Reminder for those that think the Pro Bowl is significant: Alex Smith was a Pro Bowler last season. Yes, that Alex Smith.
The following information is why no one should ever listen to Mel Kiper or Todd Mcshay concerning the NFL DRAFT. Just a couple of pundits when it comes to football. A great deal of Mel Kiper Jr.'s problems with consistency have been with the quarterback position. For starters he said the following were all can't miss franchise quarterbacks: Alex Smith, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Andre Ware and Jeff George. He said that Akili Smith was a better prospect than Culpepper or McNabb. He also said that Ryan Leaf had the right "attitude" to give him an advantage over Peyton Manning. Then you have the whole Jay Cutler scenario where he felt that Cutler was the most overhyped player in the draft and nowhere near as good as Matt Leinart or Vince Young. Here we are three seasons later and Jay Cutler threw for over 4,500 yards and made a Pro Bowl last season while Leinart and Young watched from the sidelines.
Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Eli Manning and Russell Wilson – the 49ers will face four different Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. Outside of those top passers, San Francisco will have the task of stopping well-known, Pro Bowl-caliber quarterbacks like Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, Carson Palmer, Nick Foles, Alex Smith, Robert Griffin III and Philip Rivers. The 49ers new-look secondary will surely be tested
Alex Smith and Vince Young have made the Pro Bowl, might be time to rephrase that metric.
Patriots QB Tom Brady to be replaced in Pro Bowl by Chiefs QB Alex Smith...
Congratulations to QB Alex Smith, who will replace Patriots QB Tom Brady in the 2014 Pro Bowl, the league announ…
Are the Chiefs real or opportunistic? ESPN: October 29, 2013 They've gone from worst to first. Kansas City, laughingstock of 2012, is the sole undefeated remaining in 2013. But are the Chiefs for real? There is a lot to like. Kansas City leads the league in defense against points, allowing just 12.3 per game -- better than last season's leader, Seattle, which allowed 15.3 per game. The Chiefs are a league-best plus-12 for turnovers, and are first in sacks. Stretching back to his time in San Francisco, quarterback Alex Smith hasn't lost a game as the starter in more than a year. There is athletic talent aplenty, including five Chiefs elected to the 2012 Pro Bowl (and a sixth added later), and Eric Fisher, the No. 1 choice of the 2013 draft. By winning six more games than the previous season, Kansas City is already in the annals of turnarounds of teams that finished 1-15 or 2-14. The 1980 Lions won seven more games than the 1979 Lions; the 1992 Colts and 1997 Jets won eight more games than their prior years ...

AROUND THE LEAGUE Offseason Forecast: San Francisco 49ers By Gregg Rosenthal Published: February 25, 2013 at 12:53 PM Modified: February 25, 2013 at 3:17 PM With the offseason officially under way, Around the League will examine what's next for all 32 teams. The series continues with the San Francisco 49ers WHAT'S CHANGING The backup quarterback (Alex Smith) is getting all of the attention, but the NFC champions have plenty of big decisions to make. Trading Smith is the first step. The 49ers don't stand pat schematically from year to year and need to tweak their offense for Colin Kaepernick's first full season as a starting quarterback. David Akers, Parys Haralson and possibly Carlos Rogers are candidates to be released. The secondary needs to be fixed. BIGGEST FREE AGENTS » S Dashon Goldson: It's no sure thing that the 49ers will use the franchise tag on Goldson again. Despite his Pro Bowl nod, there are some concerns about Goldson's tendency to give up big plays. » TE Delanie Walker: He's so much more ...
Alex Smith seemed headed to his first Pro Bowl three months ago. That was before a concussion derailed his season and, in all likelihood, put his career on a new track. Though Smith has sacrificed quite a bit,
Sure wish the Super Bowl was this Sunday instead of next week. Another week of hyping up the game by making nothing stories into something. Most infamous was the unfortunate reporter who, back in the late 80's asked Washington Redskin Doug Williams "So how long have you been a black quarterback." This week it's backup 49er quarterback Alex Smith saying he's rooting for his teammate starter Colin Kaepernick. Wow! What's he going to say "I hope Colin singlehandedly loses the game"? This is what happens with the 2 week hype instead of the normal one. The non contact Pro Bowl from Hawaii is on this Sunday.
I'm glad Andy Reid caught on so quickly. Will be weird having to be a KC fan now. I hope they can get Alex Smith there. He was playing Pro Bowl level ball when he got screwed. I think he'd be an awesome fit there.
BREAKING: In recognition of his elite performance, QB Alex Smith has made the Pro Bowl for the NFC, will be starting clipboard holder
Pretty stupid of the 49ers to bench Alex Smith who was having an Pro Bowl like season for a young QB with 1 good start, John Harbaugh is a great coach, but this is stupid
Today I voted for Alex Smith to make the Pro Bowl. Get out and vote ya'll!!!
Alex Smith ranks among the NFC's best quarterbacks so far in the 2012 season. Vote for him and your other favorite 49ers to reach the 2013 Pro Bowl:
I'm a huge 49ers fan, but there's no way in heck I would vote for Alex Smith for the Pro Bowl. He *** !
Alex Smith is among the NFC's top QBs so far in 2012. to put your favorite players in the 2013 Pro Bowl:
Jamie Dukes joins "Around the League" to discuss the maturation of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. Is Dukes ready to call Smith a Pro Bowl quarterback?
San Francisco's stingy defense denied Matthew Stafford another milestone, Vernon Davis caught touchdown passes of 21 and 23 yards from Alex Smith, and the 49ers beat the Detroit Lions 27-19 on Sunday night in a September showdown of NFC powers.
Alex Smith will make the pro bowl this year. Im calling it now!
Alex Smith looking like a pro bowl quarterback
Most of the talk following the 49ers' win in Green Bay centered around Alex Smith's play and the defense. Frank Gore quietly rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown. It's no wonder why Anthony Dixon saluted Gore's effort.
Plus he rushed for more yards than any rookie QB ever to top it all off this guy made it to the Pro Bowl all that in just his rookie season Alex Smith i wouldn't be talking trash about anybody if i were you because The 49er was ready to give up on you last year if you had another bust season Cam Newton did what you couldn't do as a QB in 1year how long did it take you 7 i wouldn't be running my mouth after not even making the top100 players list and that's after a 13-3 season.
So Alex Smith took a shot at Cam Newton because he didnt go to the Pro Bowl..Man I hope we see them in the playoffs
I couldn't believe it when I read today that TO would like to finish his career as a 49er. Uh Terrell... I think your career is already over. Even the Raiders don't seem interested... and Carson Palmer was the last QB who he teamed up with and had a fair amount of success in 2010. Now we seem to have an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver. But the one guy I think may put us over the top and finally make Alex Smith a Pro Bowl calibre QB is Mario Manningham. He certainly made Eli Manning look good in the Super Bowl. Anyway it's fun to see them all come out of the woodwork again now that our team has gained sudden respectability. Lot's of luck TO... but you are no Jerry Rice. Beyond that... this is from a fairly interesting column that I read today: Some of the post-draft grades were ridiculous. Some gave the Niners a C or C- because they drafted a relatively unknown receiver in the first round and a smallish back out of Oregon in the second. What they don’t realize is that, in assembling the ...
Alex Smith making the pro bowl this year...not that the pro bowl actually matters anymore
don't get me wrong he will mos deff be a pro bowl qb within the next 3yrs but the 49ers are coo with Alex Smith
