ASEC Mimosas 12 years ago for his big trial at Arsenal. And Toure thought the best way to impress was the smash key Gunners like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and ARSENE WENGER! Parlour told talkSPORT: "They rolled the ball into Thierry Henry. Kolo Toure from nowhere smashed him, right from behind, two footed tackle, a terrible tackle. "Seriously could have been a red card in a normal game. Our best player is on the floor rolling around. "Arsene Wenger screams, 'Kolo, what are you doing? Don't tackle, don't tackle!' "Next minute, ball goes into Dennis Bergkamp. Kolo Toure, exactly the same, two-foots Dennis Bergkamp. "We're thinking this is unbelievable. "The next ball comes in and he makes a great tackle, Kolo Toure, but the ball flips up in the air and Arsene Wenger used to stand right in the middle betw ...

Blood Red: James Pearce on the Liverpool FC boss rising above management mind games Plus - defending Kolo Toure and trusting in youth Away from Anfield, the pressure is starting to show. Mild-mannered Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini finally ran out of patience and reacted to the sniping of Jose Mourinho. Pellegrini accused the Chelsea manager of telling lies about City with his comments about Financial Fair Play and their luck with refereeing decisions. The Chilean was also riled by Mourinho criticising the FA's decision not to punish Yaya Toure after the midfielder appeared to kick out at Norwich's Ricky van Wolfswinkel. Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as Chelsea FC manager, returning to the club for a second term in charge, having left the club in 2007Jose Mourinho Responding to Mourinho's bizarre claim that Chelsea were the “little horse” in the title race, Pellegrini said they were “little, but rich”. Over at the Emirates, Arsene Wenger insisted the title was Chelsea's to lose and said ...
'Le Professor' takes a cheeky dig at Mourinho on the eve of Chelsea’s 2007 League Cup final win over Arsenal, in which John Obi Mikel, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor were sent of for their part in an ugly brawl. NOVEMBER 2007 Mourinho: "Unlike Arsenal, we sought success and tried to build it through a concept of the game using English players." The ‘Special one’ points the finger at Wenger and Arsenal’s policy in his book. APRIL 2008 Mourinho: "The English like statistics a lot. Do they know that Arsene Wenger has only 50 per cent of wins in the English league?" Seven months after leaving Chelsea by ‘mutual consent’ the Portuguese manager can’t help himself but to have another swipe at Wenger. NOVEMBER 2010 Wenger: "You never say it doesn’t cross your mind but when you see how it looks on television it is the best demonstration to think: “Never do that again”. "It looks, frankly, horrible. It’s a pity to see that from a big club." Wenger vents his disgust at the now Real Madrid man ...
'We'll get it right against the Gunners' Raheem Sterling is determined to ensure Liverpool bounce back from Sunday's 1-1 draw against West Brom, when they host current league leaders Arsenal at Anfield. The youngster admitted a sense of disappointment pervaded the dressing room after the Reds failed to bolster their Champions League push with three points at the Hawthorns. Daniel Sturridge tapped home the opener after bright movement from Sterling, who played in Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan found his strike partner unmarked at the far post with a sublime assist. However, Victor Anichebe levelled for Pepe Mel's side when he intercepted Kolo Toure's misplaced pass and fired low beyond Simon Mignolet to clinch a point. Sterling insisted the aim between now and Saturday, when Arsene Wenger's pace-setters arrive in L4, is to regroup and ensure concentration levels are maintained against the Gunners. "The whole team is disappointed not to get the three points against West Brom," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "The mana ...
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he may have at last found a suitable replacement for Jamie Carragher's footballing brain in "model professional" Kolo Toure. The Ivory Coast international, who spent seven years at Arsenal until 2009, arrived on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer, and has slotted in well with 11 games in total. Toure's former manager Arsene Wenger rates him one of his most "satisfying signings", but Rodgers is even more impressed with the centre-back's ability to read a game. It is, he claimed, akin to Carragher who retired from football this summer after 17 years manning Liverpool's defence. "[Toure] came in and showed us he's a model professional", Rodgers told a press conference today. "His fitness level is still really good. He's quick, strong and a great reader of the game. He manages the game in a very similar way to what Jamie Carragher did. "So he's come in and been outstanding. He can play in a couple of positions and he's made a great ...

Arsenal and Liverpool fight Premier League rivals for Swedish defender’s signature Young centre-half Milosevic targeted by numerous Premier League clubs… Arsenal, Liverpool and now Fulham are targeting AIK’s 21-year-old Swedish centre-back Aleksander Milosevic, and could bid for the defender when the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Express. The 6 ft. 3″ powerful defender has shone in Swedish domestic football this season and last, and earned his first call-up to the senior Sweden squad earlier on this year. Arsenal are publicly trying to sign a new centre-half, and a move for Milosevic, who wouldn’t demand first-team football immediately, would make perfect sense for Arsene Wenger. Although Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have been impressive for the Gunners this term, the injury prone Thomas Vermaelen is the only current backup option. Liverpool on the other hand have multiple centre-back options, with the likes of Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori an .. ...
Toure fights for brother . Arsenal's Kolo Toure has urged manager Arsene Wenger to sign younger brother Yaya.
Brendan Rodgers believes Manchester City's loss will be Liverpool's gain in 2013-14 as Kolo Toure looks to add a final chapter to his glittering career. At 32, Toure is the oldest recruit since Rodgers took over at Anfield last summer - but having watched the Ivorian perform for City last season, the boss is confident he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level. "I saw him play a lot of games last year," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com. "I saw him play at Aston Villa and in a lot of other games and I thought he was Manchester City's best player." Toure has won three FA Cup's and two league titles since Arsene Wenger brought him into English football 11 years ago - and his CV makes him one of the few credible candidates to fill the hole left by Jamie Carragher. "Losing someone like Jamie Carragher was going to leave a massive hole for us in terms of his experience," added Rodgers. "Kolo's experience is going to be really important for us - but not just that. He's someone with a winning mentalit ...

I been giving a lot of thought about my support for Arsenal. Of late I am even embarrassed to watch their games. This team has been giving me nothing but heartbreak for the past four seasons. I am now convinced that Arsene Wenger is no longer the right man to take us forward. We built stadium, did not buy quality players and now that we have the resources, we still are not competitive. Man U endured financial pressure when they were extending Old Trafford but inflow of trophies never ceased. We lost many good players like Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole, Alex Song, Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Robin Van Persie. The common denominator in all these players is that they all played for Arsenal and after leaving, they went on to do much better in their new clubs. Infact 95% of them went on to win silverware. We get a hiding from a 3rd division team in Bradford City. Swansea fancy their chances against us in a replay. No one fears us anymore ...

Wenger, in training at London Colney, had introduced to the Arsenal First team squad, a young ivorian defender called Kolo Toure, who was on trial with a view of an eventual signing. The idea was that he would start by playing a small sided match, with Wenger watching. Henry took the ball upto Toure and, not expecting the Ivorian to know his tricks, tried one. Toure was taking no chances. His tackle hit Henry like a bullet. 'He took the ball, man, everything', said Henry. The ball soared in the air, went out of play when Arsene Wenger trotted after it, stuck out a leg to control the ball. But Toure was running furiously and as Wenger trapped the ball, hit him as hard as he'd hit Henry. Arsene went head over heels. Then Wenger got up, had a big grin on his face and said - "Yes, I think we can go to war with this one". And Toure joined Arsenal.
1st it was Kolo Toure, followed by Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayo, then Samir Nasri and now rumour of RVP joining Machester City. As Arsene Wenger become d chief scout 4 City? Can't just stop tinking.
Arsene Wenger will be followin Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri to City now! or Why would he want to stay at Arsenal when he could earn loads more somewhere else?! and surely the likes of Clichy, Nasri and Kolo Toure have proven that success can only be found after leaving the Emirates...No hard feelns though
