Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew rued an early penalty decision that went against his side at Manchester United on Friday.Pardew's men ultimately lost 3-1 at Old Trafford following two goals from Wayne Rooney and a Robin van Persie header, but things could have been much different after an incident in the 14th minute. While attempting to collect a lofted pass, Yoan Gouffran found himself tripped inside the United area by Juan Mata, denying what Pardew felt was a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Yet referee Mike Jones opted against awarding a penalty and, although Newcastle did later score from the spot through Papiss Cisse in the 87th minute, Pardew was left wondering what might have been. He told reporters: "I thought we started the game well and the referee has made a bad call early, because I think that is a penalty. "It's a goal-scoring opportunity, so you have to say that was clumsy and a penalty. I was disappointed with that. "But the cutting edge was the difference between the two teams - they . ...
I always thought it would take something special to halt Chelsea this season but I was wrong. Ultimately, we were undone by Mourinho's obstinacy and conservatism. Both managers started the game with understandable caution, electing to play the same 4-2-3-1 formation. The only difference being that Newcastle knew their stronger midfield players Tiote and Sissoko could absorb the early pressure Chelsea threw at them. In the 52nd minute Alan Pardew brought in Cisses and commenced the game the way he really wanted to --with two strikers in Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse. The resulting 4-4-2 formation opened up the game and Newcastle were up within minutes. Had Mourinho listened to Ody and I on Thursday, he would have known that the secret to beating this Newcastle team was to play two strikers. My biggest gripe with Jose was that he chose not to play Loic Remy against his old club. The striker is in form currently and would have relished the opportunity to punish his former employers, but Jose sat him on the be ...
Ravel Morrison will be touted about to Premier League strugglers in January by West Ham, once his loan spell at Sky Bet Championship club Cardiff ends. Liverpool edged a step closer to landing Martin Odegaard after the 15-year-old Norwegian starlet trained with the Anfield side. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says big clubs are certain to be watching his star midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Alan Irvine has held talks with West Brom chief Jeremy Peace, but is not expecting the sack even if 16th-placed Albion suffer a fifth defeat in a row when they visit to fellow strugglers Hull on Saturday. Nigel Pearson is set to remain in charge of Leicester this weekend despite his astonishing blast at the club's fans. Manchester United have reassessed their targets for the season after winning four game in a row under Louis Van Gaal. Utd's players are starting to believe a tilt at the title is now possible. Newcastle United VS Stoke City (29/09/2014) TEAM NEWS Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is fit again after recovering from illness that kept him out of the Capital One Cup win at Crystal Palace. Midfielder Mehdi Abeid is suspended after being sent off in that match. Stoke midfielder Jonathan Walters will have a late fitness test on a calf problem that has sidelined him for the last two weeks. Stephen Ireland is set to return to league action after making his injury comeback in the League Cup in midweek. MATCH PREVIEW: It says a lot about the Premier League these days that the main talking point ahead of this game is centred upon comments uttered outside a London pub. Mike Ashley's representatives insist that Newcastle's owner was speaking with tongue firmly in cheek when he told a newspaper reporter that Alan Pardew had one game left to save his job: "If we lose against Stoke on Monday night he's gone. I've had enough." Rest assured - regardless of what club you are at - any manager rooted to the bottom of . ...
Alan Pardew will be without Tim Krul, Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran for Wednesday night's Capital One Cup tie at Crystal Palace. Krul and Gouffran both started Saturday's 2-2 with Hull City while Cisse came from the bench to score twice. But all three have been struck by a sickness bug this week.
PREMIER LUEGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK Frank Lampard came back to haunt old club Chelsea with a late goal to earn champions Manchester City a 1-1 draw with the Premier League leaders. However, Sunday's big match had its thunder stolen by Leicester City, who achieved a stunning 5-3 comeback victory against Manchester United. West Ham inflicted a third defeat of the season on Liverpool, Southampton moved up to second with victory at Swansea, Arsenal beat a virus-affected Aston Villa 3-0 and Crystal Palace won their first game of the season at Everton. Elsewhere, Papiss Cisse rescued a point for beleaguered Newcastle boss Alan Pardew against Hull, QPR came back twice to draw with Stoke and Burnley and Sunderland could not find a goal between them. Take a look at my team of the week and see if you agree with my choices. GOALKEEPER - Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal) Of the 10 goalkeepers to have played in three Premier League games away from home this term, none have conceded fewer goals than Szczesny's three Poland inter ...

Arsenal stun Villa 3-0 Arsenal stopped Aston Villa going top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win on Saturday. Villa had conceded just one league goal in their previous four league matches but all that changed as Arsenal fired in three inside four minutes at Villa Park. The much-criticisedMesut Ozil put the Gunners in front in the 32nd minute and former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck scored his first Arsenal goal two minutes later before Villa’s Aly Cissokho turned the ball into his own net. Meanwhile Newcastle moved off the bottom of the table and eased the pressure on under-fire manager Alan Pardew by coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Hull, with substitute Papiss Cisse scoring both the Magpies’ goals. Southampton won 1-0 away to a Swansea side who had to play more than half the match a man down after Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony was sent off. QPR and Stoke shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Loftus Road while honours were also even in the goalless draw between Burnley and Sund ...

Toon V Hull Tigers Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote is expected to return to the starting line-up after making his comeback from injury as a substitute last week. However, Rolando Aarons has been ruled out until November and the match comes too soon for striker Papiss Cisse. Hull midfielder Stephen Quinn has overcome an ankle injury he picked up against West Ham on Monday. Tom Ince returns after being rested for that match, but on-loan Hatem Ben Arfa can't play against his parent club. MATCH PREVIEW As Alan Pardew fights for his future, the irony that the weekend visitors are Hull can't be overlooked. Just over six months ago, and despite his side cruising to a comfortable win, the Newcastle boss inexplicably lost his composure, headbutting City midfielder David Meyler, whose initial look of incredulity summed up this now infamous event. Many observers felt it would be Pardew's last act as Newcastle boss. Lawro's prediction Part of the reason Newcastle fans want Alan Pardew out is that he has been in cha ...
END OF THE DISCUSSION: Ameobi leaves Newcastle after 14 years Shola Ameobi will bring an end to 14 years of playing at Newcastle this summer after he was not offered a new contract. Loan pair Loic Remy and Luuk De Jong will also return to their respective parent clubs Queens Park Rangers and Borussia Monchengladbach. It means the Toon Army are left with only one recognised senior striker, Papiss Cisse, who is out with a knee injury and could miss the start of next season. Ameobi came through the ranks on Tyneside before making his debut in September 2000. However, he struggled to ever hold down a regular spot at St James' Park, making 397 appearances and scoring 79 goals in total. Seven of those came against Sunderland in Tyne-Wear derby fixtures while the 32-year-old also famously scored in the Champions League against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in December 2002. Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew said: "I have to make a special mention of Shola Ameobi, who has been an incredible servant to Newcastle Un ...
Newcastle United 1-0 Crystal Palace: Cisse strikes in stoppage time to break Eagles' hearts Papiss Cisse went from zero to hero by grabbing a last-gasp winner for Newcastle against battling Crystal Palace at St James' Park. Cisse found the net with an injury-time header, having previously spurned a number of glorious opportunities. The Senegalese forward had been frequently denied by Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni, but redeemed himself with only his second league goal of the season, giving Newcastle success in their second game with assistant manager John Carver in the dugout in place of the banned Alan Pardew. Palace, who remain three points above the relegation zone, looked set to claim a share of the spoils after displaying excellent defensive resolve. The visitors also struck the crossbar through Yannick Bolasie and must have thought they had done enough to earn a point when Cisse missed an open goal late on after Cheick Tiote had crashed an effort against the woodwork. However, the London club's ** ...

Loic Remy scored a stoppage-time winner as Newcastle ended a run of four successive home league defeats by beating Aston Villa at St James' Park. Gabriel Agbonlahor went close for Villa with three first-half shots before Papiss Cisse sidefooted a Remy pass over from 10 yards at the other end. Remy was found by Luuk De Jong's pass late on only to shoot against a post. However, he atoned when he latched on to De Jong's deflected shot, cut inside Ron Vlaar and fired into the net. Remy finish was special - Pardew Remy's effort was Newcastle's first league goal at home in five games and provided Alan Pardew's side with their first win at St James' Park since Boxing Day. The victory also took the Magpies to the 40-point target Pardew had set his side as they helped erase the memory of their poor recent form. Villa have now lost three of their last four Premier League games and lie just four points from the relegation zone. Ultimately, Remy proved the difference between the two sides and his return to the Newcas ...
Loic Remy ended Newcastle United's goal drought with a stoppage-time strike as Aston Villa went down 1-0 at St James' Park. Remy had squandered a glorious chance moments earlier when he could only hit the post with the goal seemingly at his mercy, and it looked as though the Magpies were set to finish a fifth straight game without getting on the scoresheet. However, he made space for himself in the area in the 92nd minute to fire past Brad Guzan and give Newcastle a valuable victory. Newcastle went into the game having lost each of their last five fixtures in all competitions at St James' and with the club moving to deny that Alan Pardew's job was on the line if he did not remedy that situation against Villa. The initial signs were positive as a team strengthened significantly by the return of Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote from injury and Remy from suspension set about their task in determined fashion. Remy forced a second-minute save from Guzan with a well-struck effort and Papiss Cisse almost emba ...
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has said Papiss Cisse and Yohan Gourffran to be fit for Saturday's Tyne-wear Derby and there are applying to FA for Remy Red card. Some good news for the toon!
Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Luuk De Jong is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle, the German club have confirmed. The Dutchman is expected to have tests on Tuesday ahead of completing an initial loan move with a view to a permanent transfer. De Jong is a long-term target for manager Alan Pardew, who tried to sign the 23-year-old last summer before he opted for a £12.6million switch from FC Twente to Gladbach. However, the frontman has found the going tough in the Bundesliga and is currently on the periphery of the squad. Pardew has been desperate to strengthen his striking resources during the current window with Loic Remy only on loan, Shola Ameobi out of contract at the end of the season and Papiss Cisse having been repeatedly linked with a move away from the club this month. Indeed, reports suggested a swap deal involving he and De Jong could be arranged, although that has been dismissed by the Magpies. Pardew insisted on Monday that he did not expect Cisse to leave the club this week, although ...
The match at Norwich has got a bit lost in all the Cabaye fiasco but now the latest bad news is that a Yoan Gouffran injury will keep him out of tonight’s match. Alan Pardew yesterday confirmed that as well as Fabricio Coloccini continuing to be out, Papiss Cisse would also miss with a back injury. However, later it was revealed that 17 year old youth striker Adam Armstrong would travel to Norwich and then even later yesterday, the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder (see below) reported that an unspecified Gouffran injury would also see him almost certainly miss. This would obviously explain Armstrong’s addition to the squad – not exactly the best time to blood young players when things are a mess. So Cabaye is heading off, Jonas on loan, Colo and now Gouffran apparently injured, just as well we have got such a strong squad…
Newcastle Manager Alan Pardew Sure of Papiss Cisse Stay: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew feels sure that striker Papiss Cisse will stay at the club this month.
TRANSFER GOSSIP Liverpool could turn to Spartak Moscow's Brazilian midfielder Romulo, 23, who has also been scouted by Arsenal and Chelsea, after learning that Lucas Leiva could miss up to two months with a knee injury. Stoke City striker Peter Crouch could be re-united with former manager Harry Redknapp who hopes to take the 32-year-old to Queens Park Rangers. West Ham are closing in on a double swoop that would see Italy internationals Antonio Nocerino, 28, and Marco Borriello, 31, arrive at Upton Park on loan. Cardiff City's proposed loan move for winger Wilfried Zaha, 21, means they will have to sign Manchester United's Fabio da Silva, 23, on a permanent basis because a team cannot sign two loan players from the same Premier League club. Monaco striker Lacina Traore, 23, could still be allowed to move to Everton despite a serious injury to his team-mate Radamel Falcao. Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, 28, has rejected the chance to join Borussia Moenchengladbach on loan, which could scupper Alan Pardew ...

VIP SINGLE WIN Newcastle - Manchester City 2 (1.70) With two consecutive Premier League losses, Newcastle have slipped down the table and are currently 8th with 33 points from 10 wins and three draws. They have also suffered a 1-2 loss in a FA Cup tie against Cardiff, which means the Magpies could lose four games in a row for the first time in just over a year. Alan Pardew has lost Fabricio Coloccini for the next few weeks and Mathieu Debuchy, who is serving a three-match ban, while Tim Krul is expected to return in goal and midfielder Yohan Cabaye looks to have overcome a recent injury. Newcastle are without a Premier League goal in 190 minutes since Papiss Cisse's 80th-minute penalty in the 5-1 win over Stoke. Scoring goals hasn't been a problem for Manchester City though, as six goals against West Ham on Wednesday took the City total to 92 from 31 games played this season. Manuel Pellegrini's side sits in 3rd place on the table, just two points shy of league-leaders Chelsea who have collected 46 points ...

Two different Newcastle sides were on display at Goodison Park on Monday night as a first half horror show almost turned into a memorable second half comeback. However, three awful goals conceded before the break were enough to seal United's fate - although the Toffees almost came unstuck when Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy both netted to threaten an unlikely comeback. Cabaye had been left on the bench by Alan Pardew due to fitness concerns, United lining up in a 4-5-1 formation headed by sole striker Remy and with Cheick Tiote and Yoan Gouffran included. Papiss Cisse was also a sub. That safety-first approach though translated into an open invitation for Everton to swarm forward unmolested and Romelu Lukaku rounded off a swift counter attack on five minutes by hammering the ball past Tim Krul. Further pathetic defending allowed the on-loan striker to rampage forward and he set up Ross Barkley to notch a second before latching on to Tim Howard's upfield punt to embarrassingly elude Fabricio Coloccini and Krul ...
Joe Kinnear believes his long friendship with Graham Carr can only help Newcastle United’s transfer activity this summer. Kinnear, the Magpies’ new director of football, has known chief scout Carr for more than 30 years. The two men have had a number of meetings this week as they look to progress the club’s signings. Carr has been the key figure in Newcastle’s transfer policy over the last couple of seasons, unearthing players like Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux, Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse for relatively modest sums. Kinnear’s arrival as director of football – and claims that he would be in charge of all transfers – led to reports that Carr was considering his position at the club, especially as Kinnear had put the block on a free transfer move for Brazilian defender Douglas, who Carr had recommended. But Kinnear insists the pair – and manager Alan Pardew – can all work together to improve Newcastle’s squad. “I’ve known Graham since he started off managing in non-league football ...
Joe Kinnear says signing a new striker is one of the first priorities as director of football with Newcastle United. The Magpies intend to keep No 9 Papiss Cisse, but Kinnear is eager to bring a new centre-forward through the door in the coming weeks. Kinnear has already held meetings with chief scout Graham Carr to look at the current shortlist of talent following a host of scouting missions in the last six months. However, he is eager to ensure manager Alan Pardew has another frontman at his disposal before August’s big kick-off. He told the Chronicle: “My first target is to find somebody who is going to get us 20-plus goals. “That is my thinking. You look at the goals for column last year and it was worrying. “You had Cisse on 13 goals and the next one down is Cabaye on six. That is a big gap.” The Magpies have a big interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of St Etienne, who they see as a possible strike partner for Cisse. The Ligue 1 star even attracted Mike Ashley to head to France on a scout ...
Andy Carroll is understood to have been priced out of a return to his former and hometown club Newcastle United, according to The Express. The Liverpool striker is currently contemplating a permanent £15million transfer to West Ham United, where he spent last season on loan. The Reds have agreed the size of the fee, which is £20million less than they paid for the 24-year-old in January 2011, but they are anxious to use the money to fund their own transfer ambitions. However Carroll, who has asked the Hammers for wages of £100,000, is yet to commit to a deal in the hope that Newcastle will come in and make a move, according to the newspaper. Magpies boss Alan Pardew has admitted he would love to pair Carroll with his only top-line forward Papiss Cisse, but the Newcastle board are not willing to part with anything higher than £10million. The 6ft 3in striker is even prepared to lessen his demands should Newcastle come calling, leaving him in a frustrating situation. Carroll has also been told by England ...

Alan Pardew has been interviewed in the local press today, and he is obviously delighted we were able to get all 3 points against what looked like a very solid Stoke side, but that’s Stoke’s 7th loss in the last nine Premier League games. Papiss Cisse smashes home the winner on 92 minutes This is what Alan Pardew had to say to the local press today: “It was a massive win for us and sets up Thursday night for a special evening.” “Our fans have earned the right to get the place as full as we can. “The margins are so small against them we need every advantage.” “It gives me the luxury of making Anzhi my priority – not Wigan. Alan Pardew praised his Newcastle United side for 'winning ugly' as they launched another home fightback to see off Stoke on Sunday. The Magpies fell behind midway through the second half to a Jonathan Walters penalty, but Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse were on target for the hosts at St. James' Park to turn the Premier League fixture on its head and secure maximum points. United have been through similar scenarios in their previous two Tyneside league games - against Chelsea and Southampton - with identical victorious outcomes. And manager Pardew believes they yet again ground out the win on a difficult afternoon. "It was a tough game," "Stoke are really tough opposition, our fans are intelligent enough to know that. They defended deep, got bodies behind the ball, made us make mistake and we looked ugly. "But that's what they are good at, and they are always a threat, so to win it was a massive bonus for us. "We were quicker in the second half from set-plays - our throw-ins, goal-kicks and free-kicks. "We ...

Football News: Daniel Sturridge and Martin Skrtel will both return from injury for today's match against Tottenham. Cisse set to return Papiss Cisse is in line to return to the Newcastle starting line-up for Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Stoke. The Senegal international missed the 0-0 Europa League draw with Anzhi Makhachkala in Moscow on Thursday evening through illness but trained on Saturday and should be available. However, manager Alan Pardew has doubts over Hatem Ben Arfa, who played as a lone frontman in Russia on his return from a 12-week lay-off with a torn hamstring, and Shola Ameobi, who turned an ankle on the artificial pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium. Pardew said: "I think Papiss will make it. He trained and looks fine. "We have got a little injury worry about Shola, and a little worry about Hatem, whether we can introduce him into this game. He's a little bit stiff still." /micky
There was a report out in the Daily Mail earlier today that Ben Arfa was doubtful for tomorrow’s game against Stoke City becasue of a dead leg, but it looks like he will be OK according to the local news in Newcastle, and Ben Arfa is expected to be ready to play in the game tomorrow. And the proof that the French wizard will be involved tomorrow, either starting or coming off the bench comes directly from manager Alan Pardew. Considering it was Ben Arfa’s first senior game for three months last Thursday night, we thought he did very well, and of course he will only get better with more matches played. And if Papiss Cisse had been fit on Thursday night, the Senegal striker would have started and Ben Arfa would have been on the bench, and we suppose it could be the same thing for tomorrow, with Cisse still doubtful for that game with a virus. But Alan Pardew also has Shola Ameobi who could play the striker role, and so can Frenchman Yoan Gouffran.
MATCH DAY! Bring it on!!! Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is out of Thursday's Europa League last 16 first leg match at Anzhi Makhachkala. Cisse did not travel to Russia because of a virus, meaning Shola Ameobi had to be drafted into the squad. "I didn't have any intention of bringing Shola," said Newcastle manager Alan Pardew. "[The Luzhniki Stadium] is a surface that he's been advised in the past not really to play on." Defender Fabricio Coloccini (back) also stayed in Newcastle. Winger Hatem Ben Arfa is in Russia and Pardew is hopeful he will play some part on Thursday. Ben Arfa has not played since tearing a hamstring during the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Fulham on 10 December. Pardew is expecting a tough encounter against a side that has the likes of ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o and former Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra in their ranks. "You need some luck, but you need a good technical game and you need to have the right mentality in the group. I think our mentality is strong," said Pard ...

Plastic surgery: Alan Pardew to pick Newcastle players best suited for Anzhi's artificial pitch
Alan Pardew has insisted it will be a close shave against Anzhi Makhachkala - after growing a Lenin-like beard as a tribute to "great, bearded Russians." Newcastle boss Pardew says his side are "underdogs" to progress from their Europa League last 16 clash with the Russian side, which begins on an artificial surface here in Moscow on Thursday. The Geordies have left star striker Papiss Cisse at home after a bout of sickness. That has forced Pardew to bring along Shola Ameobi, who was supposed to be excused from this trip to avoid subjecting his knees to the battering the Luzhniki Stadium's plastic turf will inflict. Jonas Gutierrez has been left at home for the same reason, but fit-again Hatem Ben Arfa will make an appearance.
Alan Pardew confirmed that Papiss Cisse was too ill to travel to Moscow...
Alan Pardew thought his side were worthy of at least a point at the Liberty Stadium as Newcastle lost 1-0 to Swansea City. After struggling to contain their hosts for much of the opening 25 minutes, the Magpies finally managed to use their physicality to knock Swansea out of their passing patterns. Pardew's side had the better of the second half, with Papiss Cisse, Yoan Gouffran and the highly impressive Moussa Sissoko failing to convert good chances. The manager said: "We are frustrated and disappointed we did not even get a draw as we more than deserved that. "We sat off them for the first 20 minutes of the first half but we sorted that at half-time. "In the second half I thought they had settled for a draw, they knew they were doing well to stay in it. "But when we did not score in that great period we had you know any mistake can be costly and that is what happened. "We missed two or three big chances and you cannot do that at this level. "The goal was sloppy, it's a ball into the box, we had four def ...
NEWCASTLE FIRE 4 PAST SAINTS Newcastle recorded back to back home victories for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon in front of another packed house, coming from behind to make it three wins in their last four Premier League outings. And for Alan Pardew there was the added satisfaction of seeing his Magpies side finally beat a club he previously managed - the first time in five attempts this season. Conceding a goal so early galvanised both Newcastle players and crowd and the black and whites pressed forward in search of an equaliser, with Southampton surviving two credible penalty shouts for handball. Jinking into the Saints box, the former Bordeaux man opted to shoot and although goalkeeper Artur Boruc managed to block that attempt, Moussa Sissoko was ideally placed to ram home his third Newcastle goal. Within ten minutes United had grabbed the lead with an absolute rasper from Papiss Cisse, who unleashed a first-time shot of devastating power and accuracy from outside the box - another sensa ...
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says Papiss Cisse's goal was a "real special one", as his side beat Southampton 4-2 on Sunday.
Shola Ameobi was spot on as he helped Newcastle reach the last 16 of the Europa League with a solid 1-0 aggregate victory against Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine. The only goal of the tie came after 64 minutes when Papa Gueye's woeful back-pass was seized upon by Moussa Sissoko before he was brought crashing to the ground by Aleksandr Goryainov. That allowed Ameobi to slot home his 15th European goal - only Alan Shearer has scored more for the club, as the Metalist goalkeeper dived the wrong way. Magpies' Tim Krul then produced a string of spectacular saves to deny the hosts a way back into the tie as Alan Pardew's men advanced to the next stage of the competiton and a clash against Anzhi Makhachkala or Hannover. It was the visitors who made the brighter start as the physicality of Ameobi and Sissoko, as well as the control exerted by Yohan Cabaye and Vurnon Anita in the middle of the field, caused all kinds of problems for the home side. Ameobi saw a second-minute cross taken off Papiss Cisse's toe as he pre ...
Vernon Anita, Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba. The list is endless. Ever since Alan Pardew arrived at Tyneside, he has only been signing black players!...you noticed it yet?
Alan Pardew was left to bemoan two disallowed goals as Newcastle were denied a Europa League victory over Metalist Kharkiv at St James' Park. The first leg of their last 32 clash ended goalless, leaving the tie well balanced for when the teams meet again next week. Papiss Cisse was denied twice - once in each half - although TV replays show that Senegalese striker may well have onside for both. A disappointed Pardew said: "Both 'goals' were goals. When you see the replays, you can see that. "The first one, I have to say, I was a little bit undecided from where I stood, but the second one I thought was a definite goal. "It's tough to take because in these games, those margins are the difference. "He (Cisse) could have two goals to his name as well if the decisions had gone his way. "When you get decisions like that going against you, it puts fire in your belly. "We came off the pitch very, very disappointed with those decisions and we are going to take that into the second leg." chris/nufc
Thursday night's 0-0 draw against Metalist Kharkiv means United's Europa League tie could still go either way according to Alan Pardew By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter Alan Pardew felt his side should have had a two-goal lead to take to the Ukraine next week, but insists it's still all to play for in the Europa League round of 32 after Thursday's 0-0 draw against Metalist Kharkiv. The unfortunate Papiss Cisse had two strikes - one in each half - chalked off on a frustrating evening at St. James' Park, and Pardew was disappointed not to have a lead to defend ahead of the second leg at the Metalist Stadium. But the Magpies manager took a great deal of heart from the display, and believes a similar performance in the away fixture next Thursday will give his team a great chance of progressing to the next stage. He told nufcTV : "Both goals look onside from the replay. "At the time I thought the first half was perhaps offside but that showed it wasn't; the second one, I knew wasn't offside. I just ...
Alan Pardew pleased with Papiss Cisse despite frustrating night for Newcastle
Alan Pardew admitted Newcastle would have a "sleepless night" after Papiss Cisse was twice denied a goals by controversial offside decisions.
Magpies manager has seemingly short memory. “I saw a headline saying Arsenal are flying the flag for Britain in the Champions League, but I had to wonder where that British involvement was when I saw the team. “It is important we don’t lose sight that this is the English Premier League and English players should be involved. I know it is difficult to buy British players because the market is expensive.” – Alan Pardew, West Ham United manager, 2006. Howay! Have you forgotten that Alan? Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is seemingly in possession of a very short memory. fanatix has found an old news report on ESPN in which Pardew criticises Arsenal at some length for their focus on foreign imports. Fast-forward to the future and Pardew is currently operating on a seemingly self-imposed ban to only purchase players from France’s Ligue 1. Pardew had already created a strong French contingent at St James’ Park with the likes of Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye having made their wa ...

Debuchy signing can lift Toon - Pardew Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is hoping a successful pursuit of Mathieu Debuchy will help to secure the club's biggest names. The Magpies are hopeful of pushing through their protracted move for the 27-year-old Lille full-back later this week after tracking the France international for more than a year. At a time when the future of striker Demba Ba is looking increasingly uncertain, that would represent a major boost for Pardew as he looks to build his team around the likes of Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and Debuchy's close friend, Yohan Cabaye. He said: "When you sign good, senior international players, which he is, it's going to give everybody a boost, your senior players too. "I hope that's the case - but we are still far from a deal yet." In the short term, Pardew's only focus, however, is the clash at Everton in which the Magpies will attempt to avoid a ninth defeat in just 11 Barclays Premier League games. Pardew's problems have been ...
SATURDAY LIVE Sport vibe Headline: Pardew a hypocrite, says Ferguson Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Alan Pardew of hypocrisy after the Newcastle manager criticised his behaviour on Boxing Day. Pardew said the Football Association should have punished Ferguson for confronting officials during Manchester United's 4-3 win at Old Trafford. "Alan Pardew is the worst for haranguing referees. His whole staff [do it] every game," Ferguson said. Pardew served a two-match ban for pushing a match official in August. Ferguson confronted referee Mike Dean, his assistant Jake Collin and the fourth official Neil Swarbrick at the start of the second half of the Premier League game at Old Trafford to protest over Newcastle's second goal. Dean had ruled that Papiss Cisse was not interfering with play when Jonny Evans put through his own goal after 28 minutes, even though the Senegal international was in an offside position when Danny Simpson hit the initial shot. Pardew was unhappy that the United ...
Manchester United extended their Premier League lead to seven points with a thrilling win over Newcastle. James Perch pounced from close range to give the Magpies an early lead before Jonny Evans equalised in similar style then turned a cross into his own net. Patrice Evra levelled matters with a low drive before Papiss Cisse's superb shot made it 3-2 to the Magpies. Robin van Persie equalised with a drive before Javier Hernandez slid in to convert a cross in the final minute. It was a remarkable finish to an extraordinary match which saw the home side come from behind on three occasions. The result will be a bitter blow for Magpies manager Alan Pardew, although he will have been buoyed by the performance of his players, who came agonisingly close to defeating their opponents at Old Trafford for the first time since 1972. All the ingredients were there for a potentially eventful match - Boxing Day and a rain-sodden pitch. And with Manchester United fielding a side without ill and injured attacking trio Wa ...
Manchester United 0 vs 0 Newcastle United - Pre Match I'll try and keep the festive puns to a minimum today, promise. As for the game today, the Red Devils saw their lead slip at the top of the table to four points after a 1-1 draw away to Swansea, and Sir Alex Ferguson has reacted by dropping Wayne Rooney from today's squad altogether. Alan Pardew meanwhile will be hoping Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse can bully United's leaky defence and steal the points for his side. The team news is in... Manchester United: De Gea; Smalling, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Scholes; Chicharito, van Persie. Subs: Lindegaard, Vidic, Buttner, Wootton, Cleverley, Fletcher, Tunnicliffe. Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon; Perch, Anita; Marveaux, Bigirimana, Cisse, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Tavernier, Ferguson, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Campbell, Shola Ameobi. So with Rooney and Ashley Young injured and Danny Welbeck ill, it would be fair to say that the home side's attacking options look a little limi ...
Papiss Cisse replaced by Shola Ameobi at St James' Park. Alan Pardew offers his hand, but Cisse snubs him!
SUBSTITUTION - Newcastle 0-0 QPR It's a frustrating afternoon for Newcastle. Papiss Cisse has been hooked off and replaced by Shola Ameobi. He was furious with the decision and snubbed a handshake from his manager, Alan Pardew. He also turned down some orange juice from Steve Harper. He is really stewing on the bench. To compound United's misery, Cheick Tiote has been booked for the fifth time this season and will now miss the Boxing Day trip to Manchester United. (Adam)

TRANSFER RUMOUR: Alan Pardew wants to bring Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate to Newcastle in January. It is believed that the Newcastle manager is a big fan of the 22-year-old central defender, who has made 44 appearances since joining Anderlecht from Brussels in 2008. Kouyate is already familiar with Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse having played for his national side Senegal five times.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was clearly frustrated after he lost Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa to injury during tonight's draw with Maritimo that saw the Magpies qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
United vs Swansea City- 15:00 GMT ] - Newcastle will be without France international Yohan Cabaye (groin) after he missed his country's friendly win over Italy midweek with the problem. Fellow midfielder Jonas Gutierrez (knee) and captain Fabricio Colocci ni (suspension) are also out but manager Alan Pardew can welcome Cheikh Tiote following his three-match ban. Papiss Cisse may miss out after a mix-up between the Senegal FA and Newcastle led to the striker pulling out of an international friendly with a back problem but the national body could take action to prevent him playing this weekend. Demba Ba also failed to report for international duty due to an on going shin complaint. SWANSEA look set to be without KiSung-Yueng (hamstring) but Danny Graham (back) could return to the fold. The game comes too early for Michel Vorm (groin) and Kyle Bartley (thigh),while Neil Taylor (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of the season.IRE O.

Manchester United's blistering start blew away Newcastle as the visitors won 3-0 on Sunday to move up to second in the Premier League table.. Sir Alex Ferguson's side were handed a flying start as the Magpies' makeshift defence crumbled horrifically on two occasions inside the opening 16 minutes to allow first Jonny Evans and then Patrice Evra to head home. Alan Pardew's men rallied in determined fashion and might have been back in the game five minutes into the second half, but Demba Ba's header came back off the bar and Papiss Cisse's follow-up was clawed on to the post by keeper David De Gea with the home contingent claiming the ball had crossed the line. But Tom Cleverley's 71st-minute strike from long range ensured the visitors avenged their 3-0 defeat at St James' Park last season in fine style.
Manchester United are crying out for a settled back four and head into what promises to be the most entertaining game of the weekend against Newcastle with a series of defensive nightmares behind them. The Magpies, on the other hand, look like they hit their stride against Bordeaux and have the players to make United fans feel uncomfortable this weekend. Put very simply, Newcastle’s attackers are very good and United’s defence is shambolic. This is not an awe-inspiring combination for the men in red. “We feel we can exploit their defensive weaknesses and they will feel they can exploit ours", said Alan Pardew with a remarkably straight face. After recent displays, it is unclear how Manchester United will approach this fixture. A good start would be for Fergie to start settling the back of the team down. With Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse both capable of firing off vicious shots, we need De Gea in goal to make reactionary saves. The manager should also announce the Spaniard as our permanent No. 1 and giv ...

Manchester United progressed to the League Cup fourth round with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle in an open match which saw both sides hit the woodwork at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were on top for the majority of the first half, and should have took advantage when Anderson and Tom Cleverley both had brilliant chances, but did eventually take the lead courtesy of a superb strike from the Brazilian. Alan Pardew's men tried to work their way back into the clash after the break, having a couple of decent chances, but Cleverley fired home to extend the hosts' lead. Papiss Cisse pulled a goal back with half-an-hour left, but it wasn't enough to stop his side crashing out.
Demba Ba: Alan Pardew admits striker could leave in January By Ben Smith BBC Sport Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted last season's top scorer Demba Ba could leave the club for £7m in January. The 27-year-old Senegal striker is believed to be frustrated at his current role at the club and talks over a new contract have reached an impasse. It was thought Ba's £7m buy-out clause expired on 31 July, but Pardew revealed it is still active in the New Year. "There is that clause in his contract and it makes us vulnerable, " he said. "It's still open in the next window." The former West Ham striker's absence from the squad that travelled to Portugal for Thursday's Europa League tie with Maritimo is not linked directly to the ongoing situation. Newcastle are, however, exasperated by comments made by his agent Alex Gontran on Tuesday which suggested his client might seek a move away if he continues to play second fiddle to Senegal team-mate Papiss Cisse in the Magpies' attack. Pardew revealed he held talks ...
Chelsea v. Newcastle Preview (Sky Sports) Roberto Di Matteo and Eden HazardChelsea host Newcastle United in the Saturday evening kick-off looking to make it a perfect three wins on the bounce in this season's Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo's early league leaders followed up their 2-0 away win at Wigan on Sunday with a pulsating 4-2 home victory over new boys Reading on Wednesday. The Blues had to come from behind to beat Brian McDermott's side and Di Matteo will be looking for his team to tighten up at the back, especially against top strikers Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba. Cisse notched a brace - including his curling wonder-goal - as the Magpies downed the Blues 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in May last season. And Ba - who is hoping to be fit from a sore shin - showed his own goalscoring prowess with the opener as Alan Pardew's side beat former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas' new team Tottenham 2-1 last weekend to get their season off to a winning start. Papiss Cisse has produced a pair of goals, both for the highlight reel, as Newcastle United defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge tonight. The Geordies recorded their first win at the West London venue since 1986 to give Alan Pardew his first victory as Newcastle manager in London. Senegal ace Cisse was the star of the show with two contenders for goal of the season which sunk the Blues and dashed their hopes of a top-four finish, meaning they will have to win the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 19 if they want to play in Europe’s premier club competition next season. The opening goal came in the 19th minute when Davide Santon made a powerful run down the right flank before finding Cisse on the edge of the area who popped it up with his right foot and then finishing sublimely with a volley past Petr Cech with his left. Chelsea pushed extremely hard in the second half and looked like pinching a leveller until Cisse scored an absolutely ridiculous goal with the outside of his right f ...

Victor Moses' early double set Wigan on their way to yet another big-time conquest as Roberto Martinez's men gave their survival hopes a mighty boost by brushing aside Champions League hopefuls Newcastle 4-0. Moses' quick-fire brace in the 13th and 15th minutes left Alan Pardew's Magpies reeling and further first-half strikes from Shaun Maloney and Franco Di Santo ensured the buoyant Latics had effectively sealed the points before the break. Papiss Cisse twice hit the woodwork as the visitors rallied in the second half, but their hopes of holding down at least a top-four place in the Premier League had long since suffered a serious blow. Having already beaten Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal on their extraordinary late-season run, Wigan were expected to start with confidence but not even the most optimistic of Latics could have foreseen their whirlwind opening. The recalled Maloney spread panic with a free-kick in the second minute and Moses had already brought a save out of Tim Krul before the st ...
