Atiku takes campaign to Obasanjo Former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, met with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on the state of the nation and his aspiration to be president in 2015. Atiku was accompanied to Obasanjo’s home by former Minister of Aviation and Director-General, Atiku Campaign Organisation, Dr Babalola Borisade; the Senator representing Kogi Central, Muhammmed Ohiare; Chief Oyewole Fasawe, the Director, legal unit of the campaign organisation, Professor Maxwell Gidado and Dr. Adeolu Akande. The meeting, which lasted for about 30 minutes, was held behind closed door. Saturday Tribune however, gathered that the meeting might not be unconnected with the elections and Atiku’s presidential ambition. The former vice-president said he was in Abeokuta to see his former boss and pay respect to him, describing the relationship between them as cordial. He said, “ I came to pay my respect to my former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and secondly, we of course discus ...
When you hear it rained cat and dog, it means that it rained heavily. This is because cats and dogs do not normally see eye to eye and as such, for the cat and the dog to take cover under the same adjoining shelter, the rain must be really heavy. Therefore, I see Nigerian politicians who are sworn enemies and strange bedfellows fraternising as one for parochial interests as cats and dogs! How on earth did Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola end up in the same party, the APC? How did Buhari who redeployed the then Customs' officer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for vehemently refusing the entry of his contraband suitcases into the country end up in the same party as Presidential aspirants? How did Engr. Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi end up together in APC? How can APC with Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar be befriending a touted villain and tormentor like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Indeed politicians are friends solely for merger of interests and nothing more!
FORMER president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has visited his son Adeboye and other military victims of a recent Boko Haram attack in Adamawa State in Jos where they are receiving treatment. Last week, Lt Col Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer with the Third Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army in Jos, Plateau State was injured when his convoy ran into a Boko Haram convoy. His platoon had been sent to engage with Boko Haram militants at Baza in Adamawa State as the Nigerian Army mounted a counter-offensive to reclaim some of the territory seized by the insurgents lately. Lt Col Obasanjo was initially taken to a local hospital in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, where he was visited by his father's Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar among others. Since then, Lt Col Obasanjo has been transferred back to Jos and yesterday, his father, who was abroad in Singapore when the attack took place, visited for the first time. Although the visit of the former president was not announced prior to his arrival, the tra ...
“The political irritant called, Malam Nasir El Rufai” By Iyke Nwambie Malam Nasir El Rufai came into the political consciousness of Nigerians only a few years ago courtesy of the large hearts of the duo of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He was first appointed the Director general of the bureau of public enterprise, (BPE) and was later upgraded to a full-fledged minister when he served as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Since then, he had remained in the public foyer, speaking at will and saying whatever caught his fancy. Some of his remarks often stir the nastiest form of controversies since he would always speak like someone who woke up on the wrong side of his bed, because he would say one thing today and apologize the next week. Take for instance, one time he lambasted the senators for demanding a bribe of 50 million naira from him only to retrieve the same comment for lack of evidence, at a different time, he praised Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to high heaven .. ...
Rotibi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar and History Calling. by Prince Kelly Udebhulu. Once upon a time, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (then the Vice President of Nigeria) engaged in a battle of wits with then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Atiku eventually left the PDP and joined Bola Tinubu to form the Action Congress (AC). Many pundits anticipated the "implosion" of the PDP. It did not happen. Atiku later dumped AC (taking the party's registration certificate with him!) and returned to the PDP. The PDP "lived happily thereafter". LESSON: If the PDP did not "fall" when Vice President Atiku Abubakar fought the leadership, it is unlikely to "fall" because Gov. Rotimi Amaechi has now taken up the gauntlet. Likely or as a matter of conscidence of history, Governor Amaechi may be joining Bola Tinubu, the same step taken by VP Atiku Abubakar. Whatever the case, People should not make too much of this Rotibi Amaechi affair. The interests that bind typical Nigerian politicians together are complex and they do not unravel t ...
