General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sam Nda-Isaiah and you are the leading presidential aspirants in the APC. How is this situation being handled for the sake of the party in the coming general election? We are communicating with one another. Atiku and I have been together for over two decades. We were both under the political leadership of the late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. We were together during the constitutional conference, in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now APC. I consider him as an elder brother. Although Muhammadu Buhari and I had never been in the same party until APC, I have always respected him. We will continue to communicate as a family. We will agree on what to do, whether to leave it for one person or go to the primary. Whichever way, I want to assure you that whoever among us eventually emerges, we will rally round him to ensure that the party succeeds because the success of APC is not only for the party members, but also for the country. We have seen wha ...
TSUNAMI APC SWEEPS A’IBOM In what could be rightly termed an epic tsunami move, the All Progressive Congress, APC, is set to take over the reins of government in Akwa Ibom State from a fatally wounded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Apparently, the defection of Obong Umana Okon Umana, former secretary to the state government together with some state and national lawmakers, local government chairmen as well as thousands of supporters to APC, could be the deluge that will sweep PDP out of town into the Atlantic Ocean. The event was slated to take place today at the sacred ground of Asan Ibibio, the ancestral shrine of the Ibibio race, was postponed yesterday to q later date. It will witness a large turnout of APC heavy weights including the party leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Former Vice President and presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former head of state and presidential aspirant, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, 10 APC governors including Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, his Edo and Rive ...

under intense pressure to drop Vice-President Mohammed Namadi Sambo as his running mate. Although there has not been any reported rift between the duo ─ unlike former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his deputy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ─ the major argument being canvassed against the retention of the Former Governor of Kaduna State is that he is a “political lightweight” and cannot deliver the needed northern votes in the election. As the intrigues are intensified ahead of the official ratification of Jonathan as the candidate of the party after his adoption by various organs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the position of Sambo has continued to come under scrutiny. But a presidential aide told TheCable that Jonathan has no intention of dropping the architect as his vice-president. “It is true that the president has been under pressure from various interests in the north that he should not retain Sambo, but I can confidently tell you that as at today (Sunday), the president has no plans to d ...
A Night of Unending Intrigues For two consecutive nights preceding the July 13 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leadership of the nation’s major opposition party was perhaps at its best of high wire politics and intrigues. Although the party leadership had quickly moved to douse the swirling tension when it resolved to zone party offices at its Tuesday meeting, some of the party’s critics had dismissed the idea as patterned after the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has long made zoning a part of its political ideology. At the end of the Tuesday meeting attended by over 50 of the party’s national leaders, including the likes of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Chief Bisi Akande, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and the 16 governors of the APC, the party approved, for instance, the positions of the National Chairman, Deputy National Secretary and Deputy National Legal Adviser to the South-south, while National Legal Adviser, Depu ...
I WILL EXPOSE PDP AT CAMPAIGNS –ATIKU Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has expressed eagerness to expose the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during political campaigns to mobilize Nigerian voters against the party in next year’s general elections. Speaking while commissioning the office of the Atiku Support Group in Yola yesterday, Atiku said the PDP rule has left the country without any meaningful development or sense of direction, urging the electorate to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the elections. He said from its antecedents in power, it is clear that the ruling party cannot lift the country out of its economic and political problems despite the huge resources at its disposal. “Nothing good for the country will come out of the PDP anymore, we have not started hitting at the PDP yet, we will hit at them during the election campaigns,” he said. Lamenting the level of poverty and lack of infrastructure in Adamawa State which he said cannot compare with any state in t ...
Atiku begs Kalu to join APC • I am okay in PDP – Ex-Abia gov The All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend pleaded with Former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, to join its fold. Dr Kalu , a former presidential candidate, ruled the state between 1999 and 2007 . He is now a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and a chieftain of APC led a top delegation to Kalu’s Abuja home on Saturday to persuade him to dump PDP for APC. The meeting which lasted for about four hours, was held behind closed doors. It was the second time in less than a month that a stalwart of APC would hold a private meeting with the Former Governor to lure him to the opposition party. Former Lagos State governor and National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reportedly met with Kalu in Lagos recently and urged him to join APC. Contacted after last Saturday’s meeting, Atiku and Kalu declined comments on the motive of the their talks. Kalu told newsmen, ...
G7 Govs, nPDP Are Comfortable With APC. ABUJA— AMIDST series of ongoing meetings and moves for realignment of forces, the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led splitter group of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, said that it was more comfortable with the leadership and members of All Progressive Congress, APC. The group, meanwhile, added that doors of reconciliation with the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the National Working Committee, NWC were still open. On Atiku, G7 govs In another development, the PDP has described the Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the seven rebel governors and other aggrieved members of the party as ingrates. The party said that their action was synonymous to an act of biting the fingers that fed them, saying that the party was not bothered by the recent intensified efforts being made by APC to woo some of its governors. 6,000 decampees PDP National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo, weekend, shortly after he received about 6,000 members of the rulin ...
Atiku Abubakar: A LEOPARD AND HIS UNCHANGING SPOTS BY AJIROBA YEMI KOTUN “A man must accept his fate or be destroyed by it.”- Steven DeKnight, in his Spartacus: Blood and Sands Do you know that for a proverbial leopard who never changes its spots like the Former Vice President of Nigeria and Turaki Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (GCON), everything is based and judged by its appearance, since whatever fails to find its way to the glare of the viewing public necessarily counts for nothing? His effective trick to draw attention, therefore, is to hurt the most visible, most favoured and most powerful people he can find in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) [i.e. President Goodluck Jonathan and Chairman Bamanga Tukur]. Robert Greene cuts this particular image in his national best seller The 48 Laws of Power: “The actor who steps into this brilliant light attains a heightened presence. All eyes are on him. There is room for only one actor [Atiku Abubakar; the 7 governors are pawns on his chess board] at . ...

Zoning: PDP must admit 2011 mistake – Atiku Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is of the view that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot move forward until it admits the wrong it committed in 2011, when it gave its presidential ticket to President Goodluck Jonathan in alleged contradiction to its zoning policy. Reacting to the declaration by the party leadership, last week, that it will stick to its zoning policy for the 2015 elections, Atiku told The Nation that “If the leadership is serious about making amends for the injustice of the past, it has to first admit that a wrong had been done and then take appropriate steps to do the right thing.” Atiku, one of the PDP presidential aspirants that lost out in 2011, following the abandonment of the party’s zoning policy said: “It is a fact that the issue of zoning is still enshrined in the constitution as amended. However, recall that in the run up to the 2011 election, the principle of zoning as enshrined in the party was ...
