Man Utd set to axe THREE stars as Louis Van Gaal's clear out continues Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard and Tom Cleverley are heading towards the Old Trafford exit door. The Manchester United trio could all be sold this month as boss Louis Van Gaal continues to revolutionise his squad. Fletcher has caught the eye of new West Brom boss Tony Pulis who is plotting a Premier League survival plan for the Baggies. The 31-year-old Scot has battled back from ulcerative colitis to return to first-team action for United but his chances under Van Gaal have been limited. The arrival of Victor Valdes means Lindegaard is simply surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. The Denmark stopper is thought to be prepared to wait until the summer to leave Manchester if the right deal doesn't come his way this month.(Daily Star) -360

Man Utd to sign goalkeeper Valdes 7 January 2015 Victor Valdes spent 12 years at La Liga side Barcelona Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has accepted an offer to join Manchester United. The Spain international, who has been training with United in his bid to recover from a serious knee injury, has agreed an 18-month contract. Valdes, 32, won six La Liga and three Champions League titles with Barcelona, before leaving at the end of last season when his contract expired. The deal could lead to reserve keeper Anders Lindegaard leaving Old Trafford. It also poses a question about the future of 24-year-old first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, who was the club's player of the year last season and has excelled again this term. His contract is due to expire in 2016, although senior United sources have said they were relaxed about him signing an extension to that deal. Valdes's honours at Barcelona La Liga: 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013. Copa del Rey: 2009, 2012. Champions League: 2006, 2009, 2011. ...

FIVE REASONS WHY ARSENAL WILL BEAT Man United THIS WEEKEND 5) Anders Lindegaard In Goal At this point, it's not clear who will play in goal for United. David De Gea has not been definitely ruled out after dislocating a finger in training with Spain this week. Anders Lindegaard played in a specially organised friendly behind closed doors on Tuesday, indicating United fear their Spanish stopper won't be fit. De Gea has saved his side in several games this season, making stunning saves to deny both Everton and Crystal Palace points in recent weeks. Without him, United are significantly weaker, and his absence should swing the game in Arsenal's favour. 4) Man United's Injuries De Gea is by no means the only player the Red Devils will be missing. Daley Blind and Michael Carrick both injured themselves on international duty, and both Luke Shaw and Angel di Maria picked up knocks. Marcos Rojo, Rafael, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are all confirmed out - and that's just in defence! 3) Arsenal's pace up front The No ...

David De Gea monitored by Real Madrid as Manchester United plan contract talks There had been increasing clamour in Spain for 23-year-old De Gea to replace the under-fire Iker Casillas in the national side and Madrid are considering a similar move at club level. United, though, are planning discussions over an improved contract with their goalkeeper and hope to ratify a new long-term deal soon. De Gea, who was player of the year last season, signed for £17.8million in June 2011 and his deal runs out in 2016. Although initial conversations took place last year, talks had been put on hold as United strengthened their squad in other areas. Louis Van Gaal still wants another goalkeeper to provide competition for De Gea with Anders Lindegaard looking for a new club. However, Real see the former Atletico No 1 as the man to replace Casillas, just as he did for Spain in the 4-0 win over Luxembourg.
DE GEA THOUGHT ABOUT QUITTING UNITED Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea admitted he considered quitting Old Trafford after a difficult initiation into the Premier League. De Gea was heavily scrutinised during his debut season with United, having arrived from Atletico Madrid as a £17.8million replacement for Edwin van der Sar in 2011. The Spaniard's physique and decision making were brought into question, while a dip in form saw him axed by Alex Ferguson in favour of understudy Anders Lindegaard. De Gea - winner of United's Player of the Year award last term - has gone on to silence his critics and in a big way after singlehandedly denying Everton victory in a man-of-the-match display on Sunday. The 23-year-old stopped a first-half penalty before producing a stunning save to flick the ball over the crossbar in the final minute of injury time as United won 2-1. Looking back at his early struggles, De Gea conceded he was forced to think about a return to Spain, but feels he is better for the experien ...

The Premier League has confirmed Manchester United's official squad lists for the 2014/15 season following the closure of the transfer window. The 24-man senior list is not definitive in terms of those available for selection as players can also be nominated from the Under-21 roster. This includes, for instance, Tyler Blackett, Adnan Januzaj, Luke Shaw and James Wilson. The Under-21 players must have been born on or after 1 January 1993. Additional changes to the senior squad can only be made during transfer window periods but loans will be permitted to lower division clubs. The requirement is for no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the homegrown player criteria. A homegrown player is deemed to be somebody who has been registered with any club affiliated to the English or Welsh FA for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months before his 21st birthday - or the end of the season during which he turns 21. United (* = homegrown): Ben Amos*, David De Gea, Anders Lindegaard; Jonny ...

Manchester United have reportedly released Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard from his contract at Old Trafford
Van Gaal hails "best match so far" Louis Van Gaal felt Manchester United’s performance in beating Inter Milan on Tuesday was the best of his three games in charge so far. The Reds overcame the Italian outfit 5-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in Washington DC, to stay top of the International Champions Cup group with five points. Van Gaal made eight changes at the break but both his sides were dominant in defence, with goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea virtual spectators. "I am very pleased," the manager said. "I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three. "They only had one shot on our goal and that was given by the referee [a free-kick], but I think we also created six or seven chances, so then it is seven against one. "I was very pleased with our ball possession; it was much better than the other matches. And I think also the positions were better covered. "So tonight I was very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the secon ...
Manchester United beat Inter 5-3 on penalties after their International Champions Cup clash finished goalless. The Red Devils scored each of their penalties, with captain Darren Fletcher converting the decisive kick after Marco Andreolli rattled his effort off the crossbar. Manager Louis Van Gaal made four changes to the starting XI that played Roma on Saturday, with Anders Lindegaard, Chris Smalling, Fletcher and Ashley Young returning to the line-up. United came close to breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute with defender Phil Jones, he stooped low to direct his header towards the bottom corner of the net but Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic got his hand to the ball and denied Jonny Evans on the rebound in a goal-mouth scramble. There were few clear-cut chances throughout the first half, though Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Danny Welbeck cut the Italians apart with a thrilling passing move, only for Mata’s low cross to be cut out before it reached Rooney. Wilfried Zaha was the only player in United ...
Algeria’s impressive goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi spent several days on trial at Manchester United, only for former manager Sir Alex Ferguson to pass up the opportunity to sign him in 2010. The CSKA Sofia stopper was invited to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground for just under a week four years ago but failed to earn himself a deal under the watchful eye of Ferguson and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele. It was around the time that United were on the hunt for goalkeeping recruits with Edwin van der Sar set to retire in the summer of 2011. Ferguson eventually decided upon signing ADavid De Gea following Van der Sar’s retirement. M’Bolhi was considered as a back-up option but United eventually signed Anders Lindegaard, who joined in the following January. [Source: Daily Mail]

Anders Lindegaard getting married today. We wish him and his wife all the best.
Ryan Giggs proved he can rise to any occasion by taking on the role as Manchester United interim manager in the Reds' last four games of the season, but before he assumed responsibility for marginally more important matters he took part in United Uncovered's keepy-up quiz. Ben Amos previously knocked fellow goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard out of the top three on our leaderboard with a score of 39 points, but Giggs was keen to display his brain power and ball skills, chasing high-scorers Phil Jones (44) and leader Tom Cleverley (55). The challenge is simple, but not as easy as it looks to pull off: answer as many questions correctly as you can inside 90 seconds, all while doing keepy-ups with a football. Players score one point for every correct answer, with two points deducted for dropping the ball. See how Giggsy gets on in our latest video.

Giggs discusses future, Rooney and RVP (PA) Friday 2 May 2014 Share Wayne Rooney is a major doubt for Manchester United's match against Sunderland this weekend due to the combination of illness and a minor groin injury. Interim manager Ryan Giggs said a number of United players have been struck down by illness, and are therefore unlikely to play at Old Trafford on Saturday. Giggs said: "A few of the lads have had a bug. Anders Lindegaard has, and so has Wayne. "Wayne has a tight groin also so obviously with the bug you have to be careful with that because his immune system is down. Wayne being Wayne, he wants to be involved so we will just monitor it over the next 24 hours." Since United beat Norwich 4-0 in Giggs' first game in charge last Saturday, Juan Mata, Rooney and Lindegaard have backed the Welshman to be the club's long-term replacement for David Moyes, who was sacked last week just 10 months into a six-year contract. United want a more experienced man at the helm though and have held discussions ...

So David Moyes will be given around £200million to spend this summer with targets like Marco Reus & Toni Kroos on the shortlist. Could this mean the end for Nani & Ashley Young at Manchester United? Who I would like to see sign for Manchester United: Kasper Schmeichel Leighton Baines/Luke Shaw Marco Reus Toni Kroos What you think?
Goalkeepers With 47 appearances during Moyes' 50-game reign no one has started more matches than David De Gea. The Spaniard has been the club's best player this term and is going nowhere. Anders Lindegaard is good enough to be a number one elsewhere but with the manager focused on problems elsewhere, the Dane looks set to remain for at least another season. Ben Amos, however, has continually been sent on loan and at 24-years-old, it's probably best for all concerned if the Englishman stakes a claim elsewhere. A lacklustre first half came to life in the 39th minute when Mata curled an exquisite free-kick past Rob Elliot and into the top corner, and the Spaniard then showed great composure to make it 2-0 five minutes into the second half after being found in the box by Javier Hernandez. Current Players in Manchester United Past Players Goalkeepers 1 David De Gea - Goalkeeper David De Gea was born in Madrid and joined Manchester United in June 2011. Although still very young, he has established himself as a sought after and trustworthy goalkeeper. 13 Anders Lindegaard - Goalkeeper Lindegaard is a Danish goalkeeper who joined Manchester United in the January transfer window in 2010. He is a solid and capable keeper who has also started for his national side, Denmark. When he first joined, former United legend and Danish keepr, Peter Schmeichel, stated he didn't feel Lindegaard was good enough to be the United number 1, however he seems a very capable keeper and not 'just here to pick [his] nose'. 40 Ben Amos - Goalkeeper Defenders 2 Rafael Da Silva - Defender Rafael, like his twin brother Fabio, is a tenacious and feisty full back at United. The Guardian reckons that Manchester United will make a summer bid for the brilliant Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic. They are also looking at replacing Anders Lindegaard with Asmir Begovic, as the uselessness of their reserve keeper is precisely the reason they find themselves in such a pickle. They remain keen on Mehdi Benatia, the excellent Roma centre-back, and have also watched PSG’s Alex, for reasons unexplained. We agree that the Alex link is ridiculous. He is a decent player but, at 31, would surely not be on the Manchester United radar. As for Mehdi Benatia the Moroccan has had a great season at the heart of the Roma defence and, at 26, represents a much more realistic target for David Moyes and Manchester United.

Anders Lindegaard insists he won't quit Manchester United despite being left out in the cold at Old Trafford.(DailyStar)
Manchester United's dismal home form extends with Swansea FA Cup defeat: David Moyes ended this dire defeat with his arms folded, entering and exiting the technical area in the vain hope that his Manchester United side could somehow answer Wilfried Bony's late strike. The tie had entered a 90th minute when Wayne Routledge zipped past Darren Fletcher down the left and popped up a ball that the unmarked Bony headed beyond Anders Lindegaard. At the close Moyes was ashen-faced and the unpalatable facts read that this was a fourth home defeat in a month, a fifth in total. With the manager and the United hierarchy contemplating a January transfer window in which little or no strengthening may occur, where the Moyes project goes from this juncture will fascinate. The Scot admitted a pressing need to recruit. "There is an urgency that we would like to bring people in, but are those players available in January? So there is no point in me hyping it up because the players we would like to bring in are probably not ...
Manchester United 1-2 Swansea City: Late Bony strike dumps Moyes' men out Wilfried Bony struck a late winner as Swansea City dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup and piled more Old Trafford misery on David Moyes. Wayne Routledge put the visitors on course for a famous upset when he lobbed Anders Lindegaard on 12 minutes, only for Chicharito to convert Alexander Buttner's cross and pull United level within four minutes. But Moyes' frustration was compounded when substitute Fabio was shown a red card 10 minutes from time and as both sides pushed forward, Bony headed in Routledge's cross to win it. Rio Ferdinand also hobbled off injured during another disappointing afternoon for the Premier League champions, while Swansea can now look forward to a fourth-round tie against either Birmingham City, Crawley Town or Bristol Rovers. Moyes handed starting spots to goalkeeper Lindegaard and defenders Ferdinand and Buttner, while Danny Welbeck and Chicharito led the line in the absence of injured pair Wayne Roo ...
Wayne Routledge scored the opener and made the winner for Wilfried Bony as Swansea upset Manchester United in the FA Cup to earn their first ever win at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez gave the hosts parity, but they later saw Fabio sent off. Swans winger Routledge stunned the Theatre of Dreams by chipping Anders Lindegaard and giving the visitors an early lead. He was set away between the United centre backs by Alejandro Pozuelo’s reverse pass on 12 minutes for his fourth of the season. The visitors only enjoyed a brief lead, however. David Moyes’s men equalized after a quarter of an hour when Hernandez ended his goal drought by converting a whipped in Alex Buttner cross from close range. Antonio Valencia then blazed over from another decent Red Devils move following good work by Danny Welbeck. Goalmouth action abated thereafter until Chico Flores’s clumsy challenge on Hernandez brought the hosts a free kick. Buttner’s low effort went straight at Gerhard Tremmel 12 minutes before half time. Either ...

David Moyes says Phil Jones will return soon. David Moyes when asked whether Nick Powell will join the team in January from Wigan: "He is going to be staying at Wigan just now," Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard feels that Swansea City will provide a tough test when the clubs meet at Old Trafford in the FA Cup today. Manchester United manager David Moyes feels injuries are part and parcel of the game and he has the squad to cope with the loss of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City feature... One day down, 30 to go until the transfer window closes. Here are five of the big stories from the past 24 hours... 1) Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has indicated Juan Mata can leave the club if he is unhappy. SkySports report him as saying: "I want to keep him. I don't want him to go. That is my opinion, my wish, but my door is open, the club's door is open too so when a player wants to speak to us we are there waiting for them." Mata was substituted after 53 minutes against Southampton, and expressed his displeasure at the decision. Replacement Oscar scored one of the goals in the 3-0 win. French champions PSG are said to have Mata at the top of their agenda. 2) Manchester United have been linked with a £1.5 million bid for Turkish international goalkeeper Mert Gunok. The 24-year-old is being eyed as a replacement for Anders Lindegaard, with the Dane recently linked with a move to Serie A. The Star report that United have been tracking Gun ...
Premier League Team News 26th Hull City v Manchester United We say: Away win Steve Bruce could field the same starting XI for the fourth match in a row. With Robbie Brady (groin) unlikely to be fit to face his former club, Bruce may keep faith with a side that has drawn against Swansea, Stoke and West Brom. Sone Aluko (Achilles) and Stephen Quinn (hamstring) are both certain absentees. Danny Welbeck is a doubt after he suffered a bang on the knee during Saturday's win over West Ham and, though fears of a repeat of the injury that ruled him out earlier in the season have been dispelled, he is in a race to be fit for the KC Stadium. Michael Carrick (Achilles) and Robin van Persie (thigh) are unlikely to be involved and Marouane Fellaini (wrist) is definitely out but Anders Lindegaard should be back after a hip problem. Aston Villa v Crystal Palace We say: Draw Gabriel Agbonlahor returns from a one-match suspension but Christian Benteke is likely to be missing once more. Belgian striker Benteke was left out ...

After another defeat left Manchester United stagnating in mid-table at the weekend, David Moyes was once again a target for criticism as he continues to struggle to get the best out of a group of players that won the Premier League title last season. There is, however, only so much that Moyes can do sitting in the Old Trafford hotseat. His players must shoulder some of the blame and it is clear that among the unquestionable talent at the club, there is also plenty of deadwood. Reports on Monday suggested Moyes could be ready to wield the axe, so who would escape with their United careers intact and who would be moved on to pastures new? David De Gea One of the best young keepers in Europe, talk that Sir Alex Ferguson was thinking of ditching the Spaniard not long after buying him looks even sillier now than it did at the time. De Gea blasts criticism David De Gea has claimed he was the victim of some unfair criticism during his early days at Manchester United. De Gea ended up being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year last term so impressive did his contribution to United’s 20th league title eventually become. He has maintained that form this season and is now firmly established as the Red Devils’ main man between the sticks. It has not always been that way. There was a period last season when Sir Alex Ferguson seemed undecided about picking De Gea or deputy Anders Lindegaard, whilst his debut campaign the year before highlighted physical weaknesses that can be easily exploited in England’s top flight. Yet De Gea believed the snipers were being harsh in the extreme as he struggled to get used to life the toughest of environments. “If I am honest, yes (the criticism was unfair),” De Gea told Inside United. “I was very young and I had arrived at a new club from another country. “I was learning a whole ne ...
VIDEO: Manchester United stars Javier Hernandez, Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone in beatboxing challenge
Javier Hernandez, Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone laid down a beat in a new advert for the American car maker.
Q&A: Anders Lindegaard Although match time has been limited for Anders Lindegaard this season, the Manchester United goalkeeper remains determined to impress whenever given the opportunity. The Danish stopper kept a clean sheet during his first and only appearance of the campaign so far, helping the Reds seal a 4-0 win over Norwich City in the Capital One Cup. Notably, that outing also saw the 29-year-old put Robert Snodgrass into the recovery position after the Canaries forward went to ground with a head injury at Old Trafford. Here, in an exclusive interview with ManUtd.com, Lindegaard reflects on his maiden display and explains the thought process behind his good deed... Were you pleased with your performance against Norwich? It was good. As you say, it was my first game of the season and I enjoyed every second of it. I was pleased with playing and I think we did well as a team. It was my first official display for the manager so of course it was important. Is it difficult coming in when you haven't pl ...
Where are they now? England predicted World Cup stars from 2007 A look at who the Daily Mail thought would be England stars back in 2007 Six years ago the Daily Mail predicted 11 players that would go on to be the future of England, with hilarious results. Only two of the players they predicted have gone on to get any caps, only one of whom is a regular. We run through who they tipped for international success and where they are now: GK: Ben Amos At the time the Daily Mail tipped Ben Amos for success, he was a 17-year-old 'keeper coming through the ranks at Manchester United. Six years on he's still at United, but as a third choice behind David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard after loan spells at Peterborough, Molde, Oldham and Hull. Amos does have three caps for England U21's, but really needs to move on if he has any chance at all of being selected by Roy Hodgson. RB: Sam Hutchinson 24-year-old Sam Hutchinson is still on Chelsea's books but currently on loan at Dutch side Vitesse, only managing to to amass ...

Case for United clear-out growing Goalkeepers This is one of the few areas where Moyes should have few concerns. Indeed, there are suggestions that David De Gea's excellence will bring him an extended and improved contract. Providing the Spaniard remains fit and in form, Ben Amos and Anders Lindegaard can continue to alternate as his understudy. Moyes has greater priorities in the transfer market than finding a new backup keeper. Fearing for their future? No one. Full-backs Perhaps only Rafael da Silva can be secure. His brother Fabio has already talked about leaving, and Alexander Buttner was almost loaned out in the last transfer window. Then there is Patrice Evra, who saw his position advertised in United's summer-long pursuit of Leighton Baines and late attempts to bring in Fabio Coentrao. The search for a left-back is likely to resume and while, unlike the substandard Buttner, the ebullient Evra would represent high-class cover for a newcomer, his current deal will expire in 2014. Fearing for their f ...

Manchester United legend urges former team mate to leave the club or fight Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar believes that Anders Lindegaard will leave the Premier League Champions if the right club comes in for him. Lindegaard struggled to hold down a regular spot last season due to the form of club rival David De Gea and therefore the Danish goalkeeper will have a decision to make in the summer with regards to his future in Manchester. Speaking to Danish newspaper Sporten Van der Sar advised Lindegaard to deal with the situation if he isn’t happy about his role at the club. The former Dutch international thinks if he wants to remain at Manchester United and have a more active role in the team then he must be prepared to fight for his place in the starting eleven, but that's got to be unrealistic. Van der Sar will be aware of previous comments from Lindegaard saying he wasn't happy to sit on the bench and said about his former team mate “If Anders is not happy about this, then he must do som ...
's been a grueling season but, for some managers, certain players have made life even more difficult. Here is the Premier League 2012/13 nightmare XI: Goalkeeper: Anders Lindegaard | Manchester United The wannabe first-choice 'keeper for the champions of England. His appearances this season have, however, raised questioned if he even warrants the second-choice spot at Manchester United. His final game against West Brom, where he conceded five goals pretty much sums up his season. Right-back: Jose Bosingwa | QPR The QPR defender has not helped his club on or off the pitch this season with his disastrous performances. To top off his on pitch inefficiency, he was also seen laughing after the relegation of his team. Centre-back: Christopher Samba | QPR Samba was one of the most expensive signings of the season at £12.5m but has failed to make a difference for the QPR back-line. He has looked out of shape and out of practice to top off his poor form this season. Perhaps the only reason why he seemed like a de ...
SUNNIE SPORT UPDATE: De Gea receives VDS seal of approval Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea received a glowing appraisal of his abilities from Old Trafford predecessor Edwin van der Sar, while the Spaniard has reiterated his desire to stay at the club. De Gea established himself as United's undisputed No. 1 this season and his impressive displays between the posts helped the Red Devils win the Premier League title and earned him a place in the PFA Team of theYear. And Van der Sar, who won eight major trophies in six years in Manchester, feels that his gloves have been well and truly filled by the former Atletico Madrid youngster. "The first half of the season and the year before, there were some mixed feelings and the gaffer changed it up a little bit to play Anders Lindegaard for three or four games," Van der Sar said to United's official website. "But thenDavid came back in and we stuck with him. "From that point, his performances grew and he became more important to the team all of the time. I ...

[Anders] West Ham are reportedly keeping an eye on Anders Lindegaard as he falls out of favour at Manchester United -
David De Gea will be the world's best goalkeeper in two years, according to Javier Hernandez. Manchester United's £18.9m Spaniard - forced to share duties with Anders Lindegaard during his first season at the club - has been accused of weakness in dealing with high balls since he arrived in the summer of 2011. But De Gea has made the No 1 shirt his own this term, and an eye-catching performance at Real Madrid in midweek brought praise from his critics and Sir Alex Ferguson alike. Now Hernandez has given the boldest assessment yet of his 22-year-old team-mate's potential. He said: "David is doing brilliant and in a couple of years he will be the No 1 in the world. "A lot of people who know about football know that David is a top-class goalkeeper. That is why Manchester United bought him. "They saw how good he can be. If he wasn't at the right level to play at this club he wouldn't be here and they are trying to look after him. "To me, he is a complete goalkeeper. You see the great saves he made on Wednesd ...
id were in a confident mood this morning Paul Scholes will be missing for Manchester United when they face Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 encounter on Wednesday. Scholes has not travelled with the United squad to the Spanish capital as he is nursing a knee problem. The Premier League leaders have no other concerns to contend with. Phil Jones and Jonny Evans have shrugged off knocks in order to make the trip, while Ashley Young and Anders Lindegaard are in Sir Alex Ferguson's thoughts. Real are expected to call upon the services of Xabi Alonso. The former Liverpool midfielder sat out Saturday's 4-1 victory over Sevilla, alongside Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, but he trained with the rest of the Real squad on Tuesday. Pepe could also be available to Jose Mourinho after being put through his paces in the build-up to the game, but Raphael Varane faces a race against time to prove his fitness. Club captain Iker Casillas is sidelined with a broken hand
Strong squad for Madrid United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has named a 22-man squad for the Champions League trip to Real Madrid. The Reds have included Phil Jones and Jonny Evans despite both players being substituted with knocks during the weekend win against Everton. Anders Lindegaard is back in the squad after missing the last two games, as is Ashley Young who has not featured since last month's victory over Liverpool, but there is no Paul Scholes, who has been sidelined recently with a knee problem. Squad: De Gea, Lindegaard; Büttner, Evans, Evra, Ferdinand, Jones, Rafael, Smalling, Vidic; Anderson, Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs, Nani, Valencia, Young; Hernandez, Kagawa, Rooney, van Persie, Welbeck.
David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard travel to Real Madrid for the Goalkeepers. No place for Ben Amos.
INTERNATIONALS: Wayne Rooney scored & Antonio Valencia scored. Cleverley, Smalling and Welbeck played for England, Shinji Kagawa played for Japan, Robin van Persie played for Holland, Evra played for France, Chicharito played for Mexico, Nani played for Portugal, Anders Lindegaard played for Denmark and Angelo Henriquez played for Chile.
Nani and Antonio Valencia could be in direct opposition in Wednesday's international between Portugal and Ecuador. The friendly match takes place at the Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques in Guimaraes and is likely to see the two wingers line up against each other. United's contingent in England's clash with Brazil is down to four after Michael Carrick's withdrawal. Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck are looking forward to pitting their wits against the South Americans at Wembley. Patrice Evra is in the France squad for their glamorous game against Germany and Robin van Persie also has an attractive fixture to relish as Holland entertain Italy. Jonny Evans travels with Northern Ireland to Malta after returning from injury during the win at Fulham while Anders Lindegaard was not on the bench at Craven Cottage but is still currently in the Denmark party for the trip to Macedonia. 3/2/13: Paul Scholes may be one of the favourites with the bookmakers for the vacant managerial position at Oldham but the Manchester Evening News thinks it's "highly unlikely" the midfielder will be heading to Boundary Park. 3/2/13: The Mirror follows up the Asmir Begovic story in their sister paper by insisting Stoke are demanding a fee of £15million for the highly-rated keeper. 3/2/13: The Sunday People states United will sign Asmir Begovic in the summer for £9million. The Stoke keeper's reported arrival won't see the exit of David De Gea but Anders Lindegaard instead and the report adds Ben Amos will return from Hull, even though he has been back for a while and was on the bench again yesterday. -Jimmy
Team News ahead of tonight clash. Ashley Young and Jonny Evans will remain on the sidelines. England winger Young suffered a knee injury against Liverpool a fortnight ago, whilst Evans (hamstring) has not featured since the FA Cup draw at West Ham three weeks ago. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson must decide whether to stick with David De Gea in goal or recall Anders Lindegaard, who took over for the replay win against the Hammers.Fulham midfielder Kieran Richardson will miss the chance to take on former club Manchester United. The 28-year-old suffered a calf injury in last weekend’s defeat at Manchester City and will not be fit in time for the game at Old Trafford, although he is likely to return to training next week. Mahamadou Diarra (knee) is not likely to play again for a month whilst Kerim Frei (pelvis) is also absent.
Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen writes in his Daily Telegraph column that Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea "has a frailty and a weakness when the ball is in the air" and adds: "if he makes one more mistake that costs them like that, Sir Alex has got no alternative but to take him out and bring back Anders Lindegaard."

Fernando Muslera, Asmir Begovic, Pepe Reina ? or David De Gea & Anders Lindegaard still has future at Old Trafford ???
The third goalkeeper in the space of two days to be linked with United by the Daily Mail is Fernando Muslera. The Uruguayan played against the Reds in the Champions League and the main basis of the story seems to be that he impressed in the game in Istanbul. However, Anders Lindegaard's performance was actually far more eye-catching on the evening in November. - Buky

Manchester United are preapring to ditch out of form David De Gea and buy a keeper this January. Manchester United boss Sir Alex is reportedly chasing Liverpool star Pepe Reina if David De Gea leaves United this January.

Anders Lindegaard says team spirit at Manchester United is sky high. The Premier League leaders took 10 points from a possible 12 over Christmas and New Year to open up a seven-point gap between themselves and Manchester City. "The team spirit is as high as I can remember since I came here [in December 2010],” he told MUTV. 'We have done tremendously well over the Christmas period and picked up some great results, only dropping points against Swansea - which was a game that we should have won in my opinion. "We have done brilliantly and you can see that in the team spirit as well, people are happy and there’s a good, friendly and funny atmosphere in the locker room. It’s a joy coming into work at the moment. "Training is not hard work during the Christmas period because we have so many games. We just come in and prepare for the next game and then we go again."
Of course, a deal for a star like Cristiano Ronaldo is never a simple matter, and it really comes down to what Man United has to give up. Early speculation from Mirror Online has the Red Devils sending winger Nani and keeper David De Gea to Real Madrid, along with a £60 million fee. Nani wouldn't hurt, as the speedy 26-year-old has yet to make an impact for the Red Devils. Losing de Gea could be tough, but backup Anders Lindegaard could handle a starting role. The Red Devils would surely give up more goals, but not enough to cancel the scores they'd be gaining. In terms of salary, Man U has the ability to pay Ronaldo in the realm of £300,000 a week. While other clubs could pay more, none have the history with Ronaldo like Manchester United. If Cristiano Ronaldo were to return to the Red Devils, now would be the time. There's mutual interest in such a deal, and it would be the right move for all parties involved..

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists he won't spend in January. Ferguson has generally been reluctant to conduct any winter business, although Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic arrived in 2006 and keeper Anders Lindegaard the only high-profile Christmas signing (2011) since then. When asked if there were areas of his squad he wanted to strengthen, Ferguson told Eurosport-Yahoo!: "No. The January transfer market has never been the best market and that has proved itself over the years. "You get very few big transfers - all the big transfers are done in the summer.

David hits top Gea David De Gea is delighted to be Manchester United’s Christmas No 1. But just 12 months ago, the keeper could have released a blooper DVD. The £17.8million buy from Atletico Madrid had a tough start to life at United after becoming the permanent successor to legend Edwin van der Sar. He twice lost the regular first-team spot to Anders Lindegaard but has looked a different stopper since winning the jersey back at the start of this month. De Gea, 22, said: “The biggest thing for me is that I’ve managed to work through some difficult times and those moments always make you stronger. It makes you a stronger person and a better player. “I think I’ve improved right across the board, in all aspects of my game. I’m still only young and I feel as though I’m learning every day. “I’ve hopefully got a long career ahead of me, so I want to soak up as much knowledge as I can while I’m young.” While De Gea was at a big club in Spain with Atletico, he says it is nothing like the s ...

Man City v Man Utd (1330 GMT) As United legend Peter Schmeichel predicted earlier, Sir Alex Ferguson does decide to start with David De Gea between the sticks. The Spaniard, who has not played a Premier League game since the 3-2 win at Aston Villa on 10 November, replaces Anders Lindegaard, who is not even on the bench. Youngster Sam Johnstone is the back-up keeper. Ferguson makes two other changes from the side which won 4-3 at Reading last weekend - and they both come in his midfield. Tom Cleverley and Antonio Valencia start ahead of Darren Fletcher and Anderson, who both drop out of United's matchday squad.
Manchester United have made a habit of rotating their goalkeepers so far this season, with Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea battling it out for the number one spot. But Peter Schmeichel has backed De Gea to come good. He told 5 live: "We have a very young kid here in goal, he was heavily criticised and showed some incredible mental strength to come through that. "De Gea has been unlucky this season with an operation and the manager has played Lindegaard. When I started it was always as near to the same XI you could have, the mentality was different. You didn't have the Champions League so you didn't have to look ahead four or five games. "
As much as i love Sam Johnstone, putting him on the bench today is a mistake, he is our youngest but one of the best keepers of his age, if De gea was to get injured today then how scared could he be, this is the Derby of the year, he would have so much pressure on him. i just don't htink its fair. -De Chichaooney
Who should start in goal for Man Utd? - De Gea - Lindegaard -ASG.
Sir Alex : "Anders did well, De Gea is a very talented keeper. I've got a big decision to make." Ki bizin choisir ?
Manchester United are weighing up a move for Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic as doubts remain over the reliability of David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard.. Do u think its Right?? *Lakshmi :)*
You may want to know this ... Chris Smalling spills the beans on his United team-mates: BEST TRAINER: Pauls Scholes. At his age he could rest on his laurels but he's out there and he's kicking a few people as well. He's a class act. MOST SKILFUL: Nani. He's often doing his tricks in a game but he loves to do it in training and more often than not it comes off. HARDEST SHOT: Scholesy. Whether it's on the floor, volley, half-volley, you don't want to be getting in the way of that. WORST DANCER: Anders Lindegaard. He's got too much rhythm going on. He tries, bless him. WORST DRESS SENSE: It's a bit harsh because he's a young lad but Nick Powell. He just wakes up, gets out of bed and puts on whatever's on the floor. I'm sure he'll learn. WORST TASTE IN MUSIC: David De Gea. Sometimes when we're on the coach and he's got his headphones on they're blazing out and I just can't understand what it is. He's into his rock. It's not for my ears. FUTURE MANAGER: Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans. They seem pretty switche ...
Sir Alex Ferguson is setting his sights on the Stoke goalkeeper after unconvincing performances from Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea. -n9-

David Anderson of The Mirror wonders which of United's two goalkeepers will start the Manchester Derby.
Sir Alex has confirmed Vidic, Kagawa, Cleverley, Anderson, Nani and Valencia won't take any part in the Manchester Derby this weekend. So, what would be your starting XI vs City ?
David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard are certainly trying for Sir Alex Ferguson. No matter which one he chooses to start with, he ends up frustrated with them. Lindegaard got the nod for a few games, and was doing OK in Fergie’s eyes. That was until Reading on Saturday, when the Dane conceded three goals in 15 first-half minutes. So out he went and in came De Gea last night to make his first start since November 10. Ferguson admitted before the Cluj game that he is worried by United’s leaky defence, and heading in Sunday’s huge derby clash with Manchester City without a settled No.1. It’s little wonder that he rues the day he passed on signing City keeper Joe Hart, when he was a Shrewsbury unknown. Without the use of Dr Who’s Tardis, Fergie must persevere with Lindegaard and De Gea – with the Spaniard staking his claim to start at the Etihad. He made a fine early reflex save with his feet to keep out red-faced team-mate Chris Smalling’s sliced clearance. That settled De Gea down and what littl ...

Manchester United Peoples Person shared the following link and had this to say about it: Anders Lindegaard – 6 He didn’t really have anything worthwhile to deal with. He did palm away a cross to Jamie MacKie who tapped in for the opener. Harsh criticism but he could’ve probably done better. Rafael da Silva – 7 Another fresh performance for Rafael. He delivered some very tasty crosses and dealt with the enigmatic.
Manchester United came from behind to beat bottom of the table Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford today. The visitors, with new manager Harry Redknapp watching from the stands, started brightly and dominated the opening exchanges. Manchester United welcomed Wayne Rooney back into their starting eleven, but the England international struggled, as did his team, to get things moving in a lethargic first half performance. And so it was slightly less surprising than it should have been to see QPR take the lead. Seven minutes into the second half Shaun Derry's shot was parried by Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard, and Scotland international Jamie MacKie tapped home. QPR caretaker manager Mark Bowen must have been dreaming of a heroic away win, but Sir Alex Ferguson quickly responded by throwing on his super-sub Javier Hernandez, as well as Anderson. The two additions upped the tempo for United, and the Red Devils were soon back in the game, Jonny Evans bundling in an equaliser in the 64th minute b ...
