Want to buy a Corvette? No, not the new C7 Chevrolet Corvette that made its splashy debut at the North American International Auto Show this past week.
OK some notes about my experience at the North American International Auto Show. 1. When it comes to parking, the gravy train is over. I used to park for free at the Greektown Casino garage, and then walk the bridge into the casino and to the People Mover and take that to Cobo, being that Greektown is the half-way point, so only a 7½ minute ride. If I park at Joe Louis garage then I have to take the whole 15 min trip either coming or going and I don't feel like walking all the way back in the cold to the garage, dealing with panhandlers all along the way. Needless to say, the casino must have caught on. This year they are charging $20 to park (unless you are a casino preferred member), so I skipped the main garage and headed to the Trappers Alley garage near Fishbones, still $15, but I don't have to walk through the casino crowded with people. 2. On Thursday, the Corvette will be back in The Big Apple, marking the historic milestone with the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The all-new Corvette Stingray debuted earlier this week at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “The all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most advanced and engaging Corvette in the long, prestigious legacy of this uniquely American success story,” said Chris Perry vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “It is a car woven into the fabric of American culture and it got its start right here in the Big Apple.” The introduction of the original Corvette took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Jan. 17, 1953. That year, more than 1.4 million people saw the curvaceous design and futuristic approach of the Corvette at displays around the United States ...
Now, how is this supposed to be fair? No matter what boldly conceived concept vehicles or irresistible new cars and trucks are displayed at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette rules over them.
