Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements to provide cover for Olivier Giroud at the Emirates Stadium next season, and is believed to be considering a number of possible options. Eto'o would not cost Arsenal anything, but his wages might prove to be a sticking point, unless the former Chelsea man is prepared to take a significant cut to what he was earning at Stamford Bridge. The 33-year-old has already received lucrative offers from the MLS, but has made clear his desire to remain in the Premier League, and ordered his representatives to sound out Arsenal about the possibility of a potential trans ...

Thierry Henry Only Signed For Arsenal After Bumping Into Arsene Wenger On a Plane In 1999 by Ron Carne December 18th, 2013 Comments 0 Thierry Henry Frenchman would go on to score a club-record 228 goals for the club. Arsenal goalscoring legend Thierry Henry has revealed that he only joined the North London club after bumping into Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger on a flight to Paris 14 years ago, according to reports in the Daily Mirror. The Frenchman has been speaking in a new Arsenal media documentary titled: Arsenal Legends – Thierry Henry, with the now New York Red Bulls front man explaining how he ended up leaving Serie A giants Juventus to move to Highbury back in the summer of 1999. At the time, Henry was playing for the Old Lady of Italian Football, who the striker had signed for from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco for £10.7 million in the January of that year. However, Henry had found it hard to settle at Juve, who at the time were struggling badly for form under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the Ita ...
The former Gunners captain has dismissed the North London side's title chances on account of a perceived "lack of leadership" within Arsene Wenger's ranks Patrick Vieira does not believe that former club Arsenal will win the Premier League this season because they cannot "win games playing badly". The Frenchman, who now coaches Manchester City's Under-21 side, lifted the title three times during his nine-year spell in North London. Arsenal have not won any silverware since Vieira converted the winning penalty in a shootout against Manchester United in the 2005 FA Cup final, though, and the 37-year-old believes the Gunners still lack the ability to win ugly. “When you look at Arsenal, they play fantastic football. But sometimes you need to win games playing badly, and I don't think Arsenal are capable of that at the moment,” the Frenchman told the Daily Mirror. "Maybe there is a lack of leadership - they don't have a Tony Adams, Martin Keown or Sol Campbell. These are players who can be leaders on or o ...
Former Gunner and Chelsea star could make return to Arsenal in January transfer window, but Manchester City may attempt to hijack deal. Arsenal will battle Manchester City in January for the right to sign Lassana Diarra from Lokomotiv Moscow, according to the Daily Mirror. The former Chelsea midfielder has greatly impressed in the Russian side's ranks since moving to the capital in August, and both Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. Diarra also previously played for Arsenal in 2007, but was rarely given a first team opportunity by Wenger, and had more success with Chelsea and Portsmouth. He signed for Real Madrid in 2009 before again moving on. Diarra is tenacious in the tackle, athletic, and a fine passer of the ball, and at 28 he is younger than both Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, while not likely to cost the earth.

ARSENAL TO TEMPT CHICARITO? I think that most neutrals would agree that whilst Nicklas Bendtner rather talks a good game, N-Ben isn't exactly ideal as the replacement striker for a now title-challenging side. The Daily Mail have put two and two together and come up with out-of-favour Javier Hernandez as the solution for Arsene Wenger. It is a move that would make a deal of sense, although whether the Mexican has the required attributes to lead the line on his own would possibly be in doubt. The Mail claim that the Gunners 'have compiled an extensive dossier on the Mexico striker', presumably made up of several videos of that ridiculous back-header against Stoke a couple of years ago. We'd say that it's unlikely United would want to sell, but stranger things have happened. UNITED WANT £35MILLION KHEDIRA Manchester United are the latest club to be talked of in Sami Khedira terms, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the club sent Phil Neville on a scouting mission to Madrid. Strength of Olivier Giroud a real positive for Arsenal It is no longer about finding a replacement for Olivier Giroud. If Arsenal do go shopping in January, it is more likely it will be for back-up or cover. Giroud has gone from strength to strength this season and, despite defeat to Borussia Dortmund, he was Arsenal's star turn. The Frenchman is big, strong and seemed to enjoy bullying the German defence in a similar way he gave Norwich's back four a torrid time last Saturday. As good as Arsenal's goals were against Norwich, Giroud was my choice as man of the match. He held the ball up, provided flick-ons and delivered a classic centre-forward's performance. Giroud scored against Dortmund after a typical piece of strength and determination. Similarly, the way he glided past Mats Hummels in the first half which resulted in the Dortmund defender clearing off the line was equally impressive. Arsenal remain interested in another centre-forward. I've written in the Daily Mirror that they are keen on Juventus ...
Arsenal boss (Arsene Wenger) to make move for former star as he eyes up move. * * * Arsenal could nail down the services of former hero Alex Song, as he looks for a way out of Barcelona this January. Alex Song is considering quitting Barcelona in the next transfer window over a lack of first-team opportunities, according to Spanish sports daily AS. The midfielder left Arsenal only last summer for Catalunya but has struggled to break into the team with his conversion to centre-back abandoned as a failure and Barca already boasting a wealth of options in the centre of the park. Song has started just one game of a possible seven in 2013-14 – the 1-0 win over Malaga – and that was solely down to Sergio Busquets’ absence through injury. (Daily Mirror) The man was loved when he was there and a move back would be a great idea by the Arsenal board.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has held talks with Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain and his father and agent Jorge in Paris, according to a report in the Daily Mirror. Argentina international Higuain is free to leave the Spanish capital this summer, and has even talked up the idea of signing for the Gunners. "Arsenal? They would suit me," admitted Higuain. "I'm still young and I have goals." Juventus are the Gunners' clear rivals for the 25 year-old's signature, and Jorge Higuain believes his son and client will make a decision between the two after discussions with each club. "Madrid will want to sell. Juventus or Arsenal? I guess he has spoken with them," confirmed Higuain senior. "The clubs first have to talk to Madrid and in direct negotiation. Higuain currently has three years left on his contract." Gonzalo Higuain found himself sharing the centre forward role at Real Madrid with Karim Benzema, but despite inconsistent selection from the start of games, he still managed to score 18 goals in his 41 app ...
