When Thompson was asked who is most feared opponent was, he responded with "(Palo Verde's) Ben Kern was the guy I wanted to beat every time, but it didn't always come out that way. He was excellent." BRADY CASTLE - SUNROCK CASTLE I received E-Mail that said: This may be a bit small for a castle, but it seems to fit your other criteria. There was an article in our local newspaper, the Arizona Daily Star, 8/5/99. You have an entry under Arizona, "Unknown Castle". I can shed a little light on it, but not much. I know it is privately owned and not open to the public. It sits on top of a large hill, all of which is also privately owned, so it is not easy to get close to it. A good place to see it, especially with binoculars, is the parking lot at Colossal Cave, 2-3 miles to the north. You can also see it from I-10, but it's more like 5-6 miles from there. Later, I received E-Mail that said: In 1973-74 I was married to an electrician who worked on this castle. One Halloween when it was just a shell we drove out to the jobsite and ran through the rooms kinda fun & spooky. What I remember the owner used to entertain Hollywood people like Robert Goulet & Eddy? He had a moat around it with a draw bridge. Last t ...

“Everything should be on the table, and that includes examining our assault-weapons laws...” 1 That’s what Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick said in her recent Column in the Arizona Daily Star. Like dominoes, NRA “A” rated politicians are falling for President Obama's gun control scheme one after another. Ann Kirkpatrick is just the latest. Obama’s anti-gun task force is expected to announce what gun control measures they’re going to force on the American people next week. To make matters worse, Kirkpatrick has promised to help him sell it! Kirkpatrick's spokesperson promised she will “take those recommendations back to Arizona to hear directly from mayors, sheriffs and town leaders across District 1.” 2 That's right, Congresswoman Kirkpatrick plans to sell Obama's anti-gun scheme to elitist anti-gun local politicians, but not to gun owners or the people of Arizona. You and I don’t have to wait until next week to know what Ann Kirkpatrick, Barack Obama and Joe Bieden want. They already bel ...
More than a few years ago there was a stroll down memory lane in the Arizona Daily Star about an accident that occurred in 1959 involving a Greyhound Buss and a cattle truck. I saw the aftermath of that accident. WE (my family) were in transit from Ft. Gordon, Georgia to Washington State to visit maternal family at Christmas time. The couple of years ago that I'm talking about -- I called up the Arizona Daily Star to talk to a columnist, Bonnie Henry, to tell her about that event and also to tell her about some very serious co-inky-dinkies that could possibly be associated with that event. Some (if true . . . "co-inky-dinkies") very serious crimes. She hung up on me. I tried again a couple days later and she hung up on me again. The beautiful journalism of this area is NOT so fond of domestic tranquility when it might pull the mask off the old, lo'a'n ranger'. It was at about this time that she decided to 'down-size' in her accommodations. Here is a general gist of my allegations: My mother's f ...

Growing up, many kids are told to find a police officer if they need help. It's a lesson Demarco Alonzo Thomas took to heart. Thomas was an alleged drug courier who said he misplaced $20,000 in drug money and wanted authorities to write him an excuse note so a Tucson, Ariz., cartel wouldn't kill him, the Associated Press reported. In November, when Thomas, 30, was traveling through Tucson International Airport from North Carolina when he reported misplacing the money, according to a search warrant requested by the Tucson Airport Authority Police Department. Fearing for his life, he called police to ask if an officer could write a note to the local cartel explaining that he lost $20,000 in drug money; he thought it might smooth things over if he could show cartel members a phony receipt from the local police stating they had seized the money, the Arizona Daily Star reported. But when police searched his belongings, they found $17,000 in a pair of pants and another $3,000 in his wallet, Geobeats reported. T ...

A Letter Bill Maki send to the Arizona Daily Star, How many more? Today a disturbed young man with family troubles shot his mother and many of her kindergarten students. 27 dead in all shot with semi-automatic weapons. We've seen this before. A horrendous mass shooting. The nation grieves. Gun sales spike. Politicians talk. The media shows the emotion. Eventually other news wins out. The nation forgets. And nothing is done. How many more? Like other violence in the media, we are getting used to it. Each new incident becomes just "another shooting." It seems to me that, as a nation, we have entered into a social contract. In return for "second amendment rights", readily available guns and ammunition, retail sales of military grade assault weapons, and the political power of the gun lobby, we tolerate mass shootings. Yesterday Oregon, today Connecticut. Tomorrow ...? Here is my plea. Mr.President, Congressman Barber, Senator Flake: you own these murders. Don't blame the deranged shooter for this. Place the ...

Tucson...John Dillinger was captures here in the 1930's...Just a bit of history —Headline from the Arizona Daily Star, January 26, 1934 While renting a house in Tucson, John Herbert Dillinger and his gang were arrested by Tucson Police Officers on January 25, 1934. The gang's first court appearance was at 9:30 the next morning before Pima County Justice of the Peace Charles V. Budlong. Standing far left is TPD Chief C. A. "Gus" Wollard. Seated from left, gang members Russell Clark, "Fat Charles" Makley, "Handsome Harry" Pierpont, Dillinger, Opal Long (Clark's "companion"), and Mary "Shorty" Kinder (Pierpont's girlfriend). Dillinger was gunned down in front of Chicago's Biograph Movie Theatre by three FBI Agents six months later on July 22, 1934. Tucson Police Department officers showed off the large number of weapons confiscated by TPD officers when the Dillinger gang was arrested.

Republitards... Enjoy! "Obama kept his promises to gun owners but not to gun control advocates, who have been frustrated by the White House’s lack of interest. The president signed bills allowing guns in national parks and on Amtrak. He has not pushed for the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban — and Attorney General Eric Holder was reportedly chastised for suggesting he would. Nor has he moved towards closing the gun-show loophole. In his remarks after the 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona, Obama barely mentioned gun control, and it did not come up in his State of the Union weeks later. That March, Obama wrote an Arizona Daily Star op-ed calling for better background checks. But the tragedy did not inspire serious gun-control initiatives." This is a fact. Your welcome. Stop complaining.
Sorry...Arizona Daily Star..still liked that it was a story from KENOSHA..
Finally! Charles Krauthammer's op ed piece in today's Arizona Daily Star embraces amnesty for undocumented immigrants paired with border security. The anti-immigration nativism driven by rightwing talk show hosts has been wrong but dominant for far too long in Republican party. I am totally in favor of amnesty and security. We need these people and it is unjust to treat them as quasi-criminals simply because our politicians lack the integrity to address this matter legislatively. And the Hannitys, Ingrams, Levins, and Savages should shut up or take their nativist fear-mongering into some lunatic fringe group. It doesn't belong in the party of Lincoln. Well done Charles Krauthammer!

Phoenix newspaper puts high school football on the front page before the Cardinals, Amy Van Dyken said on her Fox Sports show with Rob Dibble. LOL. I know the Cardinals have less support in Arizona than the Cowboys and probably Packers, but she's wrong about that. The Arizona Republic has wasted more newsprint on the Cardinals, thinking it would sell newspapers, than on any other subject I know. Now when I was sports editor of the Arizona Daily Star, we rarely put the Cardinals on the front page. There definitely was more interest in high school football, collectively, than the Cardinals. Interest in the NFL as a whole was high, much higher than prep football. But the Cardinals might as well be playing in Las Vegas. Few care about the Cardinals in Tucson.

From my brother in Tucson, AZ: Is the Tucson Tea Party concerned about the FBI's harassment of Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne? As reported yesterday on Tucson's TV Ch. 9, the FBI has been intensively investigating Horne because of a possible hit-and-run involving an unoccupied car in a parking garage. This is not a Federal matter, and the maximum penalty for it is a $500 fine. FBI agents have been talking to his employees and telling them he is a liar and has no credibility. Why is the FBI resources involved at all, much less so heavily? The only apparent motive for this Federal harassment is Tom Horne's statements (reported in The Arizona Daily Star on July 8, 2011) that "illegal aliens are voting here". He pointed out that "in one year there were about 200 incidents" of non-citizens being summoned to jury duty from the voter registration rolls. And since only a small percentage of those registered to vote are called for jury duty, and they are picked at random, it is a mathematical certainty t ...

What's the damage? The Arizona Daily Star has over 364,000 readers for its Sunday edition, which is about a third of the population of Pima County being falsely assured about "Elections Security".

Being the owner of a business, I am told to stay out of politics. Isn't the Arizona Daily Star a business? I find it laughable that the same people telling me to keep my nose out of politics buy the Arizona Daily Star and treat it as if it were their Bible. If not for the work of Ted Vogt, David Gowen and Frank Antenori, the City of Tucson wouldn't allow any of my employees to work in Tucson. The City of Tucson bullied me for opposing their tax on alarm owners and refused to let any of my employees work in Tucson. These Legislatures passed a law outlawing every City in Arizona from climbing in bed with Corporate America and attacking local alarm companies. If I wasn't involved in politics, the City of Tucson would have shut me down. I would be put out of business by the Mayor and Council. Where was the Red Star on reporting that story?

I find it interesting how our so called local newspaper takes part in munipulating our local elections. Instead of reporting the news, the Star in beds themselves with corrupt candidates and munipulates stories to deceive the public. The Arizona Daily Star even has a lie printed right on the front of their building. Instead of reporting the news, the Star has become nothing more than propoganda and distortion of the truth. It is you they are attacking, your City, your State, your jobs and your tax dollars.
