Sabathia, Rivera get in work for Yanks; CC reports no elbow issues: CC Sabathia wasn't surprised his first pitch was well inside off the plate. The important thing was the New York Yankees' ace felt good. Sabathia threw off a mound on Saturday for the first time since arthroscopic surgery Oct. 25 to remove a bone spur from his left elbow. The left-hander made 29 pitches during Saturday's session, which was watched by several team officials including pitching coach Larry Rothschild and spring training instructor Billy Connors. "No problems," Sabathia said. "Probably didn't throw a strike, but that's normal for my first bullpen. I got a little nervous when I first got up there. Hadn't been up there. Didn't know how I was going to feel, but I immediately felt good and I felt comfortable." Sabathia was part of a scheduled bullpen group that included two of the pitching staff's elder statesmen: 43-year-old Mariano Rivera and 40-year-old Andy Pettitte. As Sabathia and Pettitte walked toward the main field to lo ...

When the Yankees won their third successive World Series and fourth in five years in 2000, Torre, their manager, was hailed as an automatic entrant to the Hall of Fame. Now, however, it develops that the Yankees’ 2000 team was loaded with players who used performance-enhancing drugs before, during or after that season. Between the Mitchell report and unsealed affidavits filed by law enforcement officials, the count has reached 10, including Clemens, Denny Neagle and Jason Grimsley. Others named included Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Mike Stanton and David Justice, but the use for which they are cited occurred after the 2000 World Series. They are just as bad as Lance Armstrong

NEW YORK -- As the Yankees' high command reports to the office for the first time in 2013, they'll do so knowing that they have entered the home stretch for assembling a competitive roster. Under general manager Brian Cashman's direction, the Yankees' roster has tilted toward older players this winter. Barring a major trade, the months of January and February will be important for the club to identify and pursue complementary talent. "I think patience is a virtue, and it's something we've learned can be used effectively," Cashman said recently. "It's a harder road to walk, but sometimes it's not the worst road to walk. Sometimes you've got to wait for the right time and the right place to strike." Other than signing Kevin Youkilis to a one-year, $12 million contract, the Yankees have spent most of the offseason retaining their own veterans; pitchers Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera all secured new agreements, as did outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. Of that group, Youkilis (34 by Opening Day) is th ...

You deserve this for taking Andy Pettitte away from me for 3 years.
Yes, Kevin Youkilis is now a Yankee. But he has joined a rather old team that may be making its last hurrah in 2013. The Yankees offseason has been highlighted by the signings of 43-year-old Mariano Rivera, 40-year-old Andy Pettitte, 39-year-old Ichiro Suzuki, Hiroki Kuroda (38 on Opening Day) and Youkilis (34 on Opening Day) to one-year deals. That's a lot of old-timers on one team. In fact, the Yankees may have the oldest roster in baseball. Right now, it appears that the Yankees are playing for 2013 alone. They appear to have have no long-term plan at the moment, yet they really need one. As of now, they largely have nothing that will help them contend in 2014. It’s still early in the offseason, so it will be interesting to see if the Yankees do anything that helps them contend beyond next season. Ownership seems very determined to stay below the $189 million luxury-tax threshold.
The Nationals made it official on Friday, signing free-agent right-hander Dan Haren to a one-year, $13 million contract.
I'm hearing GMDM made this trade only after Cashman laughed him out of the room when he proposed Myers for Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera.
It only seems like the Yankees have missed out on every free agent, but technically they have signed three - Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and Hiroki Kuroda. Two of them were never in any danger of leaving and the other one has loved his time here which didn't help. Beyond them, though, it's been a...

Hall of Fame thought of the day: Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Palmeiro are some of the greatest players of all time and all deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, but the Baseball Writers of America are back again to not vote for deserving players who used or allegedly used steroids/PEDs. Why do they feel they are the guardians of the game when the game clearly does not mind having these players in the league. Case in point, A-Rod, Andy Pettitte, and Ryan Braun have all tested positive for steroids/PEDs, but not one of them has ever been suspended and all of them continue to play in the league. Not to mention, Melky Cabrera just served a 50-game suspension for PEDs and received a significant pay raise from his 2012 contract. The bottom line is that the Baseball Writers need to remember that is it not their responsibility, their job or their right to keep the HOF “pure” as they see it. The HOF is the story of the game as it was played...not the story as they see it.

Latest news on my Yankees. With dependable Hiroki Kuroda returning for the 2013 season, it appears the Yankees’ rotation has a solid chance to look exactly like it did last season. According to a Yankees’ source, Kuroda and the club have agreed to a one-year deal for a base salary of $15 million and $500,000 worth of incentives. The deal is a win for each side. The Yankees aren’t offering free agents more than one year, and Kuroda, 38 in February, is taking it one year at a time despite being able to command a multi-year contract after going 16-11 with a 3.32 ERA in 33 starts in his first year in the muscular American League. “I am very happy and excited to re-sign with the Yankees,” Kuroda said. “I am very grateful for all of the interest and all of the offers that I received from the various teams that courted me. It was a tough decision for me to make, but at the end of the day, I wanted to try to win a championship with the teammates that I went to battle with last season.” Because the Y ...

The New York Yankees have excercised the 2013 contract options for Robinson Cano ($15 million), Curtis Granderson ($15 million) and David Aardsma ($500,000 thousand)...but the Yankees still have big-time free agent decisions to make, with players such as Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Nick Swisher, Ichiro Suzuki, Russell Martin, Hiroki Kuroda, Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez...and gotta see what Rafael Soriano will do with the club option or buyout...so still lots to look at for the Yankees organization...NYY
New York Yankees - "No surprises here, but the Players Association has announced its full list of 137 players who filed for free agency this morning. They become eligible to negotiate with any team at 12:01 am ET on Saturday. For now, there is an exclusive negotiating window with each free agent’s former team. These are the 12 Yankees who filed. Eric Chavez, Pedro Feliciano, Freddy Garcia, Raul Ibanez, Andruw Jones, Hiroki Kuroda, Derek Lowe, Russell Martin, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Ichiro Suzuki, Nick Swisher."
One thing I never understood: Melky Cabrera got killed for taking PEDs, while Andy Pettitte is still made out to be some sort of hero.

Question for NY Yankee Fans: As far as I can see, the Yankees have 11 Free Agents... Nick Swisher; Ichiro Suzuki; Russell Martin; Raul Ibanez; Hiroki Kuroda; Mariano Rivera; Andy Pettitte; Derek Lowe; Eric Chavez; Andruw Jones and Freddy Garcia. The team has two Club options... Cano and Granderson (already say they will exercise option w/ Granderson) and Rafael Soriano has a player option. Who should they go after and make an offer and who should they let walk???
Celebrating A Great 2012 Season – Yankees Lose ALCS by EJ FAGAN on OCTOBER 18, 2012 The New York Yankees will not advance to the 2012 World Series. While this *** I think we should celebrate what the Yankees did this season. The 2012 New York Yankees overcame a ton of adversity just to get as far as they did. According to Jeff Zimmerman over at Fangraphs, the New York Yankees lost the most player-days to the disabled list in the American League in 2012. Michael Pineda, Brett Gardner, Mariano Rivera and Pedro Feliciano all missed essentially the entire season. Austin Romine’s spring training back injury sidelined him for most of the year, forcing the Yankees to trade a valuable arm for Chris Stewart. Alex Rodriguez, Joba Chamberlain and Andy Pettitte spend considerable amounts of time on the disabled list. Even CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and David Robertson missed time. But unlike the 2nd and 3rd most injured American League teams – the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays – the Yankees didn’t ...
Barry Zito's logic-defying career postseason ERA is 3.06. Way more IPs, sure, but Andy Pettitte's is 3.81. Roger Clemens' is 3.75.
My Yankees off season wish list includes - David Wright, AJ Pierzynski, Kyle Lohse, Andy Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda and Mo Rivera. Stocking stuffers can be Shields, E Santana and McCarthy.
Among a large group of free agents who are unsigned for next season, Andy Pettitte hopes to make a decision quickly as if he will retire or play again.
The Yankees lost. I will not be watching the World Series this year. I couldn't believe how bad the Yankees sucked! Andy Pettitte looked like he was thinking "I came out of retirement for this"?l Anyway, Cashman, the Steinbrenners and Joe Girardi all suck for the way they handled the lineup for this series. I don't know who half of these jerks were. Oh well, I dont care about next year. Also those announcers sucked also. They were so pro-Detroit I wanted to hurl. I guess Detroit really needs something to keep them going, God knows the whole city has gone to *** in a handbasket. I never liked Alex Rodriguez, over-rated, over-paid and just over-confident. Maybe if they get rid of him I will watch some games next year. Also, they had NO pitching. Derek Jeter will be having surgery on Mickey Mantle's birthday. He's the only one worth a dam.
ALLDATAdiy
The Yankees and I have had a love/hate relationship this season. I've loved watching them play, but hated the way they were playing since August. Season's over, can't harp on the defeat (putting it lightly, we were trounced)...Important thing in the off-season is that Nick Swisher should never EVER wear a Yankee uniform again. And while we're at it, re-sign Andy Pettitte and Hiroki Kuroda right now. That is all.
My lineup to beat the Tigers the next 4 games. Ichiro Suzuki LF, Robinson Cano 2B, Mickey Mantle CF, Roger Maris RF, Elston Howard C, Yogi Berra DH, Bill Skowron 1B, Alex Rodriguez SS, Clete Boyer 3B. We start Whitey Ford in game 4, CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, and bring back Whitey for game 7. The Tigers get swept, no? I think so. Bring back the guys who were deadly in post season.
Where is Ivan Nova? Why not use Andy Pettitte? Come on Girardi, take your head out of your ***
Yankee starting pitchers to sue hitters for non-support. After yet another sterling pitching effort from the Yanks, the pitchers have revolted against the batting lineup. "I mean, come on," said Andy Pettitte." I came out of retirement and recovered from a broken foot to try to win another title, and this is how the batters repay me?" CC Sabathia also expressed his displeasure, "I wish I could hit so these clowns could see how a professional conducts himself." A third plaintiff, Hiroki Kuroda said to a translator, "I could have stayed in LA and recieved the same non-support I've gotten here The Little League champs from my country can hit better." Asked what they're looking for by filing the suit, Pettitte said, "We want to combine the salaries of ARod, Cano, Swisher, and Granderson to buy some players with heart and spirit that won't shrink in the moment." Yankees manager Joe Girardi had no comment on the pending lawsuit but seemed to agree with his pitchers' sentiments.
Lifelong Red Sox fan Stephen King could not have scripted a more horrific ALCS Game 1 script for the New York Yankees. It was the ultimate emotional rollercoaster. The Yankees got a solid performance from 40-year-old Andy Pettitte. It wasn't the type of dominant outing C.C. Sabathia provided on Frid...
Heartbreaking truthful sports writing here. So sad. "The Yankees' Core Four remained intact for so long that their respective absences this season are especially jarring. Catcher Jorge Posada retired before the year, and the other three all suffered major injuries: closer Mariano Rivera tore his ACL in a fluke batting practice incident; starter Andy Pettitte suffered a leg fracture after a line drive struck him on the mound; and now Jeter broke his ankle." So how could Donna be so happy and joyful at Jeter's broken ankle last night? I have not gloated during our 17 years of glory here. Well not much.
Gloomy Day. But there baseball to be played today. Yankee Playoff Baseball! There is NO Derek Jeter, NO Mariano Rivera, NO Jorge Posada, etc. This Day was coming. BUT there is an Andy Pettitte, a CC Sabathia, a Mark Texeira, a Robinson Cano and yes, an Alex Rodriguez. ALL World Series Champions. Lets Play Ball... LETS GO YANKEES!
2012 Alcs game 1 Tigers win 6-4 in extras 12 innings. The positives i'll take from the game are Andy Pettitte once again Pitched his heart & soul out well enough to deserve & earn a win. New October Hero Raul Ibanez. Ichiro had some moments now to in spots. I HATE Valverde I like that we got his *** finally. Pen did a good job. Martin & Jeter continue to hit. The negatives of the game are don't let Young & Peralta beat you. I thought Cano was safe on that play to. The Game was Lost when the Yankees had bases loaded 3 times they could of should of had the game won in the early innings of the game. That 1 Inning where 3 of them took Strikes & Swung at Balls. The Cano Truth is after the yanks won the al east & 3 days off b4 game 1 of the alds do you remember he was the HOTTEST HITTER at the time, those 3 days off hurt him so bad he's not there right now. Joe Knows now if he wants to win then it's time to play gardner & ibanez & sit you know who finally 2 balls he should of had tonight & he's just not post se ...

Andy Pettitte. Derek Lowe. Who's next, David Cone? What year is it?
I love how the announcers are singing Andy Pettitte's praises but forget to mention that he is an admitted steroids user.does the integrity of the game mean anything anymore??? Babe Ruth and Ted Williams are rolling in their graves
I love Andy Pettitte (and his crazy eyes) as much as Suzyn Waldman loves Roger Clemens.

The Yankees rotation is set for the first four games of the American League Championship Series against the Tigers. The team will throw out Andy Pettitte for Game 1, Hiroki Kuroda for Game 2 on short rest, come back with Phil Hughes on Tuesday against the Tigers’ Justin Verlander for Game 3, and CC Sabathia back on full rest for Game 4.
10/12/12: Andy Pettitte expresses his excitement about starting Game 1 of the ALCS against the Tigers
Loving baseball, especially the diffen side MLB doesn't like to talk about: The Yanks will be pitching Andy Pettitte, the loyal Yankee who left for Houston, ratted-out his buddy Roger Clemens, and used steroids...go Yanks!? With any luck another former Yank, Melky Cabrera, will be playing for the Mets next year?
The New York Yankees are in the ALCS baby!!! They defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3 games to 2 and now will face the Detroit Tigers in a best of 7, starting later tonite at 8 pm ET at Yankee Stadium, with a matchup of Andy Pettitte vs Doug Fister...I went to 2x amazing games, Game 3 (with a strong Hiroki Kuroda and 2x AMAZING solo HR's in the bottom of the 9th and 12th innings respectively by Raul Ibanez) and Game 5 (an absolutely DOMINATING CC Sabathia with the complete game victory)...it was 2 of the best playoff games I have ever been to and the STARTING PITCHING by both teams was outstanding and fun to watch...now LETS GO YANKEES (beat the *** Tigers)!!!
Vintage CC buries O's, lifting Yanks to ALCS By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com | 10/12/2012 10:10 PM ET Comments (1489) BALGm5: CC goes distance, sends Yanks to ALCS NEW YORK -- CC Sabathia strapped his team's hopes across his broad shoulders and answered the call of a must-win challenge, delivering an outing worthy of his ace billing to punch the Yankees' ticket into the American League Championship Series. Sabathia allowed just four hits in a dominant complete-game effort as the Yankees moved eight victories from their ultimate goal of a 28th World Series championship, defeating the Orioles, 3-1, in Game 5 of the AL Division Series on Friday at Yankee Stadium.
