Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has conceded that his side are still doing "very bad things" despite beating Newcastle.United remain 10 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea following the 3-1 win over Alan Pardew's men at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, with Van Gaal's side ultimately easing to victory. Wayne Rooney, playing from a midfield role, scored twice for the hosts, with Robin Van Persie netting the other as United recorded their seventh win from their last eight Premier League games. Substitute Papiss Cisse converted a late penalty after Phil Jones had tripped Jack Colback and, although that proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Newcastle, Van Gaal feels his men are still doing a lot wrong. He told BT Sport: "We make progress in every game, but we are also doing very bad things in every game. "We have to improve that. But I am satisfied because we are dominating most of our games, not always winning, but that is coming." Despite the 10-point gap behind leaders Chelsea, cap ...

Newcastle United put on keeper alert Newcastle United could attempt to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan – after Rob Elliot joined Tim Krul on the sidelines. Elliot suffered a thigh injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Chelsea at St James’s Park. And 21-year-old Jak Alnwick came off the bench for the second half. United manager Alan Pardew revealed after the game that Alnwick would be in goal for Saturday’s game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. However, if a scan on Elliot’s thigh reveals significant damage, the club could ask the Premier League if it could take a goalkeeper on an emergency loan – or sign a free agent. Manchester City signed Marton Fulop on a temporary deal from Sunderland in similar circumstances four and a half years ago. League regulations allow such a move outside the transfer window in “exceptional circumstances”. “I’ll have a scan on Monday and hope for the best,” Elliot told the Gazette. “Fingers crossed I won’t be out for ...

Brendan Rodgers stated Liverpool lost as a team in their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday and refused to single out Mario Balotelli for criticism. Balotelli has been under constant scrutiny since his £16 million-move from AC Milan last summer and the Italian is still yet to score a Premier League goal for his new club. Rodgers has already defended Balotelli's contribution, as has Steven Gerrard, and the manager was in no mood to speak solely on the forward's plight following the defeat at St James' Park, in which Ayoze Perez scored the only goal for Alan Pardew's side. "It's not about Mario it's about the team," Rodgers told BT Sport. "We've lost a game today, we collectively lost as a team. We have to go back and analyse it and move on. "The progress this season was always going to be a slow process because there were so many changes and we haven't started as we would like but we will improve. It's been difficult period. "They are essential to us and our doctor has looked into the problems that might arise and also protection for them, and to make sure we do our very best to help them." Whether or not the finals go ahead in Morocco as planned remains to be seen, but Newcastle will maintain a watching brief as those discussions continue. Pardew said: "That's something that will play out as we go along. That kind of decision is a big, big one and I'm sure the countries will make that rather than club managers. It's now six league games without a win and only the thinnest of margins keeps Alan Pardew's side off the bottom of the Premier League as the rain and misery poured on the hapless manager at the Britannia Stadium on Monday night. A watching Mike Ashley looked less than impressed and while many tried to read his lips at the end of the match, his pre-match quotes were as damning as the poor performance on the pitch, as Pardew's future remains in severe doubt. Once again the verdict from the away end was less than positive and while many voiced their discontent the silence of others was also deafening for the manager who seems to have lost the confidence of players and fans. A 15th minute header from Peter Crouch was enough to decide the contest and although the visitors wore new shirts, old failings meant United lost on this ground for the third successive season. It was the same result as our last visit to the Britannia Stadium and again it was a cross from the left in front of the away fans that did the d ...
FULL TIME : Stoke City 1 - O Newcastle United The Magpies' woes continued at the Britannia Stadium as they succumbed to another defeat which keeps them in 19th place in the table and ramps up the pressure on their manager. Peter Crouch heaped further misery on Alan Pardew as his header gave Stoke City a 1-0 win over Newcastle on Monday and extended the Magpies' wait for a first Premier League win of the new season. The lead-up to the Britannia Stadium clash had been dominated by controversy over comments from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley indicating that Pardew would be sacked if they lost to Stoke. A legal representative for Ashley later insisted that the remarks were made in jest, but he now has a decision to make after watching another lifeless performance which leaves Newcastle still awaiting their first league victory of the season. The visitors enjoyed plenty of possession in wet Staffordshire conditions but their failure to create clear-cut chances was punished by Crouch. The 33-year-old striker hit ...
Stoke beats Newcastle 1-0 in Premier League Peter Crouch headed in the only goal as Stoke beat Newcastle 1-0 for its first home victory of the season in the Premier League, ratcheting up the pressure on visiting manager Alan Pardew. Crouch rose above Fabricio Coloccini to head in a cross from Victor Moses in the 15th minute, which proved enough against a Newcastle side that struggled to create scoring chances and remained without a win this season. Moses was lively throughout at a rain-drenched Britannia Stadium and appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty when he was pushed down in the area by Yoan Gouffran shortly afterward. Substitute Marko Arnautovic hit the post for Stoke early in the second half. Jack Colback came closest to equalizing when he hit the crossbar from close range late on. Newcastle is second from bottom with three points from six games and has won only once in 14 top-flight games stretching back to last season, with 10 of those being losses. Stoke climbed to 11th place with eight points. ...

Arsenal stun Villa 3-0 Arsenal stopped Aston Villa going top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win on Saturday. Villa had conceded just one league goal in their previous four league matches but all that changed as Arsenal fired in three inside four minutes at Villa Park. The much-criticisedMesut Ozil put the Gunners in front in the 32nd minute and former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck scored his first Arsenal goal two minutes later before Villa’s Aly Cissokho turned the ball into his own net. Meanwhile Newcastle moved off the bottom of the table and eased the pressure on under-fire manager Alan Pardew by coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Hull, with substitute Papiss Cisse scoring both the Magpies’ goals. Southampton won 1-0 away to a Swansea side who had to play more than half the match a man down after Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony was sent off. News: Newcastle are still waiting for their first goal of the new Premier League season after being forced to settle for a lackl tre 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday. Magpies' boss Alan Pardew tried to perk up his shot-shy attack with a series of pre-season signings, but his new boys have yet to find their form. They wasted several chances in a 2-0 defeat against champions Manchester City last weekend and created little threat this time in a tame enco ter at rain-lashed Villa Park. Pardew sees positives in loss Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admitted that a 2-0 defeat was tough to take after an encouraging performance against Manchester City. Goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero secured victory for the Premier League champions at St James' Park, but it was an evenly contested encounter. While Newcastle did not carve out many good chances, they put City under pressure at times and there were good displays from summer signings Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere. Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez also impressed as substitutes and Pardew was disappointed not to take anything from the match, but had plenty of reasons to be positive. He told Sky Sports: "It was frustrating for us because in the second half we really pushed on up and put some younger players on, who were a bit naive at times but who threatened with their pace. We just couldn't get that equaliser. "I feel that if we could have got that then we could have gone on to win it because we looked li ...
Alan Pardew compared Newcastle United new boy Remy Cabella to Manchester City's stars following his team's 2-0 defeat to the champions. Cabella was superb in his Premier League debut at St James' Park on Sunday, as Newcastle competed well with City. The France international, who joined from Montpellier last month, posed a constant threat in a game the visitors won thanks to goals in each half from David Silva and Sergio Aguero. And Cabella's efforts did not go un-noticed, with Newcastle boss Pardew lauding him and fellow debutant Jack Colback.
Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew hopes this season will see him start to pay owner Mike Ashley back for his support. Pardew has been well-supported in the transfer market this summer, bringing in nine new players, although Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow were loaned straight back to Nottingham Forest. Alan Pardew was overwhelmed by the level of support Newcastle United received on their pre-season tour of New Zealand. The Magpies are currently flying back to Tyneside, having won the Football United Tour 2014 with victories over A-League outfits Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix. Thousands of fans turned out at both matches, as well as a number of community events across the cities of Dunedin and Wellington, and Pardew was taken aback by what they experienced. "It makes you realise the power of the Premier League," the manager told nufc.co.uk . "The welcome, the support and the enthusiasm from the people of New Zealand has been fantastic, and hopefully we can replicate that for the first game of the season at St. James' Park against Manchester City. "It really helps the team, and I thank the people over here for their support, because it's been brilliant." United's trip to the southern hemisphere was made in sadness, however, following the news that two fans - John Alder and Liam Sweeney - were involved ...

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes that moves from Liverpool and Manchester United to snap up Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw for big fees are bad news for other clubs. The Southampton duo have both signed for the Premier League giants for fees of over £25m in the past few days to join the list of English players to have swapped teams for massive figures in recent seasons. Andy Carroll has long been hailed as the prime example of such affairs, with Liverpool having paid £35m to take him to Anfield in 2011, while a number of other Three Lions stars in the past have also commanded big figures. Pardew believes that the actions of the bigger sides are bad for the likes of Newcastle, who are being priced out of bidding for talented Englishman: “The fees being paid for players such as Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, illustrate an important point that supporters need to understand,” he is quoted by The Express. “Clubs like Newcastle get accused of not signing English players, but these are prices mid-table te ...
Ayoze Perez could end Newcastle’s hunt for a goalscorer :/ Alan Pardew has been on the search all summer for a striker, but has revealed today that Ayoze Perez, a summer signing from Tenerife, could be the answer to his problems. Perez was thought to have been brought in as a player for future seasons, but Pardew believes the Spaniard could have a part to play in the upcoming campaign. The 20-year-old has not played much first-team football in his career so far, but still did enough to convince Newcastle to part with £1.8 million to sign him and Pardew is keen to test him out in the Premier League. “He’s slight, and has a bit of work to do in terms of his body and getting up to speed in the Premier League,” Pardew explained to the Gazette. “But he’s a fantastic talent. He’s scored a lot of goals, and we have high hopes for him. “We hope he has a breakthrough season for us.”
NEWS: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been told by Borussia Dortmund he is now free to leave the club, with the player thinking of switching the Bundesliga for the Premier League. Indeed, Chelsea and Newcastle have set their eyes on the 24-year-old striker for a quite a long time, with Mourinho having tried to persuade the player to move to Stamford Bridge already in May. The Special One was told that the French was not on the market but Borussia seem to have changed their mind, being unhappy with the player’s performance during last season despite him having made 41 appearances and scored 14 goals. The player moved to the German club from St.Etienne last summer, signing until 2018. According to the Express, his buy-back clause is believed to be of just over £6million and such a news has re-ignited Newcastle’s interest. After failing to sign Loic Remy permanently, Alan Pardew thinks Aubameyang might be the right man for the Magpies attack. -Aaron
Newcastle United are weighing up an £8m swoop for Leeds United hotshot Ross Mccormack. The Magpies are desperate to add to their strikeforce this summer, and have targeted McCormack as potential option. The 27-year-old finished last season as the Championship’s leading scorer with 29 goals after the best campaign of his career. But he is keen to try his hand in the Premier League, and is understood to have told Leeds that he wants to leave after being unhappy with the Yorkshire club’s treatment of former manager Brian McDermott, who was sacked last month. West Ham United, Celtic and Leicester have been linked with the Scotland international, who is under contract until 2017. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to keep a British feel to his squad’s recruitment this summer, and has been linked with moves for English internationals Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend and Micah Richards. Since then, both teams have experienced contrasting fortunes: Brendan Rodgers has led his team from a seventh-place finish to being within reach of the title, while Alan Pardew has seen his future publicly questioned by the Geordie faithful. And while the Liverpool fans at Anfield will be looking to give their her ...

There have been 10 Premier League managerial changes since the start of this season. That compares to eight changes in the Top Flight in 2012-13, 10 in 2011-12, 13 in 2010-11 and nine in 2009-10. In the first Premier League season there were only six changes of manager Whose next?.West Ham's Sam Allardyce perhaps, or Newcastle's Alan Pardew?
Arsene Wenger. Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce. The 3 longest serving managers in the Premier League ( currently ). Not sure how Arsenals fan feel about Arsene, but I know the other 2 are not wanted anymore.
Sam Allardyce has told unhappy Hammers fans he will not change his style because football is only about results. Big Sam has previously dismissed the “West Ham way” as “not winning” and a “delusion”. After the Irons were booed off Upton Park on Saturday following a third consecutive defeat , Allardyce now insists he uses “the team in the right way” and claims he always ignores criticism of his side’s playing style. “If I allow that to affect me, I might as well pack my bags and walk away,” he said. Allardyce has led West Ham back into the Premier League and is one win away from keeping them there with the move to the Olympic Stadium fast approaching in 2016. And in the week David Moyes was sacked at Manchester United , he stated: “It all boils down to one thing in the end. “Whatever anyone says, results are, in the end, the only thing that matters. The bosses have just proven that by doing what they have done to David Moyes. “Is it different at West Ham? No. I can’t understan ...
Arsenal boss set to move for Remy after expressing admiration for Newcastle striker Arsene Wenger has expressed his admiration for Loic Remy, paving the way for a concerted effort to sign the Newcastle United loan striker in the summer. Remy's loan deal at St James' Park expires at the end of the season, and while Alan Pardew has already confirmed he will attempt to hold on to the France international permanently, the Magpies boss faces intense competition from a number of European sides. Juventus are the latest club to be linked with Remy, who is currently contracted to QPR, and while Newcastle officials will hope the experiences of the last nine months will count for something when they sit down to talk to the 27-year-old and his representatives, the Serie A side are one of a number of interested parties who can offer Champions League football next season. Arsenal are not guaranteed to be in that position yet, but the Gunners will finish in the top four if they win their remaining three Premier League g ...

Defender Kieran Gibbs (hamstring) is still sidelined along with England midfielder Jack Wilshere (foot), Serge Gnabry and Theo Walcott (both knee). Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will hope for a further fitness boost ahead the trip to Arsenal. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko is back in training after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem and could feature at the Emirates Stadium, while full-back Mathieu Debuchy and striker Loic Remy could return to the starting line-up after appearing as substitutes in last weekend's 2-1 home defeat by Swansea. Bob Moncur: Newcastle United's success in the French market in the past means it isn't all doom and gloom at St James' Newcastle United’s challenge of restructuring their squad for next season is already under way at St James’ Park. Bascially, the Magpies must look to repeat the success in the transfer market they’ve already in the last few years. It’s a tough task competing with those in the top six given that billions are being poured into the transfer war chests at places like Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, Man City and even Liverpool and Everton. Newcastle have made it clear they are working on a much more limited budget and Alan Pardew has been honest enough in public to tell us this will be a “slow build”. The life of a Premier League manager outside of the top six is tough. Just look at the scenario for Chris Hughton at Norwich City. He was battling away against relegation and for me he was doing a good job in tough circumstances. Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed to complete the job he ...
NEWCASTLE LATEST 9/1 Newcastle are 9/1 with Paddy Power to score first but lose to Man Utd Bastian Schweinsteiger's clinical finish nine minutes later ensured the Bavarian giants secured a 1-1 draw, but a spirited display from United - who had been widely tipped to be beaten comfortably - gave manager David Moyes heart. Moyes vowed to go "toe-to-toe" with the Bundesliga champions in the second leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday, but he must first turn his attention to Saturday's Premier League trip to St James' Park. United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Alan Pardew's side at Old Trafford back in December to pile more pressure on Moyes, after his former club Everton had consigned them to another home loss three days earlier. But the Premier League champions will be up against a very different Newcastle side to the one that gave the north-east club their first win at United since 1972. Match-winner Yohan Cabaye moved on to Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, while Pardew this week bemo ...
Relegation looms for Fulham Fulham, who are at home to Alan Pardew-less Newcastle United on Saturday, look doomed. Their last match at fellow strugglers Cardiff City was a must-not- lose, if only to provide them with a granule of hope that survival will be doable. Yet a 3-1 defeat with the defending plainly rotten reiterated Felix Magath's job is an increasingly hopeless one. Bottom of the table, four points from safety, without a win in the Top Flight since Jan. 1 and on to their third permanent manager of the season, the West London club's time in the Premier League looks up.
Premier League duo Manchester United and Arsenal have been handed a boost in the race to sign Remy Cabella. Montpellier midfielder Cabella, who has been labelled the next Zinedine Zidane, has been attracting interest from a number of English sides throughout the last couple of months Newcastle were said to be the frontrunners for his signature as they narrowly missed out on signing the 23-year-old in January Alan Pardew identified Manchester United and Arsenal target Cabella as the man to replace Yohan Cabaye, however the north-east club have been dealt a blow in their bid to revive their interest in the playmaker Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has revealed he will not accept any future offers from Newcastle for Cabella as he believes he should be playing at the highest level Speaking to the Daily Express, Nicollin said on Cabella: "We promised to let him leave. We will try to advise him to not leave for anywhere. Is Newcastle not a good destination? Don't make me laugh. In England you have to go to ...

Premier League review blog Hello and welcome to The Football Analyst Show and tonight were reviewing the premier league fixtures from this weekend. Starting off with Everton's 1-0 win over West Ham with Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal of the game as he hit home from Leighton Baines cross. Chelsea remained 4 points clear at the top with a 3-1 win over West London rivals Fulham who are still sat at the bottom of the table looking more and more likely to get relegated at this point with 10 games left. Andre Schurrle's hat trick made sure that Chelsea went home with 3 points. Jonny Heitinga scored the consolation goal for Fulham as that was his first goal for the club. Newcastle secured a massive away win at Hull winning 4-1. 2 of the goals came from Moussa Sissoko and one each from Loic Remy and Vurnon Anita who scored his first ever goal in the premier league since his arrival in the summer of 2012. Loic Remy scored a stoppage-time winner as Newcastle ended a run of four successive home league defeats by beating Aston Villa at St James' Park. Gabriel Agbonlahor went close for Villa with three first-half shots before Papiss Cisse sidefooted a Remy pass over from 10 yards at the other end. Remy was found by Luuk De Jong's pass late on only to shoot against a post. However, he atoned when he latched on to De Jong's deflected shot, cut inside Ron Vlaar and fired into the net. Remy finish was special - Pardew Remy's effort was Newcastle's first league goal at home in five games and provided Alan Pardew's side with their first win at St James' Park since Boxing Day. The victory also took the Magpies to the 40-point target Pardew had set his side as they helped erase the memory of their poor recent form. Villa have now lost three of their last four Premier League games and lie just four points from the relegation zone. Ultimately, Remy proved the difference between the two sides and his return to the Newcas ...

NEWCASTLE boss Alan Pardew has one more game – against Aston Villa – to avoid becoming the next victim of the Premier League managerial carnage.
Alan Pardew has told his troops to show the city of Newcastle they care in their next game against Aston Villa. The Magpies are looking to avoid the record books for all the wrong reasons. United had not lost five league games in a row since 1987 until Wednesday night against Tottenham Hotspur. However, as reported in last night’s Chronicle, Pardew tore a strip off some of his players after an inept 4-0 defeat. Pardew is trying to move on from the defeat but said in the aftermath of the Spurs loss: “In terms of where I am with the players – I have made it clear to them what their responsibility is to the fans and the city. “And that needs to be reflected in the next game. “That’s the only thing we can do.” United have now leaked 10 goals in three matches but are some way off the worst run of form in the Premier League. The coldest streak endured by the Magpies in the revamped division is eight matches without a victory. That came under Kenny Dalglish between February 7 and April 13, 1998. Bu ...
Mike Williamson admits the Newcastle United players have let their loyal fan base down, but feels criticism of their attitude is unfair. The Magpies slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, and questions have been raised as to the desire of those selected by Alan Pardew. Pardew admitted after a midweek home humbling that his side had not given 'life and limb' for the collective cause. Williamson acknowledges that criticism is to be expected after three straight Premier League defeats, in which they have conceded 10 goals and scored none, but the centre-half rejects any suggestion that the Newcastle squad do not care about performances and results. He said in The Northern Echo: "It might have come across to the fans that there was no heart, and that's a disappointing thing. "Sometimes, the fans can be a little bit unfair, but you can't say that over the past few games. They are justified, and we completely understand their anger and upset. "Believe me, the players in there are feelin ...
Newcastle 0-4 Tottenham: Adebayor double boosts Spurs' top-four hopes Tim Sherwood's men kept up their hunt for Champions League qualification at St James' Park against a Magpies side who have now won just once in seven league matches. Emmanuel Adebayor bagged a double as Tottenham kept up their push for a top-four Premier League finish with an impressive 4-0 win at Newcastle. The Togo striker, who was frozen out of the side under former coach Andre Villas-Boas, took his tally for the season to nine in all competitions as Spurs won on the road for the ninth Premier League game this season. Adebayor, who only managed eight goals in the whole of last season, scored an early tap-in and added the third late on after Paulinho had doubled the visitors' lead. Nacer Chadli completed the rout with a superb strike two minutes from time to hand Newcastle a fourth straight home league defeat, with Alan Pardew's men having drawn a blank in all of those matches. The victory keeps Tim Sherwood's side in the hunt for fou ...
NUFC abandon sign-a-simpleton policy Toon boss Alan Pardew fears Newcastle United may be forced to start a season without a recognised *** in the side for the first time in decades. “Losing a Grade A fruitcake like Joey Barton so close to the big Premier League kick off is a massive blow,” said Pardew, “and a first for the club in recent years. “So much of our preparation has been around employing a moron like Barton to shaft our chances left, right and centre, now all that hard work has been undone.” The St James’s Park outfit has relied on a steady stream of cretins in the team to derail any hopes of silverware since their last trophy win back in 1955. And club historian Walter Greendale, 87, fears moves to abandon Newcastle’s much-vaunted “sign-a-simpleton policy” may have serious consequences for the Tyneside club. “Newcastle fans turn up to watch their side implode not win trophies,” he said. “Goals and winning games are all very well for your Manchester Uniteds and Liverpoo . ...

Transfer Gossip Liverpool could turn to Spartak Moscow's Brazilian midfielder Romulo, 23, who has also been scouted by Arsenal and Chelsea, after learning that Lucas Leiva could miss up to two months with a knee injury. Stoke City striker Peter Crouch could be re-united with former manager Harry Redknapp who hopes to take the 32-year-old to Queens Park Rangers. West Ham are closing in on a double swoop that would see Italy internationals Antonio Nocerino, 28, and Marco Borriello, 31, arrive at Upton Park on loan. Cardiff City's proposed loan move for winger Wilfried Zaha, 21, means they will have to sign Manchester United's Fabio da Silva, 23, on a permanent basis because a team cannot sign two loan players from the same Premier League club. Monaco striker Lacina Traore, 23, could still be allowed to move to Everton despite a serious injury to his team-mate Radamel Falcao. Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, 28, has rejected the chance to join Borussia Moenchengladbach on loan, which could scupper Alan Pardew ...

Pellegrini and Suarez win prizes • Last Updated: January 10 2014, 10:58 GMT Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has been named the Barclays Premier League manager of the month for December with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez picking up the player of the month award. Pellegrini, who replaced Roberto Mancini as City boss last summer, secured the award for the first time after guiding his side to a seven-match unbeaten run during the month. City won six of their seven Premier League games in December - they only dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Southampton - including important home victories over title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool. The 60-year-old claimed the award ahead of three other nominees, Manchester United boss David Moyes, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Everton's Roberto Martinez. Brendan Rodgers, Arsene Wenger, Mauricio Pochettino and Alan Pardew are the four previous winners this season. Suarez was named the Premier League player of the month following his record-breaking goalscoring streak ...
Premier League Preview: West Brom v Newcastle United Newcastle United can continue their fine recent form against West Brom when they travel to The Hawthorns on New Year's Day. Alan Pardew's side are unbeaten in their last four meetings with the Midlands club, and defeated them 2-1 in their most recent encounter at St James' Park last month. Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko scored the goals on that occasion, but the visitors go into this game on the back of a rare defeat following a 1-0 home loss to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday. That reverse was only Newcastle's second in their last 10 Premier League matches, and Pardew will be wary of succumbing to a further slip up against a West Brom side that showed great resilience in their 3-3 draw at West Ham. Keith Downing's men twice came from behind to claim a share of the spoils at Upton Park, Nicolas Anelka scoring his first goals for the club with a double, but West Brom remain without a win in nine league outings. Anelka is available for selectio ...

A year that began with awkward questions has ended with an incredible and highly improbable one. Six points off the top on Saturday night, matching the form of the Continent’s heavyweights and very much on the march: are Newcastle United involved in the Premier League title conversation? Before the charges of delusion are prepared, that very poser was put to Alan Pardew by an independent, non-North East voice at Selhurst Park in the hour after United’s latest impressive away day display. He wanted none of it, of course, but the longer this formidable run snakes into the winter months the harder it will be to regard Newcastle as an anomaly in the top six. The weekend brought another 90 minutes where Newcastle looked like they belonged. The title? Let’s be honest, even in the festive party season no one is getting that tipsy on United’s success. This is not a squad built to challenge for those kind of honours. But the Champions League? With a bit of managerial sorcery, good fortune and the reliable ...
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp wants to boost his side's promotion chances with the loan signing of Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor. Rangers tried to sign the 27-year-old centre-back as part of the season-long deal that took Loic Remy to St James' Park from the Hoops in the summer. The Magpies were not willing to let him go at that stage, but The Mirror reports that Redknapp is hoping that they will reconsider in January considering Taylor's recent lack of first-team football. The former England Under-21 international was sent off in his only Premier League appearance this term, Newcastle's 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City on the opening day of the season. Since recovering from injury over a month ago, Taylor has failed to feature for Alan Pardew's side, and Championship leaders QPR reportedly want to loan him for the second half of the campaign. Taylor's agent has recently admitted that his client may be forced to leave Tyneside when the transfer window reopens, if he does ...

This week marks the third anniversary of Alan Pardew's appointment as Newcastle manager, making him the second longest serving manager in the Premier League! It seemed the perfect time to have a look back at "Pards'" first few years in charge. Alan Pardew's Newcastle career has been a roller-coaster ride from the very beginning. Following a 3-1 defeat to West Brom, the Newcastle board decided that Chris Hughton was not the man to take the club forward and they desired a more experienced head to lead the club. With the team sitting in 11th on their return to the top-flight, most fans were generally happy with the way the team were performing. Pardew's appointment initially, caused a stir. Hughton had been well liked on Tyneside and the surprise sacking meant whoever came in would be under a lot of pressure from the start. Pardew had a solid start though, with the team winning three, drawing two and losing two of his opening seven matches. However, the end of January brought the first real challenge of Pard ...
David Moyes' woes continued as Manchester United were beaten at home for the second time in four days, losing 1-0 to Newcastle United. The Premier League title holders lost 1-0 against Moyes' former club Everton on Wednesday and were beaten again on Saturday by a Newcastle side who picked up their first away league win at Old Trafford since 1972. Yohan Cabaye was the man on target for Newcastle, with the France international scoring after an hour. He calmly finished inside the area after being played in well by Moussa Sissoko to inflict consecutive home league defeats on the hosts for the first time since 2002. Alan Pardew's side had a slice of luck, however, as Vurnon Anita looked to handball an effort off the line at 0-0, before Robin Van Persie saw what would have been an equalising goal ruled out for offside. Moyes made one change in defence, bringing in Jonny Evans to replace Chris Smalling while making wholesale changes in his midfield. Nani, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Adnan Januzaj were all brou ...
Manchester United boss David Moyes has confirmed Shinji Kagawa is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League encounter with Newcastle. The Japan playmaker has picked up a sickness bug and was ill immediately after Wednesday night's 1-0 home defeat by Everton. "Shinji has a sickness bug," said Moyes. "We need to see how he is on Saturday but he wasn't too good after the game." With Wayne Rooney suspended, Moyes could do with Kagawa being available as Robin Van Persie has been missing for a fortnight with groin and toe problems. And the United boss refused to say whether the Dutchman could feature against Alan Pardew's men. "You can ask, that doesn't mean I will answer," he said. "Like every club we have a few injuries. Some have a chance and some don't." Everton's first victory at Old Trafford since 1992 has led to a storm of criticism being unleashed on Moyes, who attempted to brush it off as he spoke at the Aon Training Complex. "It's football isn't it?" he said. "It can happen at any club and it has happened ...
Double boost for Newcastle as Alan Pardew and Tim Krul land monthly Premier League awards
Roy Hodgson England manager Roy Hodgson on seven managers sacked in a week: ''Alan Pardew is the second longest serving manager in Premier League. My sympathy is always with managers or coaches who lose their jobs, as chairman of LMA I can't possibly suggest that I'm anything other than disappointed or concerned for all these guys losing their job.' ''A major factor is there's so much money, the prizes are so high if any team falters slightly off the path there is a big temptation for the owner to say another man may alter our path.''
Tim Krul is "one of the best" Premier League goalkeepers, says Newcastle manager Alan Pardew after his Dutch stopper produced a superb display to deny Tottenham in Sunday's 1-0 victory. The Netherlands international, 25, made 14 saves in the match - more than any keeper in the top-flight this season. "He has done a few good ones for us, Tim," said Pardew. "I think he is the best Dutch goalkeeper for sure and I think he is one of the best in the league."

Rooney vows United can be top by the New Year, but which of the eight teams they face until then are most likely to trip them up? After helping Manchester United kick-start their title charge following their 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal, Wayne Rooney has backed the Red Devils to be top come the New Year. The striker, who helped assist Robin Van Persie's winner against the Gunners at Old Trafford on Sunday, claimed after the match that the club aims to be 'top or thereabouts' at the turn of the year as they bid to retain their Premier League crown. United have a busy set of fixtures between now and then, playing nine top-flight games, including home and away clashes with rivals Tottenham. Tim Krul's heroics denied Tottenham a place back in the Premier League's top four and helped Newcastle to a 1-0 win on Sunday. The Dutchman was on fine form to deny Tottenham at regular intervals as Newcastle recorded their first away win over Spurs in five attempts, with Krul making 14 saves in total. Loic Remy continued his fine form to put Newcastle ahead with just 13 minutes on the clock, latching on to Yoan Gouffran’s throughball before rounding Brad Friedel and slotting home his seventh league goal in as many appearances. Roberto Soldado, Christian Eriksen and Paulinho were all frustrated by Krul in the first half before he continued his impressive performance after the break, with a spectacular double save among the highlights. Andre Villas-Boas was forced to rest first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris following the Frenchman's collision with Romelu Lukaku against Everton last weekend. Friedel made his 450th Premier League outing in his place while Mousa Dembele was favoured over Sandro in midfield ...

The lowdown Newcastle make the 248-mile round trip to North London to take on Spurs this weekend, and while the Toon Army decide how to navigate the cross-country jaunt down south in time for a ludicrously early 12pm kick-off, they can at least do so comforted by renewed optimism following a pleasing 2-0 win over Chelsea. Newcastle eye up Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen ARSENAL defender Thomas Vermaelen is a January transfer target for Newcastle. Share 0 By Harry Pratt/Published 3rd November 2013 Thomas VermaelenThomas Vermaelen could be on his way out of the Emirates after falling down the pecking order [PA ARCHIVE/PRESS ASSOCIATION IMAGES] The Geordies’ director of football, Joe Kinnear, has watched the Belgium international twice in the last month. Any move for Vermaelen though will be a loan deal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is reluctant to allow his club captain to leave on a permanent basis midway through the campaign. Wenger has only three recognised first-team centre-halves – and would want a recall clause on Vermaelen should anything happen to regular pair Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. Vermaelen, 27, has made just one Premier League appearance since recovering from a long-term back injury. He fears his World Cup place with much fancied Belgium could be in danger if he is unable to get more regular act ...
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has joked that Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho will "get a slap" if he celebrates any goals in Saturday's Premier League game. The Special One jumped into the crowd to celebrate Chelsea's injury-time winner against Manchester City last weekend.
Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy dented Chelsea's Premier League title charge as Newcastle erased the memories of their derby defeat at Sunderland with a morale-boosting 2-0 victory. Gouffran's 68th-minute diving header and Remy's late strike, his sixth goal of the season, settled a game which blossomed from modest beginnings into an end-to-end encounter. Indeed, had it not been for keeper Petr Cech, who had earlier made second-half saves from Moussa Sissoko and Gouffran, the Magpies might have gleaned more reward than the 2-0 win with which they emerged from a testing afternoon. But while manager Alan Pardew will have been delighted with a performance which started out as a backs-to-the-wall battle and ended in a toe-to-toe slugging match, opposite number Jose Mourinho was left to reflect upon a toothless display from his all- stars. Chelsea dominated for long periods in front of a packed house of 51,674, but having hit the bar twice within seconds early in the game, did not call upon keeper Tim Krul until 10 ...

Kinnear’s scouting report ahead of Wear-Tyne derby. Newcastle United director of football Joe Kinnear sat in the Liberty Stadium main stand, furiously scribbling notes. His scouting report for next weekend’s Wear-Tyne derby will have Alan Pardew salivating. For 45 minutes, Sunderland played with a solid team shape that frustrated Swansea and provided evidence of Gus Poyet’s “back to basics” blueprint on the training ground. But when Swansea upped the tempo, the collapse was as spectacular as anything the Black Cats have produced during this most shambolic of starts to the season. In a mere seven-minute spell, Sunderland surrendered with those familiar defensive clangers which have cost them repeatedly. The inability to defend set pieces is laughable – the tally conceded from deadball situations in the Premier League now standing at six after another pair. They’re almost averaging one a game. If it hadn’t been for a handful of stunning saves from Keiren Westwood, the margin of defeat could ...
Alan Pardew is understood to be keen to get a new deal agreed with Paul Dummett. The Geordie boy’s contract expires at the end of the campaign, although it is believed there have been only preliminary discussions on extending his current contract. United are eager to showcase local Tyneside talent coming through their ranks and Dummett’s progress is the ideal example for their blueprint. Dummett’s performances have not gone unnoticed around the football circuit and Birmingham City, Millwall and Premier League Hull City all have the Welsh under-21 international on their radar. However, the Chronicle understands both United and Dummett are keen to put any talk about his future to bed by agreeing a new deal – with the new contract expected to be announced soon. Dummett’s performance and first Premier League goal drew praise from ex-Toon skipper and England star Alan Shearer over the weekend, who was impressed by the Kenton lad’s left-footed finish against Liverpool. Yet his first goal was missed ...

Who will be the next Premier League player to get the sack? Chris Hughton, Alan Pardew, Martin Jol, Ian Holloway, Malky Mackay or David Moyes?? Vote here:
Newcastle United are said to have denied earlier reports that owner Mike Ashley reportedly talked Alan Pardew out of resigning as manager of the club last night. The Magpies fell to their third Premier League defeat in six games, after a 3-2 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park. Romelu Lukaku scored a brace, and Ross Barkley also found the net as Newcastle's defence fell apart in the first 45 minutes. Ashley watched the first half capitulation from the stands, alongside director of football Joe Kinnear. Pardew signed an eight-year contract extension at St James' Park last September - a deal that ties him down to the club until 2020. Newcastle have conceded six goals in their last two Premier League games. They travel to Cardiff City at the weekend, followed by games against Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester City (League Cup), Chelsea and Tottenham.

Pardew defends Newcastle´s transfer policy 12 September 2013 19:23 Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has defended his club's close-season transfer policy, which saw just one arrival at St James' Park. While Loic Remy was brought in on loan, Newcastle were the only Premier League side not to make a single permanent signing of a senior player during the recent transfer window. However, Pardew feels the club's dealings in January, coupled with Remy's loan signing and various youth prospects, will stand his side in good stead. "It's important sometimes to understand that we have a very good team," said the 52-year-old. "We invested £30-odd million in the last window, we have brought Remy in. "We have brought a lot of young players here who I think, will hopefully, blossom. That's why they were brought here. The likes of Sammy Ameobi and Paul Dummett, part of my management is to develop players." Pardew was linked with forwards such as Bafetimbi Gomis and Darren Bent over the close-season but to no avail. ...

Arouna Kone could be Joe Kinnear's 1st piece of business as Newcastle's director of football as they hope to prize him away from Wigan this summer. Kone bagged himself 13 goals in a season that saw the Latics relegated to the Championship and with a £5 million minimum release clause has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs. Alan Pardew is keen to bolster his sides striking options as he lost Demba Ba to Chelsea last January for a cut price of £7.5 million. If Newcastle are to snap up the 29 year old they will have to fight off competition from former Wigan boss Roberto Martinez at Everton as well as Liverpool. Pardew is thought to be interested in Aston Villa out of favour Darren Bent but the Magpies have baulked at the £8 million valuation placed on him by the Villans. Kone would prove a significantly cheaper option with the club already having spent upwards of £18 million in the January transfer window this year.
Kinnear And Carr Pick Transfer Targets (No Pardew?) The Chronicle reports today that ... Joe Kinnear and Graham Carr have met to discuss Newcastle United's assault on the transfer market in the hope of reaching an agreement on a short-list of targets to strengthen Alan Pardew's squad. Kinnear's appointment as director of football cast doubt over Carr's future, but the Northampton-based chief scout vowed to carry on in his role as did Pardew. In the wake of Kinnear's arrival, it emerged the Magpies boss has clashed with Carr over transfer targets with the pair having different views on the type of player Newcastle should be signing. Kinnear is keen to bring in more Premier League experience to compliment the wealth of French imports he has acquired since taking over in December 2010. On the other hand, Carr is of the opinion that the Tynesiders should continue with their current transfer policy of bringing in overseas players on the cheap with the potential to sell on for considerably bigger fees. Carr has ...
Alan Pardew is hoping to complete the signing of Darren Bent from Aston Villa, and will consequently break Newcastle United’s policy of only buying players if they can be sold on for more money in the future. According to the Mirror, the Villa striker is greatly sought after since being told he has no future with his current club. Newcastle are fighting with teams such as Fulham to secure the experienced forward, the newspaper claims. Policy Newcastle have recently focused on signing youthful players in order to let the value of the players and therefore the team, rise. This means they rarely target players over the age of 25. Bent would also provide an English representative in a team which has become swamped by French players. In their last Premier League game, they had five starting Frenchmen with two more on the bench. However, Bent’s age is not the only thing making his transfer to St James’ Park difficult. His £70,000 per week wages are something which will have to go under negotiations with ...
It seems that even though Alan Pardew is very good friends with Darren Bent he will not be coming to Newcastle United.Bent is available for £6M and is on 75K a week wages something Mike Ashley will not shell out for.Lot's of supporters don't want an ex player who played for Sunderland at the club but we have had ex Sunderland players at the club before i.e.Shay Given.Paul Bracewell,Barry Venison,Lionel Perez so why should Bent be any different he is a proven goal scorer who has scored goals at every level a fit Darren Bent is a very good player. If we could negotiate and say pay £5M and say 50K a week wages i think it would be a good signing after all we have more revenue being put into the Premier League next season.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will not rush playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa back as he tries to secure Premier League safety.
Alan Pardew has been interviewed in the local press today, and he is obviously delighted we were able to get all 3 points against what looked like a very solid Stoke side, but that’s Stoke’s 7th loss in the last nine Premier League games. Papiss Cisse smashes home the winner on 92 minutes This is what Alan Pardew had to say to the local press today: “It was a massive win for us and sets up Thursday night for a special evening.” “Our fans have earned the right to get the place as full as we can. “The margins are so small against them we need every advantage.” “It gives me the luxury of making Anzhi my priority – not Wigan. God willing, we’ll get a great win.” “I am ecstatic for our fans.” “That is a game that we’d have struggled to win with out best team.” “Stoke come here with a great game plan and a great mentality.” “They came here and made it difficult for us.” “We had to ask all sorts of different questions of them – and we did.” “This is a Stoke team t ...
Alan Pardew told Sky Sports after the game: “It was a very important win for us, because it jumps us right up the Premier League and gives us a chance to attack the top ten.” “But we were fortunate in some ways, Stoke came here and were excellent today, and that was as good a defensive display as you will see.” “They stopped us playing and made it very difficult and we kept plugging away, asking different questions and in the end it was a pass through the eye of the needle from Sylvain Marveaux that got us the goal.” “The team has done well in his absence and he is knocking on the door and he sparked us in that last little bit and it was massive.” “Stoke were a threat all afternoon from set plays, they are giants and you have to be big and strong which we were and I thought Steven Taylor was England standard today. It is a brilliant win for us – a massive win.” “Sometimes it is not physical, but a mental tiredness and I thought we were slow. But I thought we brightened up,” “It ...
Alan Pardew praised his Newcastle United side for 'winning ugly' as they launched another home fightback to see off Stoke on Sunday. The Magpies fell behind midway through the second half to a Jonathan Walters penalty, but Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse were on target for the hosts at St. James' Park to turn the Premier League fixture on its head and secure maximum points. United have been through similar scenarios in their previous two Tyneside league games - against Chelsea and Southampton - with identical victorious outcomes. And manager Pardew believes they yet again ground out the win on a difficult afternoon. "It was a tough game," "Stoke are really tough opposition, our fans are intelligent enough to know that. They defended deep, got bodies behind the ball, made us make mistake and we looked ugly. "But that's what they are good at, and they are always a threat, so to win it was a massive bonus for us. "We were quicker in the second half from set-plays - our throw-ins, goal-kicks and free-kicks. "We ...

Davide Santon has revealed that the never-say-die attitude instilled into himself and Samuel Eto'o by former manager Jose Mourhino still exists. But he will be doing everything he can to inflict misery on the Cameroon legend tonight. Santon was a rising star under the Special One at Inter and it was the 31-year-old superstar Eto'o that helped show him the ropes. The Italian thinks the world of Alan Pardew after being handed his big Premier League chance by the United boss, but admits tonight will rekindle memories of his time at the San Siro under the Portuguese manager. But all of that friendship from his Serie A days will go out of the window at the Luzhniki Stadium when the Magpies tackle Anzhi Makhachkala in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League tie. Santon told the Chronicle from Moscow: 'We worked under Mourinho and he instilled the winning mentality into us. MATCH DAY! Bring it on!!! Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is out of Thursday's Europa League last 16 first leg match at Anzhi Makhachkala. Cisse did not travel to Russia because of a virus, meaning Shola Ameobi had to be drafted into the squad. "I didn't have any intention of bringing Shola," said Newcastle manager Alan Pardew. "[The Luzhniki Stadium] is a surface that he's been advised in the past not really to play on." Defender Fabricio Coloccini (back) also stayed in Newcastle. Winger Hatem Ben Arfa is in Russia and Pardew is hopeful he will play some part on Thursday. Ben Arfa has not played since tearing a hamstring during the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Fulham on 10 December. Pardew is expecting a tough encounter against a side that has the likes of ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o and former Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra in their ranks. "You need some luck, but you need a good technical game and you need to have the right mentality in the group. I think our mentality is strong," said Pard ...
Alan Pardew says winning the Europa League is "top of the agenda" now Newcastle are down to the last-16 stage. Pardew has rested some of his bigger names throughout the competition but knows Thursday's first leg agaisnt Anzhi Makhachkala represents a real step up in class. And despite a cushion of just six points on the Premier League's bottom three, the manager has hinted he is ready to reassess his priorities. He said: "It would be massive if we could beat this team because they are a really strong side.
John Carver has insisted that Newcastle United are not prepared to settle for mere Premier League survival this season. This week, while Swansea City have been celebrating their Capital One Cup win, the only focus at the club's Benton base has been taking three points from the Europe-bound Jacks - not to mention the realisation that there is more than just fending off relegation on the agenda for the Magpies. The Geordie assistant manager is well aware that expectations on Tyneside can spiral out of control both ways at St James' Park. And having worked with Sir Bobby Robson during an era when the iconic ex-England boss encouraged his players to have 'wild dreams', not to mention assisting Alan Pardew during the highest finish since the days of the Geordie Godfather, he knows how the good times can roll. There was panic when United slumped to the wrong end of the table amid a crippling injury crisis this season. But through it all and during a long hard winter Pardew, Carver and the rest of the backroom s ...

Newcastle v Metalist, 20:05 Metalist come to Newcastle as winner of their group, with four victories in this six matches and while the home fans may view them as an easy draw for Newcastle the away team won’t lie down in the face of Premier League opposition. Alan Pardew won’t get many chances to manage in Europe, and with the relegation fears easing a bit following some good transfer business he may be able to field a strong side this evening. There is 21/20 with Bet365 on over 2.5 goals in this game, which I expect to yield a few. Newcastle are without January signings Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy for the Europa League clash with Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv. The duo are cup-tied, having already played for French sides Bordeaux and Lille respectively in this season’s Europa League competition. Gouffran would be unavailable anyway as he recovers from a leg injury. Hatem Ben Arfa (knee) remains out and fellow midfielder Sammy Ameobi is missing with a hamstring problem.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is targeting a big first-leg lead in Thursday's Europa League game against Metalist Kharkiv, as he fears the return match in Ukraine could have a detrimental effect on his side's Premier League survival battle. -Jake
Alan Pardew relished the reward of a night of untroubled sleep while Paul Lambert has enough worries to keep him awake until May.       "I'm looking forward to my bed," said the smiling Newcastle United manager Pardew as he left Villa Park reflecting on the conclusion of some hectic transfer business and a first Premier League away win this season.   No such luxuries for his counterpart Lambert, as their season falls off a cliff after a 2-1 defeat dropped them back into the relegation zoneand continued a decline of such proportions you can almost reach out and touch the despair around Aston Villa.       Lambert clutched at the flimsy straw of a gutsy second-half performance that occasionally threatened to rescue an abject first 45 minutes which were bankrupt of quality and ideas.   The Scot even suggested Villa's fans appreciated this belated effort so much that his team received a standing ovation at the end - more of a stooping ovation, as one cynic put it - but you could hardly blame Lambert f ...
Sky Sports News--Newcastle have agreed a fee with Nancy for Massadio Haidara, according to Sky sources. The France U21 defender emerged as a target for Alan Pardew earlier this month and has also been linked with Roma. Haidara's priority is to join a Premier League club, and he could now get his wish after Nancy accepted an undisclosed offer. He said recently: "Newcastle do appeal to me, but everyone has to agree. "I would be very happy to play there. My preference is England. It is the league which attracts me the most and would suit my game the best." Haidara is the third French defender pursued by Newcastle this transfer window. Mathieu Debuchy has already arrived and a bid for Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been agreed.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has made two changes to his starting line-up for Saturday's Premier League home game against Reading (3pm kick-off). Midfielder Yohan Cabaye and long-serving striker Shola Ameobi are both in from the off, as the Magpies look to build on a goalless draw against Norwich last time out. The duo take the place of James Perch and Gabriel Obertan, who both drop down to the substitutes' bench, and for Cabaye, it will be his first start since undergoing groin surgery in the middle of November. United are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with goalkeeper Tim Krul protected by a back four of Mathieu Debuchy - making his home debut - Mike Williamson, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Davide Santon. Vurnon Anita and Cabaye will anchor the hosts' midfield, with Ameobi, Sylvain Marveaux and Jonas Gutierrez providing the support and creativity for lone striker Papiss Cisse. Newcastle's bench has a much-more experienced look about it than in recent weeks. Along with Perch and Ob ...
When Nigel Adkins replaced Alan Pardew at Southampton just over 2 years ago (Sept '10 I think) Southampton were languishing in 22nd place in Division 1 of the Football League. What came next were two consecutive promotions (incidentally, he became the first ever Saints manager to achieve back-to-back promotions) even keeping them in the top 2 places in the Championship during the whole of last season. Now, the club is more than holding it's own in the Premier League, they've lost one in the last seven games (infact they've lost two in twelve!), including wins against relegation rivals Aston Villa and Reading, drawing at home to Arsenal and even coming from 2-0 down at half time at Stamford Bridge earlier this week against the European Champions Chelsea to get a point!! He'd moulded together a great young side who were getting stronger this season with the likes of Shaw, Clyne, Schneiderlin, Cork, Lallana, Gaston and Rodriguez, in Jason Puncheon he was getting the best out of a player who for the last few ...
Newcastle are targeting a £9million deal for Ajax playmaker Siem De Jong in a bid to save their torrid season. The Magpies have seen the loss of their top goal-scorer and talisman so far this window, with Demba Ba completing a long-awaited £7.5 million move to Chelsea. Only full back Mathieu Debuchy has been added to the rank so far at St James, another transfer that was a long time in the waiting. However Newcastle will miss the goals of Demba Ba and had thought they had found a natural replacement in Marseille striker Loic Remy. Top talent spotter Graham Carr had watched Remy numerous times and even Alan Pardew thought that the deal for Remy would go through this month without too many complications. That was until Harry Redknapp's QPR stepped in with their astronomical £80,000 a week offer for Remy to join their fight for Premier League survival. So Pardew has now turned to Ajax star Siem De Jong to help change Newcastle's fortunes. De Jong can play in midfield but is more well known for occupying t ...
Demba Ba: “I do not like when I compare with Mario Balotelli, before everything … I do not smoke and drink alcool, and I pray 5 times each day in the mosque” Alan Pardew said: ‘You have to respect that some players have a different religion to most of the footballers in this country. We need different facilities for them. It’s important that whatever the religion, we take care of it and understand it.’ Dedicated prayer rooms are not new in English football although they are few and far between, and the Premier League’s first multi-faith prayer room inside a stadium was unveiled only four years ago at Blackburn. That was as much in response to the multicultural make-up of the local population as to the demand from players. Bolton also have a prayer room, as do Manchester City who have four practising Muslims in their first-team squad — Yaya and Kolo Toure, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri. Other Premier League stars sharing their faith include Ali Al-Habsi of Wigan, Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh, ...
According to the Telegraph today: Alan Pardew has warned Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley that the club are in danger of tumbling out of the Premier League if he does not allow him to spend heavily in the transfer market.
Demba Ba 'has been honourable' says Alan Pardew
Newcastle United chairman Mike Ashley's canny wage structure has been revealed by Demba Ba's move to Chelsea. The Daily Mail says Ba transfer saga has revealed Newcastle owner Ashley’s salary strategy — to keep the basic wages as low as possible but hand out incentives for success. Ba, who wants £80,000 a week at Chelsea, was on about £40,000 at St James’ Park, plus another £20,000 per appearance. In the same way, manager Alan Pardew is comparatively poorly paid for a top Premier League manager but has big bonuses built in and the security of an eight-year contract with no break clauses.
Demba Ba set for Chelsea switch with Newcastle's blessing • Senegal striker faces medical before London move • Alan Pardew: 'It's done. He will go to Chelsea' Demba Ba looks to have played his last game for Newcastle before a proposed switch to Chelsea. Photograph: Scott Heppell/AP Chelsea are confident of agreeing personal terms with Demba Ba and completing the £7m signing of the striker on Thursday, the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, having said on Wednesday night it "was a done deal". Rafael Benítez, the Chelsea manager, was more cautious but confirmed that he hopes to have the Senegalese striker available for the game against Southampton this weekend. "I don't have any official information," Benítez said after the home defeat by Queens Park Rangers. "I know that Alan Pardew is talking but officially he is not our player, so I cannot say too much. The club is working [on it]. If we can do the business, I hope he can be available for Southampton [on Saturday] but I cannot say too much. Al ...
Mike Williamson will figure in tonight's Premier League battle with Everton after the returning centre-half was backed by his manager Alan Pardew. Not the most cultured central defender in the Premiership, one current Newcastle player told us "Mike is best when he just hoofs the ball - we don't like him to dwell on the ball for too long - but what he does - he does well." Alan Pardew says Williamson – back from a one-match ban – is the only Toon player capable of marking man mountain Marouane Fellaini. Williamson will slot back into United’s back four alongside Fabricio Coloccini, with Newcastle desperate to plug the defensive gaps which resulted in them conceding 11 goals over the holiday period in defeats at Manchester United and Arsenal. Alan Pardew: “Willo’s a natural centre-half and it gives us a natural balance. “We have lost Danny so we have to make a decision at right-back. “Just having Willo back will be important. “Fellaini offers an aerial threat probably only Williamson can dea ...
Arsenal (a) Newcastle bid farewell to 2012 with a trip to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday that gets underway at 5.30pm for the benefit of live TV coverage on ESPN. All tickets for the away section have been sold and we now have official confirmation that the 8pm and 9pm Kings Cross to Newcastle trains have been designated as "dry", meaning that no alcohol will be on sale and it is an offence to carry or consume it on board. The home side will go into this game with the benefit of a week off, following the postponement of their Boxing Day home fixture against West Ham. Newcastle have lost seven of their last nine Premier League fixtures and won the other two, failing to register a draw since the 1-1 at Anfield in early November. Away from home this season, their record is just four points from a possible 27 with four successive losses coming into the game. Defeat would put us within one game of our worse away run in the Premier League (six losses between December 2007 & March 2008). Alan Pardew: "You take ...
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted that he is worried about the fitness of Vurnon Anita . The Dutch midfielder was stretchered off with an ankle injury late on in the Magpies' Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United , following a mistimed slide tackle by Antonio Valencia . "I was a bit upset with that tackle," said Pardew. "I have seen it again and I don't think it was malicious but Valencia has mistimed it badly and unfortunately it might cost us a player." "I am not sure what is wrong. It is too early to say. It is a bang on the ankle. We will have to see whether he will make Arsenal, which would be a loss to us." Anita has made 16 Premier League appearances this season since signing from Ajax in August.
Man Utd V NEWCASTLE (3pm) Manchester United - Newcastle Preview: Leaders looks for response after Swansea draw The Red Devils lead the Premier League by four points after drawing at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, but will have to overcome a Magpies side intent on climbing the table The only real injury problems Sir Alex Ferguson has are in midfield, with Anderson (hamstring) set to miss out until the trip to West Brom on December 29. Nani (hamstring) and Shinji Kagawa (knee) will most likely return against Steve Clarke's side at the Hawthorns asl well, so Ferguson may well call on the likes of Paul Scholes and Danny Welbeck to fill in the gaps in midfield. Wayne Rooney could be dropped after a disappointing display at Swansea in which he was substituted, with Chicharito or Welbeck ready to take his place up front. Alan Pardew has a number of fitness issues to contend with in his squad - Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring) and Dan Gosling (knee) have no set return dates, and are likely to miss the trip to Old Traff ...
