Looking at the Rays, Alex Cobb has to become the ace of the pitching staff.
Alright ladies and gentlemen this is how the trade went... The 2014 trade deadline has been capped off by a three-team blockbuster involving a former Cy Young Award winner. Here are the details, courtesy of our own Jon Heyman: - Tigers get LHP David Price. - Mariners get OF Austin Jackson. - Rays get LHP Drew Smyly, IF Nick Franklin and minor-league SS Willy Adames. There could still be other pieces involved in the trade, though Heyman says Austin and Franklin is Seattle's only involvement. The 28-year-old Price, who long ago established himself as one of the best starting pitchers in all of baseball, has this season pitched to a 3.11 ERA (121 ERA+) in an MLB-leading 23 starts, and he's also logged a stellar K/BB ratio of 8.22. For his career, the former top overall pick has a 122 ERA+ and 3.45 K/BB ratio across parts of seven big-league seasons. Price, a four-time All-Star, won the AL Cy Young award in 2012 and finished second in the balloting in 2010. The lefty Price is owed the balance of a $14-million ...

mass of clubs bunched together around the .500 mark in the American League this year means that even 40 percent of the season schedule is not nearly enough to draw many meaningful conclusions out of what we've seen so far. The Tampa Bay Rays, though, are an exception. Saddled with a 24-42 record, the Rays are 15 games back in the AL East, 11 games (and nine teams) away from the second Wild Card, with a minus-55 run differential that is tied for the worst in the Majors. They give even the most optimistic of souls little reason to believe they're about to turn things around. And I should know: I was the optimistic soul who picked them to win the World Series. Oops. In my defense, that was before Matt Moore and Alex Cobb joined Jeremy Hellickson on the disabled list, ravaging what looked to be an all-world rotation. That was before new closer Grant Balfourposted a 6.46 ERA and got ousted from the role. That was before Evan Longoria and Wil Myersgot off to sluggish starts, and before Myers and his ominous .66 ...
6/6 THE DAILY FANTASY BASEBALL REPORT By Tony DeMarco (Baseball Expert) At no time through the first two-plus months of this season have there been as many streaking teams. No fewer than seven are in the midst of consecutive-game streaks of at least five games -- some positive, and some not-so-positive (ahem, Rays). So let's concentrate on them: Tampa Bay Rays -- Streak: 10 Losses The last time the Rays won a game, Joe Maddon's hair hadn't gone all Sparky Anderson yet. Just kidding, but it has been awhile -- May 26 to be exact. The Rays sit at 23-38, 14 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East -- and get this, three games worse than the Houston Astros for the AL's worst record. Wha happened? In a nutshell, a middling offense hasn't been able to compensate for injuries to SPs Alex Cobb (he's back now), Matt Moore and Jeremy Hellickson; David Price has picked a really bad time to drop from the elite ranks; and the bullpen has suffered from overuse. And since we're in the midst of the draft, it must be ment ...

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Cobb spun seven scoreless innings to guide the Tampa Bay Rays to a 1-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the middle test of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park.Cobb (1-1) scattered four hits and fanned five to earn his first win of the season. Cobb hasn't allowed a run over his last 15 innings.James Loney provided the game's lone run with a leadoff homer in the second inning to help the Rays win for the third time in four games.Grant Balfour put the potential game-tying run on in the ninth, but got a game-ending double-play to nail down his fourth save of the season.Tampa Bay has scored just nine runs over its last six games.Alfredo Simon (1-1) was the hard-luck loser, allowing Loney's homer among five hits over eight innings. He struck out four and walked just one in the setback.Cincinnati went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position, and is just 1-for-11 with RISP over its last two games."There are going to be times this year when we're clicking and our ...

The Boston Red Sox are playing tomorrow night at 6 pm on tbs in the third game of the ALDS. The pitching matchup is Clay Buchholz vs Alex Cobb.
Rays Starter David Price Pitched Deep into Game 2 of the ALDS. Going 7 Innings. But He Gave up 9 Hits and 9 Hits and 7 Runs. Red Sox DH David Ortiz went Deep Twice hitting Two Solo Homers. Jacoby Ellsbury had 3 Hits and a RBI. Dustin Perdroia had a Hit but 3 RBI's. In all Boston got 11 Hits. The Rays scored 4 Runs on a Delmon Young Sac Fly, a James Loney Two RBI Double, and a RBI Gound Out by Yunel Escobar. But the Red Sox Won 7-4 with John Lackey getting the Win and Koji Uehara getting the Save. Red Sox now have the Tampa Bay Rays in a Major Hole. Up 2-0 in this ALDS Series. Game 3 will be Late Monday Afternoon at the Trop in Tampa. It will be Clay Buchholz for the Red Sox versus Alex Cobb for the Rays. Rays need to Win to stay Alive. Red Sox will be Looking to Advance to the American League Championship Series.
The Tampa Bay have become the definition of "Road Warriors" over the last week. Last weekend, they won in Toronto to force a one game play-in at Texas for second Wild Card spot. Monday, in David Price went the distance in sending the Rays, to Cleveland for the next challenge. Wednesday, in the AL Game, Alex Cobb's pitching and a homer by Delmon Young and a double by Desmond Jennings, enabled the Rays to beat the Now Tampa has reached series play and open up again on the road. Two seasons ago, the were beleaguered by a scandal which sounds like a Ludacris album. Chicken and beer were rumored to be ate and drank by players, during a historic collapse in the AL Wild Card chase in 2011. Terry Francona was let go and the team was overhauled. Last season, was a lost year under Bobby Valentine and he was let go of in favor of former pitching coach, John Farrell. Fast forward to the present and now the Bo Sox are the best team in the majors and back in the playoffs, hoping to recapture the championship glory from ...
A breakdown of the Red Sox against the Rays: STARTING PITCHERS Red Sox: Jon Lester, John Lackey, Clay Buchholz, Jake Peavy. Rays: David Price, Matt Moore, Alex Cobb, Chris Archer. Edge: Rays. The Red Sox have experience, the Rays youth. Price had a 2.48 ERA in five starts against the Red Sox, better than Lester's 4.32 in four starts against the Rays. That was skewed by one bad start, however. Moore had a shutout against the Sox on July 22. Lackey was better in the first half than the second but is strong at Fenway. Buchholz's start in Game 3 could be the difference. If the teams split the first two games, the Sox will need Buchholz to pitch like the All-Star he was in April, May and June at Tropicana Field in Game 3. He has thrown 13 shutout innings against the Rays this season. PRIMARY RELIEVERS Red Sox: Koji Uehjara, Junichi Tazawa, Craig Breslow, Ryan Dempster. Rays: Fernando Rodney, Joel Peralta, Jake McGee, James Wright. Edge: Red Sox by a lot. Joe Maddon doesn't trust his bullpen, he showed that in ...

Rays Win!!! 4-0 The Rays have won essentially their 3rd consecutive elimination game by downing the Cleveland Indians, in Cleveland, in the American League Wild Card Playoff Game. Ray’s starter Alex Cobb led the way with a hard fought victory, shutting out the Indians by pitching in and out of trouble for 6 2/3 innings. Peralta, who relieved Cobb, got Swisher on a huge strikeout stranding 2 runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th inning. The rested bullpen, thanks in part to David Price’s gem against Texas, closed the door to finish the game, as Rodney got the final 3 outs in a non-save situation. Delmon Young started the scoring when he launched the Rays first hit for a solo homerun, in the 3rd inning, giving the good guys a lead they would not relinquish. The big hit came when Desmond Jennings hit a double with 2 outs to drive in 2 runs, in the top of the 4th inning, which gave the Rays a 3-0 lead and silenced the raucous Cleveland crowd at the same time. The Rays would add another ...

Playoff chase: AL wild-card race tangled ESPN: September 22, 2013 The AL wild-card race is still jumbled after the top contenders all won. In the NL Central, St. Louis is holding off the Pirates and Reds. A quick look at baseball's playoff picture: TANGLED TEAMS: Alex Cobb's win kept Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card lead, a half-game ahead of Cleveland. Texas is another half-game behind, with the Yankees trailing the Indians by three games. CENTRAL CASTING: The division-leading Cardinals seem content to let Pittsburgh and Cincinnati duel for the two NL wild-card spots. The Pirates are two games back, the Reds are three out. In a key matchup Sunday at PNC Park, Jeff Locke (10-6, 3.27 ERA) starts for the Bucs against Bronson Arroyo (13-11, 3.56). MAGIC MATH: Oakland, Atlanta and Detroit can all clinch division titles Sunday. Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers cut their magic number to win the AL Central to two, rallying for six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and then beating the White Sox in the 12th Saturd ...
Tampa Bay Rays playing the Texas Rangers at home at the Trop and they take the first game of a four game series beating the Rangers 6-2! That was Rays baseball! Great starting pitching from Alex Cobb (8 IP 6 H 2 ER 1 BB 10 K's), fantastic defense and outstanding plays made by the infielders and making catches by the outfielders, and the offense managed to wake up and knock out 12 hits (the 1-6 hitters go 11 for 24 knocking in five RBIs)! Wil Myers had a great night going 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs (almost had three home runs tonight). Everybody contributed well and they beat the former Ray Matt Garza. Nice way to kick off the homestand!

Today is a off day for the Boston Red Sox. But they will be back in action Tuesday night as they head down from New York to St. Petersburg Florida to take the the Tampa Bay Rays for a important 3 game series. Clay Buchholz Is back on the mound for Boston as he gets the ball for the first game. Ryan Dempster 2nd game and Peavy 3rd. Rays sits in 2nd place of the AL East standing trailing Boston by 7.5 games. So this series is clearly more important to them then it is for us. They will be sending out there top aces this series starting with David Price on game 1, Alex Cobb game 2, and Jeremy Hellickson for game 3. Should be a fun series.

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Alex Cobb, hit in the head by a ball in June, hasn't ruled out pitching again in the next month.Cobb, struck in the right ear by a liner hit by Kansas City's Eric Hosmer on June 15, threw off a mound for the second time since being hurt before Monday night's game against Minnesota."The timeline is, obviously, getting shorter for me and that's exciting," Cobb said. "Hopefully early August, maybe end of this month would be a pretty nice expectation. Right now, I am trying to get there as soon as possible."Cobb is scheduled to have another bullpen session Thursday and hopes to face hitters soon after that."I'm pushing them to let me do it," Cobb said. "I'm trying to speed up this process as much as I can now that I feel good."Cobb had his initial mound session last Friday. His first time against hitters will have him throwing from behind a protective screen, a regular practice for injured pitchers.

I have been enjoying looking at photos, but I suppose I need to break down and do laundry so I have something clean to pack tomorrow for GCLS. It's going to be hotter in Dallas than here. Grr. If you go somewhere in the summer that is hotter than Florida, you should have your head examined. I mean, really. Good thing I should be able to stay inside the hotel most of the time. I hope there is a decent restaurant in the hotel. :O Either that or I'll have to plan to eat dinner at 10 pm when the temps should be down to the Purgatory setting.

I just witnessed a god awful thing. I was riding up South Cobb Drive about to cross a bridge when I spotted a tiny kitten being blown about the road, it looked like maybe it's leg had been run over, struggling to get out of it's predicament. I was in my motorhome, it's not a whip around vehicle. By the time I could turn around it would surely be squashed... so I stopped hoping to slow traffic to where somebody else would rescue the critter...I lost site in the mirrors and backup camera, and rolled on, I called by friend Alex Mionie to come out and go back to where it was in his car. When he got there, there was no flat kitten, but no kitten on the side of the road either... I'm going to hope for the best and think that maybe some decent soul rescued that kitten.
Hampton and I are spending the morning with Melanie Cole & Alex at the Cobb County Animal shelter. They are having an Art Show to benefit the animals today. I'm going to give some special animals all the love I can today Verse of the Day: Proverbs 12:10 The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. NIV
Congratulations Saraland for your victory against Fairhope tonight!! I was really proud of that great hit Alex Domingue got even though he cracked his Marucci bat... Oh well at least he got a base hit;) Keep it up guys you looked great!!!
WORST GEEK SQUAD EXPERIENCE...THEY THINK I'M STUPID OR SOMETHING: One of my laptops that I bought last July I had upgraded from windows 7 to Windows 8 had problems after the upgrade since I installed it when Windows 8 first came out. The monitor stays blank and I have to use a computer monitor to look at the screen. I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad in December (where I bought the laptop from) and they looked at it. They said that Windows 8 isn't compatible with the video card and I would need to wait till Microsoft comes out with a driver to fix that problem. Well, I've been putting up with it all this time and took it to Geek Squad today to see if they could fix the problem or find out about the driver. Without looking at the problem, Geek Squad said that they would have to wipe the laptop and install Windows 7 back to the original condition of the laptop. I told them I PAID for an upgrade and now they want to downgrade it so I will need my money back for the useless upgrade. They said I would ha ...

MEDICAL UPDATE: FOR ALEX LOVETT, THURSDAY 06-20-2013 DAY 282 CONDITION: GOOD, Level 5 on the Rancho Los Amigos Scale VISITORS: YES TO VISITORS, BUT PLEASE NO ONE THAT IS EVEN A LITTLE SICK Location: HOME 74 HIBBERD DR. Room: ALEX’S Alex had an easy relaxing day, still has the headache he seems to have all the time. His headaches are not as bad as they were. Alex is still drinking thin liquids, but mainly thickened liquids; I thought we were on a very good roll there. Tonight we had the chicken and corn on the cobb, Alex liked it. Yesterday he said “ then tomorrow night I want pizza.” To his dismay he was told no that he was having chicken and corn on the cob. When you ask Alex if he wants this and that, he says if it tastes good of course. Since his memory is not full he does not remember the foods and their tastes. Well we were out at a neighbor ladies house repairing an outside hose Bibb or faucet. We had to run to Lowes to get one and he was harping that he had $10.00 and wanted to buy Pizza Hut ...

ROCKNE: Well, boys ... I haven't a thing to say. Played a great game...all of you. Great game. (He tries to smile.) I guess we just can't expect to win ‘em all. (Rockne pauses and says quietly). I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years -- None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your time. But you know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame... (There is gentle, faraway look in his eyes as he recalls the boy's words). And the last thing he said to me -- "Rock," he said - "sometime, when the team is up against it -- and the breaks are beating the boys -- tell them to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper... (Knute's eyes become misty and his voice is unsteady as he finishes). I don't know where I'll be then, Rock", he said - "but I'll know about it - and I'll be happy." There is a hushed stillness as Rockne and the crowd of boys look at each other. In the midst of this tense silence, Rockne quietly says "Alright," to the men beside him, and ...

All through the minor leagues, Alex Cobb was never considered too much of a prospect. He pitched very well, but he had only great pitch, his split-change, to go along with a solid fastball that hovered around 90 MPH and a mediocre curveball. But then Jeff Niemann‘s back injury and Andy Sonnanstine‘s...

Day One of the Wil Myers era is over. Unfortunately, he didn’t exactly light the world on fire, going just 1 for 7. Even as he struggled, though, Joe Maddon was confident that good things are ahead. “He’s going to be fine,” Maddon said. “We just have to get him out there and settled down. [...]

Cardinals cruise past Marlins in MLB The National League Central-leaders, the St Louis Cardinals, have thumped Major League Baseball's bottom side, the Miami Marlins, 13-7. In a thrilling start to Saturday's game, St Louis and Miami combined for nine runs in the first inning and 12 by the start of the third but the Cardinals wrapped up the victory with four runs in the last two innings, including a 366-foot homer from Carlos Beltran. Beltran scored two home runs at Miami's Marlins Park as the Cardinals picked up their fourth victory in six matches, extending their lead in the NL Central to 3.5 wins over the Cincinnati Reds, who were thrashed 6-0 by the Milwaukee Brewers. Miami remain bottom of the NL Central as well as the MLB with just 20 wins from 67 games this season. At the top of the first inning, St Louis scored five runs but the hosts pegged all but one back by the start of the second as both sides started with a flurry. Beltran's first home run followed at the top of the second inning but the Marl ...

Just as bad as Thursday was today was a good day. We were late for the game and just happened to walk in the same time as my brother. Alex Cobb got hit which was absolutely awful but it was a miracle said he it was just a concussion. Spontaneously got last minute tickets to Cesar Millan. Bought a book and program and said to Tim wish it was a signed one. I said let's see if we can find him and We DID. Since my bro knew we were leaving early he texts me to tell me he won a VIP tour of Tropicana Field. Will we get to throw out a pitch. Who knows. I had my head down praying for Alex for ten minutes and all good fell into place. God is so Faithful.
Thought's go out to Alex Cobb- that's one of the scariest things in sports.
