DJOKOVIC AND WILLIAMS ARE 2013 WORLD CHAMPION. Novak Djokovic has surprisingly been named as 2013 world champion by the International Tennis Federation. Djokovic was chosen above the year-end world number one Rafael Nadal to claim the honour for the third year in a row. Serena Williams was a somewhat less controversial women's world champion, winning the award for the second year in a row.She lost only four of her 82 matches in 2013, winning 11 titles in all, including two Grand Slams - the French and US Opens. It is the fourth time in total she has been named world champion. Bob and Mike Bryan were chosen as men's doubles world champions for the 10th time in 11 years, while Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci retained their world champion tag. Germany's Alexander Zverev and Swiss youngster Belinda Bencic were crowned junior world champions, while the wheelchair tennis awards went to Shingo Kunieda and Aniek van Koot. All the award winners will receive their prizes at the ITF World Champions Dinner which takes ...
Tornado Alicia Black, Stefan Kozlov Headline Americans in Girls, Boys Fields as World’s Top Juniors Come to Plantation, Fla., December 9-15 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., October 31, 2013 – The USTA today announced that Germany’s Alexander Zverev, the world’s top-ranked junior boy, and 2013 US Open junior finalist Tornado Alicia Black (15, Boca Raton, Fla.) are slated to compete among many of the world’s top juniors at the 67th annual Orange Bowl Junior Tennis Championships December 9-15 at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center in Plantation, Fla. Regarded as the longest-running and largest junior tennis tournament in the world, the Orange Bowl will be played on clay – the surface on which it was played from 1947 to 1998 – for the third straight year. The Orange Bowl features singles and doubles competition for boys and girls in 18-and-under and 16-and-under divisions. Nine of the Top 25 boys and eight of the Top 25 girls in the world junior rankings are on the 18-and-under acceptance lists. The 16-and-under ...
I’m glad I taped today’s semifinal between Nadal and Djokovic because there are many points of the match that I will want to watch again. What an epic 5 set battle again from these incredible athletes! Nadal and Djokovic pushed each other, like so many times before, to their limits - both mentally and physical - in a match that could have gone either way at the end. Few words can capture the determination, guts and talent these 2 players showed, if you didn’t get a chance to watch, try to catch a replay. And now Nadal, who will be trying for his record 8th trophy at Roland Garros, plays a first time Grand Slam finalist 31-year old Ferrer. Ferrer, who played a superb tournament so far, kept his calm and deservedly beat Tsonga who unfortunately could not continue his great run in front of his home crowd. Tomorrow I’ll be watching closely the results of the 2 German hopefuls that made it to the junior finals: Antonia Lottner for the girls and Alexander Zverev for the boys.
15-year-old Alexander Zverev (Mischa's little bro) picked up his first ranking point this week. Won a match as a WC at Futures in Germany
