"It's (returning to fight in UFC) not a subject he has to think about. If the deal ends up over in WWE, if a change of circumstances happens, and if it's a no-brainer to get him back into the cage, I'm sure it's something he'd consider. But they can't hold a candle to UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, a bona fide "rock star" who even blows away Brock Lesnar in terms of media attention, according to UFC President Dana White. Sorry, "Bones." That was the sentiment coming out of this week's media luncheon, which not only served to promote "Rowdy's" upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) headliner, but to skewer other fighters, like the oft-injured Alistair Overeem and former Strikeforce champion Cristiane Justino. Yahoo! Sports had a ringside seat: "She's the hugest superstar. I'm going to go out and say she's the biggest star we've ever had. Ronda's never cheated, ever. She's an Olympian. Lol Bob Sapp defeats Fedor! arm wrestling Although both competed in mixed martial arts at a high level, Bob Sapp and Fedor Emelianenko never met inside the ring or cage. Probably a good thing for Sapp who likely would not have stood a chance against the famed Russian heavyweight, but Sapp was able to defeated Fedor today in a different arena: Fedor Emelianenko lost earlier Monday in Japan to Bob Sapp. No, it's not what you think. It was actually part of a celebrity 17-man arm wrestling tournament that also included UFC fighters Alistair Overeem, Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto and Mark Hunt, as well as other MMA stars well known in Japan like Kazushi Sakuraba and Kevin Randleman, and famous kickboxers Jerome LeBanner and Francisco Filho. Sapp won the tournament, beating Baruto, a 415-pound Estonian who was a famous sumo in Japan until retiring earlier this year. After being "avenged" in thunderous fashion by his friend Antonio ‘Bigfoot' Silva at UFC 156, it seems that Junior Dos Santos is done with Alistair Overeem's excuses.
Junior Dos Santos no longer wants to fight ‘limited’ Alistair Overeem after ‘Bigfoot’ Silva ‘put him in his place’ Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos and former K-1 kickboxing champion Alistair Overeem were set to collide inside the Octagon on two separate occasions. But thanks to "Reem's" case of elevated testosterone levels prior to UFC 146 and an untimely injury a few weeks before UFC 160, the much-anticipated showdown between two of the best big men in all of mixed martial arts (MMA) never came to be. And it never will, according to "Cigano." That's because the Brazilian brawler is no longer interested in trading blows with the striking Dutchman after two missed opportunities. Of course, should UFC matchmakers decide to match them up yet again, Junior won't decline, but he'd rather not spend his time on "limited" fighters. He explains to Fighters Only: "'Bigfoot' put him in his place. I no longer feel the wish to face him but I fight whomever ...

Travis Browne isn't a better striker than Alistair Overeem but his length and athleticism make him a difficult matchup for The Reem.
Following devastating knockout wins over Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva gets the rematch he’s craved tonight when he challenges Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title
Bigfoot looks to re-write history It was Mark Twain who wrote, “the very ink with which history is written is merely fluid prejudice” and those famous words seem more appropriate than ever as we approach UFC 160. The UFC returns to the MGM Grand Garden Arena this Saturday, headlined by a title fight that most people have written off already. In one corner stands two-time Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, the man who mauled Junior Dos Santos to regain his gold. In the other is a man who stands, literally, as a giant amongst the sport’s big men: Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Statistically, the challenger looks every inch a viable contender. Standing 6’4 and weighing in at 285lb, he boasts a resume that includes Fedor Emelianenko, Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem. So why the pre-fight pessimism? Well, as any MMA aficionado would tell you, this is Bigfoot we’re talking about. You know Bigfoot right? Slow, plodding, clumsy old Bigfoot. Man, he’s got a ton of heart but the genetics haven’t be ...

As I have occasionally this means I am doing 8 predictions instead of the regular 7. Anyway thanks for playing guys and let's see just how long we can keep this thing going, anyway here we go: Heavyweight Championship bout: Cain Velasquez (c) (11-1) vs. Antonio Silva (18-4) Predicted Winner: Cain Velasquez - It must be said that Antonio Silva is a very talented heavyweight. First of all he is simply a huge man, he has big knockout power and he has a very good ground game as he is a black belt in both BJJ and Judo. He has also taken out top heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne in his last two bouts. However it could be argued that his win Overeem was as much to do with Overeem's over-confidence as it did with Silva's skill (although it was a vicious knockout). Plus, and this is the biggest sticking point, he was absolutely mauled by Velasquez in their l ...

Lawsuit details top-fighter's payday A lawsuit filed in Las Vegas in December by the former management company of heavyweight Alistair Overeem against Overeem provides a rare glimpse into the UFC's often secretive and multilayered methods of paying its top fighters. Overeem earned a bout fee of $264,285 for defeating Brock Lesnar in UFC 141 and another $121,428 as a "win bonus," according to figures reported to the Nevada Athletic Commission. What the UFC did not have to report, and what's alleged in the lawsuit, is that Overeem also earned a "Pay Per View bonus of $2.00/view for each viewer" in the U.S., Canada and online in excess of $500,000. Additionally, according to the lawsuit, Overeem earned one-third of a $1 million signing bonus he'd agreed to in September as part of a three-fight deal with the UFC. Rob Maysey, an Arizona-based attorney who in 2005 founded the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association, said the UFC structured Overeem's contract in such a way that the overwhelming amount of Overeem ...
A blood test administered to Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 earlier this month has come back clean, and with testosterone levels below the normal testing range.
I've written a bunch of these over the years, offering my views on upcoming fights and this one is no different. If you like the UFC and think I might be right some of the time, you might find this list of predictions on upcoming title bouts interesting.   Heavyweight Cain Velasquez vs Antonio Silva Earlier in February, Antonio Silva shocked the MMA world with his comeback victory over Dutch K-1 champ Alistair Overeem. After being battered for two rounds, he ambushed 'Reem and put the kickboxer against the fence, handing him his first defeat since 2007. Everyone figured it would be Overeem challenging Velasquez for the title of world's toughest fighter, but it wasn't to be. Now, Antonio Silva has a chance to avenge his first round loss to the heavyweight champ and establish himself as the guy in the process.   Will he do it? Doubtful. Silva is a big dude with dangerous hands. He puts guys to sleep. What he isn't is a foil to hard-hitting wrestlers who know how to control a BJJ guy on the ground and avoi ...

UFC 156 proved that Alastair Overeem has alot of hype, but thats about it. I talked alot of smack saying he would have problems with Valesquez or Dos Santos, I overlooked Bigfoot, so did Overeem. He's impressive looking, rather scary, but his core issues have remained the same. If you fight Overeem, he will gas out, and if you make contact with his face, he starts to quit. Dos Santos gets him next, should be interesting. I should have picked bigfoot, but honestly, I didn't think he'd be the guy to expose Overeem. I should have thought more carefully, considering Werdum was able to hang with Overeem on his feet and actually made him look unimpressive. Here are the results. Bigfoot Silva Happy to Shock the World Again by Beating Cain Velasquez "I was very happy, and that is being a part of the realization of my dream, and May 25th I will complete my dream and be champion," Silva told Bleacher Report in an exclusive interview just after receiving the news about the title shot. "I learned that I have to do what I trained with my coaches and follow the strategy," Silva answered when asked what he will do differently the second time around. "I will follow my strategy 100-percent and my training will be basically what I did in my first fight against Cain." Since his loss to Velasquez last year, Silva has managed to knock out previously undefeated heavyweight prospect Travis Browne as well as his thunderous finish of Alistair Overeem at UFC 156. The two emphatic victories catapulted Silva back into the title picture, and with his win against Overeem, he became the last man standing in the heavyweight contender's race. "I'm already used to it," Silva said about not being favored t ...

UFC Fighter Rankings Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC and a fighter can only appear in one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings. Rankings will be updated 24 hours after each event. Heavyweight Champion : Cain Velasquez 1 Junior Dos Santos 2 Fabricio Werdum 3 Daniel Cormier 4 Antonio Silva 5 Frank Mir 6 Alistair Overeem 7 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 8 Roy Nelson 9 Stefan Struve 10 Shane Carwin Pound-for-Pound 1 Anderson Silva 2 Jon Jones 3 Georges St-Pierre 4 Jose Aldo 5 Benson Henderson 6 Cain Velasquez 7 Dominick Cruz 8 Demetrious ...
I would just like to make a quick note to clear up any further confusion that may arise from a subject that is sure to find itself in many headlines in the future. I am quite frustrated and frankly tired of seeing people still defend Alistair Overeem for his elevated levels of testosterone post-Brock, and the number of other fighters who have not tested positive for explicitly banned substances (eg. Nate Marquardt, Chael Sonnen) and people who admittedly take TRT in spite of being world-class athletes in their 30s. "He had elevated levels of testosterone, he didn't test positive for roids, learn the difference!" and things along the lines of what I hear very often. It is very important to note the following: ***TESTOSTERONE -IS ITSELF- AN ANABOLIC STEROID*** When a world-class athlete in his 30s "requires" testosterone replacement therapy, something ought to seem fishy immediately. These are people who have done the best for their bodies for extended periods of time, have maintained high levels of nutriti ...
UFC may have had a prospective blockbuster Heavyweight Championship fight fall apart Saturday night with Alistair Overeem's knockout loss to Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, but received some surprisingly good news out of the show, setting the all-time record for its largest audience ever on FX. Saturday's UFC 156 prelims drew 1,897,000 viewers, topping the previous UFC on FX record of 1,860,000 viewers set two weeks earlier for the Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping card from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The number was a huge increase from the prelims on FX on Jan. 26 before the FOX network special from Chicago's United Center which did 1,208,000 viewers. The largest previous audience on FX for prelims before a big show came on July 7 when the UFC 148 prelims did 1.8 million viewers. But that was to be expected, since there was more interest in UFC on that day with the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen middleweight title rematch than any day over the past two years. This number, for a show where the top matches were Evan Dun ...
Why was Antonio Silva able to knock out former K-1 champion Alistair Overeem at UFC 156? There are plenty of explanations already being discussed, but here, MMA great Bas Rutten offers his analysis on Reem's striking and where things went wrong against Bigfoot.
UFC president Dana White had some strong opinions on the recent performances of Blackzilians team members including Rashad Evans and Alistair Overeem's losses at UFC 156.
Las Vegas – On Saturday at UFC 156, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva derailed Alistair Overeem's planned title shot and threw the heavyweight division into a bit of chaos. Even UFC President Dana White isn't sure what to make of it. Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was promised a title shot if he beat Silva (18-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC). However, in the pay-per-view co-headliner of UFC 156 in Las Vegas, Silva beat down the former Strikeforce champion with a violent third-round assault. With a previous loss to current UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez (11-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) and a modest two-fight win streak, Silva won't take Overeem's spot and get the next shot. Additionally, other than ex-champ Junior Dos Santos, who's 1-1 against Velasquez, there's no clear No. 1 contender. So what about Josh Barnett, who's in talks with the UFC about a potential deal? The former Strikeforce fighter recently rebounded from a grand-prix finale loss to Daniel Cormier with a submission win over unheralded Nandor Guelmino. If a deal is reache ...

Mirko Cro Cop keeping it real in regards to Alistair Overeem: "I wasn't surprised by Silva's victory at all and I had believed he would win," said Cro Cop. "I don't want to come off as a smart *** or say I knew it all along, so I'll explain why I'd believed so. First, Silva is a big tough guy with a huge heart who had demolished Fedor and he needs no better reference than that, and Alistair hugely underestimated him and belittled him with his arrogant statements, so this mobilized Silva in the best possible way. Second, Silva is a natural heavyweight, and Alistair - for the first time since way back in 2007, when he began to gain huge weight – fought without the drugs he had used constantly for years, including testosterone and all the other s--- that goes with it. "Watching the weigh-in, I saw that his muscles mass was nowhere near his usual, he had the weight, but he wasn't nearly as carved out and defined, since he couldn't take anything because he was watched by the Athletic Commission. This also re ...

Las Vegas -- Antonio Silva warned Alistair Overeem to show him respect, and then he went out and earned it In one of the most violent heavyweight knockouts in recent memory, "Bigfoot" crushed Overeem and his championship dreams with a knockout at 25 seconds of round three. "Fight and win inside the cage, not outside," he said. "He talked a lot of s--- but I believe in myself." It was an emotionally charged win for the giant, who afterward stood over the downed Overeem and screamed at him, forcing referee Herb Dean to pull him away. Later, after Overeem was helped to his feet, Silva put the bad blood away to check on his opponent.

What a crazy night we had last night at UFC 156 which leads to an even harder day of post-fight matchmaking. Many figured Jose Aldo would be able to defeat former Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, but Edgar sure did make Aldo work in typical Edgar fashion. Besides that, nearly nothing went as planned. Jon Fitch lost a grinding grappling battle, Overeem got knocked clean out cold, and Rashad Evans was outboxed in a technical striking battle. Yeah, and it’s not even April Fool’s Day. An undercard of finishes and a main card of upsets led to a great night for the UFC, but following the event, there are so many questions. Some that many weren’t even thinking about before the event such as who is next in the heavyweight division? It was a foregone conclusion to many, including myself, that Alistair Overeem was going to steamroll Antonio Silva and move on to challenge UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez. That is now likely not the case. Also, which champion does Anthony Pettis choose to fight? With ...

Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva had a super badass knock out on Alistair Overeem, ***
Went 5-1 in the prelims, and 2-3 in the main card. Great night of fights, especially the preliminary fights. I was pleasantly reminded that Alistair Overeem has no chin and Tyron Woodley is an animal.
So I don't know *** the judges saw but I had Aldo winning 48-47 with the third being close enough to potentially swing though I figured Aldo won it. The fourth and fifth there were NO questions on who won and were won more definitively than any of the rounds Aldo won. So how any judges could score it 49-46 is ridiculous. I have zero faith in judges of combat sports. None. Also LOL about the Dana White idiocy of putting guys in fights with non-top contenders and offering the title shot to only one guy. The strategy has crashed and burned hard in 2013. Michael Bisping offered a title shot, not Vitor: Crushed. Eric Koch next in line for Aldo, Ricardo Lamas not: Crushed. Alistair Overeem offered a title shot vs. Velazquez, Bigfoot not: Crushed. Rashad Evans likely to get next shot at Anderson Silva, Little Nog offered nothing: Crushed. Put the top contenders in and then the winner getting a shot makes sense. Do it this way and you blow up your division because those guys' opponents feel disrespected and more ...

Las Vegas -- Whether it's a super fight or a "superfight," it's on. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Frankie Edgar both successfully made weight, setting up the anticipated UFC 156 matchup, "He's a great fighter, but I'm going to send him back to his weight class," Aldo said after hitting the scale at 145 pounds, one pound heavier than Edgar. Both fighters appeared to hit the number with ease. Edgar sprinted up the stairs and stomped on the stage as if to announce his presence. After making weight he said he felt better than ever at 145. Aldo (21-1), who has had some tough cuts in the past, jogged in place on stage while waiting for Edgar to give his comments to weigh-in emcee Joe Rogan. If Edgar (15-3-1) wins, he would become only the third two-division champion in UFC history following Randy Couture and B.J. Penn. In a heavyweight match two years in the making, Alistair Overeem will take a two-pound advantage into the cage over Antonio Silva. Overeem, though, weighed in with his jeans ...

Alistair Overeem has sights set on heavyweight title but believes he will eventually fight Junior Dos Santos
Las Vegas -- You've heard by now that Alistair Overeem has promised to destroy Antonio Silva at UFC 156. "Bigfoot" has heard it, too. And apparently, that has made the giant angry. Silva had just spent the better part of an hour convincing reporters that he wasn't bothered by Overeem's words, but when the Brazilian got within speaking distance of his opponent, that all changed. The two met for a photo opportunity on Thursday and Silva wasted no time warning Overeem that he had crossed the line. In a tense moment, Silva and Overeem neared each other and Silva appeared to make contact, with his massive left hand covering most of Overeem's face. Silva then began to jaw at him. As Dana White attempted to step in between the massive heavyweights, Overeem responded and the two exchanged words and glares even as they backed away from each other to give way to the next pairing of fighters. According to White, the exchange went like this: Silva: "You better start showing respect." Overeem: "I'm going to f- destroy ...

Josh Barnett dishes on the heavyweight division and shares his thoughts on Daniel Cormier's potential move down to the 205-pound weight class as well as the upcoming fight between Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva at UFC 156 next month in Las Vegas.
The end of Strikeforce came, the event was entertaining. However I have to say that most of the fights from the main event were mismatches, especially Daniel Cormier vs Dion Starring. Props to Starring who did better than I expected in the fight and was able to survive through the first round, his ability to get right back up was pretty impressive,he spars with Alistair Overeem so I expected him to have at least a punchers chance in the fight. Daniel Cormier was real careful in the fight. We shall see him in the UFC where I think that he would beat 95% of the top 10 HW.
Now that Alistair Overeem is back in the game, Cain Velasquez is definitely gonna lose that belt!
