It's definitely impossible to listen to more than 2 Band Of Horses songs without having to immediately counteract the whiteness with at least 7 Marvin Gaye songs, 5 Al Green songs, 3 Bill Withers songs, and the entire Chess Records catalogue.
Battle of the day: Al Green vs. Bill Withers.
Been vibing to Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding all day
A combination of Al Green, Bob Marley and Bill Withers in the morning can really set the tone for the day.
"If the shoe don't fit the size, why keep tryin' it on?", just a taste of some of Ike Turner's feminist manifesto (yeah, I know, but just check it out) "Game Of Love" on Joan Osborne's 2012 Bring It On Home. This is one of twelve vintage blues tunes she has resurrected from varying degrees of obscurity. If you don't already love her and aren't willing to try, you can take the next few days off, 'cause I'm in a serious Joan mode. Included are songs by such blues giants as Ray Charles, John Mayhall, Bill Withers, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, Al Green and Slim Harpo (via the Stones, in the case of "Shake Your Hips). She also gets in a little New Orleans with Allen Toussaint's "Shoorah! Shoorah!" (check out Betty Wright's version as well) and reintroduces a lost treasure in Olive Brown's "Roll Like A Big Wheel". The title track comes from the Sonny Boy Williamson hit and when Joan belts out Clarence Carter's "I'm Qualified" the only response can be: amen sister!! Joan Osborne - "Game of Love" (Live at WFUV) - ...

Well I been reading since I have been awake.I had to rest my eyes and listen to some jams.feeling the oldies today seeing how todays weather is kind of gloomy...nothing like the sounds of Otis Redding, or Bill Withers, and Al Green, and so forth to pass the time.
Just had the kind of amazing, incredible evening that could only happen in New York!! Started with the Retro Future listening party / reception, checked out Jazzmeia Horn's set at Zinc, then checked out Jared Red Jacobs and Adam Mason at Groove, then walked over to Rockwood to hear a one-night-only set from José James covering Al Green and Bill Withers, spent 20 minutes talking shop with Brian Bender (well really he talked and I listened!), then walked back to W 3rd to the Village Underground for Cheryl Pepsii Riley's birthday and ended up sitting in on BASS, finally ended up for a grandma slice at Ben's with Jared, David Cutler, and Jessie Davis. Whew! Soul music lives!!!
There's nothing Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield or Bill Withers can't solve... Just add sunshine & your choice of beverage :-) Have a great sunday!
How about classic = Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, or the Rev. Al Green
A good buddy of mine came over tonight and I had Pandora on with some Derek Trucks playing. He did not know anything about Pandora so I took him to the computer and explained it to him. He said...can you play any Curtis Mayfield. OMG, I am having a blast from the past. Bill Withers, Isaac Hayes, Leon Hayword, Al Green. I have got my funk going on tonight for sure. Digging in the garage to see if I can find my platform shoes.
So that means MJ, Bill Withers, Al Green, Smokey Robinson, Luther Vandross, Prince, and the Temptations.
Well so far I have albums from Amos Lee, Jason Mraz, Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Emili Sande and Bill Withers

Vote to Re-name SOUL MIX FAVS Playlist/Vote for Titles-Delete Titles 1. "Little Red Corvette" by Prince (we both, thankfully, like Prince) 2. "Reasons" by Earth, Wind and Fire (because Eileen and I never danced together at a prom) 3. "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers (because people will confuse him with Al Green) 4. "Honey" by Erykah Badu (this is her favorite Badu song) 5. "Back in the Day (Puff)" by Erykah Badu (because I seriously turned her on to Badu) 6. "Turn Me Away (Get Munny)" by Erykah Badu (because she and I share the same birthday) 7. "Latin Girls" by Black Eyed Peas (because that's her type--rolling my eyes; where's them Metiza Filipina* girls???) 8. "Hey Mama" by Blakced Eyed Peas (because I don't like the newer album as much) 9. "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" (because this is the FIRST song on my work out mix) 10. "Love Like This" by Faith Evans (because I can move my hips to the drum beat without throwing my back out)

Everybody knows many artists have a cover for Lean On Me. I am fully aware that the pictures are not Bill Withers, they are in fact Al Green. Please ignore t...
What's happened with R&B today? I feel like R&B died when bands like the Four Tops and artists like Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Al Green, and of course Otis Redding faded from the scene. Many would argue it simply evolved, but I would really disagree. Who today really performs R&B? Usher did fantastic for a long time, but now he's just pop music, and the "R&B" music he makes lacks the soul that used to permeate it. Wale? Yeah right. How about Biebs? Again, pop, not R&B. He may have some soul, but if he's really experienced real hurt or real love, I don't feel it in his music. Chris Brown has NEVER been R&B, despite everything he and his producers will tell you. Giving him the Grammy for Best R&B Album over Trey Songz was an egregious sin. If he listened to Otis growing up, he certainly didn't listen to the words, or at least didn't take them to heart. Marvin Gaye divorced his cheating, lecherous wife, sure, but he didn't beat her the way Chris beat Rihanna. That ain't classy. That ain't soul. That ain't R& ...
I actually once dated a girl who never heard Al Green or Bill Withers. When (cont)
