Today I posted video of the talented Akim Camara and of the wonderful Landfill orchestra, also a trailer from Les Miserables. What's the connection? In school the focus is on getting the nitty gritty of maths and reading and learning facts by rote, before we ever work on children's self esteem. Those who already have that self esteem thrive, but what of those who come flawed and broken and weighed down. If you think little of yourself, you only expect little and when others put you down, it is easy to believe their view. When you are given the opportunity to be part of something beautiful, to be a creator of music, art or a look of wonder on someone else's face, then you expect so much more from yourself. You can feel worthy of so much more. When you know you're own worth, no one can make you feel worthless. No bully, whatever their form or rank can have power over someone who has the ability to create beauty in the world.
