Wimbledon Tennis Defending champion Williams blasts way into last 16 Serena Williams continued her march to a Wimbledon title defence with a 6-2 6-0 third-round win over Kimiko Date-Krumm, while there were also victories for Petra Kvitova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Li Na. Williams broke three times to one in the first set before unleashing a bagel in the second, setting up a last-16 clash with Sabine Lisicki, who earlier on Saturday beat former US Open champion Sam Stosur 4-6 6-2 6-1. The match was shifted to Centre Court to allow play to completion under the roof, with David Ferrer’s win over Alexandr Dolgopolov running to five sets on Court One. Veteran Japanese Date-Krumm battled gamely and made few errors, but the world number one was just too powerful for her. Strangely given their respective ages of 31 and 42, Williams and Date-Krumm had never previously played in a tournament. There were brief moments where Date-Krumm’s enthusiasm and racquet skills buoyed the Centre Court crowd, and she did mana ...
Tennis - Wimbledon Clinical Djokovic crushes Chardy, Murray to face Youzhny Top seed Novak Djokovic ended a highly satisfactory first week at Wimbledon by brushing aside Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-3 6-2 6-2 to continue his serene progress. Chardy, the 28th seed, put up little fight in the evening sunshine on Centre Court with the third round match wrapped up in 86 minutes. Clinical Djokovic, who eased past the same player in the first round two years ago on his way to a first Wimbledon title, is yet to drop a set in three one-sided contests so far. His next opponent, evergreen Tommy Haas, should put up more resistance in the last 16. German Haas surprisingly beat the Serb in straight sets at the Sony Open in Miami in March, although Djokovic took revenge in the quarter-finals of the French Open earlier this month. Fourth seed David Ferrer came through a punishing five-set test against Alexandr Dolgopolov to move into the last 16 in the evening gloom. Ferrer eventually ground down the 26th seeded Ukrainian ...

Alexandr Dolgopolov - Stanislas Wawrinka Tip: 2 ATP Rome - gravel 2 round The prelude to this year's French Open is in full swing, and the last tournament before it goes away at Roland Garros facility, being played in the Italian capital Rome. The field is heavily occupied and I have chosen to look more closely at 2 round showdown between Stanislas Wawrinka and Alexandr Dolgopolov. Wawrinka showed the highest quality games since he last week went all the way to the final in Madrid, where he eventually had to capitulating to gravel king Rafael Nadal. Conversely, Dolgopolov not shown the greats of gravel season so far, and I think that this fight smells of the Wawrinka expand its distinguished gravel statistics. As mentioned Wawrinka out of a tough week in Madrid, and the many fights may have taken a heavy toll on him, so it will be interesting to see where he stands when you also have in mind the French Open banks seriously. Stanislas Wawrinka has this season been on gravel 18 times, and only 3 of those ga ...
Alexandr Dolgopolov was beaten by Ivan Dodig in round one of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.
I understand why Alexandr Dolgopolov must play that way, but a more consistent version of what we just saw beats Ivan Dodig on his best day.
Here are the schedules for the main draw today and tomorrow: Today: 2:30 pm: Xavier Malisse vs Alejandro Falla 6:30 pm: Alexandr Dolgopolov vs Ivan Dodig not before 8:30 pm: Michael Russel vs Sam Querry (both from the USA) Tomorrow Tuesday: 2:30 pm Tommy Haas vs Igor Sijsling 6:30 pm Kei Nishikori vs Ivo Karlovic Not before 8:30 pm: John Isner vs Jesse Levin Confratulatins to Kei Nishikori, who just won the final in Memphis on Sunday!
Šiek tiek iš tennis.com At last year’s Aussie Open, I watched Portugal’s Michelle Larcher de Brito lose a crushing three-setter in her final qualifying match. She was in tears afterward. Today I watched her in the same round, on what I think was the same court, sneak through to the main draw 8-6 in the third set. She celebrated with a scream. At the U.S. Open in August, I watched American Tim Smyczek, in front of a huge evening crowd, beat Ricardis Berankis to make the big show. Today it was Smyczek’s turn to lose, while Berankis, on another court, won easily. (In one final twist of the tennis fates, though, Smyczek made it in anyway as a lucky loser, when countryman John Isner pulled out.) As for Berankis, he didn’t appear particularly thrilled about being in this position again. Two years ago, after seeing the Lithuanian reach the third round here, I included him in a round-up of promising young male players, alongside Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic, and Alexandr Dolgopolov. Those three have ob ...
Andy Murray reaches semi-finals in Brisbane International Britain's Andy Murray reached the semi-finals of the Brisbane International with a straight sets victory over Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin. The top seed beat the 26-year-old 6-4 7-6 (7-3) as he continues his warm up for this month's Australian Open. US Open champion Murray struggled in his opening three-set win against John Millman but looked more comfortable in his second match of the year. Murray, 25, will play fifth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan on Saturday. Murray's 2012 Grand Slam record Australian Open - semi-finals French Open - quarter-finals Wimbledon - final US Open - champion Murray won the first of three titles in 2012 in Brisbane, beating Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov with the loss of just four games. The world number three went on to win gold at the London Olympics and his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open. The Scot looked to have shaken off the rustiness evident in his second-round match against Millman as he sealed the first set with a s ...

No Nadal? ITS NO WORRY, there's plenty of star Power U.S Open. So who'll win the final Grand Slam of The season? Ever notice that whenever the draw gods have spoken to determine the matchups in any given tournament, pundits fall all over themselves to find the name David Nalbandian, then proceed to proclaim that any high seed anywhere near him may be doomed? This time, it's Juan Martin del Potro, Nalbandian's countryman and the No. 7 seed (and recent Olympic Games bronze medalist) at the U.S. Open. Is there a shocking upset in the offing? Don't hold your breath. Nalbandian's best win since Indian Wells has been a triumph over No. 38 Albert Ramos, and this dangerous floater has won exactly one match since the end of Wimbledon. That was just the other day in Winston-Salem, but the former Wimbledon finalist was promptly stopped by Alexandr Dolgopolov. Now there's a more worthy dangerous floater for you. Dolgopolov is up to No. 15 in the ATP rankings, and he recently won at Washington (defeating Tommy Haas). ...

Fellow countryman Sergiy Stakhovsky ranked in the world was given an olympic wildcard since he has played enough Davis Cup. I think this is a dumb rule. Update from the Quarterfinals in Madrid (MEN): (7) Janko Tipsarevic def. (1) Novak Djokovic 7-6, 6-3. (3) Roger Federer def. (5) David Ferrer 6-4, 6-4. (10) Juan Martin Del Potro def. (16) Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 6-4. (6) Tomas Berdych def. (15) Fernando Verdasco 6-1, 6-2. Obviously a shocker that Djokovic got eliminated. Kind of disappointing. I'm all for players getting their opinions voiced and all, but losing as some sort of statement is lame. I'm not suggesting Djokovic tried to lose, but I am suggesting that he packed it in. Is that the same thing? You make that call.
