Why is it that Kelly Reilly and Amanda Abbington look identical and have both played Mary Morstan in different Sherlock productions
Benedict Cumberbatch was cast after Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss watched his performance in Atonement (2007). They thought he looked like a perfect Holmes As part of his preparation after being cast as Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch read every original Conan Doyle story. The actual address used for filming the exteriors of 221B Baker Street is 187 North Gower Street, London NW1. Amanda Abbington, who plays Mary Morstan, John Watson's fiancé/wife in the series, is the real-life longtime partner of Martin Freeman. Matt Smith auditioned for the role of Doctor Watson before his Doctor Who audition
Now thats pretty cool, Actor Martin Freeman and wife Amanda Abbington play John H Watson and Mary Morstan in BBC's adaptation of Sherlock Mary is John's wife on the show, :)
Amanda Abbington joined the cast of "Sherlock" for the third season of the hit PBS series, playing Dr. John Watson's (Martin Freeman) fiancée Mary Morstan, and
Sherlock Season 3 A lot has happened in the two years since Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) seemingly leapt from a building to his untimely death in the Sherlock season two finale ‘The Reichenbach Fall.’ For John Watson (Martin Freeman), those two years have culminated in him finally settling down with his cozy GP job, his nice new home, his experimental facial hair and his lovely fiancée-to-be Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington). For Sherlock, the years haven’t quite been so kind. The third season finds the consulting detective shaggy-haired and bloody, being tortured for information in a Serbian prison. To add insult to injury, a bird has pooped on his gravestone. After finally managing to dismantle the last of Jim Moriarty’s (Andrew Scott) criminal network, Sherlock is called by to London by his brother, Mycroft (Mark Gatiss), to prevent an imminent terrorist attack, conveniently helped by the fact that his name has recently been cleared of all the crimes that Moriarty attempted to pin on i ...
When it was revealed that Watson’s fiancee, Mary Morstan, would be joining Season 3 of “Sherlock,” the reaction from some fans was ... less than thrilled. Amanda Abbington preaches patience.
- *** Sherlock fandom, I had such hopes for you. (Nevermind the fact that Amanda Abbington is Martin Freeman's real-life wife. Nevermind that Mary Morstan married John Watson IN THE ORIGINALS. What the *** is wrong with people?)
My mom when she saw Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan: "So, that's Martin's wife?" me: "yep." mom: ".does Martin wear glasses?" me: "uhhh, i'm. not sure? I think?" mom: "well, he needs his eyes re-examined, because that woman is dog ugly!"
People complained about Mary being a part of the show, but I for one -love- Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan. And it kinda helps that Amanda and Martin are actually life partners, and make an adorable couple...
The Empty Hearse watched again. Yay. Im still ill, not so yay. A bit of Sherlock trivia - Katherine Parkinson plays Kitty Riley, the News Reporter who poses as a Sherlock super fan in the last episode of Series 2. Amanda Abbington plays Mary Morstan, John's soon-to-be wife. Katherine and Amanda both star in the Maltesers commercial, and IMHO, look rather alike. Im am very much looking forward to The Sign of Three tonight.
It's so awesome how Martin Freeman's character, John Watson, is married to his real-life wife Amanda Abbington's character, Mary Morstan in Sherlock.
So...I'm not at all looking forward to His Last Vow. Why? Well, first off, spoilers below (probably, or super sad theory time.) . . . . . . OK, so when doing your wedding vows, what's the last vow? "Till DEATH do us part." Death. DEATH. IN ACD canon, Mary Morstan dies. And what is the last episode called? "His Last Vow." I thought is was a take on His Last Bow, the very last Holmes story, but no. Because Sherlock made no promises. Didn't get married. John did. *** .. Now can I just say that I love Mary? In any form, really. And Amanda Abbington is the best at the role. I do not want her to die. No no no. Especially not with Moffat. Moffat is a good writer. He'll do good with Mary, I think. But her death? Hel no. Moffat is too good at writing deaths. Which means we are going to SOB and BAWL our freaking eyes out. Maybe I should start a support group. We can make T-shirts! !Molls
John Watson and Mary Morstan are so adorable, especially when you know that Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington have been a real life couple for over a decade.
Amanda Abbington (“Mr. Selfridge”) joins “Sherlock” Season 3 as Mary Morstan, John Watson’s fiancee. But she’s also Martin Freeman’s real-life partner. Find out more on the actress here.
My fellow Americans: I've seen it. The meaning of the title, "The Empty Hearse," is brilliant. I can't conceive of another serial this high profile that so directly and amply acknowledges the most bonkers and prurient aspects of its own fandom. It is as if Mark Gatiss made an index of what the fandom has been parroting and squeezed an amalgam of it into an episode. Amanda Abbington is wonderful as Mary Morstan. Una Stubbs is terrific and gets to use some great material this time. As for a character you'll meet named Phillip, well... I'll leave that for you to find out yourself. I wish I could tell you what the highlight of the episode was for me - I'll just say that somewhere around the 25-30 minute mark I started laughing hysterically. The Johnlock shippers have more material to work off of than ever, and Mrs. Hudson is the worst of them all.
Can't wait to see Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan *cough* ekhm, Dr.Watson :3
So excited for and Amanda Abbington to play Mary Morstan!!
Mary Morstan is a character from the canon, she's being played by Amanda Abbington. One of my favorite actresses.
So John Watson is gonna marry Mary Morstan who is played by Amanda Abbington which is Martin Freeman's long time partner... wow... X
Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington on The One Show. So, basically, it's Dr Watson and Mary Morstan.
Sinopse 3x03: "His Last Vow" In the final episode of this new series, written by Steven Moffat, a case of stolen letters leads Sherlock Holmes into a long conflict with Charles Augustus Magnussen, the Napoleon of blackmail, and the one man he truly hates. But how do you tackle a foe who knows the personal weakness of every person of importance in the Western world? Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as John Watson, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen.
DAMMIT we haven't even met Mary Morstan yet and already she's pretty much my favourite character. I KNOW Amanda Abbington's style of acting. She WILL be fantastic. Crying because I know what happens to Mary in the ACD Canon. ~DJWS
'Sherlock' series 3: New plot teasers hint at romance drama BBC One has released a new official synopsis for Sherlock's long-awaited third series. The hit detective drama - starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman - will return to screens over the Christmas and New Year period. Amanda Abbington is the only actress I will accept playing Mary Morstan. She is Martin Freeman's wife in real life.
//I wonder who's gonna be Mary Morstan on The Sign of Three. I wish she was Amanda Abbington.
