Arsenal's Title push is always as real as the promises of Politicians in Nigeria; just like a Mirrage. Thanks to Mikel Arteta, Olivier Giroud, Thomas Vermaelen, Santi Carzola and Nacho Monreal, My day has been spoilt a day prior to My Exams commencement. The other time I suggested Alex Song's return to Arsenal, a fellow Arsenalist barked at Me. I believe You have seen what Flamini-Arteta combo could build for us? Anyways...
The Gunners ' sale of Alex Song to Barcelona last summer meant that boss Arsene Wenger's only option was to move Mikel Arteta in to a deeper role, deployed as the most defensive of the Frenchman's midfield trio. Wenger's somewhat risky strategy to effectively convert the Spaniard paid off for the majority of the season - Arteta was one of the North Londoner's most consistent, efficient and effective players. It's no coincidence that Arsenal 's defensive record in 2013 was better than any other team in the Premier League - they secured Champions League qualification over archrivals Spurs via an unbeaten run of 10 games. It seems increasingly likely, however, that Wenger will bring in a ready-made defensive midfielder, along the lines of Etienne Capoue or Victor Wanyama who have both been linked with a move to Emirates in recent weeks which begs the question: what happens to Arteta? When he arrived in North London on deadline day back in 2011, he was tasked with replacing the outgoing Cesc Fabregas. The lon ...
Why Arsenal should beware Wanyama and his loose-lipped former coach Celtic youngster Victor Wanyama has been heavily linked with a possible move to the Premier League since January with Arsenal remaining the likeliest of destinations. The 21-year-old Kenyan midfielder is highly-rated in Scotland after some impressive displays at Parkhead, most notably against Barcelona in Scottish Premier League champions’ sensational 2-1 victory in the Champions League. Meanwhile, down in North London, Arsenal are desperately lacking in physicality in their midfield – the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona, compounded by the perpetual injury woes of Abou Diaby means at present only Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere provide any remote sense of a physical presence, despite their small stature. At 6ft2” tall with great strength and power, Wanyama is exactly the kind of holding midfielder Wenger will be in the market for this summer and whilst he’s not a bargain as such, he won’t break the bank should the Gunners test Cel ...
Arsenal are reportedly readying a summer move for Juventus youngster Paul Pogba, a player Arsene Wenger has made two previous attempts to sign, according to the Daily Mirror. The Gunners boss is known to be an admirer of the rangy midfielder, who has been dubbed the ‘New Patrick Vieira’ and will apparently look to lure the French international to the Emirates Stadium this summer. Pogba may be unsettled in Italy, frequently experiencing racist abuse, and could be tempted by a move to join the North London club. Juventus will apparently demand around £15m for the midfielder, a fee that Arsenal can certainly afford this summer as Arsene Wenger prepares to spend freely to improve his squad. Wenger could well do with a strong presence in the centre of the park as they have not adequately replaced Alex Song, who left for Barcelona last August, with Mikel Arteta having to fill a makeshift holding role for much of the campaign.
Barcelona midfielder lined-up for surprise Arsenal return!! Barcelona midfielder Alex Song could be in line for a surprising return to Arsenal this summer after failing to inspire at Camp Nou. According to a report in the Daily Express, Arsene Wenger could be ready to bring back the man he sold fo £15million last summer. Arsenal have been deploying Mikel Arteta in the defensive midfield role since Song’s departure and many have criticized Gunners boss Wenger for failing to adequately replace the Cameroon international. Song has struggled to break into the starting XI under Tito Vilanova and has drifted further from first team action since the Barça boss went to New York to undergo transfer treatment. The 25-year-old has made just ten appearances in La Liga all season and only three of those have come since the turn of the year. Arsenal are reportedly set to hand Wenger a bumper transfer budget in the summer in a bid to rejuvenate his squad for next season. The Gunners now have a tough task on their ha ...
It‘s very depressing to lose any game, especially at the hands of your local rivals. Ten games to go, a win and you to close the gap with your bitter rival, with a slim chance to progress in the CL, and you lose a game you’re literally dominating in every sense of the word. If Arsene, is still in the Arsenal hot seat next season, l hope will take note of those that have underperformed, let him down and put his own position at the club under the greatest pressure never to forget in his coaching career so far. We have come up short almost every time we have faced a top of the table clash. We continue to fail to raise our performance in big games which worries a lot with only ten games to go. Despite his tendency to drift forward to help in attack, Alex Song, offered a physical strength that we currently lack which means over reliance on Mikel Arteta to perform the holding role, which despite all his good qualities and all that he brings to the the team, he is not a Song like player and will never be des ...
The truth behind Alex Song's departure from Arsenal - AFCAMDEN Alex Song was sold by Arsenal, rather than him leaving being another player 'leaving'. The problem's started last season, when Song became agitated about his contract situation and it started to affect his on-field performance. The management were furious with his lack of defensive discipline and laziness towards the end of last season, in particular after the loss of Mikel Arteta to injury. Song didn't jet off to his summer holidays on best terms with the Arsenal staff. Pre-season began, and Song's Agent (Darren Dein) approached Arsenal for talks over improved terms for his client. Arsenal let Darren Dein know that Song had 3 years remaining and would only be willing to sit down with him once other situations had been sorted. After that, Song's attitude in training became a serious problem. Song had always been a bit flashy and was sometimes late & slow, however he'd now become disruptive and was deemed to not be working hard enough, openly b ...
This. from Jack Wiltshire; Arsene Wenger may be coming under fire from disgruntled Arsenal fans but Jack Wilshere has praised his work in the transfer window. Wenger bought Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud in the summer and Wilshere told Arsenal Player: "It is strange because the last time I played was with Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Robin Van Persie. "Now there's the likes of Podolski, Giroud, Cazorla and Mikel Arteta. The boss has done excellently. He's bought well. These players are proper footballers - they understand the game and they've been around." Is he thick? The replacement players are no way as good as the players that have been sold. He is a great footballer, but wrong about this!!
My take, Van Persie does not deserve all that fuss at Man United. The real credit is to Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia. The same way he was surrounded by Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott and Alex Song.
Behind The Numbers: The season so far With Arsenal 10 games into the season, our statistician Josh James takes a look at various top 10 lists from 2012/13 so far - using Opta stats. MINUTES PLAYED Carl Jenkinson and Mikel Arteta are the only two players to have played every minute of Arsenal's Premier League and Champions League campaigns sofar (810 minutes). Including the Capital One Cup, the Gunners have played 900 minutes of action this season, using 27 different players. This includes six debutants, taking the Club's all-time total of players to represent the first team to 809. The debutants are: Lukas Podolski , Santi Cazorla , Olivier Giroud , Damian Martinez , MartinAngha and Serge Gnabry . Incidentally these six players have also taken the totalnumber of non-British and Irish players to turn out forArsenal to 116. Five players have started all seven league games this term (Jenkinson, Arteta, Cazorla, Kieran Gibbs and Podolski) while just four (Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain , Theo Walcott and Fra ...
Over sabi! Wenger refused to replace Alex Song just because Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshire were coming back and Mikel Arteta is a perfect fit in. In my opinion Arteta did a better job than Song. Now than Abou is out,Arteta is not sure and Jack no ready who handles our DM? Who else on the bench has the needed experience? Wenger just didn't want to spend. And now we are going to pay big if care is not taken(hop its not too late).
By Tom Rostance BBC Sport Arsenal produced a superb first-half display of attacking football to sweep bottom-of-the-table Southampton aside. A Jos Hooiveld own goal opened the scoring before Lukas Podolski arrowed a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner. Gervinho then drilled in, and Nathaniel Clyne buried a second own goal before Danny Fox pulledone back. Gervinho grabbed his second after the break and substitute Theo Walcott then added a late sixth to leave Southampton still looking for their first point. With games against both Manchester clubs and a trip to Emirates Stadium in their first fourgames, life back in the top flight was always going to get off to a tough start for Nigel Adkins' side. The Saints scared Manchester United before the international break, but were simply blown away in an opening 40 minutes here as Arsenal ran riot. Many of the headlines emanating from the Emirates this summer concentrated on the loss of skipper Robin Van Persie and Alex Song, but in Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazo ...
Heard from a reliable source that Alex Song was involved in a bust-up with Mikel Arteta & Steve Bould over his attitude to training
Alex Song is gone, but does anyone care that Arsenal haven't replaced him? Against Liverpool, Mikel Arteta was far better in the "Mikelele Role" than Song could hope to be, Abou Diaby did a very convincing impression of Patrick Vieira and Santi Cazorla is finally filling the place of that Fabregas guy.
cos of course it was Steve Bould sold Alex Song and put Mikel Arteta back there wasn't it. Bought BFG, TV, LK
Diaby: "I am not like Alex Song. We have many players who can take his place like Francis Coquelin or Mikel Arteta..." (1/2)
Mikel Arteta has talked about the new-look Arsenal and admitted they must overcome the 'frustration' of losing two key players. Robin Van Persie and Alex Song have departed.
azorla to score 1st Chris Harris Arsène Wenger is in the market for a defensive midfielder - if the right one is available. The Frenchman sanctioned the sale of Alex Song last weekend and, in his absence, Mikel Arteta played in a deeper role in the 0-0 draw against Sunderland. Wenger has other options to fill that position but he has not ruled out a new recruit before the transfer window closes. "If someone really top, top class comes up… I do not needto buy an average midfielder," said Wenger. "If someone top, top class turns up, completely defensive, we will consider it. "If you look at the numbers you will see that Song was more of an offensive player than a defensive midfielder," he added. "Arteta can play deeper - the kind of Pirlo role- and we have Diaby who is avery strong defensive player. "We have Coquelin who is also doing very well. I've played many games with Diabyand Wilshere [in midfield] and they were very efficient."
Mikel Arteta: Arsenal can survive without Van Persie and Alex Song..
Arsenal vice-captain Mikel Arteta insists the Gunners are in good shape, despite the loss of star striker Robin Van Persie and midfield enforcer Alex Song.
Our new signings can make the difference Mikel Arteta is confident that Arsenal can thrive without Robin Van Persie and Alex Song - especially once their new signings settle in. The Spanish midfielder operated in a deeper midfield role against Sunderland on Saturday in the absence of Song and his passing range and positional awareness helped Arsenal dominate their opening Premier League fixture. Arsène Wenger's side had to settle for a 0-0 draw after squandering their chances but Arteta saw enough to suggest that Arsenal's new-look side will compete for honours this season. "I think we are looking good," he said. "We looked really organised on Saturday, just maybe in the final third we didn't take the chances we should have done. "It will take a while because there have been some new players coming in and we are building a new team. We have lost some important players too so we will need some time. But we wanted to start with a win and that is why we are disappointed. "We know that our new players can ma ...
Mikel Arteta on life after Alex Song and why he thinks Arsenal can thrive this season:
Hey Marouane, consider joining former teammate Mikel Arteta and replacing Alex Song at Top performance today btw! :)
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that Alex Song could be the next player to leave the club, with Barcelona set to seal a move for him. Alex Song PA PhotosAlex Song is apparently keen to discuss a new deal with Arsenal Wenger was unusually open about the possibility of further exits from the Emirates Stadium after Robin Van Persie moved closer to completing a £24 million transfer to Man chester United. Pressed on the subject ahead of Saturday's season opener, Wenger replied: "Both could happen, but my focus is on the Sunderland game. This decision (on Song) is not made." Asked if the Gunners had received a bid, he replied: "No. I cannot tell you more." Wenger suggested he would be open to a sale, given the number of players at his disposal. "Midfield is a different area because we have nine or ten midfielders of top-class quality," he said. "Just today we have six or seven midfielders available, plus Wilshere and Frimpong who are coming back. Diaby is available again, Arteta, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ox ...
Wenger"Thomas Vermaelen is the Captain n Mikel Arteta Vice-Captain.Alex Song is the next move out".
At £15 million it looks likely that Santi Cazorla could prove the shrewdest buy in the league this year. And the departure from Wenger’s usual purchasing philosophy – bringing in young players which he can mould – shows the Frenchman's confidence in his purchase. The 27-year-old slipped seamlessly into the Arsenal side at Koln, with a game that seems perfectly suited to the fluid style with which the Gunners attack. Cazorla stuck in the corner from which Thomas Vermaelen opened the scoring, before creating chances for his team-mates through both hitting the byline himself and dictating play from a deeper role. The Spaniard’s versatility means that he can play a variety of functions for Wenger and the prospect of a midfield three featuring Cazorla, Alex Song and Mikel Arteta (at least until Jack Wilshere's return) should be one that leaves Gunners fans reasonably excited.
Alex Song leaving for BARCA doesn't really interest me in the slightest couldn't care if he went or stayed its all about Mikel Arteta in MF.
only 3 of the lads.. Arteta , Vermaelen and Alex Song.. Mikel was so outgoing :)
See Wenger again o. " Asked whether he was still interested in M'Vila, the 62-year-old told reporters: "No. We wait for Diaby and Wilshere. When he is fit, Diaby is the first name on the French team sheet. “When you look we have Alex Song, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Diaby, Wilshere and Mikel Arteta. "We are not short if Diaby and Wilshere are coming back. If we have setbacks in pre-season, it could be different." *** Arsenal fox
Wouldn't it be lovely if our midfield trio on August 18 Home to Sunderland was: Alex Song, Santi Carzola, Mikel Arteta.
But then do you agree that Alex Song, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta all would flourish in Deep-Lying playmaker?
 border=
Jack Wilshere , Alex Song , Mikel Arteta and Yann M'villa who is ganna be on bench?
could u tell me who had a better season according 2 opta last season between Frank Lampard, Alex Song and Mikel Arteta please?
Admit it, life is better with Alex Song, Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta actually passing the ball to you
Van Persie wins Goal of the Season award Robin Van Persie's sensational match-winning volley against Everton has been voted as Arsenal's goal of the season. The striker latched on to Alex Song's ball over the top before firing past Tim Howard with an exquisite finish. In the Dutchman's 37-goal haul for the season, this was the best of the lot and picked up 49 per cent of the votes cast in our fans' poll. Mikel Arteta's late winner against Manchester City ran in second with 12 per cent of the votes. The midfielder won the ball in midfield before driving forward and planting an unstoppable effort past Joe Hart in the dying moments. In third place we had a tie. Nobody could settle between Van Persie's brilliant equaliser in the 5-2 win over Tottenham or Thierry Henry's fairytale return strike against Leeds. Both goals earned 10 per cent of the votes each.
Arsenal's top assister was not Mikel Arteta, nor Van Persie, or even Theo Walcott - it was Alex Song, who set up 11 goals over the season
Mikel Arteta can't be benched. A shame. Nor can Alex Song nor Tomas Rosicky nor Jack Wilshere (if fit). Selection headache
English giants Arsenal have announced a playing tour for the summer that will see them visit Nigeria, one of their biggest fan bases, on August 5. Star players Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott, Alex Song, and Mikel Arteta are expected among a first-team squad that will come to NIgeria. "In what will be the Gunners’ first match on Nigerian soil, Arsene Wenger’ s side will play at the 60,000 capacity Abuja National Stadium. Arsenal’ s opposition will be confirmed soon and is likely to be a leading African national team," stated a release from the club's communication deparment on Friday. Speculation has been going on about the identity of the opponents with many Nigeria Premier League clubs claiming the right to play against the English team. The Club last visited Africa during a tour to South Africa in July 1993, and is returning as a result of the fantastic support which exists for the team, not only in Nigeria, but across the entire continent. Many Nigerians support the English Premier League club wi ...
I just Cant wait the beginning of next season With Podolsky and Robin Van Persie on the front Mikel Arteta, Alex Song and Thomas Rosicy in the Middle, Plus We are targeting three more top class players Gunners with Do a lot of Damage. Next Season is Our season Arsenal will win at least 3 or four Trophies
Kelly? Surely Richards over Kelly? Mikel Arteta has been better than Alex Song this season, too.
Mikel Arteta and Alex Song have both been a lot better than Scott Parker this year! How he got in team of the year,I don't know?!
7 things learnt from Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City 1) Manchester City’s title challenge is all but over. Mikel Arteta may have putthe final nail in the coffin, but Mario Balotelli was equally instrumental in his sides downfall. It is looking increasingly likely that Manchester United will clinch their 12th league title at Eastlands in three weeks time. 2) Mario Balotelli will not play for Manchester City again. Mario shouldhave received multiple red-cards inhis disgusting display against Arsenal. His challenge on Alex Song was awful and he has created a huge amount of tension in the City dressing room. The hapless Italian was eventually sent off shortly after Mikel Arteta’s goal and will subsequently serve at 1-match ban. However, you imagine that a few games will be added to that once the FA look at his tackle onSong. Mancini also seemed to be suggesting that he wouldn’t play him forthe remaining 6 games of the season anyway. 3) Roberto Mancini will be looking for another job at the end of the season ...
Alex Song took more touches and made more passes than Mikel Arteta. Is that a first?
