Here is a question, Are there deserts in Korea? and the answer is YES. Gigantic sand dunes can be seen across the world, from the Sahara Desert of northern Africa to the Arabian Desert of southwestern Asia. On the Korean Peninsula, too, it is also possible to see exotic sand dunes along the coast. According to the Ministry of Environment, there are 133 coastal dunes along the eastern, western and southern shores of the Korean Peninsula, as well as on Jeju Island. More info, visit this link. Jordan and Kaser were able to observe, first hand, the new field research that was taking place in Dawadmi where Acheulean sites were being investigated. They visited the site with Prof. Michael D. The Palaeodeserts team received original funding from The Leakey Foundation for this project.
World War I imposed many changes on the world. Three great empires were dismantled. The German Empire was reduced to one nation on which was imposed a "democratic" regime called the "Weimar Republic". The Austro-Hungarian Empire was dismantled and each nation under the empire was separated and granted independence (e.g. Hungary, etc.). A democratic regime was imposed on Austria. The Ottoman Empire was dismantled. In this case, the victors divided the spoils. England took control of Mesopotamia and the Arabian Desert as well as Egypt. These areas were arbitrarily subdivided into new nations on which monarchical governments were imposed. The English also controlled the Palestinian Mandate which includes what is today the West Bank and Israel. France was given Syria and Lebanon as well as it colonies in Northern Africa. A new kingdom was established in the Arabian desert which included the Moslem cities of Mecca and Medina. The royal family chosen by the English is the Saud family, which was hated then and r ...
Gas exploration activity in the south east region of the Arabian desert uncovered a skeletal remains of a human of phenomenal size. This region of the Arabian Desert is called the Empty Quarter , or in Arabic, ‘Rab-Ul-Khalee’. The discovery was made by the Aramco Exploration team. As Allah states in the Quran that He had created people of phenomenal size the like of which He has not created since. These were the people of Aad where Prophet HUD was sent. They were very tall, big, and very powerful, such that they could put their arms around a tree trunk and uproot it. Later these people, who were given all the power, turned against Allah and the Prophet and transgressed beyond all boundaries set by Allah. As a result they were destroyed. Ulema’s of Saudi Arabia believe these to be the remains of the people of Aad. Saudi Military has secured the whole area and no one is allowed to enter except the ARAMCO personnel. See the attachment and note the size of the two men standing in the picture in comparis ...
Watching 2nd part of Ben Fogle and James Cracknell crossing the Arabian Desert with help of camels, can't believe I ran 155 miles in 5 days!
I recommend watching Ben Fogle and James Cracknell's BBC 2 programme tonight, 9 p.m. trekking through the Arabian Desert 'The Empty Quarter'. I watched the first one last evening, both of them summing up how their friendship has changed since James' had his horrendous accident.
Been watching Ben Fogle & James Cracknell as they trek across the Arabian Desert...amazing to think 2 years ago James suffered horrific head injuries which has left him brain damaged, neither wonder he was getting a tad stroppy with a camel that didn't want to get up off the sand, no water, immense heat and not a clue where he was going! Well done to both guys for keeping themselves going :-)
It's time as Ben Fogle is on BBC2 with James Cracknell hit the sands of the Arabian Desert. Thinking back to my Sahara training, amazing how in such a short time I'm already forgetting the tough parts just would love to get back there again. This time last year I was buying a whole years worth of tickets for conferences / talks / conventions and festivals for outdoor pursuit inspirations. Didn't quite work out the way I planned, but might try the same again for 2014
On BBC Two James Cracknell & Ben Fogle alone in the desert with an entire BBC camera crew. "Ben and James versus the Arabian Desert"
Don't miss Ben Fogle and James Cracknell on BBC 2 tonight at 9.15pm. It's the first part of their 'Ben & James Vs the Arabian Desert'. It's a great programme where you'll gain a taste of Oman!
James Cracknel and Ben Fogle take on the Arabian Desert.
Ibn Battuta Ibn Battuta was born in a rich family in Tangier, Morocco. His plan was to be a judge. After his studying, Ibn Battuta decided to make pilgrimage to Makkah for Hajj. Makkah was 3000 miles away and the journey would take more then a year. Therefore, Ibn Battuta left on June 14, 1325 CE. Fascinated by the sights he saw, Ibn Battuta decided to devote his life to traveling. First, he made two rules for himself: • Only to visit the Muslim world. • Never to travel any road a second time. He began first by exploring the lands of the Middle East. Then he sailed down the Red Sea to Makkah. He crossed the huge Arabian Desert and traveled to what are now Iraq and Iran. In 1330 CE, he set of again, down the Red Sea to Aden and then along the coast of East Africa to present day Tanzania. Then in 1332 CE, Ibn Battuta decided to go to India. He was welcomed by the Sultan of Delhi and given the job of a judge. He stayed in India for 8 years and then left for China. He survived wars, shipwrecks, and rebell ...

Marsa Alam is a town in south-eastern Egypt, located on the western shore of the Red Sea. It is currently seeing fast increasing popularity as a tourist destination and development following the opening of Marsa Alam International Airport in 2001. Marsa Alam is situated near the Tropic of Cancer where the Arabian Desert meets the Red Sea, and it has the appearance of a tropical paradise with its palm trees, mangroves and sea coasts fringed with barrier coral reefs. It has already gained a strong reputation amongst scuba divers due to its numerous and unspoilt diving sites both along the coast and offshore. Sightings of spinner dolphins, dugongs and hammerhead sharks are a frequent occurrence for those who venture into its waters. Among the most famous beaches around Marsa Alam is the Abu Dabab beach. In Abu Dabab, turtles are a common sight and it is nearly guaranteed that when diving, one will see at least one turtle. For tourists who seek to see something less typical, there is marine wildlife like se . ...

Fascinating Facts About Dubai * The word Dubai may have evolved from the word Daba, which means to creep, referring to the process by which the Dubai Creek slowly flows inland. Another interesting version is, the poet Ahmad Mohammad Obaid claims that Dubai got its name from the same word, Daba, which also refers to a swarm of locusts. * Dubai had a flourishing pearl business, which collapsed with the advent of the First World War and the Great Depression. * Dubai is a part of the Arabian Desert, but is topographically different from it. It is dotted with sandy deserts, where wild grasses and palm trees grow. To the east of the city lie the sabkha, coastal plains covered with salt, which see an abundant growth of desert hyacinths. * Every year, in spring and fall, over 300 bird species migrate through Dubai. * Dubai experiences extremely arid and hot climates, with the mercury shooting as high as 104oF. Average precipitation is not more than 140 mm annually. Summers are prone to severe sandstorms, locally ...
Good-bye Dubai? Bombing Iran’s Nuclear Facilities would leave the Entire Gulf States Region virtually Uninhabitable “In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.”― Friedrich Nietzsche Think “Fukushima x 10”: Bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities would leave the entire Gulf State region virtually uninhabitable. Every Spring and Summer, during a period of low pressure over the Persian Gulf, powerful winds known as the “shamals and sharqi,” sweep down from the north and north east into Saudi Arabia, whipping up ever more grains of sand as they head south and south west across the Arabian Desert. Frequently, these sandstorms become gargantuan in size – hundreds of meters high and kilometers wide and in length of dense roiling particulate, choking the lungs of those exposed, blocking out the sun completely and, by the time they are over, burying whole towns, sometimes even large cities like Riyadh, in a meter deep or more of sand. The wind speeds ...

Israel had been restored and the Threefold National system spread from Assyria in the North from the Mountains of the Medes or Kurds to the Euphrates and Israel incorporated the lands of Syria and Lebanon, through the lands of Jordan, Israel, Gaza, Edom and Moab, down to the Gulf of Aqaba and to the River of Egypt which had been pushed south to close the tongue of the Red Sea as prophesied. Egypt was incorporated into the tri-nation system based on its own domestic road and transportation system as prophesied. Israel was run by a joint government of the tribal groups from the tribes that occupied the lands from the Euphrates to the River of Egypt, and from the Mediterranean to the Arabian Desert. All religious systems in the Middle East had been eradicated and the Churches of God were set up and governed from Jerusalem. They were governed by a supreme council of the nations that met each year between the 1st of Tishri and the 22nd of Tishri, the Seventh Month. Each nation that did not keep the Feasts of . ...

Seven Wonder's in Modern Era Great Wall of China This newly elected world wonder was built along China's northern border over many centuries to keep out invading Mongol tribes. Constructed between the fifth century B.C. and the 16th century, the Great Wall is the world's longest human-made structure, stretching some 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers). The best known section was built around 200 B.C. by the firstemperor of China, Qin Shi Huang Di. Petra, Jordan Perched on the edge of the Arabian Desert, Petra was the capital of the Nabataean kingdom of King Aretas IV (9 B.C. to A.D. 40). Petra is famous for its many stone structures such as a 138-foot-tall (42-meter-tall) temple carved with classical facades into rose-colored rock. The ancient city also included tunnels, water chambers, and an amphitheater, which held 4,000 people. The desert site wasn't known to the West until Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt came across it in 1812. Christ the Redeemer The 105-foot-tall (38-meter-tall) 'Christ the Rede ...

Egypt is a country in north-eastern Africa. It stretches across the Sinai Peninsula, where it borders Israel and the rest of the Middle East. The remainder of the eastern border is made up by the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea forms Egypt's northern coast. Two large African countries form Egypt's other borders—Sudan to the south, and Libya to the west. Egypt covers an area of 997,739 square kilometres and is almost square-shaped. In the south of the country, the distance from the Libyan border to the Red Sea is more than 1,200 kilometres. Egypt has a very long history, and one of the world's earliest and greatest civilizations developed there. Today, many people visit the country to see the pyramids, temples and other monuments of Ancient Egypt. DESERT COUNTRY More than nine tenths of the country is made up of desert areas, where very little rain falls and almost nothing grows. The Libyan Desert to the west, Arabian Desert to the east and Nubian Desert to the south are all parts of the world's large ...
Read Exodus 14:21 Who hasn’t heard of the miracle at the Red Sea! But did you realize that God used a wind storm to part the sea, and deliver his people? In my opinion, the real miracle in this story is that a wind that strong, strong enough to part a sea, didn’t scatter the children of Israel all across the Arabian Desert! If you find yourself in need of a miracle, don’t be surprised if God sends a storm to deliver you. In June of 2004 I went through a stretch of being extremely exhausted. Long story short, I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia . . . in June! I spent the night in the hospital and came out feeling like a new man. It seems God knew that weathering the “storm” hooked to an IV was the only way I was going to get the rest I desperately needed. Finances get shaky, thieves break in, relationships get rocky, health temporarily fades . . . storms will come . . . but they won’t destroy you! Trials come to make us strong, yet no one expects a storm in the midst of their trial ...
Continent: ASIA Asia Asia is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the East by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by the Indian Ocean, and to the West by Europe and the Mediterranean. A continent of contrastsand extremes, the enormous diversity of Asia’s physical andcultural landscape is unparalleled in the world. Although geographers have clubbed its constituent nations and regions as part of one large continent, Asia defiesall notions of homogeneity. Asia includes some of the world’s richest and developed economieslike Japan and Korea but is also home to some of the world’s poorest nations. Asia has the highest point on Earth, the Mount Everest in the Himalayas, as well as the lowest place on land, the Dead Sea. Asia also experiences the wildest extremes of weather and climate. While the continent boasts of the wettestplace on Earth in the Indian state of Meghalaya, certain areas in the Arabian Desert may go without rainfall for years together. Asia also has the widest variety of plant and anim ...
I need a rental for 3 20 something boys (firefighters) out around Brown's Ferry or similar area. They want to be way out in the country where 4 wheelers are usable. They are from Ohio and Pawleys is way too "city" for them. Their words, not mine. Sandy Island would be perfect for them if it was ok to drive your truck up and down the hills. Somehow I gathered western Ohio is like crossing Andrews with the Arabian Desert but with miles of fields in every direction. Kathy, Liz suggested you might know someone out around Brown's Ferry and surrounding areas needing a renter.

Benefits of Moderate Sun Exposure Dr. Robert S. Stern, chair of the Department of Dermatology at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center , calls them “solar-phobes”: people so concerned about getting skin cancer that they stay inside or cover every bit of skin. “They cover up like they were going out into the Arabian Desert ,” he says. The marketing of ultrablocking sunscreens and special sun-protective clothing plays into these fears. There’s no getting around the fact that sunlight is *** your skin. Age gets blamed for wrinkles and rough, dry skin. But the real culprit is a combination of age and sun that dermatologists call photoaging. The short UVB wavelengths that cause sunburn can also damage DNA and suppress the skin’s immune system. The longer, more penetrating UVA wavelengths may create highly reactive oxygen molecules capable of damaging skin cell membranes and the DNA inside. The relationship between sun exposure and skin cancer risk isn’t as straightforward as ...

According to the most credible reports, the repulsive film which was written, produced, and directed by Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, an Egyptian-American Coptic Christian who hates Muslims. Nakoula is a felon convicted in California on bank fraud charges, for which he received a suspended 21-month sentence and was fined $790,000. According to press reports the low budget movie was filmed last year and starred sixty actors who recently released a statement stating that they were never told that the movie was about the prophet Muhammad (In fact, one of the actors, Lily Dionne, has sued the film producer for grossly misleading him because the actors had been told they were making a film on "an historical Arabian Desert adventure."). The actors also maintained that most of the offensive language was later dubbed over their images and the 79 cast and crew members have since released a statement claiming they were taken advantage of. The film, screened last June in a near-empty Hollywood theater, was a flop that b ...
Melted my face. – Alien Chase on Arabian Desert by Al Di Meola, from
Though no evidence confirms it, Jewish tradition holds that Samuel wrote Ruth, probably in the early days of David’s reign. The exact date of its writing is difficult to determine, but the fact that the story of Ruth originally appeared at the end of the book of Judges as a sort of appendix suggests it comes from the same era. Scholars estimate between 1011 and 931 B.C. Ruth became a separate book in A.D. 450. The meaning of Ruth’s Moabite name is not known, though some think it is related to the verb ra’ah, “to associate with,” and thus means “friend” or “friendship.” Ruth came from Moab; her people had descended from Lot. Located on a high, fertile tableland between the river Arnon and the brook Zered, bordered by the Dead Sea on the west and the Arabian Desert on the east, Moab sat about 3000 feet above the Mediterranean and 4300 feet above the Dead Sea. Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law, was a Jew from Bethlehem. Ancient Palestine boasted two Bethlehems; Naomi lived in the Bethlehem in J ...
Foreign policy News paper 21/04/2012: The late Princeton scholar Philip K. Hitti called Greater Syria -- the historical antecedent of the modern republic -- "the largest small country on the map, microscopic in size but cosmic in influence," encompassing in its geography, at the confluence of Europe, Asia, and Africa, "the history of the civilized world in a miniature form." This is not an exaggeration, and because it is not, the current unrest in Syria is far more important than unrest we have seen anywhere in the Middle East. "Syria" was the 19th-century Ottoman-era term for a region that stretched from the Taurus Mountains of Turkey in the north to the Arabian Desert in the south, and from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to Mesopotamia in the east. Present-day Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, western Iraq, and southern Turkey were all included in this vast area. In other words, the concept of "Syria" was not linked to any specific national sentiment. The collapse of the Ottoman Empire at the end of Wo ...
